Beautiful and heartwarming as always 💖
This made my day!🫶🏻💕 Thx
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s some PREGSTRID for everyone who requested it!! I had so many of you ask for some actual pregstrid “scenes” and I’m still technically working on those, but in the meantime here’s some little sketches. (And don’t think I’ve forgotten the concept in the fourth panel where they’re older 😈 that 3rd kid is still on my radar) (can’t let toothless’s family outnumber the haddocks)
And Bonus: (for those of you who also wanted some more RTTE early Zephyr au)…
Tumblr media
More of that coming soon too!!

i just rewatched Homecoming (How to train your dragon, not Spider- Man) for the first time since 2019 (when it came out) and i'm crying. I remember not liking it much when i first watched it, so i have never rewatched it but it was not nearly as bad as i remembered it. I mean i still don't like that they did the whole "Stoick befriended the dragons instead of Hiccup" because that's disrespectful to everything Hiccup has ever done and he deserves better than that-
but
i loooooove domestic Hiccstrid and i adore their kids! Zephyr with her wits and go big or go home mentality while still being so sweet and protective over her brother. And little Nuffink who can, in his mother's words, "take a hit" and still keep on smiling and with his adorable accent. New Berk is also so beautiful and i truly wish we could have gotten a little mini series or something about their lives there because there's still so much story left to tell with these characters! I wanna see Hiccup travel to America, finding new solutions to problems previously solved by their dragons, seeing him as chief, their annual visits to see the dragons (after the ten year jump it happens more frequently don't fight me on this, i'll agree with the little break between the good bye and the reunion in The Hidden World but after that they visit each other a lot cause it's been ten years and most of the dangers for the dragons are probably gone so they can see still see each other now but very sneakily, that is law). I also wanna see more of Hiccup and Astrid as parents, i wanna see Snotlout finding a wife and see him as a dad, I want Dagur to come back and create chaos and i wanna see Hiccup as a chief (i know i already said that but i really wanna see more of that).
I just love this universe so much and even though we've have gotten like three movies, 45 short movies, two long running (flying) series, several comic books, an entire book series of 12 books and probably several other things that have escaped my mind i still wanna see more (but that's on me, I'm greedy).

an in depth analysis of why every character was written horribly, even without the dumb reset
Tumblr media
Steve
I mean this one’s obvious. We had someone with such great character development in Trollhunters, 3Below, and Wizards. Personally think that Steve was fine in Wizards (I like his knight subplot) and I thought they were setting up Steve recreating knights of the roundtable, but guess not lol.
He didn’t even get to fight. He had a strong start in the movie and his concern for Jim really shows his growth from being his bully, but then he got immediately turned into a punchline.
Eli
All of Eli’s involvement with the plot happened offscreen. It’s great that he created the gun robot, but that’s it. Then he got turned into a midwife for Steve.
Krel
Also a lot of the involvement happened offscreen. He remade the amulet which was cool, but it should’ve held more weight. The amulet should’ve been introduced way later into the movie.
And okay as much as I love Stuart why did he need to fix the Amulet KREL WAS RIGHT THERE WHY WAS STUART RELEVANT
I know Stuart is good with electronics and he even made Seklos’ canon back in 3below but this is such an annihilation of Krel’s genius.
Plus the whole “It needs to have Merlin’s magic” thing was bs HELLO DOUXIE WAS RIGHT THERE THE ORIGINAL AMULET WAS ALSO MADE WITH HIS MAGIC
Aja
I’m glad she’s come into the role of queen, but by god she was so cold to Jim for no reason. She knows what it’s like to be powerless. She lost her parents to a coup and couldn’t do anything!!!! SHE AND JIM HAD THE MOST UNDERSTANDING IN 3BELOW.
Also evacuating the earth goes so much against who she was in 3below. She ADORED the Earth. Loved everything about it, not just the people.
And by god the kissing Akiridion lore is so dumb and so obviously thrown in there with no thought on how it would’ve affected 3Below. The kissing tree is ruined and her relationship with Steve is ruined.
Claire
bruh what do you mean her magic is spent this was not a problem in Wizards. She barely does any shadow magic and then it is spent. How many times are you gonna nerf her like that
I’ve always said Jlaire is what Hiccstrid should’ve been and in the end they become what I dislike about Hiccstrid. Claire was a prize for Jim and was reduced to Girlfriend who Fights. She didn’t have any meaningful or fun interactions with any other character. Really nobody did
Douxie
@douxie-casperan goes in much more in depth here https://douxie-casperan.tumblr.com/post/657457589076000768/rise-of-the-titans-and-the-assassination-hisirdoux but i’ll add my thoughts as well
the narrative just gives him one big trauma conga line without addressing any of it. Douxie was tortured by the order and absolutely no one wants to check he’s alright????? Just immediately start questioning him??
Archie was his companion for CENTURIES and all he says is “I hope he’s happy?????” honestly this was just httyd3 for them but without any of the emotion
Nari died and Douxie should’ve fucking snapped by that point. He should’ve gone avatar mode again when Nari got stabbed and help Nari kill Skrael on the spot. And then Nari would die. He should’ve been on his knees sobbing hearing Nari say “no more running” one last time. It would’ve been a great parallel to Wizards.
And then he also was nerfed with his powers but with no explanation. The body swap spell was great. Power move. Everything else was no. Not to mention his magic was so inconsistent like hello that’s not what tenebris excellium does
He took on the order alone in wizards with a tenebris excellium but then bellroc overpowers him and flicks him away like w h  at.
Toby
If Toby was going to die and have his friendship with Jim be prioritized at all, then for the love of god stop reducing him to a punchline. I mean the series has this issue as well, but he’s supposed to be important here. There are barely any meaningful moments with Jim outside of his death scene and moments from the series.
Charlemagne
Literally used as a plot device. Guy who knows a guy. I mean, that’s kind of what he was used for in Wizards as well, but his character moments with Douxie was why he was important. Honestly no reason for him to be in this movie.
Archie
Archie CHOSE TO BE A FAMILIAR AND DEFY CHARLIE’S WISHES TO BE WITH DOUXIE AND THEN HE SAYS NO THANKS I’LL JUST BE WITH MY DAD FOREVER????????
Strickler + Nomura
Literally brought into this movie just to be a casualty. I will admit I like the small interaction between Douxie and Nomura but he barely knows her so there’s no reaction to it. Their deaths were so goddamn stupid how would a bomb defeat a magical being and why would you send a changeling to brazil.
Jim
Jim. Oh buddy Jim. For a character with pretty much the only tangible arc in this movie, they sure botched that up. I was ready for the arc to be about him being weak, but I figured it would be due to turning human, not losing the amulet. We’ve been through the fact that without the amulet he’s still the trollhunter. But now he’s back to being powerless. That’s what his arc should’ve been about being powerless, not the amulet.
I’m not a fan of making him the center of the movie when he’s had way more screentime than anyone else. and to learn a lesson HE ALREADY LEARNED. I wouldn’t have minded as much if his arc was handled any good.
I hate to say this about one of my favorite emotional characters, but Jim kept angsting way too much throwing pity party after pity party for himself. Like we get it dude. Outside of that he was so emotionless as a leader. There was no charm to him at all. He honestly could’ve given less of a crap about anyone else besides the og gang.  He honestly reminds me a little of rtte!hiccup and how hiccup treated his friends terribly from time to time rip
Douxie getting tortured?? After he fought tooth and nail for him when Jim was hurt in wizards??? Immediately starts pestering him for answers. Where is his kindness? His selflessness? The trademark Jim sacrifice??? BECAUSE GOING BACK SURELY WASN’T A SACRIFICE

I SAW HOMECOMING
THERE’S SO MANY THINGS I LOVED I HAD TO DO WHAT I DID AFTER HTTYD 3 AND MAKE A BIG LIST OKAY LETS GO
(in no particular order)
- Nuffink sitting all attentive and listening to his Dad talk about leaving food out for Toothless
- ‘we all like trout!’
