Anyway @hellofromthehallowoods this episode was FANTASTIC and a huge win for fungal body horror fans :) (it's me. I'm the fan.)

Encounter location:  Museum of Broken Promises

Description:  One of the fungus folk: head made out of shelf mushrooms and other fungi.  Wears black spectacles.  Mx. Morell currently runs what they call the Museum of Broken Promises.  On account of it traveling on the back of a giant beetle, no fixed location (unless you’re lucky enough to find them playing at the Resting Place).  Think too much about the people you swore you wouldn’t leave behind and it has a funny way of showing up, though.

No violence in them, and an ever-expanding museum collection.  Mx. Morell informed me that when this world breaks down and decays into the stars, their museum will be preserved.  Cheerful thought.

Abilities:  Museum curating.  Good to have another person in the Hallowoods interested in preserving the world around us, even if it’s under glass (or in an almanac).

Beetle raising:  Never seen a baby or a beetle like that before.  Cute fella.  

Connections:  Rothogroth:  The Crown of Decay, aka their employer.  Seems like a big deal.

Baby:  Sharp pincers on them.  Wonder if they’ll get any bigger?

Barb:  Plays cards with the owner of The Resting Place.  Allegedly, no good at holding their liquor.  /end ID]

My summer of nothing but spooky podcasts continues, and I think there’s something really special about this one.

Can I just say, I love how Mx Morrel and the Museum of Broken Promises was done in episode 39.

I thought they were going to be presented as creepy vilians, who were going to try and forever keep Diggory trapped in the Museum because of a failed promise that Diggory could never truly keep...

And yet in true Hallowood style the story flipped my expectations, becoming this really poignant therapy-like session, Mx Morrel is shown as someone who understands and encourages what Diggory is going through, never once criticising Diggory for not feeling grief, saying people can process things differently and feel how they feel (true Neuro-divergent ally) talking about how children don't have to be born to fulfil their parent's desire, how it's a part of life to make mistakes and that it doesn't make you a bad person, how there will be good and bad days as people deal with grief but ultimately you deserve good days... i'm just so overwhelmed with this funky fungus caretaker and the other feels this series gives me man

also they babysit a half beetle baby in a Miyazaki-like broken promise museum and i think that's pretty cool

If you had to pick a single person who you would say is the main character of hfth, who would it be? And also who was the first character you came up with for your podcast? I love the show so much

It'd likely be Nikignik, who takes up 90% of the airtime. I believe Nolan and Ricou were some of the first characters to come into existence for HFTH, but Diggory, Mort, Jonah, the Instrumentalist and Lady Ethel all were early concepts around the same time.

However, there are a few characters, such as Hector, Mx. Morell, and Democracy, who found their way in from previous stories, so they'd technically predate the rest of the cast. If I ever write those other novels, I'll have to find suitable replacements to fill the roles they left behind.
