Inktober 2020 - Day 10 - DC Comics - Green Lantern (Hal Jordan). Chris Samnee is one of my favorite cartoonists. His mastery of black and white, negative spaces, and design applied to illustration are magnificent. It has a very special place among the authors who are part of my influences. I consider him a true master of B / W. Hal Jordan is not only my favorite Green Lantern, but he is, with Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler), my favorite Superhero. Therefore, it has always had a place among the Inktober pieces since I started with the challenge the year I discovered it, 2018. When it came to facing illustration I did it with Chris Samnee in mind, how would he do it? How and what elements would it present? This is result. Once the month of Inktober is over, this is one of the illustrations that I will return to in large format (A3) to make it completely in color by hand. Inked with Fineliner Staedler (numbers 1.2, 0.8, 0.6, 0.4, 0.2 and 0.05). Chinese Winsor & Newton ink for the illustration whashing technique and mass filling. Coloring with liquid watercolors (anilines) Vallejo. Mask with Schimncke masking liquid. Reservations with washitape. OH GOD.

His birthday is July 14th (I don’t even know how this will fit in the actual story BUT THAT’S HIS BIRTHDAY) he has beautiful, expressive, dark brown eyes and he’s terribly naive. 

He has a large heart and is very very charming. He believes he can seduce his way into and out of anything but he’s still so painfully innocent. 

He tol. And almost good enough to eat.

INDEED. And it is reiterated on the assignment sheet of every paper, repeated and walked through for every paper, and I explained how to access the different formatting features in Word just to be sure. 

tbf, some of my students have wildly varying levels of experience with word processors, in that yesterday, I showed my student the tab key and his jaw dropped bc he’s been using the space bar to start paragraphs manually. 

But you know what? you have to DELIBERATELY CHANGE THE FONT TO MAKE IT 15 and when you have to turn in your rough drafts and they’re formatted right, and SUDDENLY the final draft is 2+ font sizes bigger and your spacing goes all to hell, it’s noticeable. 

I try to warn them, and tell them how particularly unlucky they are that I worked for years in a print shop and thus can actually eyeball the difference between 12 pt. TNR and 12.5 but ... they just. Feel the need to play chicken with me every. damn. semester. 

Just from a self-preservation pov, this is not the mood you want your professor in when she reads a paper you’re already not feeling good about. Why would you do the thing?

like squeeful pointed out earlier, the censoring of the word queer was indeed introduced by TERFS and is an extremely recent development. For years it's been an acceptable reclaimed term

I just linked him to the visual reference and said, well ACTUALLY, yes I *did* know that, but seeing as in the films it’s visually represented this way, that’s how I made the cookies. O__o Like. What do people *get* out of those types of interactions?
