medieval resident evil au where Umbrella is a cabal of dark mages trying to unlock the secrets to lichdom and go mad learning secrets from the undead eldritch horror outside of space and time

Chris and Jill are Knights in service of the Order of Stars, Leon is a beginning town guard, Ada is still a spy, honestly not much is different

If you give them ttrpg character sheets then it's even more fun

Would guns be wands, badass Crossbows, or straight up magic, or different based on the game? They could also just be guns but that wouldn't be nearly as interesting.

Consider pistol=dagger, rifle=longsword, shotgun=axe? Grenades could be hand bombs or magic.

Or pistol=hand crossbow, rifle=light crossbow, shotgun is either special bolt or a spell

Beneath the cobblestone streets of raccoon city, where gaslamps and auto-carriages ramble, is the lair of an evil sect of mages developing spells in secret to transform humans into beasts

Could be very bloodborne-esque. Lots of fire and brimstone. Maybe STARS are more like paladins, and the bsaa is an order of Templar type organization.

If we go dnd 5e rules, Chris is a fighter for sure, Jill is like a rogue I guess? Leon could go either. It could be fun to make Claire like a sorcerer since she gets the grenade launcher

In later games I think Chris definitely fits either paladin or barbarian, where Leon goes for more rogue/maybe ranger vibes. Jill seems more rogue+fighter but magic rogue is cool, maybe artificer. Claire would be sorcerer multiclass I think. Keep any mages low powered that way.

Sherry in 6 is maybe warlock or aasimar instead of Cleric? Blood hunter would be cool. Rebecca starts as a Cleric in 0 for sure. For a low magic setting where research and Rituals are matched by quick, small combat spells, how high of a DC do you think enemies would go?

Of course, in a classless system like gurps or all flesh, this would be a lot less restrictive. What would be the best system for resident evil normally? What would be the best one for its fantasy au?

Wesker very much fits the low-fantasy vampire theme. He has a reflection and can step in he sunlight but wow it hurts his eyes. Chris rolls a 20 to punch a boulder to death.

Leon has the lucky feat or 20 in dex or something to pull off his stunts. Chris also gets Charisma as a leader for the bsaa, so paladin is up his alley. Leon's secret service requires more rogue skills, but his time in operation javier trains his skills as a Ranger under Krauser maybe?

Jill and Claire both get grenade launchers, but Jill is more Rogue with her lockpicking so it makes sense for them to switch level ups later on as claire learns more professional skills for rogue training.

Barry definitely hits fighter/barbarian with his heavy weapons. Jake is maybe more monk/barbarian but with something like a dhampir ancestry feature? Sheva is maybe rogue/fighter or paladin fighter since thats when chris starts taking paladin levels. Billy has to be rogue/fighter I think, or maybe fighter/rogue, if he even gets a second class. It would almost make sense for him to be pure rogue and rebecca be cure cleric, since she retires to become a researcher and hes never heard from again. Helena is I guess just plain rogue, hinting at her role in 6, while Leon has his ranger levels. Piers is more rogue/Ranger (or fighter archer). A lot of the one off teammates just don't get super interesting classes as a consequence of their limited appearance. Carlos... Fighter? Just fighter is fine.

Now, the problem here is that each game starts off with little to no equipment for various reasons. In the case of our spell casters like claire and jill, we can't just de-level them between adventures in the resident evil campaign. But we could give them more limited access to spell components to match the resource management of survival horror.

This is more complicated outside of dnd 5e, where a game like All Flesh Must Be Eaten has very different spellcasting rules, so you'd need to stray from a low-magic to a straight low-fantasy setting. Alchemist tools and one use spell scrolls replace your grenades and spell casting maybe? That's the issue you'd run into with treating the setting as one campaign instead of each game as an individual campaign though.

The easiest one to do is RE8. It's literally the same. Ethan starts 7 as a human Commoner, takes levels in artificer as the game goes on, since that one introduced crafting, and comes back very subtly as a human variant with a few new levels in fighter from chris' tutoring. Hey that means we can give Hiesenburg an artificer friend! Class buddies ♡ hiesenburg is probably artificer/sorcerer, giving him charisma and intelligence. Dimetrescu is maybe barbarian if she even gets class levels.

