I’ve already said it, I’ll say it again, Mal du Pays is such a visceral and clever word to describe Siffrin’s Sadness. When I first saw it in game it genuinely made me pause like. Yes, it translates to homesickness. But it has the literal word for country in it. “Country sickness”. For a guy whose core problem is that his childhood, his culture, his country is missing. One could argue it’s a twisted pun. I’m obsessed with it.

This is so shanks coded to me. Like he just keeps losing people and he never learns how to deal with it. So much so that he becomes the abandoning parent. He literally knows nothing else all he has as a frame of reference is all the adult figures in his life leaving him and telling him it is for the best. So why exactly wouldn’t he believe that the best way to love someone is by letting go?

He does it to Luffy, he does it to Uta and in some ways he does it to Buggy and Mihawk too. Because he never just asks them to stay. He lets Buggy run out of his life even though it was pretty obvious that Buggy wanted Shanks to fight for this to take a stand a real one on a conviction for once and he…doesn’t, he just lets buggy leave.

And then he hitches his wagon to the most flighty (dude is literally a bird motif 😭) mother fucker he can find. he lets Mihawk wander in and out of his life as he pleases regardless of what is best for either of them. Because maybe Mihawk has nothing better to do 👀. Maybe he would say yes now if Shanks asks. but Shanks would rather die than ask, would cut off his other arm before he even attempted to “clip Mihawk’s wings”

And that’s like the truth of it. Shanks has been abandoned by every person that has ever loved him besides his crew and he knows they will never leave him. But Maybe he just wants someone to stay not because they call him captain.

#shanks is the quintessential abandoned child syndrome #that grows into the leave them before they can leave you adult #except he does it in a nice way and because he does genuinely think he is helping them make the best decisions for their lives #which as shown with uta and Luffy is a pretty big hit or a disastrous miss #you can pry shanks and his abandonment issues out of my cold dead hands #honestly this is kind of #shuggy #because I do think Buggy wanted shanks to put up more of a fight to keep them together #the same way he wanted him to go after the one piece #buggy and shanks arrested development at 15 #mishanks #shanks and his abandonment issues entering a bar and choosing to attach himself to the one person most likely to just up and leave at dawn #is so funny to me #because truly that is such a daddy issues move 😭#but honestly maybe I do think Mihawk would have agreeded (petulantly maybe) if Shanks had just asked #Hell he’s in cross guild and all crocodile had to do was make a phone call #but they also have the divorce that Mihawk’s not completely over which complicates things #god I need to see the interact in canon 😭#shanks unable to form a stable relationship with someone he didn’t adopt into his crew challenge impossible #buggy the clown #shanks #red haired pirates #red haired shanks #red hair shanks #akagami no shanks #mihawk and shanks #buggy x shanks #uta one piece #monkey d. luffy #one piece

I got admitted into a hospital since tuesday and just got released yesterday (laugh track)#anyways about the show. theodore tugboat am I right #like I've said before it doesn't hit me as hard as thomas or TUGS #like it's not as character heavy as ttte #or as worldbuilding heavy as TUGS #but it's like.... a really fun relaxing show. super good even #I'd usually roll my eyes at overly nice protagonists but theodore is an exception. he is my friend. my pal #maybe it's just my affinity for shows with talking vehicles but erm.... robert cardonna you've done it again #the show doesn't have big explosions or bombastic events unfolding #the episodes have this very quiet and soft narration by danny doherty. no loud sounds or weird wacky silly sound effects in a bwba fashion #also everyone is nice to each other in this show which surprised me lol #because I've grown accustomed to the british-style verbal battles between sudrian engines #and the typical blink-and-you-miss-it dark comedy quips from top hat and zorran #theodore tugboat: what a peaceful day at halifax :) we talked about our problems properly and learned more about the world #TUGS: what a peaceful day at vaguely san francisco :) only 2 trampers died instead of the usual 5 #I recommend it if you want a show that's easy to digest and easy on the eyes/brain #some episodes have characters that should've been switched to make it make sense #like harbour fools or even bumper buddies #I eventually got used to it #and there's not much worldbuilding going on. not my hugest complaint since it's still a cute show #there are also a few inconsistencies here and there... not to mention the episode order that kind of confused me #the side characters haven't grown much on me but I guess it just doesn't hit me YET #it's still good. I'll give it an 8/10

Always lowkey simmering a Leverage AU in the back of my head hear me out:

Ted is an ex-insurance investigator who was able to get his son life-saving medical treatment because his first, original Crime Pal Beard was like ‘Ted if your company doesn’t come through with the coverage, we’re doing things my way.’

