matt:NeilI need you to know that I would do anythiggn for you you're such a good boy you're like my little brother you're a blessingto this world
extra thoughts:
-mosquitos find neil tasty and he still gets tons of bug bites even with the bug spray. sorry neil
-they find a banana slug and neil is enamored
-when they're going to sleep, night 1>
Matt: Neil, I need you to know that I get really clingy when I sleep. so if I end up hugging you, just push me off okay?? That's what Dan does!!
Neil: Okay :o
Matt ends up doing exactly what he said he would. Except Neil can't manage to budge Matt off so he lays there for the next 8 hours having to endure Matt's bear hug and only getting 4 hours of sleep.

Geocaching
For people who love to hike and get out in the great outdoors, geocaching can be a great activity. It makes hiking more exciting and adds a new level of excitement to the experience. Geocaching is a game in which people use GPS technology to find a hidden item called a geocache. It is a lot of fun and is a great way to introduce friends to the activity.
I Spy
Hiking can be a great time to play the classic game of I Spy. It is a simple, yet entertaining activity for everyone. It requires no special equipment and requires no preparation. The idea is to use the surroundings as clues for the game. It helps hikers notice things around them.
Greetings on the trail
Greetings on the trail are simple ways to share goodwill with other hikers. In ancient times, explorers marked trees and rocks with a message for the next hiker. Today, you can use sharp sticks to etch messages into the dirt for the next hiker to find. If the dirt is hard, you can wet the stick to make it softer.
Stargazing
Stargazing is a great activity to do on a hike. It's fun for all ages and can help foster an interest in science. Just make sure the sky is dark, and avoid city lights. Light pollution from street lights or even a neighbor's porch can ruin stargazing. National parks usually have much less artificial lighting than other locations.
Hide and seek
Hiking is a great opportunity to play hide and seek. It is a great game that involves hiding and seeking out hidden objects, animals, or people. You can play it with anyone, including kids. If you're hiking with school-age kids, this activity is a great way to keep them entertained. They will love running ahead and hiding while waiting to be discovered.
Counting tree rings
Counting tree rings is a great way to learn about the ages of trees. The rings represent a year in the life cycle of the tree and can also be used to learn more about the current climate. A hike in the woods can be great outdoor gross motor activity for children.
Taking photos or videos
Taking photos or videos of your hiking adventures is a great way to document your experience. You can use them to tell stories about the hike, share them with your friends, or simply look back and enjoy the moments in the landscape. Hiking photos and videos should show your hiking group enjoying the scenery, enjoying the challenge, and having fun.
Planning a scavenger hunt
Planning a scavenger hunt is an excellent way to keep the kids occupied while hiking. The activity keeps children focused on finding things and helps them learn the natural landscape. There are several printable scavenger hunt checklists available online. You can print out these checklists in advance and have them ready to go before your hike.

Hiking can be a fun and exciting activity for friends of all ages. There are numerous activities that can keep the hike interesting, from geocaching to stargazing. No matter what season you go hiking, there is a game for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to document your hike with photos or videos to share with your friends.