I don't think we can justifiably say Rose is a variant human, I think she gets her own custom ancestry features for this. Sorcerer also feels better than Druid for her, but a couple levels in - you guessed it, rogue! Cover her gun and Stealth skills. You get a lot or rogues and fighters in low powered/low fantasy settings, who knew lol

Yesterday afternoon an anonymous source let us know of a post made by Helena Wayne ( @thebestofwaynes ) (see post here), where she directly stated the following -

“You make me Homophobic”

In response to her brother, Jason Todd ( @jason-peter-todd-harper ) (see related articles), ‘thirst posting’ about his fiancee/husband, Roy Harper ( @one-armed-archer ) (see related articles).

Ms. Wayne directly followed up by claiming the whole thing was a joke, but was it? Though in most cases we would conduct further examinations on these claims, especially given the topic, this journal believes there is little to suggest that it was anything more than a joke.

As one commenter aptly noted, it’s rather hard to hate fruit when nearly every pastry in the bakery is a fruit cake. That is to say that it is difficult to be homophobic when your entire family is some flavour of LGBTQ+.

Ms. Wayne has no other history of homophobia nor other forms of bigotry, therefore we find this tip to be most likely a misunderstanding or an ill-advised attempt to cancel Ms. Wayne.

This journal would like to stress that any and all tips submitted to us will be thoroughly investigated and we ask that baseless claims such as these be solely submitted to one of our interns and not the journal directly.

Ned: swimming. Oh man he has big swimmer energy. I will not elaborate. Daryl does too.

Kiri: rugby. In fact she was on the women’s NZ rugby team that just won gold. If you didn’t see her you weren’t watching hard enough not my problem

Jane Penvellyn (in a few years): DRESSAGE. Oh my god. All the Penvellyns are dressage. It’s a linage of dressage. That whole family is so dressage coded. Except for Alan, he did modern pentathlon.

Katie AND Jenna: they both do canoe and kayak slaloms and they are big rivals and lovers. Also Holt does sailing.

Tex: I know you think I’m going to say an equestrian sport but that’s WRONG he does shooting. Try to tell me that man has ever missed a rifle shot I dare you! (Ollie has though lol)

Mary: you may think I’m going to say an equestrian sport and you are RIGHT. She does cross country with her horsie :)

George: heptathlon!! She’s ripped and also good at cardio!

Henrik: he was a pole vaulter in the 60s. Look at how tall and skinny he is. If this was real life they’d be calling it the Van der Hune flop not the Fosbury flop.

Harlan: wrestling. Search your heart, you know it to be true!

Minette: she switched martial arts to Judo but she loses her first match and gets kicked out of the tournament because she announces every move she’s about to do.

Niko Jovic: unfortunately he is dead so he’s not gonna be participating.

Brenda Carlton: rhythmic gymnastics. The US does not perform well in that sport and she’s going to do nothing to change it.

Helena: triathlon. Imagine it. She can swim and bike and run, I’m sure of it.

Niobe: did you know that up until the 1940s they had art categories in the Olympics? Unfortunately that was like 80 years ago so sorry Niobe it isn’t happening for you.

Elka: she seems short. Gymnastics. She’s not coming anywhere near team USA though.

Anja: oh my god shot put. The lady is made to be a shot putter.

Leela: actually she’s not going to the Olympics because she spends all her time playing air hockey instead of training. Bummer. Kim and Rachel are synchro divers though.

Y’all know what I think would make an interesting AU?

If everyone in the 90’s Young Justice was a clone or a “clone”

Canonically we’ve already got two out of the main ten

Conner Kent/Superboy being a “clone” of Superman & Lex Luthor

& Slobo being a clone of Lobo

Two things to note 1) I think it’s kinda boring if all of them have the same backstory so I’ll still try to give them all a reason that they’ve left Cadmus early in life

And 2) If we’re looking at all the various DC works 1 to 1 clones usually have some major issues

For example the other attempts at cloning Superman didn’t work, the DNA was too unstable

And in the DCAU, the Supergirl 1 on 1 clone had the side effect of being mentally connected to Supergirl which made her mentally unstable and Waller purposely avoided going the 1 to 1 route with Terry implying that it was still not a smart route to go down decades later

Therefore every “clone” will still have two “parents”

