A COMFORT AND MAGICAL TRIP WITH YOUR HUSBAND.
Henry Cavill X Female Reader / Wife X Husband
+- 1.3 k
Pov: you and Henry go on a rod trip, but he accidentaly unlocked one of your old traumas. But he can fix It, of course.
Fluff, cute, cuddlings and lots of huggs.
You and Henry were at a car trip, it was your vacation togheter, and you two have being planning it since a long time ago. You´d be on the trip for two weeks. First, there was a 12 hours road to the first city, which you were going to stay there for five days, on a 5 star motel. You and Henry left your house early, planing to get there at 17 pm. He would start driving at 3 am and you would change places at 9 am, so each would drive 6 hours. Everything was perfect. You two got on the car and you layed on the back seat and he sat on the driver place. At 9, he stopped at a caffe for you two have breakfast. You could notice how tired he was. You both ate and got in the car.
Henry: good night, my piglly.
He immediately fell asleep, and you couldn´t believe what you had just heard. Piggly? What did he meant with that? Was he calling you fat, hairy, smelly, what? Your feelings were a mix between anger, sadness, shame and anxiety. Maybe he meant well, but you didn´t care, you two had already discussed about what to call one another, he knew he should ask about adding a new pet name.
He woke up at 15 pm, and you were so mad at him, you could barelly look at him. Piggly? After some time he noticed something was not right with you.
Henry: y/n, is eveyithing okay?
y/n: i don´t know.
Your feelings were hurt, he knew how this kind of things could reach deep in you. You didn´t even know what to say to him.
Henry: Tell me what is wrong.
y/n: you know what is wrong.
He stopped to think about it for one second.
Henry: i´m sorry, but really don´t know.
y/n: then maybe you should think harder.
You two spent the rest of the trip in silence. You arrived at the motel, you checked in and, when you were going to your bedroom, Henry stoped you and said:
Henry: darling, i´ve thought during hours and i still don´t know. Please, tell me what i did, so i may not repeat it.
You kept going and arrived in front of your room, unlocking the door you say:
y/n: you did nothing much, piggly.
He stoped and, in a second, the memory came into his mind. He knew how you didn´t liked this name because of your childhood trauma. When you were a child, you´d spent christmas at your grandma, with your cousins, and your grandma had nicknames for all of you. She meant well, but didn´t knew the damage she was doing to you, by calling all of your cousins "little giraffes", and you "little hippo", or "piggly", somtimes. She called you that name because you were the only "fat" child ( you weren´t actually really fat). You knew it wasn´t her intension to make you feel bad, it was just her way of showing afection. You knew how much she loved you, always pampering you. However, it marked you forever. Henry knew how much he messed up. He entered the room and went to the bed and gripped your waist.
Henry: y/n, i´m so, so sorry. I was so tired that my brain stoped prossesing. I thought about that word because i had just ate bacon, you saw it. So, when i got in the car, i thought about saying good night to you and calling you something nice. I´m really sorry.
You were feeling disgusted by your body, all your anxiety had come back. You got away from his hands.
yn: i need to be alone for a while.
You went to the balcony to looked at te sea and wet your feet at the indoor small pool that the room had. After some minutes thinking, you came back inside and went to him. He was sitting at the bed, looking at his cellphone. He left his phone as soon as he saw you, looking at your eyes. You put your hands on his cheeks.
y/n: let´s eat, it´s been 8 hours since we last ate.
He agrees and you go to the hotel´s restaurant. During dinner, you two discussed what you were going to do for the rest of the night. You two agreed to stay in the pool, to relax from the road.
After dinner, you were at the pool, with some soft music behind. You weren´t as talktive and needy as before, and this was killing Henry. He loved how annoyingly quiet you could be when there were other people around, but when it was just you two, you didn´t shut up. He decides to get near you to resolve it. He gently aproches you from beside, hugging you.
Henry: please, y/n, you know i didn´t mean anything bad. I love you. You are the most beautiful woman ever. Stop overthinking. Just love yourself like i love you. Your grandma was a mean woman, you know that, you told me several times. She accomplished nothing on her life for you to listen to her. This is your own thoughts, pay attention to then, please. I´m so sorry.
You hug him, burying your face at his wet, beefy chest. You get away and keeps looking at the sea. Your behavior was starting to piss him off. He longed this time alone with you for so many time, and now you were upset because of an old lady. You two decided to go to sleep. You took a shower and layed on the bed. He was ready for your usual cuddles, which calmed you from the day, but you weren´t even close to him, you were laying at the extreme edge of the bed.
Henry: darling, come near me.
y/n: not now.
Henry: please, i can make you sleep faster, you know that.
y/n: i´ll sleep in some minutes.
He couldn´t take it anymore.
Henry: if you don´t come here by yourself, i´ll go there and make you come, in a not gentle way.
y/n: i doubt it.
You said and closed your eyes.
Suddenly, you feel a hand brutally grabing your waist and quickly lifting your uper body, as if you were a doll. Henry turned you to be face to face with him. Sometimes you forgot how strong he were. He placed you by his side and said.
Henry: i told you.
You tried to scape.
Henry: darling, please, stay. I need you. i will be the one who wont sleep without my other half.
As he said that, you quiet up. After some minutes, you go on top of him hugging his big chest, feeling his to hot warm through your body. You finnaly relaxed and admitted:
y/n: thank you, for being by my side and understanding my needs. And sorry for ruinning the first part of our trip.
Henry: it is not your fault, darling, i could never blame you for that.
You two fall asleep like that. The next morning, you wake up and go to have breakfast. You were as happy as before, talking about your plans for today and tomorrow, teasing him in sexual ways that you knew it would come back after the sun was sat, and only the moon could see you both at your beachy room,, exploring each others body without a map. A so welcoming and cozy place for the other.

Charlotte “Charlie” Borsig
My girlboss has been updated too!
A few trigger warnings: Death, shitty parents, add*ction, s*x
Charlie was born on the 13th of December 1956 in Berlin. Her father adored her to pieces but when he found out his wife was cheating on him with a another man he heavy-hearted divorced his wife. Charlie was devastated and hated her stepdad. But little Heinrich she couldn’t hate. She raised him because two years later the second divorce happened and her mother slipped into alcoholism. Charlie basically ran to household. With 16 her former stepdad offered her an internship at the Ministry of national security (better known as Stasi). She was pressured to accept it. With 18 she was deemed worthy to become a spy for the GDR (in German DDR).
One of her first missions was to Scotland and there she fell in love with the future father of her sons Mr. Campbell. On the side she gathered information on her target, but she became pregnant and received an ultimatum. Leave the kids one month after birth or risk being hunted for eternity by the KGB. Knowing what happens when the KGB is tasked with hunting someone she left Donald and Douglas with their father. When she returned home she visited her mother in hope to get some empathy. But that didn’t happen…her mother scolded her and a nasty fight broke out. Charlie then ran away to her father who immediately pulled her into a hug and comforted her. After that event she took on her father’s last name: Borsig.
The years went on and Charlie until reunification racked up 8 murders. She hated every last one of them in hindsight. The most tragic one was the death of secretary who was a lesbian pressured into an affair with her male boss, but when the wife found out she was fired immediately. In a rage that poor woman took some import documents (the company was developing weapons for the US Army) and planned to sell them to afford her cancer treatment. Charlie was sent to purchase those papers and to get some additional information started a sexual relationship with her. She know the CIA was on that ladies heels and so Charlie offered her sleep pills which she had prepped so they looked normal even tho they contained a deadly Dosis. After the fall of the GDR Charlie fell under the radar of the secret agencies. In 1995 she decides to travel to Scotland to look for her boys. Dragging along her now 30 year old half-brother Heinrich.
In a small village she bumps into Henry who offers her to stay for the night and later help with the search. And with every day this small Englishman grew on her. He was so sweet and nice. A true gentleman. Charlie who throughout the years thought she couldn’t love again slowly realizes there might be a second chance at life for her. A life away from the lies and people who could backstab her any second. A life away from the freak of a mother. A place no one knows (except Henry) what she did. And when she finally meets Donald and Douglas. Her precious boys. She bursts into tears. Donnie and Douggie accept her as their ma. And when Henry offers her to stay she jumps off the train and goes with him.
Charlie loves to flirt with Henry who turns red like a tomato. She loves him and the quiet life in Scotland. Although she has some violent tendencies pulling a gun or knife on people who mildly disrupt the peace. Beware if she starts speaking German you are fucked. She’s also a bit needy sometimes (especially if she wants cookies). She hates family gatherings with a burning passion. In Scotland she later works at the local pub. Her smoking started after she had to leave behind the twins but due to Henry’s influence it becomes less. Charlie is also a fashion chameleon. Although she mostly wears black. Her worst nightmare is that all this happiness is gone and a secret service finds her in the end. But for now she’s happy. She later marries Henry and together they adopt a little boy.

Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern.
Tagged by @wurzelbertzwerg. I checked my AO3 catalog and here's what I have:
Extremes in Dating
It was after 5 o'clock on Friday and all Edward Ferrars wanted to do was shut off his brain for the next 60 hours.
What Starts in Vegas
Catherine hated hangovers.
What Happened to Mr. Bates
Emma Woodhouse was shown into the sitting room even though it was not her day to call.
Northanger Federated ¹
Kitty Morland dreamed of easy success when she bought her one-way ticket to New York City, imagining herself in the role of a plucky rags-to-riches heroine who would have the city at her feet with a well-timed laugh.
Blindspot
Weddings were not always a celebration of love.
Henry's Night In ²
Henry Tilney had always considered himself upright and decent.
Archimedes Hammer
Aziraphale stared at the view screen, willing his eyes to see the space station that Hermes's long-range sensors had detected an hour ago.
Drummer Boy/Lazy Dad
"Go," she said to me.
Bones of Saint-Sang
John Willoughby did not like his wife.
Cost of Wishes
Marianne had locked herself in her room to cry alone and bitterly.
Notes 1&2: these were originally posted a long time ago but I finally posted them on AO3.
Patterns?
I like to include a character by name in the opening (8 out of 10 times).
The opening usually isn't long. The run-on for NorFed is really more channeling the character's excitement.
I'd guess that I mostly do AUs, but only 5 are clear AUs, 3 are horror/Halloween friendly riffs on cannon, 1 is absolutely canon compliant, and 1 is a canon compliant Christmas carol parody.
I'd guess mostly Northanger Abbey, but only 3 are NA, 3 are S&S (that many? wow), 1 is Emma, 1 is P&P, and 2 are Good Omens. So, mostly Jane Austen.

Season 2, Episode 6: Videodate
Let me start out by saying this is one of the best episodes I've seen so far. The sleeze, the revenge plot, crazy 80's visuals...all perfect for a Hitchhiker episode.
The famous guest star this week is Shannon Tweed, known for being in some not-so-recognizable movies and also for being Gene Simmon's wife. I know her from Hot Dog...The Movie, which I guess is a must see for anyone who has ever been a skier or just likes a lot of full-frontal in their movies. The main male character is played by Gregg Henry, who looks to have a decent acting career, but I didn't recognize him. I thought he maybe looked like a low rent James Woods.
We start out with a woman who has very 80's hair watching a video dating service tape of a guy who is making it out to be his first time doing something like this. She is charmed by his vulnerability.
