On October 14th 1714, a declaration issued by James VIII said that apart from himself, there were 57 descendants of James VI who had a better claim to the British throne than George, Elector of Hanover.
James Stuart, also known in history as the ‘Old Pretender' ( was the son of James II, whose Roman Catholic faith saw him deposed in what became known as the Glorious Revolution of 1688/89 when he was replaced  by William and Mary.
In 1714, when George I succeeded Queen Anne, James Stuart was exiled in France.  James sought support from Scotland for the return of a Catholic monarch and proceeded to spend the rest of his life plotting and leading uprisings/revolts from abroad against the Hanover line
The Declaration of James Stuart was issued from Lorraine in France and distributed in both manuscript and printed form to the leading members of England's nobility.  It begins with a brief history of James' claim to the throne, a promise of what England could be under his rule and claimed that, had Queen Anne lived longer, she would have been favourable to his cause. The first pic is a transcript fro UK parliament records.
This wasn.t the only declaration made by James and his supporters. the second pic shows a handbill addressed ‘to all true-hearted Scotsmen’ to restore James Francis Edward to the throne, on 1st January 1715, it was all part of a continued propaganda campaign to raise awareness and support for the uprisings that followed. It reads;
To all True-Hearted SCOTSMEN, whether Soldiers or Others.
When our Brave and Ancient Nation is like to be engag’d in War, I think it is every Man’s Business to consider, That whatever may be said in Defence of Soldiers of Fortune fighting in foreign Countries (when perhaps it is neither so easy, nor so much the Duty of Strangers to consider the Quarrel) yet no Man can, with any Shew of Reason, plead the Lawfulness of making War a Trade, when it comes to be Civil or Domestic. In this Case, ‘tis only the Lawfulness of the Cause, and the Good of his Country that can warrant any Man to engage in it: For if he embark on the wrong Side, from a Principle of Interest, or any selfish Consideration, every Slaughter he makes of a contrary Party is a fresh Murder; and if he falls himself he goes to the Devil for Hire. By the Earl of Mar’s Manifesto we find, That the present Quarrel turns upon these Two Points, be Restoring our Lawful Natural King. And the Dissolving the Union: Both which should be [seriously] weigh’d by all Scotsmen, being of the utmost Importance, both on the Score of Conscience, Hour, and Interest. As to the Restoring to His Throne King JAMES VIII. Whatever some Men’s Interest may [prompt] them to say or do; yet I’m confident, that in our secret Thought we are agreed, That He our Lawful Rightful Sovereign: And we all know, that He is the Undoubted Lineal Heir by [blood] and Descendant of the Ancient Race of our Scottish Kings: whose Ancestors, in a direct [line], have sway’d the Sceptre in our Hereditary Monarchy for many Generations, without Cont.; a Prince upon whom the Crown is entail’d by the Fundamental Laws of our Country, and to whom, even before He was born, we have often sworn Allegiance and Fealty by those Oaths given former Kings, by which we bound ourselves not only to them, but to their Lawful Heirs and accessors. …… BUT whether a King and Parliament had Power to alter the Succession, or not, never any Man, before [1688], except the Rump Parliament, pretended, that a Meeting without a King, or without any Authority from Him, had Power to make void the Throne; which was, in effect, to unhinge the Monarchy, and razethe Constitution from the very Foundation. They who contriv’d [thought up] the Scheme, both here and in England, were so sensible of the Weakness of their Arguments to satisfy the Minds of the People, that they were forc’d to bring in a Supplemental Topic, The illegitimacy of the Prince of Wales’s Birth [suggestion here that that Charles Francis Edward was not the true son of James II-hence call him the “Old Pretender”] So impudent a Piece of Slander, that, however serviceable it was to their Interest to make it appear, and however frequently challenged to do so, they never durst bring it to a fair Trial. THINGS being thus, (as I don’t doubt but you are very sensible they are) Pray, Gentlemen, consider whether you are safe, either in Conscience or Honour, to draw your Swords for so precarious and ill-founded an Establishment. I should be unwilling to think, that in the present Case, Soldiers should consider the Justice of the Cause less than other Men, because they are more concerned than others, being the chief Actors in any Blood and Slaughter that may ensue: and he that sheds the Blood of his Fellow-subjects and Countrymen, probably his Brethren and nearest Relations, in a Cause that he cannot show to be just, will give the World but a slender Opinion either of his Religion or good Sense. As you would then approve your selves to God, the World, and your selves to be Christians, Men of Honour, and Scotsmen, consider seriously before you draw your Swords, whom you are to fight against, and what you fight for........
The third pic is also from 1715prior to the /15 Uprising rising under way, James VIII declares himself to be the lawful king and states his readiness to reclaim his crown.
He highlights the foreign nature of the House of Hanover and encourages support in Scotland with a claim he will restore the country to its independent state.
James Stuart died in 1766, leaving his son Charles, 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' to continue to pursue his claim to the English throne.

Queen Victoria’s Descendants (LIVING DESCENDANTS ONLY)
If you see any mistakes or can offer info on something like “Child 1” or an unknown birth or death year, please let me know. The only non-living descendants I kept on this list were her children
Key
Bold names=Queen Victoria’s children
* Descendants are already listed elsewhere on this list or the ones who would follow said person Examples:  Mark Nicholas van Eyck should be followed by  Princess Dorothea of Hesse but she and her descendants are also descended elsewhere. Another examples are Queen Elizabeth II & The Duke of Edinburgh’s descendants and the descendants of Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha and  Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten
