- A note on graphics/headers/moodboards. Although I try very hard to make RC’s as physically vague as possible, I make moodboards and headers for myself. I hope that everyone is able to picture themselves as my RC’s, and like everyone, I too do the same and picture myself when I read and write. I understand if this makes a story unappealing to some readers, and if this is the case, please pass on my stories. I make graphics exclusively for myself and to please myself. Images of women in graphics are not representative of how an RC is described or portrayed in my stories.
Below are some things that I shall not write. I will preface this by saying that I am quite impossible to offend, and I will happily discuss any ideas or concepts with you. I also enjoy reading some content with the following themes from some of my favorite writers, and it is not uncommon that other writers’ content that involves these themes will appear on my blog. However, writing requires an investment of time, so I will not be writing my own content on these themes because they are less appealing to me personally.

Making a Memory (12/12) Epilogue
This is it guys! The final chapter. More of an epilogue. But it's finally done! I'm so grateful for everyone who has encouraged me to write this story and for those that have written wonderful comments about it. I could never have imagined such a response when I originally just had a Parent Trap idea that then turned into a cursed Emma and Killian idea.
Thank you so much to @profdanglaisstuff and @thisonesatellite for being my betas on this. You two and @mariakov81 encouraged me so much to write this and I couldn't imagine it would turn into this great big MC when I did.

And thank you to the @cssns for having this event so I actually had a reason to write this instead of just having the idea in my head.
So without further ado, the epilogue to Making a Memory.

It always amazed Alice that in her Papa’s cursed persona he obviously still had the love for the ocean but had never rented a boat and taken her out on a cruise around the Boston Harbor. She could see how much he’d missed it when Henry came back from the Enchanted Forest a few months after the curse had broken, with the Jolly Roger. It was the least he could do after having lost it in the first place, Henry had said as if it were no big deal (although Alice saw him patching himself up later on, the cuts and bruises from an obvious sword fight he’d had to endure to get the Jolly Roger back).
The first time Killian took them out on the water, he dressed himself in his full Captain Hook ensemble. Emma had laughed an almost girlish laugh and blushed, something that horrified both Hope and Henry, but Alice thought it was cute. Henry may have been there for their parents' romance originally, and Hope may not have cared much for it, but Alice loved finally having two parents that were so hopelessly in love. Although, Alice wished her Papa had a few more buttons done up. She supposed that was just the fashion for pirates in the Enchanted Forest.
Their first trip happened the following spring. Killian spent the entire winter fixing the Jolly Roger up on the weekends (when the weather permitted), as he and Emma had gone back to being deputies since they’d returned. There was obviously already a sheriff, seeing as Emma had been gone for twelve years, but Sheriff Javert welcomed them back, having remembered them from before they’d been cursed, and because he felt the Three Musketeers weren’t the best deputies (too many hijinx for his taste). Regina putting in a good word for them not only as the mayor, but as Javert’s girlfriend, didn’t hurt either.
And so it became a tradition for the Swan-Jones/Mills family to take a cruise around Storybrooke’s harbor every weekend once the weather permitted.
Alice could still remember how overwhelming it had been to meet everyone for the first time; her shyness and anxiety ramping up as they’d walked down to the center of town, the orange moon hanging in the air (Alice didn’t know if she’d ever be able to see the Harvest Moon without Gothel hanging in front of it ever again). A large amount of people had been milling around, hugging each other and screaming as if they hadn’t seen each other in a long time. Alice guessed they hadn’t really. Even if they’d seen each other everyday, they hadn’t really seen each other. Just like their parents hadn’t known who the other was until their memories had broken through.
Alice recognized Snow White and Prince Charming right off the bat, not only from the illustrations in Henry’s books, but from the old photographs in Henry’s photo album that she and Hope loved to look through. Their parents had purposefully avoided running into them when they’d permanently moved there. Something about it being too painful to not see any recognition in their eyes. They turned around, both of their eyes glittering with tears as they had slowly approached Emma. Snow had taken her daughter’s chin in her hands, tears streaming from both of them, and then enveloped her in a huge hug.
“You found us.” Snow had cried, and Emma let out a breath she probably hadn’t even known she’d been holding as David joined them in the hug, cradling Emma’s head with his hand. The whole town seemed to applaud their reunion and the end of the curse breaking. Alice may have gotten a little teary-eyed over the whole thing.
Of course, they were just Grandma and Grandpa now. Alice still found it weird that she had grandparents, and that they were around the same age as her own parents.
“Still think you can captain this ship, old man?” Snow and David had arrived, and David never could stop ribbing Killian about how he finally looked his age. I don’t look 300 years old, mate! he’d reply, always trying to suppress a smile. Alice knew he actually liked the ribbing. Also, her Papa was over 300-years-old. Weird.
“If he’s an old man then so are you, Dad,” Emma said, coming up from below deck. She had put her hair back in a simple braid, just like Alice and Hope had, so their hair didn’t get tangled during the trip. “Here Mom, let me help you with that food.” Snow, as Alice and Hope had discovered, loved to cook, and usually cooked enough to leave them leftovers for weeks.
“Don’t worry about it, Emma.” She said, handing off some of the plastic containers to her. “Neal and Eva have everything else. They’re right behind me.” Of course, twelve years later Emma’s baby brother would be sixteen (they’d just recently celebrated his seventeenth birthday that past May), but discovering that she now had an eleven-year-old sister had been a huge shock. I must have been pregnant with her when Gothel enacted the curse. Snow had told Emma almost guiltily.
Alice was hiding out up in the crow’s nest, a favorite place of hers. She could still see and hear everything, but sometimes the throng of her family felt suffocating. A hand clasped hers which put Alice at ease. She hadn’t even heard Hope come up. “You doing okay?” Hope asked.
“Can you believe it’s been a year since we met?” Alice said, avoiding the question Hope had asked her. It was the cause for the festivities this weekend. While they did go out each weekend on the Jolly, there usually wasn’t this much pomp and circumstance (or food) to go along with it.
“I hated you so much.” Hope giggled. It seemed almost impossible that she could have ever hated her sister.
“Well, you weren’t such a walk in the park either,” Alice joshed back, nudging her with her shoulder slightly.
“Girls!” Emma called from the deck, the food having been all set up buffet style. “Come on down and eat before Dad takes the ship out.” Alice and Hope looked at each other, hands still clasped and floated down from the crow’s nest.
“Always showing off.” Regina mumbled, setting up her lasagna on the table, while Mary Margaret fussed over them like she always did. It was like she was trying to make up for all the years they’d been separated every single time they saw each other. Hope was kind of annoyed by it, never having cared for being fussed over, but Alice secretly loved it.
“Look how big you two are getting. I swear you’ve grown two inches since I last saw you. We’ll have to go shopping again” Mary Margaret gushed.
“You just saw us yesterday, Grandma.” Hope rolled her eyes as she let go of Alice’s hand and headed over to the table to grab some food.
The twins’ 14th birthday had arrived a week after they’d defeated Gothel and Mary Margaret had literally bought out the few clothing stores in town with anything that fit them. Alice had never been so doted on in her life. You realize that if we were in the Enchanted Forest we’d be getting you ready for your first royal balls. Snow had sighed during the shopping trip. She insisted for their 16th birthday they would have a ball of some sort with real ballgowns and dancing. Alice was elated and Hope was horrified. Snow had just laughed about how much like her mother she was, and that she fell in love with their father at a ball, despite everything.
They all sat around on the deck stuffing their faces with delicious food. The kids and Henry all sitting together, watching and commenting on the adults. Like how Regina and Javert fought all the time, but that just apparently fueled their fire (ew). Or Snow and David always had an eye on the other one no matter where they were. Or how Killian was always stroking a lock of Emma’s hair and she loved playing with the hair on the nape of his neck (“Do they always have to be so obvious about it?” Hope complained. “You know you love it.” Henry retorted back.). They also teased Neal about his crush on Lexi Herman (apparently the daughter of Cinderella), and how he’d spectacularly been shot down when asking her to prom a few months ago (“She’s 20. In a few years the age difference won’t matter to her.” Henry had said matter-of-factly.).
After everyone finished eating and the food was packed away in the refrigerator that was in the Captain’s quarters (August had wired up the Jolly Roger with electricity as well), Killian took the Jolly out to cruise around Storybrooke Harbor. Killian had been teaching Alice and Hope how to steer the ship. Hope didn’t seem all that interested, but Alice was thrilled (must have had something to do with the whole manipulating water powers that she had). The weight of the ship’s wheel in her hands and the feel of the wooden planks beneath her feet had brought her a sense of comfort she’d never known in her life before. Her Papa had her guide the ship once they’re far enough from land for him to worry about her hitting anything (okay, so she hit the floating dock that one time…), and he went to stand by Emma as she looked out over the water.
After the battle and the curse ending it had been like starting over again. All of a sudden Hope and Alice had been thrust into the limelight. They’d gone from being those new twins from Boston to the twins who had magic and had defeated Gothel. The daughters of the Savior and Captain Hook. Alice could no longer meld into the background like she had been and Hope now had to deal with people wanting to be her friends who were less than genuine (although, she’d still managed to find a boyfriend in Lexi’s younger brother, Ryan). Their peers hadn’t grown up with magic like everyone else in the town had and it had affected many of the children who had no idea about the Enchanted Forest; unlike the previous curse in which all the children actually had their memories restored and knew about everything. Dr. Hopper had been very busy in helping children believe their background was actually rooted in fairy tales and that didn’t make them insane. The trips on the Jolly Roger helped ground Alice (which she found completely ironic), made her feel safe, and more in tune with reality.
Finding out that she had a twin had been strange enough, but finding out she was the granddaughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, the daughter of the Savior and Captain Hook, sister to the storybook author, and somewhat adjacently related to the Evil Queen was just plain out of this world. And Alice loved their family, but never in a million years would she have dreamed that she would have the large family she’d now acquired. After everything had been said and done, Hope told her she must have been a little psychic as well, after all, she had claimed to have dreamed about many of the people in the Enchanted Forest before Henry’s book had even been published. Hope almost seemed jealous that Alice had had their family with her long before she’d even known they existed.
“You’re doing wonderful, Starfish,” Killian said, extricating himself from Emma and coming back over to the wheel. “Why don’t you take a break and go hang out with your sister.” He ruffled her hair and gave her a peck on the top of her head. It was still a complete trip for her to imagine that her Papa had once been the notorious Captain Hook, even after seeing him in full pirate regalia.
She settled herself on a large amount of pillows where Hope and Henry were hanging out (Papa had a thing about pillows, lots and lots of pillows everywhere), but could still see the ocean. Alice could tell that Papa was getting ready to bring the Jolly back toward Storybrooke, so she leaned back and just watched the water fly by.
“So, a year, huh?” Henry asked right as she’d gotten herself comfortable. Both Alice and Hope turned their heads toward him, smiling.
“Was it as you thought it would be?” Hope wondered. “Finding us, getting us to believe, and fighting Gothel?”
“Honestly, I had a hundred different scenarios in my head as to how things could have gone. I’m just glad we all survived it and no one got hurt. I’m just glad I ended up with my dad and both of my sisters.” Henry was almost blushing. His sequel to Once Upon a Time had been another best seller. Emma’s Story had brought his audience into the modern world while already knowing the fairy tales were true. There was even talk about making his books into a movie or television series (Alice voted for television series, she couldn’t imagine how they’d get that much information into a movie). His last book in the series was going to be published in a few months, on their 15th birthday of all days. The story of how Lianna Jones and Faith Swan (names changed, obviously) had met at camp and then had come together to defeat Gothel while the beloved town of Storybrooke had no clue who they really were. Once Upon a Time: A Happy Beginning.
“I’m glad we survived too.” Hope said, rolling her eyes. “And I’m glad we have our entire family together. I always thought it would just be us and mom, I’m glad we got the full package deal.” She laughed as she really thought about it. “Who would have guessed that my urge to want to go to sleep away camp would end with me finding my long-lost twin and father?”
“Or that we’d be related to fairy tale characters.” Alice chimed in.
“And that we’d have magic.” Hope said as she created a green spark from her hand (green like her mother and grandmother’s eyes).
How different one year made. Last year all Alice and Hope had worried about was school and friends. Never in a million years would they have thought they would be surrounded by such a large family. Never in a million years would they have thought they’d have each other.
And at that thought, both girls stood up to look at their family on the ship (it still took them by surprise how in sync their thoughts were), the family that only a year ago they didn’t know they had. It almost brought tears to their eyes (yes, even Hope who had finally let some of those walls down to let love in). They both breathed in the salty sea air that they now associated with their father.
“What are you two up to?” asked Henry as he watched them from his spot on the deck.
“We’re making a memory,” they both answered. They smiled as they watched their mother lean in to give their father a kiss as he steered the ship back toward the dock.

