I know this is a fucking stupid comparison on some level considering the gravity of the situation. But there’s being out of touch then there’s Vivienne medrano.
Why would I want to see a whiny, powerful, authoritarian, white supremacist self victimising sexual predator who hates women and has children’s blood on his hands, man as my president, then go to vivzies silly cartoon on YouTube to watch (cough)
A whiny, self victimising powerful man of authority, degrade and command others to follow his whim, sexually prey on another man of lower class then blame his ‘loneliness for it’ — a man of ‘inferior’ species, and then ruin two women’s lives, one of which being a woman forced to have a pregnancy, something very close to home right now —- then have his daughter be framed as the problem, then I just know the fucker will get everything he wants.
Stolas:
- incredibly wealthy and born into his own massive house, through other hard working people’s taxes his ‘mean’ daddy gave him as a birthright
- sexually lustful. Believes sex is a human right of his. Promotes the make loneliness epidemic idea, but gay.
- uses sex as leverage for a job, over a race of people unable to even work for themselves
-abusive to his employees
- classist, pokes fun at the species forced to serve him
- is apparently a bigger victim than the “mean” woman forced to carry his baby (I’d be mean too, holy fuck)
- is sexually inappropriate in front of teenage girls and neglects a child for cheating on his wife, her mother, publicly, in front of her.
- has endless defenders and enablers of his every action every step of the way
Did I miss anything? This character is a fucking nightmare, no he does not “deserve so much” and he can cry me a river. Everything bad coming his way was a long time coming. And too much of his story is incredibly reactionary and painfully relevant.
Mood. If I wanted to watch a whiny rich man get away with sex crimes, I'd turn on the news.

We don't hate women. We hate women who are abusive towards their partners.
Michael and David both deserve better and just because you want to buy into what PR and social media tells you, you don't have to attack other people for being upset over actors they care about possibly not being happy.
David wouldn't leave Georgia, they are married and have children, so he feels responsible. He always puts other people before himself. And Anna played it well with the babies, as harsh as it sounds. Michael would feel terrible leaving the girls. People staying in relationships doesn't prove you right, sadly. It's no sign of anything other than commitment and commitment doesn't always come from a place of love.
By saying that Michael and David shippers want to see them unhappy in their relationship, you show that you're missing the point. The whole point of shipping them is wanting them to be happy. You just want to be hateful towards people who don't suppprt your narrative, it seems.
GOD I WISH TUMBLR WOULD LET ME ADD TEXTS BEFORE ASKS SO I COULD SAY “Warning: you’re about to hear one of the most moronic takes I have ever heard” *insert gif of amanojaku from ghost stories here* okay let’s…we have to break this down it’s too much for me to just laugh at and go “wow this is dumb as hell”
“We don’t hate women, we just make up stuff so we can justify hating them”- you. where’s…where’s any shred of proof that either women are even a little bit abusive? I mean don’t you think we would have seen some of that by now? And no, enty lawyer doesn’t count as proof and neither does random screenshots of a bit of text with zero context. Also neither do jokes online with your partner when they’re okay with it (and make the same jokes quite literally all the time) and nobody sees a problem with it except the people that conveniently hate these women.
2. “Michael and David both deserve better” yes I’m sure the rich white middle aged men who are two of the most popular actors in their countries who have girlfriends/wives and kids who love and adore them are surely hurting because some weirdo on tumblr says it.
3. Hate to tell you this but married people with children divorce all the time. It’s not like if they divorce he is going to suddenly vanish in a puff of smoke babe.
4. Even if that’s true, your theory of him only staying out of responsibility is bullshit. Someone who stays for the kids isn’t going to dip their wife into a kiss on the red carpet and look at her like a hozier song sounds. If there’s any event or interview where he can find a way to praise Georgia, he does it. He always talks about her. After events they’ve been seen kissing deeply and walking arm in arm honeymoon style.
5. as for Anna and Michael, (David and Georgia too but they seem more open to pda) they don’t owe you pda. Michael has been more than adamant about defending his girlfriend on twitter and good for him about it.
6. if you guys were genuinely concerned with Michael and David’s impending relationship crashes, why is it always tied to their love for one another? The only people who see This rampant “abuse and unhappiness” is this group of people who believe David and Michael are actually in love and want to elope together. Nobody else. Not even other Sheenant shippers. You guys literally just hate them, I mean Invisibleicewands has been talking shit on Anna since she posted her first photo with Michael back in 2019 and hasn’t stopped.
7. “And Anna played it well with the babies, as harsh as it sounds.” seriously what the absolute crap is this supposed to mean my dude? I’ve gotta be honest….you know how smex works right? Michael could absolutely choose to use protection!!! Why is it on her? Not on him. He’s had kids before I think he knows that a stork doesn’t bring the baby. Holy hell you people make my eyes hurt
8. (finally) funny you should bring up narratives, you know considering you’re part of the group that thinks any affection towards anybody else that isn’t them is PR (thinking of the Joseph Fiennes hug fiasco) that lied about Georgia and Anna being abusive, that has tried time and time again and moved the goalpost, that fabricates evidence and tries to send death threats to people who speak out, and then lie about it, that your group is the one who can’t handle women working together and have to call everything PR. The same group that ignores the fact that Anna and Georgia are friends, to talk grave shit on them. Newsflash sweetheart, we aren’t the ones pushing the narrative here. You only want to see David and Michael happy as long as it aligns with your delusion. Have the day you deserve.
anyways, I think this is going to be my pinned post. Mostly because I want this to be embarrassing if you ever try to come back here and lie on Betty whites internet again, but also because I think this addresses so many tin hat talking points at once. Just because we love aziraphale and crowley doesn't mean we get the right to insert ourselves into their personal lives, you wouldn't want someone else praying for your relationship to fail.

Racism in the ace community is seen as a joke from the outside and a confusing concept in the inside but it's pretty bait tbh:
Barbie, Wednesday and Elsa are ace-coded but not canon aces but they're widely accepted as ace icons in the community. Lacking genitalia, disliking romance and being single are not inherently asexual yet the community happily claims them as ace solely on those reasons. But Selah Summers? Nah she actually didn't say the words "aroace" even though the director confirmed it so she didn't really count. Abbi Singh? Nah she had a girlfriend and her superpower is being a succubus and it's not like the Imperfects actually addressed the themes of an asexual lesbian South Asian woman and her sexuality or anything. Fei Hargreeves? Well yeah the actress and producer confirmed it but she never said it on screen. Ace characters of colour always get held "screened" for approval to be "real rep" in a way white aces aren't its so weird (this also happens to gay aces but that's another post)
Almost anything involving Yasmin Benoit. The reason she's unacceptable ace rep is because of misogynoir. She's spoken so many times about never dating and not having sex (which mind you is none of our business and she shouldn't need to explain herself in the 1st place) and yet she's "too sexual" to represent the community. Again with the nitpicking, popular white ace accounts were so quick to dogpile her for not-so-good takes but when she speaks about racism? Crickets. When she spoke about sexual harassment? Crickets and not only that but they defended her harasser. The main ace activists that defended her were other Black aspecs.
