Chapter 12.
Word count: 1938 Warnings: nothing out of the ordinary for this fic A/N: nobody could see this coming, especially not me. this one is small but i'm done with exams (and i entered the masters program i wanted!) so i hope you'll see more of this fic soonish
Vince woke up to the sound of waves crushing against the hull of the ship. They were in the sea â again, after only a day on solid land. The day they came to Port Royal Vince could still see his ship in the fog behind the Shout â but when he and Nikki returned at night, it was already gone as if it never existed. The captives too, and Shout soaked in their fear like it did with hundreds of others, and nothing now reminded of their existence anymore. Nothing except Vince. He was the last remaining link between the pirates and his ship and crew.
Vince wondered why Nikki was so keen on leaving Port Royal so quickly, giving his tired crew only a day on firm land â was he afraid of being tracked? did he have problems with Port Royal authorities? - but by this time Mick noticed he wasnât sleeping anymore.
âMorninâ, blondie,â he promptly handed Vince a pile of plates to fill with porridge, ignoring him wincing at another stupid nickname. âNow that I can see that, at least. How the hell did you manage to persuade Sixx to stop by a bathhouse? He ainât a big fan of grooming.â
âTalked a slaver into a good deal.â Vince shrugged and carefully placed the pile onto the counter. Too many plates had already suffered a poor fate from his clumsy hands.
âYou?â Mick snorted. âYou ainât got a hint of diplomatic talent in you. You speak before you think. You can just tell the slaver liked your looks. Itâs fine.â
âYou think Iâm lying?â Vince flared up. âI may be not the smoothest talker â thatâs true â but Iâm not just a trophy, even if Nikki thinks otherwise. The man paid me no mind until I spoke. He liked my attitude.â
âWell, you certainly have enough of that,â Mick sighed. âToo much for your own good, really. And how the hell did you stain the shirt again â just a day later? Donât even hope to wring another out of me, I have no more spare ones.â
âI wasnât going to,â Vince huffed and turned away, grimacing in disappointment when Mick wasnât looking. Damn it. That was exactly what he wanted to do.
They carried the pot with porridge and the tray with the plates to the deck. Despite it being early morning, the air had already begun to warm up. Mick raised his eyebrows when they saw almost all of the crew already up â that was probably not the norm after a day off â but then Vince spotted a familiar mane of black hair, or, rather, two of them. Both the captain and the first mate were on deck, sitting with the crewmates, talking quietly to each other while Nikki was polishing a sword positioned between his legs. Vince recognized it instantly â simple but deadly, next to his rapier like a knight in full armor next to an agile archer. It didnât mean, of course, that the former always outperformed the latter; it were surroundings and skill that determined the outcome of a fight, after all. A sharp ache pierced through the injured shoulder. Vince winced.
âBreakfast, lads!â Mick announced, plopping the pit with porridge onto the deck. âOh, good morning, captain. Nice to see youâve decided to come down to us mortals.â
Nikki dragged the grindstone down the blade of his sword with an ear-grating sound. Whether that was intentional or not, Vince could imagine Nikki wasnât exactly thrilled with such an audacity. However, for some reason Mick always got away with it unscathed.
âYouâve seen the captainâs cabin on the brig. Can you blame me for indulging myself a bit? Itâs all gone now anyway. Iâm back to my cave.â
Right. With Vinceâs ship sunk in the warm waters of the Atlantic ocean, Sixx had to return to the cabin on the Shout. He didnât appear too enthusiastic about it, so it was probably way less comfortable. Still, it was more than whatever anyone on the ship had, and probably much better than anything the galley had to offer.
âIâm not blaming you, captain,â Mick laughed. âIâd do the same if I was you. Porridge?â
âYes, please.â Nikki sheathed the sword and accepted a plate from Vinceâs hands, not-so-coincidentally brushing his fingers against his hands and winking to him. Vince forced himself to twist the corners of his mouth into a smile. He was just pretending to submit, he reminded himself. Pretending.
Tommy yanked a plate out of Vinceâs hands when his turn came and began gobbling it down. Yesterdayâs night out treated neither him nor Nikki kindly, but the captain seemed somewhat more cheerful, more so than the rest of the crew. Vince imagined he himself didnât look too chipper, but the bathhouse visit did freshen him up quite a bit. Either that, or way more looks coming his way were because of the collar. Vince preferred to think it was the former, though that made him a bit uneasy at the thought.
He was the last to get a plate, as usual, and the porridge on the bottom was always the clumpiest and burnt in places. Vince stared at it dolefully, trying to convince himself to get some of it inside him. Really, one could think that once they stocked up on supplies the food would get better⌠But shitty food only made one nauseous until it was in their stomach. Hunger, though, was relentless once it arose, and Vince could never predict when the next fuck-up that would leave him without dinner was going to happen.
Vince was just about to settle down on the deck with his plate when Nikki caught his gaze and beckoned him with a sly smile. Vince reluctantly approached him. The bench was too short to fit him. Was Nikki again going to force him onto his lap? How would he eat then?
âSit here,â Nikki pointed at the deck before his feet. Vince suddenly realized that maybe he wasnât that hungry â Nikkiâs smug face just begged for his porridge to be smudged all over it.
âIâve got to be by the pot in case anyone wants a second,â he came up with an excuse hastily. It didnât convince Nikki one bit, though.
âMickâs there for a reason. And if he gets overwhelmed, itâs not a long way from here.â
âIt will still be better if I-â
âSit. Here.â Nikki interrupted him, narrowing his eyes. âI didnât ask for a slaveâs opinion.â
Vince inhaled sharply, the collar tightening around his neck. Oh God, how good would porridge look on this face. But a few seconds of satisfaction were not worth the consequences. They would throw his plans out the window â in his case, overboard â and they were the only thing holding him together. It wasnât worth it. It wasnât. It wasnât. It wasnâtâŚ
âFine,â he said coarsely, walked to Nikki and slowly lowered himself onto the deck at his feet. Was that a suppression tactics or was he specifically getting off on Vinceâs humiliation? Or maybe both?
Vince stared down his plate - all his appetite was gone, but he didnât want to know how many sneers he would get this time. At least Nikki didnât grope him in public again. He didnât have to now, though â the collar conveyed the message just as well.
When Nikkiâs palm patted his shoulder, Vince flinched.
âSee?â Nikki said quietly. âNot that hard. No need to cause a fuss every time.â
âYou have no idea,â Vince whispered back.
âOf what?â
âHow close I was to smearing that porridge all over your face.â
Nikki raised an eyebrow. âOh, I know. Youâre real bad at controlling your facial expressions.â His fingers caressed Vinceâs cheek, tugged gently at the collar. âGood thing you didnât do it, though. You wouldnât like whatâd come next. Eat your porridge now, breakfast is almost over.â
âIâll pass. Still toying with that idea.â
Nikki snickered. âIf you wish. I ainât gonna force-feed you. Not porridge, at least.â
One look at Nikkiâs sleazy grin made it clear what he would force-feed him. Vince grimaced, turned away and put his plate aside. He had already lost all his appetite, but now he was outright nauseous.
âYou sure, man? Itâs a long day,â Tommy asked him, finishing off a plate. He was devouring his portion the way one would a meat pie. Vince recalled his dumpster stories. Well, he probably saw little difference between those then.
âYes,â Vince said listlessly. âNot hungry.â
âAlright then. Can I take your serving?â Tommy finished off his portion by licking the plate clean. His appetite really didnât match his slender build.Â
âYes.â
âGreat, thanks!â Tommy scooped up his plate from the deck and finished it in the same hungry fashion. Vince watched him upend the plate above his head and deftly catch all the drops with his tongue. His shirt hiked up to his chest, exposing the outlines of ribs under the skin â the guy was all muscle and bone. Where did it all even go?
âDonât overeat, T-bone,â Nikki said. âYou donât want to be all sluggish come training.â
âItâll go through fast,â Tommy waved his hand. âAnd Iâm gonna need energy.â
âWhat training?â Vince couldnât help but ask. The two pirates simultaneously turned their heads towards him. The synchronicity of their movements rubbed Vince the wrong way now more than ever. Only people who have spent years in each otherâs company behave like that. Siblings, for example.
âNone that concerns you, doll,â Nikki cut him down, no cheek in his voice anymore. âThe only training you need you will get in my cabin. God knows you need it.â
âCâmon, Sixx. Donât debase him like that. You like his greenness and you know it.â Tommy prodded him with an elbow.
âMaybe, for now,â Nikki slapped his arm away. âBut it gets old quickly. He has to be ready for that. Hey, where do you think youâre going, brat?â
Vince couldnât hold back a yelp as he was caught, dragged back and forced onto the floor again. This time Nikkiâs hand stayed on his shoulder, fingers digging into his skin, making him wince. Thankfully, it also killed the conversation.
He didnât have to suffer much longer â Mick once again came to his rescue, sending him to the galley with a pile of plates. They swayed ominously, but Vince didnât have to stop and balance them this time. Nikki could say all he wanted, but at least Mickâs training was surely paying off.
He diligently washed the dishes as he was told, but the clean pile grew and Mick was nowhere in sight, which meant no further instructions. When Vince was done, he still hadnât shown up, and Vince used the opportunity to plop down onto his blanket and relax. Mickâs bunk, so soft, so clean, beckoned, but Vince knew he wouldnât have enough time to dart back to his place without arousing suspicion. And were Mick to catch him there, he would surely get walloped.
Vince didnât sleep well last night, awoken regularly with a racing heart and a sweaty brow, so he jumped at the rare chance of catching a break during the day and curled up in his place, closing his eyes with a pleased sigh. He didnât get to enjoy his rest, though: soon strange stomping and clatter from above pulled him out of his doze, and even covering his ears didnât help: he was still feeling the vibrations. That was probably the training Nikki didnât want him to know about. Too bad for him: Vince had nothing else to do anyway.

182 Days of TPN - Day 170
Chapter 170: "Together"
Years ago I had wondered if Isabella's conversation with Peter happened before or after she rallied up the rest of the moms & sisters, but I suppose this flashback within a flashback kinda confirms she spoke to the ladies after she received news that Emma & the other children were on their way to GF. Half of me still believes that it was a bit risky waiting so long to inform everyone else of her plan just in case she couldn't gather up all the support she needed in time, but the other half of me also understands that there always could've been the possibility of the ladies turning on her or not being able to keep the secret well enough around Peter. Of course we know now from ch181.7 that Isabella had already recruited Matilda, Jessica, Sienna & Scarlet to assist her about a month after she was promoted to Grandma, but having everyone contribute to the betrayal is certainly more ideal.
Ya really can't blame the other ladies for being so hesitant. The idea of rebelling against the farm and the life you've been forced to live definitely seems like a sure fire way to get killed, however, as Isabella explains, that you can suffer the same fate just by doing your job, just as Sarah did.
I'm always up to receive flashbacks on characters, but this is one of those rare occasions that I would have to pass. Seeing how hard both Krone & Isabella struggled to survive the farm system are more than enough for me. These quick glimpses of everyone else's training hurt my little heart already. Aaahh, all the women in this series are so strong. Even though death scares the hell outta me, I doubt I'd live through this nightmare of fighting every day and living in fear.
When the training is so efficient that they learn how to lie perfectly to the children in order to keep up the orphanage but also how to lie to themselves (unknowingly) about how they could obtain a better life.
Kinda funny to me how I'll skip pages during some chapters and other times I'll go all in about almost every little thing. Well, now is one of those times I'm gonna ramble a lot, simply because Isabella is involved (as if that wasn't obvious enough whenever she showed up in the past). I absolutely love seeing how angry she is about this cruel world. This hatred of hers has surfaced the day she climbed the wall and saw the cliff surrounded the plantation with her own eyes after Leslie was shipped out and it has been simmering deep inside ever since, so now after waiting patiently for about twenty years, watching so many children be sacrificed to demons, she finally has the power and opportunity to act upon those strong feelings and contribute to changing the world for the better and I'm just so immensely happy that she's able to get this chance. She deserves to get some sort of revenge 110%.
Learning that the fear we saw her show towards Peter during this deal in ch165 was only an act is brilliant. Now, I'm sure Isabella did have moments where she did feel scared due to the uncertainty of what her new promotion would mean for her, but the fact those feelings practically vanished from her heart in such a short amount of time is amazing. This woman was "free" for two days from wearing any sort of mask and jumped right back into that chess-master mindset flawlessly. The list is endless but chalk that up as yet another reason why I love her.
I wouldn't let anyone rule over me either, but um.. I'd make an exception if it was you, ma'am.
I may be giving her too much credit, but I hope she's saying that regardless of what the other ladies decide, that Isabella is gonna provide her children some assistance no matter who stands in her way. If the betrayal really only included her and the four other women already on her side, I'm sure they could've pulled it off. And yes, I appreciate that she sorta mimicked Emma's words to Ray in ch33 despite never hearing the conversation for herself.
Ohh, how this woman must be feeling after hearing her precious children still call her their mom after everything she put them through.. has to so bittersweet, mixed with relief and regret.
The combination of his exaggerated expression and panic next to her calm and complacent reply absolutely sends me.
What I wouldn't give for her to have a moment with her children like that. I mean, it kinda happens.. the hugs, the apologies and everything else, but it should happen more than twice. And definitely without the death.
Hearing her call Peter a boy never fails to crack me up. And I know she refers to Lambda when she mentions the methods he's okay with, but the way her mind also brings up Nat's broken finger is lowkey hilarious, as if she didn't break Emma's leg before. While the original reason was to prevent Emma from escaping, I can see how Isabella might think her actions was another way to spare the girl from getting shipped early (as extreme & messed up as that idea is). Peter just broke Nat's fingers to be a dick. Nothing more, nothing less. am i showing too much favoritism towards this woman? probably. do i care? nope.
As quick as a callback it is, I love how Isabella mentioned last chapter how Emma & the others destroyed everything and how she expresses the same wish now. Also, her inner thoughts make me wanna sob. All Isabella wants is her help her children, she could care less what they think of her. And for a moment you might believe that they won't forgive her due to the look upon Emma's face here.
As expected from our lovable protagonist though, she accepts Isabella's help once she remembers that she and all the other women were victims of the same harsh system they were forced to live under.
I can fathom how this pathetic man manages to secure a gun and escape from being surrounded without getting hit with a single bullet but whatever. At least no one else gets injured by him as he runs away like a complete coward.
Favorite panel/moment:
I've no doubt said this many times, but this is by far the best mother-daughter moment I've ever experienced in my life.
Even though we did reach the raid in the anime, we were denied this panel mostly becuase the second season didn't allow the children to carry guns, which is a terrible shame.. if anything, we were treated to a small smile from Isabella after Emma's "thank you, mom" though. Of course I'd very much prefer the above panel to be animated, but I'll take what I can get. I'm very easy to please when it comes to this woman.

I connected accidently to an enemy mechâs comms. They were asking their commander if they should open fire or hold it until I got closer. When command didnât answer he kept asking if Command could read him. Finally I just said... âIâm not command.â
He was just as shocked as I was. And for a while no one said anything. We were facing each other on the battlefield. No one expected us to talk. Of all things. But the error didnât resolve itself.Â
The enemy mech just leveled its gun at me. I was like, âWhy are you shooting?â
Because you hacked me. I have to stop the hack.â
Mission control cut the connection then. I guess you could say I missed an opportunity for a Pow-Wow. But what were we supposed to say? I guess it just goes to show how battle hardened we are. We donât even know how to talk any more.
All systems green on the DRGN 12, signing off.

Just when I thought Iâve seen it all. Those people had nothing to do with the war weâre fighting on Earth. Theyâre colonies. They have next to no say when it comes to any Earth policy. But the Southern Cross attacked them anyway. And now there are so many refugees. So much suffering. I saved as many as I could with the DRGN12. I escorted shuttles to and from the evacuation ships. But eventually the orbit was no longer stable. The colony was spinning out of control. Most of it burned up in the atmosphere. Some of it ended up in the sea, the rest was blasted into smaller chunks by the E2UA missiles. I just hope everyone died on the colony before all that happened. I canât imagine the hell it must have been to be on an out of control colony, even for a day.
I hate the Southern Cross.
All systems green on the DRGN 12, Southern Cross bastards can go to hell.
8/24/2023 22:00 Designation: Amb57.89 Unit: DRGN12
Well that was interesting.Â
I guess my mech suit suffered damage after all. I was in the UA blowing up some chunks of space debris from the colony attack when my mech just shut down. Fortunately, I could still exit the cockpit. Bad news was I was surrounded by debris the size of office buildings flying by at lightning speeds. Any moment... I would be plastered like a bug on a windshield. Despite everything that has happened, I have never felt so helpless. It was kinda crazy to think about.
All systems green on the DRGN 12, signing off.
9/15/2023 22:00 Designation: Amb57.89 Unit: DRGN12
They want me to go in for psych eval. They say Iâm being âtoo antisocialâ. Yeah well, my friend got blown to hell and I had to watch an entire space city crash into earth and then I almost get Froggered by debris while waiting for rescue outside of a dead mech that might explode. Donât you think some quiet time is warranted? Not to mention the fact that I have reams of paper to go through for a whole mission and huge reports to write even though half of it ends up redacted. I canât stand these people.
DRGN12 systems freakinâ green. Signing off.
9/30/2023 22:00 Designation: Amb57.89 Unit: DRGN12
I was trying to think of what I should have said to that pilot I talked to about a month ago. If I had a chance, I would like to ask him if he really though attacking a space colony was okay. What did he think it was going to accomplish? Does he still think heâs the good guys? What good guys would attack a colony that wasnât even involved? Is the biggest body count just a victory? I guess I canât get that out of my head. Iâd love to ask them that though. Iâll probably get some stupid justification though.
DRGN12 system green, Amber Riley Signing off.
10/2/2023 22:00 Designation: Amb57.89 Unit: DRGN12
Iâm on sentry duty. I guess thought thought my psych eval wasnât good enough. Or maybe theyâre reading this and they think Iâm unstable. Last night, it was raining really hard and I got to thinking how my life might have been if none of this had happened. I wonder if I would have ever gotten into the college I wanted. Or just failed. I wondered if Dadâs still fighting to get me out of this place. Or if heâs proud of me, like Brianâs dog. I get letters telling me to stay alive and hang in there. Mom writes me every day. I try to write back, but at this point... they should just have another kid and start over.
DRGN12 system green, Amber Riley Signing off.