FOM BLOG: GILLINGHAM 2-2 NORTHAMPTON TOWN
My Thoughts On Gillingham 2-2 Northampton Town…….
After Gillingham’s impressive 1-0 away win against Peterborough United at London Road On Tuesday Night, I was hoping that Gillingham can build on that impressive 1-0 win against Peterborough United by winning against relegation threatened Northampton Town At Priestfield Stadium on Saturday The 24th Of April 2021, There were three main reasons as to why I was hoping that Gillingham would win against Northampton Town ONE: Three points for The Gills would keep Gillingham’s “very very” slim playoff hopes alive for another week TWO: I was hoping that Gillingham can pick up back to back home wins in our final two home matches of the season against Northampton Town and Plymouth Argyle so that Gillingham would end The 2020 / 2021 Season with a very impressive home record at Priestfield Stadium AND THREE: Gillingham could still beat Justin Edinburgh’s points tally of sixty nine points, which Gillingham picked up in The 2015 / 2016 Season if Gillingham were to win the final three matches of the season.
And Gillingham Lined Up As Follows For Gillingham V Northampton Town,,,,,, Jack Bonham, Ryan Jackson, Robbie Cundy, Jack Tucker, Connor Ogilvie, Stuart O’Keefe, Kyle Dempsey, Alex MacDonald, Olly Lee, Vadaine Oliver, Dominic Samuel Substitutes: Sacha Bastien (GK), Robbie McKenzie, Tom O’Connor, Henry Woods, Tyreke Johnson, Jordan Graham and Gerald Sithole - John Akinde isn’t named in the match-day squad and that is a real shame because John Akinde put in a exceptional performance up-front for Gillingham against Peterborough United when Gillingham won 1-0 at London Road, John Akinde wasn’t included because of illness and Jordan Graham had just about recovered from illness himself to be named on the bench, Vadaine Oliver has recovered from his slight knock to start for Gillingham against his former club, And Dominic Samuel makes his first start for Gillingham since recovering from his long injury layoff.
Gillingham have to win and hope for results from elsewhere to go in our favour to give ourselves the best possible chance of sneaking into the playoff places in League One, and likewise, Northampton Town have to win and hope for results to go in there favour for Northampton Town to stand any chance of avoiding an instant relegation return to League Two, With both teams needing to win for different reasons, this should be a very end to end match, And I often find that when the match is more open, Gillingham tend to perform better, rather then trying to break the opposition down when teams are set up defensively to try and earn themselves a point.
And not only would Gillingham V Northampton Town be more of a end to end match, the importance of this match for both football clubs for entirely different reasons would have seen a very decent attendance inside Priestfield Stadium, And having not been to any of the matches live inside Priestfield Stadium or supporters being able to go to a away game, the atmosphere’s either home or away could have made more of a difference as the supporters would been the twelfth man, and the stats for this season show that the lack of home supporters have seen football clubs across all the divisions in The English Game record fewer home wins then in previous season’s, But I am hoping that Gillingham can make it back to back home league wins against Northampton Town and Plymouth Argyle, And Gillingham can end this season on a high note with back to back home wins at Priestfield Stadium - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!
FIRST HALF:
Four Minutes Into The Match, And Gillingham create the first goal-scoring opportunity, Gillingham have a throw on down The Gordon Road Stand Side Of The Pitch In Gillingham’s Half, And From The Resulting Throw On, Connor Ogilvie throws the ball long down the line and Vadaine Oliver wins the aerial challenge to flick the ball on towards Dominic Samuel inside Northampton Town’s Penalty Area, And Dominic Samuel manages to retain possession of the ball before looking around for passing options, And Dominic Samuel passed the ball out-wide towards Alex MacDonald, And Alex MacDonald takes a touch to control the ball before whipping in a dangerous in-swinging cross, and Fraser Horsfall manages to header the ball clear and away from danger, and Stuart O’Keefe wins the first aerial challenge to header the ball forwards and Peter Kioso headers the ball up towards the halfway line for the visitor’s and Connor Ogilvie wins the next aerial challenge to header the ball sideways towards Ryan Jackson, And Ryan Jackson manages to header the ball down the line towards Kyle Dempsey, But Shaun McWilliams manages to get to the ball first and keep the ball in play by back-healing the ball towards Sam Hoskins, And Sam Hoskins takes plenty of touches in possession of the ball before playing a short pass forwards towards Shaun McWilliams, And Shaun McWilliams gets the ball under control before trying to pick out Peter Kioso with a cross-field cross-pass, And Connor Ogilvie manages to nip in there to intercept the ball, And Connor Ogilvie continue’s his run forwards before passing the ball inside to Dominic Samuel in a central position on the pitch, And Dominic Samuel does brilliantly to retain possession of the ball despite being closely marked by Shaun McWilliams, And Dominic Samuel turns away from The Northampton Town Midfielder and passes the ball out-wide to Connor Ogilvie down the left side of the pitch in Northampton Town’s Final Third, And Connor Ogilvie gets the ball under control before firing in a dangerous low cross across the face of goal, and Lloyd Jones has sliced his clearance straight into Olly Lee’s Path, And Olly Lee gets the ball under control before seeing his shot towards goal blocked by Lloyd Jones and Peter Kioso passes the ball forwards to Bryn Morris and Northampton Town survive.
It’s a very brave and courageous block from Lloyd Jones after slicing his initial clearance into Olly Lee’s Path, But should Gillingham have been awarded a penalty kick because the contentious decision was whether Lloyd Jones had blocked the ball with his arm ??? I know I was appealing for a penalty kick to Gillingham at the time and Olly Lee was appalling for Gillingham to be awarded a penalty kick, But Referee Carl Brook didn’t look like for a moment he was going to point to the penalty spot, and despite the no penalty kick decision, Gillingham had made an encouraging start to the match so far.
And Five Minutes Into The Match, I thought the decision to penalise Robbie Cundy for his challenge on Mickel Miller was a soft decision, And it is from this free kick where Northampton Town should have opened the scoring, Joseph Mills has curled the ball over the wall and Joseph Mills curling free kick goes just wide of the far right post and Jack Bonham had scrambled across his goal-line to cover the right side of the goal, and that free kick from Joseph Mills is a reminder that Northampton Town are going to create meaningful goal-scoring opportunities, We can talk about Olly Lee’s shot towards goal being blocked by Lloyd Jones and should Gillingham have been awarded a penalty kick, but complaining about the penalty decision would have meant nothing if Joseph Mills had opened the scoring for Northampton Town from that free kick.
Eight Minutes Into The Match, And Gillingham have been awarded a throw on, and it is from this throw where Gillingham almost took the lead, Gillingham have a throw on down The Gordon Road Stand Side Of The Pitch In Gillingham’s Defensive Final Third, And From The Resulting Throw On, Connor Ogilvie hurls the ball long down the line towards the halfway line and Shaun McWilliams wins the aerial challenge up against Vadaine Oliver and Alex MacDonald’s long pass down the line is headed inside centrally by Shaun McWilliams and Stuart O’Keefe wins the fifty / fifty challenge up against Ryan Watson, And Stuart O’Keefe evades the attempted challenge from Sam Hoskins before passing the ball square to Ryan Jackson, And Ryan Jackson passes the ball back inside to Stuart O’Keefe, And Stuart O’Keefe spends too long in possession of the ball and this enables Ryan Watson to intercept the ball, But Ryan Jackson gets to the ricochet first and runs down the right flank in possession of the ball, And Ryan Jackson passes the ball out-wide to Kyle Dempsey, And Kyle Dempsey takes a touch to control the ball before threading a through-ball through to Olly Lee down the right side of the pitch in Northampton Town’s Final Third, and Olly Lee just about manages to keep the ball in play before pulling the ball back towards Alex MacDonald, and Alex MacDonald’s first time shot towards goal is brilliantly blocked by Lloyd Jones and the ricochet off The Northampton Town Defender deflects the ball out of play for A Gillingham Corner Kick.
And From The Resulting Corner Kick, Gillingham had the chance to open the scoring, Olly Lee whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross towards the far post and Jonathan Mitchell at full stretch has to punch the ball out of play for another Gillingham Corner Kick because Jack Tucker was unmarked at the far post, And from the second corner kick, Gillingham manage to open the scoring, Olly Lee whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross and Robbie Cundy wins the aerial challenge to header the ball on across the face of goal and the header across the face of goal from Robbie Cundy hits Dominic Samuel, and there is Vadaine Oliver unmarked at the far post to smash the ball into the back of the net from close range to give Gillingham the lead, and just like how Tom Eaves didn’t celebrate when he scored for Hull City against Gillingham, Vadaine Oliver also didn’t celebrate against Northampton Town when he gave Gillingham the lead after eleven minutes - GILLINGHAM 1-0 NORTHAMPTON TOWN.
