Mini Preliminary Art and Dev Check In
Hello all!
Thanks for your patience! We found some big bugs in the code and have been working nonstop to iron them out. In general, we've been hesitant to comment on any dates aside from general expectations, but we're erring on the side of caution so as not to promise and run into issues and have to push. Codes can be generated at any time, but we don't want to send them out without a date to match.
In general, we found a bug in forums and have been cleaning it. And with that last push all we'll be doing is a final sweep of each function before sending codes out. It's our hope that alpha will be pretty clean and transition into beta rather quickly.
That all being said, I do not want to do a full throttle update until we have external users in the game, which mark my words will be before the end of August.
So this is just a quick preview of the day to day work we have gotten done! With a comprehensive breakdown on what we are doing to ensure that you all as users are not kept in the dark.
The content shared here does not encompass everything we'll have, and we'll have a dedicated update for August before the month ends.
 Art Check In
In general, there's a lot to do on art!
We've begun hiring more artists to meet the demand (information on applying for an artist role can be found on our Instagram, our Discord, our Tumblr, and our Twitter.)
It's for this reason as well that we have not yet provided an updated team graphic. Namely, we want to close applications and onboard the new hires before plastering the newest team roster in various places.
Here is what we currently have to do and are concurrently working on:
Icons, icons, and more icons! There are a total of 175 different icon-only items for the alpha and beginning beta testing. We have so far completed full illustration for 103 of them. The remaining 72 all have placeholder sketches, but we're all pushing to get them done! All flavor text has been written!
In addition, we're working on a new pattern, Leopard, and have illustrated on 7 out of 12 poses, with the goal to push Moontails around the same time as Leopard. This is for users who are not testers to have new material to work with. Fyrets and Thumpers have had their patterns started to also be updated.
Moontails need Cardinal illustrated, but all other patterns are done for them. The push for them has been a lower priority than getting everything for Alpha in order, but they are being worked on between bigger tasks.
The Sweetheart set was completed on the 9 testing poses. All other accessories need additional final illustration. Woolen is the closest to full completion.
Fauna variants and additional Fauna are getting padded out. We shared the Romanovtsa variants with the community this month by playing a guessing game in our Discord!
Electra Crest, Demonic Crest, and Staff Crest are being rendered from sketch designs. All other crests are done.
Decor is being continually illustrated.
Lastly, there are various assets we'll be filling over time, such as NPCs and onsite environmental decorations.
And that's all of what we're currently doing! The art team has been working hard, and if you're interested in working with us, please look at our hiring resources! Applications are still open.
So, let's look at some of what we've done!
Fauna Variants
We shared the work in progresses for the Romanovtsa variants earlier this month. As we explained, all Fauna "recolors" will be variants rather than recolors without change. Each variant will be marked by location, such as "southern" or "far southern" using the world map as reference for regional points!

Central Romanovtsa by Hydde
Leopard Pattern

Leopard design by Hydde. Leopard illustrations by Asp.
Here is a preview of our Leopard pattern!
Icons, icons, icons!
Tumblr media
Embers, Honeycomb, Iron Bar, and Steel Bar by Hydde. Boiled Egg, Chicken, Saffron, Sakura, Whale Meat, Bison, Jasmine, Fennel, and Recipe Template by Tybaxel. Apple by Rune. Blackberry and Potato by Nik. Dandelion and Tomato Basil Soup by Rue.
Metamorphic Items
Here is a fun treat! We designed out our metamorphic items: things that change a cat's appearance.
For overcoats: Agate!
Tumblr media
Solid Agate, Cardinal Agate, Tiger Agate, Tigerface Agate, Valentine Agate, Butterfly Agate, Tuxedo Agate, and Blotches Agate illustrated by Hydde
For accents: Quartz!
Tumblr media
Cheeks Quartz, Lollipop Quartz, Harlequin Quartz, Skin Quartz, Claws Quartz, Overgrowth Blossom Quartz, Overgrowth Ivy Quartz illustrated by Hydde
In lore: these items have been grown, carved, and carefully cultivated by magicians to induce genetic mutations. Thus, they're artfully decorated to do as intended! Some are rarer than others, and magic tech can be expensive, but the breakthrough in magic technology seen in The Metropolis means that, if crafted correctly by a skilled magician, they won't up and fail catastrophically!