Not understanding how desexualisation affects POC. Specifically, Black women are excluded from representations of love and sex because we're seen as undesirable. It's common for TV/Film to pair up everyone but the Black girl, or have a rebound Black partner for the non-Black main character who's disposed of when they're ready for their "real" non-Black partner again. This isn't done for Black aspecs benefit. It's a form of dehumanisation. Friendship especially in m/f is needed but exclusively pushing for friendship between Black women and non-Black men when there is romance coded or confirmed and shaming Black women in fandom or in show for shipping the Black female character is not doing what you think its doing.
Not understanding how sexualisation effects POC. Again linking to Yasmin, POC, especially Black people have been sexualised due to white supremacy. The "allosexual privilege" framework fails to acknowledge this because Black people's sexual attraction and sex is seen as aggressive and animalistic. Black people aren't "allowed" to be ace because of this sexualisation and why Yasmin regardless of what she wears or does is seen is too promiscuous.
Not acknowledging ace POC as ace rep. Again, where was the acknowledgement of Selah and the Spades as groundbreaking rep? The first aroace darkskin Black girl as a lead in any film? Sherronda J Brown spoke about Big Mouth's Black ace character and someone said it didn't count just bc they dislike the show. Again with Abbi and Fei the community didn't make noise for them like they did Todd from Bojack Horseman or Florence from Sex Ed (mind you the gap between how they did Florence vs O is jarring in itself) Isaac from Heartstopper was inspirational for many aspecs and I wont take that away but the way he's instantly credited for ace representation when he has so little screentime compared to the others is wild.
Just tired tbh. "Listen to POC aces!" "POC aces are valid!" Prove it then...?

Before I start this, I don't want any hate towards this person, I won't include their user name, or the platform I got it from and if you do know leave it be but I want to talk about my issues with what they said. I don't know them.
Tumblr media
This is really weird and reductive. I'm not saying you can't be a fan of Rhaena potentially getting Nettles' storyline even if I'm not, but the way this is framed is horrible.
Nettles specifically is George using stereotypes of black girls and women and subverting them.
Nettles is 'dark' and 'ugly' because it's a Valyrian beauty standard that is being upheld. It could very well simply be her black features that are being called ugly. Look at who says it in the books and look and who maintains it. They are all white.
Now I'm not one to say we can't have ugly characters, but I am one to impose something in the written narrative, and in this case, that plays out into George subverting racial stereotypes with Nettles. So, while she could be ugly, I also think there is a large possibility that she isn't. She could just look unambiguously black.
I'm not one to defend a white man against racism allegations, but not all the black and brown women are sexually promiscuous. George does have an orientalism issue, but let's not deny that there are characters like Missandei, Sarella, and Nymeria in the narrative. Summer Islander characters are a bit harder, but there is a real-world reason for them to be sexual, its not just George on his snow bunny arc. Their culture views it as a type of worship.
There are 3 fics under the Nettles / Addam Velayron tag, and I've read one that isn't like that. I'm not saying it's not plausible, I'm just saying out of three fics it's not that big of a deal. As for bigger Nettles fics and ships. it's a stretch to say that half are written in her own pov, but typically, her stories have a romantic arc because that's what most fanfics do. Create romantic arcs. And as someone who's read the majority of her fics (I'm being dead ass), it's not mindless sex. It's a conclusion to her romantic narrative arc about 75% of the time. Call it bias but I can't remember the last time I read a Nettles fic where the writers let her be a whore. We've failed on that mark. We have a snow bunny issue, but outside of that, it's not that serious (free my girls from the shackles of white men)
Moving on to the weird respectability politics. "Smart, tough, elegant, and not becoming the street urchin /ghetto stereotype like Nettles."
The only thing that stereotype doesn't have in common with that phrase is elegant. That's literally the only difference. I'm not American, so I'm not going to impose myself on that view, but I will speak to holding anyone to respectability politics. Black girls especially don't have to act one way to be better than others. There isn't one way to be black. That goes hand in hand with being both respectable and assimilating and 'ghetto'. It's reductive to say that anyone should be and applying the 'better' one to Rhaena and baela and the 'worse' one to Nettles is foolish and ignorant. I will have a bigger post on this soon.
As I've said countless times before, Rhaena taking Nettles' story is racist because they aren't interchangeable. Rhaena isn't black, nor is she poor or disposable within the narrative. Daemon isn't going to be miraculously proud of her. Nettles deserves her narrative. No one can cry the way Nettles does after the Battle of the Gullet. Not even Baela and Addam or Alyn. No one can have their life seen as disposable by Rhaenyra like Nettles can and no one can start the burned men but Nettles.
For the show, it doesn't make sense to take Nettles out entirely. There are way too many gaps to full when you can just add her character.
Lastly and all of this to say, you don't have to defend liking something, making stuff up is weird and acting as though it's a better choice to combine a black character and a non black character is crazy. It can just be a choice you like.
On the other hand, I want all three final girls because I can have them, and there is no reason not to.

Completely random things about Disco Elysium characters that I think about
Klaasje isn't Garte's type and he is probably the only one immune to her charm (she even manages to fool Kim)
Garte never takes a step back and even yells at the Hardie Boys and mercenaries. He doesn't give a shit if he dies.
Cunoesse sleeps outside at night
Cuno used to do his homework so he is not 100% illiterate
Cuno is locked out of his house by his father (his father keeps his key) so Harry breaking into their apartment might be the only way he could get in again
Smoker in the balcony says that Harry looks like he does belong in the Homosexual Underground. He even flirts a little
Egghead dresses like a boideiro
Measurehead can't get hard for his babe which he uses some of his racist bullshit to explain
You can touch the hanged man's penis for some reason and electrochemistry even urges you to
Kim intervenes when Harry is talking to Paledriver or Joyce only out of concern for him
When Harry sees Judit he immediately remembers her as the horse faced woman because that was probably what he used to call her before his amnesia, at least in his head
Similarly, Jean uses the words middle-class, bangable and fuckable while describing Dora in a deadpan tone even though he never met her because that was probably what Harry exactly said about Dora while he was drunk. The drunks in the fishing village also confirm that Harry said a "whore" fucked him over.
Endurance and physical instrument holds Harry's repressed toxic masculinity and possible misogyny, although you can become a feminist or grow out of those thoughts throughout the game. If you don't, they will repeat thoughts about how women are whores and they are all crazy.
Both in Harry's first dream and last dream, his subconscious focuses on Dora's sexual aspects: Warmth of her mouth, between her thighs, wearing a white gown that shows her figure etc.
