Since I’m a bit nostalgic these days, I found an old fanfiction I wrote a few years ago (inspiration came from listening to a songabout Yuuki and Kajitsu (aka Momose siblings) from Battle Spirits on Youtube. :)
I’ve always liked this series (and the sequel) because of the complex world and psychology, being dark despite the game side. In particular, Yuuki and Kajitsu story was one of the most touching ever, since they were siblings, reincarnation of separated lovers, got separated again because of the Otherworld King (the enemy of the first season who killed Kajitsu), they find each other’s reincarnation in the future (Battle Spirits Brave) but they are enemies, but at the end, at least, they’re finally able to recollect their original memories and be together. :) I’ll put the fanfiction under “read more” because it is long, but whoever wants to read is welcome! :) It tells Yuuki’s final moments (because in Brave it’s strongly implied that he was killed at one point after the series ends), and the memories of the White King go back to a distant past...
“Anii-sama, will you tell me again about the rose garden fairy tale? That one of the sad king and of the princess who made him smile again!”
The girl's voice, so enthusiastic as she insistently asked, for the umpteenth time, to listen to a fairytale that had always seemed too bright and nostalgic to be only an invention, echoed in his soul, while he kept running.
He did not have to stop. If he hesitated, even for once, he would be reached. And his opponents would not have challenged him to Battle Spirits. The real world had always been so cruel to him, to Kajitsu. They had decided to flee together, to start a new life, when those around them, who were supposed to protect them, did nothing but tame them with monstrosity.
She’s an abomination! That child is a monster! She cannot be my daughter, no! Yuuki, stay away! Are you also like her?! You are not human beings!
Yeah, it would have been nice to live in a fair world. Yet, Yuuki felt he did not even need a place like that, for himself, at least. It was enough for him to see the smile of his little sister, even when, ill, in front of his worried face, she reassured him with a caress and smiled at him, as no one else could do. Kajitsu's hand has always been colder than normal...
She had caressed him even before her death, asking him to find her again. In another time, in another world. And Kajitsu had whispered, in her final moments, that she did not want to die. Of course, damn it! Who wants to die like that?!
Yuuki had faced off the Otherworld King who had taken Kajitsu from him, but he failed. And he had never been so close to death when his core, the diamond, had been damaged.
“Once upon a time, in a distant kingdom, covered by an endless expanse of snow, there was a sad King. At his birth, he only had half of his heart. His father, the former King, fearing that his son would not survive, asked the protecting deity of that kingdom, Ragna-Rock Lord of the Fate Knights, to tell him about the fate of the newborn, the same night he came into the world. He revealed that one day, a hundred years later, the youngest King would have to fight to find the other half of that heart, which lodged in the purest rose, beyond the Diamond World.”
Yuuki put his hand on his chest, hardly breathing. He had lost count of time spent fleeing. He had found shelter in the subway, mingling himself with the irreducible who were hurrying to catch the last train of the evening.
He pulled up the collar of his heavy jacket, taking care not to look at the surveillance cameras. With a little luck, he would have managed to escape the pursuers by going down to the third stop, counting on reaching the neighborhood where Dan lived.
The information he had obtained a few hours earlier, infiltrating the underworld that did the dirty work for the powerful, they would have been precious for their cause. The Core bearers could no longer live. Yuuki had discovered the existence of a plan to silence their voices forever if they did not give up their rebellious intentions.
And if Kenzo, Hideto, Mai, and Clackey had succumbed to the pressure, Yuuki and Dan were the only ones who wanted to fight.
“For Kajitsu. For the memory of the butterfly princess, unjustly soiled, to be finally rehabilitated. For our friend, because her death was unjust and I want her to have justice.”
Dan said it to an upset Yuuki, who had never felt like back then. Knowing that someone else besides him wanted to fight for his sister's memory had given him courage. Power. A little more and it's done. On board the train, among people gripped by thoughts of all kinds, increasingly unaware of lives behind even just a glance, Yuuki picked up one of his favorite cards from his pocket. Ragna-Rock was there. “Anii-sama! The King won the battle, right? And could he find the purest rose?” Yuuki smiled, while Ragna-Rock momentarily vanished from her sight and Kajitsu's lilac eyes peered at him intently.