** I’ve seen reports that she died in 2002, but no obituary. Any ideas?

On This Day In Royal History . 2 November 1709 . Anne, Princess Royal, & later Princess of Orange was born . 👑 Anne was born at Herrenhausen Palace, Hanover, five years before her paternal grandfather, Elector George Louis, succeeded to the British throne as George I. She was christened shortly after birth at Herrenhausen Palace. She was named after her paternal grandfather’s second cousin Anne, Queen of Great Britain. . ◼ Anne, Princess Royal & Princess of Orange was the second child & eldest daughter of King George II of Great Britain & his consort, Caroline of Ansbach. . ◼ She was the spouse of William IV, Prince of Orange, the first hereditary stadtholder of the Netherlands. . ◼ Princess Anne was the second daughter of a British sovereign to hold the title Princess Royal. . ◼ She was Regent of the Netherlands from 1751 until her death in 1759 (12 January) from dropsy, exercising extensive powers on behalf of her son William V. . ◼ Because of her English upbringing & family connections, she was known as an Anglophile - despite being unable to convince the Dutch Republic to enter the Seven Years’ War on the side of the British. . ◼ The princess took drawing & painting lessons from Herman van der Mijn & made a self-portrait of herself in 1740 that is in the collection of the House of Orange-Nassau Historic Collections Trust. She also made a portrait of Van der Mijn himself while he was at work making portraits of other family members. . . . #OnThisDayInHistory #ThisDayInHistory #TheYear1709 #AnnePrincessRoyal #PrincessAnne #PrincessofOrange #HouseofHanover #HouseofOrange #EnglishMonarchy #DutchMonarchy #PrincessRoyal #BritishMonarchy #D2Nov #royalfamily #otd #OnThisDay #Historyfacts #hanover #princess #georgeii #kinggeorgeii #carolineofansbach #herrenhausen #herrenhausenpalace 🎨 Royal Collection Trust/© Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 2020 (at Hanover, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHGN82Bjyy3/?igshid=5d33qtc0hn95

Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark
Tumblr media
Prince Andrew was born on the 2nd of February, 1882, at Tatoi Palace, just north of Athens. He was the fourth son of George I of Greece and his wife, Olga Constantinovna of Russia. His father was a son of Christian IX of Denmark and therefore was a prince of both Denmark and Greece. He was also a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. Andrew was in the line of succession to the Greek throne and, distantly, the Danish throne.
His learned languages included Greek and Danish, as well as German, French, Russian and English. He refused to speak any language other than Greek when speaking with his parents. He attended cadet school and a staff college in Athens and given private tuition in military subjects. Andrew joined the army as a cavalry officer in May of 1901.
During his stay in London in 1902, on occasion of the coronation of King Edward VII, Prince Andrew met Princess Alice of Battenberg. Princess Alice was a daughter of Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine. The following year, October 6th, 1903, Andrew and Alice married in a civil ceremony at Darmstadt, in Germany. Two religious ceremonies were performed the following day; one Lutheran in the Evangelical Castle Church and a second Greek Orthodox in the Russian Chapel on the Mathildenhöhe.
The political situation in Greece in 1909 led to a coup d’état. The Athens government refused to support the Cretan parliament, which had wanted the union of Crete (which was still nominally a part of the Ottoman Empire) with the Greek mainland. A group of officers formed a Greek nationalist Military League which led to Andrew’s resignation from the army and Eleftherios Venizelos’ rise to power.
After the outbreak of the Balkan Wars in 1912, Andrew was reinstated as a lieutenant colonel in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment in the army and placed in command of a field hospital. During this time, Andrew’s father was assassinated and he had inherited a villa on the island of Corfu. In 1914, Andrew honorary military posts in the German and Russian empires, also Prussian, Russian, Italian and Danish knighthoods.
Andrew continued to visit Great Britain during World War I, despite the accusations that he was a German agent in the British House of Commons. King Constantine I, the current king of Greece and Andrew’s brother, was neutral but the democratically elected government of Venizelos supported the Allies of the war (those who opposed Germany). In June 1917, Constantine abdicated and the Greek royal family were forced into exile. Most of the family lived in Switzerland.
For the three years since Constantine’s abdication, his second son, Alexander, became king of Greece, until his early death from an infection. Constantine was reinsated to the throne and Andrew, once again, was reinstated in the army as a major-general. The Greek defeat in Asia Minor in August 1922 that led to the 11th of September 1922 Revolution saw Prince Andrew arrested once more, court-martialled and found guilty of “disobeying an order” and “acting on his own initiative” during the battled of the previous year. Andrew, spared while others were not, was banished from Greece for life and he and his family settled in the outskirts of Paris, in a house loaned by Andrew’s wealthy sister-in-law, Princess George of Greece. He and his family were stripped of their Greek nationality and travelled under Danish passports.
During their exile, Alice suffered a nervous breakdown which saw her institutionalised in Switzerland, and their daughters were married and settled in Germany, with their only son, Philip, at school in Britain.
He lived in a small apartment, hotel rooms or on board a yacht with his lady-friend, Countess Andrée de La Bigne, a French stage and film actress, for time. Alice was released from the institution and returned to Greece without her husband; their marriage over. In 1936, his exile sentence was quashed by emergency laws. He visited Greece briefly that May. The following year, his daughter Cécile, his son-in-law and two (arguably three as Cécile was pregnant at the time and a body of a baby was found in the wreckage) of his grandchildren were killed in an air accident at Ostend. He met Alice for the first time in six years at their daughters funeral.
Trapped in Vichy France at the start of World War II, Andrew found himself unable to see or correspond with his son, Philip, who fought of the side of the British. He never saw his wife or son again.
Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark died in Hotel Metropole, Monte Carlo in Monaco of arteriosclerosis and heart failure just as the war was ending. Andrew was buried in the Russian Orthodox Church in Nice but his remains were transferred in 1946 to the royal cemetery at Tatoi Palace. He left to his son seven-tenths of his estate but also left behind a debt of £17,500.

