As much as I hate current Disney and what they are doing, I don't like it when people try to do revisionist history or misinterpretations of the classic movies just for the sake of sticking it at Disney. Those movies were made by people with a passion for storytelling and art. I won't allow people to slander them just because they hate what Disney is doing nowadays. Keep them out of this mess.

More Lodgers! I think Mosley is my favorite of this batch, both pose and design-wise. I'm drawing them in order of introduction, and it's almost like a cool little Easter egg hunt looking for different angles and full-body panels of characters that don't show up a ton.

Thoughts under the cut again
Back at it again with the goggles and gloves! Except for Mr. Griffin which is interesting. Could be for lots of reasons, like pulling descriptions from The Invisible Man, or maybe his work doesn't require a lot of physical risk, or maybe they just didn't want all the Lodgers to feel too samey. He's still aligned with the Lodgers aesthetically through the apron, which Bird also wears. Neat! I'm very entertained by the different types of eyewear too. Some have goggles, some have binoculars, and some have layers of magnifiers like jeweler's glasses (of course I always think of the Toy Story 2 scene). I'm sure some of them have super specialized equipment too, like Maijabi probably has some sort of spectral filter lens or something.
God what I would give to pick Sage Cotugno's brain about some of these designs because I am fascinated by Mosley. They technically didn't have to go through and give each lodger such a strong sense of personality but I adore that they did! Mosley in particular reminds me of Mole from Atlantis, with the scarf and the multi-layered goggles and the digging. And Helsby wouldn't be out of place at the Benbow Inn! Know that I mean this as incredibly high praise, I could talk about the designs in Treasure Planet for days. Point is that both those movies have an incredibly strong visual identity, primarily through the character designs and architecture, and this comic feels the same way to me.
My personal favorite rogue scientist is next up! I love her design so much and I'm so excited to draw her. Also, how in the hell do you end up with "make spy bugs" as your job?? And where can I sign up?? Miss Flowers please

I realize that I've been labeling all the Lodgers as "doctor" but it's entirely possible that some of them probably don't have doctorates. Y'know. The thing that makes you a doctor. Then again Frankenstein dropped out of college and we all call him "Dr" so I don't see why these fine people shouldn't get the same respect! Dunno if this applies to Victoria Frankenstein though. She's crazy enough to have also finished college while all the other shit was happening.
(yes I know that Frankenstein technically had all the knowledge and the expertise and was miles ahead of literally everybody else and only dropped out because he was busy proving that death is merely a temporary state and God means nothing in the face of human ingenuity and all that, but the bastard still didn't graduate and also he's an asshole so I'm gonna pick on him)

I really absolutely love the idea of LoL Jinx being Jinx’s reputation, or maybe even a crazy persona she intentionally projects onto the world, but not how she really is.
There’s this passage from her game bio that hints at smth sinister and mysterious that happened and sets up the question of ‘what made Jinx the way she is?’.
No one knows for certain what happened to turn that sweet young child into a wildcard, infamous for her wanton acts of destruction.
But when she emerges and makes a name for herself as a terrorist the average citizen would only see her cackling as she blows up buildings and wouldn’t care to ponder this question. Well, her LoL behavior fits the stereotype of a crazy woman and it makes sense that in-universe ppl would perceive her like that and nothing more. She’d kinda become a boogeyman to Piltover/Zaun and they’d see her as such, as this exaggerated caricature of 'crazy'.
Ig what I’m trying to say is that we learn the story chronologically but imagine we first meet adult Jinx and then there are reveals or flashbacks. You’d never believe LoL Jinx has this much depth or such a real and tragic aspect to her. It could be a fantastic story on its own. So new characters having this kinda arc with Jinx where they first hear/see the fake persona and then gradually learn the truth about her could be super compelling. I think in a lot of ways it’s way more compelling than e.g. the observant Cait just going back and summing up Jinx to everybody else in Piltover in one sentence like 'her issues are a,b,c' like she watched Arcane alongside us and ig everybody's caught up now, no need to do these revelations through arcs and interactions.
Especially that there’s groundwork for this type of reveals with already established characters like Cait, Vi and Ekko. The story is intentionally constructed so that they don’t have nowhere near as much of an insight into Jinx that we got, like of course Cait would only see her as a psychopath, she investigated her crimes for months, nearly died in the explosion, saw her violent behavior during the reunion and bridge scenes and then got kidnapped and then witnessed her blowing up the government with her mom inside. And this sentiment also applies to everyone who didn’t know Powder and isn’t the audience. But even Vi and Ekko don’t seem to know enough to understand what’s going on. They knew Powder but as far as we know they have next to no interactions with her after she becomes Jinx and mainly just see her from her violent side and also from a distance.
Idk if this comparison makes sense but I get the impression that ppl’s takes on mcu Loki depend on whether they remember the events of Thor 1, and based on that they see him as tormented and complicated or a cartoon psychopath villain. So that’s kinda what I mean. LoL Jinx is if you skipped the set-up movies and went straight into Avengers and Arcane Jinx is if you watched everything chronologically and have full context for a character’s behavior. And while we already know enough to understand why Jinx became Jinx, it’s still a crucial and lingering question cos it’s a questions a lot of characters ponder and they never got that answer in s1. So s2 could explore their perspective, seeing Jinx only behaving like a maniac until finally getting answers to their questions.
Ig my point is that Arcane is clearly going in a different direction so I don't expect or want the characters to end up being identical to their game counterparts but I also find the idea that Jinx masks herself with an exaggerated crazy persona more compelling than the idea that she is perceived by everyone in s2 exactly as she is, even tho a huge part of s1 is how misunderstood she is by everyone around her and how she leans into her strengths and into how ppl perceive her for empowerment.