- NUFFINK’S VOICE IS THE MOST ADORABLE THING I EVER DID HEAR, but also I swear he had a somewhat scottish accent? Idek. It said in the credits that he’s voiced by Liam Ferguson and I tried to look him up but found nothing. Whether Nuffy was putting it on and being all cooky and cute (because he sounded american in some parts to me too idk why) I honestly couldn’t tell but it’s kind coincidental how i literally made this post last week:
Tumblr media
...and I guess I was a little onto something? spooky
- Zephyr is absolutely her fathers daughter - making traps? inventions? Looking at random books she found in the attic? We love to see it
- THE TOOTHLESS TAPESTRY IN THE HADDOCK’S HOME
- “three if you don’t count Black Plague Friday” “Yeah, nothing gets done, everyone’s just shopping and coughing” EYE-
- “and then it hit me” *gets knocked out by his kids* A+ gag
- The nightlights drawing Hiccup with wings because they’re like ‘nononono. here dad let us fix it’ that made me go aw
- Astrid having to take a step back because her husband’s flailing arms are literally going to knock her out if she doesn’t.
- The nightlights being chaotic. again. we love to see it
- Gobber thinking Hiccup has a fake nightfury head just for personal reasons and not for the pageant
- “Zephyr designed the whole trap herself!” SHE SOUNDED SO PLEASED. PEAK MAMSTRID
- Also “What did I say about using the good nets? Kids!” and just going off after them whilst leaving Hiccup hanging from a trap. Domestic parent hiccstrid is on POINT
- Toothless and the Lightfury having a melt down when their kids went missing, also Toothless going OFFIT when he finally finds them and threethless and fourthless putting all the blame on poor fivethless lmao
- “I do not run like that!... Do I run like that?”
- idk why but just the way he fucking smacked his lips and was like “um I read the script Gobber and i have some notes-” idk idk it’s just funny
- “da da da! we’re doomed” I UNDERSTOOD THAT REFERENCE
- NIGHTLIGHT NOISES
- one word. “HONEY”
- “I touched one! I touched a dragon - that’s hardcore!” along with “I would say I was a lot more heroic” yeah yeah hiccup we know you were a cool kid. absolute badass
- THE PART THAT LITERALLY MADE ME CRY - ZEPHYR GOING BACKSTAGE TO FIND HER DAD AND JUST HAVING A MOMENT WITH TOOTHLESS. HER REFLECTION IN HIS EYES!!!!!!!! I’M TEARING UP JUST TYPING IT WAS THE BEST PART OF THE ENTIRE THING ISTG.
- Hiccstrid walking with their arms intwined as their kids play and run ahead of them before having a sweet hug. made my heart do a flip :’)
- The haddock’s inviting Gobber back because he’s a member of their family :’) would’ve been great if y’know..... Hiccup’s mother was there... grandmother to his children and all..... maybe even his good pal Eret..... I’m not bitter I swear
- *zephyr holds nuffink and gobber back so her trap can go off and they don’t get caught* “Okay you’re good” and Hiccup going “So proud :)” !!!!!!!!!! ME TOO I LOVE THIS CHILD
- “maybe it’s our turn to visit them!”
- The end credits being to the ending scene from httyd 3. literally the best way they could’ve ended it
That’s all I can think of at the momennt but all in all I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. If I had to rank it I’d say (imo) it’s either on par or just a teenie tiny bit below gotnf would’ve been easily above if there was some nana valka and uncle eret but whatever, 10x better than dotdr. I loved it :’)

An alternate idea to the post I had about Hiccstrid having a third baby (original post HERE)
When the Haddock family start to sail home, Astrid notices that Hiccup is deep in thought, clearly musing to himself. He entertains and dotes on their children as they chatter excitedly about Toothless and Stormfly, about the Light Fury and the Night Light hatchlings, but she can see in his eyes that he’s considering and full of thought. He needs time to process, given how bittersweet this meeting as been, so she decides not to say anything yet - he’ll come to her if and when he needs to.
When they get back to New Berk, it’s late evening and the children are exhausted from several days spent on a boat. They put the kids to bed with little restraint; Zephyr yawns and kisses her father goodnight, claiming that he’s “the best Daddy in the Archipelago” whilst Nuffink allows his mother to tuck him in, telling her that he loves her, that she’s “the coolest mummy” because she rides dragons and knows how to use an axe.
Once certain that the kids are asleep, the parents retreat to their own bed - though not to sleep, not just yet.
There’s something strangely satisfying about making love after their trip - being on a boat for nearly a whole week, sharing the small space with their two children, made it impossible to do this. There’s something about the way that Astrid claws at her husband’s back, seated on his lap, whilst the scruff of his beard brushes against her skin - it’s wild, though they are careful not to be too loud since waking the children is the last thing they want. It’s over far too soon, but it’s not going to be their only time - they have most of the night still.
Afterwards, they lie together, intertwined and trying to catch their breath; still panting, sated after climax, she hears her husband’s voice start to mumble.
“Astrid...” He’s quiet, absolutely wrecked from their activities. “I know, I know this is stupid but...let’s have another baby.”
Astrid’s eyes open, and she stares at him in bewilderment. “What?”
“Like I said, it’s stupid,” He chuckles, and he’s gazing at her face in pure and utter adoration. “But after this trip...seeing that Toothless is okay...I feel so complete. Like I don’t have to worry anymore that he’s doing okay. I think that it’s the right time, if we want to have another child.”
“We have two,” She reminds him, though she’s smiling to herself.
“I know, and look at how amazing they are,” Hiccup agrees. “Gods, I love them more than anything, just as much as I love you.”
Astrid hums, stretching out beneath the furs and pressing herself against the length of his body. “Remember when Nuffink was born,” She says gently, and she sees the smile falter slightly.
“Yeah... That’s why it’s dumb,” He admits. “I’m sorry...I shouldn’t have said anything. I know it’s not about what I want - I mean, you’d be the one doing most of the work for nine months - and birth is...yeah, no, I’m being dumb. Sorry.”
“I wasn’t saying no,” She tells him, cupping his face.
“So what are you saying?” He asks, and she can see that he’s hopeful again despite trying not to be.
She knows that she can tell him no, that he will respect her decision and say no more of the matter; he won’t resent her or love her any less, he will understand. He knows better than anyone how close she was to dying when their son was born, and she knows that it had nearly destroyed him. He adores Zephyr and Nuffink, and nothing will change that - he’s a good father, she thinks, a wonderful one. She has a choice, and she’s fully aware of that - she’s never once felt forced to have their children or to be anything other than herself when it came to him.
“I’m saying,” Astrid says softly, smiling widely. “That I’m a Viking - it’s an occupational hazard.”
“Astrid, I mean it,” He murmurs, though she can see the excitement brimming within him. “You don’t have to, not if you don’t want to-”
“What if I want to?” She interrupts, and there’s no trace of a lie in her voice or on her face. “Because, Thor help me, I do.”
“Oh. Oh, Astrid...” Hiccup breathes, leaning in to kiss her again. “Milady...”
“I want to,” She says again, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. “Let’s do it - let’s have another baby, Hiccup.”
He wastes no time in rolling on top of her, worshipping her body and murmuring against her skin about how much he loves her, how he will always love her, how he feels so lucky...and he does, he really does.

I've been trying of a Hiccstrid fic idea: that Hiccup built a "love nest" for their honeymoon, in a secluded area of New Berk. And maybe they still go there from time to time, when they want to rest from their daily life or even have some "special time" with each other. Also, your fics are adorable, I always stop by the HTTYD tags to read them :3
Hey there! Really great idea!  :) Also, thank you so much. I am so happy that you enjoy my fics. That made me smile.
I am wanting to also dedicate this to @martabm90 for her birthday that’s tomorrow (April 11th.) I hope you have a really awesome birthday! Love ya, darlin!