The wedding of King Constantine II of the Hellenes, and Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark took place on Friday, 18 September 1964 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, two weeks after Anne-Marie's 18th birthday.Constantine II, King of the Hellenes was the only son of King Paul of the Hellenes and Princess Friederike of Hanover, while Princess Anne-Marie was the youngest daughter of King Frederick IX of Denmark and Princess Ingrid of Sweden. It was the first, and to date only, wedding of a Greek monarch whilst they sat on the throne to be held in Greece
Princess Anne-Marie wore a relatively unadorned gown by Danish designer, Jørgen Bender. Her Irish lace veil, worn by her maternal grandmother, Princess Margaret of Connaught at her own wedding in 1905, was anchored by a Cartier diamond tiara given to Princess Margaret by the Khedive of Egypt. The veil had also been worn by her mother, Queen Ingrid, in 1935. The veil and tiara together have been worn by all of Ingrid's female descendants.
King Constantine II wore the ceremonial uniform of field marshal of the Hellenic Army. He wore the riband and star of the Order of the Redeemer as well as all his other medals and decorations.
The wedding was attended by 1200 guests from all over the world. As both the bride and groom were descendants of Victoria of the United Kingdom and Christian IX of Denmark, they were closely related to almost all of the royal houses in Europe, many of whom were in attendance.

Those that have married in to Royal Families since 1800
Monaco
Ernst August, Prince of Hanover, Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg (Ernst August Albert Paul Otto Rupprecht Oskar Berthold Friedrich-Ferdinand Christian-Ludwig Prinz von Hannover Herzog zu Braunschweig und Lüneburg Königlicher Prinz von Großbritannien und Irland) born 26 February 1954
Ernst August was born in Hanover, the eldest son of Ernst August, Hereditary Prince of Brunswick and his first wife, Princess Ortrud of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg
As the senior male-line descendant of George III of the United Kingdom, Ernst August is head of the House of Hanover, the surviving junior branch of the medieval House of Welf, which itself is the older branch of the House of Este, a dynasty whose earliest known members lived in Lombardy in the late 9th/early 10th century and which, in its younger branch, ruled Ferrara (1240–1597) and the Duchy of Modena-Reggio (1288–1796) in Italy.
The title of Prince of Great Britain and Ireland was recognised ad personam for Ernst August's father and his father's siblings by King George V of the United Kingdom on 17 June 1914. The hereditary Dukedom of Cumberland and Teviotdale and the Earldom of Armagh, borne in 1917 by his paternal great-grandfather, were suspended under the Titles Deprivation Act 1917. However, the title Royal Prince of Great Britain and Ireland had been entered into the family's German passports, together with the German titles, in 1914. After the German Revolution of 1918–19, with the abolishment of nobility's privileges, titles officially became parts of the last name. So, curiously, the British prince's title is still part of the family's last name in their German passports, while it is no longer mentioned in their British documents.
On 29 August 1931, Ernst August's grandfather Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick, as head of the House of Hanover, declared the formal resumption, for himself and his dynastic descendants, of use of his former British princely title as a secondary title of pretense, which style, "Royal Prince of Great Britain and Ireland", his grandson Ernst August continues to claim. As heir of the last Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale and Earl of Armagh, Ernst August has the right to petition under the Titles Deprivation Act 1917 for the restoration of his ancestors' suspended British peerages, but he has not done so. His father, also called Ernst August, did, however, successfully claim British nationality after World War II by virtue of a hitherto overlooked (and since repealed) provision of the Sophia Naturalization Act 1705 (Attorney-General v HRH Prince Ernest Augustus of Hanover [1957] 1 All ER 49). However, a problem arose as foreign royal titles can't be entered into a British passport. Therefore, the titles Prince of Hanover, Duke of Brunswick and Lüneburg could not be mentioned there, nor could the British titles due to the Titles Deprivation Act of 1917. The name which was finally entered into his father's British documents, was thus Ernest Augustus Guelph, with the addition of His Royal Highness. Guelph is thus also the British last name of Ernst August and accordingly of his siblings and children, all styled Royal Highnesses in the United Kingdom.
Ernst August is also a great-grandson of the last German emperor, Emperor Wilhelm II. His father's sister was Frederica of Hanover, sometime queen consort of the Hellenes, and he is thus a first cousin of both ex-King Constantine II and his sister, Queen Sophia, whose husband Juan Carlos I abdicated his throne in favour of their son, Felipe VI of Spain in 2014. Ernst August's uncle, Prince George William of Hanover, married Princess Sophie of Greece and Denmark, a sister of the future royal consort Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, evoking in 1946 the only known case of a British monarch, George VI, withholding requested permission for a kinsman's marriage under the Royal Marriages Act 1772 (on the advice of his Government as a result of World War II's hostilities). It was held by British officials at the time that the marriage and its issue would not be legitimate in the United Kingdom despite being legal in Germany.
By a 24 August 1981 declaration issued by his father as the Head of House, pursuant to Chapter 3, §§ 3 and 5 of the House laws of 1836, Ernst August was authorised to marry dynastically, and did firstly marry, civilly on 28 August 1981 and religiously on 30 August 1981, Chantal Hochuli, the daughter and heiress of a Swiss real estate developer. They had two sons: Prince Ernst August Andreas Philipp Constantin Maximilian Rolf Stephan Ludwig Rudolph (born 19 July 1983) Prince Christian Heinrich Clemens Paul Frank Peter Welf Wilhelm-Ernst Friedrich Franz (born 1 June 1985) Ernst August and Chantal Hochuli divorced on 23 October 1997.
