Baby on Board (e.b)

Summary: you find out your pregnant with Buck’s baby and have no idea how to tell him or how he will react.

AN: IM BAAAAACK (one time thing) you can thank 911 for that because we all know i have a soft spot for Evan Buckley

It felt like the world became one big blur. Everything around you seemingly fell out of focus as you stared down at the positive pregnancy test in your hand. A mixture of fear, nerves and excitement settled into your stomach.

In any other instant, you’d be ecstatic. If you were following your life plan correctly, you’d be married and have a steady job before getting pregnant.

But you weren’t following your life plan at all. You were in a steady relationship for a few years but you didn’t know if marriage was in the cards yet. You didn’t know how Buck felt about marriage. You definitely didn’t know how he was going to feel about a baby. How were you supposed to tell him?

You thought a baby would for sure ruin whatever plans Buck had. You were terrified of his reaction. You loved Buck more than anything and of course you wanted a family with him. But was it too soon?

In a wave of panic, you grabbed your purse and your keys and left the apartment. You had no idea where to go at first, all of your friends were Buck’s friends.

Eddie was always nice to you and you were closer to him than anyone else. You had hoped he wouldn’t be angry or upset that you were putting him in this situation but you needed advice.

The only reason you knew Eddie was home was because him and Buck were on alternating schedules. Eddie worked overnight and Buck worked during the day.

When Eddie opened the door, he was surprised to see you standing on his porch with tears in your eyes. “Y/N? Are you okay?” Eddie asked, grabbing hold of your hand entry and brought you inside.

“I need your help, actually. Well, more like advice.” You spoke. “What’s going on?” Eddie questioned. “I’m pregnant. Obviously it’s Buck’s but how am I supposed to tell him? We haven’t talked about kids yet, hell we haven’t even talked about marriage that much. I just, I don’t know what to do.” You explained, the tears falling.

Eddie took you in his arms and hugged you tightly, mainly just to calm you down. “First, take some breaths. You’re going to be okay. Second, I think Buck is going to be ecstatic.” He said. “But what if-“ you started before Eddie cut you off. “No buts. Sure it’s not the most conventional way to have a baby, but I hear how Buck talks about you. He talks about like you’re the center of the universe. Technically, you are, at least to him,” Eddie started.

“Buck loves you. There is nothing that would make him not love you. And he was born to be a dad and you’re going to give him that.” He finished. You sniffled and wiped the tears from your face.

“What if you’re wrong?” You whispered. “Hey, you came here for a reason. You know I’m not wrong.” He said. “How did Shannon tell you? If you don’t mind me asking.” You asked. “She knew I was enlisting. So she just said it, didn’t want to wait any longer. Especially if I didn’t make it home.” He answered.

You nodded your head slightly and let out a sigh of relief. “I’m scared.” You said. “You are one of the strongest people I know. You can do this.” Eddie said.

You thanked him again, very grateful you went to him other than someone else. Now all you had to do was wait.

Buck was due to be home any minute and you just finished making him his favorite breakfast; waffles, bacon, eggs sunny side up. He’d know something was up because the last time you made him that breakfast was when you told him you loved him for the first time.

“Honey, I’m home.” He teased, entering the home. “Hey, how was your shift?” You asked. “Good, just run of the mill stuff. What’s with the breakfast?” Buck asked.

You were quiet for a moment, that being enough for Buck to see something was up. “Hey, hey, what’s going on?” He asked, approaching you. “I need to tell you something. Something really important.” You said.

“Okay. You’re kind of freaking me out though.” Buck replied with a small laugh.

“I’m pregnant, Buck.” You finally said. At first, the room was quiet and you feared the worst.

The voice in the back of your head said he was going to run out the door and you’ll never see him again.

“You’re pregnant?” He questioned. “I’m sorry.” You said. “No, no, why are you sorry? Don’t be sorry, not for this.” Buck said. You looked up at him and saw the way his eyes lit up and the smile on his face. “You aren’t mad?” You questioned.

“Of course I’m not mad. I could never be mad at you.” Buck said, taking your hand. “I-I know this isn’t the best way for us to start a family but-“ You started. “It’s perfect. You’re perfect.” He interrupted, pulling you into an embrace.

Buck held you for a moment, feeling like everything was falling into place for him. For so long he felt like he was at a standstill. That there was no real progress happening in his life.

But now, he was going to be a dad.

“I love you so much, you know that?” He said sweetly to you. “I love you too.” You replied. Buck leaned in and kissed you sweetly before pulling you into his arms.

“Does anyone else know?” Buck asked. “I-I panicked when I found out and I didn’t know how you’d react so I went to Eddie. So only him.” You said.

Buck smiled widely at you, holding you close. “We’re having a baby.” He said. “Yeah, we’re having a baby.” You replied.

The rest of the night, all Buck could talk about was baby names, if it was going to be a boy or a girl, buying a house. Everything was all falling into place for the both of you.