A Little Getaway
“Gods…I’m exhausted,” Astrid sighed and rested her head on the table in front of her after the last member of the council left the Great Hall.
It had been a long meeting. Actually, it had been a long week. Both Zephyr and Nuffink had just gotten over having a cold that kept the whole house awake for days, and now they were both well but their parents were worn out.
She felt Hiccup place his hand on the small of her back and began rubbing soothing circles that made her eyes begin to droop. If he did that any longer she’d be asleep in a matter of minutes and he’d either have to carry her home or leave her here with a wooden table for a pillow.
“I have an idea,” Hiccup spoke softly from his spot next to her.
This got her to turn her head to face him but she didn’t lift it off the wooden structure, “Yeah? Well, I hope it involves sleeping.” Astrid yawned.
Hiccup smirked, “It does. Somewhat.”
She waited for him to continue.
“Why don’t we go to…our spot? Just for tonight?” He asked her.
Their spot. It was this tiny little cabin deep in the forest that overlooked a little cove that had a small pond, tall grass, and mossy rocks.
Hiccup had built it right before they got married and the two not only spent the entirety of their honeymoon there but also used it as an escape when they needed it.
But they hadn’t been in over a year. Not since before their son was born.
It sounded like a great idea. The quiet peaceful forest and nothing to disturb them but the sounds of birds and animal life. It would be just the two of them…something they hardly ever got any more.
But there was one thing keeping her from agreeing, “What about the kids?”
“My mom could watch them for the night. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind.” Hiccup answered smoothly like he had already thought this whole thing through.
Astrid lifted her head off the table. Her lips were pursed in thought and then slowly turned into a smile the longer she thought about them being alone and together and all the things that went along with that.
“Okay…for one night.” She agreed.
The smile that spread across her husband’s face was so bright and cheerful and the excited look glinting in his green eyes made him look eighteen again. She’d be stupid to say no.
He leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek before standing up and pulling her along with him.
***
The spot hadn’t changed a bit. Some things were overgrown and vines were growing up the sides of the cabin but it hadn’t changed. It still looked like the same homey cabin that it did almost ten years ago.
Hiccup started a fire the moment they arrived and the couple was currently resting by it on top of soft furs and snuggled in each other’s arms.
Hiccup bent his head down and pressed his lips to the top of her head.
Astrid sighed sweetly at the contact, “This was a good idea.”
“I agree.” Hiccup replied, moving his head to the side of her face and kissing her neck and then her jaw and then her cheek.
It sent this warm tingling feeling throughout her whole body and suddenly she found herself wanting more than just small kisses trailed up her neck and her face. She wanted him. So, Astrid turned her head so he could kiss her lips next and after she kissed him back and tangled her hands in his soft hair, the two didn’t stop.
And they both may have been tired but they missed this even more - being as close as possible to one another while also being completely alone. And all of that combined together made for one of the best nights they’d had in a while.
But the exhaustion did eventually creep up on the two and both found themselves asleep and tangled in each other’s arms with two of the most relaxed and happy smiles spread across their face.

My view on the HTTYD Next Generation (Zephyr, Nuffink and OCs)
Since How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World hit theaters a few months ago and since I cried at the end, here is my view on the next generation.
The Haddock Family (Hiccup and Astrid):
We obviously already got their two adorable kids, but I personally think Hiccup and Astrid leave it on two. Since I have thought of the next gen since before we knew about Zeph and Nuff, I had already thought of three kids. When they got canon kids, I couldn’t do anything but re-arrange what I had.
Of course, their first-born child is Zephyr Stormfly Haddock. According to the art-book, she takes after her father the most, up to a nervous personality. I could see her, after her teens, as a mature, responsible leader-to-be, taking her job very serious, since she is the first female Chief.
The second is Nuffink Toothless Haddock, probably the trouble-maker of the family. As he is described, he takes more after Astrid, so I can see him as one with a fire within, but gentle and with a heart of gold. He would probably become a warrior, like his mother.
As for the next gen ocs, the first one is Hiccstrid’s third child and second daughter, Alischa “Liz” Valka Haddock. She has, overall, more parts of Hiccup’s character with Astrid’s temper and their combined stubborness. She is, like her mother, someone who needs a voice of reason in her life.
The fourth child is a boy named Stoick Finn Haddock II and he is the emotional teenager of the family. He is grumpy, hates the world and doesn’t give a damn about what happens in the village, since the only things he cares about are books.
Toothless and Light Fury Family:
Of course we already know they have three hatchlings and everyone gives them different names, so here are my options about their names. However, they can change once we get the real names:
The first litter consists of the canon-but-not-named Night Lights:
The first one, the more black one with blue eyes, I call Eclipse and is a female. Zephyr would be her rider and she would be more like her mother, the Light Fury - very distant of humans. However, once she gets to know them, she would love them like her father.
The white one, Lunar, is called after her mother, but is nothing like her. She is enthusiastic about everything she sees and wants to learn everything possible. She absolutely loves humans, and especially Nuffink. They would probably be friends for life.
The youngest one of the trio, the black one with green eyes, is Solar. He is named after the position of the sun in the sky, ruling over the lands. He is very wary of humans, especially since he is chosen by the Dragons to take over the role of Alpha after his father steps back.
Now for the second litter, considering of ocs:
The oldest of the two is called Safire and looks almost identical to her father, despite her having several white spots and more swift wings and fins. Her rider is Liz Haddock and in the fanfic I’m writing, they play the main rolls. Safire is more like her mother, but without being wary about humans.
The rest of the following characters are all ocs.
The Ingerman Family (Fishlegs and Heather):
The first one, Helena Windshear Ingerman, is the new apprentice in the forge and Zephyr’s best friend. She is the ultimate mom-friend, always worried and nervous about what her friends (and siblings) are doing, but also pretty smart and capable of letting things go.
Then you have the twins, Fay Heather Ingerman and Veena Astrid Ingerman. Where Veena is outgoing and hyperactive, Fay is more calm and collected. She is someone who thinks too much, while her sister is more the person to jump right into something.
The youngest, Hugo Oswald Ingerman, is the smartest kid you will ever meet. He is Stoick’s best friend and often comes with good advice for the emo teen to get him out of his issues. However, he has a great interest with everything that comes with Dragons and weapons.
The Broken Family (Snotlout and Ruffnut, Ruffnut and Eret, Snotlout and Minden):
Here’s where things get complicated, but I’ll explain it.
Around a year to two years before Zephyr was born, Snotlout and Ruffnut were in the like-not-like situation and from that, Thorvald Hookfang Jorgenson was born. However, Ruffnut was also in love with Fishlegs, but since she just had a son with another man and saw her crush already moving on to Heather, she decided to let it slide and care for her baby.
Things didn’t work out for Ruff and Snotlout and they parted ways very quickly. Half a year after Thorvald’s birth, they decided to share their son and went to life in different houses. Five months later, Ruff had a drunk night with Eret and from that, Audun Eret Thorston and Hialti Ruffnut Thorston were born. Eret, trying to be a good father, still cared for them, but he didn’t want a relationship with Ruff. However, they remained good friends and Ruffnut decided she was happy.
In the meantime, Snotlout married Minden. They had, in the year Stoick II was born, a daughter, Ylva Minden Jorgenson. However, when the Wingmaidens were attacked, Minden left to help. She was never seen again and Snotlout assumed she had died, leaving him to care for a small child and his son.
Thorvald is nothing like his parents. He is kind and caring, loving nothing more than to see others happy. He is engaged to Zephyr, and they are as much in love as Zephyr’s parents are.
Audun is cocky. He appreciates his own voice and appearance more then the well-being of even his family. He has spend years to take Zephyr away from his half-brother - succeeded for a while - and definately deserved it when Nuffink and Liz fought him for cheating on their sister.
Hialti is very nervous, although she loves attention. At the prill age of seventeen, she got pregnant by a man who loved her, but died in an accident. She gave birth to her son, Stian, at eighteen and never got over her lost love.