Kim will still like your karaoke performance even if it was a disaster and he will even defend your performance against Jean
Jules Pideu will try to encourage you if you tell him you can't do this anymore
What Judit feels for Harry is just pity
If you make a "joke" to Cuno about Kim dressing in drag Kim will think something like "YOU are the one who looks like a hooker in those promiscuous clothes"
Jean will also tell you that you look like you have 20 STDs if you are wearing something "promiscuous"
Trant used to be a drug addict and so he understands why Harry can't just quit drinking
Ruby does not actually want to hurt Harry and Kim. She even decreases the intensity of pale emitter because she feels bad for them
Evrart will say "you are NOT an ultraliberal Harry, get the fuck out of here" if Harry says that he is an ultraliberal
Kim will yell "are you stupid??" so loud that Harry will lose a health point if he says that he is a fascist
Andre is "not twenty" and he is already balding
"Pigs" lady used to take care of the Hardie boys when they were kids
Titus says "some Hardie boys are queerer than others and that's okay", looking at Glen
Glen is probably gay but he is the one who reacts the most when Harry says that Ruby likes girls
You can give the working class woman a hug
Harry can ask Joyce if she wants to fuck but she will evade it immediately, saving both of them from embarrasment
If Harry goes on a date with Lilienne, one of his skills will say that this is as far as he could go in his current state & he should be sober for more than a year for something more. Which indicates that if Harry did not keep drinking/he has recovered, he could actually pursue Lilienne and they could be something more
Kim knows that wearing anal beads in public would not make a sound

how women on here are reacting to the boxing situation is the final straw for me with radblr tbh.
like imagine this scenario for a second: people are making false claims about you that you not only can easily disprove with a simple, uninvasive test, but you've ALREADY DONE said test in the past so you'd just need to ask them to publish the results. you can debunk these claims with the same amount of effort required to push a button.
but you don't. you have Literally The Easiest Option In The World to prove you're right and you don't do it.
and yet because women have created their own OC for this guy in their heads who is a female with androgen issues they'd rather defend their self-made blorbo as a way to peacock about how "yes all women" and/or "not racist" they are than do 2 seconds of research and critical thinking to realize "hey maybe this situation that fits literally all the criteria for the dude being a male, including the fact that he's been previously disqualified from competing in the women's league TWICE yet shows up for the Female Olympics anyway, means he's actually just a liar and cheater"
i'm open to having some sympathy for him if his parents (tried to*) raise him as a girl but like. he's a fucking adult. he took a sex test. he knows who he is now. he's making his own decisions. one of these decisions is choosing to hide who he is.
*idc how misogynistic his parents are in believing "no vagina??? but no penis. no penis = female. because female = non-male.", if they knew he had a male-specific dsd that coloured how they raised and treated him, even if they tried to hide it. the act itself of hiding it from him and trying not to raise him that way makes their treatment of him already inherently different from how they'd raise him if he were actually female.
Tumblr media
link here
im going to try to go about this in the most respectful way possible.
i cant say i agree with everything youre saying here. theres still a lot of misinformation about this and i cant say a slatz tweet is very satisfying for me given the racist and homophobic things ive seen from her. but, if what you say is true, that this boxer is an intersex male who was assigned female at birth, i think its completely unfair to treat her entirely as a man. the community tends to regard itself as a place for intersex women too, those with this particular dsd were not spared misogyny just because they unknowingly had xy chromosomes. learning they are biologically male with a dsd doesnt mean they have a desire to completely restructure their lives and identity around being men, i think thats kind of insane to expect.
that being said, i think there needs to be a reevaluation of fairness in sports and how intersex people fall into it. what advantages or disadvantages do intersex women carrying a y chromosome have over those that dont? what male charactistics (bone density, for example) still exist in these women? do they pose a danger to other women in their sport? what about other intersex conditions? at what point does it become unfair? unfortunately it could lead to their exclusion, and if that happens will there be another place for them? theres a lot to consider and things will have to change as we learn more. its not really a black and white situation in my opinion.

Hii I’m pretty new to 9-1-1 and caught up in like a month lol!
Since you right for Black girls, can you write something about Buck confiding in Hen and Karen or even Athena about being with a black woman? Love your work!🖤
I love that for you! It’s an easy watch, but it’s so intense 👀
Thank you so much for this request! I had a lot of fun with it and I hope readers can relate 🤍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I see a time when Buck and Hen get drunk again with Karen and the topic of hair is brought up:
“So many products! There’s rejuvenating, hydrating…curl quenching? Don’t they all do the same thing?” Buck asked with his eyes squinted, half with curiosity and half due to the blood running to his face.
“Absolutely not!”
“No!” Karen and Hen exclaimed, stepping on each others words,
“Hair that contains melanin requires much more care. One day it’s soft and bouncy and the next it’s dry and brittle like a birds nest,” Karen explained.
“Hence,” Hen said as she lazily pointed to her bald head and poured another shot.
“Yeah…but…”
“But?” Hen asked choking down the contents of her glass
“She won’t let me help her with it. I mean..Taylor a-and Abby loved when I played in their hair-“
“You didn’t tell her that, did you?” Karen interrupted.
“Of course,” Buck replied confidently looking slightly to the side as if the conversation turned argument was replaying in his head.
“Noo, Buck,” she said putting her head on the table.
“A-a-and she got sooo mad!”
“First of all, women don’t like to hear about what the women before her enjoyed,” Hen started to explain,
“It makes her think you’re still thinking about them,” Karen said in agreement.
“I-I’m not! Not at all!” Buck tried his best to defend himself, but the drinks were staring to hit faster and faster.
“Second of all, Black women have never been allowed to think her hair is enough,” Hen continued but she could tell she was losing Buck,
“Meaning, she’s always been told it’s too wild or too nappy. So the thought of someone “playing” in our hair makes our skin crawl,” she said matter of factly.
“So then I just never touch her hair?”
“No, Buck. You need to break down that wall with her that has been up since before grade school. Watch what she does, look up YouTube videos if you have to, but it’s more than what you think.”
“Is it cause I’m white?” He hated asking the question, but he wouldn’t know the answer if he didn’t. When Karen and Hen just took sips from their cups, Buck slumped in his chair, sighing in defeat.
“It’s different for both of you. Why do you think we’re even talking about it…with you?”
He propped his head in his palm, looking at the wet ring stained in the wood table. Hen and Karen were right. Buck is not completely out of touch and should’ve known it was more than he was understanding.
He begged his friends to crack open their laptop and share enlightening stories about their hair journeys. That night he studied Black Hair Care as much as he could. Since he’s only touched her hair during a movie or sexual activity, he found her texture is 3C with a 3B framing and 4B crown. He spotted her favorite products by the color of the label and airdropped himself articles he wanted to revisit. Karen couldn’t help but feel mushy as she finally understood the scope of the love Buck has for Y/N and she couldn’t be happier.
He sobered up over the next couple of hours and ordered his Uber home. On the ride, he couldn’t help but imagine the direction their relationship was about to go, smiling to himself gently. He walked through the front door hearing the shower run and decided to shed his street clothes into something more comfortable. Once he had been home for 15 minutes and Y/N still wasn’t out of the shower, he knew she was taking an Everything Shower.
Buck got up and went to the hall closet, picking up her hair basket. He started to get intimidated when actually handling the products and Denman Brush, but that quickly changed to excitement when he remembered she still has to teach him, no matter what. He heard the shower turn off and wet patting across the hardwood. Buck went over her whole routine in his head and anticipated you walking down the stairs.
