So the general consensus was that I should snag a beer periodically through the day while running errands. Unfortunately, this led to me not being even remotely buzzed, let alone drunk. So, I made a pit stop on the way home to grab a fresh 12 pack of Heineken. Safe to say that today's challenge has officially started!

right under this was a pic of floridian miku with a 12 pack of heineken beer next to her
I love that the two genres of 'miku from my culture' posts are 'beautiful intricate traditional clothing' and 'what if miku was a regular at the gas station by my house'

People can do this in creative protest. Is called that. You dress up like Dave and Doug and you have a bunch of you and you go to a bar and you bring these labels that have the right adhesive and they're Elsinore beer labels you printed up and you pull the sticky off and it's sticking on the Molson or the Heineken Etcetera bottles and you say the lines and you're drinking the beer and you say take ooff eey and only two people have the jackets onand a couple people come up and they have just shirts and only two people have the jackets on....and They order the beer and they have to put their jackets on and like a few more do it and they have to put their jackets on and then camera pans back and it says get a taste of the Great White North with Elsinore beer a fine brew
Zues Hera
We have a saying that we use up there in Canada if you don't know what you're talking about don't say it but he knows he's talking about and it's very weird 'cause it's like backwards we were freezing and the beer is supposed to help us warm up. But really it's an excuse to drink the beer that's what we were doing but even when you're completely sauced you're still freezing it was making it worse so we had to leave but really this commercial idea is awesome I love it. We really have to start doing this stuff and we'll probably try on our own and he wants people to fake it and possibly even sell different beer as Elsinore beer and it's probably gonna happen all I can say is a great night white N it's beautiful and cheers to Arnie for making it even better than it was for having us notice it and cherish it. And he was always great for a beer at a decent time so gonna bring a couple 12 packs up there with a few people and have some brew a nice Miller Lite underneath a lovely smelling pine trees and the beautiful white snow maybe he was up there somewhere watching over us and he was our grandfather and we don't like you Trump

Heineken IOU
https://musebycl.io/makers/heineken-made-placeholder-gift-ones-dont-arrive-time
The supply chain problems have lots of people anxious about whether gifts they've ordered—or plan to order—will arrive by Christmas. But never fear, you can always give the recipient an IOU, in the form of a festively packaged six-pack of Heineken.
From Dec. 10-12 and again from Dec. 17-19, Heineken will be giving out "Heineken IOUs," a free placeholder gift to bring to holiday parties for gifts that haven't arrived on time.
With this I was wanting to see whether they had changed their logo at all with different campaigns. They haven't in this one but I do like how the IOU stands out more than the actual logo. It brings focus to the forefront of the campaign and Heineken is just the brand behind it (a tool).
The think the presentation of the box is very nice, despite it being for Christmas and therefore not very groundbreaking. The pattern on the inside is a nice touch too.
The label where you can write the gifts you are having to IOU is what helps to make it more personalised

