some fandom friends of mine ask me why i’m such a steadfast percy defender and the reason is kinda simple: even tho i was a little girl while reading the books, i related far more with percy than with annabeth or clarisse or thalia. i understood percy’s character the most and tho i love them all, my love for percy will be just a bit more and well, for so many others that one favourite closest to heart character is annabeth instead or nico or thalia or clarisse or one of the hoo heroes and that’s the thing about books and all these worlds full of different, interesting people. you relate to characters not just based on gender or motivations or their unique set of attributes but sometimes it’s just the way they talk or their backstory or their ways of coping or their outlook on life or their introspective musings and that’s enough to make them that one special character you will die on hills for and that’s hella dope actually.

Is anyone else upset about how little Herondaisy there is in Chain of Thorns? Like I know I’m insane but I wanted at least some of these things;

Cordelia to make a sacrifice that led into James bringing her back, linking into why the Carstairs owe the Herondales

The Layla and Majnun story and for James to read to Cordelia when she was wounded after doing something brave.

James to call Cordelia ‘Layla’. (Even “Daisy, my Daisy” didn’t feature…)

The line “I suffered every thorn for you I would again”.

Chess games where they revealed things to each other?

Second marriage runes.

For the Belial confrontation to be more Herondaisy focused.

A proper love confession. Like Will had his whole Tale of Two Cities “Last dream of my soul” speech, I was convinced James would have a “to the last hour of my life” love declaration.

Out of the paper bag Jace drew some apples, a bar of fruit and nut chocolate, and a bottle of water. “Not a bad haul,” she said admiringly.

The cheese sandwich was warm and a little limp, but it tasted fine. From one of the innumerable pockets inside his jacket, Jace produced a bone-handled knife that looked capable of disemboweling a grizzly. He set to work on the apples, carving them into meticulous eighths. “Well, it’s not birthday cake,” he said, handing her a section, “but hopefully it’s better than nothing.”

“Nothing is what I was expecting, so thanks.” She took a bite. The apple tasted green and cool.

“Nobody should get nothing on their birthday.” He was peeling the second apple, the skin coming away in long curling strips. “Birthdays should be special.”

so. i just imagined clace with kids and my heart is so soft right now i could actually cry. specially for jace.

i know, i know he's gonna give his children the world. i know he's gonna give them all the love he didn't receive when he was young. i know he's gonna make sure they never doubt how loved they are, how special and great.

and don't get me wrong, i know clary will be an awesome mom too. she's gonna love them fiercely, she's gonna always support them and she's gonna show them how colorful the world is.

they're gonna be wonderful parents (they will be because they're gonna be fine and i don't accept another possibility).

Reading City of Glass now and Jace is so unhinged about Clary it’s actually incredible. He wants her so bad. Like he is legitimately insane and I actually love him for it. My blonde blorbo is a menace for one girl only and yk what I can resonate with that sentiment. I too would be crazy over a girl if I knew she was the love of my life. OBVIOUSLY NOT IF THEY’RE SIBLINGS BUT I KNOW THEY’RE NOT SO I CAN LOOK PAST IT! Can’t believe I even have to say that…Cassandra…why did you put us readers in this position. Anyways. Jace is actually the funniest fucking guy around because his sass is unmatched. Bro is a Herondale for SUREEEE…also I’m so sorry but Clary is one of the dumbest people ever for throwing that tantrum and making her own portal like girl STAND UP! STAND UP. So glad we finally met Sebastian though I was waiting for him to show up I can’t WAIT for his big reveal…I will continue to update as I have before with the previous books! Jace is my number one still!

