Emergency alerts don’t need to be scary, they need to be easy to notice. I’m not afraid of Hesa Fredrik (VMA) but as a child I thought it was loud (now I do not hear it unless I’m pretty close to an audio transmitter) and it being loud is good but me not being scared of it isn’t bad

This evening, July 8th 2017, around 22:00, our civil defense siren went off on accident.

Man, I was watching a slow documentary on OJ Simpson and almost pissed myself at the sound.

Called my dad in panic when the long “all-clear”-signal didn’t come.

I HAVE A FINAL TEST TOMORROW.

DID NOT NEED THIS RIGHT NOW.

I’ve calmed down now since I’ve seen the explanation strip. 😁

‼️While on the subject of OJ Simpson, I strongly recommend everyone watch one of OJ’s few films; Capricorn One (1977).

The emergency siren tests apparently ran monthly not quarterly while Mr. C was growing up, what with the Cold War and all. Meanwhile, I'm here wondering wtf is going on with the horn(s) out there.

Don't come from a part of the US where weather-related warning sirens are even a thing, so yeah. I may eventually get used to the tests, but evidently not yet.

When we were still in Temporary Apartment, there was actually one local alert, with siren signals and emergency alert SMS messages and everything. A fire at some docks on that side of town which was evidently putting out a lot of smoke. We couldn't even see that from where we were, but yeah that was a bit of a shock. I don't think I'd even been here long enough to do experience any quarterly tests yet.

This is the booklet, in fear of breaking my damn back I’ve stopped sifting through our paper trash to find the last one but it was issued after the i cation because we had a right laugh that they had to change “when the war comes” to “when the crisis comes” because of covid which was, in fact, worse than anything else they’ve warned for

The first page tells us this: “to Swedish inhabitants. We live in uncertain times. War is happening around us. Terrorism, cyber attacks, and misinformation is used to hurt us and affect us” and the rest is capten america patriotism do your part stuff

Personally I think this is a great laugh considering that our state media has had issues the past year and two months where they’ve had to do internal investigations of biased reporting on Gaza not to mention our politicians straight up lying to us (special mention to the Amsterdam riots)

The next relevant page looks like this

Like this is all giving “await your draft papers” or that one local 58 video

I cannot overstate how much this has been normal for the past how many years, from the start I’ve wondered why in hell Russia would ever attack us, were like bone marrow of resources and were not even connected by land with them like Finland who Does have a right to be worried. And at the start was when Russia had men and weapons to spare

Anyways on page 9 it tells me that if you’re between 16 and 70 you can be drafted to either the military or the civil draft

Then on the next pages it tells you how to hide from air raids and then to become a doomsday preper as if people don’t hoard resources already and as if the supermarkets aren’t capitalising on that, gonna have to grocery shop at Lidl now cuz they don’t price gouge

The most useful pages are at the faaaaaaar back, about extreme weather and disease… or well I’d say that but it’s really just “look at the weather app and don’t grill during a fire ban” rather than actual advice for freak weather conditions like what to do in a storm or during flooding or “go to a website, hope you have a computer and internet” so really I lied it wasn’t useful at all, they just want us scared of and prepared for a war that I’m still betting money won’t come to us

This isn’t the first time in three years we’ve gotten the if the crisis comes pamphlet

We got one I believe shortly after our shitfuck government pushed us into nato without elections and one last year

Our blue government is sucking so much us dick it’s actually surprising we don’t get them with the local paper
