⚠️ MAYBE SPOILERS ⚠️ Okay I haven't see 5x04 but from some pics/spoilers hermione is doing commercials or something (I don't know how to say it 😂) for the real housewives . So since she's living for new york apparently and she is divorced and on the other side mary isn't living in the andrews house and we know she likes girls , they could have mary break up from brooke(i think 😂) since its 7 years later and make hermione and mary a couple happily living in new york and come to riverdale to see their children when they want or the kids going to them (since marisol's leaving and we won't see her 😭)

Hey! Any thoughts on a Mary/Hermione friendship? Either when younger or as they are now 😊 the most recent episode made me crave some good content between the two!

I LOVE Mary and Hermione being best friends and it's one of my earliest headcanons. I see them being a bit like digest beronica. Popular, outgoing (and perhaps a little mean) Hermione who always had multiple boys after her and smart, over achieving (yet not a pushover) Mary who'd just as soon give you the shirt off her back as she would tell you off for wrong doing.

Mary was also probably quite a bit of Hermione's impulse control and I can see her constantly putting a hand on Hermione's shoulder and going "maybe we shouldn't?" 50/50 on Hermione actually taking the advice.

The two were also completely protective over each other. Hermione could tease Mary over being a nerd or Mary could call Hermione out for being a bitch, but the second someone else did it was over for them 🔪🔪🔪

There was no jealous when Mary started dating Fred because it was long over between him and Hermione and Hermione legitimately wanted both of them to be happy. I won't say they parted Riverdale on a bad note, but they did fall out of touch and I can see that being more on Hermione's side, thus Mary's immediate coldness towards her in 1x11. (ending with her asking her out two minutes later... mary could literally never stay mad at her.)

I had never considered it before but you made an excellent point about the double standards when it comes to Alice dating FP and FP dating Alice and just how the fandom reacts to her actions vs the men. It screams sexism and even though I’m not fond of Alice, you made me see the light.

I don’t care that you’re not fond of Alice, you’re entitled to your own opinion, but I’m glad I’ve made somebody aware of the blatant double standards, even if it’s one person at the moment. The sexism/misogyny throughout the fandom is rife, with every female character and actress, but it’s more centred on clothing and policing sexuality, the basics really. However, with Alice, and even Madchen at times, it’s just so much more present and extreme. When it comes to the overall complaints and issues the fandom has with Alice and the general anti Alice rhetoric, FP and Hal have been guilty of the same situations and behaviours, but there’s a completely different reaction, if any at all and I’ll happily break it down:

Alice having Polly sent away and the attempt to have her baby adopted was “evil” on Alice’s part, but despite it being heavily implied that it’s clearly a Cooper family past time seeing as Hal did the same to Alice, thus making Hal just as guilty by default and heavily involved, him doing the same was seen as doing what was best for his family and being concerned for his daughter. Yet only one of them apologised and admit their mistake.

Alice keeping the existence and paternity of Charles a secret from Betty and Polly was seen as selfish and considered to be something that “destroyed” the family, despite the reasons her burying it being completely understandable and even breaking her, furthermore, her teen pregnancy had absolutely no impact on the family or her kids. Hal however, keeping his ancestry a secret and still keeping it a secret even when it resulted in his daughter dating her cousin, something that did actually destroy the family, is completely ignored, and Hal has never been held accountable for that to this day. Imagine your father knowing damn well you’re romantically involved with your cousin and he keeps quiet about it even when you fall pregnant by him, that is absolutely disgusting, but then again, this fandom is full of the nastiest white people to ever roam the planet so I guess that’s why it’s not a big deal to them, but that’s another conversation for another day.

Alice crying over her family breaking down was seen as weak, pathetic, embarrassing and character degrading but Hal supposedly “crying” over a home video of Polly while she was away makes him an absolute caring sweetheart of a father.

Alice is slandered for sleeping with FP in 2x17 whilst separated from Hal, and it’s seen as embarrassing and again character degrading but Hal cheating on Alice with his cousin is either ignored or somehow twisted into not actually happening because we never saw them actually engage in anything intimate on screen

Alice’s involvement in investigating the farm and the lengths she had to go through to keep her cover albeit she went the wrong way with some of her methods, (I won’t dispute that, even though informants have to go to extreme lengths and it isn’t really their choice at all, their superiors do not care about who they hurt along the way, they just wanna close their cases. I know people who have almost let loved ones get in serious trouble and had to sit back and do nothing because coming forward would’ve blown their cover, but also half of that crap only happened because of Riverdale’s writing, am I really gonna sit here and complain about that? No, I’m not a clown, that would be a waste of time, you don’t see me complaining about Sweet Pea or Tom’s absence while their loved ones were getting sliced up by Edgar, why? Because this show doesn’t care about anybody outside the core four unless they’re involved in a core four members storyline. Also those of you who say you could understand or excuse her actions if she was actually brainwashed, she was, pre 3x12 or possibly 3x10, Roberto and Mädchen have said it, go find the interviews) but at the end of the day doing it to help and protect ALL her kids is still complained about to this day and used to slander her and call her abusive (Something the fandom needs to stop throwing around because it’s ignorant and insensitive. There’s a difference between a character acting abusive and a character doing something you’re not fond of. Penelope and Hiram are abusive, they literally bully their children, berate them and constantly assert dominance over them and use it to make them bend to their whim, menawhile Alice has just made shitty mistakes) Meanwhile, Hal, whilst sitting in a prison cell, for murdering Betty’s classmates, neighbours, trying to murder her three times and psychologically abusing her for months is given the father of the year title for saying everything Alice did was “bad”. The bar is where you ask? On the motherfucking floor. I know these are the same people who gush in their panties over men who “babysit” THEIR children

Alice being romantically involved with her daughters boyfriends father is selfish and inconsiderate as it will affect her daughters relationship, despite being in love with him for a quarter century and still at one point attempting to make things work with a man she was not in love with for the sake of her family but FP, being romantically involved with his son’s girlfriend’s mother, literally the same situation, has absolutely no response whatsoever, and never has.

There are probably other examples I’m missing but you get the point. I don’t care if people aren’t fond of Alice or Falice or whatever, and everyone’s entitled to their own opinions, but don’t sit here and be blatantly disingenuous in your reasons when we can see right through that shit like glass. You hate Alice for being romantically involved with her daughters boyfriends father? Fair enough, but make sure FP’s name is in your mouth too, that also goes to the Varchie stans who have pointed this out constantly even though it doesn’t concern them, they better keep that “imagine doing that to your child” energy if by some miracle we get the Hermary ship sailing (there’s still time, Molly all but said we’d learn Mary is a lesbian, like we didn’t already know and Marisol teased a love interest for Hermione) since the parents of their ship dating seems to be such a huge deal to them. And you hate Alice for “abusing” Betty? Okay, but make sure you hate Hal just as much if not more instead of wishing for him to come back from the dead and going out of your way to twist everything he does into a loving act of kindness when it clearly isn’t. I mean, at the end of the day, the only difference between the three of them is an extra X chromosome, just saying.