Let’s start with the other members of the core four

Tim - obviously a clone of Bruce, could add in Selena’s DNA if the scientists want some extra kick or he could still be the son of Janet so that he’s raised in a similar manner (rich kid upbringing) to Bruce

Janet and Jack could be having fertility issues and are given an opportunity to have a child through Cadmus and they just ignore all the weird stuff like rich people tend to do. Maybe they know Tim is Bruce’s clone, maybe they don’t. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Cassie - Diana Prince & Steve Trevor - not only would this give them access to the Amazons/Themyscira but also to a member of military personnel who knows a lot of stuff he probably shouldn’t

If this pairing Helena Sandsmark could be chosen to adopt her specifically so that she has a higher chance of interacting with the Greek gods which activates her powers (I mean Helena is already canonically interacting with them - might not be hard for Cadmus to realize that)

Could also do Diana & Helena Sandsmark, she could be in the same boat as Janet in the earlier scenario and just rolls with all the weird stuff.

Bart - Barry and Iris. Could still have the aging problem and still raised in Virtual Reality just some centuries behind the usual route. Imagine him thinking up the twins names himself - I mean Dawn and Don as twin names SOUND like they came from a kid raised in VR lol. When Barry and Iris later have the twins, they just roll with the names because Bart said them so matter of fact and Cadmus acts like they aren’t surprised that Bart got it right about Iris’s pregnancy.

Maybe they send him to go find Wally through suggestions from the VR so that he can better learn his powers/can become the next Flash and then Wally sends him to Max like in canon.

Now for the others…

Cissie - super easy Bonnie & Ollie. Bonnie as an Olympic-level archer wants her daughter to be the best archer and a hero and so she seeks out Cadmus and asks just straight up asks them for a clone.

Greta - I’m sorry to say is a mystery. She was a failed clone but no one seems to know who her original DNA came from.

Anita - could be a clone of her mother Oshi if Agua killed Oshi before she had Anita. Cadmus could reach out and be like hey Donald Fite it’s not the same as having your wife back but um, we could clone her? Give you a kid? Maybe Agua pushes for it idk

La'gaan - I couldn’t find much about his history prior to him becoming an Atlantis citizen so I imagine Cadmus might have captured his “parents” or maybe it’s someone who works with Orm and wants to send in a spy and though a child would be easier to get in than an adult. When Aquaman makes him a citizen he decides not to betray his confidence.

Ray - cloned from the original Ray and his wife or another golden age hero. Again pretty simple. Cadmus just thought he was neat. They are obsessed with Sun based superheroes after all. Ray is one I could see being locked up in Cadmus until the formation of the team since he was already locked away from the Sun in his origin story.

So at some point I imagine Tim would probably start to unravel things which would lead to similar events to canon (regarding the formation of the team I mean) but I just think it would be interesting since cloning is so prevalent in the DC universe to have an entire team of clones or “clones”

Maybe after distributing the other clones Luthor gets the idea to actually raise Conner himself which is always a fun AU

Plus with all this cloning going on they could potentially have the tools to prevent Slobo’s body from degrading which is a nice bonus

Coldshot Thoughts

I'm doing this for another operator because I took the time to figure out how she works and now I have to upstage Gamepress. That's not hard but it's my moral duty as someone who actually plays Arknights.

HP: 1,855 ATK: 958 (+105 from Trust) (Total: 1,063) DEF: 224 RES: 0 Redeployment Time: 80 seconds DP Cost: 21 Block Count: 1 Attack Interval: 1.6 seconds

Potentials DP Cost -1 Redeployment time -10 seconds DP Cost -1 Improves "Not to be Outdone" DP Cost -1

Welfares in Arknights suffer from being in a state of limbo generally. Welfares are generally decent or good units, but they very rarely fall out of these bounds. Unlike normal Operators, Welfares do not really benefit from access to their potentials: they have deliberately inflated DP cost and Redeployment Time which means that their potentials don't actually end up improving them across the board. Most Welfares are also 5-stars, which means they end up sitting in the awkward rarity where they feel like they cost more like a 6-star operator but don't quite have the same impact.

This said, Coldshot doesn't initially leave a bad impression, at least in part because the Hunter class is pretty impressively stated. They have good bulk for a Sniper (only losing to Spreadshooters), very high ATK, and a reasonable attack interval. This all comes at a rather nice 18 DP cost too.

