I love how the banter is in the story, how delightful it is, and let’s just face it, the smut is decadent. Everyone is in character and Ron’s a character in it, for sure.

Hardest character to write.Answered here, but, in summary, if it isn’t Ron or Hermione (or possibly Harry), I honestly have little interest in going in depth with them, so that makes it hard for me to get inside their heads long enough to do more than have them enter a scene for the sole purpose of moving the Ron/Hermione story line forward… 44. NSFW/Non ace-safe ask, so feel free to delete: Do you know of any fics where Ron is kinda submissive? He is always the carer, and he always gives so much of himself all the time, that I'd like to see a fic where his partner (Hermione, Harry, whoever) takes care of him instead, and where Ron knows he is safe and loved, and that his partner would never hurt him.

‘ello Nonnie. No matter what, this answer goes below a read-more line since I have plenty of Aces who are more squicked than I am on the subject.

First of all, I’m gonna get this out of the way on the front end:

I don’t read slash fic at all. Dating 2 guys in the closet first starting my dating life back in the dark ages, when being in the closet was a matter of survival back where I grew up, brings too many flashbacks for me, or in some cases, the fetishizing of the MLM loving relationship squicks me out significantly.

I’ve read only 2 that were written where I could handle reading it (because so much of it was OOC and just poorly handled and instead of being an arse, I noped out of there.) but most are just not accurate, healthy, or even loving. It was obvious reading it that it wasn’t written by someone who was possibly gay or Q* but someone having a fetish. I won’t read those at all.

I see it as disrespectful to the 2 guys I dated who were in the closet for safety reasons and could only come out when it was safe to do so - even if 1 lost their family over it. O_O

The only one who writes Ron/Harry that I can get behind and appreciate is some of the ancient fics by @hermionewazlib . She was the first one I ever saw shipping such and her way with banter is top notch/A* quality there. I’m sure she’ll be tickled that there is an upswing in the HMS Best Mate sailing again after the retrofit.

As a second caveat, and someone who has been married for a very long time.... it’s unrealistic that you would a partner who would never hurt you, even on accident. I’m quite gentle with my Hubs (which I know sounds Fake but true) and treat him with kid gloves because you don’t harm an admirable yet delicate man (who is neuroatypical) and even I’ve said things to hurt him, even accidentally.

Finding a partner who doesn’t intend to hurt you but since accidents do happen and works their arse off to not repeat a mistake so it doesn’t become a problem? Yeah, that’s the good (stuff) going on there. Sign me up for that.

Hmmm. Ron as a Sub. Ya know, I’ve never really read anything out there (and I’ve read some really kinky things out there (and noped out of quite a bit, too!) and plenty I’ve noped out of, too.

But a specific fic where Ron is a Sub (and everything that goes along with it?)

Ugh, actually no.

(Caveat: What I am referring to is more kink related and this would be along the lines of emotional behaviors and vulnerabilities, journaling and doing tasks as their Dom would want. It would require absolute trust and healthy boundaries on the part of both parties, previously agreed-upon power dynamics, full consent and safe words, and a full stop for anything that isn’t enthusiastically agreed to.)

But if you are referring to where Hermione takes lead in the bedroom, where she calls the shots sexually and Ron is just along for the ride? Where she tends him like Dionysus and feeding him grapes on a fainting couch?

There are plenty where she takes the lead in the bedroom. There is virtually none I’ve read where she tends him like he does for her.

I, for one, haven’t written much on that aspect because I write Hermione as something akin to what could be construed as an Alpha Sub - someone outside of closed doors who kicks ass, takes names, burns anything in her way, takes care of her business and when she has her man in her life, it is because she wants him there, not because she needs him. It’s a relationship based on partnership, mutual trust and respect, and plenty of laughter.

But by writing her like this, as an Alpha Sub, means that when I get her behind closed doors, she wants to quit thinking, quit having to micromanage everything in her professional life and just feel. While this might indicate that Ron is being a Dom, I look at it as more of him fulfilling his nurturing nature and caring for the woman he loves and tending her needs and doing so with so much joy towards her pleasure.

But to find an actual fic where his partner (either Hermione, Harry, or both of them) treats him as cherished and loved and wanted and feels safe to express himself completely without concern?

That is a most sacred Unicorn there, Nonnie.