I love her, damn it!
______________________________________
Part 2 (Part 1 here)
Ship: Sokka x f!firebender!reader
Warnings: swearing, injuries, captive abuse, a bit of angst, but it ends well
Genre: angst-to-comfort
Fic type: Scenario
A/n: This is part 2 of the "I love her, damn it!" miniseries. Sorry that it took so long and I apologize to those who have sent in their requests. I've seen them and am already working on them. You can expect them to be completed in about a week.
Other than that, I hope you enjoy and have a nice day!
______________________________
(Y/n) was sure she had lost the perception of time at this point. All the blood loss, torture, and generally not being able to see the sun in the freezing metal cell had made her head fuzzy and not being able to recall what day or time it was.
She didn't know if it was hours, days, maybe weeks, or even months since she had been captured, but it didn't really matter at this point. (Y/n)'s main goal was to survive and possibly get out of the base to safety.
Just then, (Y/n) heard footsteps outside of her cell. Rhythmic, meaning it was probably another Fire Nation soldier that had come to either 'beat the traitor' or deliver scraps of food. The firebender heard the footsteps stop near the door and the rhythmic tapping of the keypad of the side of the cell door.
When the captive heard the high-pitched beep of the keyboard, signaling that the correct combination had been entered, (Y/n) threw her head back and groaned, her bound hand tugging at the metal chains around her wrists immobilizing her.
The metal doors to her cell slid open and a cloud of mist rose from the doorway. The girl sighed and through her nose released a mist cloud similar to the doorway and swung her head back in front of her to see who had decided to come to visit her. (Y/n)'s eyes widened when she had set her gaze on the visitor, before quickly relaxing and raising her brows.
"Princess Azula," (Y/n) addressed her, "To what do I owe the pleasure that you personally come to visit a poor firebender like myself in these circumstances?"
"You and I know very well that you aren't just another poor firebender," the princess smirked in reply, crossing her arms behind her back, "You are far more important than those disposable soldiers in this base."
"I suppose so, your Highness," the captive sighed and furrowed her eyebrows when she felt her energy depleting, "However, I would be far too hopeful to think that you've just come here to talk to your old friend. What do you want?"
"Always to the point, as usual," Azula replied as her smirk widened and she turned to slowly walk around the cold cell, "But you are right. You would be far too hopeful to think I've just come to see you."
"And as to what I want," the princess continued "I want to give you a choice."
(Y/n) raised a brow in question as the corners of her mouth started to tug downwards into a grimace at Azula's speech.
"Swear absolute loyalty to me and join the Fire Nation again as a general," she proposed, "And you will walk out of this cell a free woman. I'll arrange it so that no trace of this incident ever exists, and everyone will forget that you were a traitor to your kind."
"And if I refuse?" (Y/n) asked, her eyes locking onto her former friend's own amber ones.
"You'll stay here before you will be brought out by the firing squad to your execution," Azula replied.
"So you're making me choose between two evils. Execution or you." the captive smirked tiredly as her head swayed from side to side, barely managing to keep it up.
"Precisely," the princess turned on her heel to face the captive.
(Y/n) bowed her head, making some of her stray hairs falling in front of her face as she slowly started to laugh. The girl's laughter became louder with each second and she once again tossed her head back before breathing in deeply to calm herself, a huge grin settling on her face.
"Do you really have to ask for my decision? You already know what it will be, Azula," (Y/n) leaned forward as much as her chain bound hands would let her so that she was face to face with the Fire Nation princess before whispering, "My death will at least be without much suffering."
"So execution it is," Azula growled as her grin disappeared from her face and a frown came instead. The princess looked at the triumphant grin on the captive's face before turning away and swiftly walking to the doors of the cell and walking past the guards at the entrance.
"Have the firing squad ready for her execution," Azula commanded one of the guards.
"Yes, your Highness!" the guard replied and closed the cell doors.
(Y/n) sighed as her grin started to fade away. She knew that she couldn't escape this, but in no way did the girl regret her decision. The former general was aware that Azula would exploit her and break her if she had agreed.
And then her thoughts shifted to her friends. Aang, Katara, Toph, Zuko and...Sokka.....
The memory of the water tribe boy's brilliantly blue eyes flashed in her mind, the hand he had reached out to try to help her into the escaping jeep despite their disdain for one another.
"I'll never see him again," (Y/n) sighed out as her hopes shattered, "they won't be able to come for me."
Just as her thoughts started to become deeper into the pit of memories, the firebender's ears picked up the faint sound of footsteps running and shouting outside of her cell.
"Have I really become insane now?" (Y/n) pondered as she felt faint and black spots started to appear in her vision from how tired she felt, "Am I hearing things now?"
The girl's consciousness started to flicker as she supposedly heard footsteps coming closer down the corridor. And for a brief second, (Y/n) thought she could hear Sokka shouting her name and the sliding metal door being busted open with force.
And there they were. Those same sea blue eyes she had gazed into before she had been shot at. And now those blue eyes were the last thing the firebender saw before she had blacked out.
-------------------------------------------------
Sokka felt his heart stop the moment he saw (Y/n) passing out just as they had made it inside her cell. His widened eyes then zeroed on the countless bruises on the girl's body, all of them varying in different sizes, and Sokka felt his blood starting to boil.
"Toph, release her from the chains!" Zuko commanded the blind girl, making the water tribe boy snap out of his thoughts.
"On it!" the girl replied and used her metal bending to crumple the chains around the captive's wrists.
Just as (Y/n) started to fall to the floor, Sokka leaped forward and caught the passed out girl in his arms. Immediately the fingers of his right hand flew up to the left side of the girl's neck, right above an artery, and upon finding the steady beating of her heart sighed in relief.
"Sokka!" Zuko called out to his friend, "We have to go! Now!"
The Fire Nation prince had come closer to the pair and was about to grab (Y/n) out of Sokka's arms to carry, but the younger boy clutched her body closer to his.
"We don't have time for this!" the firebender insisted and reached out for the girl, "Give her to me so that we can get out!"
"No!" Sokka replied stubbornly, "I can handle this myself."
"For fuck's sake, why are you being stubborn about this!" Zuko questioned angrily, "If you give her to me, I can carry her out faster-"
"Because I love her, damn it!" Sokka yelled back at the firebender and hoisted (Y/n)'s limp body up in his arms.
Zuko's eyes widened at his friend's outburst before his brows furrowed in concentration and after a pause spoke.
"Alright," Zuko said calmly, "Get her to the Rendez-vous point. I'll cover for you. Toph, go in front of them and scour out any enemies in front of us!"
"I can feel none so far," the blind girl replied as she started running in front of the group, Sokka following shortly behind with (Y/n) in his arms.
"Hold on, (Y/n)," Sokka thought to himself as the group made it out of the building.
-----------------------------
A soft surface under her. That's the first thing (Y/n) noticed when she started to regain consciousness. The second thing the girl felt was a calloused hand clutching her own. A finger slowly and gently ghosted over the hand and she felt the hand tighten.
(Y/n) turned her head to the side where the hand was coming from and started to slowly blink her eyes open, squinting a bit when the hospital room's bright light burned her eyes. But nonetheless, the firebender noticed the dark skin of the hand holding her's and looked up.
The girl felt warmth spread through her chest when she realized that Sokka had come to visit her and fell asleep. (Y/n) slowly wiggled her hand out of his grasp and gently traced his face with the back of her hand, making the boy groan in his sleep and the hand clutching her's previously grabbing her wrist.
"Mmmm, what?" the water tribe boy blinked as he took in his surroundings and with sleep clouded eyes looked at (Y/n), still clutching her wrist gently.
After a brief pause, his eyes widened and a large grin appeared on his face when he had regained enough consciousness.
"You're awake!" Sokka exclaimed happily and dived in the bed to hug the girl, "Holy shit, you're awake!"
"Slow down, water boy!" (Y/n) wheezed out as she slightly pushed at Sokka's chest, "You're suffocating me!"
"Sorry!" the boy quickly apologized before looking the firebender over to see if he had hurt her accidentally.
"It's fine, I'm fine," the girl laughed and Sokka's cheeks gained a reddish tint to them.
After a brief pause, the boy shook his head, the warmth from his face disappearing before his brows furrowed and he stared angrily at the girl in front of him.
"Why the hell would you think it was a good idea to try to stop the Fire Nation soldiers on your own!" Sokka scolded the firebender, "It was absolutely reckless and stupid, and-"
"Well, what else was I supposed to do?" (Y/n) angrily replied, "Allow them to capture us all? "
"You were supposed to stay safe!" the water tribe boy pressed.
"Since when was saving the world from the Fire Nation ever safe?" the firebender questioned.
"What I meant was that you were supposed to not get hurt," Sokka explained himself, "You placed yourself in unnecessary danger and you got hurt because of it."
"Since when do you care that I get hurt?" (Y/n) tsked.
"Since I found out that I love you," the words slipped out of Sokka's mouth and the girl's eyes widened in shock.
"You.. love me?" She cautiously questioned.
"Yeah, I do," he sighed, bowing his head and waiting for rejection, "Look I know you don't feel the same way, but I wanted you to know so th-"
Sokka never managed to complete his sentence as (Y/n)'s lips locked on to her former rival's. The boy tensed before slowly relaxing and leaning into the kiss. The girl's lips started to pull back, but the water tribe boy dived back in for another kiss.
No way was he gonna let her go now.

You answered everything perfectly with regards to your last post. Do you think Steve and Nancy are actually going to come back together? Or what do you think is going to happen?
*deep sigh* I know what I want to happen and I have tried to think rationally enough to predict what I think will actually happen but this all hinges on the underlying assumption that the ST4 writers are also approaching the story with the characters' best intentions in mind with a strong consideration of previous character development and events from prior seasons. It's what they should do but I don't trust them. at all. (Forgetting Will's birthday was a huge blow to my trust.)
So if the writers are trying to write Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan consistently, I don't think Steve and Nancy are going to get back together. I love Jancy but I also love Steve and I can't see this being a good move for anyone involved. I can't make sense of the paralleled Nancy/Jonathan scene in episode 1 if that is the case. I understand the lying part (We're fine! Everything's great! *narrator: It was not and they were not*) but the honest exploration of why they love each other (also first time they've dropped the "L" word for fans) doesn't give a lot of room for genuine Steve/Nancy rekindling (especially with how superficial the moments are). I'm pretty sure the ship teasing moments in episode 6/7 were to pack an emotional gut punch for when Nancy gets Vecna'd. I really don't think we are going to see anymore flirty Nancy and Steve moments after she is released from her trance. I really hope they get a chance to talk honestly about everything. Steve and Nancy AND Nancy and Jonathan. Hell even Jonathan and Steve (but that is merely a dream not something I think they'll do).
BUT if the writers are solely thinking in terms of fan service and keeping hype alive between ST4/ST5 I could see them wanting to keep building the St*ncy moments, have Jancy reunite but leave things open ended this season so social media teams can milk fan engagement over the break. (which... bleh.) Even though I hate it, I think the probability of either happening is 50/50. My trust in the writers is that low. And if the second option happens, all bets are off in ST5.
Warning: Potential Spoilers for Volume 2
I don't think in either case St*ncy will rekindle in ST4. We know from some of the leaks that apparently Jancy will reconnect, there's a forehead kiss, and that they are both at Hopper's cabin in the end. This doesn't exactly scream "Jancy is fine and we no longer have to worry about St*ncy" but I think it is a good sign. However, I am very very hesitant to trust leaks even from trusted sources that have been right thus far. I have been burned before. I have had a reliable, never-been-wrong source for leaks in other fandoms before intentionally put out a fake leak (that the show runners wanted to get out into the general public to make the finale plot twist *that* much more devastating) so I always take leaks with a grain of salt ESPECIALLY surrounding finales.
As for what I want to happen by the end of this season...? I want Will to have moment with Jonathan where he basically tells him to leave (lovingly of course. People have wanted this from Joyce but I think it will be much more meaningful and make a stronger case if Will is the one to tell him to put himself first for once.) I want Nancy to process her guilt, realize that she misses Jonathan and still wants to be with him (would LOVE for some of their memories to be what pulls her out of her trance). I want Steve and Nancy to realize it's over between them and that it can never work out between them. I would love for Steve to realize that he needs more from 'the one.' Maybe even realize he may need to leave Hawkins or take a different career path. Idk, this guy is also suffering from a lack of character development this season. I need Jonathan and Nancy to talk honestly about their future and their feelings. I need this more than I need the air I breathe but I am not getting my hopes up.
#stranger things 4 spoilers#jancy#anti stancy#jonathan byers#nancy wheeler#platonic stancy#i am again so so so so tired#thanks Anon!! I hope this is what you were interested in#I kinda started ranting and then went with it

MONKEY D LUFFY
You both were making jokes and laughing while you were looking around the Island for the last time before you all hit the waves.
Luffy stopped at every single food shop and took food from there, while you paid for the food he got. Well you werenât complaining. You loved to take care of him because he was your lovely innocent captain and also your lover.
Suddenly everyone stopped whatever they were doing because of a loud Gunshot. Luffy and you looked in the direction of the gunshot. It seemed that a celestial dragon came to this place. There was a big person who was walking on all fours and had huge chains around his neck and hands. He was⌠a slave. Like once you were.
Seeing this you started sweating and your heart beat increased. You knew how terrible that situation is. You slowly looked up and saw a man with snot nose and black curly hair.
Your eyes widened in surprise as you saw the celestial dragon. He⌠he was the one who made you tremble with fear. He was the one who made you think Death wouldâve been peaceful than to live under his foot.
You remembered how he had kicked you repeatedly and how he had thrown his hot coffee on your bare skin just because he wanted to know how hot the coffee was.
Your eyes started to water and you hid behind Luffy, clutching the back of his shirt. He hugged you back with one of his hand but didnât look at you.
He noticed how you shivered with fear. He heard you sob but didnât ask what had happened. He knew about how you were once a slave. Only he knew.
Meanwhile the rest of the straw hats came to the place from where ever they were because they heard the gun shot and were worried if something had happened to you two.
Nami and Chopper asked why you were crying. Then the celestial dragon started to slowly move in the direction of where you all were still on top of his slave. He was not yet close to where you were at but the sole presence of that jerk was enough to break your emotions.
Luffy soothingly rubbed on your back and now turned to face you. You looked at him with tears in your eyes and whispered, âThatâs himâ, so softly only for your boyfriend to hear. He gently wiped your tears and placed his straw hat on your head. You then saw how Luffy walked ahead with Sanji and Zoro behind him. You stopped crying as you looked at your captain with hope in your eyes.
He went to the Celestial Dragon and beat marines surrounding the celestial dragon and punched the Celestial Dragonâs face and made that jerk to taste the dirt. You are sure he broke his ribs. You stopped trembling and smiled as Luffy turned around and gave you his classic smile. Luffy doesnât fail to make you smile.
Luffy stretched his arms and flew towards you with Zoro and Sanji dangling in his other hand. You knew what was happening and you jumped as you wrapped your arms around his neck. You held him tight as he proceeded to fly towards Sunny with the rest of the crew still dangling on his arms.
He was already your prince but now he was your whole world, your reason to smile, your Pirate King and⌠your One Piece.
RORONOA ZORO
Zoro got lost in the middle of your date and you were trying to find him. You suggested to go on a date on the last day and he got lost.
You were still looking for him as you heard an announcement. Your ears perked up as you started to listen to it.
The island announced that a celestial Dragon was going to reach the island soon. Everyone was warned to be on good behaviour and not come in the way of Celestial Dragon in order not to die.
You were shaking like a leaf. Your breathing became faster along with your heart rate. You were sweating. You tried to breathe as air wouldnât enter your lungs.
You didnât want to look weak so you hid how you were once a slave but escaped with some others one day on an island. You hugged yourself and tried to breathe. You knew your past was always haunting you. You knew Zoro was waiting for you to tell him but chose not to.
Then you saw from a distance, a big ship had stopped on the port. You werenât very close to them but could see them.
You slowly looked up. You saw the man with grey hair and big beard, sitting on top of a slave. You saw how the slave crawled down the ship with that jerk on top of his back.
That man⌠he tortured you. He lit his cigar and with it, he burnt the skin on your shoulder just to make you scream in pain. Once you screamed heâd use that reason to beat you up and not give you food for days. Oh how he smiled when you cried with pain. He enjoyed to make you suffer as you were his new slave. You remember how Zoro frowned after seeing your scars every time he looked at them. Chopper cried when he treated them, but you just lied whenever they asked about your scars. Of course Zoro didnât believe them because he knew you werenât ready to tell him. So he chose to wait.
You froze in place. In your head you screamed. You knew you should run away. But you couldnât. Tears wouldnât stop flowing from your eyes.
âZo..roâ, was the only word you managed to say as you shivered. Suddenly you felt two strong arms pull you back to a hard chest. As soon as he hugged you, your knees became weak as you trembled. He caught you and wiped your tears soothingly. He asked you what had happened but you couldnât speak. Instead you pointed towards the Celestial dragon.
After hearing the announcement, Zoro actually had a plan of getting you then running to ship with everyone and getting away. But after seeing you in such a state, his mind changed. He exactly knew what to do. Meanwhile you see Robin chan and chopper running towards you two in order to leave the island quickly. Their hearts broke as they saw you weeping as you held Zoro tightly.
Robin chan hugged you as Zoro placed his hand on his swords and ran towards the Celestial dragon. He beat all the marines around and charged front. Then you saw Luffy attacking with Sanji by his side. Zoro sliced off the clothes of the celestial dragon and scarred his torso.
âYou canât get away after hurting my loverâ, he glared at the celestial dragon. Then the monster trio ran towards our direction.
âLETâS SAIL QUICKLYâ, Luffy shouted. Zoro came running towards you and picked you up with ease as he ran towards Sunny. You threw your arms around his neck and you wrapped your legs around his waist.
You hugged Zoro and inhaled his scent. He smelled like wood and leaves. That must be because of him getting lost in the woods. Well you knew you had to thank your crew for doing this for you. For now you just closed your eyes and held onto your boyfriend tightly. He was your love, your man, your marimo and the one person you'd love to call... your precious prince.
BLACK LEG SANJI
You and Sanji walked around the small island before you again continued your journey. You both heard a loud noise which sounded like a horn. You looked at the place from where the sound was coming and saw that it was a ship of Celestial Dragon.
The celestial dragon had brown hair and had a small beard. His snot was visible to everyone. He was sitting on a person who was bleeding from his head. He wasnât even treated. He looked very injured.
You could recognise that celestial dragon. He was the one who tortured you by beating you with rods to make you scream in pain. He made you to work all day long without mercy. He made you to scream and then hit you for screaming.
Without mercy he sat on top of you while you carried him, then kicked you in the stomach because you fell to ground as you couldnât carry him.
He loved to harass you and all the other slaves. His evil grin spread wide whenever you collapsed to the floor because you couldnât even stand anymore. Now he had another reason to beat you up. Once you knocked out while you carried him. He kicked you but you didnât respond. So he thought you were dead and made his men to throw you in the boat of dead bodies of slaves. But you were still alive. When you woke up you immediately threw up into the ocean. The bodies of the slaves were horrible because of their condition and how beaten up they were.
You cried for them and also⌠you also cried with happiness that you werenât with him anymore. You felt sorry for the bodies of slaves. But the feeling of dead bodies round you didnât disgust you because the celestial dragons were the most disgusting of all. You were happy to even be alive and escape that hell.
You hid behind Sanji as you gasped for air. You were having trouble breathing. Your surroundings became very uncomfortable. Your heartbeat was raising quickly as you looked at the celestial dragon. You were getting a panic attack. He hugged you as you held onto him tightly.
Sanji didnât ask you anything. He didnât knew you past nor did he want to pressure you. He respects if a person choses to not talk about their past. He never saw you so scared. He soothingly rubbed your back. Sanji was your home and straw hats were your nakama. You slowly admitted that you were his slave and he tortured and harassed you, so you were scared of him.
He wiped your tears as he told you to just stay back and watch as he lit his cigarette and went towards that jerk who made you cry. He kicked everyone with ease and wiped out everyone. Then came Luffy and Zoro as they joined the fight. Chopper and Nami hugged you as you returned their embrace. Sanji kicked the Celestial dragon in face and broke his neck.
Everyone started to run towards Sunny and with one swift motion Sanji jumped in front of you and picked you up like a princess. Then he did his Sky walk while he still held you in his arms. You always go crazy whenever he does that. To light up your mood he always picks you up like you donât weigh anything and sky walk on top of that whenever you feel sad.
This time⌠it was differentâŚ. You fell in love again. Tears streamed down your cheek as you hugged him tightly with your head in the crook of his neck. He smelled like shampoo, perfume, spices and nicotine. He was your prince, your dream, your knight and your All Blue.
TRAFALGAR D WATER LAW
Just like usual, before leaving the island, you and your captain were stocking up on medicines and medicinal books. It was like shopping date. You never get bored with this because itâs your special moment together.
You both go and pay for it and exit the shop. Penguin came to you and took your bags as he went to the submarine. That was so sweet.
You and Law both slowly walked towards the port hand in hand as you talked. Law rarely shows PDA and this was one of the days he at least holds your hand in public. Suddenly there was a loud scream and you two ran towards it. There you saw a celestial dragon was beating up her slave.
Law looked at you and saw you were completely pale. Your eyes were wide open. Your limbs trembled and you went behind law and stayed there. You gripped his shirt tightly and covered your mouth with your other hand. You were crying but didnât want to make any sound but still Law could hear your sobs and his heart dropped.
Law didnât knew why you were crying. But being the clever man he was understood that you were getting scared because of the⌠celestial Dragon. Then it came to him. The scars on your back and legs. He always knew they werenât from a battle like you always said.
Now that he knew... oh boy he was furious. Bepo soon came towards you two. Law made sure you were with Bepo and he slowly went towards the celestial dragon. Not even a second later he freed the slaves in a swift motion and made them to teleport. The chains exploded and created a smoke screen. Then he wiped out all the soldiers and guards in the way and in one instant he got a heart in his hands. Due to the heavy smoke no one could even see where he was and who he was.
With the heart Law ran towards you. He gave you the heart as he picked you up and ran with Bepo on his side towards the submarine. You had that awful womanâs heart with you now. In your hands.
That horrible woman pulled your hair harshly and used to beat you. You were her new toy, which meant you were the new person who they enjoyed to break. As you could scream and cry for help she watched with happiness in her eyes as she burned the skin on your legs and back. Without mercy she used to burn the same the same place even when it wasnât healed completely.
You had another slave friend with whom you escaped but⌠in the end, that celestial dragon, shot your friend. As you both escaped. You ran⌠you ran with tears in your eyes as your friend screamed for freedom. You knew that meant for your freedom especially. You still had horrible nightmares because of the trauma. You still could clearly hear the screams of the slaves who begged for their lives but got killed in a terrible way in her hands. You still have the heart in your hand⌠you could chooseâŚ. Life or death for that horrible person.
You look at law and smiled with happiness as you let your tears fall. You were so happy to be a member of the heart pirates. And mostly⌠a person beloved to Law. You were lucky to have Law as your captain, your saviour, your boyfriend and your Pirate King.
THE END