Gillingham have had there chances to open the scoring with Olly Lee’s shot towards goal blocked by Lloyd Jones, Alex MacDonald’s shot towards goal was blocked and Olly Lee’s in-swinging cross from the resulting corner had to be punched out of play at full stretch by Jonathan Mitchell, And if Gillingham are going to create so many chances to open the scoring inside the opening eleven minutes of the match, then eventually Northampton Town’s Defence is going to fold under the pressure, and that goal from Vadaine Oliver is precisely what Gillingham needed, Especially as Northampton Town need to score twice to get the win they so desperately need to give themselves the best possible chance of avoiding relegation into League Two.
Thirteen Minutes Into The Match, And Ryan Watson has possession of the ball for Northampton Town in a central position on the pitch thirty yards from goal, And Ryan Watson takes a touch to control the ball before taking a few touches to set himself and Ryan Watson pretends to get a shot off on goal which tricks Alex MacDonald and Ryan Watson shifts the ball back on to his left foot and not only does Connor Ogilvie manage to nip in there to intercept the ball, But Connor Ogilvie is also fouled by Ryan Watson and The Northampton Town Midfielder is penalised and booked for his challenge on Connor Ogilvie - And that was fantastic defending from Connor Ogilvie to relieve the pressure building on to Gillingham’s Goal.
Fifteen Minutes Into The Match, And Gillingham have been awarded a throw on right in-front of the dugouts, and it is from this throw on where Gillingham could have doubled there lead and gone 2-0 up, Ryan Jackson hurls the ball long down the line and Fraser Horsfall wins the aerial challenge up against Olly Lee and Joseph Mills was about to boot the ball clear and away from danger before Olly Lee manages to nip in there to intercept the ball, And Olly Lee manages to retain possession of the ball before threading a pass through to Kyle Dempsey right by the byline in the far corner of The Brian Moore Stand / Medway Stand Side Of The Pitch, And Kyle Dempsey see’s his low cross towards the near post blocked by Lloyd Jones, who had crouched low to block the cross, And Lloyd Jones takes far too long in possession of the ball and Dominic Samuel intercepts the ball from Lloyd Jones right on the byline, And Dominic Samuel turns back on himself so that he is facing goal-wards, And Dominic Samuel’s low shot across the face of goal was turned around the far left post and Northampton Town Goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell must have got the faintest of touches on to the ball to divert the ball out of play for A Gillingham Corner Kick - A Fantastic Save from Jonathan Mitchell - But defending like that from Lloyd Jones gives us a explanation as to why Northampton Town are in The League One Relegation Zone, and watching that effort on goal from Dominic Samuel again, you can only applaud the save from Jonathan Mitchell, and had Dominic Samuel scored for 2-0, that would have put Gillingham in a fantastic position to pick up all three points.
And from the resulting corner kick, Olly Lee whips in a high and hanging cross towards the far post and Jack Tucker wins the aerial challenge to header the ball down and back across the face of goal and Fraser Horsfall makes the all important interception and Connor Ogilvie wins the aerial challenge to header the ball back to Jack Tucker, And Jack Tucker plays a shot pass back-wards towards Alex MacDonald, And Alex MacDonald whips in a dangerous high and hanging cross first time and Vadaine Oliver’s looping header was on target and Jonathan Mitchell makes a comfortable save in goal for Northampton Town.
Nineteen Minutes Into The Match, And Gillingham created another decent goal-scoring opportunity, And this goal-scoring opportunity was initially created from A Gillingham Long Throw As Ryan Jackson hurls in a long dangerous throw and Fraser Horsfall headers the ball clear towards the edge of Northampton Town’s Penalty Area, And Kyle Dempsey plays a first time pass out-wide towards Ryan Jackson, And Ryan Jackson takes a touch to control the ball before playing a short squared pass towards Kyle Dempsey in a left / central area on the pitch, And Kyle Dempsey takes a touch to control the ball before running inside centrally right on the edge of the penalty area as Kyle Dempsey takes on Peter Kioso, And Kyle Dempsey fires in a fiercely driven shot which Jonathan Mitchell was more then equal to with The Northampton Town Goalkeeper parrying the ball away from goal with a splendid save - Gills really could have done with Kyle Dempsey scoring with that effort on goal, Because 2-0 would have put Gillingham in a very strong position to pick up all three points.
Twenty One Minutes Into The Match, And Gillingham are in the ascendancy yet again, And again, this goal-scoring opportunity was created from A Gillingham Throw On, Ryan Jackson hurls in a long dangerous throw and Lloyd Jones wins the initial aerial challenge and Ryan Watson wins the second aerial challenge and Vadaine Oliver goes for the spectacular over-head kick and Vadaine Oliver doesn’t make contact with the ball and Olly Lee is first to the loose ball inside Northampton Town’s Penalty Area, And Olly Lee passes the ball back to Kyle Dempsey on the edge of the penalty area, And Kyle Dempsey plays a first time pass towards Olly Lee down the left side of Northampton Town’s Penalty Area, And Olly Lee is twisting and turning and Olly Lee manages a rabona cross and Lloyd Jones manages to header the ball out of play for A Gillingham Throw On Down The Gordon Road Stand / Brian Moore Stand Side Of The Pitch - Ryan Jackson’s long throw has caused Northampton Town more problems defensively and Gillingham really can do with that all important second goal, Because Gillingham are creating plenty of goal-scoring opportunities and The Gills really need to double there advantage, Because it only takes one effort on goal from the visitor’s to hit the back of the net, And Northampton Town are level at 1-1.
And that is almost precisely what happened In The Twenty Fifth Minute, Because Northampton Town really should have equalised for 1-1, Kyle Dempsey passes the ball back towards Stuart O’Keefe down the left side of the pitch in Gillingham’s Half, And Stuart O’Keefe passes the ball square to Jack Tucker, who takes a touch to control the ball, And Jack Tucker’s back pass towards Jack Bonham is woefully under-hit and Alex Jones is through on goal for Northampton Town and Alex Jones is one on one with Jack Bonham, And Alex Jones takes a touch to set himself before firing his effort towards goal well wide of the far right post - AND THAT WAS THE CHANCE FOR NORTHAMPTON TOWN TO EQUALISE AND THAT WAS A MASSIVE LET OFF FOR GILLINGHAM!!!!!!! - Huge credit must go to Jack Bonham for staying on his feat for as long as possible and this perhaps put a level of doubt into Alex Jones Mind, And The Northampton Town Striker went for power to beat Jack Bonham but failed to hit the target - BUT WHAT ON EARTH WAS JACK TUCKER DOING WITH THAT HORRENDOUS BACK-PASS!!!!!!!
Twenty Eight Minutes Into The Match, Northampton Town went from the score-line should have been 1-1, To Gillingham creating a decent goal-scoring opportunity for 2-0, Gillingham have a throw on down The Medway Stand Side Of The Pitch, And Ryan Jackson hurls a long throw down the line and Vadaine Oliver wins the initial aerial challenge and Fraser Horsfall wins the second aerial challenge up against Dominic Samuel and Fraser Horsfall wins the next aerial challenge before Vadaine Oliver can get to the loose ball, But Fraser Horsfall’s headed clearance goes straight towards Kyle Dempsey, who chests the ball under control and Kyle Dempsey passes the ball square to Alex MacDonald on the edge of Northampton Town’s Penalty Area, And Alex MacDonald’s first time through-ball through to Vadaine Oliver is slightly over-hit, and Jonathan Mitchell was able to gather the ball with some difficulty to keep Northampton Town in this match at 1-0 down.
Thirty Two Minutes Into The Match, And Gillingham have been awarded a free kick, Jack Bonham saves Mickel Miller’s low in-swinging cross, and Jack Bonham was quick to throw the ball out-wide to Kyle Dempsey down the right side of the pitch, And Kyle Dempsey runs forwards in possession of the ball for The Gills and Kyle Dempsey continue’s his run forwards into Northampton Town’s Final Third, And Kyle Dempsey checks back on himself to evade the attempted challenge from Peter Kioso, And The Northampton Town Defender Pushes Kyle Dempsey down to the deck and Gillingham have been awarded a free kick, and it is from this free kick where Gillingham had the chance to go 2-0 up, Olly Lee whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross and Robbie Cundy climbs highest to header the ball down into the ground and the ball bounces high straight into Jonathan Mitchell’s grasp, either side of The Northampton Town Goalkeeper would have seen Gillingham go 2-0 up, And Gillingham have had there chances to extend the lead further in there favour in this action packed first half.