Alastember - day 10

modern AU headcanons for Alastair's birthday party based on this post I made for edit week

Alastair, Ari, Eugenia and Grace are roommates

Thomas is tasked with keeping Alastair out of the apartment since early morning so Ari and Eugenia could decorate the apartment, while Grace baked a birthday cake and other various desserts

They didn't know if they should invite the Merry Thieves but Grace was bringing Kit and Cordelia asked if she could bring Lucie and James so they said "fuck it" and invited Matthew as well

Thomas takes him out for breakfast

Alastair is suspicious (and a little bit sad) because everyone texted him happy birthday but no one tried to make plans to see him

Alastair and Thomas walk around London after breakfast, Thomas sees Alastair eyeing a polaroid camera and buys it for him ("you already paid for breakfast" "can't I just spoil my beautiful boyfriend on his birthday?")

They go to Thomas’ apartment to grab a picnic basket he prepared for them to eat lunch

They have their picnic in a park, Thomas takes a picture of Alastair with the polaroid camera

During their picnic Sona facetimes Alastair so her and Zachary can wish him a happy birthday

After lunch, Eugenia texts Thomas that he can take Alastair back to the apartment

Everyone hides when Thomas texts that they're entering the building

When Alastair opens the door, they jump out to scream "Happy birthday!"

Everyone takes turns using his new polaroid camera to take pictures of the party

It started as a dance party (courtesy of Ari’s carefully curated playlist) and quickly dissolved into a board game party

Matthew, Kit and Cordelia started a game of Uno, and the rest of the party slowly joined them each round until the last round when everyone was playing (Kit won that last game)

Lucie and James got into fight because Lucie put a +4 for James when he only had 1 card left

After that, they decided to switch to playing jenga and cards

Alcoholic drinks were kept to a minimum for Matthew’s and Alastair’s comfort

Almost at midnight they sang happy birthday to Alastair and he blew out the candles in his cake (“don’t forget to make a wish!” Cordelia said) (Alastair rolled his eyes but silently wished for more birthdays like this)

Everyone complimented Grace on the desserts she made

The night ends with them singing karaoke by pulling up karaoke videos with lyrics from youtube

Thomas stays the night, the next morning, Alastair wakes up first and starts looking for an empty spot in his walls where he can place all the pictures from the day before

seeing takes about how in the harry potter universe it’s just. normalised to have magic and not help people (muggles) with it and no one even questions it really makes me appreciate our shadowhunter universe a lot more. james herondale. alec lightwood. and many many others who despite being built on bigoted social systems (which developed despite their mandate being literally to protect mundanes) they want to help people of all kinds and strive for equality and they want their society as a whole to do that. it’s really lovely seeing this reflected in my favourite characters and getting to enjoy their stories and the media as a whole and feel validated and not weird for wanting this too. and then to see these protagonists win overall: if not creating the world they want, their motivations and decisions they make along the way leading to a world that’s better for their actions and I really think we need more of this. and for that we can’t let our criticism get away from us even when it’s not perfect

thought dump for the midnight heir?? I feel like we’ve both been swept into a resurgence. I’ve got my own opinions but you seem to see a lot of the symbolism etc which I do love! But talk about anything, I’m just hungry for perspectives!

(idk how many original thoughts i have for you, so i'm just gonna go off and hope something lands lol)

one thing that's always been really intriguing to me is how the pure love that persists between tessa, will, and jem, can sour and become something sick from james' perception, that he would use his resentment of that love and as a measure for the damning pain he's in and thus an impetus to be intentionally careless with his life. while on the other hand, we have jesse who, according to tatiana, held onto life for his own mother, a mother who may have loved him but who would have taught only hatred and vengeance, of the wrongs that the world committed toward their family. it's almost like james' heart was pumped so full of love that it burst and splayed open only for grace to step into it and sew it back up around herself, a blade making the heart bleed from the inside. and jesse's heart was filled with a poison, toxic kind of love that eroded the organ, making the walls frail, but forcing a level of strength and dexterity into his blood, and thereby into grace as well, whom he welcomed to live inside his heart and draw from his yearning as well.