Something More (the mandalorian x reader)
CHAPTER 1: INTO THE STARS
Rated: Explicit (not this chapter, but future chapters will be)
Warnings: light descriptions of violence
Summary:Â Meeting the Mandalorian was like colliding into the rest of your life at a momentâs notice. Like oh, there you are. It was both jarring and familiar at the same time, like stepping into a minute with no intentions and stepping out of it in deja-vu. You had always been told you made too much out of everything, that you blew up every circumstance to fit some kind of grand destiny, some huge significance. If anyone asked, youâd swear up and down this was different. It was different. The Mandalorian sweeping you off your feet and out of your back alley haunts and narrow escapes was something kismet. Something cosmic. Something more.
Or, a slow burn love story across the stars featuring you, Din, and your little green baby. With love, angst, lust, and everything in between following you across the galaxy.*this deviates from canon for the most part, the plot begins at the very end of season 1 and will deviate for about half of season 2! there is LOTS planned for this (i already have 19k words written & will be posting regularly) so i hope you all enjoy!! <3 muah*
this is 1000000% completely inspired by the incredible behemoth SUPREME Mandalorian fic Rough Day by our lord & savior @no-droids but it will have its entire own plot & more of a slowburn in both love & smut, specifically for suffering long haul romance lovers like myself!
i already have 19k words written & will be ATTEMPTING to post updates regularly (and if i get excited about getting new chapters up, they might come early. i'm gonna try to post Saturday evenings every week, extenuating circumstances notwithstanding <3
hope you enjoy!!! more to come VERY SOON!!!
Meeting the Mandalorian was like colliding into the rest of your life at a momentâs notice.
You met him on Nevarro. You werenât even supposed to be there. You were supposed to be back in the Mid Rim by that point, long gone from your last mission gone sour. Your ship had broken down and you narrowly escaped a crash landing, and youâd hiked for hours through the unyielding lava fields for the closest town, with nothing but a handful of credits and the clothes on your back. Somehow, miraculously, you were able to grab the last of your water and your motherâs necklace from where it was hanging on the dashboard before the magma had bubbled up and claimed the better half of the old X-wing before you could go back in for more.
âDank ferrik,â you seethed, and the curse felt alien under your tongue. There was no one out here to hear it but yourself, the lava, and the sulfuric air, anyways, so you grumbled out a few more before the ship fully sank into the magma in front of you.
The ship itself wasnât a big lossâyouâd only gotten it because it was the cheapest after you lost your own to that smuggler, but being stranded on a planet that was so aggressive towards any sort of survival wasnât the best circumstance in the galaxy. But here you were, stuck, unmoored, anchorless, on a planet not known for anything except its rivers of lava and a bounty huntersâ guild youâd heard about and tried your best to stay away from. That town was the only landmark you had, though, so you begrudgingly trekked across Nevarroâs molten surface in search for any form of civilization.
The sky had started to slip off into darkness, and the small flecks of the other Outer Rim planets glistened lightyears away from where you were hiking when you stumbled over something and nearly fell into what you assumed was a dormant vat of lava. It was only when you scrambled away from the hot pocket of ground that you realized it was a stormtrooper helmet. A stormtrooper helmet with a head still in it. You gasped and skittered away, pushing off the heels of your hands to get upward as fast as you can, not even registering the heat eating through the skin of your palms. You didnât have a weaponâthe old blaster youâd carried for the last few years had been eaten up with the X-Wingâand as your eyes adjusted to a collection of white armor and bodies on the ground, you kicked yourself from not prioritizing the gun over getting out unscathed.
You didnât scare easy. You grew up on a slowly abandoned Rebel base back on Yavin, and even after your parentsâ deaths, you were surrounded by a legion of people who took care of you and taught you how to fight. Really, you were good at getting out of sticky situations that looked too dire to surviveâtake the crash landing an hour back for exampleâbut you had a giant blind spot of earnestness to believe the people you went into business with were being sincere. Thatâs how the ship had crashed in the first place, you exchanged a repair of your original starship with providing Alderaanian liquor to a smuggler and his droid back on Dantooine who had both cut and run with it before fully repairing the vitally broken control panel. It was a rookie mistake, which you definitely werenât, but he had just seemed so earnest in his need for the alcohol, and your fatal flaw was that you always trusted people who needed help. Even to your own detriment.
It had been your downfall back home, and at least twice when you were adventuring through the Outer Rim, and when you narrowly escaped a Deveronian when you had first started out on your own, because you were too close to a scumbag in friendâs clothing who fumbled the bag and left you for dead. He even stole your ship, then, and you had to make a series of sordid deals to get off Polis Massa, let alone find a place where you could crash safely for weeks before you could work up enough credits to get the X-Wing, which was, quite ceremoniously, dead now.
You shivered with the realization that you might be in danger, too. There were so many bodies scattered across this ridge and the next, and a handful of crashed TIE fighters. The sight of them didnât strike fear into youâthey never really had, you were raised in the Alliance and you could outfly the Empire since you were six years oldâbut they made you feel uneasy. Nevarro didnât have a Rebel base, and you had never met someone in the Alliance who was from the planet. With the obvious show of Imperial affiliation and the bounty huntersâ guild, Nevarro was seedy enough that it kept you on edge as you walked, hopefully towards a town with people who didnât want anything more from you than an easy job.
It must have been near dawn when you finally made it to the edge of the town. It was at best shot to all hell and at worst absolutely obliterated. Your heart sank. There were more dead suits of white armor scattered across the dirt and sand. There were helmets on pikes that looked far too fresh. Your hand twitched near your thigh where your blaster was usually strapped. All of this was a bad idea. You shouldnât have left the blaster in the ship. If you were really playing the game of regrets, though, you never should have helped the smuggler. You should have paid the fifteen more credits to get the X-Wing fixed on Tatooine instead. You should have stayed on Yavin after your parents died and shouldnât have been so earnest to make it on your own andâ
âHey.â The voice came from behind you, and you whipped around so fast your hair fell from where the clasp had been hanging on to nothing but a prayer since your crash landing. You shook it away from your face, eyes squinted at the figure that seemed to materialize behind you. âWhere are you from, pretty thing?â
âCoruscant,â you lied through your teeth. The name of the planet youâve been trying to avoid for years burns a hole through your belly.
âYou donât belong in a place like this.â He stepped into the light, and he wasnât human. You didnât know what he was, exactly, but his tone made your skin crawl. You held your ground.
âYouâre right. I donât. Iâm looking for a mechanic.â
âIâm a mechanic.â Like hell he was. You clenched your jaw, trying to look menacing. The grease and sweat from the hike there was smeared on your face, your pants had gotten ripped while climbing out of the crash. You didnât like how his eyes fixated hungrily on the flesh of your exposed thigh, and you had to shake the thought away while you walked into a voice much more brazen than your own.
âDo you know how to fix an X-Wing?â You stepped forward, and the Rebel insignia on your necklace glinted in the low light. Around these parts, after the fall of the Empire, youâve heard Rebels strike fear into the local folk. Suddenly, the guy took a step backward, and you reveled in your menace for a split second before you realized someone was standing behind you.
He didnât speak again before he took off. You stuttered, the sudden appearance of the figure behind you catching in your chest, and it rose to a cut off yelp when a red blast knocked the one who had hit on you off his feet, spiraling over a stormtrooper body, falling to the rocky floor. Dead. He was dead. You spun, praying that your heart hammering in your chest was just leftover adrenaline and not a signifier of a new threat.
Standing behind you, outfitted entirely in silver reflective armor, was a Mandalorian. âNevarro doesnât have mechanics.â
You squinted. You were completely taken aback by his presence, his hulking realness, but suddenly his statement overpowered your revelry. âI find that hard to believe.â
âThat X-Wing crashed out there is yours.â It isnât a question. His voice is deep, a baritone that spreads warmth even blocked by the modulator in his helmet. Youâd only heard of Mandalorians in stories, legends, around the campfires growing up. You didnât expect one to ever materialize in anything other than myth, let alone stand in front of you, electric.
You nod. Did he follow you all the way to town?
âYou arenât looking for a mechanic.â His voice is so sure, so big. Your world spins on its axis, the feeling foreign and familiar all at once. He had spoken three sentences to you, and already, you felt that dizzy, magnetic pull that you tried to convince yourself was there much more often than it was.
âIâŚâ You trail off, staring up at his visor. He seems larger than life, much larger than you, at least, and for some reason, the hugeness is cutting off all of your words before they can fully form. âNo. I need a way off this planet, though.â
âCan you fly?â
You balk at his question, annoyedâobviously, you could flyâand then remember the only track record you have in the Mandalorianâs eyes is your ship, crash landed and then immediately swallowed by lava. âIâm a pilot. A runner. Iâve been flying since I was six years old.â
He takes a minute, completely silent. The noise of the scattered stormtrooper bodies around you suddenly seems deafening. You arenât scared of him. You think. Your heart is still hammering, but itâs nothing like the fear that rushed through you when the alien talked to you a few minutes ago. Itâs differentânot adrenaline, exactly, and not fear. You place the feeling when it washes over you again, warm and unexpectedâExcitement.
âOkay.â He moves, and you startle. You didnât realize the conversation was over.
âUh,â you stammer, âDo you⌠do you need a pilot?â
âNo,â he says, over his shoulder. His strides are long. You step forward, almost pulled after him, then stuttered to a stop. âBut I might be your only ride out of here.â
âOh,â you manage, and then follow him. The dim light spreads over the horizon as you walk, stunned into silence by his own, trying to mimic his step, his quiet. It doesnât happen. Youâre clunking along beside him, the noise made even louder by the silence in his gait. âIâm not picky, where we go, you knowâI was heading away from the Outer Rim, so Iâm in no rush to get back there, butâI mean, Iâm thankful that youâre taking me anywhereââ
âI canât pay you. But you donât have to pay me, either.â
You blink, feet stuttering to a near stop, buffering before you remember to keep following him. âIâm sorry?â
âYou can fly, right?â
You blink, eyes darting up to the back of his helmet. It might just be the modulator, but thereâs no air in his voice, no struggle to cross the hard, hot terrain. Itâs impressive. âI can, but you thought you didnât need a pilotâ?â
âYou were a rebel.â His voice is curt. Quick.
Your eyebrows furrow, looking down at the insignia on your necklace and then back up at him. Thereâs a dry breeze over the molten moors, and his cape catches in the wind. It flutters. Itâs the first sign of something gentle about him. Itâs the memory you take with you for months later, savoring it for when heâs leaving you on the ship while he goes and catches his bounties, one by one. You cling to it in the long lapses of time where he doesnât offer you anything but silence. Youâll hold onto it, a butterfly of a memory, for weeksâuntil he offers you something softer, something warmer. Something real.
You donât know that in the moment, though. Right now, heâs asked a question, and youâre struggling to answer it honestly. âI was.â
âYou donât scare easily.â
Itâs like heâs putting together these impossible puzzle pieces of your life. How is he guessing this? Heâs known you for maybe ten whole minutes. It swells in your chest, a thunderbird of a thing, and you donât know why.
âIâd like to think so,â you manage, as he tilts his helmet back to search you for your answer. Your breath hitches in your throat at the thought of his eyes on you, and you wonder what color they are. Maker. Where did that come from?
âGood.â
A ship seems to materialize out of nowhere, but it seems more likely that you were so caught up in the mystery of the Mandalorian and keeping your gaze locked on him that his ship was in the periphery of your vision. You follow him, still confused, up the descended gangplank. Sitting in the middle of the ship is a tiny green baby, with eyes ten times the size of its nose, with peach fuzz lazily dusting the top of its head. Itâs holding a tiny silver ball in its three-fingered hands, looking up at the Mandalorian with outstretched arms.
You watch, in stunned silence, as the giant hulking silver figure crouches down to pick up the baby, meeting its little coos with soft words right back. Itâs as soft as his cape fluttering in the wind, an unexpected, fleeting feeling of warmth. You donât know what to do with yourself. The warm breeze buffets the small of your back, ruffles your loose hair. You just stand there, entirely enamored with this tiny green baby in the Mandalorianâs arms, speechless.
âYou donât scare easily,â the Mandalorian repeats.
You shake your head. âNope.â
He holds the baby up to you. âHow about now?â
You blink, confused. âAm I supposed to be scared of it?â
âHim.â
You take a tentative step forward, gaze flickering between the two of them, wondering what would have happened if you had crash landed literally anywhere else, at literally any other time. Something big and ceremonious swells somewhere deep in your chest.
âIâm not scared,â you finally say, and when your eyes find his visor again, you hope he knows you mean youâre not scared of either of them. You could beâmost people with common sense are struck with fear at the sight of meeting a Mandalorian, especially one associated with such a widespread bounty huntersâ guildâbut fear just keeps getting pushed away as the seconds pass. A small voice in the back of your head whispers that this is another mistake of being too trustful, but the larger half of you knows how to handle yourself if you find trouble. Besides, he has a tiny alien kid, and something tells you the Mandalorian wouldnât put the baby in a situation that he deemed unsafe. As the door zips shut behind you, you step forward into the shipâinto the place youâll eventually make your homeâheart still hammering on and on, thrumming as the three of you lift off of Nevarroâs surface and into the stars.