HALF TIME: GILLINGHAM 1-0 NORTHAMPTON TOWN
I uploaded the following status updates on to social media at half time,,,,, HALF TIME: GILLINGHAM 1-0 NORTHAMPTON TOWN - Vadaine Oliver's goal is the difference between both sides in the first half in a first half which has been very end to end, And Lee came close to opening the scoring after five minutes, when his shot towards goal was blocked by Jones. Mills's curling free kick went just wide of the far right post and after eleven minutes, Oliver opened the scoring for The Gills with Jackson hurling in a long dangerous throw, one of Cundy or Samuel flicked the ball on and Oliver was in the right place to give The Gills the lead, Dominic Samuel almost made the score-line 2-0, when he intercepted the ball inside Northampton Town's Penalty Area, And Samuel's shot towards goal was saved by Mitchell and knocked out of play for a corner, Dempsey's curling shot towards goal was also saved by Mitchell in goal. But despite all the chances Gillingham were creating, a dreadful back-pass from Jack Tucker put the ball through to Jones, who really should have equalised for Northampton Town, and that was a massive let off for The Gills. Cundy's header towards goal from Lee's cross was saved. Bonham saved Miller's curling effort towards goal as Northampton Town were looking the better side in the closing stages of the first half, Lee's low effort towards goal from Dempsey's layoff was saved by Mitchell, Oliver also headed Jackson's cross just wide of the far post.
Ryan Watson and Joseph Mills were booked for Northampton Town in the first half, And Stuart O’Keefe and Robbie Cundy were booked for The Gills, Stuart O’Keefe has now been booked ten times in his last fifteen appearances for Gillingham and twelve bookings in twenty four appearances throughout The 2020 / 2021 Season, which is truly a remarkable statistic, But one thing which was less then remarkable in the first half which was that horrendous back-pass from Jack Tucker which put Alex Jones through one on one with Jack Bonham, And Alex Jones should have equalised for Northampton Town, But credit must go to Jack Bonham for staying on his feat for as long as possible, And Jack Bonham staying on his feat was enough for Gillingham to preserve there one goal lead.
SECOND HALF: And that one on one miss from Alex Jones see’s Northampton Town Manager Jon Brady substitute Alex Jones at half time, with experienced striker Danny Rose coming on right at the start of the second half, Danny Rose has been linked with a move to Gillingham previously when he was playing for Mansfield Town In League Two and Danny Rose will just give Northampton Town something different in attack to concern Gillingham defensively, Steve Evans hasn’t made any tactical or enforced substitutions at half time because Gillingham were winning 1-0, perhaps the only disappointing aspect from Gillingham’s first half performance was the fact that Gillingham have not extended the lead further in our favour, 2-0 or 3-0 would have put The Gills in a very strong position to pick up all three points.
Fifty Four Minutes Into The Match, And Gillingham have been awarded a free kick when Bryn Morris is penalised and booked for a very reckless challenge on Alex MacDonald on the halfway line, And Gillingham have been awarded a free kick, and from the resulting free kick, Jack Tucker kicks in a high and hanging cross towards the edge of Northampton Town’s Penalty Area, And Fraser Horsfall manages to header the ball partially clear and away from danger, and Alex MacDonald headers the ball square to Kyle Dempsey down the right side of the pitch, And Alex MacDonald had sprinted across to provide Kyle Dempsey with a passing option, And Kyle Dempsey takes a few touches in possession of the ball before attempting to thread a through-ball through to Olly Lee, And Sam Hoskins manages to intercept the ball for Northampton Town before being forced to run towards his own byline, And Sam Hoskins does really well to clip the ball down the line just to momentarily get the ball clear and away from goal, whilst at the same-time preventing the ball going out of play for A Gillingham Corner Kick, And Ryan Jackson gets to the loose ball first and passes the ball forwards towards Olly Lee, And Olly Lee takes a touch to control the ball before passing the ball back to Ryan Jackson, And Ryan Jackson clips a long pass down the line for Dominic Samuel to try and get on the end of, And Dominic Samuel does manage to get the loose ball first ahead of Lloyd Jones, And Lloyd Jones had completely taken Dominic Samuel out, And Gillingham have been awarded a free kick in a very promising position on the pitch.
And I have got to say that Lloyd Jones can consider himself “very fortunate” not to have been booked for that challenge on Dominic Samuel, However, Gillingham had the chance to double there lead and go 2-0 up from the resulting free kick, Kyle Dempsey and Olly Lee are both standing over the ball, And Olly Lee whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross and Robbie Cundy’s glancing header loops just wide of the far left post - And had Robbie Cundy’s Header been on target, Gillingham would have doubled there lead and 2-0 would have put Gillingham in a stronger position to pick up all three points.
Once the ball had gone out of play, Northampton Town make a double substitution, With Mark Marshall and Ryan Edmondson coming on to replace Mickel Miller and Shaun McWilliams, Mark Marshall and Ryan Edmondson are both attacking players and Northampton Town have got to win against Gillingham if they are to stand any chance of avoiding relegation into League Two, Because Northampton Town’s final two league games of the season are against Blackpool and Sunderland, And Northampton Town will look at this match against Gillingham as there best opportunity to pick up all three points, but at the same-time, the more attack minded Northampton Town are, there is the possibility of Gillingham hitting Northampton Town on the counter attack and extending the lead further in our favour.