it's the way they all intertwine. the way the two boys parallel eachother, like james is the one who came through the looking glass and jesse is the one caught behind it. james shot down the chandelier and there was glass on the floor of blackthorn hall when magnus entered it. james with his cheshire cat grin and jesse's deathly portrait. james leaping back and forth into existence while jesse stands delicately on the line.

speaking of that leaping.. tmh james uses his shadows with such flippancy and control, like they're as much a part of him as his corporeal form. "we are dust and shadows," he reminds magnus. and i think it's so interesting, like in a biblical sense, dust is as much life as it is death ("from dust you were made and to dust you shall return"), and shadows move as one with the one they're tied to, but they are not really alive. so james is a shadow but one with its own mind and will, like peter pan's shadow. he doesn't bow to the essence and laws of life and dust. but then where is the dust? again, speaking to the parallels.. i think it could be jesse. he is not really dead, but not really alive, either, he exists as merely the imprint of the boy he once was was on the earth, with as much potential to be blown away by the wind as he has to be filled in with dust mixed with water and blood like cement making him whole again.

i mentioned peter pan's shadow, and that made me think that maybe jesse, in that case, would be peter himself, caught up in neverland, never growing up, unable to leave without dust that's given life in the form of pixie dust.

it's so interesting to think of how these two would eventually meet in the canon of tmh, because i do think tatiana would still find a way to kill five shadowhunters to bring him back to life. and if they return to idris, and if james fulfills his goal of being sent back to idris by being a rapscallion and harming mundanes instead of protecting them, they're bound to wind up in the same space together. it would be interesting if, in james' infatuation with grace, he takes up a shield behind her while she acts as her mother's blade, if he learns of the plans to raise jesse, and because of his fucked up sense of love and loyalty and the potential of a spell put on him by grace, he aids her in someway. james' wild ferocity tied down at jesse's feet by grace. peter and his shadow.

TWP PLOT LEAKED

Alert!! : This may contain spoilers for the TWP (The Wicked Powers) Shadowhunter series by Cassandra Clare. Read at your own risk.

Dru loves dancing and so while she dances Kit decides to climb his favorite tree and Ty collects lizards while Ash peacefully drinks tea with Janus. Then Dru and Kit become parabatai but Kit had promised the tree he loved very much that they'd be parabatai, so that in order for the tree not to feel left out, Kit gives Ash some seeds. Ash chokes on them and so Ty puts a lizard in his mouth to save his life. Then Ash becomes a lizard man and tries to kidnap Dru, but mistakes Ty for her, so he kidnaps Ty. Then Kit and Janus go to save Ty, and drag the new Ash lizard princess along to the long awaited Clace wedding. Kit kisses Ty, and shocked, Princess Lizard Ash stumbles and accidentally kisses Clary. Everyone starts panicking for another Clebastian plot line, though not sibling x sibling but aunt x nephew. But then Dru starts showing off her dancing moves and everyone gets distracted and starts cheering and dancing and forgets about the incident and Kit grabs the microphone as if to make a speech but starts making "your mom" jokes instead. Then while eating wedding cake Janus gets reminded he failed to kill all these people having fun, so he throws a tantrum. The end.

I really hope we'll get another TSC series, and I'm really positive about it, because I feel like we were left with a cliffhanger. I'm so excited for this!!! Cassie slayed this one.

I’m not saying Rhysand from ACOTAR is definitely a long lost Herondale, I’m just saying we have to look at the facts presented:

- incredibly tall and attractive

- distinctive eyes, hair, and tattoos

- Cursed? Maybe??

- well read

- *ahem* appreciates art and artists

- willing to do anything for his friends and loved ones including pretending to be an asshole

- complicated family relationships

- warrior/comes from a warrior culture

- completely 110% in love with his wife even before actually meeting her for real

And for the two final points:

- chiseled, but angsty

- not one person (including him) seems to indicate they know his last name.

I’m just saying he could rock up to the family meeting and no one would question it.
