Galactic War Status: Day 7
...back? We're back? We are? Okay, good. good. Finally.
Welcome back, viewers! We took a wrong turn in FTL and ended up very far outside of transmission range with Super Earth, and it took us the better part of the last 48 hours to find our way back. Very sorry about that. We'll try to catch up on the news now.
Day 6 of the Galactic War was a solemn loss on the bot front, as the Helldivers were unable to protect Vernen Wells from the Automaton invasion. Who knows how harshly the war effort will be impacted by the loss of recruits training there? Unfortunately, we were among the many who did not even notice the simultaneous attack of Varylia 5 in the Trigon sector, leading to a near-completely unopposed takeover of the planet by Automaton forces.
Indeed, even High Command seemed to be working against their own best interests, having sent out personal orders to eradicate over two dozen Hunters, leading troops to land on less tactically valuable planets in the East rather than Vernen Wells, where they belonged. On the other hand, SEAF forces in Terminid territory managed to completely cleanse Fenrir III this time, rescuing the day from being a total loss. Let's hope another undiscovered nest doesn't spring up, though.
And now onto the current day. With the factories back at home churning out bullets, there must be an excess, as the personal orders of the day are to score at least one hundred confirmed kills using the A/G-16 Gatling Sentry. While incapable of penetrating heavy armor, this automated bullet hose near-instantaneously tears apart anything short of it.
As for the matter of territory, a swarm of bugs has found its way onto Turing in the Umlaut sector and is spreading across the surface now. SEAF forces are already quelling the infestation as I speak! Back on Vernen Wells, what little ground we have left is slowly receding as SEAF troops struggle to maintain control. Reinforcements cannot come soon enough!
That's all for now. Give 'em Hell, Divers!

Remember, helldiver, you can bring whatever the hell you want and succeed... it's just that some options really aren't the "best" and maybe you should recognize why.
Please.
Like please recognize that bots get mulched by mortars because very few of them are pathing towards us and they like to stand in place shooting (thus getting hit by mortars).
And please recognize that the reason you are blowing yourself and half the team up constantly is because you keep bringing mortars against BUGS, the enemies that are CONSTANTLY moving towards us so all your mortars keep missing until they "mysteriously" stop moving while meleeing a teammate whom is now being blown up "mysteriously" by mortar fire.
Just a thought.

Note
What rank are you in helldivers?
Which guns you use?
I'm rank 12 right now. I'm mostly using the breaker, the explosive assault rifle (I forget what it's called) and for my support weapons I mostly use the anti material rifle, the auto cannon, the stalwart, and lots of sentries

FIREDROP - Quick N' Dirty Drop Pod Warfare for 1-4 Players
Tumblr media
War! What purpose would we have in this life without it?
It’s been five years since the Siphonapterian scourge was first encountered on Apterion VI. In the years since, the superflea plague has spread across more and more of our great Empire. We still do not know how they spread, but we do know wherever our ships went after fighting them last they would appear, as if following us—clearly aiming to discover our homeworld and consume it.
Now more than ever, we need good and honorable Soldiers to take the fight directly to the Siphonapterians and show them there’s nothing a little national pride and a heaping dose of lead (and explosives) can’t solve. Oorah!
Tumblr media
In FIREDROP, you and your friends play as Soldiers dropped from low orbit to fight the hordes of superflea’s infesting the planet. Each mission will be unique, with its own objectives, Siphonapterian nests, and extraction point. Your job is to complete the objective and, if you can, extract with your life intact. To aid you in battle, you will have a number of clone reinforcements available upon your death as well as high impact firepower like sentries, orbital bombardments, and more.
FIREDROP is a 28-page, half-letter, black and white zine hex and dice wargame using a d20, a bunch of d6s, pens, and paper.
This is something fairly new for me, but it’s been a lot of fun to make and really fun to playtest. And yes, it is heavily inspired by Helldivers 2! I started making it while I was waiting to get into the game’s very overloaded servers to play!
You can get it in PRINT over at the MCGW shop!
You can get it DIGITALLY on Itch.io!
You can get it for FREE by subscribing to my monthly newsletter which always has a tabletop freebie, each and every month!

Quick little drawing I made of a Steel Talons version of the Reckoner.
Came up with this with @thereadingaddic7
-Steel Talons exclusive.
-2 garrison slots
-2 healing/repair drones deploy when it hunkers down
-No instant clear
-Heal and replace lost squad mates while inside
-Autocannon mounted on roof (three round burst- fires like the Helldivers 2 Autocannon sentry. Similar damage per second to Guardian Cannon)
-Clears mines
-Stealth detection(????)
Visually, I know this isn’t really the best concept. So!
-Treads rather than wheels
-One long, black, bullet resistant windshield rather than three small ones
-Dozer blade.
-Door on the back side
-GDI/ST symbol on the sides

3 days and 25 hours later I must say Helldivers 2 is indeed quite fun.
The fact you can fight either bots or bugs depending on how you feel is great. Did hit a bit of a wall with the bugs since I kept getting stuck in the infamous endless loop of "Can't kill them all fast enough, oops they've called reinforcements AGAIN", but I'm slowly getting the hang of what I'm doing.
Big thing that is a pain is the damn samples, goddamn does the perma-upgrade stuff take ages to get enough samples for. All this time and I've got like 3, 2 for the Eagle and 1 for the Sentries (They don't seem to be the "best" but they're pretty fun).
Currently stuck on doing Difficulty 5. There seems to be a pretty big spike from 5-6, in 5 most fights have like 1 charger or something, whilst in 6 I frequently see 2 chargers alongside everything else. Combined with the occasional big bug I can barely kill at all, and I don't feel comfortable dealing with that yet. Kinda wish there was less of a spike 'cause I wanna test damage and practice fighting the big bug, but without also dealing with the absurd numbers. Oh well.
Anyways that's all. Thanks for reading, time for bed.