I think Olly Lee taking the shot on early caught Jonathan Mitchell out, Because Kyle Dempsey and Vadaine Oliver both were giving Olly Lee passing options, But Olly Lee has managed to pick out the bottom left corner of the net, and that all important second goal has given Gillingham some much needed breathing space, and now Northampton Town have to score three goals to give themselves the best possible chance of avoiding relegation into League Two.

Once the ball has gone out of play, Northampton Town make there fourth substitute of the match, With Caleb Chukwuemeka coming on to replace Ryan Watson, And Gillingham have yet to make a change, I had a few substitution recommendations, Robbie McKenzie could come on to replace Stuart O’Keefe, because Stuart O’Keefe might be walking on thin ice with that yellow card, Jordan Graham and Tyreke Johnson could both come on, which will enable Gillingham to try and catch Northampton Town on the break with the visitor’s over-committing players forwards to try and get the three goals they need to pick up the three points that Northampton Town clearly need to avoid relegation, But we’re looking at the bench thinking Gillingham can do with making a few changes to freshen the team up.

In The Eighty First Minute Of The Match, Mark Marshall’s cross is blocked by Connor Ogilvie at the expense of conceding a corner kick, and unfortunately from A Gillingham Point Of View, Northampton Town were able to equalise from the resulting corner, Joseph Mills whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross and Fraser Horsfall headers the ball into the back of the net from close range to score Northampton Town’s Equaliser, It’s poor marking from Gillingham from the corner kick, And If Jack Bonham has to come rushing off his goal-line, then he has to save or parry the ball, or, stay on his goal-line, But I think the poor marking is the major culprit for Northampton Town’s Equaliser - GILLINGHAM 2-2 NORTHAMPTON TOWN.

Gillingham then make a double substitution in The Eighty Eighth Minute, Jordan Graham comes on to replace Olly Lee, And Youngster Gerald Sithole comes on for Dominic Samuel to make his debut for Gillingham, And Gerald Sithole making his debut is fantastic news, However, Steve Evans has not used his substitutes to full effect, Because we were questioning the decision to sit on The 2-1 lead against Oxford United and why didn’t Dominic Samuel and John Akinde come on when the score-line was 2-2 at The Kassam Stadium, and again, we’re wondering why hasn’t Steve Evans used the substitutes bench to full effect,Because eighty eight minutes before Gillingham make a sub is very concerning, especially after the hard work Gillingham put in to win 1-0 against Peterborough United in mid-week.
And Robbie McKenzie has to come and replace Ryan Jackson, who had to be redrawn from the match because of injury, again, not using the substitutes bench to full effect is going to cost us, Because the players who are playing are playing constantly and there is no rest-bite, and the players who are not playing are not building up there match fitness and match sharpness levels, because it will take those players who are not playing a few games to get themselves up to speed of competitive first team football.
Northampton Town had the chance to turn this match from 2-0 down to 3-2 up with a corner kick in The Ninety First Minute Of The Match, Joseph Mills whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross towards the far post and Fraser Horsfall’s glancing header goes just wide of the far right post - AND THAT WAS THE CHANCE FOR NORTHAMPTON TOWN TO TAKE THE LEAD!!!! - I was frustrated and furious at this point because I could only see Northampton Town winning and picking up all three points, And Gillingham could be losing 3-2 in successive Saturday’s having gone 2-0 up against Oxford United and 2-0 up against Northampton Town.
And the final noteworthy moment of the match see’s Robbie Cundy block Fraser Horsfall’s header towards goal from Mark Marshall’s cross and Robbie Cundy has deflected Fraser Horsfall’s header out of play for A Northampton Town Corner Kick, And From The Resulting Corner Kick, Sam Hoskins whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross and Jack Bonham punches the ball partially clear and Jordan Graham headers the ball out-wide, And Mark Marshall is on to the loose ball and Mark Marshall runs forwards towards the byline and whips in a dangerous in-swinging cross and Robbie McKenzie headers the ball clear and Jordan Graham completes the clearance, and after five additional minutes of added time, the full time whistle has been blown from Referee Carl Brook, And The Full Time Score At Priestfield Stadium Is Gillingham 2-2 Northampton Town.

I posted the following status update on Social Media,,,,,,, FULL TIME: GILLINGHAM 2-2 NORTHAMPTON TOWN - Last Saturday, Gillingham were 2-0 up and lost 3-2 against Oxford United, Today, Gillingham were 2-0 up against Northampton Town and drew 2-2, those five dropped points have killed off Gills faint chances of a playoff spot this season. The first chance of the second half see's Olly Lee whip in a dangerous in-swinging cross and Robbie Cundy headers wide for The Gills, Dominic Samuel headers wide from Ryan Jackson's cross as Gillingham were looking for that all important vital second goal to give Gills some breathing space. Bonham makes a fantastic save to prevent Northampton from equalising before almost dropping the cross from the resulting cross into A Northampton Players path and Bonham gathers the ball at the second attempt, Morris's shot is deflected out of play for a corner for Northampton. And when Olly Lee doubles Gillingham's lead to 2-0, And with Northampton not capitalising on the chances they have created in the second half, I think everyone thought that Gills would kick on from here and make it back to back league wins and keep our faint playoff hopes alive. Northampton threw caution to the wind, Marshall, Rose and Edmondson came on and Cundy was in the right place at the right time to header Marshall's curling shot off the line to preserve Gills two goal lead. Oliver had the chance to score for 3-0, but his shot on goal was saved. Two goals in four minutes from Edmondson and Horsfall cancelled out Gillingham's two goal lead, But MacDonald's shot towards goal was tipped over by Mitchell, Samuel's curling effort towards goal hit the post, And Dempsey had the chance to shoot but opted to pass the ball. A draw doesn't help Northampton Town in there challenge to avoid relegation into League Two, And a draw doesn't help Gillingham to try and keep our faint playoff hopes alive, This is two points dropped for Gillingham and one point gained for Northampton Town.
Gillingham not making the playoffs shouldn't tarnish what has been a remarkable run of form for Gills in the second half of the season, Back to back wins in our final two games would equal Justin Edinburgh's points tally from 20 15 / 2016 Season, But there has been an over-reliance on the same fourteen / fifteen players to put in some exceptional effort and performances to try and see if Gillingham can achieve the unlikely goal of securing ourselves a playoff spot at the end of The 2020 / 2021 Season, And our aim now is to finish this season as high as we possibly can, and then we turn our attention to the off season and the likelihood that Gillingham will have to re-build our first team squad again from scratch, Because Jack Bonham, Stuart O’Keefe, Jordan Graham and Connor Ogilvie are all out of contract in the summer, and loanee’s Tom O’Connor, Robbie Cundy and Olly Lee will return to there parent clubs as well, which means Gillingham having to gel an entire new team ready for The 2021 / 2022 Season and gelling a squad together takes time, and it is that time which saw Gillingham lose five league games in a row without scoring a goal in the first half of this season, and losing five games in a row is why Gillingham are not going to achieve a playoff spot at the end of the season.
I also have got to criticise Steve Evans for his lack of substitutions again, Oxford United bring on Dan Agyei, Sam Winnall, Jamie Hanson and Alejandro Gorrin and Oxford United were losing 2-0 and won 3-2, Northampton Town bring on Mark Marshall, Danny Rose, Ryan Edmondson and Caleb Chukwuemeka, And Northampton Town fight back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2, And Northampton Town could have won 3-2 against Gillingham as well, I think you have got to criticise Steve Evans here for the lack of substitutions earlier on in the game, We have got Robbie McKenzie, Jordan Graham, Gerald Sithole, Tom O’Connor, Tyreke Johnson and Henry Woods, It was clear and obvious for all to see that Gillingham needed fresh legs to come on to cope with the caution to the wind approach that Northampton Town were going for when Mark Marshall, Danny Rose and Ryan Edmondson came on, Because those three caused Gillingham a lot of problems.
It is great to see Gerald Sithole make his debut for Gillingham, And I just wished that Gerald Sithole was making his debut with Gillingham winning 3-0 and the match is beyond all doubt and Gillingham had secured the win, But it was clear for all to see that Gillingham had to make changes, we had to freshen the team up because the players put in a fantastic shift to win 1-0 away against Peterborough United, and we’re hoping that the same players can replicate that performance, and for the most part, we had replicated that performance because Gillingham were winning 2-0 against Northampton Town, But after going 2-0 up, that’s when Gills needed fresh legs to come on and give Gillingham the energy and freshness we needed to see the game out.
But it is clear for all to see as to why those changes were not made, Steve Evans doesn’t trust Henry Woods and Tyreke Johnson, But that still leaves you with Jordan Graham, Tom O’Connor and Robbie McKenzie, three players who have played a pivotal role for Gillingham Football Club This Season, and surely all three players could have come on whilst the score-line was 2-0 just to freshen the team up, and maybe Gillingham could have held out for 2-0 or 2-1 for longer and then Gerald Sithole is coming on to make his debut for Gillingham whilst Gillingham are in a winning position.
And because of our over-reliance on the same thirteen, fourteen and fifteen players, that means that our players who are playing week in and week out are feeling the effects of a congested football league season, Gillingham put in a hard fought backs against the performance against Peterborough United in mid-week, and the players were rewarded with there efforts with a hard fought 1-0 win, But then we go into The Northampton Town Game, Gillingham are winning 2-0, Northampton Town make four subs which help Northampton Town battle back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2, And Gillingham have not used our squad to full effect, we don’t rotate the squad often enough, and with five substitutes allowed in each match, that gives manager’s more flexibility in there choice of substitutions, even if that means your bringing a player on purely just to give your team a fresh pair of legs in defence, midfield or attack in the closing stages of the match.
This still has been an out-standing season for The Gills, But the loss against Oxford United and the draw against Northampton Town with Gillingham losing points from both matches when Gillingham were winning 2-0 has just killed off our slim chances of securing ourselves a playoff spot at the end of the season, Just being in the conversation regarding competing for a playoff spot with six games to go is a phenomenal achievement, But I just think that this season has caught up with our small squad, and the lack of squad depth has shown recently, And Steve Evans reluctance to use the bench has been irritating in the past two Saturday League Matches.
The challenge now for Gillingham is the win both of our remaining league games against Burton Albion And Plymouth Argyle, And If Gillingham were to achieve that goal, then Gillingham would have matched the sixty nine points Gillingham picked up in The 2015 / 2016 Season Under Justin Edinburgh, which is the most amount of points Gillingham have picked up in League One since our relegation from The Championship In 2005, Hopefully, Gillingham can achieve that goal by winning both matches against Burton Albion And Plymouth Argyle, But I do have to admit that I am frustrated with that 2-2 draw against Northampton Town Though, But let’s end The 2020 / 2021 Season on a high - COME ON THE GILLS!!!!!!!!

