Volkswagen Descends Into Irrelevance As Band-Aid Measures Can't Cure Its Severe Illnesses - autoevolution
It is the combination and it's German engineering and people trusted it back then and it's more trusted now and I'm rethinking the Volkswagen bug and we can do it with a Dodge later but this is probably how it should start and the MR2 is a special it's a good idea and the speed package it'll really go fast but this is probably how it should go and people are all saying just saying the bug and then they're saying this and now they're saying the bug again so it worked last time and it was like this code so it's going on now and they're trying to figure out what to do and it is coming out that the bug is supposed to be the one and they're going to work through it yeah that's what they want to do and it will start this process off so his son and daughter Savage opress they have the designs for the bug and they did pull the front up a little and they said it will probably fit on the Dodge subcompacts and really the wheelbase is like 103 it's bigger than 74 and the mr2's small that is a small car it's getting too small it is too small so my her son says there's a Toyota supercar like NAX and you make a smaller one and that's what you do oh he says that's Honda yeah that's the one you make it like that and they've been doing that for years and that particular toy was probably a little bigger and they say yes like 3 in so that's what you do it copy it and it says that's the other side I'm going to get going on this and we have to this is a great idea they're going to go ahead and work it up with the beetle now those are made only up to around 2008 and I made it from 1997 roughly almost the same year as the MR2 and they stopped production and it's coded and stuff but we believe in countering it overcoming it and this is a fact this car with the Volkswagen bug which they have about a hundred and 45 horsepower it would go very fast the stats would be 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds because it's lighter in the chassis is stronger quarter mile and about 7.36 seconds and top speed 280 mph and that's using the stock motor the stock exhaust which we're going to change and it's not changing lunch you'd leave the tires and rims in the interior and he said to come up with that first and I think he's right and he's trying to change it a little but he says that the kit would make it go very fast faster than you want to and it's true that's ridiculous most people will not be able to go that fast or handle it yet the car can and there's no reason to modify anything if you don't have to and the interior looks okay and there's an option to take the rear seat out it is true no you really have to take it out it won't fit I can't believe how cool this is this idea is terrific of bringing it back it's not a huge idea but it's pretty big and Volkswagens are front-wheel drive and you can put a decent tire if someone aggressive and still be able to drive in the snow and some other types of terrain people are going to want to do this and they're going to probably start soon but we'll see how it goes
Thor Freya
I want to get this going and he says to try putting it together and go to some kind of a car show and it's just like a homemade version and they'll get the shape and it's going to be VW and I'm going to do that
And he says it'll be like the John Cena car but it won't be like this high tech thing and I might have some people trying take 3d pictures and they have those and they can translate it so they want it out there
Savage opress
There are a lot of operable beetle cars tons of them and they all have decent rims and tires and we'd have to have a different body if you have different rims and tires you almost want to because you want to make the rear end come out a little and you can do it with a tire a little bit but not much so you have to think about that and he says not too much because you can make the body designed around what the bug is and that's what it looks like you could and we will and we did design it like that so it sticks out even though it doesn't really it's really cool and it's a good idea
Thor Freya
I said the top part but yeah this is right too
Savage oppress
Olympus
I get into this and get it going this is great

Germany: The EU Should not Erect Trade Barriers Against China
Source: Gasgoo
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has spoken out against EU restrictions on car trade with China as the EU prepares to impose tariffs on electric car imports from China.
Scholz said on June 8 that the German auto industry was benefiting from business in China and would be able to compete with Asian countries’ automakers if Sino-European trade remained “fair and free.”
The European Union is expected to announce tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles this month, following an investigation into Chinese subsidies. If China takes countermeasures, it will hit German automakers such as Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and BMW hardest.

Speaking at an event organized by Stellantis subsidiary Opel in Ruesselsheim, Germany, Scholz said: “Isolation and illegal tariff barriers only end up making everything more expensive and everyone poorer.” We will not close our market to foreign companies and we do not want our companies to face similar challenges.”
Germany’s powerful auto industry opposes tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, saying business with China could boost employment in Germany. Former Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said earlier this month that escalating trade frictions would fuel inflation and delay the electrification transition.
The looming decision on tariffs comes at a time when growth in electric vehicle sales in Europe is slowing, prompting automakers including Volkswagen and Mercedes to adjust their plans for new electric models.
Scholz said the German auto industry should continue its transition to pure electric vehicles to ensure it can remain competitive in the coming years as well. “Doubting progress and delaying renewal and change will have painful consequences. If we do that, others will overtake us.”