You rounded the corner and was meant with waiting eyes,
“Hi,” Buck said with his famous grin.
“Hi,” you replied looking at him and then your hair stuff out and displayed,
“What are-”
“Um, come sit,” he said plopping back on the couch. You looked at the two pillows stacked on the floor between his legs,
“Buck…” you said unsure.
“I’ve already learned how to love all of you. Let me learn how to take care of all of you.”
Tears welled in your eyes as you slowly crossed the floor panels. You knew you weren’t just walking to get your hair done. You were taking steps into your future with a man who wanted every bit of you.

Build up where ??? HOTD
Those who are defending HOTD writing , fighting tooth and nail like obsessed fangirls , are they even watching the same show ??? This show is literally garbage writing , zero characterisation and full of illogical plot holes looking like pot holes on a muddy village road .
Where to even begin ? Atp, a whole 200 page book can be written on the lack of writing and cringe fanfiction OC inserts of showmakers that are not even subtle anymore.
Where's the smartly written dialogs and interesting scenes between small fry characters and MCs ?? Interestingly composed scenes of diverse cultures , grounding scenes of daily lives that are somehow intricately connected to who they are about one or more characters.
Truly , true art can not be replicated or replaced . I'd watch old clips of GOT where it's just two random characters talking to each other and nothing else happening over this entire dump on fire season . Such memorable quotes n conclusions that kept us all on our toes came out of such conversations.
Let me not even start on our female characters. Whichever gave the showmakers this idea that a person who doesn't even identify with that particular gender will be ideal candidate to play a feminist icon in the show ? They do not understand the power that comes from embracing the fragility, gentleness, allure and softer sides of being a woman . And the show makers ?? They've zero idea about Women , their bodies , their hearts , pregnancy, motherhood , marital bond , importance of husband wife bonding and rearing children . They've zero idea what makes a woman strong . I've seldom seen such poorly written female characters, each weak , pathetic , cut board cut outs ( Rhaena , Baela , Haelena ) and unrelatable. They're denied of agency ( Alicent ) , femininity ( Rhaenyra ) , ambition, ruthless strive. Catherine, Sansa , Dany , Cersei , Arya even small female characters that appeared for a season are of fuller blood and flesh , feel like real life and they each embrace different sides of what being a woman actually means.
Show makers have zero respect or true regard for LGBTQA characters. They literally deleted a bunch of canonically established book characters belonging from that group . They treat Ser Laenor like garbage . No body cared about him when he was in the show , he literally proposed to be there for their children and for a fresh start with his wife but was then kicked out from her life because atp, she felt she needed a new husband to secure her position and safety of her children and decided to seduce and manipulate an emotionally vulnerable Daemon mere days after his wife's death.
And now in the show every one has moved on. Where is Laenor?? Is he alive ? Why is Seasmoke so restless and ready for a new rider ?? Can he sense that his rider is gone? Does your favorite girl boss cares ?? No ! Neither does the show.
But nor does the viewers , because hey we've got a hot toxic lesbian kiss that pretty much ruins the essence of both the characters and deviates them so far away from their book selves that they're no more the same characters. They might as well just change their names and introduce them as OCs . Yay for representation. We won ! Not.
The show stinks so badly of racism that it makes me feel sick. The Valeryons are played by a bunch of Bl actors without that having any effect on the story . AND yet those same characters are treated like disposable and insignificant within the story , existing as props to enhance the story of White characters. How typical. 🤔 They erased Nettles whose story reverberated through the heart of Westeros for eons to come and was truly inspiring , because that could not endanger what they're trying to do with their OC Rhaenyra, not comfortable making her human by showing her jealous and possessive of her OWN husband whom she loved crazily and was prepared to cross all limits of morality for him . No , that'd make her a human being and a wife . Can't have that here. Doesn't fit with our narrative. Can't show her to be dismissive and vindictive as she was of Nettles because of who she was and where she came from. Can't have the simp Daemon of the show look outside of his cheater wife, when Nettles was without a doubt the most important person for him near the end of his life.
They ruined another book , ruined great characters and those who have no idea about the book and the essence of these characters are praising and defending this garbage by attacking the books fans . It's indeed an interesting psychological study how like minded people are attracted to like minded stuff.

Fiona gallagher and pretty privilege
I think fiona is a great example of how being an attractive white woman can really help shape the way people interpret or misinterpret people's actions, and I've never seen someone talk in depth about it before.
I think one of the main things that stand out to me regarding the way fiona looks is how she is so often boxed into the character type of "sad girl victim." What I mean by that is that people view her as this young woman corrupted by sadness. She's cursed by her environment, and everything she does is okay because of that. Fionas story is undeniably sad, but she isn't always the victim, and despite everything she's gone through, she can mess up. I don't think shameless allows for these kinda characters cause their faults are always portrayed so strongly. Typically, u see teen girls grouped in together, like cassie and effy from skins, Tracy from thirteen. Even a younger character like Debbie isn't as frequently put into this box. Debbie has a devastating story, too. They both have scenes crying and breaking down. Vees heartbreaking storylines of believing she was infertile or having to help her brother her whole childhood are never touched on. People don't see Vee as a 'sad girl victim.' And too me this is because, put simply, fionas pale skin and big puppy dog eyes look better next to lana del rey lyrics then the others do. Fionas sadness and struggle is romanced into something desirable. We see fiona be 'desired' sexually/romanticly many times throughout the show. I think there's something to be said about the way people's admiration for fionas physical body leads them to admire her mental state, even if it's inherently negative at times.
I'm not saying fiona is undeserving of sympathy or in any way trying to downplay her struggles just because she's white and more conventionally attractive. However, I do think it's these traits that make people disregard her wrongdoings where they wouldn't with other characters.
Again, using v and Debbie as examples, their parenting is scrutinised to a much higher degree than fionas, even though fiona is the one who makes the most mistakes. People will in the same breath crisis Debbie for leaving franny with Frank and defend fiona for leaving coke out for liam to find. Realistically, people should be firm on the belief that Debbie's action here isn't as bad. Franny has a fun day out with her grandad, and Liam almost dies. From what I've seen tho a large number of people don't have this opinion. Why does fiona get more grace ? Because she's more conventionally attractive than Debbie!! (Not saying Debbie isn't attractive) Fiona with her slim body, full lips, sharp jaw line are much easier to forgive than Debbie's rounder face, red hair and freckles. V gets called a 'bad mother' most when she is going through postpartum depression. She has an extremely valid reason to be distant with her children. Still, when fiona acts unkindly towards Debbie when she's pregnant, it's fi who gets more leeway. Both v and fiona are extremely attractive, so why does fiona get away with more ?? Because people sympathise more with the white women. Fionas pretty privilege is only intensified by the fact she has white privilege also.
I might make a part two on this cause I think I have more to say, but this is it for now. I had never really thought about this before a couple of weeks ago, so my opinion isn't as defined and solid as it normally is. Can u tell ??