Ylva is shy and very emotional. She cries at the most subtle sentences - especially if they involve her mother. She has a crush on Stoick and brings the best out of him - but he doesn’t see it.
The Thorston Family (Tuffnut and Aine (oc)):
Tuffnut met, sometime after The Hidden World, a woman named Aine and they quickly fell in love. From that came their twins - since twins run in the family.
Annika Masey Thorston is the oldest of the two and Nuffink’s admiror. She stumbles over her words with ease, blushes very quickly, but has great humor and has her father’s smarts.
Kjell Lloyd Thorston the the second of the twins and loves to get in trouble. He is, what they call, an idiot, but a sweet one. He cares a lot about his friends - especially Fay - and is always up for a joke.
The Berserker Family (Dagur and Mala):
The oldest and so the heir of the Berserkers is called Ingrid Heather Berserker. She is a year younger than Nuffink - her parents decided to first combine the Berserkers and Defenders of the Wing properly. Ingrid is more strict like her mother, but also a little bit crazy and adventure-loving like Dagur.
Oh God this went on for longer then I expected.
If anyone has questions about the characters or backstories, since I didn’t explain everything here, or about the fanfiction I’m writing, send them! I’ll be happy to answer!

HTTYD: The Hidden World -  Thoughts!
I’m going to try and stay entirely positive here, because even though I had a few qualms with the movie (and, when the poster was released, wondered why they were trying to market a character that was clearly made of sparkly white playdough) I adored it, I adored all the throwbacks it made, and I’ve adored the trilogy overall. Spoilers will be placed under the cut!!
(These won’t be in a particular order, by the way)
 - The Hidden World. Oh. my. GOD.
- I adored the hidden world itself. I loved the waterfall entrance. I loved the design, the colours, the fireworms flocking like starlings, the transparent eggs containing glowing little baby dragons!!! The concept of so much of it - and especially the dragons, including ones we’ve seen before - functioning based on bio-luminescence was extremely clever and well-executed. (It healed my heart because I’m still salty about the loss of the huge, serpentine, glowing sea beast we could’ve had for an antagonist in the first movie instead of a grey and red turd with wings.)
- Berk!! The designs were breathtaking for all of the houses and dragon-related facilities!!
- Given that, however, and since these things are designed for dragons, you’d have thought they’d be made to withstand more than one large dragon knocking into them?? Like?? Do you guys just rebuild these every week or something??
- Eret is back!! I really like his character, and enjoyed seeing more of him helping out around Berk and becoming closer friends with Hiccup.
- About 45% of the movie being about people thirsting over or being jealous of Eret?? Apparently it’s more likely than you think.
- THE SOUNDTRACK. GOD.
   - All of the little hints of older themes coming through in the new tracks was           absolutely delightful. Seriously.
   - When Hiccup, Astrid and the kids are on the boat and meet Toothless, a             rehash of Forbidden Friendship was played and it snipped my heartstrings           one by one??
   - As Long As He’s Safe is the best damn track and I will fight anybody on this.       Seriously. ALL OF THE BITS FROM ‘LOSING MOM’. WHAT. JOHN POWELL WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS.
   - The Test Drive reprises were all astounding.
   - The music when the dragons all fly away??? yeah congratulations John Powell you’re cancelled
  - THE LITTLE BIT AFTERWARDS WAS DELIGHTFUL
 - I should probably do a separate soundtrack post this is gonna take too long
- Ruffnut annoying Grimmel??? The comic relief we needed
- I liked how the comedy was spread and not forced, but also very in-keeping with the comedic style they’ve been using.
- I wanted more snarky Hiccup, not gonna lie?? There?? Wasn’t nearly enough snark???
- MORE HICCUP AND VALKA INTERACTIONS PLS
- Gobber?? A legend.
- “Ye’ve got the body of a Norse God.” I WILL LITERALLY NEVER RECOVER FROM THIS
- That said, the Snotlout and Valka thing was kinda funny at first but it also just felt kind of...weird and tired after a while.
- However I love how he does that thing that kids do where they just call their friend’s parents “(name)’s mom”
- I’m sick of Ruffnut trying to pick a boyfriend, this got old before the sequel had even ended
- I LOVE the big dragon at the start. He’s just huge and dorky and a fire-breathing version of a great dane puppy??
- CLOUDJUMPER. VALKA AND CLOUDJUMPER. WONDERFUL.
- As sad as the parting of Hiccup and Toothless is?? I feel like they should’ve further emphasised the goodbye between Valka and Cloudjumper. Hiccup and Toothless?? These bitches have known each other for 6 years. Sweet. But? Valka and Cloudjumper?? That is literally 21 years of constant companionship. When she’d first been taken away, I imagine she felt lost and afraid and depended on him a LOT, and now they’re so in-sync and codependent that theirs sometimes feels like the strongest human-dragon relationship. Yes, we got a tearful goodbye, and sometimes less is more, but in this case I feel like the emphasis we got wasn’t the emphasis we needed.
- BABY FURIES
-HICCUP’S KIDS
- THE LIGHT FURY LOOKING LIKE AN AXOLOTL IN DESIGN WAS SUPER INTERESTING AND COOL
-HICCSTRID
- I missed seeing more of Gothi and the Terrible Terrors
- Same for most of the riders - I love the little snippets of their bonds with their dragons, and I know the lack was due mostly to plot and runtime but I would’ve loved to see more.
- STOICK. STOICK. MY BOY. STOP APPEARING. EVERY FLASHBACK MADE ME WEEP.
- I loved the NightLight forbidden friendship style scene
- “So NOW you can draw?!” Hiccup holy shit
I’m sorry for the few gripes on the list, but I wanted to fling my feelings into one place!!

OTP Questions: Modern AU Hiccstrid
Saw this OTP tag on my dash and loved it so much I decided to do all the questions for fun. Original post can be found here: https://jkgrimborn-thederanged.tumblr.com/post/166011903080/otp-questions
All my answers are based on my Modern AU Married Hiccstrid, since they seem to be questions geared towards a modern couple.
1: Who spends almost all their money on the other? Hiccup spends almost all his money on Astrid while they’re dating. He’s a hopeless romantic and loves to spoil her. When they’re married, he’s still the one to set aside money from his paycheck to take her to dinner, buy her candy, etc.
2: Who sleeps in the other’s lap? Hiccup sleeps with his head in Astrid’s lap. As he sleeps, she plays with and braids his hair.
3: Who walks around the house half-naked and who yells at them to put on some clothes? Astrid is the one who walks around half-naked (usually just Hiccup’s t-shirt and her panties or a sports bra and exercise leggings). She'll also sit around in a towel for an hour after a shower. Hiccup doesn’t mind, but tells her to get dressed if company’s coming over soon.
4: Which one tells the other not to stay up all night and which one stays up all night anyway? Hiccup is the night owl. Astrid tells him to go to bed, but he often doesn’t listen.
5: Which one tries to make food for the other but burns it all by accident and which one tells them that it’s okay and makes them both cookies? Astrid decides to surprise Hiccup with a big dinner, but then burns the food. Hiccup makes the cookies, and after that they decide to just cook together so Astrid can learn how and Hiccup can have an edible meal.
6: Which one reads OTP prompts and says “Oh that’s us!” and which one goes “Eh, not really”? Astrid says “That’s us!” Hiccup often disagrees.
7: Which one constantly wears the other’s clothes? Astrid wears Hiccup’s clothes. His t-shirts, his sweats, his hoodies…she wears his clothes more than her own.
8: Which one spends all day running errands and which one says “You remembered [thing], right?” Hiccup is kind enough to offer to run errands, while Astrid is constantly texting him to remind him of stuff.
9: Which one drives the car and which one gives them directions? Hiccup drives. Astrid gives directions. But they end up lost all the time anyway, which usually sparks a fight about who’s right or wrong, who’s fault it was that they’re lost, etc.