You can see by her joker-like smile, he has sealed the deal. He takes her out to an art exhibit and I have to say this is something I would love to go to even now. There is an area where you can smash a TV:
I mean, that is a really fun date!
Then we see the exhibit of a hot new artist named Monique. Wait, what? It's always weird when I hear other characters on TV with my name, since I don't hear it too often. I guess with a Canadian show, it was just a matter of time.
This is an art exhibit I would love to go to. People with TV heads that play some sort of strange video. It's creepy and disturbing and I'm all in for it.
This one represents the woman TV head's fantasy of running off with another man (shown on the TV). Of course our male character decides to man-splain to his date and also mention that he knows the artist. She seems to be watching this conversation behind him, unamused.
At least I think that is the artist...right? I guess they don't say but it seemed obvious at this point.
By now, the date is going really well.
Well that was a cool art exhibit so I kind of get it, even though he looks like a creep whose hair is just hanging on for dear life. She seems pretty vulnerable and mentions to him that she doesn't want this to be a one night stand. He tells her what she wants to hear...
...then immediately rushes her into a cab. After she is gone, we find out that wasn't even his apartment! He has been paying his friend who is a doorman to use people's apartments for these sleezy videodates.
As he drive away, we see something we haven't seen in awhile.
Oh yeah I almost forgot, there was also this weird image and some video game noise. Not sure what this is, his car is in a video game now?
Haha, as usual, perfect butt is on display. Man, he looks like he could double for George Michael in this shot. Anyways, we see the main character interacting with the Hitchhiker. He refuses to give him a ride.
Also, we are over 8 minutes into the episode before he shows up! We learn that this main dude is named Jack Rhodes. He has a lot of disguises and thinks he is the master of the illusion. But Jack is not the only one with tricks up his sleeve. Yes! Comeuppance! Comeuppance!
So this guy Jack is actually a salesman at an electronics store. He likes to brag to his coworkers about these conquests.
Co-workers Joey McIntyre and Wallace Shawn are not impressed.
We see the female video artist at the store as he is making a sale using his dynamic personality. She is still observing his behavior with disgust. When he gets home he notices a package at his door.
Wait a minute, am I watching Lost Highway now?
We get a good look at his apartment and his "last known photo" board and notice something a little weird.
Nice, huh? But what I'm not showing is that he has a section on this board labeled "foxes" and there are no photos under there.
He settles in to watch the mysterious tape.
Oh no, why does it look like Videodrome now? How many movies are in this?
Honestly I would be crapping my pants right now.
I mean I know it's a hot babe, but this video is still very disturbing.
Anyways, it's Monique, the artist in her underwear. She is saying her name is Barbara and that she wants to go on a date with Jack. Does he think this is from the video dating service, because I wouldn't think they just plop unmarked tapes in front of his door. I thought you had to go to a place to watch the tapes. Well despite this, she's a fox and we've established he's never been with a fox so he is up for anything.
Hmm, now it looks like Blue Velvet. I should probably stop obsessing over these movie references.
Their first date is playing video games. He plays a round and then she sets out to beat his score. She is the original gamer girl! Maybe she WAS creating a videogame from videotaping his car.
I immediately recognize the video game sounds to be from the game Centipede, however the game they show is shooting the letter E for some reason.
Maybe it's also an eye test, who knows. Defeat Enron!
She cuts the date off with the promise that they will see each other again. She invites him to her place for dinner. The building looks run down and this elevator...
I know, but now it looks like we are in an Adrian Lyne movie! Okay I'll stop.
She's cooking him dinner and he is being a total gentleman.
It's not a Hitchhiker episode without someone leering.
Monique changes in a dominatrix-type outfit under her clothes. They have dinner and retire to the bedroom. Jack immediately lets Monique tie him to the bed.
She reveals her sexy outfit and asks if he wants to play a game called Blastoff. I mean, it sounds pretty sexy right? Sounds like code for something else?
She puts on this neon metronome and says he has 1 minute to free himself or he will blastoff. Pretty cryptic.
This thing keeps booping faster and faster as Monique explains that she knows how he treats other women. Jack is upset and sounds like he wants to kill her, demanding she free him. The metronome goes even faster and then...
...his genitals explode? It looks like he dies in ball of flames. Wow what an ending!
Oh wait there's more.
I guess she had been filming this whole thing for her newest art installation. The people watching the exhibit seem confused, maybe they've never seen an episode of The Hitchhiker before.
There is an announcement showing the artist Monique is there and we get this big reveal.
It's Barbara! I mean, I knew she was the artist all along, were we only supposed to get that now?
Anyways, The Hitchhiker is leaving the art museum telling us that Jack Rhodes used the state of the art in video to get what he wanted (really, VCRs state of the art?) but when he had to do it for the sake of art , he went to pieces. Haha! Good one Page! An actual joke! I think he's enjoying Jack's suffering a little more than he should.
Let that be a lesson to everyone...pick up hitchhikers.
As I said before, this was a great episode that had it all, even the confusing ending. I mean, what actually happened to Jack and how did he explode like that? It's episodes like this that keeps me coming back for more, so until next time, be nice to people named Monique!

on M*A*S*H’s chronology It’s impossible to resolve M*A*S*H’s overall internal watsonian chronology from dates given in the dialog and with such uncontested statements as that Hot Lips’ engagement to Penobscott lasted eight months. So I posit each season of M*A*S*H took place in a different but similar, internally consistent alternate universe. A few examples:
In the universe where Season 1 occurred, Henry’s wife was named Mildred, Hot Lips’ father was dead, Hawkeye’s mother was alive, and the events documented probably took place between January 1951 and June 1952.
In the universe of Season 4, in which according to voiceover Potter took command on 19 September 1952, the events of e.g. Season 1 must have occurred approximately January 1951 to middle 1951, and the events of Season 4 will have occurred between September 1952 and, say, January 1953. Henry’s wife was named Lorraine and Potter’s was named Mildred.*
In the universe of Season 9 featuring A War For All Seasons documenting events from January 1951 to January 1952, the events of Seasons 1-8 must all be compressed into four to six months before January 1951. This is not at all possible, so clearly not all the events of Seasons 1-8 can have actually occurred. Also, by this far up the timelines, Hot Lips’ father is still alive and Hawkeye’s mother died when he was young.
For the universe of Season 11, I divide the duration of the Korean War into eleven equal parts, and this is the universe my M*A*S*H prose and cartoon fanfiction is set in.
The events of AfterM*A*S*H and W*A*L*T*E*R are set airdate minus thirty years, as suggested by the legend at the beginning of W*A*L*T*E*R. In the M*A*S*H universe now it’d be August 1994, which is years after even the last events portrayed on Trapper John, M.D. **
*Yet Season 4 is still impossible because 1) in Change of Command Potters’ first surgery session is also B.J.’s first surgery session 2) in The Bus B.J. says he spent a week under Frank’s command 3) in The Interview B.J. says he performed several amputations before he had his first breakfast there. this is the sort of thing there is to deal with (my cartoons deal with it here)
**Except in my cartoons I jumped to the present somewhere down the line, with Hawkeye complaining about his hundredth birthday in a cartoon set on his actual hundredth birthday relative to the air schedules of everything else in my crossover paradigm.
i think i'm starting to figure this out

Dr Henry Jekyll's POV
I had been hearing rumours that there was a new wealthy family in Soho. The father of the family worked for the government and most of the children were unmarried, of age women.Out of all places to live, they chose Soho?
My good friend, Mr Utterson, had already met the family. He thought of them as a chaotic but loveable family.
That statement alone encouraged me to go to their beautiful and expensive house to invite them to my next dinner party.
I made my way into the family's beautiful garden and through to the doorstep. I take a deep breath and knock on the door gently.
I heard a deep voice from inside yell 'Give us a moment!' I assumed that was one of the children or the father.
The door opened and I saw a man holding a small child. I smile at him.
"Good evening sir, I'm Dr Henry Jekyll. I've heard very highly of your family." The man grins at that statement. "I'm glad to hear that Dr Jekyll. My name's Jonathan L/N, this is my youngest daughter Adelia. There's plenty more children inside."
The young girl looks up at me with an adorable smile. I let her hold my finger as I shake it, imitating a handshake.
"Do come in Dr, I wouldn't want you outside in these conditions." I simply shook my head.
"No no Sir L/N, I'm having a dinner party and ball later this week at my house and I was wondering if you and your family would care to join us? Any of you can come." Jonathan nods. As we exchange details, I see quite a few heads pop out to see what was going on.
I would just remind myself that I was gonna meet them all properly very soon.
Timeskip
It was the day of my party, everything was going perfectly but I had seen no sightings of Jonathan or his family. Rather than feeling glad like I normally would, I felt disappointed. I had been quite excited to meet the family.
As I was deep in thought, I heard the servants at the door greeting more people.
I instantly make my way over and I see Jonathan, his wife and his kids going through the door. I underestimated how many kids he had. There had to be at least 8 or 9 children.
Schlatt sees my expression and chuckles. "I see you're impressed that we can have multiple children without failure?" I sheepishly nod at the man.
Jonathan and I talked away from the rest of the children.
After a little time, I had realised that I hadn't actually met most of the children from Jonathan's large family.
"Jonathan, I believe that I haven't really had the pleasure to meet your family. May you introduce me?" Jonathan nods and takes me over to where they all sat with their mother and another woman, who's face I couldn't see.
He started introducing me to the children, youngest to oldest. I hadn't met the eldest of the group so far. I had assumed that the lady with her back turned was the final child.
Jonathan puts a proud hand on the woman's shoulder. "This is my eldest and most beautiful daughter, Y/N." The girl turned to look at me and I felt like I had been struck with a bolt of love.
I always thought love by first sight was a lie. I guess I needed to stop lying to myself instead.
The girl was perfect. From her H/T, H/C hair to her E/S, E/C eyes. Her dress was a beautiful F/C. It brought out her eyes.
I stared at her before noticing her father nudging me "Are you alright Henry?" I nod to him.
"Sorry sir. Pleased to meet you MISS Y/N." I bring Y/N's gloved hand up and kiss it. Y/N smiled down at me.
"The pleasure is all mine Dr Jekyll."
Further into the night, it came time for the dance. A lot of women were asking me to dance but I refused, looking around for Y/N. Where could she be?
After a while, I found her in a corner, talking to Adelia as the young girl giggled and smiled.
I approach the two and Adelia notices me first. "Hey it's the nice man from the door!"
Y/N turned to see me. Her face lit up. "So you were describing Dr Jekyll this whole time?" Adelia playfully smacked Y/N's arm.
I held my hand out towards Y/N. "Miss L/N, would you let me have the honour of being your first dance?" Y/N giggles and holds my hand back.
"Dr Jekyll, I would be delighted to also be your first dance." I felt a blush crawl onto my cheeks as I realised she had been watching me look for her the whole time.
She pats my shoulder and takes me towards the dancefloor, where many men and women staredin jealousy as this beautiful woman and I danced before anyone else could.
I saw Jonathan looking at us with a proud grin on his face. His wife, Victoria, was also watching. Jonathan simply gave me a thumbs up.
After a while of dancing, Y/N dragged me off the dance floor and into the desolate hallway. She then takes us to one of my balconies. I smiled at her "Was there any need to take me out of my own party?" She simply nods and takes her shoes off carefully.