BIO1108 - R. Sukuna

an: this is the final i am MOST worried about. if only i had king sukuna to help get my mind off it.

You let out an exhausted sigh.

You looked over your notes for what felt like the 100th time and you were still stumped. You reviewed all the powerpoints and even found youtube videos over the material but it just felt like you were quite grasping it

You were nervous that you'd fail your final and in turn, fail the class so you knew you had to keep going until you got it right.

Your vision got blurry as tears welled up in your eyes and you blinked hard trying to fight them back. You needed a break and decided it would be best to give yourself a few minutes to clear your mind.

You walked into the kitchen to grab some water and a snack. While there you saw your boyfriend, Sukuna.

“Hey how’s it going?” he asked while noticing the worried look on your face

“Horrible” you answered

“You need some help?” he asked, genuinely wanting to help

“ Can you explain the Shannon Diversity Index and tell me the difference between species diversity and genetic diversity by any chance?” you asked knowing he wouldn't know the answer but you were desperate

He gave you a blank stare. He so badly wanted to give you a joke as an answer but he knew you weren't in the mood. You let out a sigh as you realized you would probably never get the answer to your question nor would you even understand the concepts.

You opened the fridge but couldn't see the contents as you had started crying and the tears were blurring your sight. Sukuna noticed you crying and ran to pull you into a big hug

“Baby please don't cry. You're so smart and capable i know you'll figure it out” he said before placing a kiss on your forehead

“I'm not that smart Sukuna” you said between sobs, “i cant even explain the difference between xylem and phloem in plants and my final is tomorrow! I'm going to fail!”

At this point you were breaking down in his arms. You've never felt so defeated in your life and you were scared of what tomorrow would bring.

He rubbed your back and let you cry it out on his chest. He kissed your forehead and cupped your cheeks so you could look up at him

“y/n, you're the smartest girl i've ever met. You know way more than you think and I just know you’ll understand everything you need to know before your final tomorrow. I think you're stressed and I'm glad you're taking a break. Let's relax for a bit, okay?” he said to you with a concerned look in his eyes

You nodded your head and he smiled then placed a peck on your lips. You walked over to the kitchen island and sat up on the counter.

He brought over some water and you thanked him as you took the cup from his hands. He stood in between your legs as they dangled off the counter and wrapped his arms around your waist. He laid his head on your chest and you ran your fingers through his pink hair.

“Thank you. I really needed to hear you say all of that” you said to him

“Of course, thats what im here for” he responded

You both sat in silence for a second before you broke it

“You're right, i need to relax for a second and get my head straight before i dive back into it” you said with yet another sigh

“For sure, take as long as you need” he said

He lifted his head and looked you in the eye and flashed you his pearly white smile. You couldn't help but smile back.

He puckered up for a kiss and you leaned down to give him one. You only plated one kiss on his lips and he jokingly poked out his bottom lip in an exaggerated pout. You laughed at how silly he was and gave him another kiss.

He stood up and brought your empty cup to the sink. He began washing it out and you stared at him as he did so. You couldn't help but notice the way his muscles poked though his wife beater. You heart began racing and your mind went elsewhere.

He turned around and immediately recognized the look on your face. He walked over to where you were sitting again and positioned himself between your legs. instinctively , you wrapped them around his hips.

“You okay?” he asked with a devious smile

“Y-yeah, im fine” you said as you wrapped your arms around his neck

He leaned down and kissed you. As soon as his lips met yours, you eyes fluttered shut and he deepened the kiss.

He tried to pull back for a second, but you grabbed the back of his head and pulled him right back in. his lips crashed on yours then he slipped his tongue in your mouth. You sucked on it lightly knowing what it did you him.

He stepped closer to you and you felt his bulge through his sweats. You slowly began grinding on him. His hands went straight to your ass and he roughly squeezed.

Hey anon! Those are some strong feelings you've got there!

This is a tricky question to answer since a lot of the things that make me like Keefe's character make some people dislike his character, so you might be about to get a list of all the things you despise about him by asking me what I like about him. I like him because I think he's a good character, and way better written than people give him (or Shannon) credit for. I don't always love Wattpad Fanon Keefe (perfect boyfriend, super sweet, always says the right thing) because it erases so much of his character. I like canon Keefe. He's a raw character with a lot going on and a whole slew of well-developed character traits.

Before I jump into this post, however, I want to say one thing: I think a lot of people who dislike Keefe are mostly frustrated with Shannon's portrayal of his character flaws, and I don't think they give Shannon enough credit for the way she's intentionally written Sophie as an unreliable narrator. It's rather clear during different parts of the series that Sophie isn't the most reliable narrator, and Shannon also explicitly writes in the margins of her annotated KOTLC book that she used a certain scene as an example of when Keefe takes his jokes too far. Sophie forgives him without even an outright apology in that scene, but Shannon makes it clear in her annotations that she, the author, isn't writing it off. I don't own the annotated so I can't remember the exact quote, but it's my biggest case for why I think Shannon has intentionally written Keefe with these character flaws, as character flaws, and yes, Shannon sees them as character flaws and has said so, so for the purposes of this ask response here, let's assume Shannon Messenger is aware she's writing a flawed character, because I do think it's rather unfair to her how often the people of the fandom accuse her of brushing by Keefe's actions when in reality she's just writing Sophie Foster as true to her character as she can.