Being a watcher of anime, I just wanted to say that you've done a fantastic job of handling power creep in your comic. Is that something you think about in writing your fight scenes? Like, are you consciously making sure your characters never get to late DBZ levels of bullshit?
Ho yea, definitely. Stay tuned for January, I've got a video on powerups cooking because this has 100% been on my mind.
Spoilers for that, but my general theory is that power creep is a systemic problem that results from flattening the story's conflict struggle into a linear power vs power clash. This is most obvious in stories that are 100% strength-based with things like numerical metrics of "power level" where the thing that determines who wins the fight is who can get the highest number, but it also applies in stories where the starting premise of every new villain is "none of our tricks work on this guy!" Making the new bad guys too tough or otherwise too immune to the heroes' swiss-army skillsets makes everything feel floaty and pointless until the writer finally takes the limiters off and lets them wack 'em for real. It's frustrating because it's designed to be frustrating for both the characters and the audience, but it's also a trap. It locks the writer into an arms race with themself and also devalues all their increasingly cool ideas by virtue of inflation.
Hell, quick tangent, that's why I'll go to bat for one of the most hated mini-twists in the more recent Dragon Ball movies, when in Resurrection of F, Goku is severely injured by a regular laser pistol because it was a sneak attack in the back he wasn't ready for. Everyone got so mad, because of course he's like eight powerups past Super Saiyan at this point and it feels ludicrous that this could hurt him when Frieza death-beams couldn't, but it added a twist of actual stakes to these literal physical gods by recontextualizing their toughness as requiring awareness, preparedness and training. A sneak attack from a random minion could still take them out! Suddenly this conflict structure wasn't just power vs power, because stealth was a factor that could sidestep that power clash and render all those fancy new forms completely unhelpful.
Writing this story is already kind of a hard-mode thing, because I like making characters that are blatantly quite overpowered. There are things that every one of these protagonists are just too strong or tough or magical or socially powerful to (typically) worry about. Alinua is, frankly, basically never in danger of dying, and if she has time she can do feats of magic on a very large scale that basically can't be matched. Kendal and Falst are strong and tough enough to shrug off or push through physical injuries that could incapacitate or kill the others, and Kendal literally has multiple gods on his side, though that's not always a good or helpful thing. Tess is extremely hard to trap or slow down, and bladed/edged weapons have a lot of trouble with her. Erin is so versatile there are almost no situations where he's legitimately powerless, and he's very good at coming up with plans. Dainix has a one-two punch of a ton of combat training and a super-mode that pops out when he's in serious danger or overly stressed, which in writing-land is basically a get-out-of-danger-free card.
I think the trick is that all of these things are overpowered in specific directions, and they are not so overpowered that they can completely disregard other threats.
Kendal and Falst are not so strong and tough that they can just brute-force their way through, say, an entire city or an army of bad guys, and Tess isn't agile enough to completely run away from everybody, which is why they still need to be strategic when dealing with an enemy city, and why Tess's lack of tactical planning in Zuurith was starting to get her worn down by sheer numbers.
Erin and Alinua are ludicrously powerful, but on a much slower timescale than their teammates, so they're vulnerable to incapacitation by fast and agile opponents - and because of the way their magic works, if they're rendered unable to channel energy - like in the fight in Gleicann's forest - they're completely helpless. Because this is a weakness all mages have, everybody knows about it.
Erin has a high amount of social and political clout, but that means he has to play by a set of rules that basically nobody else does in order to retain that clout. He's dealing with a space of danger and complexities whenever they're dealing with other political powers, and he's doing it completely alone.
Dainix's regular non-Crucible form, despite being a highly trained and capable warrior, is just as vulnerable to physical threats as any normal non-mage human, making him the least prepared for a straight fight - and his Crucible form is barely understood and even harder to control, making it a tool that's very, very risky to rely on. He doesn't yet know what all his abilities are or what they cost him to use, and the first time it happened he was out of commission for weeks, so he knows there's risk attached.
There are always perpendicular threats or environmental factors that can hamper our heroes and feel totally logical in doing so, as long as their powerup is not just narrative shorthand for "okay they can win now." I steer clear of "the power of friendship has given me the boost I needed" because you can do that anywhere in any situation. I caveat'd the hell out of Vash's literal divine intervention in chapter 18 because "the literal physical god with perfect regeneration and supernova powers can show up at any time" is the kind of absolute stakes-killer I know better than to give free rein. There was an earlier draft where Vash could still heal Kendal (sort of retroactive spoiler alert, for a very long time there was a version of this fight where his enemy fully took off one of Kendal's arms and when Vash took him over he reformed it) but I had a dang good reason to not do that, so I didn't. Giving Kendal imperfect control over Vash's starfire abilities is narratively dangerous in the power-creep longterm forecast, but the fact is, even in the absolute best-case scenario where he gains perfect, effortless control over the raw fragment of a living star, I can still tie those powers to Kendal having access to the sword, and there are still lots of problems that cannot be solved by setting them on fire.
And even if a tool could be used to solve a problem, I think it's very important to focus on whether or not the character would be willing to do that. This is something I focused on a lot in the next couple chapters with how Dainix and Falst are gonna navigate the SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER. Kendal is, for the most part, totally unwilling to kill anything that isn't a chimera, severely limiting the practical applications of being able to crack rocks with his bare hands. Erin could theoretically solve most of his social conflicts through displays of raw magical power to intimidate or brute force his problems, but if he goes wild and stops being seen as a reasonable political player, he loses all of that oh-so-important social capital that makes people value him for more than just a talent for violence. Alinua knows full well the terrifying potential of her magic power, and all the horrible things it could do to anyone and everyone if she pushed her power past their limits, but spending ten years terrified of doing exactly that has left her completely unwilling to even consider that, even for people she hates.
So yea, it's a delicate balance I'm doing my level best to maintain, while still making sure our heroes get their wins and make progress. Reassuring to hear it's working out okay so far!

One of the main themes of Lilo & Stitch was not destructive colonization or racism. You can say that about other movies. Other mainstream movies. Black Panther, for example. You can’t say that about Lilo & Stitch. There is only ONE SCENE where the issue of tourism as a negative thing and racism could be claimed to be the focus, and that scene was deleted.
Even in that scene, you have to look at the focus of the WHOLE MOVIE. The reason you must look at it that way is because Chris Sanders (director of Lilo & Stitch, voice of Stitch) basically started what is now known as Disney’s Story department. He is known for cutting out anything that distracts from or warps what the story is actually about.
It’s why Stitch speaks. It’s why Stitch is a Frankenstein’s Monster and not a gang leader or a mythical creature. It’s why Lilo is an orphan.
So what I’m saying is that deleted scene was to show how annoyed Lilo is by tourists—and why shouldn’t she be, they’re depicted as rude, ignorant, crude, and racist. But it goes deeper than that. It served 2 other purposes: one, Cobra Bubbles is watching, and sees how Lilo is allowed to roam wherever she wants and all the trouble she causes/gets into on her own. This provides more believably motivation for him to take this likeable kid away from her sister without being a villain, himself. Two, most importantly, tourists are people who come for a little while and then leave.
Lilo has issues because her parents were there one day, gone the next. And she’s only ever known life on an island where the economy is driven by people who are there one day, gone the next. When she wants to cause trouble for Nani she puts a picture on the fridge of herself, all alone, and tells Nani to “leave me alone to die.” She asks the wishing Star for “someone who won’t run away.”
What I am getting at is that, even in a deleted scene, the point of the negative light thrown on tourists is there to show you what Lilo needs and feels she doesn’t have: someone to stay, come back, not leave her behind. Tourists come and then they leave; that’s their nature. So she hates them. She says, “if you lived here, you’d understand.” when she sees Cobra watching, but when you look at the WHOLE MOVIE, and consider who Chris Sanders is as a storyteller, then you KNOW that racism and colonization were not the focus of this movie. The focus of this movie was that while other people come and go, family does not leave you behind or forget you.
And that philosophy, even in Hawaiian terms and origins, applies to everyone, not any one people group. Western people might say “‘Blood is thicker than water,” or Africans might quote the proverb, “A family tie is like a tree, it can bend, but it cannot break,” instead of “‘Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” The point is applicable to everybody, and the storytellers did that on purpose, and if you make it about tourism and colonization, then you’re narrowing the focus of the movie down to a small, mean place where it can only apply to a handful.