Trait Attacks consume Ammo (not Ammunition) to increase ATK to 120%; While not attacking, Ammo will be slowly reloaded (max Capacity 8)

This is due to the Hunter trait. They can attack continuously while they have ammunition, but will have to spend time reloading once they don't. This results in some DPS loss while they have no ammunition, since there is some delay between reloading and attacking again (at most about 0.39 seconds).

Reloading is worth talking about here as well. Reloading takes the same amount of time as attacking (1.6 seconds), but isn't affected by anything that would modify the attack interval, such as ASPD. This means that while Hunters can benefit from ASPD buffs, once they need to reload, their DPS can be considered capped since they need to go through the entire reload process.

In addition, it should be noted here that Coldshot has no synergy with Chen the Holungday. Her talent won't affect Coldshot's ammo use, since they're different mechanics entirely.

The benefit here is the juicy damage increase Hunters get. This is an Attack Scale buff, which means it gets applied after all other modifiers (Inspiration, +x% Atk buffs) but before Defense. This gives Coldshot a rather fantastic damage per hit of 1,275.6 damage, which is really impressive as a base line for a Sniper class. This makes Hunters rather versatile anti-armor units thanks to their good attack interval, especially against low Weight enemies with high DEF (such as in Contingency Contract) where Besiegers are disadvantaged.

The Hunter attack range is an upgraded Lord Guard attack range, and that's honestly a pretty good place to be. She doesn't quite have the spread of the other Archer classes, but she has better penetration being able to hit 5 tiles away.

That was intentional, this is absolutely the cock and balls attack range. Helena is a trans milf and you cannot change my mind.

Next let's move to Helena's talent.

This is an interesting talent since it supports using Helena in generally low pressure lanes. Not attacking for 2 seconds is a pretty easy condition to fulfill by accident since she only needs to stop attacking for 0.4 seconds, and she gets another nice Attack Scale buff for her trouble. Attack Scale buffs stack in a multiplicative fashion, so she'll end up dealing 1.596x her attack in damage with her talent.

This brings her DPH up to 1,696.548 (yeah I've learned that Arknights doesn't round its really annoying on my eyes too) which is quite impressive. If you're sustaining her talent hits over a long period of time as soon as you can, it's worth noting that Coldshot's DPS actually goes up a bit too, which really incentives the low pressure lanes for Coldshot.

Moving onto her skills:

ATK Up gamma Auto Recovery, Manual Activation, 30 second duration Starting SP: 15, SP Cost: 30 ATK + 100%

There is not a particularly compelling reason to use Coldshot's S1. The attack buff it provides is weaker than her S2, she misses out on the Slow bonus which helps to keep enemies in Coldshot's attack range, and it has a worse duration than her S2. Even with the shorter reload time compared to her S2, her DPS is weaker thanks to the smaller ATK buff.

Party Night Auto Recovery, Manual Activation, 40 second duration Starting SP: 25, SP Cost: 40 Increases reload interval by 0.8 seconds, ATK +140%, and attacks slow the taget for 1 second.

This is the only skill that's really worth using on Coldshot. Her ATK with this skill goes up to a pretty staggering 2,551.2, and that's before adding in the ATK scale bonus innate to the Hunter class. That brings her DPH to 3061.44, and that's really impressive. It's not often you can boast damage numbers that high on a Sniper, and this also means Coldshot has a very respectable DPS while her skill is up of 1,913.4.

The extra reload time is both a drawback and a boon. It means that while Coldshot is reloading, she will always benefit from the effect of her talent, and the extra damage pushes her DPH to 4,071.7152 this rather gross looking number. 4000 DPH is genuinely impressive, but Coldshot also suffers from a DPS while having to reload, since the increase to her reload interval outweighs the extra benefits of her talent.

This puts Coldshot into a very weird spot. There's already a general shortage of enemies in the 3000 DEF range, you can tell Coldshot was teched for her event stages given the Energy mechanic, so the extra damage per hit is mostly just unnecessary, and she does suffer from the DPS drop. But hey, you wanna see a fun calc kid?