With that, let's jump into this little essay about Why Keefe Is An Awesome Character And I Love Him that I've writtten for you!

My AP English teacher always used to say, "characters are more human than humans." I believe the purpose of this quote was that well-written characters exemplify what makes us human—our love, our experiences, our regret, our strengths and flaws—in ways that connect strongly to the audience. Part of the reason so many people like Keefe's character, I believe, is because they are able to connect strongly to him. This is because he is written as "more human than humans," as my AP English teacher would say—even though technically, he's not a human, but an elf.

One major strong point of Keefe Sencen's character is that his strengths and weaknesses are often wrapped up in the same character traits. This is something that is true for many people. For example, my politeness in real life social situations makes me a lot of friends, but too often can turn to people-pleasing. A good character, in my opinion, should have both strengths and flaws stemming from all of their major character traits. Here are a few of Keefe's:

His humor

One major aspect of Keefe's character is his humor. Whether you personally find it funny or not (I think I found it a little funnier when I was eleven... I'm sorta growing out of some of it, though his wittier comments in the latest books are more my style, which might be a sign of both me and the character maturing) it's an enormous part of his character. As a major character trait, it presents both strengths and flaws.

Often, he brings levity to heavy situations that the other characters appreciate. One instance I remember is in Flashback. They were preparing for a confrontation, and I don't remember what it was that Keefe said, but Sophie narrates that she appreciated the moment of comedic relief, because it eased some of her anxiety. Keefe is able to take intense moments and settle them with quick-witted (or hilariously not funny) comments. This is likely a skill he adopted in order to handle the crushing pressure of being in his own home as a kid. (Fitz, contrastingly, adapted the skill of just holding lots and lots of weight, bending and bending and bending until he finally breaks. Not to make my Keefe essay about Fitz, of course, but I know someone is going to point out that Fitz also dealt with a lot of pressure at home, and wanted to point out that he developed somewhat unhealthy coping mechanisms as well, they're just different from Keefe's.)

However, sometimes his jokes are unwanted or go too far. Shannon comments on this specifically at the end of the first book, where Keefe makes a joke about how he helped save her when she almost died, and then sorta trailed of when he realized he was talking about her almost-death. Shannon commented in the margins that this was a moment of Keefe experiencing awareness that his joking has gone a little too far. She hasn't released annotated editions of any later books, but I'm confident that at least a few other scenes are examples of this as well. Sometimes I run across them during a read through and I'm like "huh, it's interesting to have a good idea as to what Shannon was thinking writing this." Sometimes, his constant making light of serious situations really isn't funny to anyone, and it keeps him from accepting the gravity of what they're doing, likely contributing to his reckless behavior.

2. His intuitive communication

Something to notice about Keefe is that even though he's often socially unaware, either in ways that indicate his childhood trauma or just his emotionally immaturity as a teenager, he's very good at knowing exactly what to say for his intended goal. That intended goal isn't always necessarily something he should want, mind you—we just talked about how his need to lighten the mood sometimes causes problems, and he knows enough about some of his friends (cough Fitz cough) to know exactly what words will hurt them the most in an argument as well.

This can be a strength for him, especially when he's comforting Sophie. Since he can feel her emotions instinctively, he often knows exactly what she needs to hear. He's actually incredibly sweet at times, especially in Legacy (I mean... there are other issues there, which I'll get into another time). For example, when he's telling her the reasons Bronte isn't the worst possible father for her to have. There's nothing inherently great about the specific way he comforted her, but it did ease some of Sophie's queasiness, because he knew what she needed to hear. Also, there are the scenes in Legacy where he's telling her that Sophie Foster is all she needs to be, or the scene in Everblaze where he reminds her that no matter who her parents are, she's still going to be exactly the same person she is, and they can't change her. Keefe is really good at knowing the right thing to say. (This might have stemmed from walking on eggshells his entire life aroud his parents!)

However, this also makes it really easy for Keefe to be manipulative, or lie, or say the completely wrong thing on purpose. The best example of the first two was when he somehow convinced everyone in just a few sentences that he totally wasn't going to go to Loamnore with them. Somehow, the guy famous for not doing what he's told convinced everyone he was going to do what he was told, and the thing is, it wasn't even unrealistic. He gave really good reasons that it made sense for him to stay back, and even made jokes about it, about how he and the others not going were "too cool for Loamnore." He had everyone convinced he really wasn't going to be reckless this time, when he totally knew his plan the whole time. The famous Unlocked healing center scene is a great example of the last one, because Keefe got upset with Fitz and knew exactly what to say to make him the most upset and embarassed in that situation. He only even took back the words when Sophie became upset as well. He and Fitz are in... not an awesome place in the latest books, and his POV reflects that.