Say My Name and Iâll Be There:Â 7.2
Authorâs Note:Â This is the longest chapter so far!! *ehe*Â Canât wait for all the comments on this one....
Xiao eyed the three Fatui agents that were in charge of escorting the two of you to Dottore's arena the next day. Â You found it rather odd that Childe and Dottore didn't accompany them this time, but didn't question it until they sought to bring only you with them.
Is this a chance for Xiao to escape? Â Your gaze flit to the yaksha behind you as the agents bound your wrists with metal cuffs. Â Xiao seemed as confused as you were. Â "Where are we going?" You asked in hopes that they'll take you far enough away to avoid Xiao's powers. Â They didn't answer you and pushed you out of the hallway.
They stopped just short of the throne room, taking a right instead of heading for those giant unwelcoming doors. Â When they opened the next door, you halted. Â It seemed like it was meant for some sort of conference room, but lighting was a bit over-the-top with candle lights and such. Â A delicious aroma rose steadily into the air from the exquisite food that sat on the table.
"You're an idiot if you think this will woo me," you snorted as the agents removed your cuffs and left the room. Â "Let's skip the crap, Tartaglia, and tell me what the hell you think you're doing."
"Why so skeptical, ojou-chan? Â I just thought you'd like something to eat." Â Childe held a smug smirk that complimented the devious glint in his eyes.
"Uh, yeah no. Â I'll be going back to my cell now." Â You spun on your heel and grabbed the doorknob.
"If you insist, I could fetch Dottore and resume your testing for the day." Â When your hand froze on the knob, his smile widened. Â "That's what I thought. Â Sit."
You sat as far away from him as physically possible, and it drew a light chuckle from his lips. Â "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to check in with you." Â Childe grabbed a fork with ease and began to dig into the meal. Â "This kind of treatment could continue day after day if you chose to cooperate."
"Are you trying to butter me up with food? Â Do you seriously not know me well enough to know this trick won't work on me?"
"I seem to recall that it worked if it was chocolate," a boyish glint sparkled in his eyes.
Your fist slammed on the table and your eyes began to glow from the agitation. Â "If you're trying to pull that 'shark week' stunt again, I swear I will--"
"--'Impale me?' Â Were those the words you were looking for?"
"Okay, if there is no point to this conversation other than to infuriate me, I'm leaving."
"Have you thought of what I said, ojou-chan?" Â When you raised an unamused brow, he continued. Â "You can make a life for yourself here. Â I'm sure with your...unique abilities, you'd be able to climb the ranks and might even rise to harbinger status."
"I have no interest in becoming a harbinger."
"The point being, you could choose whatever path you want if you joined us."
"The last time I checked, the Childe I knew enjoyed watching me suffer. Â Why is he going out of his way to recruit me?"
"I think it'd be much easier on all of us if you joined our ranks. Â Besides, at least with us, you could find something greater in life than..."
"Than chasing the love of a yaksha? Is that what you were going to say?" Â Your glare was as cold as ice. Â "I have no interest in this conversation."
"Listen to you; you're beginning to sound just like him," he retorted. Â "Hold off on your retorts for a moment, ojou-chan." He placed his utensils down. Â "Tell me, what would your plans be if you escaped with him?"
"Like I would tell you," you sneered.
"You've just proved my point. Â I can see right through you; you don't have any." Â Childe leaned forward and set his chin on his hand. Â He held a smile that was somewhere between teasing and cruel. Â You weren't intimidated and continued to hold his gaze. Â "Ojou-chan, I'll be honest. Â You'll die one way or another if you managed to escape, whether that be at the hands of the Fatui, or at the doing of the yaksha. Â As a matter of fact, we wouldn't be the ones to kill you; you're the one killing yourself. Â Death by a broken heart sounds more agonizing than what awaits you with us."
"You're not getting in my head."
"I'm not? Â Then why, ojou-chan, does internal conflict arise on your face when you look at him?"
"Maybe because I'm having a conversation with him in my head." Â
"You know what I think? Â I think deep down, you know I'm right. Â Part of you hates me for it, but the rest of you agrees with me. Â With us, you could have anything you want if you can take it. Â Be it fame, fear, glory, power, money. Â Even love could grow within the ranks if you so desired it."
"Is this some sort of weird courting ritual?" Â You bit back, but despite the hostility you portrayed to Childe, you were beginning to falter. Â "I don't care for any of that stuff."
"But what you want most is love, no? Â The yaksha can't give it to you; he's incapable of it. Â You can't deny that much." Â Childe refrained from grinning ear-to-ear as he watched the internal turmoil reach your expression. Â You had hidden your hands under the table, haven't blinked in the past two minutes, and kept shifting in your seat. Â Oh, how he's gotten under your skin. Â He loved watching you squirm. Â "Don't misunderstand me, ojou-chan. I'm not trying to insinuate love between us; that ship has sailed. Â I'm simply looking out for your wellbeing."
You gripped the butter knife that was sitting next to your plate, flipping it over as you thought of the possibility of being able to one-shot him from here. Â His lips curled upward slightly as if he knew what you were thinking. Â Then, you placed the utensil back down and let out a long irritated sigh. Â "Your words are falling on deaf ears, Tartaglia. Â I'm going back to my cell now."
On the contrary, I think you've heard me loud and clear, ojou-chan.
............................................
The second you were shoved back into your cell, the tears began to fall. Â Xiao watched you for a moment before gesturing for you to sit next to him, but you ignored him and sat in the far corner of the room. Â You had glanced up at him once, noticing the tears that were also falling from his cheeks and thinking he was actually crying. Â When you remembered it was just a side effect and that the tears manifested involuntarily, you reburied your face in your knees.
"Are you okay?" Â Xiao sat so he was facing you, but didn't come any closer to the walls. Â He hastily wiped your tears away from his face. Â What a nuisance. Â Can't emotions manifest themselves in a more convenient way?
"Just peachy," you sniffled without raising your head. Â
As if I could ever join the Fatui! He's diluted for thinking something so stupid, for thinking I'm anything like him! Â You wanted to scream and punch the wall from how frustrated you were. Â How dare he try and twist me around like that! Â The tears continued to spill and soak into your jeans as helplessness and hatred washed over you like the tide. Â Xiao, why...?
The yaksha perked up when he heard you. Â "What?" Â
Why can't I be free of human emotions, just as you are? Â Why must I be burdened with them?
...................................................
Two more days passed, but the two of you were never taken to the arena. Â Apparently the Tsaritsa had other temporary plans that required the presence of the harbingers for the time being. Â So, when the time finally came for you and Xiao to be escorted out of the cell once again, you were surprised to see what looked like rookie guards instead of the usual seasoned agents.
Their rookie-ness was primarily given away by the fumbling of the keys before the cell door unlocked. Â Then it was painfully obvious that these three guards were idiots by the way they swung the door open enough that it effectively gave Xiao an opening out of the sealed box. Â The two of you exchanged shocked glances before Xiao bolted through the door, his lance manifesting in time to pierce through the first guard and pin him to the opposing wall outside the hallway. Â
It was an outright slaughter.
Before you even had the chance to get to your feet, the yaksha was already retracting his polearm from the third guard's torso that lay on the floor. Â The heavy metallic stench of blood made your stomach riot and you averted your eyes to keep the nausea under control.
"A-Are we really doing this? Â Are we really making our escape?" Â Your hands were shaking from the adrenaline as well as an emotion you recognized to be fear.
Zhongli...was it really a coincidence that I heard you last night, and now the guard schedules are mixed up? Â Xiao furrowed his brows as his eyes danced over the bloody corpses. Â "Let's move."
"Okay..." Â You carefully avoided slipping on the soaked floor and followed Xiao. Â He was surprisingly familiar with the hallways considering he had been blindfolded whenever he was outside the cell. Â "How do you know this place so well?"
"Sight is not the only thing we are gifted," he answered as he peeked down a corridor. Â "This way."
Several Fatui agents and skirmishers turned the corner as if they had been intentionally sent. Â There was no way they could have heard the ruckus from up here. Â Xiao waved a hand over his face, and his mask manifested with ease. Â A demonic aura emanated around him, visibly blackening the immediate area around his body. Â The new sight sent a chill down your spine. Â "Stay out of my way."
You followed his order and ran back the way you came, using the corner as cover. Â He first burst into the cryo skirmisher, who was practically first in line for a quick death. Â The polearm sliced across his torso, then Xiao shoved it through his heart. Â The second the blade was ripped out of flesh, geo and pyro skirmishers surrounded him.
"LAMENT!" Â Xiao leapt into the air and dove into the ground with his spear. Â The shockwave of his anemo burst sent spears of air ricocheting into the skirmishers. Â They struggled to their feet after the devastating blow, and more Fatui agents filtered into the hallway. Â Xiao performed another series of plunging attacks until no one but him was moving. Â He jerked his head to the side and his mask evaporated. Â "Come."
You didn't have time to drool over how hot that was--"Ah, wait, Xiao. Â That's the throne room up ahead--"
If my intuition is correct...The yaksha burst through the doors despite your warning.
"Xiao--! H-huh?" Â You ran after him only to run into his back. Â You peeked over his shoulder to see why he stopped in his tracks. Â "What's going on?"
No one was in the throne room save for the most important players of this story. Â The Tsaritsa, who was standing in front of her throne; Childe, her beloved war hammer; Signora and Scaramouche, who stood off to the side as mere observers; Zhongli, with his arms crossed and eyes blazing with fury; and Aether, who held a firm look of determination. Â The atmosphere was tense, even as they all turned their heads to the sound of the doors crashing open.
"I've massacred every last one of your agents," Xiao seethed at the cryo archon as the two of you approached the group. Â "Our suffering is no longer."
"Xiao," Zhongli nodded, relief washing over him when he confirmed the two of you were okay.
"Thank the archons," Aether ran over and hugged you. Â "I'm sorry we took so long." Â He hid his surprise at how thin you were.
"You were saying, Morax?" Â The Tsaritsa refocused everyone's attention, and you and Xiao stood at Zhongli's side. Â The room seemed to inhabit a colder atmosphere than the first time you visited. Â She could've cared less that you and Xiao killed her men.
"You've broken our contract," the archon clenched his jaw, but remained as composed as ever. Â "Thou shall not interfere with Liyue or the adepti."
The Tsaritsa's gaze flicked to the two of you. Â "Oh, is that so? Â I told you I'd do anything necessary to accomplish my goal."
"Those who break the contract will suffer the wrath of the rock. Â We have every nation on our side; the people of Teyvat are more than willing to wage war against you for your trespasses if you refuse to return the two of them."
"You think that's going to intimidate me?" The Tsaritsa let out a frigid chuckle at the thought. Â "Oh, Morax. Â You really are more brawn than brains. Â Alright, I will return the yaksha to you." Â She nudged her head at Xiao.
"And her." Â Zhongli pointed to you.
"Ha!" Â Another full laugh arose from the archon's lips. Â "Have you already forgotten the terms of your own contract? Â Liyue and adepti alone are to be untouched. Â She is neither."
"You can't do that!" Â Aether shouted, grabbing the hilt of his sword.
"Then I'm afraid we'll have to wage war because of your refusal." Â Zhongli hardened his gaze as he continued to stare at the Tsaritsa. Â You peered up at him only to realize that he was completely serious.
He wants to wage a world war for my sake? Â You sent a nervous glance to Xiao, and he didn't appear to have a problem with his superior's proposition. Â Neither did Aether. Â Your wavering eyes came to a rest on an amused Childe, who stood across from you. Â But...this bloodshed...would be my fault...
"Relax, Morax. Â Her test trials are already over; we have what we need." Â Your eyes lifted to the Tsaritsa. Â "She won't be put through such harsh treatment again."
"Then why do you want to keep her? Â Just let her go!" Â Aether continued to glare daggers. Â To watch his friend be taken away by a god just as Lumine had...he never wanted to feel the same pain again. Â The walls appeared to close in on him as he watched the same events repeat before his very eyes.
"She'll be an excellent addition to our ranks. Â I seek to recruit her; she will aid us in commencing trials for the hosts of the adeptal enhancements." Â Xiao shifted so that you were mostly hidden behind him. Â "She will be treated with great care as long as she cooperates."
"She will be part of no such thing," Xiao and Zhongli jinxed one another.
You couldn't pull your gaze away from Childe; it was like the two of you came to some sort of weird understanding of one another in this moment. Â You were right, your eyes widened at him. Â This bloodshed for my sake...I can't let them go through with this.
"You can't fight without your gnosis, Morax. Â Your threats do not concern me."
I told you, ojou-chan. Â Out there, you cannot live, the harbinger seemed to say with his eyes.
We'll be on the run if we took off right now. Â We'll be hiding every day for the rest of our lives. Â If the war actually happens instead of an escape, all these people will die for one measly girl. Â Their blood will be on my hands, on Xiao's hands--And then there's the matter of my unrequited feelings...I can't deal with any of this--The world seemed to spin around you, and you grimaced at the feeling.
"So be it," Zhongli materialized his polearm. Â Aether drew his sword.
Xiao tensed when he felt your despair and dread flow through him. Â He glanced over his shoulder to gage your wellbeing and was still just as confused as he tried to pinpoint your thoughts. Â
I can't...You gaze rose to meet your protector. Â For both our sakes...
Childe's grin widened when you stepped forward. Â "Stop this!" Â Your high-pitched cry interrupted the rising arguments between Aether, Zhongli, and the Tsaritsa. Â "All of you, stop!" Â When all eyes turned to you, you took a deep breath to stop the tears from forming. Â "I'll do it."
"WHAT?!"
"If she's willing to stay, your war is pointless," a thin smile spread across the cryo archon's lips. Â Then she addressed you directly. Â "A wise choice, young lady. Â You will be treated well now that you are choosing to participate."
You spun around when Xiao gripped your upper arm. Â "What do you think you're doing?" Â His voice was hushed, but there was something fierce both in his gaze and his grip on you. Â "There's no need to--"
Your arm left his grip, and you addressed Zhongli and Aether. Â "I can't let you guys wage war on my behalf whether it's a bluff or not. Â Whatever the outcome would be, it would end in thousands of pointless deaths. Â I can't let you guys do this."
"But they'll kill you!" Â Aether shook your shoulders, desperate to prevent another incident like his sister's. Â "Don't you understand what's happening?! Â You'll--"
"I'll be just fine on my own," you gave him a half-smile. Â "It's not like I'll be able to live peacefully if I escaped anyway. Â They'd always be on our tail. Â We'd never escape the danger of the Fatui." Â Xiao glared at Childe when he heard the regurgitation of the harbinger's words.
"...Are you sure you want this?" Â Zhongli observed you carefully. Â "Once you join the Fatui, there will be no escape."
"If it's to protect everyone, if it's to protect the three of you, I'm sure." Â You weren't aware of the tears that stained your face. Â You then turned your attention to Xiao, who stood back. Â "Listen, I-"
"I don't agree with this," he said plainly. Â "I told you there was no need to sacrifice yourself for anyone's sake. Â I told you to trust in us."
"Xiao." Â You threw your arms around him, feeling him flinch under your sudden touch before hesitantly placing his hands at your sides. Â I can't stand around and let innocents get hurt, just as you can't do the same. Â His eyes widened as he quietly listened to your prayer. Â You pulled away slightly and brushed his bangs out of his face, hand cupping his cheek. Â A few of your tears were falling from his eyes as he looked into yours. Â You brought your forehead to his, intent on holding him for as long as he'd let you. Â You may never understand this, and that's okay, but I love you.
Xiao's breath caught in his throat and his grip around you tightened. Â His eyes wavered immensely, releasing more tears as he replayed your prayer in his mind. Â Only, a couple of those tears didn't belong to you; they were his own. Â "What're you..."
"Heh, you have no idea how hard it was to say that," you forced a laugh as more tears dripped down your cheeks, and you tore away from him completely.
Aether watched the two of you with utter confusion, while Zhongli observed you intently.  It appears she has admitted her feelings.  Xiao, will you follow suite?  His gaze flicked expectantly  to the yaksha, who was more than distraught and traumatized by the entire situation.
You didn't wait nor expect a reply. Â "I will aid you," you spun around and addressed the Tsaritsa, "but it will be under my terms. Â These three are to stay out of whatever you're scheming. Â Not a single hair on the tops of their heads is to be harmed."
"You have my word." The Tsaritsa thought it was adorable at how hard-headed you were. Â It reminded her of Childe, and also that of an ant. Â Such a small insignificant being that thought it held a significant place in this world. Â Absolutely adorable.
"You guys should leave," you lowered your voice as you turned back to the trio of your apparently-not-needed rescuers. Â "I'm sorry I've caused you all this trouble. Â Please know traveling with you three meant the world to me." Â The tears continued to fall even though you failed to acknowledge their presence.
"You're serious about this," Aether bit his lip to prevent himself from crying. Â "But your Granny...the village...the Lantern Rite--"
"I'll come back one day. Â That's a promise," your eyes met Xiao's. Â I swear to Rex Lapis, I will return.
The Tsaritsa watched you return to her after seeing your friends off. Â A disturbing smile spread across her lips as you forced yourself to kneel at her feet. Â "I believe you've earned this back." Â She held her hand out to reveal your vision, to which you slowly took it into your hands and stared at it with vacant eyes.
You felt nothing as you attached it to your belt loop.