10: Which one does the posing while the other one draws? Astrid poses. Hiccup draws.
11: If they were about to rob a museum, which one does backflips through lasers and which one is strolling behind with a bag of chips? Astrid would definitely do backflips. I can’t picture Hiccup with a bag of chips, but I guess he’d have to be the one to do it. TBH, I could actually picture Astrid back-flipping while holding chips.
12: Which one of your OTP overdoes it on the alcohol and which one makes the other stop drinking? Astrid is the drinker. Hiccup is always the designated driver and the one to let her know when she’s had enough.
13: Which one likes to surprise the other with a lot of small random gifts? Hiccup surprises Astrid more. Although she likes the idea of surprise gifts, she never knows what to buy Hiccup.
14: Which one keeps accidentally using the other’s last name instead of their own? Before they’re married, Astrid keeps referring to herself as Astrid Haddock. Once they’re married, it’s no accident anymore though.
15: Which one screams about the spider and which one brings the spider outside? Neither of them are scared of spiders, but I could picture Astrid killing it more than Hiccup.
16: Which one gives the other their jacket? Hiccup gives Astrid his jacket.
17: Who keeps getting threatened by the other’s overprotective older sibling? So they’re both only children, but hypothetically, Dagur (Hiccup’s “brother”) is overprotective of him.
18: Who’s the first one to admit they have feelings for the other? Hiccup admits his feelings first, but he’s shy about doing so.
19: How good would your OTP be at parenting? They’re awesome parents. Astrid is the cool “friend” mom, and Hiccup is the overprotective dad.
20: Which one types with perfect grammar and which one types using numbers as letters? Hiccup is the grammar nerd. Astrid doesn’t overuse text language, but she’s way more likely to do it than Hiccup.
21: Who gets attacked by a bully and who protects them? They don’t really encounter bullies, but if they did, Astrid would protect Hiccup as he was attacked.
22: Who makes the bad puns and who makes a pained smile every time the other makes a pun? Hiccup makes bad puns. Astrid pretends to be amused.
23: Who comes home from work to see that the other one bought a puppy? This is a hard one because they’re both animal lovers, but I think Hiccup is more likely to bring home a puppy without announcing anything first, his excuse being that the puppy needed to be rescued.
24: Which one gives the other a piggyback ride when they’re tired? They both give piggyback rides, but Hiccup is more likely to carry Astrid on his back as she sleeps. She’s also the one more likely to fall asleep outside of the house.
25: Which one competes in some sort of activity and which one does the overzealous cheering? Astrid plays volleyball and Hiccup is her number one supporter.
26: Who takes a selfie when the other one falls asleep on their shoulder? Astrid takes selfies when Hiccup falls asleep on her. To embarrass him, she sends them to Valka, who finds the pictures adorable.
27: Which one would give the other a makeover if they asked? Hiccup has given Astrid a makeover before. He’s actually good at doing her nails. She’s forced him to get a haircut before, but he didn’t ask, so it was kinda done against his will.
28: Which one owns a pet that the other is absolutely terrified of? Um…I think Hiccup’s the bigger animal lover, so I imagine him to get a dangerous lizard or something that Astrid would be scared to feed.
29: Which one holds the umbrella over both of them when it rains? They take turns, but Hiccup, in an effort to be gentlemanly, holds it while they’re first dating. Once they’ve been together for a while, Astrid takes initiative and holds it.
30: If your OTP went on vacation, where would they go and what would they do? Who would take the pictures? Somewhere adventurous, with a lot of hiking. Probably an island like Hawaii or maybe Mexico, or even a cross-country trip across the United States. They’d do a lot of outdoorsy activities. Astrid would take the most pictures. She’s kind of obsessed with it.

She’s not my soulmate [chapter I]
The first part of a little Hiccstrid story I’ve written recently. Soulmate AU.
Dedicated to @wilderwestqueen, because she’s talented as hell, and you guys better check her out.
Can also be found on fanfiction.net
“It can’t be him. It can’t!”
Astrid Hofferson was standing in the centre of the room, shaking with rage and disbelief. Her muscles were tense, her fists were clenched.
For the first time in her life, she felt absolutely helpless.
“Astrid, you’re being unreasonable.” Hiccup approached her, doing his best to calm her down, trying to talk some sense into her. He had been doing that for the last ten minutes, and apparently, he was failing miserably.
“It’s not about reason, Hiccup!” she cried out, finally raising her sight at him. “It just doesn’t feel right! And it must feel right!”
“You know that’s not true -”
“He’s supposed to be my soulmate, for fuck’s sake, of course it must!”
Hiccup gritted his teeth as he listened to her hopeless calls, and wondered for the millionth time that day what on earth should he do in his position. How could he tell Astrid to calm down, while his own blood was boiling as if it was 200 degrees hot? Still, he knew he couldn’t agree with her, not in this case.
Not in this life.
“Astrid, please,” he tried again, taking her trembling hands into his own. She was surprised, no doubt, but she didn’t protest. “It doesn’t always feel right at first, but there are no mistakes. As long as you can recognize your soulmate, you may be sure it will work out in the end. Even if it’s hard at first, it always works out in the end. Think of your parents.”
“My parents hated each other,” she admitted with a weak smile, but then shook her head.
“That’s my point. They did once, and now they are one of the greatest couples I’ve ever seen in my life.”
“But this isn’t because they’re soulmates!” she shouted again, almost snatching her hands away, only Hiccup’s grip on them was too tight to allow it. “It was because they worked hard on it, bringing forgiveness and goodwill to their relationship, and because they learned to care about one another.”
“Exactly. And you’ll learn to do the same.”
Astrid looked him in the eyes, meeting his steady, certain gaze; he was still squeezing her fingers in that gentle manner she adored so much, trying to reassure her as well as he could.
Good Lord, how lucky his soulmate would be.
He didn’t look away, knowing it would do no good; instead, he smiled fondly at her, hoping it would make her feel at least a little bit better. Astrid was a mess, there was no point denying that – and that was why he had to stay calm and unmoved. He had to be her voice of reason.
Hiccup saw her blue eyes glittering with tears, which she was fighting back with all her might; she wasn’t crying yet, but who were they kidding – she would eventually. And he had to make sure to be there for her when she does.
He didn’t have to wait long. After a few additional seconds of biting her twitching lip, Astrid broke into the most painful sob he had ever seen, throwing herself against his chest before he had a chance to react; he freed their hands and embraced her, praying to God this outburst of emotions would do his dear friend some good, that it would be the catharsis she needed so desperately.
He felt her heartbeat against his own – fast, strong, to the extent it was almost improbable; then again, his was just as crazy as that. Her tears were wetting the collar of his shirt, but it made no difference. All that mattered was that Astrid craved comfort, and he was expected to give it to her.
She moved, and he felt her hot breath against his neck.
Hiccup’s heart was positively breaking. But it made no difference, either.
Neither of them could tell how long they had been standing like this, two lonely people in the middle of a great, empty library. The sun was setting down, and its red beams had been getting into the room long before they noticed, but they didn’t care. There was no one else in the Haddock house – and they had all time in the world for themselves.
“Feeling better?” Hiccup asked, eventually, acknowledging that his friend’s sobbing had almost ceased. She nodded, face still buried in his shoulder. He smiled softly. “You need a tissue?”
She nodded again, sniffing. Hiccup took one of his hands from her back and reached to the pocket of his jeans; his other one was still embracing her, keeping her close to his chest. Not that she was going anywhere.
“Here,” he said, forcing her to pull away a little, and handing her the tissue, holding it right in front of her eyes. “Do you want me to wipe your nose or you’ll do that yourself?”
“I’m not that overwhelmed, thank you very much,” she answered in a mock offended voice, taking the item in her fingers and using it, loudly. Hiccup laughed shortly, and she almost did the same. “That was rather undignified, I’m afraid,” she admitted.
“Not as much as your snuffling.”