Girl I gotta tell you about the most batshit conversation I had last night. I should mention that we had weed/alcohol/❄️ in our systems so she very well could have been off her rocker and making half of this shit up, but it was so damn elaborate I had to share lol.
I Was at a party in New York and was talking with this girl who’s a friend of a friend. I wouldn’t necessarily call her a normie because she does have a bit of a following, but she’s definitely not a widely known person and has like a salaried job lol. Somehow Taylor comes up and the girl super casually goes “oh I used to know Taylor” and I’m automatically like ??? expand on that please.
She goes on to tell me she was working for Vogue at the time (2016) and was somehow involved with Taylor’s May cover. She said they got to talking and found out they had a couple mutual friends, one of which was ruby rose. She allegedly told Taylor about how she was going to Coachella with ruby and Taylor said she was going too and they planned to meet up there. She said she went to the house Taylor was renting for Coachella to party and she said Taylor got really fucked up and was talking shit about Calvin and todrick hall was like defending him or something and Taylor got extremely pissed off and started crying and made him leave???
Fast forward to the summer she said they became like casual friends and hung out a few times when Taylor was in New York. She said she went to a party at Taylor’s place and she had a tattoo artist there and taylor got a white ink tattoo of cherries in her bikini area and it looked like absolute shit.
She said that fall she was at another party at her place and taylor was on another planet and skinny dipped/made out with a famous girlie (not one that is speculated about in terms of Gaylor) in the pool in front of like a dozen people.
Cara Delevigne allegedly OD’d at the Cornelia St place and taylor had her security administer narcan and refused to let them call an ambulance. Her security team took Cara to the hospital and taylor kept the party going
She said she met Joe once and he was extremely quiet and sat in the corner by himself taking rip after rip from a bong.
This was funny but she said Taylor’s cat scratched the shit out of her hand one night and Taylor gave her a thousand dollars???
The girl ended up moving to Paris in 2017 and they hung out once or twice more when they were both in New York but kind of lost touch and she hasn’t spoken to Taylor since 2019ish, but Taylor did gift her really great tickets to rep tour and she showed me a photo of them backstage.
A few other things she mentioned - allegedly cokelor is real and at least back then taylor loooved the snow. She also smoked what she described as a significant about of weed and was always stoned. I asked about Dianna/Lily/Karlie - she said she didn’t know anything for sure but taylor was always open about being attracted to women at least sexually and that Karlie’s boyfriend was always around. She also said Karlie’s sister hooked up with Taylor’s brother at a party???
Basically her consensus on Taylor was that what the public sees isn’t what she experienced and that Taylor is a hot hot mess and a little crazy. Again I personally don’t know if I believe all this but she did show me some photos with Taylor/from inside her home, so I do kinda believe she did know her in some capacity. It was just too bananas not to share.

How come Rooster Teeth's other shows do not get as much hate as RWBY does?
There are SEVEN Reasons why RWBY gets all this hate.
Hbomberguy lying. Prior to Hbomberguy's hate video? RWBY videos were ranking in tens and hundreds of thousands of views. Videos were mostly accurate. Then Hbomberguy made a 3-hour hate video that could be debunked with 5-10 minutes of google search. Everyone began hating RWBY because the bald neck-bearded man who made hate videos encouraged people to hate the writers and the show by spreading misinformation. And the people who did do the google searches were drowned out by mob mentality of ignorance, the mob ignorance that is hbomberguy's audience. And so that misinformation spread like wildfire. And from his hate video, others were inspired. MangaKamen was the next, who kept screaming that he was a victim of the RWBY Fandom and encouraged people to pay him to make anti-rwby hate videos in which he made his BS. As a result, anti-rwby videos swarmed youtube, drowning out the positivity. And hatred grows on Youtube and Twitter. And you don't want to wade through several tons of hate videos just to reach a good RWBY Video or channel. So Hbomberguy created an atmosphere of hate that drowns out positivity.
2. Money Hatred is a popular business. Just ask the various hate groups funded by JK Rowling's video game Hogwarts Legacy. Ask the GOP who fleece their constituents for money. Ask the youtubers who make hate video after video, not only pulling in youtube ad revenue, but also promoting a patreon so that their followers can pay them to hate further. Judgmental Critter has been called out by many for using RWBY over all her "other content" in making money. type in RWBY without using a channel blocker extension on your phone or youtube browser. All you'll see is that hate. Celtic Phoenix demanded money to make a fixit fanfic in which he promotes the patriarchy and toxic masculinity. Hate, lies money....all created through hating on RWBY.
3. Misogyny You knew this would be brought up. I will die on the hill that the reason so many neckbeards hate RWBY is because: It took a very fanservice concept (girls fighting monsters) and gave them stories, personalities, development, and Bechdel-passing relationships, while it took two male power fantasies (gritty edgelord who uses prolific violence and morally grey actions to pursue a noble goal, and tactical mastermind who makes difficult sacrifices for The Mission) and made them failures. It gave women the roles typically held by men. It eliminated mansplaining and made MEN, instead of women, the target of "Reason why you suck" speeches. It made women equal to men in brains and brawn. It took toxic masculinity and shat on it. Many men and women who defend the patriarchy and spit at feminism were furious at RWBY being a genuinely feminist show. So much so, they spread lies and attacked the writers and VAs. Vexed Viewer harassed Barbara Dunkelman. TheFloofArtist harassed both Barbara Dunkelman AND Arryn Zech, by spamming gore and snuff fanart towards the VAs. Judgmental Critter harassed Arryn Troche. Fatman Falling stalked and harassed a girl who talked on Twitter about liking RWBY. Hbomberguy repeatedly harassed miles and kerry. EruptionFang publicly lied and said that Miles and Kerry were bullied by fans into providing "crotch snot". Four female protagonists. The men are just side characters to serve the women's roles. When people say that their "fanfiction is better than the show" You won't see female protagonists by themselves. No, you'll see them as arm candy to a white male savior protagonist who tells women that they suck and saves the day with the power of toxic masculinity while straightwashing every woman in sight. White Male OCs....doesn't quite work well in the later volumes, which is why many people hate the post-beacon era, because the non-school setting focuses on women and takes away chances for the white straight male self-insert.