3. His courage

Let's be honest. Is Keefe a runner? Yes. But when he runs, is he running from a fight? Nope. Never. One of the major instances of this guy running away actually put himself in a ton of danger. He doesn't run for cover, or safety. He runs usually out of fear of himself, his relationships, or that he isn't able to help in any other way. If we really look at his character, Keefe is incredibly brave. All of the KOTLC main cast is. They've got guts. But a lot of the others have a more guarded sort of courage, while Keefe's is... well. Not guarded.

Keefe doesn't think things through, and sometimes, there isn't time for that. Sometimes, immediate action is necessary, and Keefe is great with that. Quick, in-the-moment plans are his specialty. He's not afraid to stand up to people who want to hurt him (*cough* Dimitar scene *cough*).

But he's also extremely reckless (*cough* Dimitar scene *cough*). Because his courage is less guarded than his friends (such as Sophie's or Biana's) he may be more inclined to carry out his plans quickly, but he's also more likely to not think things through fully and end up putting his own life at risk, and sometimes even his friends' lives, even when he's trying to help.

4. His caution and fight or flight instinct

To everyone who ever said Keefe's character is flat and his strengths and flaws never develop or change, what version of KOTLC are you even reading?! Like I mentioned above, Keefe's recklessness is a huge part of his character since book one, but now I'm here about to talk about his caution/obsessive worrying/the famous running away, specifically the second time. This is a relatively new character trait for him. It develops slightly after Lodestar/the first half of Nightfall. Keefe truly did learn a lot from leaving for the Neverseen and lying to Sophie before going to Ravagog. We're given an extremely limited window into this process, since Sophie had other things going on and Keefe's short story focused a lot on his crush on her, but Keefe noticeably steps back and stops trying to turn things into a "Keefe show" (as Sophie puts it in Nightfall) and attempts to work more as a team, which is definitely character development again. However, where he really learned his lesson was Loamnore. He showed up, again going behind Sophie's back and coming up with a plan of his own, and it ended with Sophie tied up on the ground and him being forced to undergo a transformation that gave him powers he's terrified of. While his recklessness didn't entirely vanish after this (his response in the end was to run away to the literal Forbidden Cities) but is definitely flavored with siginificantly more caution and an attempt to be genuinely responsible.

In Unlocked, Keefe noticeably asks for people to be kept away from him, including Sophie, so that he can keep from accidentally controlling anybody. He also stops using his voice entirely. These are actually incredibly selfless things for him to do. He loves to be with his friends (particularly Sophie for reasons) and he loves to talk! And neither of those things are bad! But he isn't willing to put them in danger. In fact, he actually sort of overdoes it in Unlocked, even asking for Dex to make him an ability restrictor. (While he's well-intentioned here, I think Keefe brushes past the idea that making one of those again might be something of a traumatic experience for Dex.) In the end, he's so worried about it that he runs away, but he does it with considerably more of a plan than he did when he joined the Neverseen. He knew he'd know the languages, he arranged a way to get his hands on human currency, and while Unraveled isn't out yet, the state in which they found Keefe along with some of the things Keefe described about his experience make it clear that Keefe purposefully learned a lot about human cultures and successfully blended in and made his life work.

His newfound carefulness paired with his classic instinct to run really encapsulate a lot of his character strengths and flaws. In the later books, it's actually a sign that he's developing as a character and moving away from some of his past character flaws, but like all well-written major character traits, it comes with its own drawbacks.

Another important aspect of Keefe's character is the way he is noticeably shaped by his own experiences. I mentioned the whole "being more human than human" thing earlier, and while yes, he's still not human, I think this is part of what makes so many people connect to his character. He's realistic. He has even more strengths and flaws than the ones I've mentioned above, and all of them obviously come from somewhere specific in his past.

Why is he so chronically unserious? Because he couldn't be serious enough for his family. Before he met Fitz and started spending time with the Vackers, he didn't even really have friends. He had a suffocated home and impossible expectations, and when he tried to live up to them, he just wasn't good enough. So he adapted to break the tension. He adapted to just... not try ("those who don't try never look foolish" -Fiyero in "Dancing Through Life," from Wicked. I think Fiyero is... very Keefe coded) and started skipping classes, breaking the rules, playing pranks and doing anything to cut through the tension. He dealt with pressure by tossing it off his shoulders and just deciding to not deal with it. Obviously, deciding to Just Not Deal With Things eventually began to hurt him, and he slowly and painfully begins to learn to have difficult conversations (but hey, at least he's getting there? I think Neverseen is where his development in that particular area becomes apparent, with the way he opens up more and even admits where he's really beginning to feel guilty).