“I hate your sarcasm.”
“It’s not sarcasm. I’m just mean.”
“Yeah, right.”
He took the tissue from her hand, ignoring her protests and sliding it into his back pocket. Astrid sighed, and rested her forehead on his shoulder again.
“Can I just stay like this for a little longer?”
“No problem. How long exactly?”
“Forever?”
“I think that will do.”
“Thanks, Hiccup,” she mumbled. “You’re the best.”
“Yeah, I know.”
They remained silent for a little longer – Hiccup gently rubbing her back, Astrid just leaning against him, breathing him in with every inhale she made.
“It’s going to be so hard,” she whispered finally.
“Nah, it’s not. Just have a little faith, and you’ll see it will be fine. There’s a happy ending waiting for you, Ast, it will just take you some time to figure out the way to it.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“This is how this world works. Besides, if your parents could have got along, then you and Eret will as well.”
“And what if he’s not the one?”
Hiccup froze for a moment, surprised with her question. Could she be serious?
“Hey, listen,” he said, taking her arms and pulling her away slightly. “You know he is.”
“I mean, he does have this mark, but -”
“Astrid, stop.” He let her out of the hug and took her hand, raising it to her eye level. There was a little, black mark on her wrist, with a symbol she could never mistake. “What do you see?”
“My stupid soulmate tattoo.”
“Does that look simple for you?”
“What do you mean?” she raised an eyebrow, not sure how to answer that.
“Does that look like a symbol you could confuse?”
“No.”
“Is it complex?”
“Yes.”
“And what was that mark you saw on Eret’s chest?”
She hesitated.
“What was it, Astrid?”
“It was the same stupid symbol,” she admitted at last, feeling defeated. “But mine looks like a tattoo! And he said his was a scar!”
“Well, it looks like one, to be sure. But it doesn’t change anything. It’s the symbol that matters.”
The fire inside her eyes was gone. Hiccup hated the sight, however, at least he could believe that Astrid was starting to accept her fate, which meant he had succeeded in his mission. It ached awfully, but he knew it was the right thing to do
“I’ve known Eret my entire life, Ast. He’s a great guy. Smart, strong and caring – and he would never hurt you.”
“I know that. It’s just so… disappointing!”
“Eret, son of Eret, is disappointing? Do you even know what you’re saying?” he chuckled, remembering all the girls following his older friend with dreamy eyes. “Ruffnut would rip you into pieces for even thinking so!”
“Oh, yeah, because he’s sooo muscular. How could you not like that? Gosh, he’s not even that handsome,” she retorted without hesitation, and added, “jokes aside. I’m not really disappointed in him. I’m disappointed in the situation. I mean, come on! That’s the moment every girl is waiting for! I should be all over the moon, dancing like an idiot. Or I should be confused and amazed. Or even mad - I mean, when my mum and dad met, she came home and broke some ancient vase, almost causing my granny to have a heart attack - and I don’t even feel like this. I feel… nothing.”
“Maybe you just need a little more  good will here,” he smiled at her again. “As you said, sometimes you need to work hard before you can see the results. But I promise you it will be worth it.”
She nodded; then she sniffed again, making Hiccup laugh.
“Okay, so here’s another tissue for you; hopefully you won’t need more than that. Besides, it’s not you who should be crying here, right? Your best friend isn’t leaving you all alone because of some brawny PE teacher.”
She punched him on the shoulder. Hard.
“Okay, fine, I’ll shut up. What do you say I’ll walk you home now? And as soon as you’re there, you’ll call Eret and tell him you didn’t mean to reject him, and that you only need some time to get used to the thought. I’m sure he’ll understand.”
Astrid shook her head.
“You can walk me home, but I won’t call him before tomorrow. I wouldn’t know what to say to him, and I don’t want to screw it up. After all, that may be the guy I’ll spend the rest of my life with.”

RTTE Season 5 Quick Thoughts
So, despite feeling nauseous and not getting any sleep the night before, I finally had to chance to watch the season. And, I really loved it. Though, like every other season, had its set of problems, there so many fun and great moments. My thoughts are under the cut.
Warning: major spoilers obviously
1. Hiccstrid: Unfortunately, I was right in that there was not going to be a lot of Hiccstrid moments. But, honestly, I’m not that mad about it because I feel like we got the right amount of Hiccstrid screen time without having it be front and center and taking over the show. Every moment they had together was perfect. The forehead kiss, Hiccup giving Astrid the betrothal necklace (which gets me in the feels no matter how many times I see it), their time alone on that island, and especially their little sparring session (which imo proves that they’re totally screwing :P) Also, they’re totally the parents of the group. And, they’re engaged! Praise the gods!
One little criticism that I had was that the betrothal wasn’t taken as dramatic and serious as I like. I would of loved to see Hiccup actually do a proper proposal, but that could just be because it’s something that I’ve wanted and imagined for a long time.
2. So Many Good Astrid Moments: Finally, they ditched damselstrid for a lot of Astrid character exploration and overall badassery. I mean, she fricken punches a poisonous snake-dragon in order to save Stormfly. What more could you ask for. Also, her scenes with Stormfly during “No Dragon Left Behind” and the death song (who name I forget) when it was believed that he would die had me in tears. (Though, at first I didn’t like how the death song survived, but was quickly made up for in “No Dragon Left Behind”).
3. The Twins: As usually, their scenes were hilarious. It was nice to see a lot more moments of them being smart. It just shows that’s they’re not just the stupid comic relief. Also, during the scene where Astrid is trying to find a betrothal gift, I burst out laughing when Tuffnut said “scarf flip.”
4. TuffnutxChicken: Also, hilarious as usually. I loved the episode “Searching for Oswald...and Chicken.” Not only is the name itself hilarious, but everything involving that plot was, too. Everything from Snoutlout’s narration to Chicken having a secret family. Couldn’t stop laughing. (The Hiccup and Dagur scenes were cool too)
5. Snoutlout: I adored his characterization this season. In a few moments, you can see him becoming a sort of stand in leader when Hiccup and Astrid are away. Also, I like his development in “Snoutlout’s Angels” (I don’t know whether to find this title funny or smack my forehead). It could be that I just like seeing him learning his lesson about not making disrespectful remarks and just being and overall douchebag to women. Also, I was wondering what he said to Astrid to make her that angry. I was thinking that it was something about her weight, but I feel that’s too stereotypical. (It also could be about her not so intimate relationship she has with Hiccup which I strongly now agree is pretty much canon :P).
6. Fishlegs: I love seeing both him as his usual adorable geeky self and as his pent up aggressive self. It makes his character be more than just the geek who doesn’t know how to fight. It’s why I liked seeing Thor Bonecrusher again. I also loved the added twist of having Thor Bonecrusher as an anit-hero just because of the conflict it made.
7. Krogan and Viggo: I really like Krogan as a villain. He has this sort of mafia boss mentality (or at least that what I thought of during his first scene which by the way was one of the more dark scenes I’ve seen in a kids’ show seriously holy shit ). I especially like him teaming up with Viggo because you get to see how they contrast one another and handle things differently. It’s one of the main reason why I love Viggo not being dead (which I know is an unpopular opinion).
8. Heather and Dagur: I loved their scenes that they had especially their scenes together. It was really great seeing Dagur being good while struggling with his beserky self. His scenes made me love him being a good guy which was something I was struggling with the past season. Also, him reading Oswald’s letter also had me in tears. As for Heather, I loved seeing the stubborn berserky side to her. The last episode especially imo really showed her being a more complex character than we’ve seen her in past seasons. I loved seeing how much she cared for Windshear. And anyone who says that she took over the show are just really biased as she was only prominent in the last episode.
 9. ThrokxRuffnutt: I’m honestly not sure how to feel about it. I don’t totally love it, but I also don’t totally hate it. I thought the scenes of him trying to win Ruffnut’s affection were funny. It really weird, but I kind of ship it.
