I love the delicate balance of intelligent antagonists falling for schemes.
On one hand they can sniff out any ill intention, any attempt at deception, expect the unexpected and have precaution after precaution for every situation. But then there is always that one flaw, that nick in their armour, the blind spot in their reasoning that the protagonist can and will exploit that unravels every calculation and tosses the carefully build confidence out the window, and they panic so hard, they become reckless.
Sunday is cunning, he knows a lot of stuff, and has a great ambition he is hungry, even desperate, for. He will do anything to achieve it, be it climb the ladder to rule over all, or go against his own sister, who is one of his more apparent weaknesses.
And yet he fell into Aventurine's trap like a curious mouse, blinded by Aven casually tossing Robin's "death" as a bargaining chip, scrapping the nerves raw and chipping at the armour until Sunday snapped. Sure, he probably wanted to bind Aven to "harmony" anyway so he could get to his goal, and getting rid of the IPC ambassador along the way; but it also was a punishment for treating his dead sister like she was nothing of importance to anyone. So he missed the convenient double cornerstone, the betrayal, the performance of it all. He didn't question if the Stonehearts truly were a worse mess than The Family, and he didn't question if a renowned intelligent man was about to fool him with his colleague. He thought he knew it all, and then some more, and when the rug got pulled under his feet, his patience and dedication to stealthily work around the obstacles for his plan pretty much snapped with each new information he got.
Sunday didn't lose his cunning nature or smarts because of this, if anything, he became more than a figurehead of The Family, more than an ideal leader of the Dreamscape; instead he became human. His biggest weakness was his need for the ambition that he clung to, because he never learned, never was allowed to learn, that help from others can bring strength enough to go on your own, and a flightless bird doesn't have to try and fly, some just walk and are okay too.

the way y'all are handling ocean idiots is actually kind of inspiring me, because i have Ideas but i feel pressured to turn it into a whole blown Thing when all i want to do is just have fun with it, because every artist/writer/etc ive seen does it that way.
yall are the first people ive seen who are just trying to Vibe with your blorbos and it makes doing the same thing feel more achievable to me. god bless
PS larus is my favorite. love the little skrunkly bird man. also can i steal yalls powerpoint idea 🥺?
PSS i assume everyone else working on ocean idiots will see this bc yall are mutuals, but in the event that they dont, could you please forward this to them? because i want them to know that theyre indirectly inspiring a random person with their Just-For-Fun-Creation as well >< many thanks
Aw, anon this is incredibly sweet. I sent your message along to the others before I got around to this answer both because I wanted to make sure they saw it, and because I wanted to respond to this in a way that really reflects my gratitude.
It's honestly so tempting to start making ideas "a thing". I didn't really understand that until the last couple of years and let me tell you, there is a lot of pressure to do that. People like projects! They like updates! They love seeing the progression of a story and getting invested in that. I absolutely understand why people leave comments like "this should be a webtoon" or "you guys should make an animated series". In a perfect world, that'd be a dream! The temptation to do that and establish a base is also attractive because it can really form a base that gives numbers and comments, which artists of all stripes thrive on (myself very much included).
But what most people never really see is the downsides of that. From their perspective, a one episode animatic, a chapter or two of fic or few panels of a comic, isn't a lot. It's kinda disappointing, and I get that. For the creator though, there's any number of reasons that things fall apart. Personal differences with friends amplified by the stress of expectations. Creative burnout. Shutting down due to the sheer scope of the undertaking. These are all real, and it sucks to deal with.
For me personally, I know I do want to tackle trying to write more of ocean idiots, maybe even try to nanowrimo this shit (not in an actual month but you get the gist). But that's just me. If it bums me out or I put it to the side, then that's just my personal project to pick up later. If we tried to make it a series, then we'd deal with the stress of trying to keep up a schedule on top of lives (college, jobs, personal lives, etc). It'd take the joy out of these characters we love.
Some of the most fun I've had in the past few years I've been writing and creating has just been fucking around with my friends. Throwing silly au ideas back and forth and exchanging art and fics for no one but ourselves. There's a genuine satisfaction that comes from it.
Not everything has to be a big production. Artists don't make their magnum opus every time. They draw shitposts and write crackfic and make funny edits. It's healing to have something silly, something fun just for you, and to share it if you want. That can connect with people, great! But it can also just be for you. I could go on a whole tangent about social media and the commodification of attention/art but that's not really what we're here for.
I hope that whatever you create, anon, that it makes you happy. That it brings a little joy to your day. That you can have that thing you share with maybe just your closest friends to play with. Lord knows I need to remind myself of that too.

this isn't a request just a question
why don't you do barou 😭💀
its so funny to me😭
Very simple: I hate him, can't stand his character.
When I was watching the anime I'd go do something else when he showed up. I got a friend who says that's my inherent hatred of monarchy, no kings, no masters, ya know.
I just... Listen, I guess different from a lot of people in the fandom I actually liked football, the sport, before watching bllk. So it pisses me off to see a guy who wants to be a solo player in a game of eleven people. A sport used to teach kids team work. I dunno man go play tennis or something.

hello. kindly begging you to share how yoga helps your tmj i’ve been clenching my jaw since birth
lmao yes lifelong jaw issue gang ! so I've been mainly doing stuff for the shoulders, neck, and upper back, which I've found helps in that once those areas are less tense, I actually have room to work my jaw in addition to being able to focus on it more specifically. also all the muscles are all connected etc so lower the tension overall helps prevent me clenching my jaw even more against the pain and it's a whole feedback loop yk?
I've been mostly following this youtuber, yoga with adriene, and during all her routines she's also always reminding you to relax your face and shoulders etc, which helps build the habit which I am.... notoriously bad at lmao
bonus pro tip I got from a regular who also grinds her teeth in her sleep: put a cork or smth like that (I use the little plastic guy they put in kinder eggs lmao) between your teeth for a while before bed to stretch your muscles one last time before your unconscious self fucks up all your hard work of the day.
(and obv take it out before you actually go to sleep so you don't choke to death)
depending on how bad a day it's been, sometimes I can get it between my back teeth on the really bad side, sometimes just between my front teeth, but just having it there while you mindlessly scroll for an accidental hour before actually going to sleep helps