"It was far too hot in that room and if I wear these shoes for another second I'm afraid they'll fall off!" She states dramatically. I laughed with her as we leaned on each other for support.
Y/N was a great person with an even better sense of humour.
"Your father seemed happy, so did your mother. Do you know why?" Y/N nodded. "May I know why?" She pretends to think.
"Give me a good reason I should tell you?" I chuckle at her and respond quickly "Because we're two foolish adults laughing about feet falling off, what shouldn't we tell eachother?" Y/N nodded her head to the side in agreement.
"Well if you must know, I've never really been fond of men. They would have to pay men to offer their love to me but I don't want to fall in love because of money. I want a real love who loves me because they love ME, if that makes any sense." I smile and put a hand on hers which was resting on the stone railing.
"I understand what you mean, Y/N. You wouldn't have to worry about that if you married me though." I teased playfully and nudged her shoulder. She looks me deep in the eyes "I wish you actually meant that."
I stopped for a moment before replying "What if I did?" Y/N stared at me with shock and love laced into her expression. "Then you would be a bit foolish to fall in love with a silly old doctor when you have Earls practically begging for your attention.
She shook her head "I've always liked smarter men anyway. Besides, you're not old. We're both barely in our thirties."
We both hold eye contact for a few moments before leaning in. We both seemed to realise it was far too early for kissing and we awkwardly looked away. "I'm sorry Henry, I'd rather get to know you before doing anything like that." I nod at her decision.
"And I will choose to respect that until you are ready."

Just Give Me Time (Charlie Barber x Reader)
Summary: One day when going through Charlies night stand you find something you really didn't expect to find.
Warnings: Angst, infidelity, cheating, mentions of divorce
Word Count: 1,907
You were bustling around Charlie’s apartment filling up a small backpack ready for the day. It was a warm Saturday afternoon and the plan was already lain out; you were going out to photograph the new vintage fair that had come into the city a couple of weeks ago. You and Charlie rarely had days out, both of you makes excuses of being too tired from work so the principle of getting an outing with your boyfriend made you giddy! Charlie had already promised to treat you to as many cotton candies and ice cream you could muster, watching you bounce around like a little excited kid made his heart swell with joy.
“Charlie!” you called out throughout the apartment “Where did you put the little bag for the digital camera?”
“Ummm… try my night stand” he said absentmindedly, rustling around in the bags to get them ready.
You pulled your eyebrows down in confusion popping your head round the door, “Why would they be-“ but he was already walking away from you into the kitchen. You rolled your eyes and figured you’d give his suggestion a shot.
Making your way into the bedroom you slid open the top drawer on his side of the bed.
You didn’t even register what you were looking at at first, brain still in a rush to find this camera bag and get out the door, but then your eyes focussed a little more on what was in front of you.
For some reason you sunk to your knees, almost following your stomach which had dropped down to your feet. The voice in the back of your brain reminded you that you’d never been in this drawer, not that you’d had a reason too. Charlie kept his reading material, phone and glasses on the top of the stand, condoms in the bottom drawer and medications in the bathroom so why else would you need to go in here.
But now you knew why.
Sitting in the back of the drawer on Charlie’s side of the bed was a simple gold ring on top of a picture of a little boy, probably about 7 or 8 years old.
Walking back into the living room you could see Charlie packing the last few things into your bag, on any other occasion you would see this as a sweet gesture but right now you could barely stand to look at him. Your eyes almost immediately dragged themselves away from him as your stomach churned. “What’s this?” you asked in a small voice, trying to keep your tone neutral. A tiny part of you was hoping there was a reasonable explanation. Your hands shook a little holding the two items out to him, surely there had to be another reason?
Maybe the ring was his grandads and it was a gift when he passed away? Maybe the boy was a nephew you didn’t know about?
Charlie turned to you smiling, looking from your face down to your outstretched hands, and stopped dead in his tracks. The sudden twist of his features told you everything you needed to know. Instant silent tears began to drip steadily down your cheeks as the reality washed over you.
“Are you married?” despite your determination to keep your voice level having to utter those words made you tremble. Despite how nauseous the words made you it had to be him that told you, no room for presumptions or assuming the worst – you needed to hear him say it.
“S-sweetheart, listen I-“
“Are you married?” you shouted, anger and humiliation bubbled over and you couldn’t bear to hear him stammer.
A simple, quiet reply was all that followed, “Yes”
You scoffed in shock and held your stomach tight, fighting the bile that threatened to rise up. Your legs felt like they wanted to collapse again, like everything in your body was telling you to ground yourself in this ridiculous reality.
“We’re divorcing!” Charlie rushed out, taking a step towards you. Holding your hand up you stopped him, not wanting him to come any closer to you let alone touch you. Your skin crawled as his fingers stayed outstretched.
“Do you think that matters?” you spat; he waved his hands in response like he was attempting to get words to come out. You noticed that they were shaking as he did so.
You continued in his silence, “We’ve been seeing each other for nearly 9 months Charlie! You didn’t think to mention that you were still married?”
He nodded, “Of course I did but… it’s complicated”
“OH I’m sure it is!”
You looked down at the little collection you had in your hands, the tip of your thumb played with the worn gold band but you were focussed on the picture that was below it.
“Your son?” you asked accusingly, holding it up for him to see.
He nodded again, this was the quietest you’d seen Charlie in a long time and you were almost pleased, “Henry”
“Cute name” you sniffed and wiped the cascading tears away roughly with the back of your hand.
A deathly uncomfortable silence fell over the room; all that could be heard was Charlie’s laboured breathing and your sniffles. It was a pathetic scene to say the least. Suddenly, like a white hot flash, you realised you were still clutching the picture with his wedding ring and you felt dirty. You unceremoniously dropped them onto the side table next to you, fighting the temptation to wipe your hands down your jeans.
There was no real shouting, no screaming, throwing things and calling him names. The reality was dumbstruck silence. You felt like you’d been hit by a truck, your limbs shook and your stomach ached. Blinking your eyes you tried to push away the tears and the fact that your head felt like it was spinning.
You were the other woman, at the ripe old age of 28 you were a mistress. It made your blood boil in your veins to think you’d been tricked into hurting another woman.
“How did I not know?” a question for yourself as well as him, you stood shaking your head in disbelief as you received no reply, “I’m so stupid!”
Charlie stuttered, no words making an appearance before his shoulders slumbered and his voice quietened. You stared at him, eyes wide with the horror at his lack of even a defence.
“I’m going home” you said turning frantically to find your jacket and bag.
“Please wait…” Charlie whispered, now the tears began spilling down his cheeks as he spoke up. You noticed how his bottom lip shook as he reached out for you and it made your stomach twist with a strange sympathy. His large hands grappled with your forearms as you tried to stand back from him but his grip was strong enough to hold you.
You gasped a little as he dug his fingers into your skin in desperation, “You’re hurting me” you whimpered and he instantly let go.
“I love you”
Staring up at him you didn’t know whether to slap him or hold him, his face held the picture of complete grief. You shook your head in response and now it was your turn to stutter, lowering your gaze to the floor you kept your eyes on your feet.
Before you could really form words he kept speaking, “I love you! I love you! I love you!” he gasped in a breath and his hands returned to cover your forearms.
“Please don’t go. I… I should have told you. I was going too! But I was scared I would lose him”
Those words caused your eyes to snap up to his face. He nodded, “I thought she would go after me if she knew…. I would never see my son again!” and then it was like something snapped inside him and his towering body crumpled.
Slipping down to his knees he rested his palms on your hips, curling his fingers to grip the material of your jumper. Your body swayed with the force of his actions and your hands found steadying purchase on his broad heaving shoulders. Charlie sobbed, unabashed and completely broken, into your body. Your own tears joined in and you couldn’t help but weave your fingers into his hair and stroke gently along his scalp.
“Please just… give me time to explain everything. There’s so much… I-I can’t…” he cried, coughing and spluttering around his sobs.
“Charlie I-“
“Please!” he practically screamed, in that moment he gazed up at you and your heart shattered once again.
Nothing about him felt malicious or cruel; he was just a lost man who didn’t know what to do. A man whose own actions caused a whirlwind in his life that he didn’t know how to control. A man who just loved his son.
“I-I’m also going to need time” you stuttered, bending down to his level. He still sobbed violently remaining clutched too you as best as he could. Your brain felt like it was rattling in your skull, mere moments ago you were happily in love with the most amazing, brilliant, strong dependable man and now…. now you didn’t know anything.
You stroked back his ruffled hair that was sticking to the tears on his face, snot ran down his top lip from the force of his sobs and you scrunched your jumper sleeve to wipe it away. He nodded rapidly in response to your statement, chewing on his bottom lip to stop it from wobbling, and brought his hands up to cup your face.
“Do you understand that I never meant to hurt you?” he asked, “You are the one thing, other than my son, that has kept me alive through all this fucking shit! You are the one thing that makes me happy. Everything is so… fucked up!”
Everything was so fucked up. Everything was so confusing and you didn’t know what the right answer was here. Part of you wanted to walk out and never come back; your friends would scold you for even still being here. They’d tell you that Charlie lied for 9 whole months! And that divorce or no divorce he was a married man with a child who had stakes in all this. A young kid who would live his whole life affected by your actions from here on out.
But this was the problem - you loved Charlie, that’s why it was confusing. You loved him more than anyone you’d ever met and you just couldn’t let yourself make this so cut and dry. Your heart ached to see Charlie cry and… you didn’t know the situation really. For all you knew his soon to be ex-wife was the worst person alive and she deserved everything she got.
You tried to convince yourself of that but honestly it wasn’t all that convincing. She was probably just some normal woman just like Charlie was some normal man. Maybe she fucked him up, maybe she didn’t.
In this moment you realised you didn’t want to save him. But maybe you could still love him. You were making no promises other than to hear him out, with the ever present threat that you could decide to leave him and never come back if this situation didn’t feel right.
Reaching up you brushed back tears from his flushed cheeks, you nodded once to confirm you understood.