Why is he such a master of knowing what to say? Because he grew up walking on eggshells around his parents. And when he decided to stop caring about his parents, he weaseled his way out of trouble whenever possible, and learned to use other people's emotions to learn things from them and get his way. "But Katie," you say, "reading other people's emotions without permission and using them to get his way is a very not good thing to do!" You're very correct! And it's an enormous indication of how skewed his view of normal is. What's the one Empath he grew up observing? His father. Look, he knows his parents suck, but because his parents suck, he has no way of knowing what is and isn't normal. Is his father doing this particular thing because he's a horrible person or because that's a normal thing to do? How on Earth is Keefe supposed to know?! Well, there are rules about telepathy, and there aren't any rules about empathy, so the external indications seem to tell him that this particular thing is normal. This is yet another example of Keefe's life experiences having a huge impact on his character.

Why is he so reckless? Because he doesn't care. Even his his most noble moments of bravery stem from the same place of not caring what happens to his life. It's the same reason his deep care for his friends' lives turns to quickly into self-sacrificial tendencies (which show themselves in canon on numerous occasions and usually don't even help). He has this "better me than any of them" mindset that's deeply rooted in his childhood trauma. Even though he's fought tooth and nail against everything his parents have ever said about him, he still has this ingrained sense of worthlessness. The way he says he "doesn't care about permanent damage" and tells Sophie that he's going to make sure he's always the one who ends up wrapped up in bandages and also has that moment in Unlocked where he wants to retreat into the darkness and never wake up? Look, we all know he needs therapy, but maybe reread that last sentence. ...Keep reading it until you get it.

And finally, what makes him finally learn to be cautious? Because he sees firsthand how his reckless plans are impacting the lives of other people around him, and if there's any negative trait that Keefe is NOT, it's selfish. Keefe may be occasionally selfish—you know, case by case basis, like most people—but it isn't a character trait of his by any means. He struggles significantly more with not caring about himself than he struggles with not caring about others. So when he realizes it isn't only his own life he's putting on the line, and sees the way it's hurting his friends, he takes an enormous step back, and even runs away for a time. Now, it would be great if he would start caring about himself too, because this poor guy needs therapy and his level of self-deprecation at this point is way out of control. But it is the case that he cares about his friends a lot (if someone quotes this part and brings up Fitz, I'm going to point out that their friendship has fallen way out due to actions and reactions on both sides of that relationship) and ultimately it ends up adjusting the balance in his character traits and their related strengths and flaws.

In short, Keefe is a lot of things. He's good things, he's bad things, he's consistent things. He reads like a real person—someone who frequently makes the same style of mistakes but does learn and grow over the course of his life. Every character trait of him stems from some aspect of his past. Shannon didn't write him with a slew of random personality traits—each and every one of them ties down to who he is and how he's shaped by his experiences. He can be a truly amazing friend. He can be a really horrible friend. He can be sweet and amazing and say the perfect thing. He can say the wrong-est possible thing with the intention of cutting the other person deep. He's a slow learner, but he learns nonetheless. His character development isn't a smooth arc in which he has trait A, event B happens and at the end he has trait C. That's common in storytelling, but not real life. Keefe learns, grows, then makes the same mistake again, then learns stronger. His character development sees both growth and setbacks, and the changes are subtle. He's still the same person even when he changes.

He's good things, he's bad things, he's consistent things, and I think it is out of an awareness of our own humanity that so many people relate to him and therefore enjoy his character.

It’s not for very long. Buck said the appointment shouldn’t take more than an hour, plus driving. No biggie. Eddie can handle that. He’s an adult.

He tells himself the fear is that when he’s alone, something will happen. He’ll cover his house in more leaves and turn more and more into an animal until he loses his human mind. His back will become completely hollow like in all his nightmares. He thinks his fears are rooted in pragmatism. But when Buck is actually gone, the truth of it becomes clear.

It’s painful.

Buck being gone is actually physically painful for Eddie. He doesn’t know why. He gets this ache all over his body. This gripping sense of panic and nausea combined. He can hardly function. He needs Buck to be back. He needs to not be alone. His brain sort of abandons reason and starts spiraling to some dark place where he’s forever shut out from any sort of human interaction forever. Where he is utterly isolated.

He doesn’t just think of Buck. He thinks of Christopher, hating him. His team at work, thinking he abandoned them. Adriana, missing without a trace. Shannon, dead. He starts to shake. It feels like some sort of withdrawal; or at least what he imagines that would feel like. He needs some sort of company. Anyone. Anything. Most of all, he needs Buck to come home.

There’s a knock on the door around the time Eddie is expecting Buck to get back. If Eddie was in his right mind, he would know it’s not Buck. He would know the door is unlocked, and Buck can walk in. He would know that Buck has keys, regardless.

Throwing aside any sort of precaution or rational thought, Eddie hurries to open the door. He doesn’t have much in the way of a disguise to conceal himself. He’s still wearing Buck’s sweatpants. Nothing for his face. He doesn’t even think about it. What he must look like to someone who isn’t expecting to see it.