Set the mines, go for the head
Did you make sure they were dead
The cannons start to fire
Hear that machine gun choir
I can feel us going down
Reinforcements, inbound

AITA
Helldivers 2 edition.
On Challenging.
Completed all objectives but got to extract with no reinforcement left, and everyone but me is dead.
16 mins left in the match.
Call in a guy and spam hold position and wait. He immediately runs to try and extract.
Punch him off console and spam no and wait because we have time and i want to extract with everybody.
He tries again and i punch him off the console again and tell them to wait.
He kills me.
Starts extraction is immediately swarmed by 3 bot drops and has no sentries because he placed them immediately in the middle of the landing pad.
Easily 40+ bots in the area in under 20 seconds.
They somehow survived to call in the next available reinforcement, and i kick him.
We ended up losing the match because of mr impatient.

me whenever someone brings a mortar sentry in Helldivers 2
We have elected to remove you from the polycule, as combat data recorded over several engagements indicates you are failing to synergise with your allies’ skillsets and are actively hindering operational efficiency

I found a website that gives you a random loadout to bring to Helldivers.
Tumblr media
I'm just lucky I had the grenade pistol and HE grenades for scout striders. I didn't have anything particularly useful for hulks aside from the sentries. Also this was heavy armor. It had reduced recoil but without a machinegun that was useless and the lack of mobility really sucked because I'm used to running light.
The battle sucked but it was a fun challenge.

TL:DR devs need to hold their players in contempt more.
I'm not the biggest fan of modern games being balanced around player feedback directly. it is the worst for games that players gain an ego over perceived skill in. Where the predominantly male side of a playerbase with low skill and high confidence will cause uproars over objectively good balance changes. Most recently I think looking at helldivers 2's railgun changes is a great example. The railgun was *the* best option to run before its nerf and much of the playerbase used it as a crutch to play higher difficulties. When devs noticed that people trended towards only using 1 support weapon. They changed it to make other options more viable, as well as increasing the difficulty of the higher stages. So they're not a cake walk. The players that used this crutch reacted with so much hostility and whining. Which thankfully the devs didn't listen to and revert the change. Instead buffing some other weapons and modifying spawn rates on the higher difficulties. Because they're good game designers. This is unlike Overwatch who's balancing is a schizophrenic mess of devs trying to appease fans while also trying to apply unique team play concepts with abilities. So you'll have situations where they do a sweep on one shot characters. But not the one shot characters that actually kill anyone in a single shot with no counterplay. No, they nerfed sigma who had to commit a cooldown and followup to secure a kill. While roadhog still lurks around maps popping heads off with just hook. Or worse, widowmaker safe in a corner of the map waiting to hit a single shot. Devs can't nerf certain popular characters because the loudest part of the playerbase cries and screams when they do. It happened when genji was an overtuned monster as well, and he was nerfed to make him have to hit more than 2 or 3 volleys to kill someone. Since obviously a slippery character with multiple escapes and damage mitigation shouldn't have a fast time to kill. I'm still waiting for them to apply the most gentle nerf in the history of live service games to tracer. Who currently has power crept to deal more damage than a sentry turret bastion at mid range with effective 350hp and 3 escape teleports. The people who have an ego around playing her are going to fucking scream for a year about it the same way they did genji. Because god forbid their identity of a god gamer be tested by making their easy character fall in line with the rest of the cast's kits. I need this culture around game balance to break and it has to come from devs not respecting the bad habits players develop in gaming spaces.

Arsenal & Strategy Status
Good news for our warriors on Meridia: High Command has noticed the difficulty in fending Terminids off the drills and is dispatching additional A/M-23 EMS Mortar Sentries to all active Super Destroyers in response. It's a smart choice, as EMS effects can safely prevent most Terminids from even moving. The only remaining struggle will be stopping the highly resilient Bile Titans and extracting alive amidst the Shrieker swarm.
Similarly to Bile Titans, Shriekers are also immune to the impairment wrought by EMS, which means they'll have to be dispatched the old-fashioned way—with plenty of bullets. Some soldiers have begun taking a variety of bullet hoses with them in order to protect their squad against these fliers. A powerful combination we've personally recorded footage of is the simultaneous use of assault rifles, machine guns, and ballistic sentries. This staggering throughput of bullets clears the hordes from the sky with minimal risk of friendly fire.
Additionally, many heroes have taken to learning the Shrieker's attack patterns in order to find the most effective evasive maneuvers. Two popular strategies are to use the surrounding walls and cliffs as cover, limiting the possible directions of aerial assault, and to move unpredictably. Once they've started a divebomb, Shriekers have little steering control, and even groups are easily dodged by constantly switching directions. Finally, diving into prone seems to be effective at avoiding divebombs and giving a trooper just enough time to inject themselves with a stim in order to keep going.
We are still standing by for the Helldiver's next set of personal orders and will return with them soon. Give 'em Hell, Divers!

re: Helldivers 2 i would highly recommend trying a loadout with all Eagle stratagems at some point. having a constant stream of near instant-deploy airstrikes is incredibly fun, especially paired with the armor perk that lets you throw stratagems farther
That does sound fun but muh sentries....