Chapter 10: Wedding Plans
< | Previous Chapter
Your first night at the new kingdom was rough. You laid in your bed for hours, your blanket pulled to your chin. You wanted nothing more to sleep- it sounded like a blessing at the moment. It didnât come easy, and you eventually moved to look out the window instead. The blanket hung around your shoulders as you did, a quiet sigh spilling from your lips. The view outside felt completely different at night, the soft glow of the moon spilling over the land. In the surrounding city you could make out the warm glow from the lamps. It was surreal, feeling so much more different than your home.
You pondered about what your life here would entail. Techno hadnât really said too much. You figured you would be told as the days went on what to expect. You figured most of your time as of current would be dedicated to preparation for the wedding. Maybe even some training, if Techno found time to do so. You didnât know what his duties would entail, and how similar they would be to Georgeâs. Youâd adjust inevitably. Exhaustion was weighing heavy on you, your gaze once more shifting to the bed longingly. You werenât entirely sure if you would be able to fall asleep just yet. You pondered going to the library, but decided against it. That was on the other side of the castle. You didnât have the confidence to go alone at night, either. Beyond Techno and his brothers, you didnât know who to trust.
So, with a defeated sigh, you trudged back to the bed and wrapped the blanket tight around you. Might as well try to sleep. Absorbing yourself into your thoughts would only lead to exhaustion tomorrow. Which wasnât what you really wanted. You knew tomorrow would inevitably be busy. The wedding had been mentioned multiple times, you knew there needed to be planning for that.
It felt like you had only blinked, head full of thoughts of the wedding, when you were cracking your eyes open. Light spilled into the room through the window you had gazed out of earlier, making you sigh. Breakfast. The thought made your stomach turn a little. This would be your first proper introduction to the court. Sure you knew plenty of people, but you had managed to evade dinner last night due to the tour. You couldnât as easily escape the obligation of breakfast. If you did, your body would make you pay dearly later. Besides, you couldnât avoid it forever.
You peeled yourself out of bed, wandering towards the closet. You wanted to make a good impression on everyone, without being so horribly overstated. You freted, before settling on one of your simpler dresses. You set it aside, thumbing through your jewelry for something to wear. You briefly ran your thumb over the necklace Dream had given you, marveling it. It was almost tempting to wear it, to have that comfort and security you had always felt with the blonde. Yet you decided against it, choosing something less understated that your mother had given you on one of your birthdays.
Once satisfied with the choice in clothes, you stole away to the bathroom. It had been a couple of days since you last bathed, and you figured it wouldnât hurt. You did skeptically eye the full bath, trying to guess when servants had slipped into your room to fill it. No matter. Steam rolled along the surface of it, and you couldnât help but sigh as you slid into it. It worked rather quickly to relax your muscles and nerves. You definitely needed that. You eyed the small shelf by the tub, picking up a few of the bottles to smell them.
One smelled of vanilla, which you deeply considered. The other you smelled carried the scent of rose and lemon, a scent you easily recognized. It was hardly different from the one you used at home, which you had forgotten to bring. The only thing that seemed to be missing was the base note of patchouli, and you did miss the earthiness just a touch. All the same, you were content that this was here, wherever it came from. You quickly used the bottle to help freshen yourself up. A quick run over with a damp cloth ensured you were rid of any dirt. As the water began to cool, you finally pulled yourself up and out of the tub to dress.
You lingered in the room, fingers running over your dress a few times. Nervously. You really didnât want to walk into the dining hall alone. As if to answer your silent pleas, there was a knock on your door that you quickly answered. Techno stood on the other end, peering down at you through his glasses. You offered a soft smile, trying to hide your nerves.
âI figured I should walk with you to breakfast. Since we missed dinner and all,â He explained, but you only nodded. You stepped out of the room, shutting the door behind you as you did so.
âRight, sorry about that, still. I appreciate you walking with me.â Your hands once more smoothed down over your dress, almost fussing on if your appearance was perfect. Who all would be there? Perhaps just a few other nobles, maybe the Kingâs advisors. It shouldnât be too big, should it?
âMaking things seem distant between us would only give people reason to dislike you.â The words only served to make you shudder, a frown on your face. You easily recalled Philzaâs words of the advisor, the thought causing your stomach to turn. This was going to be a rough breakfast, you already knew.
âRight. Some people arenât exactly excited about this. Thatâs fine. Iâm prepared for that,â You muttered in an attempt to reassure yourself. Techno reached up, giving a reassuring pat against your back.
âTheyâre harmless. It doesnât matter what they think,â Techno muttered as the pair of you descended the stairs. You sighed but nodded. He was right, honestly. It wasnât like the king hated you, and the rest of the royal family seemed to at least not hate you. So long as they didnât hate you, you hoped you could stomach the rest. From down the hall you could already hear Tommy making a fuss, causing you to smile. That helped ease your nerves. It was a different environment than you were used to.
You glanced at the table as you walked in, relieved by the familiar faces around the table. Techno moved towards his father, pausing to pull out one of the empty chairs and motioning you into it. Your eyes scanned the few unfamiliar faces as you sat down, trying to ease your anxiety.
âMorninâ Techno! Morninâ Technoâs wife!â Tommy called as Techno sat between you and his father, causing the pink-headed prince to glance at his brother.
âSheâs not my wife yet, Tommy,â he simply clarified, sounding far from amused.
âHowâd you sleep, kiddo?â Philza detracted the attention from his rambunctious nephew, offering you a smile. You relaxed a little, appreciating the older manâs words.
âI slept alright,â You murmured, offering a feeble smile. You hadnât slept great, or all that much, and you had a feeling it showed on your face.
âItâs a new place, thatâs always rough. Iâm sure itâll get better soon.â You could only nod at his words, thankful for the reassurance. He was nice, and truthfully you enjoyed that about him. He felt very much fatherly. Techno slid a cup in front of you, steam billowing from it. You smiled thankfully, offering a quiet thank you as you picked it up. Tea was definitely acceptable this early in the morning, especially as a slight chill clung to the castle.
The man sat beside Philza cleared his throat, offering a gentle smile. Your attention quickly turned to him, brow furrowing a little. He wasnât someone you recognized- definitely didnât meet him yesterday. âA pleasure to finally meet you. Iâm Eret- cousin to those three.â He motioned to the princeâs as he talked, and you nodded slightly.
âNice to meet you. Techno never mentioned having a cousin.â You set down the cup in your hands, glancing at Techno briefly. He furrowed his brow, a soft âheh?â leaving him.
âHe likes to forget about him.â Wilbur spoke up, causing Tommy to laugh. You sighed, shaking your head with a small laugh.
âI donât know how! Eretâs been here since he was little,â Tommy spoke between laughter, making your gaze turn back to the brunette across from you. He seemed almost embarrassed, shrugging.
âIâm sure Techno had a lot on his mind whenever he spoke of the kingdom, thereâs a lot of people to remember here.â Eret didnât seem too bothered by the lapse of information, and you shrugged.
âHe mentioned Tubbo, though. Is he forgetful enough to mention a family friend as opposed to his actual family?â You teased, throwing a sly grin at Techno. It was easy to slip into this with the egging on of his brothers.
âOh- Did he really? I mean, I practically did grow up with Tommy,â Tubbo asked, head popping up.
âYouâre like a little brother to us, Tubbo. You were always there, Eret didnât come to the kingdom until Techno was almost seven, remember?â Wilbur pushed, and the brunette seemed to purse his lips in thought.
âNot well, no. We love Eret anyways!â The man between Eret and Tubbo scoffed, a hand holding his head. Tired brown eyes stared at his plate, a glass bottle in hand. He looked rough, stubble lining his jaw and brown locks falling into his eyes. You eyed the brown liquid within the bottle as silence fell over the table.
âThatâs Schlatt, the advisor Philza spoke of yesterday,â Technoâs voice came quietly against your ear, making you jump in surprise. When the hell had he gotten there? Your attention quickly turned back to the man as he took a drink from the bottle. Was that alcohol?
Physically, you could see the similarities between him and Tubbo, but that was about it. Even now, the younger brunette seemed largely uncomfortable next to him. It made your chest pang, wondering what all had happened to cause the rift in their relationship.
Schlatt stood up with a grunt, sloppily pushing in his chair. âCome on, Tubbo. Weâve got work to do,â Schlatt called. There was a drawl in his voice that made you rather uncomfortable. You didnât like him, and you had a feeling it was similar to the way the princes felt towards him.
Tubbo looked down to his plate, seemingly steeling himself. âYes, Schlatt,â he muttered softly. What had Schlatt done that had made the brunette become so quiet? You didnât like it one bit. Before Tubbo could even move to follow his father, you spoke out.
âActually, I was hoping I could borrow Tubbo for today!â Tubboâs head snapped up at that, eyes wide. You blinked, not even sure what you were saying. Schlatt stopped his walk, bottle hanging from his hand as he turned to look at you. Perhaps glare was a better word? You swallowed, steeling yourself as you continued, âIâd really appreciate his input on the wedding plans.â
âThe wedding,â Schlatt sneered, eyes narrowed. His gaze moved from you, to Techno, then to his son. âWhatever, take the bastard for the ridiculous wedding. Like I give a damn.â With his words, he took a swig from the bottle before sauntering out of the dining hall. With his leave, the tension in the room seemed to dissipate.
A relieved sigh escaped Tubboâs lips as he slumped in his seat, closing his eyes. âThank you so much,â He mumbled into his hands. You sighed, shaking your head a little. Not exactly what you had expected, but youâd take it.Â
âI hate that he keeps calling you that,â Tommy grumbled, while Wilbur just patted his shoulder.
âIt gets him away from Schlatt for today, so whatâs it matter?â Wilbur offered with a shrug. Tommy just continued to grumble under his breath while Tubbo offered a weak smile.
âYou donât actually have to help with the wedding. I just didnât feel right leaving you to go with him.â You brushed it off with a smile. It was true, though. You truly didnât want to send Tubbo off with Schlatt. The man gave off a bad vibe you didnât like in the slightest. So, coming up with an excuse seemed the most feasible. The king sighed and shook his head, otherwise staying quiet. You had a feeling this wasnât too different from a normal morning.
âActually, I wouldnât mind helping! If everyone doesnât mind,â Tubbo sheepishly chimed, moving to rub the nape of his neck. Tommy groaned dramatically, slouching in his chair.
âTubbo, come on. Youâre gonna make us do stupid wedding planning all day? With Eret and Wilbur and Techno? At one time?â You snickered a little as he complained, head shaking. Wilbur smacked him in the back of his head in response to his dramatics.
âYour opinion doesnât count, Tommy.â His voice was so plain, even as the young blonde whined and rubbed the back of his head.
âIâll show you what does count! I swear, Iâll beat you so hard you wonât be able to remember your own name!â He shoved at his brother, and you shook your head.
âI donât mind if you tag along, Tubbo. Iâm sure the input will be appreciated,â You spoke over the ruckus of Wilbur and Tommy as the two pushed at each other. The words seemed to make Tubbo glow with excitement, almost as if the whole thing with Schlatt hadnât ever happened.
âAlright, boys, go outside before you break a plate or the table. Go on, do your fighting there.â Philza spoke from behind them, and your head popped up. He must have moved while you were focused on Tubbo. Tommy was stuck beneath Wilburâs arm, the older yanking him around. Philza unceremoniously pulled out the chairs they sat on, forcing them apart as he shooed them away. He looked exasperated, but fond of their antics all the same.
âIâll judge!â Tubbo called, standing up hurriedly. He gave a brief, sloppy bow towards the king before running after the two princes.
âIs it like this every morning?â You sat down your utensils, reclining in your seat.
âNot every morning, but a lot of them. It wasnât always this way,â Eret shook his head but smiled. You turned to Techno, where he stared towards the door with an affectionate look in his eyes. It was almost sweet, seeing the way he gazed after the rambunctious trio.
âIt only started to get like that a few years ago. Not quite becoming of princes, but they donât seem in a rush to behave like royalty.â Technoâs voice had the same fondness his gaze did, and you hummed in acknowledgement as you sipped the last of your tea, cradling the cup close.
âNot anymore, at least. We should go and start doing some planning ourselves,â Philza muttered, turning towards the king. The man nodded, slowly rising from his seat.
âPlease see to it your brothers donât destroy anything this time, Technoblade.â He gave him a pointed look, making him sigh and nod. The king walked away, Philza tailing behind him. Leaving you, Techno, and Eret sitting.
âWell, letâs get started? Thereâs no telling how long itâll take. Especially since Wilbur is currently in the process of fighting Tommy.â Eret shook his head as he spoke. You nodded, moving to stand. A hand entered your vision before you could even get to your feet. You shook your head, unable to help a laugh.
âShould I get used to you not letting me get out of my seat on my own?â You managed a lighthearted jab at him as you took his hand, allowing him to gently pull you up.
âYes.â The way he said it was so flat and monotone, you couldnât stop the laugh bursting from your lips. You just shook your head, giving a lopsided grin.
âThank you, Techno. Wanting to teach me to fight but not letting me get out of a chair without hovering.â His lips pursed at that, eyebrows furrowing. Like he saw nothing wrong with it. Not that there truly was, it just seemed almost contradictory. Eret even seemed equally amused, though he didnât poke at his cousin the way you did.
âIâll go ahead and get the boys before they destroy each other. Iâll meet you in the ballroom with them.â Techno gently pushed you towards his cousin, before striding off in front of you. You shrugged, walking alongside Eret towards the ballroom.
âItâs gonna be an interesting day, isnât it?â You questioned, glancing up at Eret. Of course he was tall. It really did run in the family.
âMost likely, yes. Theyâre never quiet, and Tommy gets antsy quick,â Eret said with a laugh, making you smile. You didnât think you would mind too much if it made it lively. It would take care of the uneasiness you felt regarding the wedding. A relief to the tension you had a feeling might form if it were just you and Techno.
âYou didnât always live here at the castle?â You broached the silence that had spread over the pair of you, and he hummed a little.
âNo. I came around the time I was eight. Their mother was my aunt, and some things happened with my parents. Philza ended up adopting me, so Iâm just a cousin on their other side now,â He chuckled, and you nodded. That made some sense. It just seemed the castle was hardly lacking in boys to run the place.
âI see. I imagine that keeps it rather busy here.â You shook your head, following as Eret opened the door to the ballroom.
âVery. Right! This is where the majority of the wedding will be held. The celebrations, namely. The formal ceremony will be held in the gardens, weâll go through those in a little bit.â Eret clapped his hands together, leading you through the ballroom. He pointed to various spots, explaining the plans he had for the celebrations. You would nod along, pitching in your own opinions when you felt it necessary.
âI think you should go to the brothel and get some women,â A new voice chimed in from near the veranda, making you jump.
âI like the way you think, Big Q! Itâs not a party without some women!â Tommy responded, and you turned towards the voices. You blinked at the new person standing among the princes, a lopsided grin on his face. His black hair was splayed messily on his head, smudges of dirt along his face. You had a feeling he had been messing with the other, who also had dirt on their faces and bodies. What a mess. Tubbo and Tommy even seemed to have a few forming bruises on their arms, Tommyâs hidden by the same green bandana he had worn in the portrait you saw in the dining hall.Â
âI donât think the princess is fond of the idea of there being whores at her wedding, Quackity,â Wilbur piped up upon seeing your rather deadpan face. The expression was similarly mimicked by Techno, who stood behind the four of them.
âPrincess? Oh- shit!â Quackity did a double take, before giving a hurried bow. Seemingly remembering exactly who he was talking to. Amusement at the almost embarrassed look on his face caused your lips to twitch up into a smile.
âRight. Yes. I would prefer there to not be women from the brothel at my wedding, Quackity.â You tested his name out carefully, and he slowly stood up from his bow. Tommy snickered from behind him, failing to hide his amusement at the fool he seemingly made for himself. He rubbed the back of his neck, laughing softly.
âI would also prefer to keep it that way,â Techno said as he stepped around the group, back towards you. He stood on your other side, leaving you in the middle of the two men. Which made you feel incredibly small.
âYou two are so boring, whatâs the fun without women?â Tommy groaned, trailing behind Wilbur and Tubbo as they wandered over as well.Â
âYouâll have fun anyways, Tommy. You always manage.â Tubbo barely looked at his friend, eagerly listening to Eret as he went over what he had been telling you once more. The group gathered around you, but you hardly minded right now.
âI was thinking, Tubbo and I could do some of the music. Weâll have other musicians too, but I think itâd be nice to be able to play. Itâs not every day your little brother gets married,â Wilbur talked, grinning over to Techno. Techno huffed, head shaking as the older affectionately threw out the term.
âOh, thatâd be wonderful!â You lit up with a smile, fully on board with the idea. Wilbur smiled back, seemingly fond of your approval.
âAnd,â he started, his grin turning almost mischievous, âI think it would be even better if our groom here plays a piece himself. You do play violin after all, Techno.â The words made your hopeful gaze turn towards Techno. He looked almost neutral, though his eyebrows were furrowed and a faint flush painted his cheeks.
âWell, I-â He grumbled, looking down to you and your soft smile. He gave an almost frustrated sigh, looking away. âFine. Iâll play something.â He huffed a little.
âPerfect! So weâve got rough plans for the ballroom decorations and the music.â You clapped your hands together, grinning.
âWhat the hell, Techno? You never play for anyone!â Tommy whined, eyes wide as he looked between you and him.
âIt is his wedding, Tommy. Itâs only fitting he plays,â Tubbo defended. Tommy, Tubbo, and Quackity bickered about Technoâs playing as Eret led that large group towards the veranda. Techno held your hand as you went down the stairs. Tommy made a mocking gag sound, and Quackity simply imitated Techno, holding his hand out for Tommy.
âQuackity, stop it, Iâm not holding your hand,â Tommy complained, nose wrinkling. You shook your head, eyes rolling. They really were like children.Â
You peered at the flowers as you walked to the gardens, looking for any you recognized. Eret spoke about the plans, and you absently nodded along. At least until he showed you where the ceremony would be held. âHere?â You murmured curiously, looking at the flowers. Your fingers ran over the petals, trying to note the flowers you did see. The easiest to identify was the roses- why was it always roses? Red bled into the white from the edges, and you smiled just slightly. They were pretty, most of the ones back home were either red, white, or yellow. Rarely hybrids. The only time you received a hybrid of one was from dream, but they were never red and white. Always red and yellow.
Curled near the roses stood a plant with broad green leaves and occasional clumps of pink flowers. It was faintly familiar, and you struggled to place it. You remembered Dream stating that they werenât the best flower, trying his best to remove it from the gardens. You had no idea why, though, as it seemed to be doing just fine here. A hand grabbed yours as you went to run your fingers along the leaves, tugging it away.
âCareful,â Techno mumbled. He dropped your hand, lifting the leaves carefully. Behind them was a thick branch, coated in thorns. You had barely noticed them, stretching out about an inch. You had been so focused on the flowers.
âThank you,â you murmured, turning back towards Eret with a soft smile. âThisâll do wonderful. Whatâs next?â
âThatâs most of the basic stuff for decoration at the moment. I think Nihachu wanted to discuss catering? I have to get some stuff together for your dress, but I can come find you when I have,â Eret explained. You nodded, seemingly content with the idea.
âDo we have to come along?â Tommy groaned loudly, clearly growing bored with all of the proceedings. You laughed, head shaking.
âYou never had to, Tommy. I think the only people obligated are Techno and I.â You shrugged, letting the group move back towards the castle.
âCome on then, Tubbo. Letâs get out of here, this is so damn boring.â The brunette looked towards you as if for confirmation, and you simply waved your hand. You didnât expect them to truly tag along for too long. Especially Tommy, he didnât seem the patient type to deal with planning.
âIâll come check in later!â Tubbo tried to offer as Tommy, and Quackity, practically dragged him off. For what, you had no idea, but you didnât want to ask questions. This thinned out the large group, allowing you to let out a soft breath. It was less crowded, which you definitely appreciated.
âNihachu said sheâd be in the dining hall with some samples of food for you to try,â Wilbur spoke, pausing at the top of the veranda. He watched Techno help you up, Eret slipping away from the three of you to go do what he needed.
âSounds good with me,â You hummed. This might be one of the longer parts of the day, but you didnât mind. Food was important, especially for a wedding. Even if it was stunning with beautiful music, you knew it would feel empty without proper food. As most celebrations would. Inside the dining hall was the same woman Wilbur was with the day prior, fussing over various plates on the table.
âNihachu!â Wilbur called, causing the blonde to look up. She grinned up at him, practically bounding over to him to give him a hug.Â
âStaying to taste the food?â She asked, focusing on him for a few moments.
âIâd never miss an excuse to eat it outside of meals.â He ruffled her hair, making her wrinkle her nose. She turned towards you and Techno, grin softening to a smile as she curtseyed slightly.Â
âIâm Nihachu, itâs so nice to finally meet you,â She greeted warmly. You couldnât help but return the smile, almost relieved to see another woman among the boys you seemed constantly surrounded by.
âYou too. Itâs a blessing to have someone who isnât a prince to deal with.â
âHey!â Wilbur gasped in offense, echoed by Technoâs quiet âHeh?â of confusion. Nihachu only laughed, covering her mouth with a hand.
âCome on, thereâs lots to try and discuss. Everything can be mixed and matched, as well. We have plenty of time between now and the wedding to refine everything.â She motioned the three of you towards the table, pointing to various dishes and explaining them to you. Some of them were unbelievably good, and you made sure to point that out. She seemed pleased with the praise each time, making note to include whatever you praised into the catering.
As she pointed to one of the dishes, you noted the ring on her finger, piquing your interest. âAre you married?â You asked without much thought, motioning to the simple band. Nihachu glanced to the ring, cheeks reddening slightly.
âOh-! No, not yet, at least. Itâs a ring my girlfriend gave me to promise she only had good intentions,â She murmured in embarrassment. Wilbur laughed beside her, trying and failing to hide the fact. She pushed at him slightly, trying to bring the focus back to the food instead.Â
After a couple of hours of tasting and discussing, it was finally finished. She seemed content with the feedback, promising she would make sure everything was perfect. She actually seemed quite ecstatic to have the job she did. She simply took the paper she made her notes on, running off towards the kitchens once more.
âRight, all thatâs left is the dress. Eret is setting up in one of the spare rooms,â Wilbur informed, motioning towards the exit. âIâm going to help Nihachu clear this.â You looked on in amusement as Wilbur began picking up plates, finding it hilarious that a prince was taking care of dirty dishes. All the same, you didnât say anything and left the room with Techno. He was quiet as he led you towards the spare rooms, eyebrows furrowed.
âDo you need me to help with the dress?â He murmured, not exactly looking at you as he hovered outside the door. You blinked a little, processing the information. He didnât want to help? Then you realized you were probably getting measurements taken, and who knew what else. Was he too embarrassed to help?
âI should be fine. Why donât you go talk to your father about getting Tubbo a room here? Get him away from Schlatt,â you offered an alternative with a smile. A look of relief flooded his eyes, and he nodded.
âIâll come get you in a while,â He informed, watching as you slid into the room. Eret smiled at you from where he was hovering over various fabrics, motioning you towards the middle of the room.
âI see everyone decided to abandon you,â he joked, picking up a strip of paper and walking towards you. All too familiar with the process that was about to happen, you lifted your arms. Eret took the paper, placing it against your arm and marking it.
âWilbur decided to stick with Nihachu, and Techno really was trying to find a reason to not come in here,â You laughed, watching as Eret moved around, taking various measurements and marking them onto the strip he was using.
âThat sounds like him. You send him off?â He leaned down, wrapping the strip around your waist snuggly.
âTold him to talk to his father about getting Tubbo one of the spare rooms in the castle, the boys mentioned it yesterday and I see why.â
âSchlatt is questionable at best. It would do Tubbo good to get away from him. I need to measure your legs,â He murmured, eyebrows furrowing. His cheeks painted pink, and he seemed to have only just realized what it entailed.
âItâs just measurements, Eret. Itâs not scandalous,â you muttered reassuringly. You shifted the skirts of your dress as needed. Eret fell silent, seemingly embarrassed as he crouched in front of you to do the needed measurements on your legs. You tried your best to not laugh at how flustered he seemed, keeping any comments to yourself.
âRight, okay,â he cleared his throat, standing up and walking back towards the fabrics. You followed, peering over his shoulder. âIs this everything you were hoping for?â
âItâs⌠not, no. I never really planned to have a wedding with the prince of another kingdom, let alone one who was to become king. I thought Iâd marry a noble in my own kingdom and live out my life there,â You explained. Eret picked up one of the white fabrics, holding it against your body and examining it. For what, exactly, you werenât sure. Still, you let him do as he needed.
âThat makes sense. Are you disappointed with this, though?â He seemed to want to talk, but you werenât entirely against it. Not many people had cared to ask you how you felt about this whole thing.Â
âNo, not at all. It presents options I was never granted back home.â Eret held up a delicate lace, layering it over a fabric to hold against you.
âGood. Hopefully everything turns out as you want it to. I think that should be all now? Thereâs not too much to be done until the dress is actually made,â He murmured, setting the fabrics down.
âPerfect, just call on me whenever you need me to check in or anything.â You beamed, only glancing at the fabrics as he continued to shift through them. You truly trusted him on whatever he was deciding to make. Everyone here seemed competent enough, though it made you feel a little useless. You supposed all you could do truly was offer feedback, which they seemed content with.Â
Techno was leaned against a wall outside the room, glancing up when you opened the door. You smiled at him, and he simply pushed off the wall, motioning towards where your rooms were. âGet changed, put on pants,â He said flatly, making you arch an eyebrow at him.
âWhat for, exactly?â You questioned, following him all the same.
âUnless you want to learn to fight in a dress.â He glanced at you, eyebrows raised in question. Your stomach flipped in excitement, and you desperately suppressed the urge to run to your room.
âI think pants would be better for that,â you laughed, nerves leaking through the sound. Finally, you were going to learn to fight. Next Chapter | >

