you do not have to answer if you don't want to, but.do you have any idea which party you're going to vote for during the federal elections in belgium, because i'm.honestly at a loss atm
Yeah, I understand. The choice is def not easy.
First of all, the won't vote for parties:
Those that want to split Belgium in any way. Racists. Vlaams Belang being the most extreme obv. The Federal states ~solution~ Bart De Wever is bringing is bull and will only make the discrepancy bigger. Working together and sharing the wealth and workforce is the way to go here.
Never been a big CD&V fan. They haven't been doing the best of jobs historically. Also I am generally against the Catholic notion :) Hilde Crevits is the only one there I think is doing a fine job (on the top of my head). The CD&V are however a good possible partner for a lefty oriented government. Ze draaien zoals de tjeeven ze zijn.
VLD is doing a lot of shooting themselves in the feet lately it's becoming a sitcom (dramatic). It's a party that has always stood for the wealthier part of the population (including the ones that just think they are / want to be). So nope for me. (though maybe they did make the right decision appointing Paul Van Tigchelt, he seems competent at least)(so far)
So Groen, PVDA and Vooruit remain.
Why I personally don't want to vote Groen (federally) is because of their insistence on closing down the nuclear power stations. We should invest in them, not close down!.. Love for Petra De Sutter though, her cleaning out BPost is a good thing!
I'm not sure what to think of PVDA tbh. Them never having been in a government in Belgium before makes it hard. Buuut, they might have a chance soon. PTB (the Walloon version) is going pretty hard in the polls, so voting for the Flemish one might not be a waste in a Federal election!
Well, I think we all know the current Vooruit problem. Conner Rousseau's reputation sure is shit atm. He's a populist. I still think it's the party doing the ~most~ good both planning and historically wise. They also have the most chance of being in a future coalition. That coalition being another Vivaldi type. Lots of other parties, like CD&V and NVA will turn down PVDA/PTB, and very much favour a coalition with Vooruit.
I know Vivaldi got some shit reputation, but imo they did an "okay" job considering corona and the war in Ukraine. (them mostly supporting Israel publicly is gross though, but in line with what Belgium always does (following Germany and the US and other big countries))
So conclusion and prediction
We either have an extreme right wing government with NVA and/or Vlaams Belang with the help from a payed Walloon party (De Wever is hoping the PS will agree here for millions of €€€€ because they need that money)
We have a central Vivaldi 2.0 thing with possibly MR/VLD, NVA, CD&V, Groen and Vooruit/PS (Bartje hates MR so they might get left out though)
Or we go leftie-liberal with PTB/PVDA, Vooruit/PS, Groen, VLD/MR and CD&V
Imo, the odds of the middle one are the highest and I will probs vote Vooruit because of that. But yakno. I'm not entirely sure either :))
#fr#will vote Groen for the gemeente#Vlaams niveau wss ook Vooruit#tis nie gemakkelijk :)#ask#anonymous

CD&V houdt paars-groene deur dicht: “Paars-geel blijft onze basisoptie”