He married secondly, civilly in Monaco on 23 January 1999, Princess Caroline of Monaco, who was at the time expecting the birth of their child: Princess Alexandra Charlotte Ulrike Maryam Virginia (born 20 July 1999)
As he was born in the male line of George II of Great Britain, he sought permission to marry pursuant to the British Royal Marriages Act 1772, which would not be repealed until the Succession to the Crown Act 2013 took effect on 26 March 2015. On 11 January 1999, Queen Elizabeth II issued a Declaration in Council, "My Lords, I do hereby declare My Consent to a Contract of Matrimony between His Royal Highness Prince Ernst August Albert of Hanover, Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg and Her Serene Highness Princess Caroline Louise Marguerite of Monaco..." Without the Royal Assent, the marriage would have been void in Britain where Ernst August's family owns property and his lawful descendants remain in succession to both the British crown and the two suspended peerages. Similarly the Monégasque court officially notified the government of France of Caroline's marriage to Ernst August, receiving assurance that there was no objection in compliance with the (since defunct) Franco-Monegasque Treaty of 1918. Moreover, in order for Caroline to retain her claim to the throne of Monaco and to transmit succession rights to future offspring, the couple were also obliged to obtain the approval of yet a third nation, in the form of official consent to the marriage of Caroline's father, Prince Rainier III as the sovereign of Monaco.
Nonetheless, Caroline was a Roman Catholic and Ernst August the heir male of George III when the couple wed, at which time a provision of the Act of Settlement 1701 stipulated that in the event the British crown is to devolve upon an heir married to "a Papist", that heir is permanently disabled from succeeding to the throne, which would pass instead to the next Protestant in the order of succession who had not been married to a Roman Catholic. The Succession to the Crown Act 2013 repealed that marital restriction (also embodied in the Bill of Rights 1689), with retroactive effect, as of 26 March 2015.
Ernst August's younger brother Prince Ludwig Rudolph of Hanover and his wife, Princess Isabella of Hanover (1962–1988), died tragically. On 28 November 1988, while authorities removed Princess Isabella's body from The Queen's Villa in Gmunden, Austria, a house owned by Ernst August which he had left to his brother and sister-in-law, and investigated the drug strewn scene, Ludwig Rudolph, distraught over his wife's apparently accidental cocaine overdose, placed a call to his brother in London, imploring him to take care of the couple's 10-month-old son. Then he fled. Hours later Ludwig Rudolph was found dead, apparently a victim of suicide, near his family's hunting lodge several miles away, on Lake Traun.Custody of their infant son Otto Heinrich was eventually awarded, contrary to the expressed wishes of Ludwig Rudolph as the surviving parent and Ernst August's legal efforts, to the child's maternal grandparents, Count Ariprand and Countess Maria von Thurn und Valsassina-Como-Vercelli, to be raised at their family seat, Bleiburg Castle in southern Austria.
After their marriage, Ernst August and Caroline moved to Le Mée-sur-Seine, France, where they had purchased an 18th-century manor house from their friend Karl Lagerfeld. Their daughter went to kindergarten and prep-school there, while the family used Caroline's house in Monte Carlo and Ernst August's hunting lodge near Gmunden, Austria, as secondary homes. In September 2009 it was reported in the French and English press that Ernst August has been living separately from his wife Caroline, who had returned to Monaco while he moved to Austria. The manor house in France was subsequently sold, just as had been Hurlingham Lodge in London, after the divorce from his first wife.
He was photographed urinating on the Turkish Pavilion at the Expo 2000 event in Hanover, causing a diplomatic incident and a complaint from the Turkish embassy accusing him of insulting the Turkish people. He successfully sued those who published (Bild-Zeitung) the photograph for invasion of privacy, obtaining an award of 9,900 euros, although the paper had previously published a photo of Ernst August urinating outside a hospital in Austria.
In 2004, he was convicted of aggravated assault and causing grievous bodily harm after supposedly beating a man with a knuckleduster. He has demanded a retrial for the case on the basis of false evidence. His lawyers have publicly stated that he has never owned a knuckleduster in his life nor held one in his hand.
In 2004, Ernst August had signed over his German property to his elder son, including Marienburg Castle, the agricultural estate of Calenberg Castle, the "Princely House" at Herrenhausen Gardens in Hanover and some forests near Blankenburg Castle (Harz) which he had re-purchased in former East Germany after the German reunification of 1990. At the time, Ernst-August’s wealth was estimated as high as $250 million. Since then, the younger Ernst August has taken over many representative tasks on behalf of his father. The latter remained in charge of the Austrian family assets.
In 2013 however, Ernst August was removed from the chairmanship of a family foundation based in Liechtenstein which holds the properties near Gmunden in Austria, the Hanovers' main residence in exile after 1866 when their Kingdom of Hanover was annexed by Prussia. Instead, the younger Ernst August was put in charge, reportedly for negligence on part of his father, at the initiative of the foundation's trustee Prince Michael of Liechtenstein. The foundation manages vast forests, a game park, a hunting lodge, the Queen's Villa and other property. In 2017 Ernst August filed legal action to recover his chairmanship, and he intends to revoke the bestowal of his German property. Due to this dispute over family assets, he also declared his intention to withhold consent for his son's marriage to Ekaterina Malysheva which he did not attend.
On Monday, 3 April 2005, Ernst August was admitted to hospital with acute pancreatitis. The next day, he fell into a deep coma, two days before the death of his father-in-law, Rainier III, Prince of Monaco. On Friday, 8 April 2005, hospital officials reported that he was no longer in a coma but remained in intensive care. A report the same day on BBC World described his condition as "serious but not irreversible." On 9 April 2005, according to a report on BBC, a hospital spokesman reported that Ernst August was receiving "permanent medical care." After his release he was subsequently seen in public with his wife. In an interview he admitted at the time that his health crisis was caused by his hyperactive lifestyle and problems with alcohol

Unprincipled, octogenarian Scottish noble Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat was beheaded on April 9th 1747.
Now I do admit to having Jacobite tendencies myself, but in war, and indeed in life there are always good guys and bad guys on both sides, and Lord Lovat definitely fell into the latter of these two, he was given the nickname The Fox, such was his slyness.
During the '15 uprising played both sides of the Hanover-Stuart intrigue, ingratiating himself with both Jacobites and Hanoverian's, he was so much into their good books in London George I was Godfather to one of his sons. Born in obscurity, around 1667, Simon Fraser was merely second son of a second son. He should never have been chief. Yet, before he was twenty, a series of untimely deaths propelled him to the top of the family tree.