Top 10 tropes/cliches/trends that I'm sick and tired of!
In no particular order.
1. Get down!
Someone screams ''Get down!'' or ''Look out!'' but not everybody gets down. Most of the time it's fine. The characters don't have enough time to react and get hit with an attack or whatnot. What I am actually mad about is when characters have quite a lot of time to get out of the way and they're not distracted by anything yet just choose to just stand there and do nothing.
That also applies to whoever is screaming for them to watch out. You see your friend is in danger, you have an ability that can be useful, do something!
But the most infuriating iteration of that cliche is when they say a character's name before whatever they are screaming and it somehow makes anybody else unable to hear what they're talking about.
''Bob, the train is coming!''
‘’My name is Eric, not Bob. I guess I'll just stand on the track and not even acknowledge what I've heard.’’
Extra salt to the wound when the character can totally see what is coming or at least they should but the animators couldn't be bothered to keep track of who and what is where in relation to each other.
2. Meta
I fucking LOATHE this new trend where they make self referential humor to mock the earnestness of the old stories.
Can’t they just let us get immersed in the universe without having those “We know it’s cliché *wink wink*” Especially when they do nothing to deconstruct it, show it in a new light, have an interesting spin on it, nothing. They just point it out like in CinemaSins! And it's especially annoying when they're ''breaking the stereotypes'' which have been broken years ago.
‘’She's not like other girls/princesses! She fights, speaks her mind, and doesn't want to get married to someone she doesn't love at all.’‘
Wow, you broke new ground. It's not like princesses in the 90s were already independent, princes Leia was a badass in the 70s, and even the older princesses, Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, get way too much hate. Go subvert the cliche which hasn't been used in years and replace it with this other cliche. There are adults and children today who haven't seen a legitimate, 100% helpless, damsel in distress. Seriously, at this point, I would've been more shocked if there was an actual romance in a Disney princess movie.
And they act so smug about it too. Do you want to talk about unwanted marriage? How about you talk about child brides right now? Because that would be actually controversial in those countries!
Just make a movie about a badass princess, nobody cares!
3. Squidward like character
Do you remember how in the bad episodes of Spongebob, Squidward would be just minding his own business, not harming anyone and then Patrick and Spongebob would just barge in and mess everything up. Squidward would straight up say that he wants them to leave but those two numskulls couldn't take a hint. The episode just ends with no consequence whatsoever for the people who made an innocent person's day a living nightmare.
This used to be everywhere! Seemingly every cartoon channel would at least have one cartoon like that if not more.
I guess the idea is that the children are supposed to relate to the annoying obnoxious little brats energetic and innocent little angels who just want to have fun with their parent/older sibling friend but he's being boring and doesn't know how to have fun.
How did the meme go? The older you get the more you relate to Squidward.
4. Why are you surprised by this?
Don't you just hate when a character doesn't know something that should've been common knowledge?
Ash not knowing pokemon can only say their own name, not knowing what contests are or whatever the gimmick for the season/game is.
People not knowing what mutants are or where to go when they find out they're a mutant.
I know shows and movies need to explain their lore and world building but can't you find a better way than creating that one moron character who asks all the basic questions and gets lectured and info dumped on. At least make them like Tarzan, raised in the jungle not knowing anything else about the world.
5. Super-let-down
When you have a team of superheroes one, if not the most, important and interesting part is their relationship and dynamic. Who's the parent of the team, who's the heart, who's the jokester? How do their superpowers mix, who needs to be careful to not hurt who, what combo moves they can pull off, how they cover each other weaknesses?
Wouldn't it be cool to see super villains do something like that? Guess what? They just argue all the time and when they fight they just get in each other's way. It's especially frustrating when they stop attacking the hero to fight each other. Even more so when the hero is egging them on by saying something along the lines ''Shouldn't you be the leader?'', ''Who's going to be the one to finish me off?'' or ''Are you going to let them treat you like that?'' It makes the villains look like complete idiots with the mentality of a kindergartner.
What a waste of a potentially great team!
Sinister six from the Spectacular Spider-Man is the closest to the satisfying villain team. Wish they had more screen time! They had great chemistry and their banter went above throwing insults at each other.
6. Too many supers in New York City
Since the MCU became big average people started to wonder, if all those superheroes exist in the same universe, then where were they when -insert huge event from a solo hero movie here- was going on.
At least DC has an excuse that pretty much every superhero has their own city to take care of.
It's especially outrages when you have the avengers, fantastic four, spider-man, and probably many others I can't remember right now leaving in the same city. What's also funny is when they meet and act as if they never heard of each other.
7. Stop with all the food!
Recently a lot of Disney movies and shows will have excessively long scenes of food making and I don't know why.
I know that movies that want to showcase some culture focus on the food too because it's part of the culture but come on. I don't want a tutorial on how to cook, put it on a DVD. Animators just want to flex how great they are at animating food, just like anime.
I know it's a weird thing to get hung up on but in a movie, every minute counts and the movie just wasted 1-5 minutes on food porn. Just put the food in the background, make it last a couple of seconds, or be part of the story.
8. Characters look never changes
I know characters always having the same clothes saves time and budget. Animators even make jokes/try to justify it by showing multiple versions of the same outfit.
It gets confusing when supposedly years have passed yet everybody looks the same. That's why I appreciate HTTYD. They let their characters grow up.
9.Did you switch bodies or voices?
I know that you want people to be able to tell who is in who’s body but vocal cords aka voice are part of the body and should stay in the body they belong to.
Change characters' posture, body language, way of speaking, etc.
But please don't change the eyes. It somehow makes even less sense and looks creepy.
10. Fight-cut-Scene
Do you ever see those fights when characters talk for a bit, throw a punch or kick, stop to talk some more, and again and again? Looking at you CW! Also, a massive amount of cutting to hide that the actors don't know how to fight and imitate speed. You know you can just show people being fast, right? Just because something or someone is out of the frame doesn't mean they stopped existing.