VW Group is concentrating on software that will be used next year in the Porsche electric-Macan and Audi Q6 e-tron. The next generation technology will come later, Chief Financial Officer Arno Antlitz said. LONDON -- Volkswagen Group's Cariad plans to bring its delayed 2.0 software platform to market in 2027 or 2028 after the launches of key new electric models from Porsche and Audi. The original launch date for the sophisticated software platform, which will allow Level 4 autonomous driving, was 2025 but its development has been hit by delays and overspending at Cariad since the software unit was set up by former VW Group CEO Herbert Diess. VW Group will first concentrate on its Software 1.2 platform, which will be rolled out starting next year in premium all-electric models including the Porsche e-Macan and Audi Q6 e-tron, Chief Financial Officer Arno Antlitz said. "There will be great cars on that platform... that gives us a little flexibility to postpone 2.0 to 2027, 2028," Antlitz said at the Financial Times Future of the Car conference on Thursday. Intel unit Mobileye will supply its SuperVision "eyes on, hands off" semi-autonomous driving package to Porsche models using the Software 1.2 platform, Mobileye CEO Anmon Shashua told Automotive News Europe. The electric Macan and Q6 e-tron have been delayed because the 2.0 software they were originally supposed to use is not ready. Both models are crucial to position VW's premium brands at the forefront of EV technology. The problems have also pushed back VW brand's Trinity flagship EV toward the end of the decade. VW Group CEO Oliver Blume is shaking up Cariad. He has appointed Bentley production chief Peter Bosch to lead the software unit from June 1, replacing Dirk Hilgenberg, who will be given other tasks within VW Group. Two software experts will join Cariad's management board alongside Bosch. "This will be a very strong team that focuses on the turnaround of Cariad," Antlitz said. The aim was to rely more on outside partners and do less in-house to reduce cash burn as the carmaker attempts to build up its software expertise, he said. VW Group's ultimate goal is a unified software and electronics architecture for all group vehicles. It will rely on Qualcomm "system on a chip" semiconductors in Europe and North America, and in China will use super-chips developed with Chinese partner Horizon Robotics. SOURCE

Herbert Diess was right : Ionity sucks
Back from a 1200 km trip from Luxembourg to Normandy (France) on a BMW i4 40.
Yes, such a trip is possible with an electric car, with little hassle. In my humble opinion, it is even easier than with a petrol one : electric cars make almost no noise and especially no vibration. Concretely, you arrive in much better shape.
We had two stops on our way (one would have been sufficient, but I wanted more juice to go and visit the Overlord beaches).
On the way back, we decided to take another route : instead of driving south, direction Reims, we aim for Amiens, Arras, then across Belgium. An important detail : it was pouring all the way.
Around Arras, the electricity is running out. The car tells us that there is as FastNed station nearby and we aim for it. Oh, what a nice surprise : four columns, i.e. 8 plugs, and above all a roof above us. Clear instructions and in no time the Beemer starts loading. That’s professional, that’s the 21st century.
At 80%, we want to disconnect : no instructions, nowhere. A quick call to the Help Desk tells us that we need to pass the card a 2nd time in front of the reader. Indeed, a virtual stop button appears on the screen. Depress the physical button below and voilà...
Tumblr media
Nice and fortunate problem : the time searching for the disconnect solution and calling the Help Desk, the battery was stuffed up to 90%, which will help us later on.
Indeed, in order to come home safely, the navigation system instructs us to have another 5′ charge at a Ionity “super”charger (you bet) in Belgium, at the Aire the Thieu.
It was still pouring when we arrived. I connect the car, notice that the columns are different to whichever I had seen wherever, that almost all 4 of them use another language and I try to connect. No way, man, we have no electricity for you... Under the typical Belgian shower, I try using the app, using my card, scanning a QR code. Nothing, sod off.
Meantime, a Hyunday arrives, connects and starts loading. Is there juice for the Koreans and not for the Germans ? We ask the guy for help, he comes and has a look, doesn’t understand either an goes back to Korea.
Tumblr media
... just sucking in the rain...
After half an hour in the rain, and given the remaining autonomy, I decide to drive home on a slower mode and a couple of hours later, we’re home and dry.
Herbert Diess is the former VAG  boss who once got quite p... off by Ionity and made his opinion clear in the press. The guy, a visionary, was right and still is : Ionity sucks. And despite driving a car from a member of the Ionity consortium, I shall now focus on FastNed, for its far superior infrastructure and the excellence of its service.

Volkswagen ID.3 Cabriolet, 2023(?). VW is gauging support for an open-roof version of their electric C-segment hatchback. VW Group CEO Herbert Diess took to Twitter to introduce the concept, asking his followers: "We‘re thinking about an e-convertible, maybe an ID.3 convertible. What do you think?" VW  sales boss Jürgen Stackmann told Autocar  "from a rational side, you would never go into the convertible market" but Autocar points out that the flexibility of the ID 3's MEB architecture means development and manufacturing costs would be lower than with a similarly conceived ICE model

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Herbert Diess believes he has a special obligation to combat the rise of the far right in Europe because the company he leads was once quite literally its engine.
“Volkswagen has because of its history, and our history in the Second World War, we have an obligation to care about anti-Semitism and racism,” the Volkswagen CEO told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in a rare interview this week. “We have more obligation than others. The whole company was built up by the Nazi regime.”
And now, alarmed by the boldness of the extreme right in Europe, Diess is taking action. The automobile manufacturing giant, which sells more cars than anyone else in the world, announced this week that it is funding the return of the Anti-Defamation League to Europe. The venerable Jewish civil rights agency has not had a presence on the continent since the early 2000s. At different times it once had offices in Moscow, Paris and Vienna.
The pick is significant: More than its other U.S. Jewish counterparts, like the American Jewish Committee and the Simon Wiesenthal Center, the ADL in recent years has emphasized above all the threat of violence from the far right. While it continues to speak out against anti-Zionism, the ADL has abjured to a degree the Jewish establishment’s reflexive both-sidesism that adds caveats about leftist anti-Semitism each time it emerges from the right.
True: Volkswagen does have an obligation to fight anti-Semitism.
True: Right-wing anti-Semitism is on the rise.
False: . . . reflexive both-sideism that adds caveats about leftist anti-Semitism . . . “
To ignore the rising Left-wing and Islamic anti-Semitism is to give it a pass. That is stupid and suicidal.