“Of course he succeeded. But when he arrived at the garden of the Emerald World Palace, he found an expanse of marvelous roses. He could not know which was the one in which the other half of his heart was lodged. And so, he began to examine them all, one by one.”
“The sad King was as attentive as you, Anii-sama!”
Yuuki looked at little Kajitsu, with a touch of pride that made him cheer up. “Even more, my beloved. The task proved to be really difficult, when the King, after collecting the last rose, exhausted, fell to the ground. His broken heart was no longer able to beat with such energy as to allow him even to get up again, he was so weak.
But when he thought he was about to die, he caught sight of someone bending over him. The gentle hand that caressed his hair was warm compared to his skin, glacial, like a diamond. The King looked up, feeling that his heart, at her touch, regained strength. And when he was finally able to get up, he was entranced by the girl in front of him and who smiled at him with infinite sweetness.”
“Who are you, to whom do I owe my life?” He asked, amazed.
Her lilac eyes glittered. “Welcome to my kingdom, my lord. I am the Princess of the Emerald World. Hououga the Relentless Phoenix, the patron deity of this world, had predicted your arrival. You, who are wearing half of my heart, I'm really happy to make your acquaintance, Majesty.”
The announcement of the stop served as a sudden return to reality.
Yuuki hurriedly put his card back in his pocket, then sighed, before heading for the exit. He must be fast, so as not to take risks.
By now, the clock scanned moments at midnight. At that hour, the underpass was deserted, had it not been for some homeless or alcoholic on duty. At that stop, among other things, few people had fallen, now hastened to leave. Yuuki's heart began to beat faster. Few steps still separated him from security. He walked quickly to the stairs that led to the surface, taking courage from just touching the cards he carried in his pocket.
“Momose Yuuki!” A male voice too close to even try to deny or escape.
Yuuki stopped, swallowing. “How many hitmen are you?”
He felt the smug smile of the man he had near. Then he turned his head slightly. Forty, overcoat and black gloves, gun in ceramic stilettos in hand. A classic.
“Boy. Life is not like that game. You know you've crossed the limit, don’t you?” Yuki sharpened his eyes, annoyed. “Life is not a game. You can also spare yourself the how. I've always known it, ever since Kajitsu and I were kids. For us, life has never been even remotely like something pleasant. I hope that at least this is clear to you. That game, as you call it, Battle Spirits, is the only chance my sister and I had to be normal. We did not ask for anything else. She did not. But I imagine that for people like you, like those you work for, my words do not matter. But let me tell you something. Collaborating with the Otherworld King will only bring misfortune. That man whom you have so much praised will be the very cause of your end. You were wrong to trust him and even if you close my mouth now, one day someone will come and put a point on this whole story.”
“Deliver what you have, Momose Yuuki. I will not repeat it again.”
Yuuki brought his hands to his pockets. He knew there was no way for him to escape. One kept him under fire, others had to be hidden, ready to act in case of false moves. It had been imprudent to get off at that stop, he realized it too late.
“The King had a rose garden built in the Diamond World, so that every time the Princess reached him, he felt like he was at home.”
“And then did they live happily ever after, Anii-sama?”
“I would like to tell you that it was so, Kajitsu. But the King had sinned with pride, believing that nothing and no one could separate him from his beloved. That heart split in half, which was completed when both were together, was separated again by the arrival of a cruel enemy who was determined to conquer their kingdoms. And they could not do anything to face him, so powerful he was.”
“But it's terrible ...” Kajitsu's tears were identical to those the Princess had shed when her beloved had been hit.
Yuuki, attempting a last, desperate move, took the first card that happened to him from his pocket. Woden the Great hit the assassin with a smear, allowing Yuuki to take shelter in one of the gullies of the underpass. Dan, I'm sorry...
He took his breath just long enough to get the disk he had hidden in his jacket and destroy it, breaking it in two. The snap revealed its position to the hitman, who reached him in a few moments.
“This is the end, kid. I'm really sorry.”