About that Lasa tag, the one saying reader and Loki are bisexual, it is pretty easy to notice about reader! Not so much Loki, I think?. I feel like one of the reasons I like Loki so much is because he reads like a very much queer man in a very gendered and strict warrior culture civilization. Like, his main thing is magic, right? magic, in Asgard, reads very feminine, at least it does to me. Also Loki is kind of scrawny when compared to other asgardians, dresses very differently, etc. He is genuinely an outcast/very different in asgardian society! I think lasa would benefit from showing that? I mean, if you want for him to read more bisexual? Also, at some point in the story loki says something along the lines of being able of turning into a woman at will... Is he genderfluid in lasa? That line of dialogue made me so happy, even if he said it as a throwaway line and it is actually not a common thing for him to do, the fact that he is comfortable enough to say that he can become a woman at any point is great. I would love to see how he navigates asgardian culture through his eyes instead of reader's eyes, she kind of sees the best in him but I'm sure many people in asgard do not like him at all, not only because he is a giant, but because he reads very queer. I'm not saying you should listen to my advice or do what I say or anything! Just giving my opinion, I love your loki a whole lot and, after reading shards of the nexus, it has kind of made me realize that you are very good at writing queer experiences. If that makes sense? Sorry I'm rambling at this point.
Oh my goodness I don't really know what to say. I've never been good at answering compliments, but I'm touched. I've been surrounded by queer people for a good portion of my life, but it's only been recently that I've come to understand the sheer variety of human expression enough to realize it was a label I could apply to myself. I still hesitate at times because I'm queer in such a specific way, that I easily pass as straight, but still...I'm also not.
When it comes to Lasa, I feel like it was easy to notice on the Reader's part because we are looking through her eyes! But with Loki, since it hasn't come up organically, we come to know him through context clues. He says he can shapeshift into a woman. Later, he tells us that his shapeshifting is not an illusion, that his body fully changes into the shape he takes, which is why he can be safely touched in Asgardian shape, but not in Jotun shape. Thus we can take that to mean that, when he shapeshifts into a woman, she is a woman. To me at least, that makes his genderfluidity both contextual and clear, yet also incidental, because the shape he's most comfortable in is the one we always see. In this way, his genderfluidity is like my queerness: not obvious to everyone, but no less a part of him.
As for the gendering of Asgard, I think it is more complex. I don't think magic is more feminine, I think it's more rare. We see very few people actively use magic in Asgard. Only Loki and Frigga, in fact. It could be argued that Hela uses magic to summon her spikes, but never more than that. However, we do have context clues that Odin also uses magic. One could also argue that Heimdall does as well. That is more men than women (Which, if you ask me, only says something damning about the number of women in the Thor movies, but that's a discussion that's been done to death, and I don't think I have anything unique to add.)
Likewise, I don't think woman warriors were all that rare in Asgard either. Frigga is shown to be incredible with a sword, Sif too. Yeah, all the einherjar were men, but I also think that was just to make them all look the same. You don't have an entire battalion of top woman warriors to be your valkyries, without also having legions of women warriors that were just a little less talented than that. Hela, of course, was better than everybody.
Some people might point to the things Thor said to Sif and Valkyrie about woman Asgardian warriors to show a gender divide there, but I would also point out that both of those times, Thor was trying to manipulate them into doing something for him. He's not a reliable narrator.
Even unnamed women are insinuated to be fighters. In Ragnarok, the two ladies Skurge was trying to impress with his collection were shown later on the Bifrost, and if you look close, they both have swords. Check it out:
Fun fact: I've headcannoned the dark haired lady as Saldis, and the young man beside her as Andsvarr.
I think Loki's outcast status was mainly confined to within his own circle in the palace. That his friends were actually Thor's friends, which is a trouble that younger siblings the universe over can relate to, I think. We are shown very little of the common Asgardian populace, and I don't think the royals spent much time with them, so I don't really think they have much of an informed opinion on either prince, beyond palace propaganda. When Loki meets them on the bridge, they don't have much of a reaction to him, or Thor.

Shards really does give me the opportunity to explore so many diverse queer experiences, from the very obvious to the near invisible, from the joyous to the suffering, and from the ignorant to the growth. It's so great, and I love doing it.

