the initial conversation concerning this arrangement had gone a little something like this.

we're assigning you a guard, says the quiet council one cool summer morning.

yes you do, says the quiet council, doing the exact thing that he had told them he wasn't going to tolerate them doing if this was going to work. that was happening - well, it was happening a lot. and it's going to be wolverine.

( hope had slapped her hand over his mouth to cut his futile protests short. )

and as it turns out, he had needed a bodyguard. or maybe just someone to kill them kinder than he did. josh's fighting skills left a lot to be desired, and if it weren't for his overclocked healing factor he wouldn't have a head right now. the blade had cut clean throat his neck, and its wielder hadn't known how to react when he'd found that the flesh healed the very moment it was cut.

josh stares at the body at his feet. swelled up beyond recognition - he's not even sure what he'd done to this would-be kidnapper. that's a grim thought, the exact sort that he avoided all remnants of his darker past to avoid thinking about. he nudges the corpse with the toe of his boot, impassive in the face of what looked like death by mutant-induced anaphylaxis.

he's not even sure where they are. one minute they're in arbor magna, the next they're here and he's tamping down all his emotions. the next they're being attacked and well -

well, now they're not.

kneeling down to try to get a better assessment of the corpse. after a moment he lifts his head, squinting at the unfamiliar genetic sequence... no. not unfamiliar. not entirely, at least, he remembers that pixie had...

horror dawns on him as he realizes now what he's certain logan had already known.

they're in otherworld.

they, the five, been teleported to otherworld. the one place none of them can come back whole from.

josh is on his feet in an instant, a hand in his hair. he's - talking, trying to sort out the situation. not even sure what he's saying. maybe some half-hearted idea - the five's connection is offline, and he's not worried about himself he's worried about them. all of them. mortal and failable and not paired with a mutant whose healing factor can withstand a nuclear blast.

threads of panic start to weave around his heart, stopped only by a clench of his first and a sharp turn of his head towards the other man when he speaks.

"yeah, okay, spit it out then! what plan?"

the KING of pretending he's not jealous while DEFINITELY WEARING IT ON HIS SHOULDER lol

it triggers a downward spiral of pride and insecurities

he both simultaneously knows he is a catch and also knows he is a bore/brute

worries and frets about the attention you were giving others

doesn't bring it up till you ask but also doesn't make it subtle that he's in a huff

pretends not to care or notice the attention he believes you were LAVISHING on the other party but it's so obvious it's eating away at him

but just as easily as he is made huffy, he is also soothed

a few kisses, a few words and acts of affection and he is putty in your hands once more

until his jealously is struck up again

he's ego is so fragile and his belief that he deserves your love so shaky that frankly the jealous gambit is a semi-normal part of your relationship

he doesn't necessarily put A Whole Show On about it every time but he does get quietly jealous fairly easily and will need to be reassured some what frequently

all while stubbornly holding to that he is not jealous and does not need to be coo'ed and coddled like a fussy child but also he's waiting for his kisses in he most pouty fashion imaginably while also denying that he's even doing so

such an ancient child this one can be...