“Just… give me time”

Thursday 7 September 1837

fine morning but dull F56° now at 8 ¾ am breakfast with A- at 9 in about ½ hour – long since we have breakfasted regularly tête-à-tête - Townend the horse-dealer came to look at the 2 bays Hotspur ‘a very plain horse’ and Buffler putting out a curb (just above coronet, inside, offhird leg) thought I should not get more than £30 for the 2 – would take them to Howden fair for me and sell them as well as he could – would shew me a bill of expense tolls and keep – hay 1/6 a night and corn 1/. and about 1/. worth more during the day = 3/6 per day – and would want 20/. a piece for selling them – I said that was very fair – told him what the horses had cost me price and expense and ditto of breaking – he brought a chesnut horse aetatis 5 price 30 guineas – had almost taken the chesnut for the 2 bays but did not like him on seeing him – chesnut, low condition and not good action of his hindlegs – but good high shoulder – said I did not like his action – would keep my 2 bays and T- to come a few days before Howden fair to see if I had not sold the horses – if not, to trim them up for the fair – explained what I wanted for A-any colour but gray (liked chesnut the next least) and from 13 ½ to 13 hands and from 5 to 7 years old – advised me to ask £40 for the two bays, - even if I took less – would not like to buy the ponies now – advised my giving them a winters’ run out – might perhaps make £40 of them in the spring – would not want much hay or any corn till taken up – Mrs. Day (Franks’ wife) sent me the 2 keys of her house at Mytham early this morning – gone to live in the new bank – one of Mr. Haighs’ houses – to the back – at £5 per annum – sometime with Townend – about 10 came the wood for Leeds that Blythe bought on Saturday – some for Little Marsh – oak logs and a few planks for Shibden hall. out about till came in at 12 50 – Mr. Harper had Booth and was to have luncheon at 1 ½ - left him saying I would see him at 2 – wrote the above of today till now 1 ½ - wrote and gave to Mr. Harper note to ‘Mr. Brown artist York’ to say Mrs. Lister sorry and ashamed to have let his prospectus of the work he is going to publish lie so long on my writing table – unanswered A- and I both of us anxious for his success – considered ourselves on his list of subscriber from the time of promising our names about 2 years ago – with Mr. Harper from 2 to 5 – settled everything Mr. Parker at Harrogate – H- saw Mr. Adam – lucky – A- has not so good an opinion of Mr. Carr as P- has A- thinks C- is trying to do the best he can for himself (in fact, to frighten Mr. Rayner into terms and stay at the Swan!) – I thinkg A- is more right than P- I proposed C-‘s keeping on the coaches to convenience me for a month or 2 to be at Northgate but then said I if he once gets into the house, query, will he go on, and on, and stay there? – surprised to find that Messrs. P- and A- considered this a matter of course! I said P- must know I had no idea of this kind – for I had only talked of C-‘s keeping on the coaches for me at the Swan – it seems C- had told P- and A- he valued the ground of the coaches at £600 – P- told me he (P-) thought it would be worth a few hundreds – but never hinted at £600 tho’ he probably knew it at that moment! – H- proposed consulting Mr. Barber of York -who would let his understrappers (Mr. Dobron in particular) help and value for us – Mr. B- might perhaps help us to some proper person to put into the hotel – H- will be in York on Monday next, and will write me word what B- says. whatever proposal C- makes to get it in writing – H- thinks the coaches may be with £600 – has no fear of the hotel paying very well by and by – explained about the cattle market and Mr. Littles’ visit – said I had nearly made up my mind to have nothing to do with the cattle market – H- said he was sure it would not pay, and seemed well satisfied at my giving up all thought of it – but said I should keep my determination to myself and merely if a deputation came to me, decline the terms offered – saw that they wanted to fasten me before the act was got for the New road to Keighley – I would wait the event of this – this new road thro’ my property into Orange street would be a great advantage to my property – the area of the York cattle market = 3 acres – mentioned my wish to have only 2 joiners after the end of October and to get Blythe out of the house – to let me know what time the hall will take 2 men to finish and what time the tower will take – the tower top room to be done first – Harrison of Grimsby near the hall and a man in London (name not remembered) the only 2 men for making a stable clock or clock to be fixed in the laundry gable –
Arnold, of the strand, who makes chronometers for the admiralty man G- would get a watch of H- gave me all Booths’ bills up to midsummer last –
H- put me in good spirits enough about the hotel – I hope he will get me thro’ with it pretty tolerably – had just written the last 33 lines at 5 35 – then out in spite of rain which had just come on till 6 50 – just looked round to see what had been done – the top step of the turret set – the paving of the carriage court finished this morning – Baldwin here dressing the slates that came off the old saddle room – Edward Waddington and Robert and John Sharpe at the walling under the lime tree all today and yesterday and began the afternoon of Tuesday I think – vide – James and Mark Sharpe began yesterday evening preparing pulling down wall, and this morning got stuff removed and began building the pillars of the garden gates removed to the new road to the hot-houses – Parkinson and all his men at the top terrace wall Robert and Richard the York Joiners planning up stuff all today and yesterday for the Lodge gates – Henry Rile flooring west tower low closet – William – at the little dressing room quondam china or egg closet – stood some time talking to Robert Mann under the masons’ shed (his men sloping down wheat-field slope of road along the laundry court wall and taking soil off for the embankment in the old paddock) – very heavy rain when I came in at 6 50 – A- had returned about 6, and did not get wet – dressed – dinner at 7 10 – A- and I enjoyed our tête-à-tête – coffee – we came upstairs at 9 35 – she went to bed – I wrote the last 13 lines till 10 ¼ at which hour F53° - fine day but dull till about (after) 5 then light rain which came on heavily between 6 and 7 and continued for sometime – fair I think now at 10 ¼ pm sat reading the gentleman’s magazine of this month till 11 -

This is great.
And I wanna reemphasize OP's point: There are no right or wrong answers because the dates and time periods as given in the show dialogue cannot be resolved. (For instance, in Margaret's Marriage the engagement is stated to have lasted eight months and in A War for All Seasons Charles is presented as having been well established at the unit by the beginning of 1951, which in combination put the beginning of the engagement before the war starts.)
My way around all this, chronology and other continuity elements, is: I posit each season of M*A*S*H took place in a different but similar, internally consistent alternate universe.
In the universe of Season 9 featuring A War For All Seasons documenting events from January 1951 to January 1952, the events of Seasons 1-8 must all be compressed into the six months before January 1951. This is not at all possible, so not all the events of Seasons 1-8 can have actually occurred. Also, by this far up the timelines, Hot Lips’ father is still alive and Hawkeye’s mother died when he was young.
For the universe of Season 11, I divide the duration of the Korean War into eleven equal parts, and this is the universe my M*A*S*H fanfiction cartoons are set in.
The events of AfterM*A*S*H and W*A*L*T*E*R are set airdate minus thirty years, as suggested by the legend at the beginning of W*A*L*T*E*R. In the M*A*S*H universe now it’s April 1993, which is years after even the last events portrayed on Trapper John, M.D.
*Yet Season 4 dialogue is still internally impossible because 1) in Change of Command Potters’ first surgery session is also B.J.’s first surgery session 2) in The Bus B.J. says he spent a week under Frank’s command 3) in The Interview B.J. says he performed several amputations before he had his first breakfast there. this is the sort of thing there is to deal with
Alright as promised, it's: Time, for my
KOREAN WAR F*CKING TIMELINE
This is something I've been working on off & on while watching M*A*S*H these past months. It began as just notes taken from the Wikipedia page "Korean War," then briefly served as a log for all the incongruous mentions of dates or time passage on the show, before I cheerfully abandoned that for something that interested me far more: the M*A*S*H AU where it's set in the Korean War [laugh track].
This is my vision:
June 25, 1950: The conflict known in the U.S. as The Korean War breaks out. First major U.S. troop engagement is in early July. By August, North Korea has taken Seoul, and South Korea and their allied United Nations forces have been pushed south and east nearly into the sea, holding just a small area being called the Pusan Perimeter.
Ten months before the first episode of M*A*S*H, in September, 1950, Army doctor Frank Burns and draftee surgeon Benjamin Franklin Pierce, both stated to have been there “since almost the beginning” and dealing with each other “forever,” are dispatched to a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital to provide medical aid during the push back out the Pusan Perimeter, under greatly increased tank and air support. They are under the command of a military doctor we don’t know, but definitely regular Army. It basically a perpetual bug out: U.S. forces keep advancing north, north, north, take Seoul back and keep going on into North Korea, making it almost to the Yalu River bordering China. Then, on October 19th: China joins the war, and promptly starts bludgeoning them right back south again.
In mid-November, 1950, facing this transformed situation with the Chinese Army’s involvement, the previous CO is taken off to another unit, and I Corps sets up civilian doctor Henry Blake in charge of the floating MASH 4077 unit still being tossed around on the shores of the battle, inheriting two very differently rattled surgeons, and packed by the Army in his carry-on luggage, a young clerk fresh out of high school named Walter O’Reilly. That December sees very heavy fighting. It’s a hard winter. On January 4th, 1951, Chinese & North Korean forces re-capture Seoul.
In the first few months of the new year, the 4077 is still mostly just trying to stay above water as the line swings back and forth, but are starting to settle somewhat, geographically, near the 38th parallel. I Corps starts further filling out the unit; in early February, 1951, as she mentions, Margaret Houlihan and Francis Mulcahy arrive together, a career Army head nurse and a volunteer chaplain. On March 14th, the South Korean allies re-take Seoul again, for the final time. In their joy, Margaret and Frank, instantly smitten, officially make it unofficial.
April, 1951: President Truman relieves General MacArthur, and John McIntyre and Maxwell Klinger arrive, with the wildflowers. After the long winter, Henry looks at his wayward ghost doctor’s shadowed eyes brightening as he and Trapper grin at each other, and actually breathes a sigh of relief. The fighting is very active that spring, but the casualties are mostly on the North Korean side.
July, 1951, start of the two-year ‘stalemate’ period, in which both armies just kept shooting at each other on a line hardly moved, and the beginning of the television show M*A*S*H.
Nine months later, another April, 1952: both Henry and Trapper are taken. Henry had been in Korea just under a year and a half; Trapper, as Hawkeye says, lived with him for a year. New (very new) doctor BJ Hunnicutt and two-war veteran CO Sherman T. Potter arrive on their heels. When baby BJ meets a bedraggled Hawkeye Pierce at the Kimpo airfield, he has been a surgeon in the 4077 for 19 months.
Three months later it’s July, 1952, and for Frank Burns, it’s finally the end of the line. In the heat of the summer, Charles Emerson Winchester arrives to replace him, for the second half of the two-year period the show covers, and the final year of the war. Mapped onto this timeline, Margaret’s entire relationship with Lieutenant Colonel Donald Penobscott lasts about two and a half months. I’m proud of many things in this timeline, but this might be funniest and most true.
The Korean War will end by the time we reach the next July. Halfway through, in January, 1953, Radar goes home. Corporal O’Reilly ran this MASH for 2 years and 2 months, and when he goes, it’s immediately clear he took half its heart with him. Klinger dons fatigues and takes on the role of company clerk for the 6 months that remain.
Armistice is signed on July 27, 1953. Charles would have been there one year, BJ and Potter 16 months, Klinger 2 years and 4 months, Margaret 2 years and 6, and Hawkeye: 2 years and 10.

While I have no time to draw I found that thing from twitter and I don't think it would be bad if I post at least anything till I'll be free to draw?? and let's say that's just one another post before I'll finally add some of It in my blog
I'll just answer all in one post let's go, guys
(Movies & mini series & book mixed)
1. Favorite female character
I don't think there're a lot of 'em lol. But
Patricia Uris
That's right, not Beverly. Patti has one(!) chapter and somehow I fell in love with her character while reading it. She's got her own story before Stan and she's got a very very very beautiful relationships with him.
(I'm so in love with Uris family I mean whyyyy can't I just have some Stan with his pretty wife and a CHILD THANK U VERY MUCH)
2. Favorite male character
RICHIE
I'm just in love with him he's perfect next
3. Worst character
Bill?
OK, let's talk about it. I was kinda neutral to everyone in the Loser club except Richie for a year or more. Then while being in fandom I fell in love with these guys like with everyone of 'em concluding Bill. But when I decided to actually read a book... why is he so stupid and careless and fjligvdsvfuklugxseggh
Moron.