Hiya there!!!! Could i maybe please have some headcanons about the characters you write for being in love with a very domestic/ cottagecore/ disney-princess-loving sweet girl who works at a daycare (with babies) ?
Im sorry if that didnt make much sense im french but i love your writing!!! Have an amazing day!! đ
Your patience is extraordinary. Iâm so sorry this took so long, and Iâm additionally sorry that I couldnât provide more characters for this. Between it beginning to feel repetitive and just having a mental block on it, which has been practically consuming my ability to write, Iâm afraid I was only able to give you five characters, but hopefully the accidental mini stories they turned into makes up for that!
Under the cut you will find headcanons or miniature fics tbh for Din Djarin, Ezra, Frankie Morales, Javier PeĂąa and Poe Dameron
Din Djarin
Looking after Grogu is Dinâs priority. So, when he sees his adoptive son clinging to your leg after he leaves him at the small daycare on Nevarro, utterly enraptured in your every movement as you finish putting away the colourful pencils the children had been playing with, well, heâs intrigued.
When Grogu is reluctant to leave the planet, putting on a fuss as he flies away, well, heâs fascinated.
Plenty of people got along with the little green baby, and it seemed people fell for his big bug eyes everywhere they went. But he hadnât seen the child so enraptured before⌠It was almost the same kind of adoration he seemed to throw towards Din.
Weeks pass before heâs landing back in Nevarro, ready to take on another job, and heâs almost forgotten about you. But the way Grogu perks up at the familiar surroundings is an instant reminder.
He hadnât even intended to leave the kid at the daycare this time, it was only meant to be a short trip after all, but who could say ânoâ to those pleading eyes?
The dayâs half over when he knocks on the door. Children of all species are spread about the room, and thereâs an air of chaos to the scene, but as you meet his gaze through that vizor that keeps him shielded from the rest of the room, he finally understands the absolute sense of calm you exude.
Heâs frozen.
Your smile cuts through him, itâs gentle and soft and reassuring and everything he didnât know heâd been missing for so many years now.
He stutters, genuinely stutters when he hands Grogu over, asking if he can spend the rest of the day with the other children. And if you notice, well, youâre not about to mention it just yet.
Heâs making more trips to Nevarro, even he refuses to acknowledge why. The kid needs to socialise more, jobs from Karga are smarter, itâs good to keep in contact with the Cara, to know what the rebellion is up to⌠Excuses seem to pile up upon one another. Of course it couldnât have anything to do with the fact that every time he sees your smile directed at him, every time he watches the way you play with Grogu, the world seems a little lighter.
A dangerous mission is what changes things.
He knows itâll bring good credits, and provide more safety for the kid in the long run, but bringing him along for the ride is too risky, and itâs exactly what the enemy would be expecting. So he asks if youâll look after him, just for a few days.
Of course, youâre more than happy to take the little green menace, but itâs the way you tell him to be careful, the way he can almost see genuine worry in your gaze as you utter words of care that heâs so damn unused to that has him struck once more.
The sight of you there, looking at him with such a gentle look, with his kid in your arms, well, it distracts him more than heâd care to admit.
So when he comes back to Nevarro, to your house of all things, heâs a little worse for wear, and heâs certainly not expecting the way you usher him in, or the way you look after him. Suddenly, leaving Nevarro at all seems like the stupidest decision possible, when youâre there in your humble house that still screams home more than anything he can remember.
He stays for days, youâre insistent that he heal properly and take the time to rest before he goes rushing back into the universe. And itâs the most relaxed heâs ever felt.
Ezra
After his time in The Green, Ezra is certain of one thing, heâs had enough of that damn colour.
Thereâs only so long you can spend surrounded by shades of green before it starts to haunt you, and even the most poetic of people lose any sense of beauty they once found in it.
But then there was you.
You, who lived a life so far removed from what he had experienced, that the flowery poetics seemed to just flow from him once more.
His insecurities after losing his arm seemed to lessen in your presence, caught up in the whirlwind that was you.
Laughter and joy seemed to fill the days, and sometimes heâd even help you with your work simply to enjoy the bubble of joy you seemed to exude, to embrace every moment of happiness that he was lucky enough to experience.
Colours seemed brighter, and filled with a range he had only hoped to see, when you were around. And those poems he had loved so dearly were not just a distant dream, they were tangible and real.
Softness and beauty coloured his days once more, and his heart was full.
Even green seemed more beautiful now.
Frankie Morales
In all honesty? Heâs terrified. Youâre his daughterâs daycare worker and it doesnât matter that you make him smile, make those damn butterflies fill his chest in a way he hasnât felt since he was an awkward teenager. It doesnât matter that your smile is so damn captivating that it has him smiling goofily to himself the whole damn drive to work after he drops his daughter off with you.
It doesnât matter because it canât. He wonât interfere with your work and he certainly wonât be that creep who asks you out when you look after his daughter, no, nope, absolutely not.
But then, a year later, and his daughter is off to preschool, and yeah, ok, heâs a bit of a wreck as he shops for school supplies, but suddenly youâre there. It hasnât been long at all, and yet he canât help but think how much he has missed that smile.
Itâs so much harder to explain to his little girl that, despite the chance encounter, you wonât be a part of her life anymore, especially when sheâs so darn excited to see you, and so he stumbles, he struggles and glances to you for help and, well, the help you give has him even more lost for words.
You suggest lunch, on the first weekend after sheâs started school. Just Frankie, her and you, all meeting at a park where his daughter can tell you all about âbig schoolâ.
Heâs silent so long that you worry youâve overstepped, and just as youâre about to ramble off some excuse in a desperate attempt to backtrack, he offers you the most beaming smile youâve ever seen.
Well, your not so little crush was doomed, and so was your heart. But after lunch that soon turned into a weekly affair, you soon came to realise, your heart was in very safe hands.
Javier PeĂąa
Iâm not going to lie, at first Javier is skeptical to say the least. Heâs seen chaos and pain and suffering for so long, that seeing someone so damn gentle? Yeah, heâs wondering what your game is. But then it becomes something else, it becomes a fascination. You seem sincere in your softness, and he finds himself smiling back at you in an instant, before he can even question it.
So, skepticism turns to curiosity. Are you just naive to the horrors of the world? Are you really that sheltered that you believe what the fairytales told you the world would be? He has to know, even if heâs cursing himself the whole damn way.
Heâs spending more time with you to figure you out, thatâs what he tells himself. Of course, itâs obvious to everyone else the change that you bring. His shoulders are less tense, heâs not bitting peopleâs heads off at work, hell, heâs smiling more.
Itâs different to what heâs used to. Itâs softer, and slower, and heâs reluctant as hell, but things just seem to happen.
Youâre at his place as often as your own. Youâre sharing movies with him that heâs never even considered seeing before, youâre sharing your lives with one another, and there hasnât been a single date so far.
Youâre everything heâs fighting to protect, before he can even acknowledge his own feelings for you. But as oblivious as Javier can be to these things, youâre not. You know the stories, the tales of love that seemed to pass him by. Youâre patient as he navigates his way through his feelings.
Itâs a random moment in time, really. Youâre on his couch, talking about the children you work with, itâs just another day. But itâs everything to him. Itâs the moment he realises youâre his all, that being right there, in that moment, listening to you talk about children you clearly adore, children that arenât even your own, itâs all heâs ever needed, and all he ever wants.
The progression from that odd friendship to something more is surprisingly smooth.
Of course, heâs bound to stumble along the way, itâs so far from what heâs used to that heâs terrified half the time of stuffing up to a point of no return. But itâs genuine, itâs real, and you can both simply be yourselves; even if he does tease you a little about the âchildishâ decor that starts to fill the apartment when you finally move in.
Poe Dameron
It was an accident, the first time Poe quite literally ran into you. BB-8 assured him that it would be faster to get to his ship through the path he had never ventured before as he rushed to fly out for a sudden mission, and he was right. What the little droid had failed to mention, however, was that said path ran directly through the resistanceâs schooling area.
It was a small group of rooms, with few children of resistance members actually living on base, but it was something so downright shocking that it had him stumbling in shock as he glanced about at the colourful finger paintings and bright array of plants that he didnât even notice the way the group of preschoolers stared up at him in awe, or, for that matter, the fact that you were standing before him... until you werenât. The force of his sprint landed you on the floor with nothing but a surprised âooft!â coming from your lips, and an echoing round of shocked and anxious gasps from your students.
After an awkward round of apologising, and continuing to call out long after he had checked you were alright and helped you up, he was off, making his way once more, the sound of âsorry!â fading away as he drifted further down the corridors.
One chance meeting suddenly turned into more. It seemed wherever he turned, there you were. Grabbing a late meal at the same time, having your med-checks one after the other⌠it was as if fate itself had decided the two of you simply had to interact.
You filled his mind, someone so normal amongst the chaos of war. And while he may not have realised it, he began to seek you out.
Chatting with your kids about flying, bringing back interesting plants he saw on his adventures, there was always a reason to see you, after-all, Poe Dameron was the King of Excuses.
But you brought him a sense of hope and home, something he had missed for far too long, and he wasnât about to give that up anytime soon.

Notes: I was planning for this to be wayyy more angsty, but I just couldnât bear to put poor Din through any more hurt. I hope you enjoy! Donât forget to comment if you have a suggestion or an idea.Â
Pt. 2
It seems like only a moment ago Din disappeared down the mountain to assist Fennec. You grab a hold of the child, thanking the stars that he has finally emerged from his trance-like state, and cradle him gently as you check over his vitals to ensure he is not injured.Â
Once the sound of blaster fire begins to fade, you prepare to make the trek down the mountainside as well. It looks as if the remaining stormtroopers are in full retreat, their transports blasting off from the surface in a hurry. A final explosion-wait, was that a rocket? did Din have a rocket launcher and not tell you?-wipes the ships out of the sky, and you let out a sigh of relief. Although it would be best to leave the planet as quickly as possible, you canât resist enjoying the view for a moment. Itâs been a long time since you or Mando have been able to take a break. There is always a new danger, a new threat, that compromises the safety of your small group.Â
A red laser bolt screams past your ear, slicing through your peripheral vision like an omen of death. You can only stand there, helpless, as you witness the bolt strike the motionless Razor Crest. The ship that has served as your home for months is suddenly reduced to a smoking crater of ash. There is a good chance that youâre in shock, and by the time you notice the dark troopers descending on your position itâs too late. Before you can draw your blaster, a droid sweeps your feet out from beneath you and you fall to the unforgiving ground, cursing as stones pierce into the skin of your back.Â
Mando is still running up the mountain side when he notices your body crumple to the ground, and heâs overtaken by blind rage, adrenaline pumping through his veins as he wills himself to move faster. Blaster shots ring out in the silence and his whole body seizes up in pain when he hears your screams.Â
You grit your teeth as you fight the pain flooding your body. Thereâs already blood flowing from the blaster shot in your chest and the one in your left leg, but you refuse to give in to the pain. Your fingers close around the childâs robe, struggling to secure their hold as a droid tears him from your arms. Biting back another cry of pain, you will yourself to stand, only to come face to face with the barrel of a wrist-mounted blaster.Â
It would have been your last breath if Mando hadnât arrived at that exact moment. The droid standing over you wirrs in distress as a searing laser bolt catches it in the throat. With every last ounce of strength you crane your neck towards the direction of the blast, vision swimming as you register the presence of a familiar beskar-clad figure.Â
~~
Din curses his poor timing as he rushes towards your prone figure. One finger is already bare, falling to your neck to check for a pulse even as the digits of his other hand connect with his helmet to activate long-range vision. The child is too far gone, heâll never be able to reach him even if he retrieves his jetpack. His ship is nothing but a pile of ashes, the medical equipment necessary to assist with your condition lost along with the Crest. For just a second Din allows himself to feel despair, loss, anger...love. A tear rolls down his cheek, concealed beneath the beskar that shields the world from his emotions.Â
What is a man with nothing left to fight for?
In the next second he is back to his impassive, stoic self. He needs a plan. Fennec, whereâs FennecâŚ
âTheyâve got the baby, donât let them get away.â Sheâs speaking into her comm.
âAffirmative, I have a lock.â Fett answers.
Din can feel his heart seize, threatening to break through its emotional barriers again. He canât suffer another loss. âStop him, I donât want the child hurt.â
She gives him a terse nod. âAbort pursuit, disengage, do not harm the child.â
âCopy, Iâll do a loose follow, see where theyâre headed.â A pause. âTheyâre back.â Fettâs tone is clouded in disbelief.Â
âWho?â Fennec questions, but Din already knows the answer.
âThe Empire, theyâre back.â
âThat canât be, the outer rim is under the jurisdiction of the New Republic.â
âThis isnât a spice dream. I can see the imperial cruiser with my own eyes. Heading down.â
A ship, Fett has a ship. âTell him to hurry, my companion might not make it without immediate medical attention.â Din demands, realizing heâs taking liberties, but itâs your life on the line damnit.
âThe girlâs been injured, she needs medical attention.â Fennec relays.
âCopy that. Iâll prepare the med bay.âÂ
Din breathes a sigh of relief, perhaps this man really is a true Mandalorian. He brushes several stray hairs out of your face, grounding himself for a moment before he checks how bad your wounds are. He chokes on a breath when he lifts your duraweave tunic up slightly. There is a fist sized hole in your abdomen, and although heâs treated wounds far worse during his career as a bounty hunter, the sight of the wound of your body has him feeling light headed and nauseous. Heâs spitting curses under his breath as he moves to check the wound on your thigh. Itâs not much better off.Â
Shit.
Fett better have some damn good medical supplies on his ship, because there is no way Din is going to allow you to be patched together with machinery like the ex-mercenary currently standing to his left.Â
As gently as he can manage, he slides an arm underneath your torso, desperately trying to ignore the way your blood coats his vambrace and the duraweave cloth beneath it. His other arm slides underneath your legs, settling into the bend between your thigh and calf. As gently as Din can manage, he lifts you from the ground, panicking when your head lolls backwards at an awkward angle. He feels awkward, out of place, and completely unequipped to be handling a situation like this. Fennec must decide to have pity on his poor soul because she steps over to him with a knowing glance.Â
âI know youâre a damn good fighter, but I canât help but notice that youâre not accustomed to holding a woman in your arms.â
Itâs true, and he shouldnât feel embarrassed, but it still makes him flush red underneath the helmet.Â
âMay I?â She gestures towards your still form.
A possessive growl rises in his throat at the thought of Fennec carrying you instead of him.Â
âRelax Mando, Iâm just going to adjust her positioning.âÂ
Sheâs muttering under her breath, low enough that not even the microphones within his helmet can detect the syllables, but he does catch her mumble âwhat a couple of lovesick foolsâ. The words have his face erupting into flames once again.Â
Din stills pins her with a glare as she reaches for your head, tilting it up so that you can rest your cheek against his arm, right below his left pauldron. Then she takes a hold of your left arm, which currently hovers in the air, and sets it on your abdomen.
âThere, Iâm sure she is much more comfortable now.â Fennec finishes.Â
Din just nods, still half-heartedly glaring at her from beneath the helmet.Â
âLetâs go, Iâm sure Fett has landed already.â
He nods again, gesturing for her to lead the way. His gaze falls to you and he canât help but notice that your face is twisted in discomfort. Thatâs the last thing he wants right now.
âAre you certain she is comfortable?â
âMando, stop fussing, women love to be held. Itâs probably your stiff posture thatâs making her uncomfortable.â
He feels like growling at her retreating figure, but resists the temptation. Instead, he drops his visor back towards your face, scrabbling for something-anything-that will help you feel more comfortable.Â
âItâs alright, Iâm here ner verdâika. (My little warrior) You can rest, Iâve got you. Donât worry about the kid, weâll get him back, I promise.â
Maybe itâs coincidence, but the moment he finishes speaking you let out a breathy sigh, the frown on your face relaxing into a neutral expression as you nuzzle further into his shoulder.Â
~~
You wake up later in an unfamiliar location, startling yourself into full consciousness as you try to take in the surroundings. Tears sting at your eyes and you bite back a sob. The Crest, your home, itâs gone.Â
âI heard you had a rough day.â
Your gaze snaps forward towards the doorway, and you feel like crying all over again. Cara, your lifelong friend, is propped up against the doorframe. Youâre not usually one for sentiment, but you open your arms as wide as you can manage, meeting her eyes as you plead for a hug. She rushes towards you, wrapping you up in an embrace so tight that you think she might crack a rib.Â
âYou had us worried for a while. Itâs been a few days.â
A few...A few days. A choked out âhuh?â is the only response you can manage with her arms crushing your frame.Â
âSorry.â She pulls back, releasing you from her grasp. What the kriff, is she wiping a tear from her eye? âYou had us worried. Your condition was so poor that you needed a blood transfusion.â
âWhat? Thatâs impossible. The chances of finding someone with my blood type within 100 parsecs are slim to none.âÂ
âWellâŚâÂ
Why is she hesitating?Â
âTurns out you and I have the same blood type.âÂ
Kriffing hell! Your heart jumps into your throat. There have only been a handful of times where Din has made a dramatic entrance without practically frightening you into cardiac arrest. This is not one of them. A quick glance around the remainder of the room reveals the Mandalorian seated in a booth in the far corner.Â
âYou frightened me half to death Mando!â Thereâs a spike of surprise-not your own-that tickles at the back of your brain, and the feeling leaves you a little tense.Â
âWell thatâs not a very nice way to greet your saviour.â
âWhat?â You inquire.Â
Mando grunts at you, impassive as always. The visor of his helmet betrays none of his feelings. âI said, you and I have the same blood type.â
Beneath the helmet heâs a little worried, youâve never asked him to repeat himself. Donât panic, he instructs himself. Itâs probably just because youâre still a little out of it after the anti-pain stim you received. Thatâs all. He decides to jump straight into business before his worries get too far out of hand.Â
âWeâre going after the kid.â
You nod in response, you figured as much. A fuzzy memory plays out in the back of your mind like a worn out holotape, âdonât worry...weâll get him back...promise.â
âWhatâs the plan?â You ask, looking to Cara.Â
âThe kid is on Moff Gideonâs cruiser. We need to acquire the coordinates for his position.â
âOk, whatever you need, I can do it.â
âI know,â she shoots you a grateful glance, âbut we are going to need imperial help, ex-imperial help, to be specific. Weâre on our way to pick up a New Republic prisoner who is serving a sentence in the Karthon Chop Fields. You might remember him, Migs Mayfeld.â
âOh, I remember him.â Specifically, you remember wanting to dropkick him into the nearest star system for being such an arrogant bastard. âWhen do we leave?â
âAs soon as you get your ass out of bed and get dressed.âÂ
You sputter indignantly, hurtling the nearest object in sight-which happens to be a roll of bandages-at her head. She just laughs at you as she sidesteps the projectile and darts out of the room.Â
Huh, thereâs that tickle in the back of your brain again. Annoyed, you scratch at your head for a second, puzzled when the sensation doesnât go away. You decide to opt for a different tactic, concentrating on the feeling until it becomes a little clearer. Itâs a sound you realize, the sound of...laughter?Â
Wait just a minute. Why that no good, beskar wearing nerf herder! You swing your head around, so quickly that you can hear the bones of your spine crackle in protest, and pin him with a deadly glare. Only to realize heâs not even looking at you. In fact, heâs in the process of polishing his blaster.Â
You shake your head, baffled. You must be imagining things. A moment later Mando re-assembles his blaster with a practiced ease, twirls it lightly in his hand, and then holsters it as he stands.Â
âIâll leave you to it.âÂ
Then he too is stepping out the door with a swish of his cape.Â
âOh, and I think youâre gonna like Fettâs ship.âÂ
By the time you open your mouth to respond heâs already gone.Â
~~
âSo whatâs your story? Howâd you and the big guy meet?âÂ
You glance up, hoping to catch Caraâs gaze, an unspoken question radiating across your face. She nods her head subtly in silent confirmation.Â
âCara and I were both New Republic shocktroopers. We grew up together, enlisted together, fought together, eventually went into early retirement together. (The last part was only mostly true, but Fennec didnât need to know that). Thatâs how we ended up on Sorgan, where we met the Mandalorian. He enlisted our help in mopping up a group of raiders for a job heâd taken on. After our payment we were planning to go our separate ways, but the kid formed quite an attachment to me, so I decided to tag along with him and Mando for a bit. At the time, neither of us understood why the kid was so attached. Iâm not very good with children anyways.â
Fennec nods her head as you continue.
âWell apparently, according to this Jedi that we came across a couple weeks ago, I have a connection to some magical force, similar to the child. Thatâs what drew him to me."
âHuh, interesting.âÂ
âI know, right.âÂ
Hereâs the thing though. What you hesitate to tell Fennec is that Ahsoka also informed you that you possessed a special gift as a result of your connection to the Force. Although your gift had not yet presented itself, she was certain that it would become apparent in your near future.
Sure enough, after the struggle on Tython and the resulting blood transfusion, you have started to hear voices in your head. You are sure that they are thoughts, since they are often disjointed and oddly phrased. And, maybe youâre crazy, but the voices sound oddly similar to the modulated voice of your beskar-clad companion.
For example, if you concentrate really hard right now you can hear noise, not like that of an engine (because youâre on a ship), but that of a conversation. Right now the voices are chattering about...ammunition charges? You snort in amusement. That sounds like something Din would be thinking about. Fennec gives you a funny look, but you just play it off, saying that the filtered air in the ship was irritating your airway.Â
It makes you curious though, is it possible that he may be able to sense your thoughts as well? If you concentrate really hard on one single idea, will he notice? Itâs definitely worth a try, and youâre really bored right now. Hmmm, what about a...jetpack. Ok, no response from Din. What about...beskar. Oh, thatâs a good idea! After five whole minutes of thinking solely about the metal there is still no response from Din. Ugh, fine. Your obviously imagining things. Typical.Â
âWhat are you doing?â A voice echoes.
You let out a squeak, quickly cover it up as a cough, and then glare at the Mandalorian seated across from you. This time heâs looking right at you.Â
Fine, two can play at this game. You keep a straight face and then will your voice to travel across the space between you and into his mind. âWhat are you doing?â
He just stares at you and you think maybe you are still imagining things.Â
âSigh.â
Oh no he did not. He did not just...just sigh at you through his mind! Why that littleâŚ
âRelax, youâre jumpy. And bored.âÂ
If looks could kill, he would be a pile of sizzling beskar right now. âItâs not my fault youâre boring.â You huff back. And without warning heâs laughing at you through the bond. Full-hearted, chest-rattling laughter, but without the âchest rattlingâ you note dryly, as you glare even harder.Â
âSo that was you laughing at me earlier today! You are in so much trouble Din. Just wait until we land, weâre gonna fight this out like warriors and Iâm gonna kick your ass.â That shuts him up and you are feeling quite smug about your comeback, basking in your victory for the space of a few seconds until something else starts tickling at your brain.Â
Itâs another voice, one that is slowly growing louder, but it seems...guarded. You nudge harder, eager to solve the mystery, and the answer becomes a little clearer. Itâs a feeling, you realize, a powerful feeling. As you weave closer and closer, Dinâs other thoughts attempt to sidetrack you, to distract you from your self-proclaimed mission. Just a little closer...
You donât even notice that Dinâs physical body has tensed up, his hands balling into fists, telltale signs of his nerves. More thoughts whiz by you, trying to knock you off your narrow path, but youâre persistent as you trudge forward. The feeling abruptly smacks into you like the rays of a thousand suns, blinding you, and youâre gasping, suddenly ashamed of your curiosity.Â
âWeâre here.â Fettâs voice rings through the hull, breaking your concentration for only a second, and you feel Din forcefully throw you out of his mind. Heâs out of his seat in a second, making a beeline for the cockpit without throwing so much as a glance your way. Youâre left to wallow in your seat as Cara and Fennec shoot you questioning glances, but you just shrug.
âI donât know whatâs gotten into him.â You offer, choosing not to elaborate on what just took place. But your blood boils. You know exactly what happened. You just ripped away the most important barrier Mando possessed. The one that guarded his heart.Â
The feeling you laid bare?Â
Affection.Â
You donât even leave your seat as the others step outside to recruit Mayfeld. âJust wait until we land, weâre gonna fight this out like warriors and Iâm gonna kick your ass.â You spoke those words to Din only moments ago. Now, after what youâve done, you donât think youâll ever be able to look him in the face again, much less challenge him to a sparring match.Â
Itâs not until everyone but Din and Mayfeld re-enter the hull that you realize there are only four seats in the hold. You curse your bad luck, thereâs no way you are gonna share a seat with any one of these clowns. Oh sweet springs of Tabet, if you remember correctly thereâs an extra seat in the cockpit. Before anyone can question your behavior, youâre rushing towards the ladder that Fett is still scaling. With a little luck, he wonât question your presence, and you might even be able to learn a few maneuvers.Â
~~
Din sucks in a breath as he enters the hold once again, just in time to catch a glimpse of your back as you disappear into the cockpit along with Fett. He scowls, if Fett wasnât such a good man, Din would probably be jealous. He takes his seat once again, except this time instead of looking up and being rewarded with your face, heâs greeted with Mayfeldâs ugly mug. Thereâs no way this day could get any worse.Â
It is only after everyone takes a seat that he remembers there are only four chairs in the hold. He curses himself over and over. He had already factored that into his original plan. The original idea was to invite you to share his seat with him after Mayfeld joined the crew. Then he would be able to bask in your closeness, your liveliness, for just a short time before his mind began to dissect the details of the mission.
He knows he hurt you earlier, unintentional as it may have been. He hadnât meant to throw you out of his thoughts so quickly, but you scared him. If you had been allowed to peer into his emotions for just one more millisecond you might have seen his most closely guarded thoughts, the ones that keep him lying awake at night.Â
Within the confines of his mind he often pictures you and him, the kid, and sometimes children of your own. In those fantasies he doesnât hunt anymore, learns instead how to be a father and a husband, a family man. The intensity of his feelings frustrate him, and rightfully so. As a hunter and a Mandalorian, any emotion he feels can easily be turned into a deadly weapon. This situation involving the kid is a perfect example of how quickly his affection can twist into desperation.
~~
âIâll go.âÂ
Those two words are all it takes for you to know that Din is absolutely desperate. Mayfeld blathers on, ridiculing Mando again, so you just shut his voice out.Â
âMando, I can go.â You speak up, fuming a little at the thought that he hasnât yet offered you the mission.Â
âNo, itâs too dangerous for you.â He doesnât even look at you properly, gazing instead towards the juggernaut that passes.
You pin the side of his helmet with a glare. Not wanting to start a scene in front of the others, you dare to brush delicately against his thoughts, and you want to cry in relief when he immediately letâs you in.Â
âDin, I can go. Let me have this mission.â
âNo, you barely made it out alive last time. Besides, the New Republic will recognize you.â
âI donât care about the New Republic, itâs not like I currently hold a position of importance like Cara. Iâll be fine.â
âNo, youâre not going. You havenât even fully recovered, and there is no way youâre going if youâre not 100% combat ready.â
âYou of all people should know better than to tell me what I can and cannot do. I will not, I repeat, I will not let you go in there and risk your Creed when I am perfectly capable of taking this mission!â
âMy decision is final.âÂ
Then for the second time that day, he shuts you out.Â
âYouâre not going alone. Iâm coming with you, but I wonât be showing my face.â Din announces aloud to the rest of your crewmates.Â
You growl under your breath, furious with his decision. You want to scream at him, ask him what exactly he is thinking, but you know you canât. You have never been able to change his mind. Instead, you resign yourself to your allotted role, begging the stars that nothing goes wrong even though you know that is a fool's hope.Â
Once Mayfeld and Din are seated within the juggernaut, you and Boba prepare to split off from Fennec and Cara.
âWeâll head back to the ship while you two make your way to the ridge.â Boba Fett speaks up as he shoulders the canvas bag holding Dinâs armor.
âAlright. Iâll inform you on when to begin your run.â Fennec responds.Â
You exchange a glance with Cara, then move to follow Fett through the forest. As you trudge back to the ship alongside Boba, numerous questions spring to mind.Â
âFett, you are a Mandalorian right?â
âYou could say that.â
âWhy is it that you can remove your helmet and go by your real name, but Mando canât?â
âHow do you know that Boba Fett is my real name?â He questions.
Well that shuts you up.
He continues on as if expecting that response. âMandalore has a complicated history. Often the very people who call themselves Mandalorian are not even born on the planet itself. My ancestors believed that any man, woman, boy, or girl could imbue the spirit of a Mandalorian warrior, it didnât matter who they were or where they were born. From what I can gather, your friend was not born on Mandalore either.â
âWell, I wouldnât really call him a friend, but yes thatâs true, he mentioned it once. That still doesnât explain the helmet thing though.â You gesture to your face as you finish your sentence.
He takes a deep breath and pinches the bridge of his nose, as if heâs dealing with an overly inquisitive toddler. âThe helmet thing is harder to explain.â A beat of silence passes. âMandalorians live in clans, as groups of warriors that are bound together by a common name and a central ruler. The clans all support different beliefs, or Creeds, as they call them. The beliefs of one clan may be wildly different from that of another clan.â
That makes sense. There is a long tick of silence, and youâre certain he is finished so you ask the one remaining question that sits at the tip of your tongue.Â
âWhat clan do you belong to?â
He obviously doesnât expect that question. Surprise envelops his features, then it morphs into fondness. âI belong to Clan Fett.â Another pause. âWhy, would you like to join?â Itâs accompanied with a head tilt and a humorous tone.Â
You just laugh. âI donât know if I will qualify.â Itâs freeing to let some humour slip into your tone after your recent argument with Din.
âWell, it seems like you already forgot the history lesson.â He chastises you, but heâs still smiling. âNow, letâs prepare to pick up these friends of yours.â He adds, as the ship becomes visible in the distance.
~~
Ending Notes: Originally this part was going to be much longer, but I made some changes to my original plot. I had also planned to end it on a more angsty note, but letâs be real, we want to avoid angst as much as possible. Part 2 is already written and will be coming soon, give me a follow if you donât want to miss it!