4. Being an asshole/Victim Complex For RWBY Haters, the ability to lie, hate, harm, and all the while claim they are victims. It brings out the worst in people online. The horrible pleasure people take in destroying what a small company has worked so hard to make. The desire to rant and complain and insult a show and its fandom while calling yourself a fan as some sort of shield to defend oneself from being called a hater in the same breath as telling people to stop watching RWBY or saying"rwby bad". The insistence that you cannot enjoy a show unless you tear it apart and refuse to give a fair respectful positive take. Look on youtube comments and you will see RWBY Critics harassing RWBY Fans. Look on Twitter, and see men and women attacking the animators and writers. Now putting words in dead man's mouth is nothing new, just ask GOP. But the RWBY Haters deify Monty because Hbomberguy used said dead man, who Hbomb insulted while alive, in order to be awful. That's why rwby haters use the word "toxic positivity". They want to make it seem that their victims are the evil ones, to silence them from speaking up. Its why "Valid criticism" is BS. Its an excuse used to spread hatred and call that hatred "criticism". MangaKamen makes yearly videos insulting RWBY. ONE PERSON insulted him...ONE. He screamed bloody murder and accused the entire fandom. The word "toxic positivity" means that anyone defending RWBY is unable to take criticism, and that anyone speaking up is toxic. While "valid criticism" means that the worst lies against RWBY and the fandom can be seen as legitimate, which again allows people to be their worst selves. Men and women alike have the power to be this inhumane. Worst part is that you don't even have to be conservative to be this evil. Have you noticed how much RWDE and R/RWBYCritics love to be "holier than thou" with their attitudes and act as if they are "saving others from RWBY" and its fandom?
5. Homophobia. Bumbleby is basically Korrasami but better. It introduces the interest in each other sooner. It has the women talk to each other and support each other. Both the writers and animators and even Voice Actresses all support Bumbleby. Its completely opposite from ATLA where the VAs supported the toxic ship that is Zutara. But? Two women can spend entire seasons together, people will call them "just friends" but a man expresses interest in a woman and talks to her for several minutes? "Its true love". Even better, Coeur Al Aran, who admits to never watching RWBY and makes fixit fanfics that replace women with men as protags and straightwashes everything? He saw adam cut off yang's arm, and decided to make an adam fanfic where adam sleeps with yang and blake is abusive to adam. The hatred of adam and jaune fanfic writers towards bumbleby is so toxic, those who write jaunexteam rwby or adam fanfics have mostly been found to be homophobic/misogynistic. Despite all of Yang and Blake's interactions, people insist that Sun is "entiteld" to Blake, and that Yang and Blake's relationship came out of nowhere...or is "woke and pandering". Also, if you've seen that hentai artists on twitter LOVE to make fanart of a male self-insert with lesbians.... Its a sick fetish of theirs, and its not just RWBY that suffers this, but Honkai Star Rail suffered that from HimeHingHoi or some artist who drew a white male self-insert knocking up two lesbians.
6. Headcanons- "Your show isn't doing what I imagined it to be doing, and since its not doing what I think its supposed to be doing, that makes it bad" Adam introduced trying to kill civilians in the black trailer and in season 2 tells Cinder that he will persuade the White Fang to keep dying for her cause. People are angry that in V3 he is an irredeemable mass murdering psycho. Ironwood introduced as a man who merges huntsmen system into his own private army, gets ozpin fired by going behind oz's back, and weaponizes the human soul into an android that he uses the vytal festival to test. And despite having two seats of power, does nothing to help others. People furious that he became a paranoid dictator. Ruby and Yang: Introduced as sisters, confirmed as half-sisters by monty. We see that Taiyang is the father of both. QrowxSummer shippers: Livid that the writers repeatedly state that Qrow is not and never will be Ruby's father, and so they pretend to be illiterate and not able to tell the difference between step-sisters and half-sisters because they're so delusionally obsessed that the writers should lie to them for a garbage theory and ship. Just because somebody watches the show, doesn't mean that the writers should do what they demand of them. Blacksun shippers love to claim that the writers were bullied into Bumbleby, but said writers and VAs said Bumbleby was planned from the start. RWBY Critics were bloodthirsty when Barbara basically put blacksun and jaunexblake and jaunexyang headcanons 6 feet under into the grave. Just because the show doesn't do what you think it should? Does not mean its bad. So many haters are ridiculously self-entitled.
7. Corruption and Revision- "I fell in love with what RWBY Could Have Been" People didn't want a show about female lgbt protagonists. They wanted a show where they can fetishize women being damsels in distress needing a straight white male character to guide them. RWBY gives a giant middle finger to the straight white male protagonist and to the patriarchy and to straight-shipping. So when they say "the fanfiction is better" or they promote a rewrite, or they say "the porn is better"... it all comes down to their straight white male OCs... it comes down to their revenge fantasies against female characters (one loser made a wrestler OC comic where his Male OC beat up women)... It comes down to their fixit-fanfics that put men on a pedestal and put women under the bootheel of the men they glorify. Their idea of "wasted potential" or "ruined potential" involves tearing apart what makes RWBY great, and remaking it in their sick twisted image. Just look to the GOP for real life example, or Galactic Empire for fictional example.
And here you have your answer. The Seven Reasons RWBY Haters exist.
Edit: Just had a chat with a nice lady on Reddit, and she gave me another way of thinking about things.
"Media that's come out of patriarchal societies (so, the overwhelming majority of all media) tends centers the perspective of males by default. Ditto cisheteronormativy, ethonationalism, ableism, etc., resulting in predominantly cisgender heterosexual neurotypical protagonists belonging to the ethnic majority.
And if you grow up as a cis straight white boy in America, you don't even notice.
And if you grow up as anyone else, then your options are either to learn how to empathize with characters who don't look like you, or, to pass on this whole "Media" thing altogether.
So while I can sit through 5 seasons of Better Call Saul and still call it some of the best television I've ever seen, a man who's never learned how to empathize with characters from backgrounds different from his own can't even approach something like She-Ra.
It's incredibly noticeable when boys- for instance- refuse to play TLOU2 after the inciting incident, or people angry at those who think Persona games should bring back female player characters.
The way forward is more representation, all the time, forever. And you can tell a lot about a person by how much the preceding sentence contorted their face into a contempting scowl"

WHY GOD WHY COULDN’T THEY TREAT ALL THEIR CHARACTERS WITH RESPECT. The source material is endlessly fascinating and riddled with interesting storylines that can be followed and or improved upon(within reason) . Like you have the knight without honor whose only true light is a queen who he can never have. A woman whose life is tied to the men around her, which is her circumstance but she does nothing to try to help or ruin them but laments her part in everything. And i’m not saying the story can’t be built upon the relationship between rhaenyra and alicent.
It’s a great place to start. START. It can’t be just about them. Why don’t we see Jaeharys and the pressure he feels as a bastard and a possible future king. What about halaenas mental state her visions, and the fact she lost a whole child. And how come all of a sudden Aemond is kinslaying psychopath whose only goal is to become king, is there no internal conflict. Where’s that remorse and horror we saw at the end of season 1. Aegon is being made fun of every second and being ignored (and before u come at me i know he is a pos rapist, not defending him) nobody sees him as a threat even though he is QUITE LITERALLY THE KING.
Alicent is on her sad girl bs. And I LIKE ALICENT. Do you know how hard it is to make me dislike a character I originally loved. I thought her character was heading into an interesting direction feeling guilt and remorse about her actions because it is against everything she believes in. Because AGAIN they have hammered into the viewers that she is a religious. But she just becomes whishy washy. And not an active participant.
