@thesudhirsoni @northernnorway Summer 1100 km from the North Pole. 🙏🏼🙏🏼 for sharing @cristian_costa_photographer ・・・ After two years I'm finally back on the best place on Earth. Up here in the high Artcic Svalbard, you can feel the power of the nature. I'm so glad to be here in Longyerbyen one more time. These houses are my favourite spot in town and with this light I definetly cannot going to bed. __________________ ©️ Cristian Costa with Canon EOS R + Sigma 24-35mm f/2 ART DG HSM _________________ #longyearbyen #svalbard #spitsbergen #spitzbergen #arctic #arcticlife #arcticsummer #visitsvalbard #eriophorum #colourfulhouses #1100kmtonorthpole #higharctic #norway #norja #noorwegen #noruega #norvege #norvège #norvegia #norwegen #scandinavie #scandinavia #skandinavien #escandinavia (at Oslo, Norway) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1LqeLSBRpR/?igshid=5olujifwcnqq

Portrait of Jennifer Crouch in Svalbard. Jamie Lee Mohr (2016).
One of the main objectives of @jennifer.crouch and her extensive project #MakinginTransit was to recreate a type of geographical representation invented by the Inuit communities of Eastern Greenland. People in these religions created these #maps as a form of #tactile encoding of the coastlines, perhaps as items that could be used in navigation by boat. #wood and #driftwood can be found and floats on water, making them practical when traveling in small boats.
Creating these maps involved observation and selection of the most salient, permanent features of the coastlines in the remote archipelago of #Svalbard#higharctic . It also involved the use of #mora blade made from stainless steel. Being grounded in #observation one of the messages encouraged by their making was to pay attention to the stable features and changes in our #environment making the reality of #climate change something we can all connect to. #measurement #data #citizenscience

TBT: i was showing my family my winter gear for working up in the High Arctic 1997. Handmade Kamiks made of carbou & seal with hand-embroidered wool stroud insert & the parka (over wool stroud inner) cover was fabric I provided & borders I made. I even cut out the polar bears for the Inuit sewer to applique on. She provided the white fox fur trim. I kept warm thru every kind of Arctic weather (especially the storm that brought me to my knees one time). #tbt #higharctic #arctic #inuitparka #kamiks

About 200 people (83 percent of them Inuit) live in Resolute, Nunavut, Canada, yearround. A main source of income is providing logistical support for tourism, mining, and research in the High Arctic.