He’s surprised to see that it’s Tommy at the door. Arms crossed, angry impatient look on his face. Tommy, Buck’s boyfriend. He’s probably here for Buck. But he’s Eddie’s friend, too. Maybe he can keep Eddie company until Buck gets back.

Not single thought of his own protection in his head, Eddie throws open the door.

“Hey, Tommy,” he says. “What’s up, man?”

Tommy looks furious and confused. He looks Eddie over, eyes scrunching with confusion.

“Where’s Evan?” He demands. He blinks a few times. Rubs one of his ears. “I know he’s with you and… And I…”

“Buck isn’t here right now. Should be soon. Do you want to come inside?”

“Do I…” Tommy’s eyes sort of glaze over. It’s like watching drugs settle in. The anger all but evaporates from his face. “Yeah, Eddie. Of course I want to come in.”

Eddie is pleased. That’s good. He didn’t want to be alone anymore. He can already feel the pain in his body beginning to subside.

“Come on, man. I’ll get you a beer,” Eddie says. No matter that it’s eleven in the morning.

“I’d love that,” Tommy says.

He leads Tommy inside towards the kitchen. He grabs two beers from the fridge. He doesn’t think about the tail creating a strange bulge in the back of his pants. He doesn’t think of the fact that he’s wearing Tommy’s boyfriend’s pants. He doesn’t think of anything and Tommy’s not reacting to anything. It all must be fine.

When he turns around to hand Tommy the beer, Tommy takes a step towards him, leaving very little room between him and the fridge. Eddie feels a bit cornered.

“Uh, hi?” Eddie asks. He tries to give Tommy the beer but Tommy doesn’t take it. Won’t even look at it.

“Eddie, I think we should talk,” Tommy says.

Eddie gets a bad feeling.

“Okay… Uh, sure. About what?”

“Us,” Tommy says.

Eddie coughs a little. “Us?”

“You and me,” Tommy says.

“What you and me?” Eddie asks.

Tommy smirks a little. “What we could be to each other.”

Eddie blinks. “Uh… Friends? Friends with someone very important in common?”

Eddie might be feeling a little out of it lately, but he’s not insane.

“Oh, come on, Eddie,” Tommy says. “You had to know there was something between us. If you hadn’t been seeing that woman. What was her name?”

“Marisol?” He asks. Or Kim? Both? Jesus, he’s a mess.

He knows that it changes you. In lots of strange ways, some small and some large.

“I’d had an accident not too long before that,” Chimney says. “Nearly died, myself. But… I don’t know. It’s different for Buck. Especially about Bobby. I think he’s just jealous you’re the new, shiny person on the team.”

Eddie is hardly new and shiny. Buck just doesn’t know that.

Eddie nods. “I’ll… Well, I’ll try I guess. To get on his good side or whatever.”

“I don’t think he has a bad side,” Hen says. “Just be patient. He’ll come around.”

Eddie holds onto this promise. Hopes that it’s true. And really, really hopes his suspicions aren’t correct.

Things get worse.

There’s some downtime in the shift. Eddie decides to hit the station gym. Unfortunately, Buck is already there with Chimney. He considers turning around and walking away, not wanting to deal with the guy more than he needs to. But he doesn’t want to give him the satisfaction. He doesn’t want to be scared off in his own workplace. Not again.

So Eddie starts on the other side of the equipment from Buck. The punching bag. He gets a conversation started up with Chimney. They talk about the firefighter calendar, which Chimney wants a spot in. Something Buck doesn’t seem thrilled about. It’s clear Buck wants to win, from all the absurd selfies he’s been snapping.

“Are you gonna submit photos, Eddie?” Chim asks. “Be honest, you’ve probably got washboard abs under that shirt. You submit one of those classic shirtless suspenders photos and you’re a shoe in.”

Ha. No. Abs? Sure. A shirtless photo? No way.

Across the gym, Buck makes a frustrated noise. Mutters something under his breath. Eddie doesn’t hear it, but he gets the tone. And all he can hear is the sound of someone suggesting he isn’t man enough for the competition. Whether or not it’s what Buck says, it’s what Eddie takes in.

So he sort of snaps.

“What’s your problem, man?” He demands, marching over to Buck at the weights.

Buck looks up at him. He seems surprised to have been confronted. Surprised, but not unwilling to rise to the bait. He stands up, gets close to Eddie, peacocking his considerable height. He’s not that much taller than Eddie, but it sure feels like it, in this moment.

“Okay. You.” Buck says, voice low and tight. “You’re my problem. Your comfort level.”

Eddie’s comfort level? Is he serious? He’s been doing everything he can to make Eddie uncomfortable. Is Eddie, what? Supposed to know his place? Stay silent and in the background because he’s different? How does Buck even know that he’s different?

“You’re-you’re not supposed to walk in here like you’ve been here for years,” Buck keeps going. “It’s meant to be a getting-to-know-you period. You’re meant to respect your elders.”

“You’re not his elder, Buck,” Chimney interjects.