Second-hand, good for climate and employment
The second-hand market is booming like never before, also when it comes to employment. We took a closer look at the –originally Lithuanian - Think Twice-shop in Ghent (B). "I prefer not to contribute to the throwaway culture of fast fashion."
"Everything for 2 euros." Under a soft midday sun, a dozen young people queue up in front of the Ghent branch of Think Twice, a clothing chain specializing in vintage, second-hand. A sale attracts a lot of candidates, but due to corona the number of customers inside is limited to eight. Once inside, they have a maximum of half an hour to search the increasingly emptying clothes racks.
The fact that a sale is being organized today is a bonus, "but I also come here if no discounts are given," says Magali Lauwers as she sits down. The young architect consciously chooses second-hand to limit her environmental impact. "A friend once convinced me," she says. "I think it is important that we use scarce materials sparingly."
Shalva Nikuashvili also prefers not to contribute to the "throwaway culture" of fast fashion, and the "overproduction" by large clothing chains. "I don't like the way they work and interact with their employees," said Nikuashvili, who used to work at nothing less than H&M. "Think Twice is also a chain, but it has a better approach."
Almost exclusively young people line up here today. Especially for students, the low prices - in addition to sustainability - are an important argument. Several customers who did not find what they were looking for at the sale on Ajuinlei, we see again later in the Nederkouter, where Think Twice has a second location. There are people waiting at both stores, and in the otherwise sparsely populated shopping streets the striking paper shopping bags immediately catch the eye.
Job engine
If second-hand clothing has been gaining in popularity in recent years , Think Twice, which is originally Lithuanian, is an excellent illustration. The first Belgian branch was opened in 2007, now there are ten. "Their growing success is undeniable," says Joi Herremans, who has consciously opted for second-hand for years. "I can only applaud it, but it does make it harder for me to find clothes myself."
This growth also translates into employment. Think Twice now employs 65 people, says director Joseph Carmichael. "Not only in the stores themselves, but also in the depots and the back office." The retail chain is no exception. The circular economy is becoming an increasingly important job engine in Flanders. Over the past ten years, the number of jobs has grown almost three times faster than in the general economy, according to a new study by the Policy Research Center for Circular Economy and research consortium Michelle at the request of the Flemish government. Since 2008, the circular economy has created roughly 6,000 jobs, an increase of 16.4 percent, while general employment increased by 5.8 percent. The growth was mainly in the second-hand sector and rental and leasing services.
"Underestimation"
Today, more than 43,000 people work in the Flemish circular economy (out of more than 2.8 million working Flemish people), the study shows. "But that's an underestimate," says research leader Kris Bachus (Hiva-KU Leuven). "We only counted the jobs in the sectors that we already consider fully circular. The construction sector, for example, is almost completely excluded, while it also has many circular activities. " Since 2016, job growth in the circular economy has shifted up a gear. -Only last year, after the corona crisis broke out, was a slight decline recorded. "But further growth is expected in the longer term," says Bachus. He refers to earlier models of the Policy Research Center for Circular Economy that predict that an additional 30,000 jobs could be created in Flanders by 2030. The Flemish government, which wants to be a pioneer in the circular economy, sees its "ambition reinforced" with the study, says Flemish Minister of the Environment Zuhal Demir. According to Minister of Work Hilde Crevits, the study also shows that striving for a circular economy "is not only good for the climate, but also for more sustainable job creation". Because on average there are more short and medium-skilled workers in the sector (whose unemployment is sensitively higher than among the highly skilled), this means that extra profit can be made.
In its recovery plan, the Flemish government has therefore set aside 45 million euros for research and innovation in the circular economy.

Belgium: Anti-Semitic caricature removed from textbook
Background: Belgium: Antisemitic Latuff cartoon published in textbook
Via Ynet:
Two months after Ynet first made public a Belgian textbook contained a caricature that could be construed as anti-Semitic, the country's Education Ministry announced Thursday that the upcoming edition of the book will be published without the offensive drawing. A letter forwarded by Belgian Education Minister Hilde Crevits Thursday to attorney Yifa Segal, director of the International Legal Forum—who first exposed the story—notified the lawyer that after a probe and a talk with the book's publisher, the caricature will be removed starting with the book's next edition. The minister added that, "One of the education system's goals is to bring up the younger generation to become respectable, informed citizens" and that the Flemish government only set a bar on academic achievement, leaving selection of appropriate books to each school. The matter initially came to light in late March, when the International Legal Forum NGO was informed by parents from Bruges of a geography textbook intended for 15 year olds and approved by the country's education system. The chapter in which the caricature appeared dealt with purported inequality in water distribution between Israelis and Palestinians residing in the West Bank. The caricature showed an overweight Jew with traditional Jewish payos (or sidelocks) asleep in a bathtub filled with water, contrasted with an old Palestinian woman with an empty water bucket. The cartoon—which may have come from the international human rights group itself—carried a caption that read, "Amnesty International: Israel is denying Palestinians access to adequate water … While settlers enjoy lush lawns and swimming pools!" Attorney Segal, who is deeply involved in the international struggle against the worldwide Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, was astounded by a copy of the textbook she obtained and consequently sent a scathing letter to the Belgian education minister demanding the anti-Semitic caricature be removed summarily.