1063 * 1.35 = 1435.05 * 2.4 = 3444.12 * 1.596 = 5,496.81552

Coldshot while reloading can do meaningful damage to a non-debuffed Last Knight while her reload interval will keep her from being frozen. If you pair her with a Therapist Medic (particularly Ceylon), or have the Healer's Path - Restore Sanity book, she can DPS him while his HP is below 50% as well and won't have to worry about running out of ammo beforehand.

That rocks personally, I cannot fucking wait to try that out. That's with one Relic too. Imagine.

With this all being said, where exactly does Coldshot fit into all of this? If you were concerned about her viability, what is there to think about? One of the problems facing Coldshot is that a high DPH Sniper class is not one without competition, since Deadeyes, Heavyshooters, and Besiegers all fit in that slot too. Hunters don't quite have the ceiling that Heavyshooters like Melanite do, the range that Deadeyes like Firewatch provide, or the impressive DEF ignoring benefits of the Besieger class like Erato.

But, critically, Coldshot is really fucking easy to use, and comes with her own fun specific range benefits over the other classes. Melanite requires extreme close quarters range or ends up having worse DPS with her S1 than Coldshot. Provence can boast similarly nutty DPH numbers, but doing so is both luck based, requires enemies to be damaged, and has a strong positional requirement. Erato needs outside Sleep support to make the most out of her DEF reducing talent, Toddifons is good against exactly Sarkaz enemies, and the Deadeyes all end up with weaker DPS than Coldshot. Firewatch's DPH without her module is even weaker than Coldshot's.

(It's better with her Module though, although her DPS is still lower thanks to her longer Attack Interval.)

Every 5-star comparable operator has some tension in their kit, tension which is fun and cool to work around, but its still there. Coldshot just gets to do big funny numbers for free, with the tradeback that she will have a period where her DPS takes a hit comparatively. This ease of use is a big reason Ray is really good on CN: she's very comparable to the other 6-stars but benefits from being really easy to use. Unfortunately, this does incentivize people to not take much note of Coldshot, but let's be real for a moment.

Coldshot is pretty good, but a very what you see is what you get operator. She maintains no strong niche for the benefit of being more generally powerful. There's no real way to push her higher, meaning her ceiling won't be that impressive, but her floor is rather ridiculous. In the world of shitty Youtube thumbnails and Gamepress tier lists, sometimes you just gotta sit down and go

3000 damage is 3000 damage.

You are under pressure as you try to fight off the orcs. How long will you last? Will you finally end the secrecy and call on your dragon? What shall Aelon do to rally the rest of the people to help you?

Warnings: violence, blood, cuts, and bruises, mentions of dying people, mentions of becoming a thrall, despair, Aelon decides to do something, burning, mentions of being burned alive, and might or not might be a good ending, exposed secrets.

Screams of dying men and the clashing of swords echoed across the battlefield. Blood dressed the gray ground, and you along with Chief Baelen fought all you could to keep the orcs from reaching the people.

You stabbed one of the orcs down, and then quickly threw a spear at another, making the wretched creature shriek while falling to the ground dead.

You observed the situation. The men were holding the line all they could while you and the others killed all who managed to get past. The archers on the hills were shooting, but slowly dropping down dead by the archers on the opposite side. Things were looking awful. Sooner or later, the orc army was going to break through.

It did not help, especially when you heard word that the pass had been blocked, making the people unable to flee. You were trapped. It seemed imminent that this was the moment where you all would either die or become thralls to these creatures. There was no way you could beat them unless all the people came to fight with you, or if you finally decided to reveal your secret and summon Baleria to your aid.

You then noticed an orc coming at you, but before you could do anything, a dagger was thrown into the orc over your shoulder. You glanced toward Chief Baelen who had been fighting alongside you.

“Stay focused, lady (Name)! This will not get better if we just stand around!” Baelen answered with a smile while fighting the orcs.

You turned your attention to the next orc that came at you.

“Well, if we do not get reinforcement or the people find a way to get past the blockade. Things are going to get bad either way!” you yelled while killing the orcs.

Baelen laughed. “Well, let’s focus on keeping them at bay then!” he said as he fought beside you.

At the rock blockage, panic spread among the people, who desperately attempted to climb over the rocks, only to find it nearly impossible. Some even tried scaling the rocky sides, but their hazardous size made it impossible as well. Aelon watched with a sense of dread as Helena and Mika attempted to comfort their mother, while the twins' parents mournfully hugged Ramuel and Samuel. Eweniel held his hand tightly as they both grappled with fear over the dire situation.