And for Overgrowth, the plants have grown and imbued themselves throughout the magic stone!
Angelic Crest
We have been working on forum crests! Here is a look at the Angelic Crest:

Dev Check In
One big breakthrough was setting up and implementing the admin for Zendesk! With this, we'll be able to much more thoroughly and swiftly note down and respond to support tickets and bug reports. Lots of tools at our disposal now for more competently handling user support. Huge!
Here is what we have to do now:
Re-push forums for testing.
Link all item visuals to onsite items.
Internally sweep all mechanics ready for Alpha and pinpoint any lacking functionality. "Internal Alpha" with about 25 testers has already been happening concurrently, but getting things ready for over 150+ users at once has been the big push!
The first two are happening as I am writing! But unfortunately any estimation for the last point will inevitably put a curse on it. What I can say is that we have an impressive amount of Buttons That Do Stuff and we're really eager to get on it.
In addition, here are the first non-bug-squashing and non-improvement endeavors we're going to work on while Alpha and early closed Beta is happening:
Party functionality for dailies.
Processing (the act of turning one item into another without a recipe, such as dying any accessory item.)
User settings.
Private user to user trading, chat, and friend notifications.
User notification dashboard.
Fauna functionality.
Pelts and partials.
Item and game database.
Adding white coverage in the creator UI, dynamic undercoat gene vs automatic, founder creation and re-creation, and full metamorphic functionality (previewing cat changes in the item card.)
And there will be more! We got a lot designed out to steadily build in. But here's what the immediate plan is. It's very exciting how much like a full game we're looking!
Here's a look at the private trades UI while we're here!
Tumblr media
Thanks for all the support!
In the next big update for August, we'll move our progress tracker and give any retrospective on how testing is going, show way more art, give everyone videos on our functionalities, and do a lore dump!

another day, another company I have to callout for using AI 'art' and I'm really disappointed with this one because since I discovered them last year, I've been a big fan of Koi Footwear
please reblog, I think it's important to highlight when companies, especially in the creative industry use AI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
once they confirmed they'd used an AI generated image in one of their marketing emails I replied & I think I put it pretty succinctly why I am so disappointed with them and I want them to know that using AI 'art' makes them look cheap & lazy and isn't a good look to other artists
Tumblr media
what do I want by making this post? I don't want them to use AI 'art' in any aspect of their business, it feels like a slap in the face to artists & creatives who buy their shoes & merch. maybe I'm asking too much, but I would also want them to apologise for their use of AI
don't care enough to hire a real artist to make a cute graphic for your marketing email? cool, then go ahead and start asking the AI to design the shoes for you, then you can save money and get rid of all your human designers!
final point: but there is some bitter irony here that they have a whole page on their website dedicated to their ethics... I guess that doesn't extend to the unethical use of AI, huh?

kinda a niche au concept but i think a lot of people will get it but also it’s so random lol: corroded coffin friendship / steddie / buckingham / more lol
okay, my dad watches car shows all the time like the car sos shit, and i don’t really like them, but i’ve always enjoyed one: Counting Cars. the main mechanic is like a metalhead and they’re all kinda punky and alternative and just a bunch of metalhead dads pimping out old cars and shit.
henceforth, the au idea: how are you seeing how our beloved eddie might fit into this?
SO say CC got big enough to be known kinda western globally or whatever, maybe bigger idk i don’t care but anyway. maybe they were a one hit wonder in the 80/90’s or whatever.
but they stopped playing because they all kinda wanted to settle down and stop partying and wanted to buy houses and not have to tour all the time or whatever right. say gareth met a girl and got married to her and they had a kid on the way, jeff and grant wanted to settle down and live a cosy steady life together, eddie was just so fucking tired of being front man idol or whatver. and they all just wanted to get back into the mechanic shop - maybe they all apprenticed at thatcher tyers or whatever in hawkins when they were younger.