Yuuki dropped the pieces of the disk to the ground, leaning against the wall behind him. His amber eyes were impenetrable, as was his expression. An icy mask, worthy of a King who had lost the desire to live. He did not hear the shot. The silencer was activated. He felt a pressure at the level of the stomach as if he had received a punch always in the same place and the radiant heat left the place, little by little, in the cold. He collapsed as the assassin picked up the pieces of the disk and put the gun into Yuuki's hand.
“K-Kaji-tsu ...”
Suddenly, it seemed to him that the pain was not even that strong anymore. He lifted, or rather, dragged his arm to his pocket, picking up his two favorite cards for the last time. The memory of their promise.
“Anii-sama ... I'm sure the two separate lovers will be able to meet one day.”
Yuuki had frowned as he set up the deck, ready for his first Grand Rolo battle. Kajitsu's cheeks had resumed a thread of color, a sign that the Progenitor Core which she was the guardian of had recovered some stability. She had hugged him, lightly touching the Ragna-Rock card with her fingers. “It has two seals. White and green. It represented the union of their heart. And the promise, for both of them, to meet again, one day. It did not matter what time, in what place. They would have found each other. And Hououga would have watched over the rose garden, waiting for the moment when the White King and the Green Princess would return.”
Yuuki gasped, feeling his life slip between his fingers. By now, he could not even see his card anymore.
“Yuuki-sama ...” He seemed to hear his voice, sweet and caring as ever, in a whisper. And suddenly his blurred eyes returned to see. Green butterflies, all around him. He regained his strength, feeling his body lighter, free from mortal ties.
Yuuki raised his pale hand, immediately picked up by another hand, equally diaphanous. There was a garden dotted with white and green roses all around.
Yuuki smiled. Kajitsu, in front of him, splendid in her white dress, did the same. “Yuki-sama, in the next era ...”
“We will meet again, I promise. Whatever happens, you and I will meet again.”
The powerful wings of Hohouga slammed, filling the space with rose petals. Yuuki squeezed Kajitsu's hand, which was soon transformed into thousands of butterflies. “Kajitsu! Don’t leave me! Don’t go! I need you!”
*****************************************************
He opened his eyes in the night light. His hand, darker than he remembered, was raised in midair as if he wanted to grab something.
“Again ... that nightmare ...” He sighed, then turned slightly, noticing the extravagant mazoku who had fallen asleep next to his command chair. A green butterfly had settled on his arm. And she had a nostalgic expression, even in her sleep.
“Flora”
Her tail moved as if he had heard it. Zolder Grave smiled, gently touching the emerald wings of the butterfly, which disappeared. He propped himself up on his arm, staring at the sleeping girl.
“I finally found you, Kajitsu ...”

I know this is already obvious, but what does the Battle Spirits staff have against blue battlers?
Kyouka only gets one on-screen battle, and it’s a dream.
Suzuri is the last to join the Bearers of Core’s Light, and thus gets the least screentime.
Brave doesn’t even have a blue user. Zazie started out as one, but then switched to green/purple. Youth and Rugain look like they would use blue, but they’re red and yellow.
Manabu is probably the most successful, but even he was the first member of Battle Spirits Japan to lose.
Sora ends up captured and brainwashed for most of the 2nd half, and Brau never had much luck.
Zero the Azure is short-lived, since Rei gives away U-Alexander.
Souun was screwed over so much both in excess losses and having her entire plotline dropped.
Inui is set to be Kazuya’s first victim, and the other blue user hasn’t even been introduced as of ep.31.

Final ending of BSSB! 😭😭😭😭💖 BTW Loli Gilfam had such a mischievous look... She was actually a piece of cake in Brave...