And don’t get me started on our titular protagonist a one Rhaneyra Targaryen. Have I mentioned my dislike at the obvious bias towards team black. Also why are there teams why is everything black and white. I don’t know about yall but I thought the whole point was there is no good and evil and that killing your family for a crown is wrong and morally unjust so therefore anyone participating in the war (as in anyone who has a choice, not the small folk forced to fight and stuff) is already not the greatest person. So i don’t know why they are acting like Rhaneyra is the goddamn messiah. They’re trying to make her a Daenerys variant. She’s not Dany and she shouldn’t be forced to be. Like their trying to make her a reasonable person who only wants best for people around her but she is also someone actively participating in a war with DRAGONS and as everyone keeps repeating there isn’t a war as bloody as one with dragons. And look i love a little hypocrisy in my characters i eat it up but this is ridiculous. You want a war so be in it. And if you don’t want to work with some people tough shit, you need others to get things done. And god forbid they challenge you on anything.
And look I tried to ignore it as much as i could but, do they hate men. Like genuinely asking, because every man in this show with the exception of like 2 characters is immensely unlikeable. And i’m not saying you can’t have unlikeable men. But like it’s a bit of a pattern. The women are the ones trying to avoid war and the men are all gung ho to lose their lives. Like i think they were trying to be feminist by making the women the only reasonable ones and men unreasonable. But they were so feminist that it came around to being misogynistic. Which i didn’t think could happen. And this being pseudo medieval time period with misogyny and all that it seems like there are parts where they are just like forcing patriarchy and other parts it does not seem to exist. Like equality is the norm and patriarchy is the outlier. Like there were women in charge of houses, which is not abnormal in of itself but like they don’t explain it. Like they could’ve been like the lord of that house is ill and his lady-wife takes care of everything. Or been like she’s in the fighting because she has a talent for it and is a bastard. Like I don’t know if any of you have seen the show Black Sails but one of the characters Eleanor basically runs pirate island and that doesn’t make sense because it the 1700’s but it’s explained that her father put her in charge because she was raised there and had a mind for business. And I know it’s a sad thing to be like a woman can only have power in proximity to a man. But like aren’t they going for realism, that’s what was so intriguing about the game of thrones universe. How people given shit circumstances rise above them. And some of these people happen to be women. If this was like one of those comfy fantasy with like fantasy creatures and like loose plots and there aren’t really rules and modern sensibilities are ingrained then I could dig it. Like yah you go girl be a pirate and you be a merchant and you are an advisor to the king. abut this isn’t that. And I can already see how an argument can be made that the entire show is overcoming the circumstances of your birthright being taken because you are a woman. Which I will reply that like I said earlier in order to do that they need the women to have agency and push for it or let it go. Which is options that Rhaneyra has.
And maybe i’m wrong and all those loose plot threads and bizarre character choices will payoff in season 3 and i’ll be the weirdo who doubted them.

London Derby (leah williamson x reader)
Summary: Your relationship with Leah is going smoothly until the day when you have to watch her play against the team you’ve supported since childhood finally arrives
———
There’s a photograph that takes pride of place on the mantelpiece at your parents’ house of you, aged six at the time, standing beside your brother, both of you wearing identical claret football shirts with pale blue sleeves. You’ve been a West Ham fan your entire life, you probably came out of the womb already cheering for the Hammers, so engrained is your love for your team. You watched the men’s team growing up, then, more recently, you started to follow the women too.
It was a surprise to nobody more than yourself when you fell in love with somebody who is as much of an Arsenal fan as you are a West Ham fan. And not just an Arsenal fan, an Arsenal player. Maybe even a future Arsenal captain.
But you love Leah, and loving her means wanting to see her succeed. Wanting Arsenal to succeed.
So you reluctantly took the Arsenal Women’s team as your second team. You share a playful rivalry with Leah over your opposing London clubs, while cheering her on diligently from the sidelines or through the television screen whenever she plays.
Whenever she plays a team other than West Ham.
“I’ll cheer for you against every team but one,” you promised her, when she presented you with your first ever Arsenal jersey, red and white with “Williamson” printed on the back.
“West Ham?” she asked, although she already knew the answer.
“I love you, but I don’t think I could bring myself to root for another team when my Hammers are on the same pitch.”
You thought it would be easy to compartmentalise. You’d cheer for West Ham, while obviously being delighted for Leah if Arsenal won on the day.
But when the day of the match comes, you feel more conflict than you could have possibly expected. Your desire to see your beloved West Ham triumph today conflicts with the longer term wish to see your girlfriend lift the WSL trophy at the end of the season - in the grand scheme of things, a loss today won’t affect West Ham’s overall season much at all, while every point counts for Arsenal, who lead the league by the narrowest of margins with Chelsea not far behind.
You sit with the West Ham fans, your brother beside you in his jersey that matches yours, just like that photo from twenty years ago, but the cheers and applause you give as the players walk out onto the pitch in two neat lines are in equal parts for Leah as they are for the West Ham girls.
She doesn’t look for you in the crowd, she never does, but especially not today, instead staring straight ahead with her resolute game face, unsmiling as the teams shake hands then disperse to their respective ends of the pitch in preparation for the start of the game.
Your nerves calm as the whistle blows and the players kick off, both teams using the opening minutes to settle into the game. Arsenal controls much of the possession, with Leah a solid figure in central defence, while West Ham make the most of the opportunities they get to press and counter.
You can do this, you think, as you relax. It’s a win-win situation. Either your team wins, or your girlfriend does. It’s easy.
That is, until about twenty minutes into the game. When Mackenzie Arnold tips a long range shot from Beth over the crossbar, Katie steps up to take the resulting corner and Arsenal crowd almost all their other players into the box. Leah, as tall as she is, moves up the pitch to join in, hustling in amongst the opposition defence.
Katie raises her left hand, then fires the ball into the box. It finds an Arsenal head, exactly which one you aren’t sure, then the goalie’s glove, then there’s a mad scramble as Arsenal players try to nudge the ball into the back of the net while their West Ham counterparts defend with their lives.
Time seems to stand still, your heart in your mouth, as the ball somehow finds its way to Leah’s feet, and with the goalkeeper still on the floor from the last save, Leah virtually has an open net at the near post, but a last ditch attempt at defending from a West Ham player is enough to put Leah off and she pokes the ball just wide with the tip of her boot.
As a central defender, Leah doesn’t score many goals and that was as clear a chance as she could ever have asked for.
The players run back to their positions, and you can see from the stands how frustrated your girlfriend is with herself. Kim puts a hand on Leah’s shoulder and says something to her as they reset for the goal kick, but you can tell Leah’s still not happy. The game has been a tight one - if Arsenal don’t get a win in the end, if the game, or even the title race, comes down to that one moment, Leah won’t be able to forgive herself.
You had joked with Leah before the game, perhaps knowing that goalscoring opportunities for your girlfriend would be unlikely, telling her that the only way you would accept an Arsenal win today would be if she scored the only goal.
Now, you realise that was stupid, that Leah’s happiness is always going to be more important than your own. You don’t care who scores, as long as Arsenal get the three points.