I really tried not to be "of course u let kid go alone what will happen right??" but this.fucking.weather.this.fucking.fact.that.Georgie.told.him.he.was.about.to.go.to.the.closed.area.u.know.closed.bc.it.was.dangerous.to.go.there like BOY, u killed ur brother when he stepped out of the house HAVE U EVEN LOOKED TO THE WINDOW???? Was it ur plan how to get rid of him bc he was clever and better than u and everyone loved him more? Bc if it was, well, congratulations! it worked not like u expected but still worked!
I'm bullying Bill Denbro in my house I wish for the alternative version with George as a main character instead of him-
4. Favorite scene
Richie and Beverly dancing together
I LOVE their friendship they're like BEST BROTP EVER
I love all their interactions and I find it SO ADORABLE they danced together I always think about it ...about 'em
5. Favorite member of the Loser club
Well, again? Fine. RICHIE
6. Original or remake?
I'd say book? But if we're talking only about films when of course remake
I saw mini series some time ago and that was cute and had a lot from the book (and abult Eddie-) but it was so naive and looked kinda stupid (sorry everyone but I'm the new auditory and I can't get that seriously especially after new films) while new films... Weeelll...
Let's be honest, I saw It 2017 only bc of James McAvoy in the second chapter and I found it boring. And then the second part I found more like a comedy than horror. I didn't like films that time but I liked characters (Richie). Some weeks ago I rewathed both It 2017 and It 2019 and second one is still too long and a comedy but first I found interesting
So remake is great at least on the second time watching and that's enough
7. Reddie?
Reddie is always the answer it's never a question cuz the answer is YES all the answers YES
8. Ben of Bill?
Oh that's a question for me and my hate to Bill!
Ben OF COURSE
Not only bc I hate Bill, Ben is awesome himself. In films he was more leader for the Losers that Bill and Mike like together?? And have u seen that he did fo Henry in the book? Damn boy u're way too cool slow down
9. Best ship
Look question 7
10. Worst ship
OK it took a lot time to find the one bc I don't think there's any ship I would actually hate or smth but if thiiink Bill × Beverly
First, bc Bill?? Seriously?? Go and find someone better, my girl
Second, bc Ben and Bev have much more chemistry (god, Richie and Bev have more chemistry and this tells the person who would kill for reddie)
11. Book or movie?
Book
(and if u say the book is too big I swear I-)
12. Tim or Bill as Pennywise
Why do u need to ask such difficult questions?? I mean, I love every version of Pennywise no matter if it's book or 1990 or 2017-2019 they all are great in their own ways
So both Tim and Bill have an extreme charisma, different but equal in power
I like Tim's Penny bc he's simple and warm I mean c'mon I would definetly hug him or anything and die happy, I mean, he just got ur trust??? And I like how bad effects make him seams not like an awful monster who will eat u but like a friendly mischief (listen me up: he makes sink dirty right after Bev cleaned it up like phhhhhhhhahaha really u're a moron u know). Yeah, that's not that Pennywise is meant to be but that's adorable
And I love Bill's version bc he does look scary (in a some way, of course). Yeah yeah new effects are doing their work and the costume is less friendly than Tim's but the most important is Bill's acting. His mimic and expressions are perfect he fits this role way too good. And, damn, he's so funny like... Yeah, I'd spend my last minutes with him he's great, that would be the most hilarious death I could ever get
So... can I just say both??

M*A*S*H: The Characters, Part 3: Frank Burns, Radar O’Reilly, Maxwell Klinger, and Father Francis Mulcahy
While characters like Hawkeye and Margaret grew and changed, and other characters, like Trapper and Henry, moved on (in one way or another), some characters found themselves doing neither: rather, stagnating, before in a way, moving backwards.
Such is the unlucky fate of Major Frank (Ferret Face) Burns (Larry Linville).
Frank was everything unlikeable about humanity without going quite so far as to be evil. Hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Frank had a wife and kids back home that he didn’t seem to care much for, choosing instead to have an affair with Major Margaret Houlihan, the only other person who could stand his company. A Dr. Jerk if there ever was one, Frank’s lack of bedside manner (and even lack of surgical expertise) could make him a liability, not to mention his incredibly strict sense of military discipline, even when it didn’t make any sense. Definitely The Friend No One Likes, Frank originated as a Foil for Hawkeye, another Gung Holier Than Thou type who put all his faith and trust in the army. Greedy and self serving, and always seeking to climb the ranks, Frank was The Neidermeyer, a huge stickler for army rules and constantly trying to enforce them, but not possessing any of the guts to go with the army worship
And we’re not even close to done with his problems.
Frank’s job was to represent the dangers of blind patriotism and military fervor. A Leader Wannabe on top of being a Lawfully Stupid Hate-Sink, Frank existed to make mistakes, act childishly, and overall be a thorn in the side of the 4077th. In early seasons, he would often pair with Margaret in order to ‘take down’ whatever operation Hawkeye and Trapper had going, but as time went on, and Margaret left him for her fiancé, Frank became more and more pathetic, and by the time B.J. came aboard to replace Trapper, Frank had lost all weight and depth as a character entirely. His racism and sexism were getting played so ridiculously exaggeratedly, as well as his numerous other flaws, that he was quickly losing any threat as an antagonist, and even his Freudian Excuse of a miserable childhood wasn’t lending him much sympathy.
Without Margaret to back him up, Frank became more ineffective as an ‘antagonist’ character, or even a foil, quickly turning into a universal Butt Monkey and the show’s Chew Toy. With scarce a victory to his name, and quickly turning into a caricature of his own, already exaggerated, character, Frank had nowhere to go but down, devolved to a point of cartoonish buffoonery that there was no bouncing back from. To make things worse, the show was maturing, without him, with more nuanced characters like B.J. Hunnicutt replacing Trapper, and Reasonable Authority Figure Colonel Sherman Potter taking the place of the incompetent pushover Henry Blake, Frank was rapidly becoming lost in a show that was becoming more serious and realistic. As a result, at the end of season five, after Margaret’s marriage, Frank Burns went the way of Trapper and Henry, and left the show: albeit in a completely different way.
In the pilot two-part episode of season six, Frank Burns goes on leave in Tokyo, and (over the telephone, as Larry Linville doesn’t appear at all in the episode) the audience, and the 4077th, are treated to hearing Frank’s mental breakdown following Margaret’s marriage. After attacking a general and his wife (who resembled Margaret), he’s apprehended, and placed under psychiatric observation, following which he was cleared of all charges, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and sent home to serve stateside.
In a way, it was almost a level of gut-punch as Henry’s departure, and a bitter taste of irony. Men like Frank made it home, and were rewarded for their behavior, while men like Henry never got the chance.
It wasn’t fair, sure. But such is life.
Like Henry and Trapper, Major Frank Burns was never forgotten by the show, or the characters, remembered all the way to the end of season eleven, his absence felt, if not missed, for the remainder of the series.
Which is a distinct dishonor not shared by the last member of the cast to depart before the series ended: Corporal Walter Eugene “Radar” O’Reilly. (Gary Burghoff)
Radar was the company clerk in position, but so much more in practice. The embodiment of the Hyper-Competent Sidekick, Radar was the ‘baby of the bunch’, a naïve Country Mouse from Ottumwa, Iowa with a sneaky streak that showed itself when least expected. The character with the most obvious reason for their nickname, “Radar” had a habit of being able to sense what was about to happen, or what someone was going to say before they knew themselves. Whether he just had exceptionally good senses and reflexes or was mildly psychic, the show never said, but it’s hard to say that the 4077th didn’t benefit from his ability to anticipate the helicopters arriving with the wounded.
Radar started the show as a kid with a worldly streak and a devious side, before slowly losing these traits as the series went on, becoming more innocent and child-like by the time season four rolled around. One thing remained the same though: no matter what, Radar practically ran the 4077th by himself.
The person in charge of the paperwork, and chiefly the cog in the machine that made stuff happen, Radar’s position as the Scrounger often meant he was responsible for the critical elements in Hawkeye’s madcap schemes (in early seasons especially). Radar was always the centerpoint of competency, (the sole one until Colonel Potter showed up) despite his own quirks: sleeping with a teddy-bear and abstaining from alcohol (mostly), preferring grape Nehis, and caring for every animal that happened to cross his path. In fact, Radar’s chief Berserk Button (besides his height) was anybody harming any animals, to the point where he ended up rescuing the lamb meant for Easter dinner and shipping it stateside, not to mention his explosions of temper at the thought of Hawkeye killing his rabbit to perform a pregnancy test.
Radar tended to follow along with whatever Hawkeye and company were up to, sometimes begrudgingly and sometimes willingly, depending on the situation, always relied upon to make necessary calls and deals, file necessary paperwork, and fill in wherever necessary. In return, the rest of the unit filled in as ‘family’ for Radar, though never replacing his mother and uncle.
Despite his varying levels of immaturity throughout the seasons, Radar did grow up, and out from under his 4077th family (especially father figures Henry Blake and Sherman Potter). Early in season eight, Radar got the news of his uncle’s death, leaving only his mother to take care of the family farm, and received a Hardship Discharge. He got to go home.
And go home he did, although with mixed feelings about how the 4077th would get on without him. Behind him, he left the symbol of his immaturity: his teddy bear, which would later be buried by Hawkeye in a time capsule in “As Time Goes By”.
“This is my contribution. Radar left me this. Let it stand for all the soldiers who came over here as boys and went home as men.”
Like with Henry (also honored in “As Time Goes By” with his fishing lure), Trapper and Frank, Radar’s departure was felt by the characters, and referenced often. Unlike Henry, Trapper, and Frank, however, Radar wasn’t replaced in the cast. At least, not by a new cast member.
Instead, he was replaced by a fellow corporal, Maxwell Klinger (Jamie Farr).
Klinger was a bit of an anomaly in the M*A*S*H cast in that he had no book counterpart from which he sprang: he was all new, added entirely for the television show. Hailing from Toledo, Ohio, Max Klinger’s primary character trait was a loathing for the army that manifested itself somewhat differently than it did in the rest of the camp.
Whereas Radar was content to complain, and B.J. and Trapper fine with moderate actions of rebellion, or even Hawkeye settling for vocal disapproval and the occasional mental breakdown, Maxwell Klinger chose to express his displeasure with the draft by doing everything humanly possible in order to get out of the army: specifically by being declared clinically insane.
Throughout the eleven years he spent on the show, Klinger tried everything from wearing women’s clothing to pole sitting in an attempt to get a Section 8 discharge, a pass out of the army. Medical conditions, family emergencies, wearing heavy coats in a heatwave, sneaking out in a raft, hang glider, or a hearse, Klinger’s schemes regularly made up the subplot of a typical episode of M*A*S*H as he attempted to find a way to escape the military. (Oddly enough though, his schemes never got in the way of his duties.)
Klinger started out as a one-off joke character early in the first season, played deliberately in a stereotypically effeminate way. Originally meant to appear in only one episode, reception to the character was incredibly favorable, and Klinger was added to the recurring main cast, going through a little bit of a change. Actor Jamie Farr suggested that Klinger be a straight man who was just wearing dresses as though they were his uniform, and the matter-of-fact use of his unconventional wardrobe quickly became part of the character’s normal routine, looked on as perfectly normal by all except the antagonistic characters.
Despite starting as a one-note joke, throughout his time on the show, Klinger grew, just like the rest of them.