10. The Wingmaidens: To be honest, not a huge fan. I don’t hate them, but I glad they just had one episode. I liked the whole story of them taking in baby Razorwhips. However, there were quite a few moments that I feel weren’t really answered or handled properly. For example, I was sure how exactly they whole society worked. Like, were they really going to cook Snoutlout or did they have a change of heart that wasn’t shown well. It might have been that I wasn’t paying enough attention, but I feel like this episode was written the poorest in the season. Though I did still like it overall.
11. Alvin Returns: While I was excited to have him back, his few scenes were way too short. I would of loved to see him interact with Hiccup because we haven’t seen them interact since the end of DOB. Seriously, that’s all we get! I want more Alvin!
12. Stoick (and Gobber): As with Alvin, I like seeing them, but there were not enough scenes. I was seriously hoping for them to react to Hiccstrid. I’m disappointed we didn’t get even one little comment from them. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I think that’s the one thing I disliked the most about the season.
13. The Real Baddie that is Trader Johann: Not going to lie, I absolutely loved this twist. While I can see people not like it because it like it was out of nowhere, but that’s precisely why I think it’s perfect. You would’ve have never expected it but, at the same time, it kind of makes sense. I’ve always loved when the weak, annoying character turns out to be the bad guy. I now love and hate him at the same time.
Overall, I really enjoyed this season. It seriously had some really fun and intense moment. This was the only season that has had me in tears multiple times (though I was balling when Hiccup and Astrid finally got together). Was it perfect? Absolutely not. But, as with the other seasons, there was a lot more good than bad. Can’t wait for the next season.

Dreamworks Dragons ~
This list is probably going to be super predictable lmao. That said, only the first two are in order. The rest are really hard to sort because, damn, I love so much of this cast.
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III --- Obviously, Hiccup is my fave, and has been my fave since his opening monologue. I mean, when you’ve got snark like:“This is Berk. It’s twelve degrees North of Hopeless, and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death.”in the very first line, you know I’m going to like you. I relate to Hiccup in a lot of ways, which I think was part of the point of his character. Dean DeBlois, the main man behind the movies, has said that Hiccup is supposed to be quite modern in his way of thinking, which is part of what causes the conflict in the first movie (since the Berkians are so entrenched in tradition and the 300 year war against dragons, whereas Hiccup is . . . not). But even so, even if that is the point, it doesn’t make it less true for me. Aside from relating to how snarky Hiccup is (even and especially when it’s not appropriate), I also really feel him on the cynical, melodramatic attitude he sometimes takes to things (“Oh, the gods hate me . . .”), as well as the complicated relationship he has with his father, Stoick. I really, really relate to him in the way that he was always willing to do or sacrifice anything for the sake of Toothless, because that’s precisely how I always was with Shiloh. I even relate to smaller things, like how he’s always so very done with the shenanigans of the other Berk Riders, even though he does adore them---or how he is, in all honesty, just not very great with children. (See: Gustav.) I also love his insistence on diplomacy, but his willingness to fight when the time comes. Hiccup, though he has his flaws as well, is great. I love him.
Toothless --- But of course we can’t forget Toothless! I love everything about Toothless. I love how he’s very definitively a dragon, even though the creators have said that they also pulled inspiration for him from dogs, cats, and bats as well; I love that he’s proud of who he is and what he can do, but how he also cherishes Hiccup, how he listens to and protects him and, even when Hiccup makes him a tail fin that he can operate on his own (in “Gift of the Night Fury”), he refuses to use it because he wants to fly with HIccup. Toothless is snarky and sassy in his own right, has a temper and can be petulant (“Oh, are you pouting, big baby boo?” ---Hiccup, HTTYD 2), but how he’s also so very, very intelligent and clever as well. Toothless is adorable and fierce all in one. He loves being petted and played with, but he will also face down any threat with a snarl if it means protecting Hiccup. Hell, he fucking mega evolved in the climax of the second movie to protect Hiccup! (I mean, they didn’t call it mega evolution, but let’s be honest, he basically went full Mega Toothless X. =P) Toothless is incredible. I adore him.
Heather --- Heather is very, very high up on the list for me because I think her character development has been excellent. While it has been a bit rushed at times because Heather is not a main character and therefore we couldn’t always see her (and while her subplot of a romance with Fishlegs was horribly done and terrible), I do think that she really had time to shine over the duration of the show and that the Heather we see at the end of season four of RTTE is not the same Heather we saw way back in RoB. Her experiences have very believably changed her; having to fend for herself after the Outcasts captured her adoptive parents, and then having to deal with having those adoptive parents murdered by her own brother . . . living alone for so long, developing abandonment and trust issues as a result of it . . . wrestling with her own temper, her thirst for vengeance and her desire for justice, along with what she knows to be right and her desire for a family . . . I think that Heather is a complex character and that her complexity was shown well. Could have been better, but I like what we got. I think that her story was one of the more compelling parts of the TV show and I think it’s a shame that she (and Dagur, for that matter) won’t ever be in the movies.
Tuffnut Thorston --- Tuffnut is an absolute delight. What I love most about Tuffnut is that although he very often comes across as a Cloud Cuckoolander (moreso than his sister Ruffnut, in all honesty), we very easily see that’s not all he is. Tuffnut (and Ruffnut, too!) is actually quite intelligent. It’s just that his brilliance is often showcased in ways that the other Riders don’t see or immediately recognize. He’s great at interior design. He’s great at coming up with Home Alone style traps to protect the Edge. Tuffnut thinks so far outside of the box that the box isn’t often very visible, but his method of thinking works and he’s hilarious to boot. Basically, I’m rarely going to dislike a scene that Tuffnut is stealing the spotlight in. He’s great. Definitely a fave.
Stoick “The Vast” Haddock --- I love Papa Wolf Stoick. He’s not a perfect father, but I think he’s a very believable father who---and yes, I’m including the first movie in this---very obviously loves his son very much. Stoick is usually torn in two directions; he has to be a chief for the people of Berk, but he also has to be a single father (mostly---Gobber helped raise that boy and I don’t know how to talk to you if you believe otherwise) for Hiccup, who is more than a handful despite only weighing 90 lbs as a teenager. It has been talked about on this website time and again, so I won’t get into it, but Stoick actually was not very much of a disciplinarian at all to Hiccup, and one of my favorite scenes in the TV show is when Hiccup is giving Stoick a very determined, yet pleading, face because he wants something, and Stoick is just like, “Oh no. Not that face.” You know Hiccup has purposefully pulled that shit time and again over the years to get what he wants. It hasn’t always worked---it took Gobber to get Stoick to let Hiccup into dragon training (only for Hiccup, for reasons we know but Stoick doesn’t, to be like, “actually I don’t want that anymore” and Stoick to be like “why gods” as any parent would), but damn if you don’t believe it hasn’t worked so much over the years. Hiccup wouldn’t try it if it didn’t. Above all, though, Stoick truly does love his son. He’s so protective over him. He gets goddamn scary and vengeful when Hiccup is threatened multiple times over the course of the show, and in the second movie actually sacrifices his life to shield Hiccup with his own body. He runs hell for leather across the battlefield to do just that. So many people unjustly like to demonize Stoick and call him abusive (he is far from it), but I love him. I live the Stoick Appreciation Life.