Henri Cartier-Bresson was born on August 22, 1908 in Chanteloup, France, died in 2004. In more than 40 years as a photographer, Cartier-Bresson wandered continually around the world with his camera and an early user of 35 mm film. He pioneered the genre of street photography. His father owned a textile mill, his mother's family operated cotton for generations, and owned a large farm in Normandy. Henry was their first child, so they wanted Henry to take over the family business when he grew up, but unfortunately, Henry had no interest in doing business at all. He was the first foreign professional photographer to be allowed into the USSR since the death of Stalin in 1953. “The decisive moment” is the core photography concept of Bresson
His iconic Leica, 50mm header, and his incredible snapping techniques have influenced a generation of people who love photography. But at that time when photography is not yet popular and technology is still immature, it is indeed ahead of its time.
Bresson was a defender of black and white photography. Most of the time he only used black and white film. He didn't have much affection for color photography. According to him, the photography technology of that period could not take vivid colors and the colors of photos, it is incomparable with the delicate tones that painting can show. So, although he has made some color works in the later period, neither quantity nor quality can be compared with his black and white works.
One of the master works in the middle and late period are relatively simple to look at, but they are master works. Boy Carrying a Wine Bottle, (Rue Mouffetard, Paris, 1954) The boy held a large wine bottle in each hand and walked home proudly, as if he had accomplished a glorious and difficult task. The characters in the photos are very natural and real, showing Bresson's skillful capture.But I think this photo is not perfect, the little boy's feet are not included in the picture, the horizontal line of the photo is not corrected, and there is someone's half shoulder on the left, which seems a bit redundant.

Keep in mind that when I link tags mobile will redirect you to tumblr’s general tags, not the ones in my blog, so you should look at these from desktop, which means you can use the search bar if I haven’t added a direct link yet, because the words are the same ones as the ones I write (es. my banners are tagged ‘my banners’), nothing fancy.

Traditional 1928 Ford Model A Hot Rod is Driven Everywhere!
Most couples celebrate milestones like birthdays and wedding anniversaries with some sort of splurge: a trip, a fancy night on the town, maybe a new piece of keepsake jewelry. Vic and Debbie Hager have their own way to mark those special occasions: They build hot rods.
When the high-school sweethearts were dating, Vic drove them around in a ’57 Chevy pickup. It went away, as a lot of high school cars do. But as the years went by, Vic started looking for another like it.
Hot rods and airports have a relationship that goes back almost as far as gow jobs and dry lakes. Thanks to one of Vic Hager’s many friends, we photographed his Model A roadster at historic Minter Army Air Field in Shafter, California.
Debbi beat him to the punch, buying him a similar truck for his birthday in 2001. They drove it to their 30th high school reunion, and it remains Vic’s daily driver today.
For their 35th wedding anniversary, Vic and Debbi decided to build another truck, this time a hot rod ’40 Ford pickup that had been taking shape in Vic’s mind for a while. Drawings on napkins at the dinner table morphed into a tattoo of the chopped, slammed, and fenderless Ford on Vic’s right forearm—before the truck was even built.
Not only did Vic want a car with early parts, but he also wanted to build it using the same kinds of processes available to a young rodder in the late 1940s or early 1950s. So the Model A’s single-stage paint job was sprayed by Vic and Bob Gleim in Bob’s driveway.
“But there’s only one way I’d do it,” Vic says, “and that was if Debbi helped me. And I don’t mean just bringing me iced tea in the garage while I work. I mean really helped me. Side-by-side, every step of the way.”
That’s exactly how it happened. The two of them essentially built the car from scratch, with Vic teaching Debbi how to weld “so we could fabricate what we needed,” he says. The result is something far more meaningful to the couple than another bauble on a bracelet. Not to mention a whole lot more fun.
Close examination of the tail panel reveals some of Jason “3 Sheets” Janes’s black-on-black pinstriping, including Vic’s mother’s name, Betty, at the lower right corner. The script mimics her signature, so it looks like she signed the car herself.
So when Vic’s 60th birthday rolled around, Debbi kept the couple’s milestone tradition going by buying Vic a Model A roadster.
“He was ready to retire,” she recalls, “and had built a shop in back of our house. I asked him, ‘Why don’t you finish the shop and do a car?’”
Doing a car turned into a five-year project for Vic and Debbi, with help from friends, family, and fellow members of the Bakersfield-area 99s car club.
Vic says one of the hardest parts of the roadster’s build was getting the decklid right, as the skin oil-canned when it was pulled away from its inner structure to punch the louvers. Vic Heliarc-welded the skin back to the frame, then heated the metal with a shrinking wheel and cooled it with a rag “about a million times” to get the metal right again.
As he had done with the ’40 pickup, Vic formed a very clear vision of what the roadster should be. “I wanted to build the car as a lakes-style hot rod, like a kid would have done after the war. The kind of car you’d drive to the lakes, take everything off of it, race it, then put everything back on and drive home. I wanted to use as many original Ford parts as possible, and use the same methods and processes available at the time.”
That vision meant taking a whole different approach than what he and Debbi had done with the Ford truck. Instead of fabricating what he needed, Vic would have to hunt down those period-correct parts he saw in his mind’s eye. As it turned out, much of the five years it took to build the car was spent searching for parts.
With help from buddy Bob Van Meter, Vic built a flathead for performance and reliability. The 286ci French block is fitted with Mercury heads and spins a Scat reciprocating assembly with Ross Racing pistons. Smith Auto of Dinuba, California, did Vic’s machining work, while Reynolds Machine balanced the flywheel and clutch assembly. Spark comes from a rebuilt Joe Hunt magneto out of a 1980s sprint car. Vic fabricated the stainless-steel exhaust system, with 1-5/8-inch header pipes flowing back to 2 1/8-inch tailpipes.
Vic admits he made some concessions to the all-vintage-parts plan, but they were made in the name of durability. “Debbi and I wanted to drive the car everywhere, and we live in 100-degrees-plus in Bakersfield.” A cool-running flathead was high on his list of priorities, as was a sparkier 12-volt ignition system, albeit one fired by a rebuilt Joe Hunt magneto. Debbi’s present was a great place to start. The ’28 Model A was “pretty straight and had no rust,” says Vic, but also had no front fenders, running boards, or hood. “It looked like they were going to hot-rod it, but it was still pretty stock.” There were some issues with the rear decklid, and the fender behind the driver’s seat had a dent where a ladder had fallen on it. “That’s why the guy sold it. After the ladder fell on it, he realized he’d never do anything with it.”
The EAC Mercury heads were milled 0.20 inch and pocketed to make room for 1.6-inch stainless-steel valves. A Howard cam offers 0.405/0.395 inches of lift at 0.050 and a 111-degree lobe separation angle.
The car was a roller, sitting on its stock frame and still fitted with its Model A axles, mechanical brakes, and spoke wheels. Vic cleaned up and painted the frame, but didn’t box the rails or fill in any of the original holes “to keep it as original as possible.” He did add a dropped front crossmember to accommodate a big radiator, a ’32 K-member to hold the flathead, and a new center X-member. The front axle, springs, and wishbones are from a ’36 Ford, while the rearend, rear springs, and ’bones are originals.
The handsome gray wheels, from a ’40 Ford, came from Vic’s buddy Steve Long, who was also the source of “those beautiful ’36 headlights,” says Vic. The lights had been in Steve’s parts stash, and Vic had had his eyes on them for a while. “I always wanted lights like that on a car,” Vic would say to Steve, “but he’d just hem and haw.” One day Steve dropped by Vic’s shop to check out the hot rod’s progress, and he was impressed. “Come get them,” Steve told Vic after the visit. “I want them to be on your car.”
The motor has been stone reliable, except early on Vic felt it “seemed a little lean on the bottom end. I messed with it, but it never seemed perfect.” One day on the way to breakfast, “it just quit. I thought I had fouled a plug and couldn’t get it going.” Vic suspected trouble with the mag, so he drove it up to the Joe Hunt shop near Sacramento, where the issue was traced to a hairline crack by the No. 8 cylinder wire. “So I was really running on seven cylinders the whole time.” With a new cap “everything’s been perfect since.”
The generosity of friends and family is a running theme in this car’s build history. For instance, when it came time to paint the car, Vic wanted to do it the old-fashioned way: “outside, with single-stage paint.” But he had never painted a car before. So he asked a friend, Bob Gleim, for help.
“Bob had been around long enough, had been around hot rods in the Glendale area when he was a kid, so he knew what they did and didn’t do,” says Vic. “I asked him to teach me. Not do all the work, but teach me the process and paint with me. That started a two-month process, working every day of the week. He’d spray some of it to show me, then I’d spray. First the sealer, then the primer, then the black. He was a real good teacher. He knew what he was doing. I didn’t, but I was willing to learn.”
The polished Offy Super Dual intake (which Vic port matched with the block) mounts Stromberg 97s with OTB smooth-dome air cleaners.
Gutsy move, especially given his choice of color. “Yeah, I picked the hardest color on an outdoor paint job on an old car. But it turned out pretty all right.”
Another friend who pitched in was Bob Van Meter, who “taught me how to build a performance flathead,” says Vic. Its foundation is a French block, “a 59AB/8BA combo,” as Vic describes it, displacing 286 ci. Within the block is a Scat crank and balanced H-beam connecting rods mounting Ross Racing pistons. Vic relieved the block at the bores and pocketed the EAC Mercury cylinder heads (which were also milled 0.020) to clear the 1.6-inch stainless valves. Vic port-matched the Offy Super Dual intake manifold and fabricated the stainless-steel exhaust system.
Backing the flattie is a ’38 Ford passenger car transmission that Vic and Bob Gleim filled with truck internals with “better synchros,” says Vic. A torque tube sends power back to the car’s original rearend, filled with 3.54 gears.
Front axle and springs are from a ’36 Ford, while the Model A’s original Houdaille shocks damp the ride. A ’40 Ford provided the hydraulic brakes.
The Model A’s cockpit blends some original Henry parts with handiwork done by Vic, Vic’s brother Paul, and an upholsterer whose name is so long and convoluted that Vic says he goes by just the initial J. Vic fabbed the pedals and the nickel-plated dash bar (where a tonneau attaches), and modified the shift knob into a remarkably accurate self-portrait. Paul is responsible for the woodwork on the car’s floor, toe board, and around the cockpit’s trailing edge.
J’s job was the car’s upholstery, turning what had been a Dodge Caravan rear seat into a tuck-and-rolled, leather-clad beauty. He also made a matching cushion to bolster Debbi when she’s behind the wheel.
When Vic asked J to make a tonneau for the car, J had no idea what he was talking about. He’d never heard the term. Vic described what he wanted, and a light bulb went on in J’s head, as he had done similar covers for boat owners.
The original Model A rearend gets power via a torque tube. Given the undercarriage’s cleanliness, you’d never know that this was a driver until hearing the stories from Vic and Debbi about the miles it has traveled.
As a super-subtle finishing touch, Debbi’s brother, Jason “3 Sheets” Janes, pinstriped parts of the body and the headlight housings—in black. The name “Betty” appears in that black-on-black treatment on the lower right corner of the tail panel. The Model A is named for Vic’s mother, and Jason applied the script in a copy of her handwriting, as if she’d signed the car herself.
“She and my dad, Cecil, would have loved to ride in the car,” Debbi tells us. While it was being built, “they both loved talking about it and sitting in it.” Betty and Cecil passed away before the car was finished, but Betty, at least in name, goes with Vic and Debbi whenever they take the car out.
Vic’s prized ’36 headlights wear more of his brother-in-law’s pinstriping. Getting the lights positioned took a lot of trial-and-error, with Debbi and the couple’s daughter, Rae, holding them and moving them around while Vic checked their height and position relative to the car. Once Vic was satisfied with their location, he made their stanchions.
And take it out they do. When the Model A had barely 50 miles on it, Vic and Debbi drove it to a car show in Tehachapi, some 40 miles away, “in 110-degree heat,” says Vic. “That was a real test of that flathead motor.” They have since driven it to the Ventura Nationals, the “Burgers-N-Burnouts” HOT ROD 70th anniversary show in Pomona, and to their hometown track, Famoso, to the California Hot Rod Reunion and the March Meet. As we write this, they plan to go to the SCTA’s season opener at El Mirage, taking the same backroads that the pioneer lakes racers did.
We first spotted the car at CHRR and featured it in our “Scene at …” show coverage in the Mar. 2019 issue. Vic also graciously agreed to carry our own Dave Wallace, an honoree at the Reunion, during the event’s pre-Cackle parade.
Nearly all of the sheetmetal on Vic’s roadster is the Model A’s original steel. Two exceptions are the Brookville grille shell and the Rootlieb hood, the latter used to help mate the Deuce shell to the gennie Model A cowl.
Those are the kinds of things Vic and Debbi really enjoy about the Model A, the things that go beyond the car’s nuts and bolts. “It’s not just the car,” Debbi says. “It’s the people we meet and the adventures we go on. The car makes that happen.”
Leather tuck-and-roll, by an upholster known only as J, covers what used to be the rear seat out of a Dodge minivan. The dashboard and instrument panel are original to the car; Vic filled the cluster with a mix of original and Mooneyes gauges. The Bell-style steering wheel is also from Mooneyes.
Vic fashioned the car’s pedals, while the woodwork on the floor, toe board, and around the cab was finished by his brother, Paul.