I have read some fic where Hermione is the focus of both of the guys.  I’ve read Harry being the focus of both Hermione and Ron. I have not stumbled across one with Ron being the focus of such. (This includes the deep delving at Restricted Section, TQP, and some others.)

Maybe @pynki knows since she’s been in and around longer than I have.

Even the 1 I came across years ago on another site (I’m intentionally not pointing where I saw it because it’s a sensitive subject) where Ron and Hermione are doing some serious D/S RP behind closed doors and Harry accidentally gets a memory switched up and Ron’s hauled up on domestic abuse charges by the Ministry on something taken completely out context and it jeopardizes everything he’s done in his life - including his relationship with his kids.

But where Ron is treated like royalty by his partner?

Nope. I’ve never come across such a fic.

If anyone does know such, send me a link  I’ll be more than happy to add it onto an edited list for this post.

The plot was where Hermione Granger brewed an experimental potion to understand Ron Weasley's mind. But ends up with a side effect of amplifying every kind of spell they cast. Understanding the potential use of the potion, she and Ron, share the potion with Ginny and Harry, Neville and Luna, Tonks and Lupin. Also everytime each couple, well, had sex, their amplified magic tends to create a wind vortex which wrecked up the room they were in. Can anyone identify the title/writer of said fanfic ?

Hogwarts Grounds, a few hours after Voldemort’s defeat...

“I wasn’t sure what side he wason,” Harry says heavily, gesturing to the body lying on the ground before them. “What side any of them were on. But in theend...he came through for us. No matter what you thought of him before, you’vegot to respect that. He gave us everything. He fought for us, gave his life...”The two of them stand in a respectful silence for some moments, neither knowingquite what to say to break it.

Until— “Big bugger, wasn’t he?”Ron shudders. Even Harry has to admit his stomach is turned somewhat by lookingat the way the giant spider’s eight legs are folded up so horribly.

“Not half,” he agrees. He’s notquite sure what to do. The spider’s clearly one of Aragog’s decedents,defending the school, his territory. Harry doesn’t know how many of them cameto help them, but he know that this one can’t be left here. A ginormous spiderin the middle of the Quidditch Pitch is likely to cause mass panic among analready highly strung population, for one thing. It needs to be moved. “We should give him a funeral.Bury him.”

“Harry,” groans Ron, and he swears he’s never heard him sound soexasperated.

“He died for us, Ron,” he remindshim. Ron mutters something under his breath. “We have to honour him at least that much.” Moremuttering. Harry knows how Ron feels about spiders, but, really. This one can’tbe left here. “We’ve at least got to move him,” he says. “We can levitate him,you won’t have to touch him. We’ll put him in Hagrid’s pumpkin patch for now.”

They raise their wands together,Ron fighting a look of disgust as he does so, and levitate the spider’s corpseinto Hagrid’s garden, safe from harm. “You are the only person in the world I woulddo this for,” he says, when they’re done, shuddering in disgust.

Harry gives him a tiny grin. “Don’tworry,” he says. “When the time comes, we’ll cremate him. Hagrid can help. But youcan be in charge of the flamethrower, okay?”

Oh, all right, thanks for the info! I did a quick search and the test is relatively new in Argentina, 2013 or so.

I still mantain that it's the woman's choice and she must have her reasons if she decides to terminate her pregnancy, and that in any case, she has to know that abortion is not an easy choice and there's still the chance that her next pregnancy, if there is one, might result in another fetus with Down Syndrome. It still doesn't equate to eugenics, since it's a choice that many women will not and cannot be forced in any way to take. The matter here resides in pre-natal genetic tests and how ethical is their use.

Well, honestly... First time fics aren’t my taste, either because Ron’s a sex god in them - or it’s just too sappy... [hemming and hawing]

I will give you a few of the ones I find worth re-reading, just ‘cause...

There’s Australia, because @tenpointstohufflepuff , it is so honest and so candidly written that I appreciated how real it was - including the morning after consequences.

Second is @trademarkblue writing Eye to Eye because while I’m not always fond of 5 seconds after fics, this one spoke to me on a spiritual level.

Third is, well, anything by @hermionewazlib - but I think my favorite is Back to Front. (But Pluperfect Gentleman is absolutely hilarious. Shocolate has a way with banter and linguists that eternally has me in stitches. (And it doesn’t hurt that she’s besties with Blue, lucky sod!)) She writes Ron as awkward, bumbling, adorable and completely barmy for Hermione that is wonderful to read and the banter is top notch. (And for good measure, I’m tossing in [The] Wrong Knickers. You’ll thank me for this one.

