Hello book!
Part 1
For my Hello Book project I decided to tell the story of my summer (June, July, August) through collected data. I decided to graph and measure all the available data I could find by using old recipes, my Fitbit, and various other methods.
Above are my two colour schemes I was working with to try and capture the feel of summer. I really liked the orange and turquoise (2nd photo) but ultimately decided to go with the pink and blue because I thought I would have more luck with printing these colours and worried that the orange and turquoise would come out looking muddy.
This book idea was inspired by Nicolas Felton and his annual yearly reports on his life. I have always admired his work and really wanted to try and do something of my own in a similar style. I really had fun with this project and hope to add to it in the future. Stay tuned for pictures of the assembled book!

. #inspiracionpattern #diseño #diseñotextil #estampa #estampado #estampados #illustration #ilustracion #botanic #botanica #patterndesign #pattern #patternplay #printandpattern #repeatpattern #prints #fabric #tela #serigrafia #screenprinting #silkscreen #repasadores #teatowels #napkins #servilletas #mantelitos #contenedores #deco #decor

Hello Book: Process
This week, I started working on my Hello book. I decided to move forward with one of the first ideas I had because it interested me the most.
Originally, the idea was to look at archived newspapers from years ago and find stories about people with the same last name as me. Doing this would allow me to find a single commonality or connection in something temporal like the newspaper. Everyday, people read about events and people who are unfamiliar to them, so, finding these people would create this sense of familiarity. The newspaper is printed everyday and then vanishes, before tomorrow’s. I wanted to capture those lost stories of people who are not necessarily related to me, but connected by name.
I started to pull images from Wikicommons of people reading newspapers. I was pretty amazed with what I found. The black and white portraits of people reading were stunning and they had a simple beauty to them that I loved. I made them duotone and instead of leaving them as is, I printed newspaper articles on top of it. This created a cool layering effect that also gave depth to the portrait.
A part of me is fascinated with the portraits on their own. The layering of words on top of people is compelling to me. I am interested in using this method of creation for my final book. I also would like to continue exploring potential themes and ideas that could relate to this layering idea.