While never losing his intense hatred for the military and desire to get out, as time went on, Klinger became more rounded, expanding from just his ‘joke’ personality to having a larger one, demonstrating a deeply caring streak multiple times, notably when he gave Margaret his wedding dress for her marriage to Donald Penobscott. Throughout the show’s run, more time was given to develop his other attributes: his hard-luck background, his long-distance wedding and divorce, get rich quick schemes, a feud with supply Sergeant Elmo Zale, and his fears that he may actually be going crazy, explored in “War of Nerves”.
In season eight, right after Radar O’Reilly left the show, Klinger found another place on the show: replacement clerk and Scrounger.
At this point, Max’s character shifted slightly, away from the zany schemes and Obfuscating Insanity. He quit most of the section-8 schemes, notably the women’s dresses, entirely, but remaining a Guile Hero with Hidden Depths, without rescinding into the background. Initially finding it very hard to take over for the seemingly-psychic Radar, eventually Klinger settled into his new role, even getting promoted to Sergeant, before the end of the show.
And what an end.
In “Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen”, after the war has ended, as everyone packs up to go home and says their goodbyes, Klinger makes a completely astonishing announcement: he’s staying in Korea, with his new wife, Soon-Lee. After all of that effort, all of the crazy things he’s done, from trying to eat a jeep to trying to get into West Point, when he finally gets to go home, he chooses, instead, to stay.
Over eleven years of show, Klinger went from a Fashionista Determinator set on getting out of the army to a clerk and sergeant, who made the decision to stay in Korea to help his wife find her family. Now that’s what I call growth, especially being one of the only characters who was there from start to finish.
In fact, there’s only one more of those we have left to discuss:
First Lieutenant Father Francis John Patrick Mulcahy (William Christopher).
Father Mulcahy is the 4077th’s chaplain, a dedicated and devout Catholic priest, and the unit’s moral compass. Although a pacifist by nature, Mulcahy was an amatuer boxer, and occasionally demonstrated flashes of righteous fury paired with Good Old Fisticuffs.
“He’s shy, and studious, and yet he has a right hook that could stop a truck.”
The show’s quintessential case of Beware the Nice Ones, and another Deadpan Snarker to round out the cast, Mulcahy tried to make himself useful wherever he could, often struggling with feeling like he barely contributed to the assistance offered by the 4077th.
Mulcahy and Radar often occupied the same position as the Only Sane Man in the camp, but while Radar would typically crumble under pressure to participate in whatever chaos was going on, Mulcahy tended to be aware of it, but not exactly involved in it. He was the Heart, the McCoy, a Determinator who wanted to do the right thing, at all times, focusing on his job and trying to make a difference for the better in the camp, and the war at large.
“When you lose a patient, he’s out of his misery. When I lose a patient, he’s lost his soul.”
Oddly enough, for an irreverent comedy show, Mulchay was portrayed as a good man of the cloth, a genuine person who was deeply faithful and religious, without any ‘parody’ elements or ‘joking’ instances of corruption. Mulcahy practiced what he preached, constantly trying to help those around him, notably the nearby orphanage (with the winnings of the poker games that he always seemed to win). He was no Load, and no ‘stick in the mud’, by any means, being a moral character who tolerated Hawkeye and company’s shenanigans in good humor, but had no qualms about calling the rest of the camp out when it was needed. Overall, although not developing too much throughout the show, Mulcahy was a steady constant with Hidden Depths, a much-needed upstanding character who openly displayed the courage and kindness that other characters often hid with jokes.
And in the end, Mulcahy got to go home too.
Like with the others, Mulcahy left Korea a changed man, visibly shaken by the horrors of war, and physically changed as well. During the finale episode, “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen”, while rescuing prisoners-of-war in the path of an artillery barrage, a shell explodes very close to him. Although Mulcahy survived the incident, he did so at the loss of most of his hearing, something that only B.J. finds out about. Mulcahy returns to the states, intending to work with the deaf, but not before saying goodbye to his 4077th flock:
“I’ll miss hearing confession, but after listening to you people for so long, I think I’ve just about heard it all.”
Mulcahy was the last of the main cast of characters to have begun appearances in season one, and one of only four main characters to last throughout the entire show (Hawkeye, Margaret, and Klinger being the other three), but by no means was he the last character we have to discuss. After all, for all the characters who faded out, new characters faded in to take their place, bringing their own unique color and personality to the positions they now filled.
(Join us next time, where we’ll discuss Sherman Potter, B.J. Hunnicutt, and Charles Emerson Winchester III!)

Sequel To My Story “Tom Hiddleston”
Summery
“ Tom Dear ! She is gone!” His mother says when her son barges thru her front door. Diana Hands a sobbing Charlie to His Stunned father Leading them into the house to a computer sitting @ her kitchen table with a flash drive in it. Just as Tom is about to say something . His Mom hush's them both and starts the video. I start with calming Charlie through the computer. “ Hello Little one . I'm am sorry I have to leave you so. But You are a strong young man . Sometimes even stronger than your father at times. Just know that I love you dear one and will always be your special friend . Now dry those tears and Go see Nanna . So Your dad and I can talk.” I said to Charlie thru the computer. Tom Knew after that our relationship was over maybe had been over for a while.
Chapter 1
Numbness,& NASCAR
I couldn't Stay in London. It hurt too much all I saw was pain. I couldn't go home yet still felt like I failed myself some how so home wouldn't work. So I numbed myself out in Cali. I did what I swore I wouldn't. I went full Party Girl. Between the parties ,clubs, Bars I was wasted most of the time. But I knew that being In Love Like this before then Losing love has it's down side . Tom and I had been it for 3 years. But towards the end I was more His son's nanny than his girlfriend . Most of his friends warned me this was one sided . He never got over Sophia Di Marino ,Charlie's Mom. The split was Mutual. I'm Not mad to be truthful. Annoyed really that I let it go on this long ..
So California I went , to numb the hurt. I don't give a rat's ass what they say about better to have Loved crap ! It still hurt's dammit! So Party Shannon I became. I still wrote my stories without impairment. By day I was the mildly hungover writer coffee in hand . Luca was still Daydreaming so I was still writing. But @ night Let's just say in the great words of Bill & Ted .” Party on Dudes” So I did. Shaking my ass Beer in hand in a club in south beach ! Rockin' out to Pink. I am vaguely aware I am Jamming with a rather large Englishmen Go Figure ! He has a familiar tone I can't place ,frankly all I see is curls ,beard & muscle , Cause I'm too drunk and don't care but he was hot and can grind Like no other. But even though I was no lady ,he was a gentleman And at the end of the night I was in my Hotel room clothes and dignity intact.
Woke the next morning with another hangover that I never use to get when I was younger. They still Suck! UGH! I'm about to start typing when I get a feed from TMZ. “TWH PROPOSES TO SDM!” I switch on my TV and sure enough The rock on her finger is massive and Charlie Looks so Happy . The numbness lifts along with the pain . I can see the sun again so I finally pack my stuff .
But not for England . I head home. I decide I need time with my son . So Arkansas, Hot Springs that is. Although when I get there I find out my son is in Florida . In Daytona Beach. At the Racetrack! My nephew Christian and his wife Kiki took Lucas to a NASCAR race and Somehow Lucas Landed a job as head mechanic for Carlos Contreras's race team. Shocked as I was, I get on a flight to Florida it is a good shocked but WOW. I got a Hotel room and then went to the track . Took me a little convincing to get in . Security walked me to the Pit where I found my baby boy covered in grease. Under a car . When Lucas jumped up and hugged me they left us alone . test moment's in a parent's life is seeing your child seceded at something he loves. This was Lucas's dream !Like writing is for me. It was his turn. Lucas Introduced me to Carlos with sparkles in his eyes . Carlos seemed to Like what My Son does. Even tells me that Because of my Boy, Carlos has won 8 races. How more proud can I get I am in tears. While I was here I went to a few races and Lucas and I raided the theme parks. Then one night Lucas had a grown up moment and told me I had to go back to the U.K.. He said I write my best stuff there and I need to make peace with Myself. How did my Autistic Son get so smart. Then he tells me. He is a big Guy now and He didn't need his Mom to hover.
Chapter 2
Something New
So once I'm back in London. I dust off My flat that Luke made sure I got despite me moving in with Tom. Besides writing, a few friend's gave me the intro to the London night life and I found a outlet to unwind . But I didn't drown myself like in Cali. But I still maintained my Party Mama status. Also I am exercising regularly, to compensate for the Night life . But I found that I have way's now that I am Back to make exercising fun. I do the Gym of course. But I also like rollerskating in Hyde or St. James park, when it's sunny. I found a Ice Skating rink that is 7 day's a week. And there is a indoor pool at the Gym I go to. .
But I realized some things while I was home in the states. I can't ever forget where I came from . So I pay it forward to 4 special organizations for charity and I never write them off my taxes . I went back to church I actually found a Nazarene church in the U.K. Honestly Church is what keeps me semi sober in the clubs on Friday and Saturday. No hangovers in Gods house .So I have been busy. By maintaining the order of my life like I did way before when My soul purpose was being a MOM. God, Family Friends career is a new addition but not that high on the list.
I found a way to keep myself going .My heart has even healed to a point and I am actually making good friends with “ The Hiddleston “ I can't even comprehend The fact that Sophia took Tom's name . I didn't think her agent's would let her do that. Any how I Am officially Aunty Shannon to Charlie and he even still talks to Lucas and they talk cars regularly according to Tom. As for right now though I'm actually doing more than writing I am at The Harold Pinter theater in London as a Producer and assistant to Kenneth Branaugh the director of a play Based on one of my fan fiction stories . It's a Vampire Love story with a family twist. No Not Twilight no blood sucking fairies here. But what has me excited is the cast . Tom is in it along a whole bunch of my fave idol's Including Henry Cavill as the male lead. . OK! I fibbed Kenny doesn't need me the whole time so I am writing when I am not teaching Charlie Who is acting for the first time. Tom is One Proud Papa! I will tell you what. And Charlie Looks like he is having a wonderful time despite playing a Girl demon!
also I do have a little Mystery of my own I am trying to solve. Every morning when I get to work. Yes I'm getting paid for this production. I go to my seat and drink my coffee but I find a different colored long stem lily in the seat . I asked Tom. If Charlie was doing it and I even ask Ken. None said It was them. Both even offered to investigate with me . Saying they have a little experience because they played P.I.'s
I was actually flattered I had an admirer. I just hope I won't regret taking the Lily more seriously. Anyway The play is gearing up for opening night I called Lucas's aide Reed to Se if He will be able to be in London for my Play . Which If it does well it will head to the States and go on Broadway. Now tell me if that ain't totally awesome. I.K.R. We as far as my Book's are concerned Luca start's Middle School. So Social interaction and puberty mixes in with his amazing world which should make for a wild ride for our readers. My honorary nephew is even reading them which make's my heart sing Oh! So I don't leave it out my lily was Aquamarine and silk today not real but it had a pink bow and it sparkled . He-he! Who ever this is knows I like things that sparkle. It makes me giddy.
Opening Night!!!!