A private blog? retro.
it seems like so many people have these sobriety blogs that they started when they started their journeys, or maybe just the people who succeeded and became spokespeople, I guess. Anyway I have a lot to say and I would just use my written journal but it doesn't keep up with my brain and I'm so out of practice writing things down that my stamina is really low and it irritates me. I don't want to have to stop writing when I'm on a roll. So all of these books I'm reading are basically by women who were like "I started writing this when I decided to get sober and then I just kept going and now you're reading it and it's a book." so I guess I'm doing that now.
I decided officially to try and stop drinking on 12/5 when I woke up. That puts me currently on day 3 without drinking. the night before, sunday night, I decided to drink a bunch of beers for basically no reason except for the fact that I didn't work until 11 am the next day, as I do, and something just clicked while I was drinking where I was like, yeah, I should really talk to someone about this. like an alcohol therapist. so I decided to tell my dad about it and he said he thought it was a good idea. I also talked to my brother, who hasn't had any alcohol for 25 days now, and he and I kind of just discussed like our feelings about alcohol and how it's so unhealthy the relationship we have with it, how we just spend all this time looking forward to any time we can manage getting drunk, going to work hungover, drinking multiple times a week now, drinking way too much each time. it had just gotten out of control for me. the main thing i wanted was to stop drinking so many times a week. so Monday morning I downloaded this app called reframe and I originally went with the "cut back" track, but then the more I read stuff and really thought about it, the more I was like hey, let's just try to quit. see how it goes. so I switched to the quitting track.
after that I kind of went down a rabbit hole. reading forums, checking out books about sobriety. and I've realized how much of a problem I really have, how much I see myself in other peoples' stories, and truly how hard it actually is to not drink. it's just such a habit for me. good day? want to drink to celebrate. and that would honestly be okay, except for the fact that every time I drink I have like 11 beers. which is way too much, like I'm getting shitfaced and basically passing out 3 times a week. even once a week, that's too much. if I could just have like a six pack once a week that would be one thing, and honestly maybe someday I WILL be able to do that! it's just not feasible for me right now. I have too much to work through. drinking brings up so much trauma and I use it way too much as a coping mechanism. and that's not even STARTING on the physical impact is has on me, because my body is already destroying itself. I really don't need to actively destroy it further with what is essentially poison being poured into my body in enormous amounts.
I still think it would probably be useful to go to therapy, but currently I'm trying out a bunch of different things. I also told my roommate/best friend. and she seems like she wants to help. I'm trying to come up with distractions/things I can do during triggering times, aka 5-8 PM-ish and nights before I don't have to work, like weekends or random days off. normally the whole point of those days for me is getting to get drunk, so I need something else to look forward to. last night I was struggling, so I got some NA beer and I did use a nicotine vape that I had, which isn't great but it helped a lot and got rid of the craving, the two of them together. my roommate also came down and hung out with me while I did Legos and stuff, so that was really helpful just to have company that would hold me accountable so I wouldn't order booze or anything. OH and I saw today that they sell Heineken 0.0 on GoPuff!!! which is like.. if god exists the dude is looking out for me there. if I'm having a huge craving I can order those and a vape and still feel like i'm doing something "rebellious" or whatever, still get a little bit of a buzz, but WITHOUT the endless guilt and anxiety of drinking. without saying or doing anything dumb, or worrying endlessly that i did or said something dumb even if i didn't.
anyway. i'm gonna post this on the off chance it develops an underground following or i meet my soulmate cuz that seems to happen sometimes and i've never let go of that wish.
remember when everyone thought justin bieber and taylor swift had a secret tumblr? yeah.
bye

I’ve been trying the whole “does this spark joy?” thing, since I’m packing everything I own so I can move to the new house, and here’s a list of things that I couldn’t bring myself to throw away because they did spark... something?
The cap of a Heineken and a Bacardi I probably drank in some dark alley in the old city when I was 15 years old
Something like 12 kg of seashells gathered during the past 30ish years of my life
A lot of pretty rocks
A translucent blue sphere my cousin and I used to pretend was a Dragon Ball when we were 10, which at one point fell into the deep side of the pool at her grandma’s house and it took us three days to dive deep enough to get it back
A random AFI pin
A CD dated 2005, full of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Beyblade, Tolkien, and Shaman King fanart that has been long disappeared from the internet...
...and also a lot of my super embarrassing stories written before the age of 14
The printout of my first ever “book,” which I wrote at 15 and can’t for the love of me read more than a page of before wanting the ground to eat me
A bunch of random rosaries? I don’t even know how to pray with a rosary, but they’re shiny?
A lock of my sister’s hair, from when she was maybe four or five
Receipts from shops I used to hang out at when I was a teenager and that don’t exist anymore: a music shop that specialized in rock/metal/emo music and merchandise, an esoteric shop I used to go just to look around and occasionally buy a book or two because it was super cool, the shop I ended up buying literally hundreds of band pins and patches
Tickets from the local cinema from when I was too young to have a ride to the big one out of town, for: the last Harry Potter movie, Enchanted, Star Trek, the fucking first Pirates of The Caribbean
A love letter from someone I was very much a dick to, and will probably never see again
A piece of paper tablecloth, green and white, ripped from somewhere during a class trip either late in middle school or early in highschool
My 2007 ipod, which hasn’t worked for at least a decade if not more
An Articolo 31 CD a complete dickhead gifted me when I was 11, for whatever reason?
And that’s... not all of it lmao