Notes from the Amphibia panel!
• Matt Braly got into animation when a Pixar guy came to his school to inspire him. Then he took figure drawing classes, went to CalArts for 4 years, worked at Dreamworks storyboarding, and started pitching shows.
• Jessica Chandra went from live action to applying for the Nickelodeon animation internship. Then she worked on Tangled before Amphibia
• Roxanne Cole did character design at first and then switched to storyboards--then Matt reached out to them
• Joe Johnston followed Matt's path, even being college roommates--but before that, he and Matt went to California Summer School for the Arts (now Interspark)--along with Alex Hirsch and others. He got Matt to work on part of SU.
• They start with a clip! It's an animatic for the Marcy Theme Song Takeover, and Haley Tju sings
• IT ENDS WITH HER SINGING "HOPE NOTHING BAD EVER HAPPENS TO ME"
• What are challenges in balancing the show's tone, after the s2 finale?
Joe: The tone kinda marches along with you as you go, esp with s1 and s2, and it's been pretty easy.
Roxanne: I came on for season 3, so my experience is watching the tone evolve from the beginning to the end, which is a lot of fun. Stuff about when are we getting into plot, into fun episodic moments (there's plenty of both). The characters are complex and flawed, albeit fun and goofy.
Jess: We had to bolster our design team and add to our schedule to make Matt's vision come true.
• Favorite episode you've directed, and more specifically, favorite scene?
Roxann: it would be from season 3...
Joe: From season 2, is Bessie and Microangelo, since it's funny and lighthearted
• How does Amphibia explore Loss?
Matt: Loss is one of the many feelings that is part of this cocktail called life. It will be something that everybody deals with. These intense things that the characters go through create realistic scenarios. The running theme of Amphibia is that the price is paid and every dream costs something. It will get heavy. Kids love to see these things explored. You want the full spectrum of the human experience in the show.
Jess: I agree. Watching this, I was like but why, Matt, why? It is part of life, and I think it's gonna be interesting to see how this is gonna affect all the characters and how they deal with it.
Joe: being 13 is tumultuous, and it's all about change and loss.
Roxann: I'm trying to be real careful because I know more about s3...Anne from s1 to s2 has become a completely different character and they [characters] are gonna change more in s3
• What do you love most about your role on the show?
Matt: It's less about what I can do and more about inspiring others... it's good to see people do their best work because they're motivated and have a rapport.
[Jess, Roxann, and Joe agreed, that the people are important.]
Roxann's first directory experience was on season 3.
• How do you decide what needs more budget? How do you balance action and comedy?
Joe: You can plan ahead a little, and roll with the punches. Jenn Strickland storyboarded everyone when they fought the robots.
[It got boring and I zoned out. They discussed distributing episodes to boarders.]
• What inspired some of the episode
Matt: Studio Ghibli, Legend of Zelda
Jess: Movies that came out recently, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, magical world genre
Matt compartmentalizes. Which is why Anne does that as well.
[They discussed their hobbies outside work. Matt has none.]
A season takes about a year to produce. They are produced stacked so that you don't have year-long gaps between airing. Episodes are done in production order usually.
Holiday episodes are out of order because of when they need to air. (Christmas special might be out of order).
• Out of all the roles, which goes underappreciated or doesn't get enough attention?
Roxann: Production gets glossed over. Artists have terrible time management and production keeps them on track
Matt: Revisionists, who "spackle" everything and go unrecognized. Basically, they clean the boards and get underpaid for it.
Jessica: The Checker! At the end of the production line, they catch ALL the errors. They're also called continuity editors. Often people will forget the right number of props, such as swords.
• What is it like, balancing episodic comedy and story art? Both dealing with heavy topics and making them approachable.
Matt: it's designed to be an episodic show, one that you can watch out of order if needed--although jumping in can make you a little lost later on. He wants self-contained AND long-form stories. (This is probably why we have lore-bomb episodes matched with plot arc episodes). He was inspired by Steven Universe's pacing, especially with the buildup "to a fever pitch"--and he hopes they can do the same.
• Is there a story you haven't told yet, that you have always wanted to tell?
Matt: Had wanted to tell a story about someone stuck in the hospital, since he was stuck in the hospital once. (Might be the inspiration behind Marcy in the tube, implying she won't get out quickly).
Jessica: Mrs. Boonchuy's childhood--coming to America, raising a child...
• What are your feelings about pitching boards?
Matt: I personally really like it. The energy in the room when you're pitching a new board.
Roxann: It's not my favorite thing. I was more involved in the animatic process, and recording scratch was the only pitching I did. (She pretended to be Hop Pop and took psychic damage at her recorded voice).
Joe: I really enjoy pitching (he's great at it, does voices and plays music)--especially when you have time to prepare.

I understand your decision about s4 with the different tone it takes. I personally enjoyed the character exploration and the way they showed Marinette struggling, how that impacted her other relationships and how Adrien's and Marinette's life experience and coping conflicted with each other etc and the build up. But it really depends on what s5 is going to do to build on that and with the Agreste story too. I get not wanting a certain plot point to apply to Adrien.
That's just the thing, isn't it? "It really depends on what s5 is going to do." If I have to wait to see whether or not a season is good, I will not spend that time watching a Schrödinger's Quality show.

So, hot take; if season four was going to be the big turning point where Miraculous becomes more serialized, they should have had storylines to actually progress and resolve. Look, there’s a reason shows have episodes and seasons, just like comic books have panels, issues and collections of issues and longer books have chapters. These are all meant to be tools for pacing your story. A chapter book should give you progress in each chapter. Each comic book issue is expected to progress the story that will eventually be put into a collection. Each book should conclude at least its own internal story arc by its end, each comic book collection should have an entire collected story arc. Otherwise they are considered badly written: meandering and incapable of pacing themselves.
The same rules apply to a TV show. An episodic TV show should progress at least a small stakes story in every single episode. Meanwhile, a season-based show should conclude at least a story arc within a season, while leaving threads for future seasons. A single bulk of a series should conclude its story before it ends. Otherwise they will be called “badly written”, because they couldn’t tell their story in a reasonable time frame.
Now Miraculous is stated to be fully serialized, so there should be a bigger story going on. It’s also season-based, always has been, so each season should at least have a consistent theme like the previous ones did (1. the audience and the leads learn the basics, 2. the idea of other heroes is introduced and a proto hero team is created 3. Chloé’s corruption arc). But, what exactly was the story arc for season four? What storyline was built up and resolved during that season? The Ladynoir conflict, Marinette being tested as the new Guardian, the building of the eventual superhero team Future Ladybug will lead, whatever the heck is up with Félix are all stated to be unfinished by the fandom. The Ladynoir conflict hasn’t received a satisfying conclusion, we’ve only seen Marinette’s first real failure as a Guardian, the entire team has been broken down, we still have no idea what Félix is up to. Everybody is talking about how season five will actually resolve everything introduced in season four but, then, what the heck was season four doing with over twenty episodes where it couldn’t conclude a single story arc? If season four’s only function is to set up season five, it is a season with no value by itself. It will only have story value once we also get season five. Even people who enjoyed season four admit that season five will be the deciding factor here. Miraculous season four only accomplished half of what a serialized season format show should have.
People have started criticizing Marvel superhero movies because so many of them are just building up for the next crossover movie. The movies with singular or only a few heroes have bare-bones stories that merely introduce characters and concepts that will only receive payoff in the next movie titled “Avengers”. These movies are seen as badly written and the Marvel film verse badly written, because no singular movie has story weight, they’re all merely vehicles to sell the Avengers and Marvel branding.
And that is why I will not watch Miraculous season four (at least not yet): it has no story value.

Y/N's Pov
I am walking to lunch, and when I round the corner, I see Mary and George looking through the lunchroom window and talking to each other. I make a confused face while listening in on their conversation. "Look at him. It breaks my heart," Mary says sadly. "Poor little guy. Sitting all alone", George says sadly while responding to Mary's comment. "I don't know why his brother or even Y/N can't sit with him. Actually, Where is Y/N. I don't see her anywhere."
"I'm right here," I say, spooking Mary and George before continuing with, "Also, I tried to sit with Sheldon on his first day, and he said it would be best for me to sit with people who have the same intellect as me. I found that rude because he meant Georgie, and I am so much smarter than Georgie. Anyways, Georgie doesn't sit with him because he says In school, they don't know each other". I look between Georgie and Sheldon, then look at my godparents. "Yeah, come on Mary, when you were in high school would you have lunch with a nine-year-old," George asked Mary. "Yes, I would have," Mary responded. "Well, there is something wrong with you." I took George's words as a sign to leave.
"Well, I'm... gonna... go," I told the married couple before heading into the lunchroom to sit with Georgie and our friends. I sat down to Georgie, trying to fit as many grapes as he can into his mouth. "Fourteen," he yelled out while all of Georgie's friends cheered him on. Georgie spits them all out before turning to me. "What did you think," Georgie asked me, trying to get my opinion on his 'cool' trick. "Georgie, if I wanted to see you stuff your mouth, I would just wait till dinner. In other words, not that interesting," I told my best friend. Georgie replied with a sad "oh" before going back to talking with his friends. I went back to finishing my newest sketch of a finch.