Basically this three episodes OVA series was kind of a retcon which served to tie the plot holes in the original series and the events that led to Brave, but it also opened to the multiverse... 🤔 I'm still not over the fact that Dan became some kind of interdimensional spirit when the Mother Core already existed... 🤔🤔 Also, the whole Cardinal Sign storyline is confused but they were from the original time when the Light Core Bearers were fighting and they embraced the Otherworld King's ideology (and I wonder if they are the perpetrators of Yuki's murder since in Brave it was quite implied that he was killed at some point...). Overall I liked it as some kind of a tribute to the original series but I want more... 🥺❤️

Little guide to Battle spirits's Contract Saga
Hi! Exactly in a month and 8 days, Battle Spirits's BS64 will be avaiable. And while also the western world is Awaiting Battle Spirits Saga BSS01, I think is the case to get a little Recap of what happend during the previous chapter, the contract saga. So...
BS60: Contract Saga Volume 1 – First Partner
After exactly 2 years of knowing nothing on his whereabouts, Finally Dan Bashin, now known as The Wanderer Dan, makes his comeback. We found him in Recris, a spiritual world consisting of countries, regions, forests, kingdoms,Cities and even an empire under the sea, including some card shaped Slates ( highly probably the ones in the first PV). Over this background, Dan meets The dragonpartner Glow, a spirit that wants that aims to be the strongest. With Dan's help to overcome a pinch, Glow offered to establish a partner contract with him, becoming his first partner. Always in this part Bat, Lampo,Stark, Feaniel and Shack joint the group as Contract spirits.
BS61 : Contract Saga Volume 2 – Liberation of God
The group reaches the burning land, meeting The OracleTwentyOnePillars I The Magician, who reveals that Recris was created by Six oracle spirits and the soul slates were created by minor arcana. To save Recris, it's necessary to meet all the oracle spirits that created it. At Glow's resolution to save their world, the magician promise help. However they get attacked in the old tree forest by The PartnerMusha Oboro and The PartnerBug Gataru, along The Grandwalker Tezcatlipoca. After surviving a hard fight, who's become even way Risky due to The OracleTwentyOnePillars XVIII The Moon, Dan and the spirits continue the journey.
BS62: Contract Saga Volume 3 – Rise of Rivals
In the frozen city Riesgraad for information about one of the 21 oracle pillars, Dan and his group meet Kai, a second contractor, who's signed the world destruction contract. He's joined by The Grandwalker Kukulkan, The PartnerWingedDragon Terad and The PartnerLion Raon. A battle between Glow and Raon ensues, while Kukulkan goes on Dan, who manages to reach the contract spirit. The AnnihilationDragonArmor Omega-Dragonis reaches the place, attacking everybody while near to destroy the city. Thanks to The OracleTwentyOnePillars II The High Priestess's powers, The PartnerMachine Stark advents in The AuroraWarrior Knight-Stark, who succeeds to stop Omega- Dragonis and protect the city. As Kai's group retires, the journey continues.
BS63: Contract Saga Volume 4 - Beyond Evolution
Dan and the contract spirits finally summons all the oracle spirits at the center of Recris. However the real deal comes up as the oracle spirits have to resist The OracleTwentyOnePillars XX The Judgment. As suddenly the Judgment's vanguards appear desroying the soul slates, the contract spirits choose to fight the vanguards at every side of the world. At the same time the final battle between Dan and Kai begins. Dan manages to win, thanks to Bladra who advented into The SunBladeDragon Rising-Bladragon. The truth about Recris is revelated. The world is structured in 3 Layers, as the the Otherworld and the God's world are disappearing due to Recris. As the 2 Layers must not intersect, Tezcatlipoca also says that Dan mustn't been summoned in the God's world. The final showdown between the Judgment and the contract spirits, who joined forces with kukulkan begins, but even they aren't match for the oracle spirit. As Dan finally regains his determination, little small Judgments were born. With the last action from Dan with the newborn fragments, as a light Envelopes anything, Recris is saved. But Dan and the Contract spirits have disappeard into the nowhere. At the end of everything, Kai still asks if somebody (?) Will " repeat the same thing again".
And that's it, for now, folks! Now like said before, at may there's gonna be this new saga, Contract:World Chapter 1 , who will feature the contract shrine girl Toa.
I don't know if Dan and the contract spirits will come back in there or not, but i hope and feel that they can and will. Also, it will be good to see Toa interact with Dan and maybe also Kai.
Gate open, Relase!