The Stoneâs Toll - Chapter Five
Read on AO3
Claire sat nursing her glass of expensive cognac. Neither of them initiated a conversation, preferring silence to the inevitable argument that would ensue.Â
It was Christmas Eve when she returned. Little over a month and a half in that soul leeching ward. Frank had decorated the house with holly, and ivy, and even some sprigs of mistletoe in an attempt for some normalcy.Â
âClaire, Iâm sorry for what they did to you. I was angry at you. You not only chose to leave me once but twice over. Youâd rather die than feel my touch. I wanted to feel anything but utter despair. Iâm sorry it has taken me so long to return you home.â She offered no response.Â
âDo you have any idea just how difficult these last few months- past few years have been for me Claire? How utterly exhausting it has been to deal with your loss and then now this? I donât wish to fight you on any of this. Let us have a civilised conversation please.â Â
âHow hard itâs been for you!â Her mouth hung open in shock. âYou think these past few months have just been a fucking picnic for me!â She stood in her anger and seethed at the fireplace, back turned from her husband.Â
âOf course not, but did you ever stop to consider how Iâve felt about anything?âÂ
âDid you ever consider my feelings when you were sticking your cock into one of your students?! God, did you give me one of their diseases?â Shock plastered over his face. âOh donât act so surprised, Iâve smelt the perfume and all those long nights at your âofficeâ.â
âClaire, be reasonable. Youâve only let me touch you once, and that was before I was intimate with anyone else. Not all of us are such mendacious sluts.âÂ
âOh and Iâm sure you were an exemplary student of abstinence while I was âmissingâ, for fuckâs sake even during the war, because clearly me being the âmendacious slutâ that I am I wasnât entirely faithful either!âÂ
âI donât wish to fight you anymore Claire, something has recently come upon my knowledge during my research, and it affects you. Please have a seat.â He gestured to the decanter on the side table and poured a glass for her.
âIt pains me to see you like this Claire. I canât in good conscience force you to stay here and slip further and further away from me every dayâ Frank sucked in a breath and smoothed his hands over his thighs. âIt angered me to see that youâd rather die... than be with me. That you chose his memory over me, a living, breathing human being, and I couldnât even be sure he was real. Still can't. Can you not see Claire why it took me a while to finally decide upon your release?â
The hazy buzz that normally surrounded her mind now had started to fade, if only slightly. Claire squinted at Frank and nodded.Â
He paused, calculating his next words.Â
âIâve done some research with the Reverend. Weâve been in communication since youâve told me what happened.â
Frank adjusted his collar. He stared at the stack of papers to his right on the desk.
âAnd well we certainly found evidence of your presence in the past, but there are other things.â
Claire stared straight through him, she didnât need to worry about her glass face showing something wrong. She felt nothing. This confirmation made no difference for the hell she had been through. The numb feeling had taken a while to crawl over her body the past few months and she welcomed it. It felt better than the suffocating dread and grief she originally felt.
âI know I must let you go. Go to him I mean. Itâs the least I can do for the pain Iâve inadvertently caused you, Claire. Please forgive me. Itâs unbearable for me to live to see you this way, even if the alternative is to send you back.â
âHeâs dead, Frank. They all are.â Her lips thinned into a line. âI have nothing to live for.âÂ
She cringed at her last choice of words. She didnât want to cause him unnecessary suffering. But she was too tired to lie, to protect him from such verbal blows.
âBut Claire. He survived.â His white knuckles wrapped tightly around the armrest of the leather chair and he flexed his jaw. âThis man, this Red Jamie was exonerated of his crimes, with a pardon from King George II himself. And his lands returned in reparation.âÂ
âHow-how can you tell me this? You know what I- God what you put me through. Why would you give me this hope?âÂ
âIâve also found one Alexander Malcolm and his,â he gulped, âwife Elizabeth Malcolm. But Claire, this is your hand on the document. A christening, where Elizabeth, where youâre stated as godmother in a church in Broch Mordha. But then thereâs also this purchase of a croft on the Isle of Lewis, with the same signature as Alexander Malcolm.â
âPlease, Claire, allow me to make amends for whatever part Iâve caused in your suffering. If thereâs some piece, some knowledge I can give you, it would ease my mind considerably. I donât wish for you to waste away before my eyes, for the rest of our days in resentment.â His lips tightened into a thin line. âI met someone while you were away. The new assistant under me at Harvard. I think,â he paused, âI think I love her as you love your Jamie. Let us divorce and Iâll give you what funds I have.âÂ
 âYouâre just- okay with that?âÂ
âClaire, you havenât been my wife in years, not really.âÂ
âSo thatâs just it? I offered divorce when I returned, and finally accept when youâve damaged me. My mind, my soul!â He winced at the sight of circled bits of skin on her temples.Â
âAnd I am regrettably sorry, darling.â He reached for her hand and squeezed. âI know this is what youâve wanted ever since youâve returned. Please, let me make this easy on you. I have the banking number for what covers the divorce settlement. It should be enough to purchase a flight to London, and then I know the inheritance from your parents and uncle should help you on your way to Inverness.â He slid over a paper card to her, detailing the whereabouts of the money he was offering her. She kept her arms crossed tightly over her sternum, not wishing to take any charity from him. Â
âThere's another thing. Your son, the name they said you called out in your sleep every night. I have this death certificate of one Fergus Claudel Fraser. Marked March in the year of our lord Seventeen Forty-Five.â Tears sprang in her dry eyes at the mention of him. He pulled out a sheet from the pile of papers he collected and shoved it over to her side of the table.Â
âWhy are you doing this Frank?â She couldnât bear this physical proof that she had left her son to die without her.Â
âHere is one Fergus Malcolm, on the Isle of Lewis, a year after his âdeathâ and you're on this too. Or rather your alter ego one Elizabeth Beauchamp Malcolm. If nothing else, will you not live for him? Even if the proof of him amounts to nothing, that he really did die at Culloden? Please, take the money, and the papers. Iâm hoping it can ease my conscience from all the torture youâve endured.âÂ
The last thing Claire wanted to do was ease Frankâs ego. She wanted him to suffer. But here was a lifeline, a way out and back to her family. She would see Fergus again if fate allowed. Her mind would never allow her to comprehend the other piece of hope before her. The one sure thing she knew was Fergus, he had been whole and alive the last she saw him. And there was something urging her to him. A panicked urgency. Her mind flashed to the nights after her therapies, when his presence in her dreams was almost so real she could feel his touch after she woke. She quickly signed the paper he offered. Claire Elizabeth Fraser. The wet ink shined against the thick paper. His suffering would have to wait. Her fingers began to twist the gold band on her finger but Frank stopped her.Â
âNo, keep it. It will have value when you⌠return. The papers will be sorted by the time youâre gone, and weâll both be free.â He swallowed sharply. âKnow this Claire. I still love you, and I always will.âÂ
He had a funny way of showing it, Claire thought. She didnât dignify his statement with a response. She left him in the living room to pack, and as the sun rose the next morning her bed and dresser were empty.Â
Frank set aside some money for the divorce settlement into Claireâs own account. She withdrew the three hundred pounds without a second thought, and purchased a ticket to London. It barely covered the cost of a transatlantic flight, which was more of a luxury than anything, but she could afford to spend money, not time. A ship between would have lasted weeks, not hours. She was left with little over fifty pounds to find her way to Inverness. The only things she carried with her were her pearls, sgian dubh, the ring without its ruby stone, the copious amount of papers from Frankâs research, her old botany pocketbook, and a change of clothes, all packed into one small suitcase. Her things barely fit half the space inside it. The gold band hung around her neck on a chain now, instead of resting comfortably on her left ring finger. It clanged against the skin between her breasts with every sway of her steps. It was decided over a very pricey international phone call, she would go see Mrs. Graham.

Chapter 1
Wc: 1.8k  Â
@chokemeanakinâ request, my very first fanfic hope you like it <3
There it was this familiar feeling of fear, anger, and frustration creeping into my mind consuming my very soul âand leave my body frozen.
I failed.
I needed a moment to realize what just happened, a moment I missed to dodge the shot that split my lightsaber in half.
Not that It was of great use to me, now that I was lying on a destroyed federation tank, probably deadly injured and without any support that could turn things for the better.
The stars dancing over me confirmed my worries and slowly a jabbing pain kept me from breathing in more of the burnt air that wavered over the battlefield.
That was it.
That was the end.
The end of a traitor, of someone who left her troops in the middle of a crucial fight only to hunt down a phantom, a specter. There were clear orders to be followed, there was a code that showed a Jedi how to lead, how to live, and most importantly how to survive.
Especially the last part seemed more reasonable to me, as I was dying on that piece of metal junk.
My vision began to blur and the sounds of the battle surrounding me became numbed.
I desperately tried to reach my communicator and I believe more color left my face when I felt the warm blood on my finger.
Tears formed in my eyes as I started to realize what I had done, in what position I had brought not only my troops but the whole galaxy, the republic ... and General Skywalker.
I winced at the thought of Ani, we were friends since we first met as younglings at the temple.
The mission we were sent to was most likely one of the most significant, it held the potential to capture General Grievous and end that monster once and for all. After a defeat of General Grievous and his droids, the Jedi council and chancellor Palpatine were informed by republic supporters that Grievous fled to the Outer Rim.
Palpatine made it clear that two of the most powerful Jedi should execute this mission to ensure certain success. The council was as confused as I was when the chancellor recommended me for this mission, of course, I was a Jedi knight but I was neither a master nor the chosen one, on the contrary, I had never felt strongly connected to the force or was especially skilled with the lightsaber. If it wasn't for the severity of the situation and the lack of available Jedi, the council would have never even considered sending me on this mission.
I closed my eyes and gasped at the pain that slowly numbed my body and my consciousness.
In the Carlac system, we finally tracked a sign, in hindsight obviously way too easy and after we landed on Carlac it didn´t take long and an army had surrounded us. Any communication was blocked and Anakin and I were separated right at the beginning of the battle.
The snow-covered planet made it difficult to keep an overview, heavy blizzards made it nearly impossible to see more than two feet in front of you.
Tiny sobs escaped me when I thought of him being out there alone facing this gigantic army of battle droids. In the Jedi order was no personal attachment allowed and that was the hardest price to pay in order of being a Jedi. He had to be dead by now, yet I didn´t feel any change in the force.
The tears burned in my eyes, realizing that everyone could be dead by now and my weak connection to the force could easily hide it from me.
My thoughts became disorientated and the aching pain had now reached every limb and bone in my body.
My eyelids became heavier and it started to snow again, flakes nearly as big as my hand, they really looked beautiful combined with the fading sunlight.
Something felt so familiar with that picture and for a moment it soothed my pain sending me into something between sleep and unconsciousness.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The nightmare that haunted me was the same as I dreamt it almost every night for as long as I could remember.
Usually, I was wandering through a cave until I would spot daylight and hope to escape this hell only to stop before a dead end every single time. A horrifying scream fills the cave, echoes, and becomes louder and louder until I´d crouch on the ground. Desperation and fear would paralyze me until the cave would begin to crumble and collapse burying me.
This time was no different and with a loud gasp I opened my eyes, adjusting to the harsh mechanical lights that were directed on me.
I couldn´t make anything out in the glaring light, apart from the metallic room that surrounded me, and the fact that I was levitating in the middle of this room, held in some sort of slowly spinning electrical captivation.
It was a wonder that I survived the shooting before but there was no way I would live long enough to...my train of thought was interrupted by the opening of the door.
Battle droids of course and behind them a horrendous creature, half a robot and half Kaleesh.
"General Grievous", I stated, trying to sound as unaffected as possible.
His pestering laugh filled the room as he eyed me carefully.
"I´m a Jedi", my voice sounded horrible, an embarrassing mixture between voice cracks and whispering. Why was I even talking to him, I silently cursed myself.
"Jedi scum for sure, but what´s your name little Jedi?"
"Emerald", I answered slowly starting to feel the pain coming back.
"Is this even a name?", the droid next to Grievous chattered, "Never is that a name.", he continued clearly sure of himself, "We found her on the top of a tank, and her lightsaber was broken. I have it right here. Look at it yourself." he proudly held my lightsaber in front of Grievous face. Â
"What am I supposed to do with it you stupid droid?", the Kaleesh snarled. "You´re soon will look like that saber, Jedi scum. Droids, guard her." with that he stamped out, leaving me with that awful sound of "Rodger, Rodger" echoing through the room.
The thought of Anakin and the clones haunted me, there was no way I would give them up so easily.
This was my chance, a new sparkle of hope gave me life, the moment a somewhat brilliant idea came to my mind.
With my most suffering expression, which I didn't even need to fake that much I wailed "Oh, no. I´m gonna die, I can feel it. If I die now, Grievous can´t kill me. How are you gonna explain to him that you let me die when you were instructed to guard me." I sighed dramatically and slowly closed my eyes.
"Is she dead?", "Hey you, Emerald Jedi.", "I think she is dead", "We need to check, I was just promoted." the discussion continued until I roughly landed on the ground, hearing the two battle droidsâ approaching to check on my health.
I quietly groaned at the aching pain that definitely originated from the left side of my body.
I felt the cold metal hand on my throat, clumsily checking if I was still alive. "I think she is...dead?!"
I calmed myself collecting everything that's left of my strength and grabbed the droid and ripped his head off. "Whaaat the", the other droid screamed in shock, still compensating why I was still breathing, which made it easier to grab his blaster and shoot it.
I gasped again, this time out of physical exertion, this little fight had brought me near unconsciousness again.
Struggling to set one foot before another I reached the door and opened it, trying to be as quiet as possible while sneaking out of the metallic hellhole.
There were only a few other droids, the base definitely didn´t seem heavily guarded, which was somehow strange.
"Grievous, you know that it is of utmost importance that the Jedi girl...", I froze and slowly approached the corner the voices were coming from. "Skywalker has to walk into our trap..." My heart made a little jump when I realized that Anakin probably wasn´t dead. "...Sidious ordered that she is only to be killed when Skywalker watches." I frowned and carefully retreated. The pain became more unbearable by the second and I still needed to find a way out of here.
Still, I couldn´t keep my mind from start rattling about what I just witnessed.
What in the force's name did they mean by setting a trap for Anakin. I wasn´t sure who the other one was, but I was definitely planning on figuring that out.
I needed to get to our ship and contact the fleet, call for help and inform the Jedi council about this.
I looked for something that would keep me alive and my luck had turned at least that's what I thought the moment I spotted a little something above me.
It seemed like there was some sort of container that had a medical sign-on. My shoulder made a terrible sound as I tried to reach for the switch to open it.
The pain that shot through my whole body caused me to abruptly slump down to the hard metal ground.
Before I could hit the ground hard, I was caught by a pair of strong arms that seemed familiar to me.
Could this be... "Ani?", I croaked and turned around, tears once again forming in my eyes as I saw his eyes full of concern and his hurt expression.
"You promised me you weren´t going to do anything reckless", he whispered and tried to sound taunting but his voice broke when he turned me a bit and saw my side.
I Â tried to form a laugh that sounded more like Grievous coughing, due to the amount of blood that came with it.
"Don´t worry it´s gonna be fine. Help is on its way, we-we contacted the fleet.",
My hand clutched for his that tried desperately to soothe my pain somehow.
"Ani, please hold me", I whimpered holding on to him even stronger. I couldn't read the expression that crept on his face but it scared me.
"They are gonna pay for this, every single one of them." he hissed and my stomach turned.
"Just look at me, Ani, please. It´s not that bad.", I whispered caressing his cheek and tried to smile. His expression softens and he carefully picked me up. "You´re so cold, Ems." I huffed and grabbed his hand pressing it against me, placing a soft kiss on his palm. A sad smile graced his face while he covered me with his robe. "See, I´m here, don´t worry.", he placed in return a kiss on my head.
"Ani, I´m scared." I whispered and I don´t know what hurt more the stabbing pain in my side or how his eyes became watery.
I ran my hand softly over his chest and buried myself into his strong arms. I barely felt the pain nor the burning sensation that had caused his touch.
And once again I drifted into sleep, only this time I felt as safe and warm as I never had before.