“I guess this is it. This is where we are either going to die or become thralls to the dark lord,” Eweniel uttered.

“There has to be something that can save us,” Aelon stated.

“How? There are too many of them.” Eweniel questioned.

“The chiefs and the rest of the people need to help (Name) to fight them off. If all of us would fight, then maybe we could survive,” Aelon uttered.

“Well, it does not look like those chiefs are going to do much. They seemed to be wandering like headless chickens at the front,” Dwenn mentioned as he looked toward the front.

Aelon thought to himself before jumping down from the wagon.

“Aelon! Where are you going?” Eweniel called out as they watched him run through the people. “The chiefs need to help (Name). It’s the only way!” Aelon called back as he ran past the people.

“I go after him,” Dwenn said and climbed down the wagon, following after Aelon as the little boy pushed through the crowds.

Aelon apologized as he ran past and tried to avoid hitting the people while trying to find the chiefs, who were wondering what to do with the blockage. Dwenn managed to keep up with him despite his leg and slowness.

Soon, Aelon managed to locate the three chiefs who had overseen the decision to proceed through the pass despite your warnings.

“Chief Horren!” Aelon called out to the man.

The three men gave their attention to him as he stepped before them.

“You need to help (Name) and the rest of the men at the back. If we all fight together we might be able to survive this,” Aelon explained.

Horren sighed. “Get back to your family boy. We will figure out a way to escape,” he said dismissively.

“My family is currently fighting the orcs, trying to protect us and buy us some time, and it's already been half an hour. We can’t escape from here. The only solution is to fight the orcs,” Aelon said.

“There are too many of them. Even if we all fight with all our force, there is no way we can beat them all,” Horren said, his voice heavy with despair.

"With (Name)'s help, you can. You just have to try," Aelon urged, his tone determined despite the dire circumstances. "Whatever it might be, you have to do something, or we will die waiting for you to come up with a solution," he added, his words a desperate plea for action.

Horren looked at him softly.

“Listen, boy… there is nothing we can do. I admire your determination, but we are clearly beyond saving at this point,” Horren stated.

Aelon looked at him appalled.

“So, your solution is just to do nothing?!” Aelon asked.

“We will either become dead or thralls if we do nothing, but you think that’s acceptable. You just wanna stay put and die by doing nothing?” Aelon raised his voice at the older man.

“Hold your tongue boy! This is a chief you’re talking to,” one of the chiefs snapped at him.

“It’s fine,” Horren sighed.

“Boy…” he said.

“Aelon. My name is Aelon Targaryen,” Aelon answered. “(Name) is my older sister,” he added.

“Aelon…” Horren started. “We are grateful for the time your sister has bought us. But in this situation, my hands are tied. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves from this predicament. It is for the best that you return to your friends and family and pray for a miracle. I am sorry.” Horren explained.

Aelon stared at them quietly. You had taught him that some people acted differently in the face of death and desperation, but he never imagined meeting people who would easily give up.

Dwenn, who had been standing beside Aelon, scoffed. “Some fearless chiefs you are,” he uttered, gaining Aelon’s and the chiefs' attention.

“I have met my fair share of men in my life, but I have never met people who acted tough then became wimps in the face of desperation,” he started.

“When our village was attacked, in the face of destruction and death, (Name), took control and defended us from Morgoth’s orcs and wolves. It was thanks to her we managed to escape,” he said. “And even now, she fights the orcs, even when the situation is hopeless, giving her everything to give us more time,”

Eweniel appeared beside Aelon.

Dwenn then grabbed an axe from the ground. “I would rather die on the battlefield beside someone like her than stay here and accept my fate, dying beside cowardly men like you three,” he pointed at the chiefs.

“I would gladly give my other eye and leg if it meant helping her. I will not abandon her and let her efforts go to waste,” he said.

“Even if we all fight. There is still nothing we can do to change the outcome of the battle,” Horren said back.

“No,” Aelon said after contemplating his thoughts. “There is something that can save us,” he said, then ran to the side of the pass, climbing up one of the hills with Eweniel.