whatever the reason, they’re ex-famous band who are pretty ficking rich and love working on cars and shit. so they open a shop and start fixing up cars. they get a lot of rapport because of their name; the shops called corroded cars or something similar to the band name. eddie runs the place because it’s mostly his passion and he impulse bought the shop himself whilst drunk one night and then they were all just like okay yeah let’s do this lol.
maybe one night they’re all chilling at gareth’s place for “family” dinner and after dinner they’re just watching telly and a car show comes on and then they get the idea to start a show!!! so they do!!!
eddie’s the main guy, obviously. he’s always been the drama queen confident one so he runs it all, and it’s His shop anyway. eddie is the idiotic, loveable, idiot but he’s also just a cool down to earth alternative guy who headbangs whilst working on engines and REFUSES to cut his hair.
i think jeff would be the head painter, graphic artist,. i feel such an arty vibe from him ya know? i think that would be his area of expertise. the audience would love his general calm vibe but also adore how easily he puts everyone in their place in a second and is so secretly sassy.
i think argyle would be the airbrush guy and also works in paint / design. he’s Definitely not always high and is just funny like that… definitely. his niche opinions and random curiosities keep the audience captivated.
gareth would be the detailer i think. he’s got a sort of perfectionist vibe and he’d always have a go when eddie brings in a car or a bike he’s just been fixing the motor of or whatever and there’s grease stains all over the doors and shit. the audience would love their banter.
grant would be the bike shop manager, he’s got a strong interest in motorbikes and that’s his area of expertise. he’ll spend hours perfecting one part of the body of a bike and eddie adores his dedication every fuckinf time.
jonothan would be the tech guy. he finds ways to update old cars to help them run smoothly whilst feeling authentic in the drive. some of the tech he pulls out is next level and everyone in the shop will spend an entire episode gushing about this one feature in a car he added that makes it feel like a spy car or something.
Nancy!! she’d be the behind the scenes manager. eddie hired her about one month into the buisiness when he realised none of the CC guys could / or wanted to do the books and shit. she’s smart as hell and a total hard ass when it comes to their aloof attitude and carelessness, but she’s also good fun and a total girlboss. eddie relies on her to keep the shop afloat, he’d be lost without her. she’s a fan favorite because she’s the only one who can attempt to put eddie in his place and acctually succeed. anyone goes and tells eddie he needs to think about the budget before he goes spending, he won’t even listen, she gives him one look and tells him no and suddenly he’s sheepish and nodding and walking away like a child who was told they can’t have a cookie. she’s in charge of all the books / finance / accounts / all that stuff!
(also, people are having a hard time figuring out if she’s dating john or argyle, or weather those guys are dating eachotjer, or if they’re all dating, or if None of them are dating)
Chrissy!! she’s adorable. a total fan favorite. she’s their receptionist and is currently taking an engineering course part time in college, finally taking the initiative to do something She actually wants to do. her sweet demeanour pulls customers and watchers in, and her determined attitude is what makes them stay. she’s like pure sugar, but so insanely smart. sometimes she’ll come and watch everyone as they work and if it’s not busy they’ll teach her different things and let her try. everyone loves the episodes where chrissy gets to try and fix things or paint things or learn things!
ROBIN!!! my girl! ugh! she’s TOTALLY an iconic mean lesbian okay. she’s always got banter with the guys, and she’s so cool calm and clllected, insulting them all the time. the girls in the audience go crazy when she’s onscreen in just a wife beater tank and got them gay girl muscles out! she works close with eddie on motors and shit but she’s also the project scout. she looks for new things for them to try and brings these ideas / cars / bikes / whatever else over to eddie to get out into the show! but the audience loves her even more when they see her totally awkward dorky side come out the first episode where chrissy comes over and watches robin work. they’ve never seen robin drop a spanner so much! chrissy is the only one who can fluster robin like that. the audience is rooting for their romance.
and the steddie! so robins totally uber rich best friend likes collecting old cars. and she’s been trying to get him on the show for a while because he has Such cool cars but he’s never needed fixing or pimping. until he goes and buys another one and it just won’t run and it’s all beaten down but he just HAD to buy it because it was his dream car as a little kid or something. so he comes on the show with his car and - well, the main reason he’s been avoiding it because he actually used to crush on lead guitarist and vocalist eddie munson back in the 90’s - eddie obviously being the face of the show greets him with nancy and robin and they talk about his car and eddie gets Flustered!