“I don’t know how old you are,” Eddie replies. “But I’m not a probie. I’ve been a firefighter-paramedic for six years. But if you have some sort of prejudice that makes you think I’m not fit for the job-”

“Wait, what?” Buck interrupts. “Prejudice?”

this is probably very unoriginal and i really dont like it

Basically it's where the toons are like-not the toons...? They're seperate people from the toons and they have like backstories and lives and everything, so the toons in this WILL have different names. Because they aren't the toons. They're actors. Acting as the toons. If that makes sense. The first letter will be the same to keep it simple and make it easier to remember. They don’t live at gardenview and the majority of them are actually still in college. This AU focuses on like acting industry stuff and getting exploited and like toxic workplaces and other stuff about shitty 90s acting life and HOMOPHOBIA!!!

WHAT ARE TOONS?

Toons, in this AU, are a separate species from humans. As a result of toons being so similar to humans, and having a similar intelligence, there is a sort of “speciesism” against them, for looking like objects, being small, etc. etc. However, they still are different creatures from humans. Toons require “ichor” as a human body would use blood, to survive, and the body uses it up instead of recycling it. As a result, toons often have “machines” in their houses or workplaces that help them extract ichor to keep them alive.

(V) Valentin Viljoen Headcanons! (MC X V)

HI HI HEY!!! Shannon here!! During my dreadful midterms, I found myself thinking and writing down some V headcanons that suited him and saved until I had the time to share them. Ofcourse these arent official and mostly my personal interpretation of him but I think they'd suit him! Im starved of V content but Ill feed the fans nonetheless <3 Sorry If this is really messy I never did posts like this before but enjoy nonetheless !

So do you guys know those types of people who look like they're not listening to you whenever youre rambling on about something but to your surprise are actually VERY ATTENTIVE AND EVEN ADD ON??? Like imagine you're going on about something while V is taking care of his animals and you think he's not listening but to your surprise he actually replies? He'd help you find correct words and phrases if you pause :( /pos

At night after a long day he's SO TIRED HE JUST GOES ON AUTOPILOT and stays silent. He wouldn't mind if you kept him company or talk to him but he would only respond via nodding and hums as he leans into you until you fall asleep. Hes never gonna fall asleep first whenever youre talk to him even if he's so tired nuh uh.

I feel like his main love languages would be Words of Affirmation and Acts of services BUT he can initiate physical touch once you're a couple of months into the relationship. Its not gonna be extreme or on the daily but simple gestures like holding your hand and wrapping your arm around his.

Do... you guys think he'd bury his face into your chest or the crook of your neck when he's tired or you both are just laying down together?? EHSBJHFEJGF Not all the time but on special occasions

Hes probably naturally very warm. Hed make a great human heating pad /hj. During winter or cold nights, he'd let you nuzzle into him or wrap yourself around his torso for warmth and pull you in closer if he feels you shivering.

Hes not the type to get mad at people he cares about or just people in general. Hes likely to only get mad at people he deems disgusting or just in general rude or unpleasant. To you, he's very gentle and caring and wont get mad at you no matter what you did. You dropped a plate? He'll make sure you didn't get a cut on your skin and help you clean up. Accidentally let his snakes out? No worries, he'll catch it and put it back in its cage and tell you to be more careful. :3

If you entrust him to keep your belongings safe with him or just forgot your stuff at his place, he'll protect it at all costs. Even if its something small like a notebook or your clothes. He'll take great care of them nonetheless. Same goes for plants and pets, you can trust him to petsit your animals (if you have any) if you're outside. He'll feed them accordingly and make sure they don't run off. If you have plants at your place, he'll ask if you've watered them and will water them for you if you forgot!

He'd let you play with his hair. He'd enjoy it aswell. The sensation of your fingertips as you twirl his hair around your fingers and maybe even try braiding his hair for him <3 He'd love the way you look so focused when doing his hair he cant help but smile...

If you're feeling tired or drowsy, he'd pull you to the couch or bed and let you nap on him for as long as you need. He might even read you a few poems or hum a lullaby so you can relax. Maybe even gently massaging your scalp or any small warm gestures. HE CARES SO MUCH YOU GUYS BFDBJEW

Personal hairdresser O-O? He'd offer to do your hair if its bothering you or you don't feel motivated to take care of it. You want to cut it off? He already has scissors in his hand and asking how short you want it to be. Want to rim your hair? Its already done for ya! He'd let you borrow his shampoo and conditioner too if yours ran out FNJEBGJHEWG

He can read your emotions REALLY well. Its just in his nature, he can read people like an open book. Even through text?! Hes familiar with your texting patterns and how you respond. So if you're having a bad day and it shows in the change of your replies, he'll know and be on full alert. Even if its a slight difference.

I feel like after he met you, he'd name his animals how you call them. If you nicknamed them or suggested a name, he'd stick with it. HE WOULDNT TELL YOU TOO IT WOULD JUST SLIP OUT. You would be on call and you would ask about his animals. "Hows your cat doing?" "Felina? Shes doing alr-" "YOU- you named her..??" "You call her that, no? I thought it might suit her."