To the Next Person Who’ll Love Him
An open letter to the next person who'll love him and the things I found out and loved about him. It was a privilege to be given the chance to know this much about him. The things I'm about to say are things I found out during our friendship and are not necessarily true for future reference. People can change when they want to, so this is the version of him that I got the chance to know and love.
1. His SB drinks: Iced/hot English Breakfast Tea with white mocha and raspberry syrup with a splash of breve, tea bag in also known as "Pink Drink" and looks like the "Pink milk" from thai dramas. For him, it was like happiness in a cup. When he started med, he has tried mocha frappucinos, americano and cold brews.
2. Alcoholic drinks: Prefers Red horse over other drink. Most unforgettable was a canned beer from Thailand. He sometimes get Heineken. Not so picky with cocktails, and will go with anything the group decides.
3. You'll know he's tipsy when his hair gets messy or he starts shaking his head after a drink or shot. When he's drunk he'll just doze off or he can become unreasonable so just listen to what he has to say. If he's hurt, he'll start opening up or cry. Just be there to listen. If ever there will be a point, he wants to vomit…he'll tell you.
4. Food: He's quite picky with food. Totally no middle eastern or Indian food. Anything with too many spices and aromatics. He doesn't like anything too spicy or fermented either such as kimchi. His comfort food during our friendship is samgyeopsal, particularly the thinly sliced beef without marinades, slightly toasted to a crisp. Aside from that, he used to order Breakfast starter: eggs scramble, bacon, plain rice and lemonade with an extra order of bacon. If funds are getting low, either he won't eat at all or offer cheap alternatives…preferrably with a fast service, Laxamana's (Pork sisig) or Paylite (teriyaki).
5. He cannot be separated from his phone: He's always on his phone. He has a lot of friends and responsibilities in med school. He will check up on those at anytime, don't worry he's still listening to you if ever you're teeling him something. BRING A POWERBANK. His phone during our friendship had battery problems, and his phone drains so easily. Bring a back up type c cord too, just in case. If he somehow, ignores his phone during your time and talks to you instead…you're very lucky.
6. Don't let him wait, especially by the time you meet him. He'll either be busy with acads, clerkship or internship. Same with most med students, their time is precious. Do not demand for more, because you know the type of career they have. At this point you have to remember quality over quantity.
7. He might have inhibitions from receiving things. (I feel I might have contributed to that) He would often hesitate to accept things, but will accept them if it's already there. He'd willingly accept treats from friends instead. Just remember that when you give things freely, you no longer have ownership over them. Don't ever count them and use it against him or isumbat mo sa kanya. You gave it freely and he never asked them from you.
8. Maingay siya magreview. I think yun yung learning strategy niya. And being a teacher, there are times na you have to pretend to be a student kasi he uses teaching as a review. Don't try asking the questions in his transes, not very helpful and kung non-med student ka hindi mo rin masasabi kung tama or mali yung sagot. Kung may kailangan ka din gawin, pwede ka naman mag earphones pakiramdaman mo lang kung kelan siya mag rerest. Either kukunin niya phone niya or kukuha ng bagong trans.
9. He smokes: a lot when stressed, but curbed when he has to do a lot of things. He usually uses this as a reward after finishing a certain number of transes. If you smoke, you should at least have a pack of marlboro blue (pwede rin green or black) or esse pop and a lighter. If you don't smoke, okay lang din naman sa kanya.
10. There will be times he won't be able to reply to you as fast as he used to. Either he's phone is dead, quiz or exam, tulog pa or travelling. If those conditions don't apply, take a hint. If you got impatient waiting, ask him personally and not through text.
11. Music: You'll often find him listening to music. During our friendship, he had listen to a lot of OPM bands, Particularly Ben&Ben the rest includes: The Juans, Autotelic, December Avenue, I belong to the Zoo.
12. There will be times he'll rant or throw a shade on social media. Just ask how he's feeling first before asking to whom it is directed to. He's not in the mood during that time and it's more important to let him calm down first. He'll tell you when he trusts you.
13. He rarely invites people out, but when he does that means he wants to be with you. If you want to spend time with him, do the same. Just invite him out, especially when he wants to, he's very vocal about it anyway.
14. When he nags you in texts, or send songs that he listens to before he shares it on his social media accounts, he cares.
15. As mentioned before, he has a lot of friends. It's best to keep your best foot forward. You'll meet them along the way. Masaya sila kasama, and it would be best to go with the flow of their humor. Being too serious and rigid, won't help you.
16. Marami din siyang crush. Just remember, crush is paghanga only. If he really likes someone, he'll stick to one. You'll know it's you if you notice some of his friends warming up to you. He would usually ask his friends to be his wingman.
17. He has a lot of smiles, all equally adorable but not necessarily true. Once you’ve seen all, you’ll know which one is true. The kind of smile that radiates towards you.
18. He rarely watched movies in theaters. So if you were to invite him for a date, go out for dinner, coffee or drinks instead. He enjoys long walks too, if he’s interested.
19. He’s an ultimate fan of Friends, watching it over and over to cheer himself up or to relieve some stress. Game of thrones as well, finding the finale disappointing. Big Bang theory as well.
20. He’s not perfect. He has flaws just like everyone else. That’s up to you to decide, but one thing is for sure, you have the capacity to accept them. Accept them, not change them. He has to do it on his own, when he finds it necessary. And when he does, support him.
I'd like you to know that I found happiness in him that's why I found all of these things easy. Acquaintances and even my closest friends have called me stupid for doing them for so long. There are times that I believed them but not completely. All I did was express my love…transform it to something that is acceptable to the both of us…. Even though it didn't last. Judge me if you must, but I will do all of these things all over again if I had a chance. It was my love for him that allowed me to open my doors and become the person I am today. A kind of love that is transformative. I admit that most of it came from me, but it won't exist without him that's why I am so grateful for him. Unfortunately, his love is not meant for me, not because I don't deserve it, it's just not for me.
To the next person who'll love him, I hope you'll mean it when you say so. I want you to know that there are people who loves him as well, and he refused them to meet you and be with you. If you would be given the chance to love him, the kind of chance where he is fully aware and acknowledges your love to the point he reciprocates it…don't lose it. He's been hurt before, and if you've felt that before, don't become the reason for it. Communicate.
OR
To the next person who'll love him, love him your own way….because I'm not the best person to know. I don't know how to love him, if I did, he would have seen it. If I could no longer be in his life as a lover or even as friend, I just want him to remember me as someone who truly loved him. I hope he won't settle for less because if someone like me could love him so easily, someone whom he loves should be capable of exceeding it. Just as I won't be settling for something like this ever again, because now I know that I also deserve the love that I was willing to give.