Like the brakes behind them, the 16-inch wheels are from a ’40 Ford. They are finished off with Mercury hubcaps and wrapped by Coker reproduction Firestones, 6.00×16 in front and 7.50×16 in back.
The Hager’s roadster is deceiving. At first glance it looks like simplicity itself: a nicely proportioned highboy wearing its single-stage paint like a plain black dress. But this is a car that rewards closer attention. That’s when you spot things like the handmade blister in the hood to clear the mag, the nickel-plated (not chrome) dash bar, the hand-fabricated spreader, and just enough brightwork to accent the plain black wrapper.
It’s not easy to build a hot rod using primarily pre- and post-war parts. To finish such a car and also have it be a reliable driver in the summer heat of California’s Central Valley is harder still. But Vic and Debbi pulled it off, with the help of family and friends.
Too Cool for Old School
How did Vic Hager and Bob Van Meter build a flathead that keeps its cool in the Central Valley heat? It helps that the engine is based on a newish French block rather than a vintage one. “Those old blocks tended to have silica casting sand left in the water jackets,” Vic explains. “Most people back then just ran water in the cooling systems, and water is corrosive over time. The water pumps were primitive, there were problems with seals, all kinds of things.”
The French block, on the other hand, “doesn’t have a silica casting sand problem, and it has really big water jackets, like a later motor. I run a hybrid mix of coolant with a little soluble oil in the radiator to keep corrosion down.” That radiator is a four-core ’32 Walker radiator, “the best you can get,” Vic says. Coolant flows from ’52 truck water pumps with an extra impeller. “It slows the speed of the water but lets a bigger volume of water through. I also have a huge, six-blade, high-pitch fan that will suck a T-shirt right onto the radiator.”
Did his plan work? “My car runs exceptionally cool,” he says. “I did all this because I was worried about heating issues in our area. But it has been totally the opposite. When we go up the hill to L.A., we see a lot of new cars pulled over, overheating. But we’re going by at 75, 80 miles per hour, and running 160, 170 degrees at the most. It has never boiled over.”
The Anniversary Pickup
For their 35th wedding anniversary, Vic and Debbi built this ’40 Ford pickup together. Vic had envisioned the truck well before building it, and had that vision tattooed on his forearm before turning any wrenches.

Combo Breaker 2018: The Full Results
Combo Breaker 2018 has concluded. Chicago's biggest fighting game tournament has wrapped up for another year and all of the champions have been crowned. Injustice 2
The Injustice 2 Grand Finals went down to the wire between Tweedy and DR_Gross. Gross brought the heat with Green Lantern throughout the finals, but Tweedy was eventually able to ward off one last GL onslaught, thanks to Starfire's effective zoning techniques. GL wasn't able to close in and Tweedy took the tournament.

This was another wild Top 8 that culminated with a barnburner of a Grand Finals. Korea's Jaewon "Daru I-No" Kim just needed the opportunity to prove himself, but has had trouble getting to tournaments in the past. He even relied on a community fundraiser to get him to this very event. But he made his opportunity count, as he narrowly edged out Fukuda "Teresa" Norihiro in a Grand Finals that left both men emotionally spent by the end.