Within months, in one of those twists and turns that ruled his fate, he had been accused of raping a marquis’s daughter to accept his hand in marriage, and unjustly juggled out of his inheritance. Was he going to give up, let Murray and Mackenzie predators carve up the Frasers and their hereditary clan lands, and make them disappear for ever? No, he was not. He did what it took to survive, then thrived at the head of his clan from 1715-1745.
When the Jacobites decided to double down on doomed risings in 1745, this wily knave finally managed to commit himself to the wrong team at the wrong time. Hey, everyone should be allowed one fatal mistake every 80 years or so.
Lovat was so infirm by the time Prince Charles arrived in Scotland, so much so at times he had to be borne on a litter, a old type of transport similar to a sedan. However his military acumen would have been worth the rebels’ while had they possessed the muscle to get into a fair fight. Lord Lovat was captured in the undignified circumstance of being stashed in a tree, one source tells us.....
He could neither walk, nor ride, as he was almost helpless; he was deaf, purblind, eighty years of age, ignorant of English law, and it was therefore not a matter of surprise that the high-born tribes, who thronged to his trial, were disappointed in the brilliancy of his parts, and in the readiness of his wit. “I see little of parts in him,” observes Walpole. nor attributed much to that cunning for which he is so famous; it might catch wild Highlanders.” … It appeared, indeed, doubtful in what form death would seize him first, and whether disease and age might not cheat the scaffold of its victim.
It's true to say in this case, only the good die young!
Here is a description of the events of this day in 1747......
On the morning fixed for his execution, 9th of April, 1747, Lord Lovat, who was now in his eightieth year, and very large and unwieldy in his person, awoke at about three o'clock, and was heard to pray with great devotion. At five o'clock he arose, and asked for a glass of wine-and-water, and at eight o'clock he desired that his wig might be sent, that the barber might have time to comb it out genteelly, and he then provided himself with a purse to hold the money which he intended for the executioner. At about half-past nine o'clock he ate heartily of minced veal, and ordered that his friends might be provided with coffee and chocolate, and at eleven o'clock the sheriffs came to demand his body. He then requested his friends to retire while he said a short prayer; but he soon called them back, and said that he was ready.
When his lordship was going up the steps to the scaffold, assisted by two warders, he looked round, and, seeing so great a concourse of people, " God save us," says he, " why should there be such a bustle about taking off an old grey head, that cannot get up three steps without three bodies to support it ? " Turning about, and observing one of his friends much dejected, he clapped him on the shoulder, saying: "Cheer up thy heart, man! I am not afraid; why should you be so? " As soon as he came upon the scaffold he asked for the executioner, and presented him with ten guineas in a purse, and then, desiring to see the axe, he felt the edge and said he " believed it would do." Soon after, he rose from the chair which was placed for him and looked at the inscription on his coffin, and on sitting down again he repeated from Horace:
" Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori " and afterwards from Ovid: "Nam genus et proavos, et qux non fecimus ipsi, Vix ea nostra voco."
He then desired all the people to stand off, except his two warders, who supported his lordship while he said a prayer; after which he called his solicitor and agent in Scotland, Mr W. Fraser, and, presenting his gold-headed cane, said, " I deliver you this cane in token of my sense of your faithful services, and of my committing to you all the power I have upon earth," and then embraced him. He also called for Mr James Fraser, and said: " My dear James, I am going to heaven ; but you must continue to crawl a little longer in this evil world." And, taking leave of both, he delivered his hat, wig and clothes to Mr William Fraser, desiring him to see that the executioner did not touch them. He ordered his cap to be put on, and, unloosing his neckcloth and the collar of his shirt, knelt down at the block, and pulled the cloth which was to receive his head close to him. But, being placed too near the block, the executioner desired him to remove a little farther back, which with the warders' assistance was immediately done; and, his neck being properly placed, he told the executioner he would say a short prayer and then give the signal by dropping his handkerchief.
In this posture he remained about half-a- minute, and then, on throwing his handkerchief on the floor, the executioner at one blow cut off his head, which was received in the cloth, and, with his body was put into the coffin and carried in a hearse back to the Tower, where it was interred near the bodies of the other lords.
The Old Fox's story did not end there, for centuries there has been claims his body was spirited away for the Tower and to the family crypt at Wardlaw Mausoleum at Kirkhill, near Inverness, a couple of years ago the coffin wwas opened to reveal a headless skeleton, further fuelling the story, however an expert inspected the body and revealed it to be that of a female, it seems Lord Lovat is indeed still interred under the Tower in London with many more who lost their lives at nearby Tower Hilll.

The best royal tiaras: Meghan Markle, Princess Diana and Kate Middleton's bridal jewels and their history - Evening Standard
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hottest luxury and A List news
As the ultimate jewellery status symbol, tiaras are mostly the reserve of royalty and aristocrats. Heirloom pieces passed down from generation-to-generation, each tiara has a history as rich as its design.
There’s a few youll probably recognise, like Queen Elizabeth II’s Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara (which appears on British currency) as well as the Cartier creation Kate Middleton picked for her wedding day in 2011. But royal families on the continent have some pretty spectacular tiaras of their own, featuring gobstopper-sized sapphires and exquisite botanical motifs.
British royal dress code rules dictate that only married women can wear tiaras. As etiquette expert Grant Harrold told the BBC, “for married ladies [a tiara was traditionally] a sign of status and would show you were taken and not looking for a husband. For the gentleman it was a clear sign not to make advances towards the lady in question.”
Last year Meghan Markle’s wedding sparked a bridal tiara trend. After the ceremony, Debenhams reported that searches on their site for “bridal tiara” climbed by 117%, as people sought a bit of (affordable) headgear for their own big day.
Here’s some of the most breathtaking tiaras worn by royal women. If we had one of these we wouldn’t take it off – even in the bath.