BEER 3.0 Hey! “Social” Safeway
Wow. I feel like I’ve untapped a special resource that is Safeway’s beer section.
I am a new found fan of Safeway – I have never been to one before. On a sunny Sunday afternoon I went to the Safeway located at 1855 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007. This is right in the affluent Georgetown neighborhood. This is definitely a superstore and you get the feeling that you could find anything and everything you need for your kitchen here. The sheer size of the store when I walked in was eye-catching. The lighting was bright white and is mirrored by the linoleum floors.
Nobody could come to look for beer and leave empty handed. Everyone could find a beer they like in this massive selection. Plus, this is considered the “social” Safeway - so you may make a friend or two, or meet a significant other!
According to Safeway’s website, their mission is to “be the first choice for those customers who have the ability to shop locally in a Safeway store.” The items on offer were vast in number and variety and were reasonably priced, making this an attractive place for buying beer. The prices were shown on their bright yellow price tags.
The beer section was located in the far back corner of the store, but the walk to get there is totally worth it. At first I looked at the end cap of the beer offerings and saw large boxes of notable brands such as Heineken and Corona. Prices were reasonable: $14.99 for a 12-pack of Heineken.
Then much to my delight, as I turned the corner an entire aisle of beer appeared! I was shocked. This aisle seemed to be never ending with its incredible beer options and was fully stocked. This aisle was split up into 4 sections: micro brew, craft beer, premium beer, and domestic beer. Safeway easily points its customers to the beer they are looking for, but also makes it easy to browse for a new one.
A “Choose Your Brew” section offered customers the option to pick a mixture of 6 bottles or cans of beer to make your own six-pack. This allows customers to test different brands without needing to buy a whole set of them. One six-pack costs $10.99, which I would say is pretty good since you get to mix and match.
My favorite part of Safeway’s beer aisle was that above every section, were short, catchy notes suggesting food pairings. For example, one tip for Pale Ale suggested pairing it with: burgers, cream based sauces/soups, cheddar cheese, or carrot cake. A pretty random mix, but cool nonetheless!
On this Sunday afternoon, I was the only person browsing the beer aisle. My guess is that most people were out enjoying the sunshine rather than shopping for beer. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very social experience for me.
A few of my favorite brand names on offer at this store were The Corruption, Voodoo Ranger, and All Day IPA.