And let’s talk @mugglemama . Dear Merlin! If you’ve not read Watching Love, or Connected, you’ve truly missed out. (And honorable mention to It’s not Easy being Green just ‘cause!)

I’m also throwing Luvscharlie, on LJ, for this particular fic that is funny and sweet and awkward and so fitting for the two of them: Advice on Sex (but for good heavens, don’t take it!)

Honestly it's not the answer I was looking for but I really appreciate your honesty. I understand that the war would be leave scars on them, I guess I just want my favourite characters to be happy after everything they've been through. The fact it's that I really dislike how Ron's mistakes are pointed out and he always tries to fix the situation but when it comes to Hermione her mistakes are never considered, by the author and herself. (part 1)

I want both of them to want this relationship, and most of the time I don't feel it. Btw, this opinion I have is not related to one fic - Australia was an important example though - or your fics, because I actually really love the way you portrait them. Thank you for your honest opinion. (part 2 end)

So it sounds like what you are looking for in a fic is obvious displays of affection, including words, that would be considered over the top. (I was going to say Sappy but that's a cranky dragon's view of such which I realize most people like and want.)

But you also point out that the focus is more on Ron rather than Hermione when it comes to wanting such things for their relationship, or that her PoV isn't included where she can demonstrate her desire to want a relationship with him and doing everything in her power to make him feel loved, wanted, cherished, but also make her real and perfectly equal to him in such.

Quoting @hermionewazlib‘s fic The Wrong Knickers, Hermione would make her choices and walk away if she felt less than respected or treated wrong. She wouldn’t step out on him because of her own issues - and his, too.

If I may also point out in this corner of the fandom, almost all of us are Ron stans. He catches grief for being so real and also disparaged and scrubbed down into one or two particulars that there is an over-abundance of focus on him. I think part of it is that Hermione is held up as a paragon who can do no wrong - bollocks completely but then I certainly acknowledge that.

Asking them to find happiness immediately after such events probably wouldn't happen - because of the consequences. But they would eventually.

But if I might add..... (Old Dragon waxing philosophically...) Happiness is an emotion and rather fleeting. Much of it requires personal choice. Contentment is a choice, too. The first years of post-war of Ron and Hermione would have issues from time to time, but also what you don't see - the obvious displays of affection - the ensure drinking whiskey-swilling writers know is love, integrity, honesty, and commitment. Love isn't hot flames of passion burning bright forever. It can be banked embers ready to ignite with more fuel added. It's providing warmth and light when it doesn't appear as such. @wildegreenlight and I are old married ladies and I like to think that we are writing more realistic ways of love - acts of service along with words and deeds - as well as fluffy moments to give empathy reactions.

If it'll help, I'll share that when I write Ron and Hermione, I base some of Hermione on my sib from another crib. For years, she was sharp edges and high maintenance and a handful, to say the least. (There are reasons for such which I won't get into but I'm sure you can read between the lines.) Her husband is incredible, but not like Ron in all ways but as such in the important ones, like honor and commitment, integrity and honesty. They've come a very long way in the years they've been married. They’ve weathered so much in the 20+ years they’ve been married - like most couples would at this point (including Wilde and I.)

Dulling sharp edges has to be a personal choice. Just like happiness and contentment are.

So if I am reading such correctly, what you are missing from the fics is the displays from Hermione that she wants Ron as much as he wants her - including her mistakes, humanity, warts and all.

I get that. Your criticisms make sense especially for those who Stan Ron more than I do (and I'm pretty stannish for him.) Maybe for the next one I write I can do such, writing Hermione with her sharper edges and complications and a little more demonstration of affection from her towards him. She loves him dearly - I thought you knew that.

I personally operate on the assumption that she's with him of her own choice, agency, and desire for him. Ron wasn't settling or he deserved her, etc etc etc. A witch like Hermione would make her choices and probably boggle the hell out of Ron for years, not realizing how important he is for her - and vice versa.

Sometimes sharp edges need an acute angle to compliment that sharp edge. And sometimes being married to your best friend is one of the best ways to refine a sharp edge.