Hi!!! Could I get D, K, O for Sabo and Law please? I really love your writing, you are so so so talented :D
Hiyaa! Thank youuu, I am happy you enjoy my little scribbles!~ I usually only do 5 for these so Iâd have to drop 1 letter for one guy, but you are in luck! K for Sabo has already been done here! So here are the other five letters for these 2 beans! Enjoy!Â
Fluff Alphabet - Law D K O & Sabo D OÂ
LawÂ
D - dreams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?
Law doesnât dare to think too much of the future, mostly because thereâs so much uncertainty in the pirate life. Heâs not sure if heâll survive all his plans and missions, hell, he doesnât even know if you will, for all he knows heâs cursed with most of the people he loves suffering a terrible fate. He will do anything to protect you though. Ideally, he reaches his goals and retires somewhere on an island where no one knows either of you. Itâs his long term plan/dream. Short term, his dreams are just keeping the relationship and his crew stable, and keeping the lot of you safe and happy. You all knew what you signed up for when you came aboard a pirate ship and yet. As captain, heâd like to make sure you can all achieve your goals while staying as safe as possible, as a boyfriend he wants you to be happy and proud to be by his side.
K - kiss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?
Law is rather inexperienced in the affection department -sweaty polar bear hugs from Bepo aside- so the very first kiss is too careful, too calculated as if he was in his head and overthinking the whole time. He is a very fast learner though, and it takes him very little time to become nearly an expert. He easily adjusts to your pace, making nearly all the kisses perfect. They lack a little whenever he is really tired (yâknow after a day or 3 without some shuteye) but youâve got very little to complain.Â
In general, his kisses are somewhere in between passionate and lazy. Thereâs just the right amount of pressure and tenderness. Once he starts, be prepared because Law is actually pretty needy for affection, but only in private. Even the crew does not witness much affection between the two of you, Law respects your privacy and needs you to do the same for him. Staying behind to help him rearrange the infirmary or waking up a little earlier with him sometimes definitely has his benefits.Â
O - on Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings? In public, Law is generally the same, sarcastic, deadpan, sleep-deprived captain. Heâs gentle towards the rest of the crew and you alike, and you donât get any special treatment. Maybe heâll even avoid you more, especially if heâs falling hard but youâre not a couple yet. Law is rather scared to actually start a relationship and hopes that avoiding you will solve the problem. Spoiler: it doesnât. Even when youâre a couple, things donât seem that much different on the surface. You still do your usual chores etc, and Law does whatever he always does as a captain. The most anyone will notice is that he will put you in even more safe spots during missions, itâs almost frustrating. In private, thatâs where Law becomes a different person. I wouldnât say touch-deprived, but heâs still rather needy. He didnât even know he was like that. In the beginning, he wasnât really that keen on physical love and affection, but once he got a feel for it, itâs over. Sitting on his lap as he does paperwork, reading comics while lying close together on the bed and of course, some intense makeout sessions. As long as the door is locked and Bepo doesnât need either of you, heâs all yours, and definitely different from what everyone is used to.Â
SaboÂ
D - dreams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?
Right now, the world is in chaos. The revolutionary army is just starting to make a difference, and Sabo will not stop until their goals are reached. So short term, heâd just like to keep you safe and by his side, and he dares not to dream big, there are so many things that could happen still that could impact the whole world, and thus your relationship as well. Eventually, Sabo would like to get married. Sometimes, in the most mellow moments when youâre thinking of the future together, he mentions having kids. Only if you want to, of course, and only if the world is safe enough to bring a little one into. His dreams are pretty standard and romantic, and more than anything else, he would love to grow old together with you, in a world that no longer has the corrupt government sister. Heâd retire, visit Luffy here and there as heâs the pirate king - in secret, of course, cannot be associated with that - and just live a quiet life, away from all the troubles.
O - on Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?
Sabo is not as obvious as youâd think. In general, his behavior is a little more upbeat, his smiles a little bigger and more frequent (as well as his face cramping up from smiling too hard) and he seems to just do his paperwork a little bit faster. This of course, so he can spend more time with you. It is obvious that heâs having something good happen, but unless your relationship is revealed, no one will really know. Whenever heâs around you, it gets way more obvious. Youâre one of the few people he doesnât just hang up on in the middle of a phone conversation, and whenever youâre actually there, he likes to be physically close. Not necessarily a huge display of PDA, but just sitting close, holding your hand, having an arm around you, things like that. Sabo is usually quite the gentleman, and it gets even more obvious when heâs in love. Offering you his arm, holding open doors for you, getting a chair for you, all the little things that always make your heart flutter, and make it pretty obvious to your surroundings what is going on.

Daenerys Stormborn, Part 1: From Pentos, to Vaes Dothrak, from Qarth, to Slaver's Bay
I've decided since this tiny post; I'll write about Dany. But there's so much I can talk about that I will most likely write between other essays (unless I feel otherwise). Daenerys Targaryen is my favourite character in ASOIAF. She's an incredibly complex character, and one whose fate interests me quite a lot. Of all the endings in the show, Dany's made me the saddest and angriest. Not only did they rush and make her turn a "twist" that happened on a dime, but it fed into the Mad Queen theories that I really despised.
Can't a powerful women with dragons not go mad with power and become prone to hysteria? Also, can said woman not be murdered by her lover/nephew as a way to give said lover more pain instead of having any meaningful end to her arc? And can said woman not have been "an insane tyrant the whole time"? I may one day vent on season 8, but I won't. Instead, I want to attempt to make sense of the ending we saw in the show, and how it applies to the books. Bit by bit, I will build up to Dany's ultimate role in the series. But first, we need to set the groundwork for it.
(CW: Rape)
The Last Dragon
The first we see of Daenerys, she is a very shy girl who was under the thumb of her physically and psychologically abusive brother Viserys. With no agency, she was married off as essentially a marital slave to be raped by Khal Drogo. However, after some meaningful dragon dreams, Dany began to try and take advantage of her surroundings to give herself power. Of course, Viserys didn't like this very much. Dany was everything Viserys wasn't.
Whereas Viserys was incredibly narcissistic and had no real feelings for anyone other than himself, Daenerys shows empathy to those lower than her. While Viserys was prone to violent outbursts of intense rage and did not think things through very well, Dany is more measured, perceptive, and intelligent (not to say she's infallible, nobody in this world is infallible). As Daenerys became more and more loved by Drogo and the Dothraki, Viserys found himself jealous that she was better received than him, the lawful heir to the Targaryen dynasty.
This culminated in Viserys threatening to cut Rhaego out from her, and Drogo pouring molten gold onto his face to kill him. Good riddance, fuck Viserys. Anyways, she then tries to convince Drogo to cross the narrow sea to invade Westeros, but he stubbornly refuses until an assassin hired by Robert attempts to poison her and is caught, at which point he vows to do so. In her first real experience with war, when the khalasar sacks a Lhazareen village, Dany is disturbed to see all the innocent men being massacred and the women being gang raped, so she decides to take the women under her protection, which earns her resentment from some of Drogo's bloodriders.
I don't think Dany was quite aware of what war and conquest would look like until the village, and she was horrified by what she saw. During the sack, Drogo was wounded slaying Khal Ogo, and with Dany's urging, one of the women she took under her protection, Mirri Maz Duur, agreed to heal his wound. Of course, being a maegi, she is hated and not trusted by the Dothraki. Regardless, Mirri heals Drogo's wounds and they continue on until Drogo collapses from a fever, having removed the poultice of his wound.
From there, Dany's hold on the khalasar is weakening. Her power is really tied to Drogo's, as Dothraki society is extremely misogynistic and views women as lesser beings. Desperate to save him, she turns to Mirri for any magic she could use to heal him. This decision is what finally breaks the khalasar, several of the bloodriders try to kill her, and in that time, another one of the women Dany rescued, Eroeh, was gang raped and murdered by Jhaqo and Pono. The result is Daenerys being left with what can't be more than 100 people out of the original 100,000 or so people in the khalasar.
However, Dany suffers another crushing loss; her child Rhaego. While Mirri says that death may pay for life, and she sacrifices Drogo's horse, the real price was Dany's unborn child. She did so because Rhaego was to be the stallion who mounts the world, a prophesied leader of all Dothraki who would become a great conqueror. In addition, Drogo is "healed", but permanently left in a catatonic state. When Dany asks Mirri when he will be back to normal, Mirri says;
"When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east," said Mirri Maz Duur. "When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before."
Dany seems to take this to mean "never", and is heartbroken, so she mercy kills him by smothering him with a pillow.
Throughout the first book, Dany has a series of dreams and visions involving dragons, the most telling of which was her "wake the dragon" fever dream she had during Mirri's ritual. As a result, and to get vengeance for her husband and child, Dany decides to tie Mirri on a stake to Drogo's funeral pyre, as well as placing the dragon eggs with Drogo. Then, when it is lit, and Mirri burns alive, Dany walks into the flames. Everyone thinks she is mad, that she is out of her mind, but Dany seems to think this is all part of her destiny.
And sure enough, when the fire burns out, she is unburnt (save for her hair), and she has three newly hatched dragons. The "wake the dragon" dream also features, near the end, her opening the red door of the house she stayed in as a young child in Braavos, and finding herself under the visor of Rhaegar's helmet, as Jorah repeats "the last dragon". Dany's journey in the first book is about taking control of herself and her family's legacy.
Early on, she realizes that Viserys will never conquer the Seven Kingdoms, and although Viserys originally had Dany marry Drogo to get an army of his own, the khalasar eventually became Dany's army. And when Viserys died, Dany decided it was her responsibility to do what he could not; take back the Iron Throne for her family. And then, at her absolute lowest, when she has lost practically the entire khalasar, her husband, her child, she gains three dragons.
Viserys believed that his name made him a Targaryen, that being King meant he was a true Targaryen. His anger was a tool to assert his dominance as a Targaryen, to get others to bend to his will. He has immense pride for his family, which turned into unchecked narcissism. But for all his talk, Viserys was no true Targaryen, and no true dragon. Dany even thinks this just after he dies.
He was no dragon, Dany thought, curiously calm. Fire cannot kill a dragon.
Dany has brought dragons back to the world, a symbol of the power Targaryens had, back to life. She was not killed by the fire of Drogo's pyre (of course, she isn't fireproof, this was a one time weird occurrence). She is a true dragon, a true Targaryen, who is truly following in the footsteps of her family.
The Lost Dragon
During the Drogo pyre fire (hah), a red comet appeared in the sky. Believing that she has a bigger purpose, and that the comet was sent for her, she and her khalasar follow it, into the Red Waste. Despite thinking this is a sign for her future, she is mostly lost and unsure what to do. With enemies all around, the Red Waste is the only way to go. They find the abandoned city of what she calls Vaes Tolorro, and she sends out her bloodriders to look for what is around.
Eventually, Jhogo returns with three representatives of Qarth; Xaro Xhoan Daxos, Pyat Pree, and Quaithe. They bring her back to Qarth, where she is showered with gifts and given part of Xaro's own palace to stay at. She begs an audience with the Pureborn, the descendants of the kings and queens of Qarth, but they reject her plea for aid in conquering Westeros. Xaro meanwhile suggests marriage, but only as a means to steal her dragons for himself. Quaithe gives very cryptic and vague as hell prophecies to Dany.
With no one left to turn to for aid, Dany decides to seek answers from the warlocks at the House of the Undying, drinking shade of the evening and having numerous visions. When she finally finds the Undying, they seem to be trying to steal her life force, only for Drogon to set them alight. After that, with no way to leave Qarth and refusal to be sent off with any ships, Dany is stuck, and is the subject of an assassination attempt by the Sorrowful Men, sent by Pyat Pree, only for it to be thwarted thanks to Barristan.
On surface level, Dany's ACOK arc is less eventful and straightforward than AGOT; she remains in roughly a single location the entire time, with only two major events occurring (the Undying visions & the attempted assassination). However, after such a journey in AGOT, it makes sense for her story to slow down a bit before speeding back up in ASOS. After finally embracing the responsibility of carrying the Targaryen legacy her brother failed to live to, Dany now has to deal with the fact of how important she is and what her next moves are.
Despite Qarth being so beautiful and splendid, with seemingly everyone ready to provide aid for her quest to conquer Westeros, it is all an illusion. They see someone who is now one of the most powerful people in the world, someone they can use to manipulate for their own ends and gain power for themselves. Quaithe tells Dany as much:
Last of the three seekers to depart was Quaithe the shadowbinder. From her Dany received only a warning. "Beware," the woman in the red lacquer mask said. "Of whom?" "Of all. They shall come day and night to see the wonder that has been born again into the world, and when they see they shall lust. For dragons are fire made flesh, and fire is power."
Dany thinks to herself that there must've been a reason the comet led her to Qarth, as part of her belief that she is heavily tied to destiny.
"The comet led me to Qarth for a reason. I had hoped to find my army here, but it seems that will not be. What else remains, I ask myself?"
So what was the reason she was in Qarth? In my opinion, it was partly to teach her a lesson in not trusting people, but mostly knowledge. The House of the Undying is a massive moment in the series, as it lays out many future events of the series before us (and her!) that are very cryptic and hard to uncover. I will one day examine the full scope of the visions of the Undying, but I want to focus on the narrative reason for this.
Daenerys has a strong sense of destiny. The hatching of the dragons, the red comet, the visions, they all have to mean something, lead toward this grand destiny of hers. I think that a lot (but not all) of the visions Dany experiences are relevant to her future, and lay out a lot of what she will experience/do in the last two books. The prophecies she learns (especially concerning being the "slayer of lies", "three treasons", "three fires", and "three mounts") stay with her into ADWD, where Quaithe once again appears and asks she remember the Undying.
Prophecies are also very common in Greek tragedies, and also appears in Macbeth, a tragedy written by Shakespeare, wherein Macbeth seeks out the knowledge of the witches again out of fear that he will lose his position as king. Daenerys is aware that there will be three treasons committed against her, as well as three fires she will light, and three mounts she will ride, and that there are three heads of the dragon. She constantly considers in ADWD whether these prophecies are coming true, that she finds confusing and suspicious, frustrated even.
In short, the Undying is not just a window into the future, but more of an exploration of the effect prophecy has on a young person like Daenerys who so strongly believes in destiny. She also learns in a vision of Rhaegar about something called "the song of ice and fire", which seems to be extremely significant, and that she will be at the centre of the climactic events of the series.
In the end, it is not herself or the Qartheen who get her out of Qarth, but a disguised Barristan Selmy, sent with three ships by Illyrio to bring her back to Pentos. Dissatisfied with her time in Qarth, she decides to return to Pentos with Barristan... but Pentos is not where she ends up, not even close.
The New Dragon
After leaving Qarth and the return west, Jorah, mistrustful of Illyrio, instead convinces Dany to turn the ships to Astapor and buy Unsullied slave soldiers to help in her conquest of Westeros. Stopping by Astapor, she finds a hellish place, red bricks, tortured slaves, and narcissistic slave masters who have no regard or empathy for anyone other than themselves. Disgusted by what she has seen, Dany formulates a plan entirely in her own head; she decides to buy all the Unsullied by giving Drogon over to Kraznys.
Only she didn't. She only did that to gain control of the Unsullied, before burning the masters and freeing all the slaves. As she tells Xaro later in ADWD, despite being surrounded by slaves with the Dothraki and in Qarth, she did not see how horrible it could be until she got to Astapor and saw how the slaves were tortured. She had the power to try to end it, and decided to take it upon her hands. So instead of heading to Westeros, she decides to liberate Yunkai and Meereen as well.
It's easy to be frustrated at Dany's Essos arc, especially since it doesn't really interact with the Westerosi plot where the majority of the action is taking place, but I think it's important that Dany repeatedly is given an option to go to Westeros, but instead stays in Essos. Progressions in real life are rarely linear, and I applaud GRRM for being able to have clear character arcs while not having the progression be entirely linear and staying true to life.
After Astapor, Yunkai fears what will happen to them as she approaches and hires two sellsword companies for aid. Instead, Dany purposefully lies to the Yunkish envoy and the sellswords, and gives the later wine to get drunk on (and an offer to join her) while she attacks at night. Daario, a lieutenant of the Stormcrows, is won over by Daenerys, kills his fellow captains, and defects to her side. Yunkai is defeated, and the slaves are let go. However, unlike Astapor, Dany does not put an end to the Wise Masters. For this, she is hailed by the freedmen as "mhysa!" or "mother". The Second Sons also join Daenerys after the battle.
Then they move on to Meereen, who has decided to crucify a little slave girl for each mile as a marker from Yunkai to Meereen. When she arrives, the Meereenese champion is easily defeated, and Mero, the former captain of the Second Sons, attempts to kill Dany in her camp, but is promptly killed by Arstan Whitebeard, who is then revealed to be Barristan, who reveals Jorah has been spying on Daenerys for King Robert.
Daenerys takes Meereen and crucifies the 162 Great Masters as retribution for the 162 slave girls crucified. When Barristan explains why he did not tell her who he was, she accepts and forgives him, but she finds she cannot forgive Jorah and banishes him. And of course, instead of leaving for Westeros, she decides to stay in Meereen, after learning that Astapor has been left in the hands of a butcher king named Cleon, overthrowing a council she had instilled when she left, and proposing war against Yunkai, which she just liberated.
Worried about what the effects would be if she simply left Meereen for Westeros, she decides to stay in Meereen and rule as its queen. I decided to call this section "the new dragon" because of Daenerys dismantling an institution her own ancestors helped found. The Ghiscari of Old Ghis had slavery of their own, which they ended up teaching to their new conquerors, the Valyrians. Then, after the Doom, slavery continued again, only this time it was now being practiced by the Free Cities, who are in constant trading with the masters of Slaver's Bay.
As she notes, they keep to the Ghiscari gods, and their symbol is of the harpy, a symbol of Old Ghis, but they no longer speak Ghiscari, instead speaking High Valyrian. Slavery was something the dragonlords of Old Valyria engaged in routinely, and that legacy is still all over Essos. In a way, she is undoing the sins of her ancestors past, and trying to make the world a better place and fighting injustice by using her dragons.
In contrast to ACOK, where she seems as yet undecided on what exactly her destiny is, she seems to be taking control of it in ASOS, becoming Mhysa, the Breaker of Chains, a saviour to those who have been enslaved. It is at this point that she starts to gain a serious following, one that I only assume will continue to grow in Essos. Because of her actions in fighting against slavery, she not only becomes a real saviour to the freedmen, but she also becomes a messianic figure to the followers of R'hllor, as a reincarnation of Azor Ahai.
This is where Dany goes from being simply the last Targaryen, the last dragon, and into a legendary, almost mythic, god-like figure. In my future essays, I will expand upon this aspect of her, since it is going to be really important moving forward, but the start of that is here in ASOS. And thus, this will be where I am concluding part 1. AGOT had Daenerys starting low, but eventually learning to rise up and realize she has to be the one to carry on the Targaryen legacy, after knowing Viserys would never live up to it.
ACOK had Dany questioning her destiny, as well as figuring out what her next step is after the miraculous birth of her dragons. And ASOS concludes her act 1 arc, by having her take control of her destiny and becoming a truly legendary figure who is changing the world. In part 2, I will be discussing in depth the thematic and personal struggles Daenerys faces as she is ruling Meereen in ADWD, and what those struggles and their resolution means for her future.