Spring Break
Pictured here: Yours truly in Wicklow, Ireland
Hey there! It’s been a hot second since I last wrote a blog post, but with good reason...I was on spring break! At DIS, March is a major travel month, and there are two weeks in March that you will spend traveling if you are considering being a DIS student. One of these weeks will be spent with your corse course on a long study tour (which for me is the last week of March in Athens Greece...stay tuned!) and the other is an opportunity for independent travel. The way my schedule worked out meant that my spring break came first, and so i had the opportunity to what ever travel I wanted. I decided to split my time between Berlin, Amsterdam, and Dublin and now I’m here to tell you all about it!
Berlin, Germany
My journey started bright and early on Saturday morning with a flight to Berlin. My friends and I stayed at a hostel called Three Little Pigs, and while the hostel itself was pretty and cool, the crowd wasn’t very young and so i’m not sure i’d recommend this hostel as a first choice, but it made for a good place to stay, especially since my friends and I booked our room in this hostel quite late. While in Berlin we did quite a bit of walking, saw the Berlin wall, and visited the spy museum. While we were only there for two full days, we still got to see many of the popular sites and try some of the token foods (currywurst...kind of just like a hotdog with some sauce on it). We also visited a very aesthetically pleasing brunch spot called House of Small Wonders. While this location was adorable and served delicious food, the wait for Sunday brunch was outrageous, and so I would recommend only visiting on a weekday.
Pictured here: House of Small Wonders, brunch location
While Berlin was certainly an experience, I have to say that it wasn’t really my vibe and is a rather harsh feeling place in general. While I think it can be worth seeing, it was probably my least favorite of the three locations that I went to, but it is an interesting place to go to learn about it’s history, and it is certainly an experience nonetheless. If you are planning on visiting Berlin, here are some tips I can offer you: It’s important to note that in Berlin many places are cash only, so you should get euros as soon as possible when you arrive if you plan to travel there. Also, in many of the restaurants and cafes there’s smoking indoors to the point that it can be hard to breath and you will smell like cigarettes when you leave. The one thing I didn’t get to try while in Germany was some authentic schnitzel, but I later found out that schnitzel is technically Austrian, so I suppose that means i’ll have to pay a visit to Austria!
Pictured here: My friend and me in front of the Brandenburg Gate
Amsterdam, Netherlands
After our stay in Berlin, arriving in Amsterdam was like a breath of fresh air! While it was fairly windy when we landed, eventually the sun came out and we were able to enjoy some time outside. The hostel we stayed at was called The Generator, and is part of a larger hostel chain. This hostel was a fantastic option, and I would highly recommend it. It was located in a park which made for a lovely atmosphere, was very clean, and had a cafe on-site. Like with Berlin, we did a great deal of walking in Amsterdam, but walking in Amsterdam is fairly simple and as a result we didn’t buy any transportation passes for our stay. There are all sorts of interesting and cute shops along the canal, making Amsterdam a beautiful city to explore in the daytime. We went into all sorts of shops, including the Tulip museum, and also went for an incredibly pleasant canal ride in one of the boats.
Pictured here: On the canal cruise
We also enjoyed the Heineken experience, which is aptly named because it is less a tour of a brewery and more an in-depth look into how Heineken has progressed and is trying to market itself. We of course also paid a visit to the Red light district, which while certainly odd and different, was interesting and i think important to see from as a visitor to Amsterdam and from an outsider/observer’s perspective. One of the coolest places we visited in Amsterdam though was an incredibly tiny dutch pancake shop called Upstairs Pannenkoeken. This adorable little spot is known as Europe’s smallest pancake shop, and I believe it because this place was tiny! They are open from 12-6 and only take cash, but you can make reservations by phone and they are very accommodating. One thing to note, however, is that the shop is up a set of extremely step stairs (more like a carpeted ladder, honestly) and so if you have a disability or difficulty walking you may not be able to access this spot. Nonetheless, they had delicious pancakes and I think it’s worth checking out!
Pictured here: The outside of Upstairs Pannenkoekenhuis
Dublin, Ireland
The last leg of my week-long travel journey was in Dublin! This was the city that I was looking forward to the most, and the one that most lived up to my expectations! Firstly, the Irish people are just something else. My friend who I was visiting there is studying abroad at Trinity and he told me the most amazing quote from William Butler Yeats that just about sums up my impression of Dublin: “There are no strangers here, Only friends you haven’t met yet.” As with the other cities on this trip there was a ton of walking involved! I got to experience a full Irish visit, and of course payed a visit to the Guinness Storehouse. We went to a number of different pubs throughout the visit, many of which had live Irish music playing, others with a hilarious and catchy selection of early late 90s and 2000s hits. Aside from the traditional Irish food we ate, we also visited a killer burrito shop, Mama’s Revenge, a super nice healthy breakfast at The Fumbally, and a really delicious ramen restaurant, Ramen Bar.
Pictured here: Breakfast at The Fumbally
On the second day we took a bus out to the Irish countryside and went for a walk around Wicklow. We got to see SO MANY sheep, the greenest grass in the world, and some neat stone church ruins. My friend of course also took us for a tour of the old part of Trinity College, where we go to the see The Long Room and The Book of Kells (free of charge with a trinity student!). All in all, my visit with Dublin was the perfect way to wrap up an insanely long and action packed week.

That’s all for now! Feel free to ask me any question about my travels specifically or DIS in general and check out more pictures from my trips on my instagram page, @mugsnshrugs.