Killer Instinct
One of the most exciting tournaments of the weekend that went largely under the radar was Killer Instinct. Combo Breaker has always been one of the best places to catch the top Killer Instinct and this was no exception. While he fell short last year, there was no stopping Latrell "Amenty" Thomas in 2018. He has a total mastery of new character Eagle and former Evo champion Darnell "Hollywood Sleep" Waller had no answers. This was a master class in how to work opponents with KI's last character.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
It's hard to argue against the idea that Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite has lost pretty much all of its steam since its damning Evo snub. While registration numbers have remained consistent, many of the game's high-profile players have left, viewership has dipped, and Capcom looks to have abandoned the Marvel fanbase... again. But the Marvel tournaments are still incredible to watch, as evidenced by Combo Breaker's Top 8.
Watch as Kevin "Dual Kevin" Barrios caps off an incredible Losers Bracket run in the most epic fashion possible. Don't put Hawkeye in a box, because all he needs is his bow and arrow.

The best players across both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Smash 4 were attending MomoCon this weekend, so there was a lot of A-tier talent missing from Combo Breaker. 20 THOUGHTS: Ed and Charlie on a Mission from God
HOW would be feel if you’re Tom Hawkins?
Both Curnow brothers head to the tribunal and get a great result, with Steven May allowed to board the plane to China as well. All after poor Tom copped a week for his indiscretion only one week prior.
It is all a bit random at the moment these sanctions, but for mine, given the sudden increase in umpire contact, the resolution isn’t about consistency with the tribunal outcomes, but if the umpires can stop being so touchable, dial back the flirting.
Haven’t had umpire contact for years and now four in two weeks. Perhaps the Lynx Africa umpires sponsorship is working too well.
Onto more pressing and interesting matters..
1. Monday night, Chris Judd had an idea to increase the spectacle of the game by replacing percentage on the ladder with simply points scored, encourage teams to score more. That works well for Etihad Stadium tenants always under a roof on a fast track, but for anyone else, particularly those who play in Queensland monsoons every now and then, not so good. Thanks Chris.
2. Essendon - something else going on? The Mark Neeld thing is bizarre. Don't believe 'public media releases'. It's amiss. Especially when the coach uses "they" in press conferences talking about his own players. Heppell is a star looking anything but, Goddard is not good for that team at this minute and don't ask on Stringer. This is a very well-run organisation, particularly post-drugs saga, and it’s a very talented list. Worsfold was good at West Coast and awesome in his first year at Tullamarine. So yep, something away from the cameras, away from game day, is properly wrong.
3. Devon Smith a bright spot for Essendon though, in a side looking light on for want, desire, effort, he is averaging 8 tackles a game, second in the comp.
4. Buddy Franklin, bruised heel, didn't get up last week and already ruled out for this week. Strange. Wouldn't be another Dayne Beams-style injury-layoff, would it?
5. Ben Ronke, seven goals, fantastic, taken as a rookie, pick 17. The pick before in that same rookie draft was Jack Henry, last week’s rising star nominee for Geelong. The pick before that, Tendai Mzungu, the ex-Docker, taken by GWS. They can't get much right the Giants.
6. As for the GWS, now sitting out of the eight. If they don't beat North down in Hobart they're in big trouble to get back in the eight. As it stands you’d be happy to lock in the top two on the ladder for September, and pencil in those three through seven. You could argue Port, in eighth, with the next four or five clubs are playing for perhaps one spot. The Giants are supposed to be a team almost ‘designed’ to be top four at worst. Early crow, but they can’t afford to head past midnight on the premiership clock, they are getting no crowds and need a flag within their first 5-10 years of existence. Need.
7. Good to see Port turn up but you just don’t trust them. They'll win this week and go 6-3 before their post-China bye, however, if they were anyone else you'd be locking them in for the eight, but with Alberton we still have way too many trust issues.
8. North have got a good thing going, not a super list but this column must give credit to Brad Scott. They play a different style to Richmond but are performing in a similar vein, Scott is extracting success from the specific parts he has available, akin to Hardwick last year. Other than the Crows who took the Tigers apart in in Round Two, are North the best opposition the reigning premier has faced to date?
9. Jack Macrae having some sort of year! Will be second in the Brownlow count to this point; remembering unless the leader gets injured or suspended he has his second medal. Listen to this column, put your life savings on, and be grateful later.
10. Speaking of Nat Fyfe, he is in unreal form and so to is Patty Cripps. Both similar styles on the inside, huge beasts almost impossible to stop. Both those boys crumbing to Nic Naitanui in an Origin game, something utterly magical we're likely never going to see. Shame.
11. Melbourne are the sleeper, got themselves to 5-3 and are getting the most inside 50s of anyone in the comp, genuine initial entries but also re-entries due to pressure. Second in the comp for clearances too and fifth in tackles. Have the game to go well and deep. A 'Buy'.
12. Shout out to Angus Brayshaw, looked at one point to be the next Jack Trengove, incredibly talented junior, more than their fair share of injuries, becoming an unfortunate but inevitably wasted pick. But no no, he is now integral to their midfield mix. Brings the tackle pressure, over five a game, averaging 23 touches as well. He is amongst the league leaders for inside 50s too, a clean user, is tough – a fantastic foil to some of their real jets. Like I said, get on the Dees.
13. Let’s get a couple on the Pies out of the way – firstly Mason Cox, top five in the comp for contested marks. Not many strings to his bow, but on the back of his vast improvement catching the thing, worth persisting with for now. A 'Hold’.
14. Tom Mitchell and Jack Macrae having great years, not only amongst the league leaders in contested ball, but ranking really highly in uncontested ball too; working hard inside and on the spread alike. Only one other is doing something similar, Adam Treloar, top 20 in both categories, having as good a year so far as his 2016 where he polled 21 Charlie votes.
15. No-one has handballed more than the Pies this year, not even close. The Tigers are going about 1.26 kicks to handball, around average, the Eagles are kicking the highest, 1.78 kicks to handball, yet the Pies, 1.11 kicks to handball. Looks to be working visually, impressive against two 2017 preliminary finalists (Adelaide and GWS), and for a half against a third (Richmond). But three of their four wins though are against 15th, 17th and 18th. However, if they were to win every coming game against someone currently below them on the ladder they will finish with 12 wins, so the draw is their oyster.
16. Darcy Moore stays at Collingwood a million percent, unless Ned Guy is as confident in securing Tom Lynch as Sydney was all 2013 in securing Lance Franklin - it’s already been done, it’s just a secret until it's permissible to go public with it. With Ben Reid the wrong side of 30 next season, and always injured, no way the Pies go into 2019 without one of Moore or Lynch. Having both is more likely than having neither.
17. Reckon Olli Wines goes. Victorian boy out of contract, the Power had a tonne of space last year but whilst they didn't spend all of it, they did commit plenty of new money beyond 2018, so the space wasn't just used up for one year, it’s considerably used up going forward. Plenty of Melbourne clubs with space they've been trying to burn for a while, so North, St Kilda, these clubs, unless the kid's dead loyal or sees real premiership potential soon (maybe?), the money and term will be better back this side of Horsham.
18. Top 3 in the Coleman? Ben Brown on 26, on 70-goal pace, utter megastar the Taswegian. But second and third, Luke Breust and Jack Darling. Will Tom Lynch's price be going down with every passing round? Why would the Tigers want him? Breust has 23 majors, Roughead for comparison, four inches taller yet nine less goals, who is more important? Breust top 5 in the league for assists too, unbelievable first third of the season for the Riverina product.
19. This column loves that this game has so many unique aspects, most notably the father son in the draft. It’s awesome - no-one else has it. But its gone too far now with academies. Not only do the expansion clubs have priority access to kids in their area, but also the northern clubs get the same entitlement with anyone remotely geographically close too (Heeney and Mills with Sydney for example). But now all clubs have pseudo academies, which aren't academies at all, they are basically the re-emergence of zones.
Take Tarryn Thomas. He is an indigenous gun from Tasmania, a serious jet who I’m really looking forward to see in the big time, who in this new world comes under the Roos' ‘Next Generation Academy’. Nothing to do with North really and Tassie has produced VFL/AFL footballers for as long as a typical season of MKR. But recently they were given the area to which Thomas is from for who knows why. So they will now get priority access to him in November’s draft, but then take the case of former North and Fitzroy wingman John Blakey's son, Nick. Could go father son to North, could go father son to Brisbane too, but because John has worked for Sydney as a coach and lived there long enough, Nick is eligible to go via academy to the Swans as well. And guess what, the kid doesn't want to move interstate so has nominated Sydney as his club of choice. This draft, combined with all the malarkey with points accrual and what not, has lost its essence. Go back to something simpler or just ditch the draft and revert to zones proper like it always was and be done with it.
20. Lastly, to Rugby League. Last Saturday night there was over 30,000 to a double header at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Nothing else in the round came close to half that, most crowds in Sydney barely broke five figures. How is that competition, a comp dying out for an in increase in crowds, still without a second team in Brisbane? Imagine the AFL not having the Power or Dockers, it's a real head scratcher. How a broadcaster hasn’t demanded it either is also staggering. Especially when it seems the Broncos aren’t just a universal love up there either, which surprises this column. You want the next bitcoin – shares in the second NRL team in Brisbane. A HUGE ‘Buy’….. when it happens. If, sorry, if it happens. Clowns.