Georgie and I walked into the house. "Georgie, would you do me a tiny little favor," Mary asked Georgie while he was getting a drink out of the fridge. I sat with the girl I thought of as a little sister before saying hi. Georgie responded back with a "like what" before Mary asked Georgie to sit with Sheldon. I already told Mary why I don't sit with Sheldon. Missy with her smart remarks told Georgie, "Don't do it. I ate with him in second grade, it really hurt my social life." Georgie walked off while replying to Mary with a "No thanks". I kicked Missy under the table, then gave her a 'seriously' look. I shook my head and followed Georgie to 'help' him with his homework, which was more like do his work.
I don't follow Georgie because I'm his lost puppy. I follow Georgie to help him. Without me, Georgie would grow up to be a homeless man with great hair. I am basically Georgie's Guardian angel.
"Georgie, why do I always end up doing your homework? At this point, I don't even think you know how to read. Those magazines are just for show, and you know it. You probably only look at the pictures," I said to Georgie while sitting on his bed doing our geometry homework. "Aw, come on Y/N, don't you know that you're the smartest out of both of us. Without you, I would probably still be in the 5th grade. You were right about something though, those books are for looking, but I can read you." I roll my eyes at Georgie's comment before looking down and smiling.
I admit I might have a bit of a crush on Georgie but we're best friends, and how could I ever compare those girls in his magazine. If I tell Georgie that I like him, that could ruin our friendship, and that would be weird because we live together. So, I just stick to being his best friend. That way our friendship isn't ruined and I can still be as close to him as I can.
"Well I finished your homework and it's 10 o'clock, so I guess this is it. Have a good night," I said before heading out.

Y/N walked out of my room. I felt sad because she was gone. We talk all day, she does my homework, and we have practiced together, but I still miss her. "Maybe I like her," I mumble to myself while laying down staring at the ceiling. "Naw, that can't be," I said. I shut off my light and fell asleep.

Y/N's POV
I was leaving my art class when I see Sheldon talking to one of the cheerleaders. It's weird to be seeing Sheldon interacting with people without them running off and crying. It interested me so much I decided to listen in.
"Go wolves," Sheldon said in a monotone voice. Jessica closed her locker confused. Sheldon responded back to Jessica with, "You're a cheerleader, and by saying "Go Wolves" I'm initiating a conversation about something that interests you." "Oh, are you one of those special ed kids," Jessica asked still trying to understand what was happening. The older sister part of me kinda felt angry that she said that, but on the other hand she was talking to Sheldon. "My mom says I'm special. Would you like to be friends" Sheldon asks. She tells him, no, but Sheldon keeps going, "Are you sure? What if I told you I admired your boldly-applied makeup?" Jessica walks off offended.
I walk up to Sheldon frantically and say, "Sheldon, you can't say mean things like that. I'm at the top of the pyramid today, and Jessica is right underneath me." "Oh, I didn't know what I said was offensive. I thought that I was complimenting her," Sheldon says. "Well, just try not to insult people. If you don't know what to say, don't say anything to them." Sheldon replies with an "alright" before walking away from me. I watch Sheldon go before heading to my next class.
I got to my next class and I sat down beside Georgie. "I just ran into Sheldon trying to make friends," I told Georgie while I get the stuff I need for class out of my backpack. "I feel bad for whoever had to put up with Sheldon. That boy is not one for making friends," Georgie responds to my comment. "Well, I think it's cute, but I feel bad because he didn't make one friend." "You sound like my mom," Georgie says. I glare at Georgie. The teacher walks in and starts the class.

I hear Mary yelling about how Sheldon made a friend. I felt happy for him. I feel like Sheldon would really benefit from having a friend. I mean, I have Georgie, and we're inseparable.
I also heard Sheldon ask if he can start his rocketry hobby again with his new friend and I dipped. The last time he launched a rocket he killed a family of squirrels and my eyebrows. I wanted to bond with Sheldon so I helped him with his rocket.
I went downstairs to watch tv with Missy. She was watching DuckTales. "I'm surprised you're not with Georgie," Missy comments as I sit down with her. I roll my eyes and say, "Georgie isn't my whole life. I talked to Sheldon earlier, and now I just want to hang out with you. Sheldon has a new friend now, I have Georgie, but I feel like you don't have anyone to hang out with. So, what do you say tomorrow I take you to get your nails done." Missy's eyes go wide and she excitedly shouts, "Yes, I'm gonna go tell mom!"

When Missy and I got home Mary told us that Sheldon's friend was coming over. Missy and I sat down to talk and watch tv. There was a knock at the door, and that set Mary off. "He's here," she yelled. "Everybody, stay calm! Just a normal day, just a normal dinner," she continued. Missy asks if she and I can eat in front of the TV, which obviously didn't end well.
We're all sitting at the dinner table, except for Mary, when George starts asking Tam, questions. George makes it weird when he asked Tam if his mom was named Kim-lee. Me and Georgie look at each other with a cringed look.
Georgie releases us from the weird vibes when he asks Tam, "So, Vietnam, like in Rambo." Tam responds with a "yes" and then Georgie continues with, "That's a cool movie." Georgie asks Tam if he's in Rambo and I look at him and elbow him in the ribs. Georgie says, "oww, what was that for" before Tam tells him "no". Sheldon brings the conversation back to George's comment, but it is cut off by Mary serving dinner.
We learned a lot about Tam's family and life. It was very interesting. Georgie said a couple more stupid things, which earned him a few more elbows to the ribs.