My Lucas is here . Looking Just Like he did Prom Night When he took my god daughter to the prom. My boy is So handsome. Lucas has been working out so My lucas is Tall and Jacked thanks to His Buddy Phillip Hull. We get to ride in a Limo It will be Lucas's first time in one. Me! I'm In all Red Long red hair with a touch of gray at the temple and proud of it. A Long Jessica rabbit dress that sparkles in the light. Red flat's I ain't that crazy . It's gonna be a long night and I am in my 50's Heels are not in the program. I had red cloves and a red silk Shaw. I felt amazing and all my boy could say is Wow mama Look Pretty! LOL! I am also excited not only for the play but according to the Little note I got with My Red Rose that was sitting in my seat on the last day of practice. I get to meet my admirer tonight too
So Lucas and I are off Lucas is Like a school boy Looking around and he is also a little nervous. I can tell he Keeps Playing with his collar and tie. I made sure Luke had a pair of ear buds and his fave music in a MP3. And sunglasses to help with Lucas's experience. Plus so he doesn't have to deal with the red carpet stuff Reed is here so Lucas will be with me only for a few pictures then Reed will take him inside while I deal with the popularity this sold out play has caused . New York here we come!!!!!!
Lucas went inside as planned. And Luke is by my side in his place as my escort. Luke felt I shouldn't be alone. Because of the split and Tom's marriage. Even though Tom and I are cool talking about and he is even here with Taylor so I'm cool. I was having lot's of fun taking little interview's and pictures and such. Luke always said I was surprisingly easy going in the lime light and it shows tonight. `Sophia , Ken and I had some fun with the photo people and Kissed Each side of Tom's cheeks while he was trying to pic up Kenneth, then we Bent down to Kiss Ken's cheeks when Tom dropped him on his butt ,our booties where purposely in the air. Let's Just say we made Kenny's night! I was all in good fun Tom told me that Charlie was inside with new Hot wheels car's to show Lucas cause they are NASCAR ones.
Finishing up the pictures and fixing to go inside I was about to give up hope on there being an admirer. When I went to take one last. Picture, Henry Cavill came to Join me in the picture and whispered in my ear to Look down, as he grabbed my waist for the picture . I did. And their was a pink Lily and a white rose in his hand tied in a pink bow. Let's Just say that pic had my mouth hanging open and Henry laughing as we went in to the theater. Let the new dance begin.
Lois Lane never Got Superman this way Ha!
Chapter 3
Don't jump! One moment @ a Time.
As far as the play went it was as major success. I couldn't pay attention at all . I was staring at Henry the whole time In awe of all of this.As far as I was concerned it was like I had never tasted this before . I won't lie, it scares the shit out of me . I was a ball of nerves the whole play . It was Thomas all over again. @ least that was what I thought. Until Henry asked if I would sign a book for is Nephews Daughter who has Down syndrome. I was politely surprised . He then introduced himself to my Son. Which Lucas can recognize any actor who has ever played a Superhero or villain . Henry was one of our faves. He asked if we wanted to grab a bite to eat . Lucas always could eat. Even in his 30's endless Belly! Can you see 3 adult's in fancy dress in Mc. Donald's. I Loved it Because Henry took the liberty to date Lucas first. To me that Mc. Donald's was 5 stars. The Limo dropped 2 very full and sleepy men at My son's Hotel. I was sparkling in happiness. We pulled up in front of my flat but Henry wouldn't let me out yet. I think he wants to talk . So naturally I listened.
fore I could even say anything He Quieted me and held my hand . Baby Blues connected. Then he spoke. “ Shannon I know what you went through with Hiddleston. I grilled him after meeting you . Actually I'm kinda surprised he didn't rat me out. Story for another time. Now that you understand my intent. I want time. Time to know you. Also before you get nervous, will it help If I got permission from Lucas to date you and Charlie Hiddleston second's the permission. I'm normally a prideful Man But Shannon something inside Tell's me I am supposed to started something new with You. I want get to know you Date you proper. If anything let's see where it goes. Even if we don't connect more personally . We can at least catch a grind to a tune and groove like buddies”.
My breath hitch because I just realize that dude I was grinding with in California at that club. The English Dude. That was Henry!!!!! He notices my blush and Shakes his head showing me the bracelet. I smack his shoulder Laughing my Blush off. Then I told him I am willing to try and if all else fails Partying in New York won't get boring . Then he kissed my Palm and let me out . I gave him my # and told him to give me a call when he was ready to try. The Limo waited till I was Inside. But instead of Leaving The door opened and Henry came running up to me . Grabbed my waist, pulled me close and Kissed me. We exploded!!!!

THE DARK CORNER
November 10, 1947
Synopsis ~ A former San Francisco private eye, just in back New York after two years in prison (the victim of a frame-up), finds himself a target for another send-up and murder.
Directed by Fred MacKaye with musical direction by Louis Silvers and sound effects by Charlie Forsyth
Adapted for radio by Sanford Barnett from the screenplay by Jay Dratler and Bernard Schoenfeld based on the book by Leo Rosten.
It was based on the 20th Century Fox motion picture of the same name released on May 8, 1946.
In later years, Lucille Ball was vocal about hating the experience of shooting The Dark Corner. Director Henry Hathaway's bullying reduced Ball to stuttering on set, at which point Hathaway accused her of being inebriated. At the time, Lucille Ball was suing to get out of her contract with MGM. As a result, MGM loaned her to Fox for this picture, which included a significant pay cut.
Lux Radio Theatre (1935-55) was a radio anthology series that adapted Broadway plays during its first two seasons before it began adapting films (”Lux Presents Hollywood”). These hour-long radio programs were performed live before studio audiences in Los Angeles. The series became the most popular dramatic anthology series on radio, broadcast for more than 20 years and continued on television as the Lux Video Theatre through most of the 1950s. The primary sponsor of the show was Unilever through its Lux Soap brand.
CAST
Lucille Ball (Kathleen Stewart) was born on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. She began her screen career in 1933 and was known in Hollywood as ‘Queen of the B’s’ due to her many appearances in ‘B’ movies. “My Favorite Husband” eventually led to the creation of “I Love Lucy,” a television situation comedy in which she co-starred with her real-life husband, Latin bandleader Desi Arnaz. The program was phenomenally successful, allowing the couple to purchase what was once RKO Studios, re-naming it Desilu. When the show ended in 1960 (in an hour-long format known as “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”) so did Lucy and Desi’s marriage. In 1962, hoping to keep Desilu financially solvent, Lucy returned to the sitcom format with “The Lucy Show,” which lasted six seasons. She followed that with a similar sitcom “Here’s Lucy” co-starring with her real-life children, Lucie and Desi Jr., as well as Gale Gordon, who had joined the cast of “The Lucy Show” during season two. Before her death in 1989, Lucy made one more attempt at a sitcom with “Life With Lucy,” also with Gordon.
Mark Stevens (Bradford Galt) reprises his role from the film version of The Dark Corner (1946). He became a contract player for Warners at $100 a week in 1943 but they darkened and straightened his curly ginger-colored hair and covered his freckles. At first he was billed as Stephen Richards, he later changed it to Mark Stevens at the suggestion of Darryl F. Zanuck when he switched to 20th Century-Fox. He died in 1994 at age 77.
Joseph Kearns (Ralph Wickett) appeared on “I Love Lucy” as the psychiatrist in “The Kleptomaniac” (ILL S1;E27) and later played the theatre manager in “Lucy’s Night in Town” (S6;E22). His most famous role was as Mr. Wilson on TV’s “Dennis the Menace” (1959). When he passed away during the show’s final season, Lucy regular Gale Gordon took over for him, playing his brother.
In the film, the character was named Hardy Cathcart and was played by Clifton Webb.
Norma Jean Nilsson (Little Girl at the Boarding House) was a child actress who left Hollywood at age 19 after appearing in 16 films and television shows.
In the film, the character carries a slide whistle, which is not used here. She was played by Colleen Alpaugh.
Wally Maher (Fred Foss aka Stauffer) was born on August 4, 1908 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was known for Mystery Street (1950), The Reformer and the Redhead (1950) and Hollywood Hotel (1937). He was married to Molly Bruno. He died on December 27, 1951.
In the feature film, the role was played by William Bendix, who would go on to fame as the title character in TV’s “The Life of Riley.”
Dan O'Herlihy (Anthony Jardine) was an Irish-born actor nominated for an Oscar in 1954 for Robinson Crusoe. In 1960 he made an appearance on Desilu’s “The Untouchables.” He was in two of the RoboCop movies. He died in 2005 at age 85.
In the feature film, the role was played by German-born actor Kurt Krueger.
Fay Baker (Mari Wickett) was born on January 31, 1917 in New York City as Fanita Baker Schwager. She was known for Notorious (1946), The House on Telegraph Hill (1951) and Deadline - U.S.A. (1952). She died on December 8, 1987.
In the feature film, the role was taken by Cathy Downs, making her first credited screen appearance.
ENSEMBLE
Trude Marson was seen in uncredited roles in four films from 1937 to 1947.
Noreen Gammill started her screen career as the voice of Catty the Elephant in Disney’s Dumbo (1941). She made two background appearances on “The Andy Griffith Show” (1963 and 1964), filmed on the Desilu backlot.
William Johnstone is probably best remembered as Judge Lowell on the long-running daytime drama “As The World Turns”. Prior to that he worked extensively in radio and took over the role of Lamont Cranston on "The Shadow" playing opposite Agnes Moorehead when Orson Welles left the series.
Janet Scott was a regular background voice on “Lux Radio Theatre” with dozens of episodes to her credit from 1937 to 1955.
Lois Corbett was married to Don Wilson of “The Jack Benny Program” and as such did more than a dozen episodes of the television shows with him from 1954 to 1964.
Edward Marr was seen in The Affairs of Annabel with Lucille Ball in 1938. He was also in two Bob Hope TV specials with Hope and Ball in 1966 and 1970.
Stanley Farrar was seen on “I Love Lucy” in “Home Movies” (ILL S3;E20) and “Staten Island Ferry” (ILL S5;E12). He on “The Lucy Show” in “Lucy and Arthur Godfrey” (TLS S3;E23) and “Lucy Meets Danny Kaye” (TLS S3;E15).
Herb Butterfield was born on October 28, 1895 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was known for The Halls of Ivy (1954), The House on Telegraph Hill (1951) and Shield for Murder (1954). On radio, he portrayed the Commissioner on NBC 's "Dangerous Assignment" (1949-53) and Clarence Wellman on "The Halls of Ivy" (1950-52). He died on May 2, 1957
Cliff Clark was seen with Lucille Ball in Her Husband’s Affairs (1947), Miss Grant Takes Richmond (1949), and The Fuller Brush Girl (1950).
OTHERS
William Keighley (Host and Producer) was the director of nearly 40 feature films between 1932 and 1953. His film The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) was selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally significant.
Dorothy Lovett (Commercial Spokeswoman as Libby Collins, Hollywood Reporter) appeared as Meta Bauer on radio’s “The Guiding Light" (1945-47) and as Toni Sherwood in "The Adventures of Rocky Jordan". She did three films with Lucille Ball from 1939 to 1941.
Betty Ann Lynn (Herself, Act Two Intermission Guest) is best known for playing Thelma Lou on “The Andy Griffith Show” (1961 to 1965) which was filmed on the Desilu back lot.
John Milton Kennedy (Announcer) was the announcer of all 35 episodes of “The Loretta Young Show” from 1954 to 1955.