Astrid Hofferson --- Astrid would probably be higher up on the list if she was allowed to do more things outside of Hiccup. I do disagree with the notion I sometimes see tossed around in fandom that she’s nothing but Hiccup’s Love Interest™, because that isn’t true; we see that Astrid has her own interests, hobbies, and activities outside of him, and we also see her bond with other characters outside of him (especially Heather, but the TV show also gave us a couple episodes where she bonded / interacted with the twins outside of him (and had Ruffnut call her out on treating them poorly), and we also see her bond with Snotlout some). We see that she’s excellent at Dragon Racing, and to be honest she had more bonding time and interaction with Eret in the second movie than Hiccup did (for understandable reasons). However, I do think that Astrid does suffer from being Hiccup’s designated love interest at times---that she’s allowed to do things outside of him until whoever is writing the current thing suddenly remembers that she has to be there for Hiccup to save or be doted on by. We see this often in the TV show, wherein she is very often damseled and he is her hero while the reverse really isn’t true, and we also see this in the second movie, wherein the only reason why she was given any attention at all is because she is Hiccup’s fiancée. The rest of the Riders were basically background set pieces in the second movie, and the only reason why Astrid wasn’t is because she’s special because she’s Hiccup’s intended. It’s sad, but true. I love Astrid for a lot of her qualities---her ambition, determination, bravery (which is sometimes recklessness), her spunk and cheer and love for her home---but I also do wish that she wasn’t at times saddled by the burden of being the Love Interest.(With that said, though, I do think the show improved on her relationship with Hiccup. Dean DeBlois said that they were automatically a couple at the end of HTTYD 1, which makes very little sense with Astrid’s character, and in fact sacrifices her character---and any chance at actually developing a relationship between them---for the sake of giving Hiccup a trophy girlfriend. The TV show axes that and instead lets them be friends first, and then (human) best friends, and then lovers. I’ve seen so many people outright bitching about the TV show’s portrayal and saying that it “ruined everything the movies set up,” but the movies set up literal garbage* as far as this ship is concerned, so honestly, the TV show is an improvement. (*Their interactions in the second movie are natural and adorable . . . but make no sense following the nonsense in the first. Their interactions in the second movie make sense when you take in the relationship we saw them build in the TV show. Hence, again, the show was a saving grace. And by the way, these movies are still my favorite movies of all time, but I am allowed to criticize certain aspects, and the Hiccstrid relationship is one aspect I will rightfully criticize and feel was fixed in the show.)
Viggo Grimborn --- Can we bring him back? Well, no, because he’s dead, and at this point the show has had so many “lol jk” deaths that we need at least one of them to be real, and unfortunately it’s probably going to be his---which is a damn shame, because he’s the most compelling villain this entire series has had yet. Like, Drago got very annoying, very fast with his constant screaming. Viggo? He “speaks softly, but carries a big stick.” He is an absolute threat with the intelligence and army to back up his ambitions, but he’s softer spoken, clever, and keeps his cards close to his chest. He’s absolutely the perfect foil to Hiccup, and I loved seeing their games play out over the course of two seasons. In a way, he was like the Slade to Hiccup’s Robin. It was delightful. Shame his ending had to be such garbage; it was so rushed and out of character and terrible. RIP, Viggo. You will be missed.
Ruffnut Thorston --- Ruffnut is lower than her brother because, unfortunately, she hasn’t been given as much time to shine as him. However, I do love what we’ve seen of her, especially as the seasons have gone on. Whereas Tuffnut is full-on Cloud Cuckoolander, Ruffnut seems to mostly go along with that for funsies. Otherwise, she’s very clearly the more grounded of the two, and in many ways is her brother’s keeper with how protective she is over him (sometimes; other times she’ll happily push him off a cliff, but to be fair he’s always okay). She’s a stark badass who isn’t afraid to speak her mind or face down any threat, downright snarking in the face of men who want to kill her. She also knows what she wants and is unafraid to chase it, though she would do well to learn boundaries (because honestly, Ruff, when Eret says no, he means no). Ruffnut’s great. I hope that, since the show is continuing, she gets even more time to shine.
Eret, son of Eret --- I haven’t actually watched the second movie in ages, which is probably why Eret is so low on this list. If I rewatched it, my Eret love might ignite again. I do like him a lot, though, especially as we see him near the end of the movie, where he has bonded with dragons, is honored to take care of Skullcrusher, and holds that smol child in his arms during the final battle. I really need to rewatch the second movie, but yeah, I like Eret a lot.
Snotlout Jorgenson --- Snotlout, Snotlout, oi oi oi! I think that Snotlout, while he can at times be obnoxious and aggravating, has a lot of depth to him with regards to his insecurities, his difficulties with his father (even worse than Hiccup’s considering Spitelout actually is emotionally abusive to his son), and his difficulties with finding a place he’s comfortable with among the Riders. Hiccup and Snotlout have a very Michael and GOB (from Arrested Development) relationship where they do get along, and in some ways Snotlout would be comfortable with working under Hiccup, but Snotlout often feels pressured to be better than Hiccup and so these two conflicts drive him to do obnoxious things at times. But overall I think that his insecurities are relatable and he’s a great character. Also, while my relationship with Shiloh was very much Hiccup & Toothless, my relationship with Morgan is very Snotlout & Hookfang. It’s uncanny.
Honorable mentions go to: Gobber, Dagur, Gustav, and Trader Johann.

Now I’ve seen HTTYD 3, I wanted to offer some thoughts and feelings - not just about the third film but the series as a whole.
***Spoilers for the HTTYD series (obviously)!***
Why didn’t I watch these films sooner??? 😭 I feel like I missed out BIG until now
Hiccup was so adorable throughout but then between 1&2 he hit puberty HARD oh my god-
Hiccstrid?? So adorable omg
Astrid is a bae tbh, I’d let her throw an axe at my face and so would Hiccup
Toothless was TOO FUDGING CUTE OMG I WANNA CUDDLE HIM
No lie I’m strongly considering going to Build a Bear and getting a Toothless plush holy moly
His toothless smile is adorable I’m dead
How did it take 3 movies to have a joke about Hiccup’s name though XD
My heart was so full and now it’s ripped apart in the most emotional way
The animation in these movies is so good??? Holy hell??
Gobber is 100% confirmed gay and I love it - “that’s why I never got married. Well...that and one other reason.”
Baby Hiccup in the third movie 😭👏🏻
Eret Son of Eret aka Viking Jon Snow
Baby dragons 😍
That Light Fury was so beautiful I love her so much
Toothless trying to impress the Light Fury though 😂
I really loved that both Hiccup and Toothless had disabilities but it didn’t hinder how awesome they are. Like Hiccup loses a foot/leg and Toothless loses a tail fin which makes it difficult for him to fly, and they both were heros and amazing. I just thought that was really awesome, and a great message too because they can do everything any other person/Dragon can. (Also it matched them together so perfectly)
I love how dragons weren’t evil, just misunderstood, like yes let me adopt hundreds of those fire babies please
Toothless isn’t just an Alpha, he’s a KING
I love the small details in this franchise: Hiccup’s chin scar, his freckles, the hair, the scales on the dragons, the way the armor developed etc.
Also I love that Hiccup has little braids in his hair, that was awesome
The soundtracks?? Are?? So?? Good??
Hiccup and Astrid’s wedding 😭♥️
Literally any interaction between Hiccup and Astrid tbh, even when she looked like she was about to murder him
Hiccup’s mom is a literal badass and she’s voiced by Galadriel so she’s even cooler tbh
Hiccup’s flame sword is literal weapon goals
I watched the credits of the films and the cast list is literally amazing holy-
Hiccup is the Viking Chief we don’t deserve but need
Toothless playing with Hiccup’s prosthetic leg 😂
Astrid and Stormfly are an underrated duo, let’s be honest
Ruffnut annoying Grimmel to the point that he lets her go (though he does track her when she leaves but still) is me 😂
These films got a little bit darker as they went along to be honest, like Toothless killing Stoick whilst being mind controlled? And Hiccup totally ready to sacrifice himself so that the Light Fury can rescue Toothless and Grimmel can be defeated? I cried so hard
Hiccup and Astrid have a daughter and a son?! And they’re so adorable omg 😭 The little girl looks just like her daddy but with mommy’s eyes, and the little boy looks like his mommy but with his daddy’s eyes 😭👏🏻
Can we have a series about Hiccup and Astrid with their kids because I mean I would be all for that
Tumblr media
Also please send me ALL the married!hiccstrid and parents!hiccstrid fics, thanks