"How was the day with my sister," Georgie asks me. I sign for Georgie to get off the bed and say, "We had fun. After our nails, we went to Dairy Queen and got a blizzard. I think Missy and I really needed today, you know." Georgie helps me make my bed and continues the conversation, "I missed you today." "Is Georgie Cooper jealous? Georgie Cooper didn't have someone to do his homework and now he's sad," I said mocking Georgie. Georgie grows a sad look on his face and says, "No, I missed my best friend. Not the girl that does my homework, or the girl that helps me clean my room. I miss the girl I talk to for hours. The girl that makes me feel special compared to the rest of my family. I miss that girl and that girl is you."
"Wow, that was deep for a kid that went a couple of hours without seeing me, but I know how you feel. Missy and Sheldon don't know how to do the things we do. I almost made Missy cry by insulting her earlier. I think I hang around boys too much," I say getting ready to lay down. Georgie climbs into the bed with me and we silently talk for the rest of the night.

It was now saturday and you had just came home from practice. It was about 6 in the afternoon. You started to run you some bath water, remembering how you’d have to go to the sleep over with Mina and the others. You and bakugou still didn’t get along, it was nothing but you 2 arguing at practice and the team being annoyed. You just couldn’t bring yourself to like him, no matter how hard you tried you just...couldn’t. Ever since you’ve got here, he’s hated you. He knew you were competition and he treated you like-so, even though you were on the same team. He didn’t care and neither did you.
you took off your uniform, stretching before you got into the bath water. the feeling was amazing, your muscles were finally relaxed. The feeling of the bath water brought you ease. You put on some thigh length socks. Mina had bought the pajama set for the movie tonight. the archer theory about taylor swift coming out.
well, i've seen some people talking about this song and i had to listen to it again, since it's one of my favorite songs on lover and it also has to do with the theories and the meaning this song has to me.
i don't want to apply this to anyone so feel free to SKIP and NOT READ if you don't agree that this is a LGBTQIA+ song.
pure my own interpretation but you don't have to come to me if you don't like, she has a lot of songs and some of them are free for interpretations and they have different meanings to different people.
the first line it's:
“combat, i'm ready for combat / i say i don't want that but what if i do?”
this line to me has the deepest meaning and it comes along with the one in you are in love “and you will understand now why they lost their minds and fought the wars” and in ivy “this is the goddamn fight of my life and you started it” and both songs are before and after the archer which makes the archer in the middle.
the combat she's (maybe) referring to it's about coming out being (still) the american dream and the woman everyone looks up to when it comes to pop music, she says she don't want it but what if she does? what if she want to fight for it, fight for who she is and who she wants people to see that she really is? it's a combat because you can't come out if you're not ready to start a war against the world.
“cause cruelty wins in the movies / i've got a hundred thrown-out speeches i almost said to you”
cruelty here, to me, it's about how cruel it is to not have the story of your life in the big screen, like, we grow up seeing the bad stories about LGBTQIA+ couples and it's always about how they didn't end up together or how bad they are treated. the “speeches i almost said to you" looks like something she was ready to say to us, her fans, and she didn't had the chance or she wasn't really ready.
“easy they come, easy they go / i jump from the train, i ride off alone / i never grow up it's getting so old, help me hold on to you”
when i first saw the miss americana documentary, i highlighted that part where she is trying to convince her father and the rest of the team that it was a good idea/good move to speak up about the politics and the situation of the trump thing. and it was very hard for me to watch because it was clearly a bunch of old men that grew up and still have in mind their conservatory concepts that goes against what taylor wanted to tell her whole life, they were just trying to silence her and she decided to do it anyway because she is a grown woman and she never spoke up about those things before the reputation era.
the easy they come and easy they go line goes for the fans, they are always in and out and sometimes some of them never want to come back and stay because in the first bad thing that happens to her it pulls them away. she jumps from the train and ride off alone, the train maybe is about her life that never stops and she takes a break from it, the media, the relationships, the image she has in front of the whole world and she ride alone because there's no one in the world that could understand her more than herself. she never grow up when it comes to being more mature when it comes to some things and having the capacity to speak her truth, she's asking us to let her hold on to us when things go harder and when everyone else has left her.
“i've been the archer, i've been the prey / who could ever leave me darling, but who could stay?”
i fucking love this line so much because when you are a LGBTQIA+ kid growing up, you always has to fight against being the bad person and the good person, you grow up seeing in the news that you will die young and that there's people out there that will try to tell you that loving someone of the same sex is the wrong thing to do. being the archer and also the prey is like haunting yourself until you realize who you really are, you have that idea internalized in you, the homophobic jokes you grew up listening and you're also the target and it's like both sides of a coin. who could ever leave her for being a (bi, pan, lesbian) woman? who could ever stay if she's a (bi pan, lesbian) woman? it's like “who could stay in the darkest of the darkest times here with me because it looks like i am lost and i don't know where to go”
“dark side, i search for your dark side / but what if i'm alright, right, right, right here?”
the dark side is not the bad side like people point out, the dark side of someone is like when the moon is half shown and half hidden, and you can only see the part that's out for the light. here the dark side of taylor is the one she haven't showed to us, and to me this line is not about a potential lover but about herself. and this song feels like a mirror, so to me, she's talking to herself and trying to find her dark side in front of her own image. the sequence “alright, right” it's like the dark side saying “i am here and it's good”.
“and i cut off my nose just to spite my face / then i hate my reflection for years and years”
this fucking line is the deepest for me, because it's like, she cut a part of herself to looks like someone who she wasn't made to be, it reminds me of having to hide your true side in despite of being hurt or left aside. how many LGBTQIA+ kids and teenagers has to hide from their parents? we change our way to see the world, we lie to everyone about our love interestings, we hide in the closet and we don't face ourselves because this is not who we are and then we spent the rest of our life hating our reflection because we don't recognize this person but everybody loves this version we created, it's easy, it's very easy to love a straight person but it's the hardest thing to let a queer kid feel loved. it's very easy to not tell a straight person how to be but it's the hardest thing teach a queer kid how to love themselves.
“i wake in the night, i pace like a ghost / the room is on fire, invisible smoke / and all of my heroes die all alone / help me hold on to you”
she's s ghost to the people who live with her so she's not seen, everything is burning and there's an invisible smoke that's where she fades in, and all of her heroes, probably the queer ones that are dying everyday all alone and the ones who died were left alone in their final days. again she's asking if she can count on us to keep going if things go hard.
“i see right through me / they see right through me / can you see right through me?”
seeing through someone means that you see their true version, like if you're looking at their soul and they're so open that you can read anything. it's understanding someone and knowing someone inside and out. just like the lover mv where she's inside the fish tank, it's a metaphor for a thing that can be seen by everyone just like a mirror. and the delicate mv where she's not seen until she enters the bar and sees a person. she can see through herself and people are seeing through her but not in the way she wants to be seen and then she asks (for the fans?) if we can see right through her. could we fight the wars with her? be the shoulder for her to lean on? stay even when she's about to face the fight the biggest war of her life?
“all the king's horses, all the king's men / couldn't put me together again / cause all of my enemies started out friends”
king's horses and king's men also align with the chorus and the universe of being the prey in a world of men. also it can also be the world of a society that lives inside a bubble and cannot accept diversity. not even the men, (her father, team, men she dated?) could put her together again after all that she have been through, and it matches with the “i cut off my nose just to spite my face”. all of her enemies once were friends which implies that she can't trust anyone and as the song goes as (in my vision) a LGBTQIA+ letter to her fans, she's saying that there's no one that could handle this secret and she already tried to tell them but it ended wrong.
that's it. to me this song has a deep meaning and i couldn't put everything i wanted to in this post. also i just want taylor to know that there's a lot of sapphic connotations in her songs and i will always stay.