“What are you going to do?” Eweniel asked as they stood on the hill and Aelon looked toward the higher mountains.

Aelon looked carefully across the sky, reaching out toward his dragon through his bond. His dragon responded.

“Well… remember when you suspected I was keeping a secret from you?” Aelon asked as he brought his hand around his mouth.

“Yeah?” Eweniel answered.

“Well, today I’m going to tell you what that secret is,” he said.

Aelon then took a deep breath.

“[Falconer! Come to me!]”

You breathed heavily after a whole hour had passed and the orcs kept coming. The black blood of the orcs trickled down from the Night’s Whisperer’s steel. Cuts and bruises throbbed around your face and places where you ended up being cut. It did not help that fatigue was beginning to take a toll on you. You have been fighting nonstop, trying to kill as many orcs as you could and avoid being killed, but things were not turning better.

Despite your efforts to fend off the orcs, the situation only worsened. After an hour of continuous fighting, the line finally crumbled. The archers stationed on the hill were picked off one by one, and now the rest of the swordsmen were butchered, leaving only you and Chief Baelen back-to-back, facing the horde. Despite his efforts to remain composed, Chief Baelen showed signs of weariness and injury, his attempts at a smile betraying the toll the battle had taken on him.

“It seems this is the end of the road for us,” Baelen chuckled as you two leaned against each other, holding your weapons. “Not too bad though. We managed to last quite long with such a small force against an army,” he stated.

“You fight well. Now I’m kinda mad that we did not go with the mountain road plan. Might have saved us the trouble,” he chuckled.

“You too. But this might not be over for us yet,” you replied.

“Unfortunately, we are out of men. If Horren and those other idiots would just come to help us like we asked, then maybe we would have had the chance,” Baelen said.

You then glanced toward the mountains. There was no other way. You had to summon Baleria or you would be killed. You closed your eyes and reached out to your dragon through your bond.

“Bloody hell. Now Horren and the others decided to come help us out,” Baelen said, disrupting your thoughts.

You saw the other chiefs and people charging to help you. Your ears then caught a sound in the air. It sounded like a heavy flap of wings. Your eyes widened. It couldn’t be…

“Get down!” You pushed Baelen against the ground as a pillar of fire fell upon the orcs, burning them around you. The hot hair brushed above you while the orcs began screaming in pain as they burned alive.

A large shadow flew over you and from the smoke, rose Falconer.

Aelon looked down from the saddle after burning the orcs around you and Baelen. You looked back at him as he then glided down toward the orcs.

“[Dracarys!]” Aelon yelled and Falconer breathed fire upon the orcs, chasing them away from you.

The chiefs and the people came charging at the orcs, their voices blending into a unified battle cry. You even saw Dwenn charging with an axe.

“Well, I’ll be damned,” Baelen said as you two got up from the ground. He stared at Falconer and Aelon as the pair fired on the orc army.

Falconer roared as he swooped down, grabbing one of the trolls and tossing the creature into the air.

The orc army began to scatter from Falconer and the people’s counterattack. You and Baelen quickly joined the fight, striking down any orc that dared to stand against you. Meanwhile, Aelon descended from the sky with Falconer, unleashing a torrent of flames that engulfed the archers on the hills. The orcs began to falter and retreat, their ranks thinning as fear gripped their hearts.

After twenty minutes of intense fighting and relentless burning of the enemy, the orc army began to dwindle as they retreated from the pass. Fueled by determination, you and the rest of the warriors gave chase, driving the orcs back until the orcs had left and the pass was free once more. With the threat vanquished, the people erupted into cheers of victory, relieved to have emerged triumphant from the harrowing ordeal.

You watched as the people cheered, happy to have won and remained alive. You then focused on Aelon and Falconer as they circled in the sky, visible to all the people on the ground.

“(Name) Targaryen!” Horren stomped toward you.

You sighed, knowing what was to come.

The cheering ceased as all eyes turned toward you and the dragon flying above. Horren's voice reverberated with anger as he directed his glare at you.

"Can you explain why you and your little brother have a dragon?" Horren demanded, pointing accusingly at the dragon in the sky. Glancing at Aelon, who looked down at you with concern, you attempted to offer him an assuring smile, knowing this moment was inevitable.

Your secret was now exposed.