robin has a totally hot best friend whos So ficking queer And knows heaps about cars and is standing so close, shoulders touching with eddie as he shows pictures of his collection on his phone and eddie pretends he’s looking at the cars and not steve’s ring adorned hands.
steve is also highly protective of his cars and so he hangs around whilst they work on his ride. he and robin are so chatty and bitchy together and the audience love it. and eddie can’t stop Staring!!
by episode three of steve being featured in it people are posting shit trying to notify steve and robin that eddie is so gay for steve!
and then steve’s car is done and done and then he leaves the show. and then a couple of episodes later robin approaches eddie and whispers - but the cameras are right there - to eddie asking if he has been perving on her best friend and it’s So funny to everyone cause eddie’s kinda terrified and she’s threading to burry him alive if he hurts her steve and- eddie goes red when he realises that robin just confirmed he had a chance with steve.
anyway. suddenly steve has Many more appearances on the show :)
and obviously robin and chrissy get together!!’
and no one ever finds out about the love triangle between nancy jon and argyle (they’re all polly)
anyway. i just think that’s cute.

‘She watched us make out … then my girlfriend gave me a high five’: Maria Thattil on the reality of sex scenes
Link to the article from Stellar Magazine
To some, sitting with your partner to watch yourself make out with another might be uncomfortable. To me, it’s just part of a job – and I scored a high-five from my girlfriend afterwards.
You see, I recently joined the cast of Neighbours playing Amira Devkar and had the pleasure (pun intended) of an on-screen romance with Nicolette Stone, played by Hannah Monson.
To viewers, the scene was uninhibited, passionate, intimate and electric. The reality? Technical, safe and most importantly, comfortable.
Many people aren’t familiar with an intimacy coordinator (IC) but I credit those scenes to Bayley Turner of Create Consent, who was on set with us. Intimacy coordination is a new field; according to CBS News, the first production to hire and credit a designated IC was the 2017 HBO drama The Deuce.
Today, there are more than 100 certified ICs working in film and TV, and I’m grateful.
Before I worked with one, the discourse I noticed about ICs was varied, with big Hollywood names weighing in.
Michael Caine asked “What are they?” and argued that in his day, “You just did the love scene and got on with it without anyone interfering.”
Filmmaker Mia Hansen-Løve referred to them as “virtue police”, and Michael Douglas likened them to “executives taking control away from filmmakers”.
Sean Bean claimed ICs “spoil the spontaneity” of sex scenes and Jennifer Aniston – who said she was from “the olden days” of filming – argued that having an IC ask if you’re OK is uncomfortable when shooting those scenes “is awkward enough”.
To echo Emma Thompson’s sentiments, I think ICs are “fantastically important”.
These scenes shouldn’t be “spontaneous” – I, for one, wouldn’t want to be touched unexpectedly. As an actor, your job is to make them look fluid, sensual and natural, and ICs play a crucial role in this. They choreograph intimacy safely.
They help you establish boundaries, rehearse sounds, coordinate touch and design the intimacy so your private self is protected. Like a fight or dance scene, you then perform the “choreography” freely.
In our scene, viewers saw passionate kissing, touching and moaning. Behind that were dedicated sessions where our IC got us comfortable with being physically close, and facilitated conversation about what zones of our bodies we were/weren’t comfortable having touched.
We rehearsed every moment, coordinated movements, practiced sounds and regularly checked in with each other.
Having the IC there ensured that we were protected to enact an intimate interaction without offering up our private selves, because all we did was perform a series of technical movements.
ICs play a crucial role in an industry that’s rife with sexual abuse.
An environment where actors are empowered to have a say and consent to what they’re performing creates a safe space where no-one is taken advantage of. It also protects from power imbalances on set.
My first intimate scene wasn’t as graphic as one could be, but I’m nonetheless grateful to Bayley and the Neighbours production team for fostering a safe environment, so the scene could be achieved professionally and respectfully. It’s not every day your job requires orgasmic simulations, but when it’s achieved so safely, a high five is in order.
Which is what – like me and my girlfriend – Hannah and I did after we finished.
Job well done.