The company did not come through. The company did let him go due to suspicion of Ted’s involvement in the incident, but Ted will happily remind folks that no charges were formally pressed. Henry is alive and healthy and living with Michelle, who divorced Ted shortly thereafter (not just because of pre-existing marital problems, but because Ted wouldn’t tell her anything about why the doctors “””suddenly decided to do the procedure for free”””). Shortly thereafter, Ted fled the country.

What Ted learned from the whole experience is that there’s a lot of people out there, good people just trying to live by the rules, but sometimes things happen that are just out of their control. And well- if we’ve got the means to help the good people out when no one else will, then shouldn’t we try?

“We’ve got means,” Beard agrees. “And motives.”

They do things Beard’s way now.

#also Rebecca is a grifter who gave it up when she married into money and her name(s) echo mysteriously through the back alleys of London #“did you hear about this Secret Princess Lydia who went missing in the 90s?’ ‘yes Ted that was me’#the woman is constantly dodging every half-told lie she made on a lark twenty years ago but she is amazing at keeping them straight #and Roy- Roy long ago took an injury that ended his career as a footballer before it started #and he fell into a bad spot as a hitter #and then he fell into a worse spot #and then he dug himself out for his neice that no one knows about (see: everyone knows about think mafia kid no one is allowed to touch her)#the problem now is he’s getting old #the hits hit harder and his speed isn’t what it used to be #(Roy Kent’s slow is still leagues beyond what these young wannabe punks can do these days)#keeley! she is a sneak thief. very charming. tiny. great with repelling down sides of buildings #loves money and shiny rocks and thinks Rebecca is the bee’s knees #and then there’s Jamie who is a 24 year old hacker with gaudy taste no knack for accents and a problem with authority #in this au him and ted have basically split Nate’s backstory #Ted’s dad took him to bars and taught him little tricks and mind games- nothing fancy just stuff an HR person might know #meanwhile Jamie’s dad took him to shady deals in bars because his dad was a fixer who’d put bad guys in touch with each other #jamie keeps a tracker running on his laptop with his dad’s whereabouts at all times #unfortunately he didn’t think that anyone else would bother looking for him- he’s not exactly a big time crook #but Ted and his crew have pissed off Rupert Mannion who is big time and who wants to hit back at Rebecca for making a fool of him #and Mannion’s people have identified that the way in to breaking their little crew is through Jamie #who’s name sounds so ridiculous people have assumed it was fake this whole time #anyways #thanks for reading #I will likely never write this but boy I have ideas 💡#leverage au #ted lasso #jamie tartt #roy kent #keeley jones #rebecca welton

#ive kind been sleeping on venus in overdrive tbh it's really got some bangers #i wish he'd gone a little less pop with it. if he did live versions/rerecorded versions w more of an... edgy? feel #like he did w 80's songs on the greatest hits... alive live album i think it would rise to one of my all time favorites #i consider every alive version of songs better than the studio versionshis guitar and vocals are better. especially dont talk to strangers #like what's victoria's secret? and i'll miss that someday are rlly good but just feel like something's missing and more of an alive feel #would fix them #title track is fine as is tbh it's got enough going on doesnt feel empty at all #time stand still is the huge exception tho it would be actively worse w the alive treatment. it's kinda too light and empty but in a way #that's appropriate and works perfectly #but sadly i don't think he'll overhaul any of these he doesn't seem very fond of venus in overdrive?#none of it makes it into his set lists and it's underrepresented in his recent big hits compilation album #he def loves rocket science so many of those on big hits. im hoping he'll do some kinda rerecording and that's why it's been taken off #spotify... shock/denial/anger/acceptance wasn't on spotify for a hot minute until he released a 20th anniversary deluxe version this year #i also think a stripped down/acoustic version of rocket science would work really well #sorry i smoked weed and got really autistic abt rick springfield apparently