ACT ONE
William Keighley introduces the program, noting that many years earlier, director Fred Kohlmar saw a titian-haired young model who had great possibilities - Lucille Ball. He later had the privilege of presenting her in the film version of The Dark Corner. After a mention of Lux Toilet Soap, the program begins.
The action opens in a New York City office building on a sultry summer afternoon. Police detective Reeves visits the Offices of Bradford Galt, Private Investigator and speaks to his secretary, Kathleen Stewart.
Galt enters and Reeves wonders why Galt didn’t notify him that he moved offices after his prior unpleasantness. Galt asks Kathleen to have dinner with him. After dinner, Galt asks her to go dancing but she’s wise to his advance. As they walk down the street, they realize that they are being followed.
Kathleen takes a cab back to the office, while Galt confronts the pursuer at gunpoint, taking him back to his office for questioning. He says his name is Fred Foss, and that he’s also a private detective. Galt doesn’t believe him and decides to beat the truth out of him.
After some roughing up, Fred discloses that he is being paid to tail Galt by Anthony Jardine. In the tussle, some ink spills on Foss’s white suit. He lets Foss leave. Kathleen was supposed to tail Foss after he left the office, but he tricked her and got away.
Back at his rooming house, Foss uses the hall telephone to call art gallery owner Ralph Wickett, and his ink-stained suit is noticed by a Little Girl neighbor.
At a party for his third wedding anniversary, Wickett hangs up and is greeted by Jardine, a lawyer. Mrs. Lucy Wilding takes Jardine aside pretending to ask legal advice, but it is revealed that he is blackmailing her.
Meanwhile, Galt confides in Kathleen about his past. Jardine is trying to kill Galt because he was a former partner that Galt confronted about his blackmailing female clients. Now Jardine wants to finish the job.
Mari Wickett, Ralph’s wife, is having an affair with Anthony Jardine. She wants to run away with him. At the same time, Galt is headed there to settle the score.
End of Act One
A Lux commercial break takes the form of a story from Libby Collins, Hollywood Reporter. She says she saw Universal’s The Lost Moment starring Robert Cummings and Susan Hayward. Libby says she was on location when they filmed the big fire scene, the biggest fire ever done on a sound stage. She says that she and Susan Hayward washed the soot off their faces with Lux Toilet Soap!
At the time of the broadcast, The Lost Moment was still two weeks from being released. It opened in cinemas on November 27, 1947. The story is set in Italy, so the cast included Edward Ciannelli, who played pizzeria owner Mr. Martinelli in “Visitor from Italy” (ILL S6;E5) and Saverio LoMedico who played the Rome hotel bellboy in “Lucy’s Italian Movie” (ILL S5;E23). The film was not a box office success.
ACT TWO
An hour has past since the end of Act One and Galt is at Jardine’s door. Galt threatens Jardine, who denies tailing him.The two fight while Mari is hiding in the other room. After Galt leaves, she convinces him to run away with her.
At the Gallery, Wickett is visited by Foss. It is clear Wickett is setting up Jardine to take the fall when he has Galt killed. Foss calls Galt to betray Jardine for a price. Galt suggests a one-on-one meeting at his apartment - 904 West 52nd, apartment 307 at 8pm sharp. Wickett will send Jardine to Galt’s apartment at 7:30pm.
In reality, there is no such address. West 52nd Street in New York City ends at the the 600s block. This is similar to the Ricardo and Mertz apartment building. 623 East 68th Street, which, if real, would be in the East River!
Kathleen and Galt are supposed to meet at the movies, but he doesn’t show so he goes to his apartment at 8:30. Galt opens the door and reveals that Jardine is dead. Galt was ambushed with and knocked out with ether. He woke up to find Jardine’s body bludgeoned by the fireplace poker. Galt realizes he was set up.
Later, Galt meets Kathleen at her apartment. He couldn’t find Foss and doesn’t know where to look next.
Wickett reminds Mari that they are due at the Kinsglsey’s that night, but she begs off. He strongly hints that he knows that Mari is stepping out on him and looking to run off.
Galt suddenly realizes that Foss would have to have his white suit cleaned, so he is determined to search all the cleaners for the suit and get his address.
Foss phones Wickett, and the Little Girl is there to overhear his conversation. Foss makes a plan to meet Wickett on the 31st floor of the Grant building.
Galt and Kathleen are about to give up on the search for the suit when a cleaner comes through. They get his address and trace Foss to the rooming house where he lives. His name turns out to be Stauffer, not Foss. The landlady reports that he moved out an hour ago and doesn’t know where he went. But the Little Girl does - and spills the beans for a quarter! Galt and Kathleen head for the Grant Building.
End of Act Two
In the break, Keighley interviews Fox contract player Betty Ann Lynn, who saw filming of Daryl F. Zanuck’s Gentleman’s Agreement starring Gregory Peck and Dorothy McGuire in a “very unusual picture”.
Gentleman’s Agreement premiered on November 11, one day after this broadcast, in both New York City and Chicago. It dealt with anti-Semitism and went on to win three Oscars, including Best Picture. The cast included Lucycom alumni Mike Lally, Shep Houghton, Roy Roberts, and Amzie Strickland in uncredited roles. Betty Ann Lynn says that she also likes to watch the filming of a costume picture like The Foxes of Harrow starring Rex Harrison and Maureen O’Hara, who had 26 costumes made just for her. She notes that O’Hara has a Lux complexion.
The Foxes of Harrow was released September 13, 1947. "Lux Radio Theater" broadcast a sixty minute radio adaptation of this movie on December 6, 1948, with Maureen O'Hara reprising her movie role. The movie was the screen debut of William Schallert, who did several episodes of “The Lucy Show.” O’Hara and Lucille Ball became lifelong friends after their 1940 film Dance, Girl, Dance. Like Gentleman’s Agreement, The Foxes of Harrow also features Roy Roberts, who went on to play bank president Mr. Cheever on “The Lucy Show.”
ACT THREE
Kathleen and Galt rush to the Grant Building, where Mr. Wickett is about to settle accounts on a remote fire escape. Foss / Stauffer brings proof that Jardine is dead but Wickett throws him from the fire escape to his death.
Galt and Kathleen witness the whole incident from the street, as does the cab driver who was waiting for Foss / Stauffer. Thinking fast, Galt steals the cab which still contains Foss’s luggage. Later, we hear that the bags were only full of clothes. Kathleen urges him to keep thinking. Kathleen suddenly remembers that the Little Girl mentioned galleries. They put the pieces together and all evidence leads them to the Wickett Galleries. Galt heads there and questions the clerk. Under the guise of buying a painting, Galt inquires about meeting Mr. Wickett, and the clerk departs. Mari comes in the side door, and Galt tells her that Anthony Jardine has been murdered. She faints. Wickett comes in and when Galt tells him the truth, Ralph locks him in the gallery vault. Mari has revived and overhears Ralph’s threats, holding a gun on him. She shoots her husband dead.
Kathleen has tipped off the police, who only want to charge him with stealing a taxi cab. Kathleen asks if he can be booked at another time because they have a date at the City Hall - to get married.
End of Story
As a curtain call, Keighley chats with Lucille Ball and Mark Stevens. He congratulates Ball on the success of her stage show, Dream Girl, a play she says she will do again in San Francisco. When Keighley asks how Lucille’s busy schedule and that of her husband Desi Arnaz’s leave any time for a personal life, Ball says that they will be playing in San Francisco at the same time.
In June 1947, Lucille Ball performed at New Jersey’s McCarter Theatre in Dream Girl, a play by Elmer Rice. It also played Brooklyn, Detroit and Boston.
The San Francisco production opened just a week after this radio telecast. As Ball states, Desi Arnaz was also in San Francisco at the time, playing in the Rose Room of the Palace Hotel, a fact that was advertised in the Dream Girl program. During the Los Angeles engagement in January 1948, Ball fell ill and had to withdraw. Although she love performing on stage, her radio career and then television success did not allow her to return to the footlights until 1960.
Lucy notes that like many other busy stars, she owes her good complexion to Lux Soap!
Turning to Mark Stevens, Lucille notes that he will play an FBI man in his next project at Fox, with Keighley as director.
Although the film’s title is not mentioned, they are referring to The Street With No Name, which won’t be released until June 1948. Stevens plays Gene Cordell aka George Manley, a covert FBI agent who infiltrates a ruthless gangster mob. "Lux Radio Theater" broadcast a 60-minute radio adaptation of the movie on January 31, 1949 with Mark Stevens reprising his film role.
Keighley notes that next week “Lux Radio Theatre” will present Jane Wyman and Ronald Reagan in Nobody Lives Forever.
The Warner Brothers picture Nobody Lives Forever was released on November 1, 1946. It originally starred John Garfield and Geraldine Fitzgerald in roles taken on radio by Reagan and Wyman, who were husband and wife at the time. Of course, Reagan left Hollywood for a grander stage, first in California as Governor, then as President of the United States. He bestowed Lucille Ball with The Kennedy Center Honor in 1986.
A public service announcement asks housewives to salvage kitchen fats and turn them in at their local butcher for cash!
These were used to make supplies for wartime, such as ammunition and weapons.
Announcer Kennedy notes that Mark Stevens appeared through the courtesy of 20th Century Fox, producers of Forever Amber.
Forever Amber is a 1944 romance novel by Kathleen Winsor set in 17th-century England. It was made into a film in 1947 starring Cornel Wilde, who appeared in “The Star Upstairs” (ILL S4;E25). When “Lucy Writes A Novel” (ILL S3;E24), Ethel jokes about finding Lucy’s hidden manuscript and burning it: “We pulled down the kitchen blind and changed the name of your novel to 'Forever Ember.'”
‘DARK’ TRIVIA
In a September 1985 episode of “Remington Steele,” a character played by Stephen Dillane has the name Bradford Galt! The stories, however, are not otherwise connected.
In both the film and the radio show, Fred Foss gives his phone number as CH-elsea 4-43510. However, according to the Manhattan phone book for 1946, there were only CH-elsea 2 and CH-elsea 3 exchanges. Real phone numbers were rarely used in film or television.
When television began to supplant radio, “The Lux Video Theatre” was introduced. It was seen from 1950 to 1959. Initially, the show was a thirty-minute weekly show featuring live stage plays, but when it moved to NBC in August 1954, the show was extended to sixty minutes. As on radio, the programs were then primarily adaptations of motion pictures. The host would introduce each act, and would conduct an interview with the stars at the end of the play. Of the cast of this radio version of The Dark Corner:
William Keighley directed an episode in 1951.
Mark Stevens did an episode in 1955.
Dan O’Herlihy did five episodes.
Joseph Kearns did three episodes.
The character name Ralph Wickett replaced Hardy Cathcart for the radio show. It is likely that they could no longer get legal clearance to use the name Hardy Cathcart, necessitating the change.
The film featured Ellen Corby as a maid, a role not in the radio drama. Corby went on to be seen as Lucy Ricardo’s high school acting teacher and in several small roles on “The Lucy Show” before her best-loved role of Grandma on “The Waltons.”
The film also features background work by Sam Harris, who did 15 films with Lucille Ball, in addition to multiple episodes of “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy Show” as well as Harold Miller, who did eight films with Lucy and two episodes of “I Love Lucy”.
The film is available on DVD complete with DVD commentary and original trailer.
