A Cry for Help: My Family is Drowning in Pain and Despair, Please Help Us🙏

To every compassionate heart, to everyone who understands the meaning of mercy and humanity😭,

I write to you today with a heavy heart, struggling to find the words to describe what we are going through. Our lives have become a constant stream of pain and loss. We were barely surviving before, but today, everything has become even harder and crueler.

My mother, a woman who has never broken despite everything we've endured, sits by the fire every day to bake bread for us. We have no gas, no comforts, just fire and flour. With her tired hands, she feeds my sister’s children, and despite everything, she smiles at them, hiding her pain. That fire is all the warmth we have left.

Then the storm came, and it washed away our humble tent. The shelter that once protected us from the rain and cold is now a pool of water. My mother, my sisters, their children, and I, we all stand in the mud, looking for hope in each other’s eyes, but everything feels lost.

My little son, Hamoud, only 17 months old, doesn't understand why he can’t play anymore. He doesn’t know why everything around him is wet and cold. How can I explain to him that we’ve lost everything? How can I tell him that the world, which should have provided him safety, has abandoned us?

I write to you today, holding onto a small thread of hope, praying that you can be our support. We desperately need your help. Our lives are at risk, and our children are in danger. Your donation could save their lives, could restore our belief that someone still hears our cries. You are the lifeline we are waiting for.

With a heart that can no longer bear more pain, I beg you, please don’t leave us alone in this darkness. We need a new shelter, a roof to protect our children from this harsh cold. Every donation, no matter how small, is a new life for us and our children.

Danny moves to Gotham, but instead of his ghostliness unsettling people and drawing attention to him, it’s the fact that he’s so openly nice to people.

He’s helping people in a way that most people have been too scared to do for a very long time, and people definitely take notice when nothing immediately bad happens, and he keeps up the same as he always has with no foul schemes in sight.

Danny’s handed out food to people that needed it, stepped into disputes before they even got violent, picked up strays off the streets and taken them to places they could live better, stopped various muggings single handedly, and even assisted the paramedics and evac teams during large scale disasters.

While the bats didn’t have a real reason to investigate this force of uncontained kindness, they did strike up conversations when they happened across the same trouble, and were very fond of the teenager that seemed to wander the streets at all hours.

So of course everyone notices when the unconventionally friendly kid disappears, with the evidence linking him to a shadowy branch of the government.

Notes on Hilbert Hall, the mathematics building. It is unknown whether the building was named for the young Unovan hero or the famous mathematician. This 12-story building is situated close to the entrance gates of the university, and is one of the oldest and grittiest looking buildings on campus. 

Things of note:

Hilbert Hall is a popular place for students to come and study. 

The basement is riddled with study spots, although it provides a bit of a grey, dreary environment. There is a small cafe near the stairs where students often grab lunch. The basement is also home to the mathematics student council, as well as various lecture rooms. The lecture rooms are often used for math tutorial sessions.

The 4th floor boasts a large computer lab and library area. Many students congregate here to study, and it certainly brightens up the mood more than the basement does. 

The 11th floor has a small yet vibrant library only accessible to students enrolled in a mathematics program. This was only very recently set up. 

The 9th to 12th floors are home to the mathematics professors' offices. The 10th floor has the admins office, and the assignment drop off box. Make sure to hand those in by 4pm! Or else youre outta luck.

Harmonia University LOVES tunnels. So of course Hilbert Hall is connected to several other buildings by underground tunnels: the chemistry building, the Colress Engineering building, and the main library.

A/N: content warning for a scorpion in the shower (definitely not writing from experience...)

A calm Tuesday evening on base, and Simon is on his way back to his barracks room when he hears a high pitched shriek followed by a loud “HOLY FUCKING SHIT!” coming from the women’s shower block. 

“What the hell…?” Simon wonders as he changes course for the shower block, to investigate what’s so unholy.

As he approaches, Simon sees his girlfriend stumble out of the shower block, wrapped in only a towel, absolutely soaking wet.

“Jesus Christ, Hail Mary, Mercy Me.” She says under her breath as she shudders.

Simon’s eyes widen when he sees her. “Hey, are you okay? Did something hurt you?” He asks, concern evident in his eyes. “You’re dripping wet; do you want to go back inside and get changed?”

“Oh hell nah, not with that devil spawn in there.” She says, shaking her head.

“Devil… spawn?” His eyebrows furrow under the mask in confusion. “What are you talking about?”

“There’s a big ass scorpion in the showers. Ain’t no way in hell I’m going back in there.” She shudders again.

“A scorpion…?” Simon slowly approaches the door to the shower block and takes a look inside. His eyes widen as he takes a step back. “Jesus Christ…”

“See? Big ass devil spawn.” She shakes her head. “I usually have no problem with scorpions, but not when I’m naked, just trying to take a shower. No way.”

“Hell no, that’s awful…” He glances back at her. “How did it even get in there?”

“I don’t know. Poor bastard’s probably freaking out as much as I am though. But it’s either him or me in there, and right now I’m not wearing enough clothes to deal with it…”

He runs a hand down his masked face. “Damn… do you want me to take care of it? I’m still dressed and everything. I got this…” He pauses for a moment. “How big is it though?”

“Big, like the size of your palm maybe. Which means it isn’t all that venomous, but it still doesn’t mean I want to risk getting stung by it.” She says.

“Your palm, or my palm?” He asks, teasingly, lifting an eyebrow under the mask.

“Your palm. Like I said, big ass scorpion.” She responds.

“Alright, I’ll handle it.” He says with a slight smirk on his face.

He takes a deep breath before entering the shower block. He’s a little hesitant, but keeps a keen eye out for the “devil spawn” of a scorpion.

He sees it hiding in the corner. And… she wasn’t exaggerating. It’s a pretty big scorpion, just chilling in the corner.

His eyes widen as he takes in the size of the arachnid. He lets out a swear under his breath as he grabs a towel from off the floor, slowly approaching the scorpion. He then drops the towel on top of it, scooping it up, holding it together tightly to avoid being stung.

Simon walks back outside, goes several steps behind the building, and flings the towel to launch the scorpion far away.

“That… that’ll work.” He says hesitantly as he watches the scorpion fly through the air and land a solid distance away. 

“Well, that was kind of terrifying.” He says to her as he comes back around the building. “You really weren’t kidding about the size.”

“I don’t usually scream for bugs, but….” She trails off, shaking her head.

“Yeah, it would be one thing if you were wearing clothes, but…. Just bare naked and this massive scorpion just… pops up?”

“Devil spawn.” She mutters under her breath. “Thank you for taking care of it, Simon.”

The corner of his mouth twitches up into a half-smile. “No problem. Glad to be of assistance.” 

He gestures to her form clad in the wet towel. “Are you… comfortable enough to go back in and finish showering?” “Yeah, I’m good now.” She says, leaning up on her tiptoes to press a kiss to Simon’s jaw. “I’ll find you later?”

“Of course, you know where to find me.” Simon turns his head slightly so he can press a masked kiss to her forehead. 

He brushes a hand down her cheek before stepping back and making sure she gets back to the shower okay, giving her a gentle wave as he turns to walk away.
