Poll - who is the smoothest? Henry or Matthew

In both Downton Abbey and A Discovery of Witches, Henry and Matthew give Mary and Diana their calling card & try to smooth-talk them. However, their approach is somewhat different.

Henry goes straight to the lunch invite:

"Telephone me. We'll have lunch, or a drink, or something."

(That last bit cracked me up 😆)

While Matthew tries to butter up Diana by praising her research. This is oddly very hot but probably because of Matthew Goode's honeyed tones and pregnant pauses:

"I found your article on the color symbolism of alchemical transformation fascinating, and your work on Robert Boyle’s approach to the problems of expansion and contraction was quite persuasive. You have a wonderful way of evoking the past for your readers."

In the book Matthew adds "Might I buy you dinner?" so gets to the same result as Henry but by a much more indirect route 😆 (but is Diana much impressed?).

So, which seduction technique would have you weak at the knees? Henry's straight talking or Professor Clairmont sciency talk?

I adore Henry, he is utterly dashing and charming and his 'or something' lets the imagination run wild (you can see it in Mary's eyes her interest has perked up lol). But I have to go for MdC, all that intellectual talk in honeyed tones + the whiff of danger 🫠🫠🫠

Really?

Well, if this is true, we know that Matthew Goode is busy filming [Department Q for Netflix] soooo guessing Julian Fellowes will have to be creative to solve the 'Henry' question. So what will they do? OMG not another motor show 🤦 Sorry guys, but being realistic they will probably have to divorce him from Mary or bump him off somehow coz Matthew is just never available. Guess we have to wait and see.