The rest of the first half is pretty even again, no clear cut chances for either side, and though you allow yourself to get swept up in a few chants with the other West Ham fans that surround you, you’re not disappointed by the large zero next to your club’s crest on the electronic scoreboard as the whistle blows and the teams go in for half time.
Arsenal come out stronger in the second half. You make a mental note to ask Leah later what was said in the dressing room, especially when a clever ball through to Stina from Viv exposes West Ham’s defence a couple of minutes after play resumes and the Swedish forward only just misses the target with her shot.
They continue pretty relentlessly, staying on the attack, desperate for the goal that even you, decked out in full claret attire, have to admit that Arsenal deserve. West Ham are tiring, certainly not helped when Jonas turns to his bench for fresh legs to reinforce his side. You cheer as the substitutes are made, earning a disappointed tut and an eye roll from your brother beside you, not because you’re cheering for the new players that enter the pitch, but because when Kim leaves the field she passes the captain’s armband to Leah.
You might imagine it, but you swear Leah carries herself slightly differently when she wears the armband. You’ve noticed it for England too, like the weight of the captaincy doesn’t burden her, but instead makes her stand stronger, lift her head up.
It’s very sexy.
The only thing better than seeing your girl as a captain is the pass she picks out a couple of minutes later when the ball finds itself at her feet, a beautiful long ball that soars diagonally across the pitch and finds Viv, who controls it down, flicks it past the last defender, then slots it into the bottom corner beyond the keeper’s outstretched glove.
You barely restrain yourself from cheering, aware of the disappointed West Ham fans that surround you, but you applaud the effort, your heart swelling with pride as you know that it was Leah’s vision to pick out that pass that has more than made up for the missed chance earlier in the game, earning herself an assist and Arsenal the lead.
Arsenal puts the game to rest in stoppage time, doubling their lead with an effortless tap-in from Caitlin just moments before the referee’s final whistle, two goals sealing the three points they need to stay top of the league.
Leah finally relaxes now that the game is over and she’s secured the win. She’s always so stoic and focused during a game, but she celebrates with her teammates with a smile on her face that has your heart fluttering in your chest, even from where you watch her in the crowd.
“Go on,” says your brother, elbowing you in the ribs to nudge you out of your trance as you watch Leah shake hands with the opposition on her way to the ring of Arsenal girls that starts to form around the coaches. “I’ll wait for you in the car. Go and congratulate your girl.”
When the team huddle is over, the Arsenal players disperse and start to make their way around the perimeter of the pitch, thanking fans for their support. You hang back from the edge of the pitch, letting the younger fans who crowd the advertising boards have their turn as the players sign shirts and pose for photographs.
Katie is the first one to notice you, clapping to the fans as she does a lap with Beth, and she does a double take when she recognises you.
“What’s that your wearing?” she calls out, as Beth pauses to take selfies with a few young girls in Arsenal shirts.
You glance down at your West Ham shirt before grinning back at Katie.
“I’m not sorry!” you shout back, feeling more brazen about your choice of outfit than you would have done had Arsenal not just won all three points. “West Ham’s in my blood.”
“I’m not having that,” Katie responds, grinning and shaking her head. “I’m telling her to dump ya!”
Your laugh is only brief, because you spot Leah making her way around the edge of the pitch not too far behind Katie.
Truth be told, you’re more than happy to stand back as Leah interacts with the fans. She’s in her element and you love watching her, the simple act of greeting the fans highlighting so many of the things that you love about Leah - how considerate and humble she is, how she tries to be a good rolemodel to young girls. And, even though you won’t admit this one out loud, how obviously proud she is to represent the Arsenal badge.
You see the exact moment that she spots you. Her eyes are on you for just a split second but her whole demeanour changes, probably unnoticeable to anybody who doesn’t know her as well as you, a smirk playing with the corners of her mouth as she turns around to pose for a selfie with another group of fans.
You wait your turn, watching as Leah thanks a group of teenagers for coming to the game and signs an England shirt for one of them. While the girls are giddy to have met their idol, you simply smile as Leah finally turns her attention to you.
Like Katie, her gaze drops to your West Ham top and scarf, but all she says is, “Hi.”
“Hey, you,” you grin at her. “You got time for a picture with a fan?”
“Wearing that?” Leah scoffs. “Not a chance.”
She keeps a straight face for just a couple of seconds, before she breaks into a soft smile that only you can induce from her and plucks your phone from your hand.
You snake an arm around her back across the advertising board that stands between you, your fingers giving her waist a tiny squeeze, then press your body into her side as she snaps the selfie.
“You played well,” you tell her, as she returns your phone and you slide it back into your pocket. “I’m proud of you. That assist was something else.”
She smiles shyly, and you know she’s far too humble to acknowledge that her pass to set up Viv’s goal was what changed the game for Arsenal.
Which is why you decide to tease her about the missed shot in the first half.
“Although that chance you had from the corner…”
“Don’t,” Leah groans, closing her eyes and you force her to recall a moment you know she will want to cleanse from her memory.
“Babe, it was so kind of you to keep my team in the game by missing a chance like that but I’d still have been happy if you scored.”
“You’re not gonna let me live that down, are you?” Leah asks, arching an eyebrow at you.”
“Not at all,” you grin.
———
She gets you back that evening. As you both get ready for bed, you step out of the bathroom to find her sitting on the edge of the bed with her phone in her hand, a smug grin on her face.
“What have you done?”
“Nothing,” Leah replies. “You look nice.”
You’re wearing a pair of flannel pyjama bottoms and one of her Arsenal hoodies. You’re not falling for her attempt at distraction.
“What have you done?” you repeat.
“Nothing. Well, nothing bad.”
Your own phone, lying on top of the covers on your side of the bed, buzzes and the screen lights up, revealing a string of new notifications, most of them from Instagram. You open the app, surprised to see that you seem to have gained a few hundred new followers in the ten minutes you were in the bathroom. You quickly find the reason though, when you recognise the first photo in your feed as the selfie that Leah took with you after her match today.
You roll your eyes as you read the caption under the picture.
Big 3 points on the road 🔴⚪️ Always grateful for the fans, even if some of them support the wrong team ❤️
She’s tagged you in it, no doubt the reason for the influx of new followers, but it’s the comments that catch your eye, fans speculating about the nature of Leah’s relationship with you.
You’ve never hidden your relationship with Leah, nor have either of you ever broadcasted it. The people who matter know and it’s not Leah’s style to blast her social media full of relationship PDA. But that’s why this gesture means so much - it’s probably as close as Leah will get to publicly confirming that she’s in a relationship and the fact that she’s picked this photo, one where you’re proudly wearing the colours of a team that aren’t Arsenal, touches your heart. In posting this photo, Leah’s message to her followers is that you are somebody important to her. Her message to you is that she loves you for exactly who you are, even if who you are is a West Ham fan.
“You know, there’s a transfer window coming up,” you tease. “I think you’d look good in claret…”
Leah knocks your phone out of your hand and climbs on top of you, pinning you to the mattress as she nuzzles her face into your neck.
“Not a chance, babe.”