When he's tired and eepy... he'd lazily caress your arm or face... Its so precious of him.. His eyelids droop over and his face softens as his fingertips graze over your sides or arms... (On my notebook where I wrote this down, I scribbled mid writing because of how cute it was I couldn't help myself.)

During winter if you feel like you didn't wear enough layers of clothing or just get cold easily, he wont hesitate to take off his coat and drape it over your shoulders for your warmth. If you lost a glove, he'd warm your hand with his, rubbing over the numb skin gently and blowing on it to keep it warm.

WAAA OKAY WOW THIS WAS SO FUN TO WRITE?? again this is my personal interpretations on how I would they V would act so SO SORRY IF ITS OUT OF CHARACTER FJDBGJEWG I never thought Id be so in love with a character id write headcanons on them. An in universe WW2 Teddie Story for you, beloved 🫶

“Hey, beautiful.” Tommy slips his arms around Cora’s waist, mindful of her growing middle. “I was thinking, you haven’t been feeling great. Maybe we could reschedule? I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.”

“Absolutely not! Mary will be here any minute for the kids and it’s been ages since we saw Eddie or Shannon.”

Maybe for you. It’s been just over a week since he saw Eddie, not that he would ever tell her that.

“If you’re sure. I just don’t want you to overdo it.”

While Tommy legitimately cares for his wife’s well being, he wishes that was the only thing weighing on his mind.

“Don’t be ridiculous.” Cora applies a layer of bright red lipstick, checking her reflection. “I need to get out and this is the perfect excuse.”

She glances down at her belly, beaming before she meets his gaze in the mirror. He offers a smile in return even if all he wants to do is throw up.

He’s had more than enough opportunities to tell Eddie the news. To prepare him for what’s coming and let him know that Cora’s pregnant with their third baby. The problem is that he and Eddie rarely get much talking done when they’re together. Both of them are far too eager, making up for lost time. And when the haze of satisfaction settles, replaced by the cruel reminder that their love only exists in secret - the only place it will ever exist - neither of them feels like engaging in conversation. Least of all about their wives.

Im sure someone has talked about this but I’m watching season 6 for the first time and it’s genuinely insane how despite Fox not having this intention at ALL they almost perfectly set up a storyline for Bi Buck and his unpacking of the missing piece in his life being his queerness AND for Eddie to dismantle his Catholic Guilt and realize HE is queer as well!!

With Buck, he is searching for this missing piece in him, something more in his life but especially relationship wise. He feels like in his past relationships he was searching for something with them but none of them fulfilled that, despite the fact that he thought they would. This is just completely exasperated by his death and the coma dream, making him realize the things he thought were missing in his life with his parents wouldn’t truly fix anything they are just a fantasy. His realization throughout the season that the missing piece can’t be fixed with a girl he meets on a call or by fixing his dysfunctional relationship with his parents is such a perfect set up for him to look deeper at himself and not the factors around him leading to Bi Buck realizations (which IS canon). Of course by the end of the season he thinks he found the answer with Natalia, and I of course have no clue what Fox was planning to do with that storyline and how to further it but it seems like such a rushed relationship like a “we must fix his issues with a new straight relationship that’s no different than the ones he’s been reflecting on” bc they (the network) think that’s the only way. Interestingly with Eddie, he has a similar feeling of a void in his life but that idea is prompted by his grandma/ reflecting on Shannon’s death! His Grandma wants him to date again and keeps setting him up and although Eddie is against it at first it makes him realize he does want to date. This of course helps him start to unpack the idea that his only truly serious relationship was with Shannon and that he never even made the first move he was sort of passive in their relationship, the way he even explains his proposal is that she just got pregnant and he was like “hey we should get married” like if that was the only option. He’s desperately looking for someone to date, he starts doing activities like golfing hoping he’ll find someone without his grandmas help (as he claims he can do). He’s WILDLY unsuccessful with this of course which helps him even further unpack his idea on relationships with Bobby. This whole idea HARDCORE alludes to this repressed queerness and just going with the flow bc that’s what your expected to do. Again such an amazing start to this unpacking of queer repression and catholic guilt amazingly set up, especially so with his comment earlier in the season where he says dating feels like performing. Of course similarly to what they do with Buck they just throw him in another relationship, which feels like a strange throw at the audience sort of trying to “no homo” their way out of the subtext they’ve created.

For both Buck and Eddie we see them have a relationship in the last two eps of the season WHICH IS CRAZY WHEN THEIR SEASON ARCS REVOLVE AROUND REFLECTING ON THEIR PAST RELATIONSHIP AND BEING MORE MINDFUL GOING INTO NEW ONES WHICH NEITHER OF THEM DO BY THE END OF THE SEASON!!

This season is wild for doing this with zero future plans to make either character queer, but it’s even crazier that the new network does exactly what is set up by season 6 with almost zero change besides making a Buck single.