Meghan Markle’s Wedding Tiara: The Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Meghan Markle, Queen Mary
There was speculation over which tiara bride-to-be Meghan Markle would choose to wear on her wedding day – if she chose to wear one at all. While some people put money on her wearing Princess Diana’s beloved Spencer tiara, in the end she opted for the Queen Mary Bandeau Tiara.
The tiara was loaned to Meghan by Queen Elizabeth for her nuptials to Prince Harry, which took place in May last year. Before the Duchess of Sussex wore it on her big day, the tiara hadn’t been worn in 65 years. It was previously worn and well loved by Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother.
(Getty Images)
Like a lot of royal tiaras, it has a dual purpose. The centrepiece is also a brooch, which was given to Queen Mary on her wedding day. Set with ten massive diamonds, the brooch is detachable, and the band can be adjusted in size as it’s made up of eleven different sections.
If you look closely at Meghan’s wedding day photos, you might notice the base of the tiara is wrapped in a thin strip of black velvet. Royal jewellery blog Order of Splendor say that this was added for the wedding day so that the tiara “disappeared into her hair“.
Kate Middleton’s Wedding Tiara: The Cartier Halo Tiara
(AFP/Getty Images)
Worn by: Kate Middleton
This tiara became famous when Kate Middleton wore it to marry Prince William. It was first bought in 1936 by King George VI, who gave it to his wife Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) as a gift.
The tiara is set with over 1000 diamonds (739 brilliant-cut diamonds and 149 baguette diamonds). The Royal Collection Trust also add that it was crafted as a “band of 16 graduated scrolls”.
(Getty Images)
Although other royals have re-worn their wedding tiaras, Kate has yet to wear the Cartier Halo Tiara again. That might be because it’s been something of a hot ticket since the wedding, exhibited in 2011 at Buckingham palace (above) and at a 2018 Cartier exhibition in Australia.
Princess Eugenie’s Wedding Tiara: The Greville Kokoshnik Emerald Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Princess Eugenie
For her nuptials to Jack Brooksbank, Queen Elizabeth let her granddaughter borrow the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara. According to the Royal Family’s official website, it was crafted by Boucheron in the “kokoshnik style popularised in the Russian Imperial Court” and was made for Dame Margaret Greville (who left it to Queen Elizabeth II).
The central emerald is apparently 93.7 carats (yes, you read that right – 93), set in a platinum band with brilliant and rose cut diamonds. According to a royal biography by Robert Jobson, the tiara was rumoured to be Meghan Markle’s first choice for her wedding, but the Queen reportedly preferred she wore one that did not have links to Russia.
Princess Diana’s Wedding Tiara: Spencer Tiara
(Graham Harrison/REX/Shutterstock)
Worn by: Princess Diana, Celia McCorquodale
This tiara isn’t technically a royal piece but still deserves a spot in the hall of fame. When Lady Diana married Prince Charles, she paid homage to her own family with the Spencer Tiara. The piece had been in the family for decades and had gone through many changes, as the family added a topper and extended the ends of the tiara with other pieces in their jewellery collection. By the 1930s, it was fully complete and many women of the Spencer family have worn it on their wedding day ever since.
If you look closely, you’ll see that the silver tiara’s many diamonds are set in tulips, scrolls and other floral patterns. After Diana’s death, the tiara hadn’t been seen in public for years until Princess Diana’s niece Celia McCorquodale wore it for her own wedding last June.
The Lover’s Knot Tiara
(REX/Shutterstock)
Worn by: Princess Diana, Kate Middleton, Queen Mary
The Lover’s Knot Tiara is one of the most famous pieces in the royal vault, and was one of Princess Diana’s favourites. The Court Jeweller reports that the tiara was actually created from another piece called the Ladies of England tiara by Queen Mary, who later passed it down to Queen Elizabeth II.
(Getty Images)
Apparently Princess Diana was supposed to wear the tiara as her something borrowed on her wedding day, but instead chose to wear her family’s Spencer Tiara. After Diana passed away the tiara disappeared from the public eye, until Kate Middleton wore it in 2015 for a state banquet. The tiara is made up of diamonds and hanging pearls set in silver and gold. It was reportedly so heavy it used to give Princess Diana headaches.
The Greville Tiara (Boucheron Honeycomb Tiara)
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Queen Mother, Duchess of Cornwall
This is one of the most architectural pieces on the list and was one of the Queen Mother’s favourites – she chose to wear it for an official portrait. Also known as the Boucheron Honeycomb Tiara, this piece was originally created by Boucheron for Dame Margaret Greville, the same woman who owned Princess Eugenie’s wedding tiara.
After Greville (a close friend of Queen Mary) passed away, the tiara was passed onto the Queen Mother who wore it out constantly and even had extra diamonds added to the top row, according to Order of Splendor.
(Getty Images)
Since then, the Queen has loaned it to her daughter-in-law Camilla Parker-Bowles. She’s been seen wearing it to numerous official events, from a state banquet back in 2013 through to an appearance in Sri Lanka in 2017.
The Prussian Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Queen Letizia of Spain, Queen Sofia of Spain
If Megara from Hercules ever got to wear a tiara, it would surely be this one. This brilliant diamond tiara belongs to the Spanish royal family and is well loved by Queen Letizia, who wore it on her wedding day. With Grecian motifs and laurel leaf details, it’s the teardrop pendant in the middle that catches the viewer’s eye.
(AFP/Getty Images)
It was made originally for Princess Victoria Louise of Prussia for her wedding in 1913 to Prince Ernst August of Hanover, whose daughter Friederike eventually married into the Greek royal family. It finally passed into the hands of the Spanish royal family when Princess Sofia of Prussia married future Spanish King Juan Carlos in 1962, bringing the tiara with her.
