We Don’t have double glazing, we Don’t have carpet on the floor it’s tile/marble 95% of all Spanish homes Don’t have heating, so when it gets cold it stays cold in the house also… Maybe that’s why Bella and I walk so much.. to get warm….

AN EDINBURGH man is competing in a racing car simulator event in Las Vegas in a bid to win $200,000 (£162,000) after qualifying from his bedroom. Graham Carroll, 26, will take part in the world's richest sim race - the Visa Vegas eRace in the North American city. The 28-lap race starts at 00:00 on Sunday (British time) and has $1m (£812,000) worth of prize money over several categories. His rivals include 20 pro drivers from the FIA Formula E Championship. Mr Carroll abandoned real-life racing when, after his second Formula Ford title win in 2008, he ran out of funds. The event is timed to coincide with the last day of the CES tech expo in the city. Mr Carroll, told BBC Radio Scotland's Kaye Adams Programme it was nerve-racking when so much prize money was at stake. He said: "These days the simulator is pretty much as real as you are going to get. The simulators I've been using over the last few years can get you ready for driving a real car because they are so like real life. "When I first started off at this competition to get my ticket to Vegas there was a four round qualifier and I won the first round of the series and the week leading up to that I was on it six hours a day, I was treating it like a job because if you qualify and go to Vegas you win a minimum of $20,000 (£16,000). "So to get that ticket out there meant a lot to me and it’s going to be good to be one of the 10 that make it there." He added: "It's going to be pretty nervy, if you think about it you can make $25,000 if you make it to pole position too, that's going to be nerve-racking."

AN ABERDEENSHIRE woman jailed in Bahrain for alleged adultery has been released following a campaign by her mother. Hannah James, who is originally from Fraserburgh, was accused by her husband Jassim Alhaddar of having an affair. But her mother Shelley James insisted she was the victim of domestic abuse and that her passport had been burned. She said the adultery claims were only made because Ms James, 26, wanted to leave the Middle Eastern country. Ms James spent a month behind bars before being released, but she has been told she cannot leave Bahrain "because of legal reasons". Her mother had set up a JustGiving crowdfunding page in a bid to raise £2,500 to fly Ms James home.

SCOTTISH ISLANDERS are considering their options after the Brexit vote - including breaking free from Scotland and the UK to become independent. Many residents have hoped for greater autonomy from the Scottish Government in the past, and were promised more powers in the event of Scottish independence. And now more than half of Orkney’s councillors have forced a motion demanding an investigation into possible self-determination for the islands after Brexit. The islanders overwhelmingly backed remaining in the UK and the European Union at both referendums in 2014 and 2016. A motion passed by 13 of Orkney Islands Council’s 21 members has demanded the chief executive compile a report considering “whether the people of Orkney could exercise self-determination if faced with further national or international constitutional changes, or indeed to decide if more autonomy might be beneficial for the wellbeing of Orkney.” The motion also says the report should look at what would be needed to “consider such opportunities for greater autonomy or self-determination” with both the UK and Scottish Governments.

PLEXUS HOLDINGS, the Aberdeen-based oil and gas technology company, has landed a second contract – worth about $285,000 (£231,400) – with a customer in Oman. The deal for a second well with Masirah Oil follows an initial $600,000 contract awarded by the explorer a year ago, and will see Plexus supply its Pos-Grip equipment, designed to prevent the type of blowout behind the 2010 Gulf of Mexico disaster that killed 11 people. Aim-quoted Plexus said there was a possibility of a third well being drilled offshore Oman, a new territory for the company, depending on drilling results. Chief executive Ben van Bilderbeek said: “This is the second order we have secured with Masirah for our cost-effective and technically superior wellhead solutions. Aside from the positive impact on our revenues, it further increases our visibility in this important oil and gas region.” He added: “The Middle East is one of the few regions in the world where drilling activity has remained relatively stable during the current downturn. As a result, it is a key area of focus for us, as we look to expand the geographic footprint of our best-in-class equipment.”

AND FINALLY… One of Britain’s oldest women who recently celebrated her 110th birthday - has revealed the secret to her long life is a daily dram of whisky. Grace Jones, known to her friends as “Amazing Grace”, is the 10th oldest person in the UK. I never miss my night cap. All I have is the whisky at night. Grace Jones On Friday Ms Jones turned 110 and said her longevity is down to having had a night-cap of Scotland’s Famous Grouse single malt whisky every evening for the last 60 years. Liverpudlian Mrs Jones was born on September 16, 1906 - five years after the death of Queen Victoria. She has lived through 27 prime ministers, received seven telegrams from the Queen and survived two world wars. The mother-of-one, who lives in Broadway, Worcestershire said: “I never miss my night cap. All I have is the whisky at night. “Whisky is very good for you. “I started having a nightly tot of it when I turned 50 so I’ve been having it every night for the last 60 years and I certainly have no intention of stopping now. “My doctor said ‘keep up with the whisky Grace, it’s good for your heart’. “I still feel the same as I did when I was 60. “The best memory of my life was when I married my husband Leonard. He was a true gentleman, the son of a parson. “We were always together and we loved one another. “I feel fine. I feel full of spirit. I have got seven cards from the Queen now. This year’s was a very nice one…. Now where did the wife put the Famous Grouse??