It is that deep, actually. Otherwise they wouldn’t feel strongly about changing it, enough to change it. And you wouldn’t think up the argument “we don’t want to teach our children women have to be saved by a man.” It is that deep.
And yes, we do want the values of this story taught to our children. Having faith instead of fear is the main value of Snow White. Being genuine, and treating innocence like it’s worth something, are other values in the original. It’s so shallow and, honestly, ignorant, to boil the message of the movie down to “woman saved by man.”
The Prince has a grand total of two scenes in the original. The focus isn’t on him. The focus is on Snow White and the Dwarfs. Just watch it and it’s literally the easiest thing in the world to see the timeless values. She can’t change her situation, but she can change how she responds to it—and oh look! How she responds to the bad situation, with a good attitude and faith, actually does wind up leading to a change. That message is good for anybody, anywhere, in any circumstance.
But you try giving the new message to someone who’s so young or genuinely innocent that they actually can’t change their own circumstances. The next time you run into an abused 14 year-old girl who’s hated by the people with all the legal power in her life, I want you to look her in the eyes and say “why so blue? A woman doesn’t have to be saved by a man. You can save yourself!” And see how far that gets her. I want you to look in the face of the next person who only has six months to live, going through chemotherapy, and say, “save yourself, you’re strong enough, you don’t need some man to save you.” See how well the new stuff applies to actual reality.
I’ve responded to this same tripe twenty times, I’m so sick of seeing the same lines the last twenty years of culture have been spoon-feeding everybody regurgitated. Learn how to watch a movie, read a story, think critically. Come up with something new to say.
Yeah, Rachel Zegler isn’t the first to say it. That kind of makes it worse. Everyone’s just reading the hottest shallow buzzword take on Snow White from the early 2000s, the same cringe kinds that say “lol isn’t it weird that Shang couldn’t tell Mulan was a woman the whole time” instead of watching the movie and just acknowledging what it’s actually saying. Thinking for yourself. That kind of thing.
I Hate How She Talks About Snow White
"People are making these jokes about ours being the PC Snow White, where it's like, yeah, it is − because it needed that. It's an 85-year-old cartoon, and our version is a refreshing story about a young woman who has a function beyond 'Someday My Prince Will Come. "
Let me tell you a little something's about that "85-year-old cartoon," miss Zegler.
It was the first-ever cel-animated feature-length full-color film. Ever. Ever. EVER. I'm worried that you're not hearing me. This movie was Disney inventing the modern animated film. Spirited Away, Into the Spider-Verse, Tangled, you don't get to have any of these without Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937.)
Speaking of what you wouldn't get without this movie, it includes anime as a genre. Not just in technique (because again, nobody animated more than shorts before this movie) but in style and story. Anime, as it is now, wouldn't exist without Osamu Tezuka, "The God of Manga," who wouldn't have pioneered anime storytelling in the 1940s without having watched and learned from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the 1930s. No "weeb" culture, no Princess Mononoke, no DragonBall Z, no My Hero Academia, no Demonslayer, and no Naruto without this "85-year-old cartoon."
It was praised, not just for its technical marvels, not just for its synchronized craft of sound and action, but primarily and enduringly because people felt like the characters were real. They felt more like they were watching something true to life than they did watching silent, live-action films with real actors and actresses. They couldn't believe that an animated character could make kids wet their pants as she flees, frightened, through the forest, or grown adults cry with grieving Dwarves. Consistently.
Walt Disney Studios was built on this movie. No no; you're not understanding me. Literally, the studio in Burbank, out of which has come legends of this craft of animated filmmaking, was literally built on the incredible, odds-defying, record-breaking profits of just Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, specifically.
Speaking of record-breaking profits, this movie is the highest-grossing animated film in history. Still. TO THIS DAY. And it was made during the Great Depression.
In fact, it made four times as much money than any other film, in any other genre, released during that time period. It was actually THE highest-grossing film of all time, in any genre, until nothing less than Gone With the Wind, herself, came along to take the throne.
It was the first-ever animated movie to be selected for the National Film Registry. Actually, it was one of the first movies, period, to ever go into the registry at all. You know what else is in the NFR? The original West Side Story, the remake of which is responsible for Rachel Ziegler's widespread fame.
Walt Disney sacrificed for this movie to be invented. Literally, he took out a mortgage on his house and screened the movie to banks for loans to finish paying for it, because everyone from the media to his own wife and brother told him he was crazy to make this movie. And you want to tell me it's just an 85-year-old cartoon that needs the most meaningless of updates, with your tender 8 years in the business?
Speaking of sacrifice, this movie employed over 750 people, and they worked immeasurable hours of overtime, and invented--literally invented--so many new techniques that are still used in filmmaking today, that Walt Disney, in a move that NO OTHER STUDIO IN HOLLYWOOD was doing in the 30's, put this in the opening credits: "My sincere appreciation to the members of my staff whose loyalty and creative endeavor made possible this production." Not the end credits, like movies love to do today as a virtue-signal. The opening credits.
It's legacy endures. Your little "85-year-old cartoon" sold more than 1 million DVD copies upon re-release. Just on its first day. The Beatles quoted Snow White in one of their songs. Legacy directors call it "the greatest film ever made." Everything from Rolling Stones to the American Film Institute call this move one of the most influential masterpieces of our culture. This movie doesn't need anything from anybody. This movie is a cultural juggernaut for America. It's a staple in the art of filmmaking--and art, in general. It is the foundation of the Walt Disney Company, of modern children's media in the West, and of modern adaptations of classical fairy tales in the West. When you think only in the base, low, mean terms of "race" and "progressivism" you start taking things that are actually worlds-away from being in your league to judge, and you relegate them to silly ignorant phrases like "85-year-old cartoon" to explain why what you're doing is somehow better.
Sit down and be humble. Who the heck are you?