The Dutch Sapphire Parure Tiara
(Hollandse Hoogte/REX/Shutterstock)
For King Wilhelm-Alexander’s inauguration in 2013 the Dutch royals’ stepped out in their finery. Queen Maxima wore the incredible Dutch Sapphire Parure Tiara, matching her outfit to its striking blues. According to the Natural Sapphire Company, the piece is made up of 33 blue sapphires and 655 diamonds set in platinum in a distinctly Gothic style.
(Getty Images)
The tiara in its complete form actually features a tall plumed point, which Queen Maxima chose to swap it out with a big round diamond to match the others on the tiara. Queen Maxima has worn it several times since – we don’t blame her.
The Hanoverian Floral Tiara
(Getty Images)
The Hanoverian Floral Tiara has become a go-to for women marrying into the Hanover royal family. According to Tatler, the tiara is believed to date back to the 1900s and as with the Spencer tiara depicts a series of intertwined florals. The tiara was seen as recently as 2018, when Alessandra de Osma married Prince Christian of Hanover in Peru.
Ekaterina Malysheva (Getty Images)
The tiara also made a public appearance the year before, when Ekaterina Malysheva maried Hereditary Prince Ernst August of Hanover. The always elegant Princess Caroline has also been seen in the tiara, wearing it back in 2004 for Crown Princess Mary of Denmark’s wedding to Crown Prince Frederik.
Queen Mary’s Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Queen Elizabeth II
Besides having the coolest name, this is Queen Elizabeth’s most iconic tiara. Prior to Elizabeth’s grandmother Queen Mary’s royal wedding in 1893, women around the country from the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland society raised money to commission it. According to Garrard, Queen Mary called it one of her “most valued” gifts. It’s certainly valuable, with elaborate diamond peaks set with 13 brilliant diamonds.
(Getty Images)
It was then passed down to Queen Elizabeth II on her wedding day and has become the tiara she’s been pictured wearing the most – it’s even on British currency.
Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Princess Madeleine and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden
This stunning blue tiara is one of the many masterpieces in the Swedish royal collection. As with the emerald Greville tiara, it follows the Russian kokoshnik style with sky blue aquamarine gems set in diamonds.
(Getty Images)
The tiara has been worn more recenty by Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine, who both opted to wear it at the lavish Nobel Prize banquet – on different years. Both women opted to wear dresses in a matching shade.
Connaught Diamond Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Queen Silvia
Another of the Swedish royal family’s striking pieces, it’s very popular with women in the family. Also known as the Forget-Me-Knot tiara, it features five diamond loops with a delicate detachable pendant.
(Getty Images)
Princess Madeleine wore it when she attended the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria in 2010, while Victoria also re-wore it last year for the annual Nobel Prize banquet in Stockholm.
Queen Elizabeth’s Wedding Day Tiara: Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara
(Associated Newspapers/Daily Mail/REX/Shutterstock)
Worn by: Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Mary
On her wedding day in 1947 Queen Elizabeth II’s hairdresser accidentally snapped the tiara in half just hours before her wedding to Prince Charles. Luckily, there was a court jeweller on standby and the tiara was taken via police escort to the diamond jewellers at Garrard who helped repair it in the nick of time.
The tiara was crafted in 1919 for Queen Mary – made from diamonds taken from a necklace. According to the Telegraph, the tiara is formed of “47 diamond bars separated by smaller diamond spikes” and set in gold and silver.
Stuart Diamond Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Queen Maxima of the Netherlands
Queen Maxima’s 2018 visit to the UK was historical in more ways than one, as she brought her best jewels with her: namely, the Stuart Diamond Tiara. It was the first time in 36 years that a Dutch royal had officially visited the UK and all eyes were on the giant rock in the centre of Queen Maxima’s tiara.
(Getty Images)
Apparently the tiara was first purchased in 1690 when King William III bought it for his wife Queen Mary II. Apparently, it was unusual at the time for people to wear jewellery featuring gigantic diamonds as it was “common practice” that they were cut into two instead.
Wondering how big the diamond is? It’s apparently 39.75 carats.
The Poltimore Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Princess Margaret
Princess Margaret was one of the most stylish royals of her time and on her wedding day to Antony Armstrong-Jones in 1960, she pulled out all the stops. Not content with the collection already in the royal arsenal, HRH went out and bought a new tiara at auction in 1949 for £5,500: the Poltimore Tiara.
The tiara was originally made for Lady Poltimore and dates back to 1870.
(AFP/Getty Images)
Margaret wore the crown-like tiara for her wedding day, which featured a “graduated line of cushion-shaped and old-cut diamond clusters alternating with diamond-set scroll motifs” set in “silver and gold”.
Controversially, the tiara was sold at auction at Christie’s in 2006 where it was estimated to go for between £150,000-£200,000. In the end it blew far way past this estimate, selling for £926,400 to a private Asian buyer.
The Cut Steel Tiara
(Getty Images)
Worn by: Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden
This tiara is one of Crown Princess Victoria’s favourites. It’s also one of the most unusual on the list. While you’ll find diamonds and emeralds for days on the other pieces, you won’t find a single gemstone on the Cut Steel tiara.
The clue’s in the name as the cut steel technique used on the tiara is what makes it sparkle. According to Laelius Antiques, jewellers employed “steel-faceted studs to create a beautiful, dazzling diamond effect”. According to antique dealers 1st Dibs, “cut steel became popular in the 18th century as a substitute for diamonds, the pieces carefully faceted to reflect the light of candles.”
(Getty Images)
Here, you can see that it’s been expertly crafted to create a nature motif with little acorns and leaves. It’s also inlaid in a gold setting and is said to have been originally made for Queen Hortense of Holland in the early Nineteenth Century, before it was brought over to Sweden.

Key
Bold names=Queen Victoria’s children
Strike through=deceased and I feel like I’ve gotten to the bottom of their line, and eventually, 20,000 years from now when I feel like I’m done with this list, I’ll delete it-after all, this is the list of Queen Victoria’s LIVING descendants.
