Inside #hightunnel on 23° afternoon in December on the #adirondackcoast at @rosslynredux. Solar gain is insane! Now if we could just figure out an efficient way to maintain some of this warmth after the sun sets… #insanesolargain (at Essex, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmPNETLvlOX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Bottomfield calendula patch is seen here in the foreground with our high tunnel in the background. Lots of hot weather for the next bunch of days means rolling up the sides of the high tunnel and lots of water. Fortunately our transplants are much better settled in the fields this year compared to June of 2020 when we were hit hard by the heat and drought. All told, we got about an inch of rain this week. It’s not that much but it made a huge difference! ••• #farmlife #herbfarm #hillfarm #hightunnel #flowers #herbs #herbalism #vermontgrown #farm #vermontfarm (at Free Verse Farm) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPx9e38hH78/?utm_medium=tumblr

With our greenhouse turned into a temporary workshop for the Polycrub, I’m excited to share with you, that our next project is underway. The first job and not a fun one, was to dig 20 holes into rocky ground, to secure the Polycrub posts. Thank goodness for modern tools and Fastset Postfix, made it so much easier ... 🙏
I can’t imagine having to dig those holes by hand. Anyway, the posts are in and the Postfix is drying nicely, now we wait ...😅
Hope you’re all having a happy weekend ... 🤞Xx
Here’s a link to the Polycrub website, if you’d like to take a peek:

The weather here makes no sense (cold yesterday, hot the day before, this morning it’s in the 40s and it’ll be almost 70 by dinnertime), but there was enough sunshine for a couple hours yesterday afternoon to put together this high tunnel greenhouse for my mom’s garden. Soon it will be full of beautiful flowers and vegetables! #homegardening🌱 #greenhouse #eastTN #hightunnel #starbrightsadventure #momshouse #ontheroadagain #foodblogger #victorygarden #bucketlistadventures (at Limestone, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGcylKXDC1R/?igshid=xiou33yj97gc

Yesterday we prepared for hurricane Isaias’ arrival. We shored up the place, the tunnel/hoop house, bee hives, picked up anything that could puncture or break anything. Thankfully the storm passed by without much of a stir. The rain was welcomed and ducks thoroughly enjoyed running around in it. #hurricane #storm #rain #rainyday #stormyweather #hoophouse #hightunnel #hightunnelgrowing #seasonalhightunnel #beehives #bees #farmlife #farmliving #rural #rurallife #ruralamerica #ruralliving #growyourownfood #growfood #localfood #smallfarm #smallfarms #familyfarm #familyfarming #safety #agriculture #gullahgeechee #farmers (at Morning Glory Homestead) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDc8GFylKCV/?igshid=1t30zp9mj100p

July high tunnel update. We’re phasing out the last of the spring/early summer greens, and transitioning into heat loving herbs for the summer: rosemary, basil, thyme, passionflower, rose geranium, and more! ••• #farmlife #herbfarm #hightunnel #vermontgrown #herbs #rootedinvermont #vermontfarm #vermontlife #vermontbyvermonters #vt #802 #vermont #farm (at Free Verse Farm & Apothecary) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCjb_MqhCra/?igshid=nb0ix2pmwuu2

hepy new yere
just had a spaniel nearly teleport through my head on the way to a squirrel so i’m awake now
am at older sister’s in maryland doing a late christmas. My COVID test results never came back-- the rapid test they did Monday, I got right away, but I have never received the PCR test results and they now are so old they would be irrelevant.
But, I did not need them for this trip, I was only trying to get some basic information. I’m just thinking of all the people who were in line with me though, and how many of them did need the results-- one was a man clearly trying to get home to canada.
and it’s not just my test site; Dude’s test has not come back either, from Tuesday.
So, safe to say, if you need those results to travel, no you can’t. Stay home.
Yesterday we went to a Tandy Leather store half an hour away, which was fun. And then we spent the afternoon setting up one of those carport things-- and farm BIL took charge, because its method of construction is quite similar to the hightunnel greenhouses he’s been constructing at the farm. so he did it Right, and built a jig out of scrap lumber to make sure all the ribs of it went together symmetrically, and we all stood around and helped brace things and passed brackets to each other and such. In the midst of this my dude was sent to fetch something from the workshop, missed his footing, and slid with a series of brutal thumps down the slick wooden steps between that part of the yard and the workshop. He limped around for a bit but insisted he was fine. Today he’s a little sore but not as bad as we’d worried.
We tried to stay up until midnight but at 11:29 we were like “no way” and just counted down to 11:30 and wished one another happy new year and went the fuck to bed. We were all so tired. We figured the low effort was probably just about what 2021 deserved, and we’d save our strength for 2022.
So anyway. Hope y’all saved some strength for 2022. To a better one ahead.

To anyone that doesn’t know or doesnt follow me, I own a farm. I have a little over 300acres that I run with hogs(non-confined), chickens(free-range), turkeys, ducks, horses and my pets. In addition to that, I also grow vegetables. I have two hightunnels(green houses if you will) and about4 patches of mulch that hold a variety of veggies. I planted a little over 200 plants this weekend. It was about 90° on Saturday and around 65° Sunday(thank goodness😪). Needless to say I got really burnt on Saturday. I try my best to put sunscreen on but sometimes the chores come before. So if anyone is willing to put some Aloe lotion on my back for me I’d really appreciate it. Sorry for the long post😅 just thought everyone would enjoy a quick run down of my weekend! I hope everyone has an awesome week!