* Descendants are already listed elsewhere on this list or the ones who would follow said person Ex:  Mark Nicholas van Eyck should be followed by  Princess Dorothea of Hesse but she and her descendants are also descended elsewhere. Another example is Queen Elizabeth II & The Duke of Edinburgh’s descendants. Or the descendants of Princess Sibulla of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha (Sweden)
** I’ve seen reports that she died in 2002, but no obituary. Any ideas?
Bold and Italics together on one name denotes this person is presently the eldest and longest lived person of Queen Victoria (The Duke of Edinburgh)

On This Day In History . 7th January 1796 . Princess Charlotte of Wales was born at Carlton House, London. . . About Charlotte ; . Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales was the only child of George, Prince of Wales (later to become King George IV) & Caroline of Brunswick. . ◼ Had she outlived both her grandfather King George III & her father, she would have become Queen of the United Kingdom, but she died following childbirth at the age of 21. . ◼ Charlotte's parents disliked each other from before their arranged marriage & soon separated. The Prince of Wales left most of Charlotte's care to governesses & servants, but only allowed her limited contact with the Princess of Wales, who eventually left the country. . ◼ As Charlotte grew to adulthood, her father pressured her to marry William, Hereditary Prince of Orange (later King of the Netherlands), but after initially accepting him, Charlotte soon broke off the intended match. This resulted in an extended contest of wills between her & her father, & finally the Prince of Wales permitted her to marry Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (later King of the Belgians). After a year & a half of happy marriage, Charlotte died on 6 November 1817 after giving birth to a stillborn son. . ◼ Charlotte's death set off tremendous mourning among the British, who had seen her as a sign of hope & a contrast both to her unpopular father & to her grandfather, whom they deemed mad. . ◾ As she had been King George III's only legitimate grandchild, there was considerable pressure on the King's unmarried sons to find wives. King George III's fourth son, Edward, Duke of Kent, fathered the eventual heir, Victoria, who was born 18 months after Charlotte's death. . . . #OnThisDayInHistory #History #Heritage #TheYear1796 #HouseofHanover #Thisdayinhistory #PrincessCharlotte #CharlotteofWales #PrincessCharlotteofWales #Princess #Monarchy #Royalty #Britishroyals #Hanover #HistoryFacts #London #GeorgeIV #CarolineofBrunswick ##D7Jan #BritishMonarchy (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsVbalVlKD_/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ubazg6wo00nj

who: british line of succession
Succession to the British throne is determined by descent, gender, legitimacy, and religion. Under common law, the crown is inherited by an individual's children and by a childless individual's nearest collateral line. The Bill of Rights 1689 and the Act of Settlement 1701, both of them as amended in March 2015, restrict the succession to the legitimate Protestant descendants of Sophia of Hanover that are in "communion with the Church of England” (while marrying to Roman Catholics no longer disqualifies). Protestant descendants of those excluded for being Catholics are eligible to succeed.
The United Kingdom is one of the 16 Commonwealth realms. Each of those countries has the same person as monarch and the same order of succession. In 2011, the prime ministers of the realms agreed unanimously to adopt a common approach to amending the rules on the succession to their respective Crowns so that absolute primogeniture would apply for persons born after the date of the agreement, instead of male-preference primogeniture, and the ban on marriages to Roman Catholics would be lifted. The ban on Catholics themselves was retained to ensure that the monarch would be in communion with the Church of England. After the necessary legislation had been enacted in accordance with each realm's constitution, the changes took effect on 26 March 2015.

Note on members of the Royal House and Family of Mecklenburg:
The first King, Heinrich Ludwig I was a descendant of George II through his mother, and of George I through his father, with his mother having the superior claim. Heinrich Ludwig’s wife was also a descendant of George I but as a Roman Catholic, Karola was excluded from succession. Heinrich Ludwig lost his place in the line of succession following his marriage to a Roman Catholic. Heinrich Ludwig and Karola’s children were placed in the line of succession after their father as he had the superior claim.
The second King, Paul Friedrich II, married Duchess Thyra of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, a descendant of George III, with a more senior claim, therefore the children of Paul Friedrich and Thyra were placed in the line of succession after their mother.
The third King, Wilhelm Franz I, married Princess Eleonora of Leiningen, a descendant of Queen Victoria but as that descent is through the unapproved marriage of Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich of Russia, Eleonora cannot claim her place in the line of succession through that marriage. Instead, Eleonora is in the line of succession to the British throne as a descendant of Frederick, Prince of Wales. Wilhelm Franz has the more senior claim as descendant of George III and thus his children follow him in the line of succession.
The second son of Paul Friedrich II, Prince Albrecht Gustav, married Veronica Doncaster, who has no claim to the British throne and thus their children follow their father.
The eldest daughter of Paul Friedrich II, Princess Heinrike Franziska is unmarried and without issue.
The second daughter of Paul Friedrich II, Princess Elisabeth Mathilde, married Prince Rupprecht of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, a descendant of Queen Victoria and thus their children follow their father in the line of succession to the British throne. Princess Elisabeth Mathilde’s descendants have the most senior position of the Mecklenburgers in the British line of succession as they are descended from Queen Victoria’s second son, Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
The third daughter of Paul Friedrich II, Princess Marie Anastasia, married Prince Heinrich of Hesse-Kassel, who had a more senior claim as a descendant of Queen Victoria through her eldest daughter, thereby the children of Marie Anastasia and Heinrich follow their father in the line of succession.
The fourth daughter of Paul Friedrich II, Princess Cecilie Auguste, married Hereditary Prince Michael of Schwarzburg, a descendant of George I of the United Kingdom. As Cecilie Auguste has a more senior claim as a descendant of George III, their children follow their mother in the line of succession.
Princess Marie Elisabeth, daughter of Heinrich Ludwig I, married Prince Gorm of Denmark, who also descended from George II but as Marie Elisabeth had the more senior claim, their children followed after her instead of him. Their grandchildren by their daughter, Feodora, are excluded from the British line of succession as they are Roman Catholic.
