some unpopular, as well as popular, sanders sides opinions
virgil
• kinda overrated
• 100% a top. you can’t change my mind
• not a soft uwu emo bean. like, no more of that please. it changes his personality so much.
• actually really tall (heightened anxiety)
• can be really awful sometimes. i know he’s your favorite, but you can’t just ignore his rudeness.
roman
• he is definitely a bottom
• he deserves way more love
• he is not ok. like, get this boy some help
• isn’t usually in the wrong, contrary to popular belief
• striving to be perfect
• should to make up with janus and talk about his moral conflict about the court case
logan
• deserves more love
• obviously isn’t good at reading emotions, resulting in others feelings being hurt
• mom.
patton
• is really manipulative sometimes
• shouldn’t be treated as though he’s never done bad
• yes he might be a good person, but we shouldn’t overlook his flaws
• responsible for most conflict in SvS
janus
• needs to talk and apologize to roman (and probably remus too)
• isn’t a bad guy, and was mostly in the right
• manipulated roman, which is wrong, but he had good intentions
• loves jazz. i don’t know why, he just does
remus
• he needs to work things out with roman
• listen to him. intrusive ≠ bad
• shouldn’t have knocked out roman
• talks to himself all the time
• does crazy things like eating deodorant to get more attention
• isn’t actually that different from roman (which isn’t a bad thing for either of them)

“I’m exhausted” Logan and whatever side you want (can be platonic or romantic), Logan's experiencing emotions he's not used to and it's draining
so i’m a sucker for analogical and this got long. tho honestly this is me we’re talking about so what did you expect?
“Logan!” Virgil exclaimed, slamming the logical side’s door open. “What in the name of Ray Toro are we going to do about Thomas driving near a club at night on Wednesday? That’s the route you suggested he take! But Thomas is going to get killed by a drunk driver if that happens! So, what do we do?!”
Logan sighed, picking his head up from the table on which it was resting. He put his glasses on, facing the anxious side. “We’ll be fine, Virgil. However, if it bothers you so much we can go on another street. Also, will you please knock next time?”
Virgil’s exclamations and anxiety-fueled antics stopped, and he finally got a good look at the logical side. He looked terrible.
“You good, L?”
Logan rolled his eyes, turning his head away from Virgil so the side couldn’t take notice of his messy state. “I’m fine. I have given you what you required, so unless you have any other qualms you wish me to take care of, please leave.”
“Yeah, I have one more ‘qualm’ or whatever you called it,” Virgil said, approaching Logan. “You.”
Logan exhaled, giving Virgil an irritated look. “Yes, of course. What did I do this time?”
Virgil sat on Logan’s table, on his left, and gave him a scrutinizing look. “You’ve done nothing wrong, as per usual, but you’re a mess.”
“Thank you,” Logan said sarcastically, though Virgil’s ‘as per usual’ did lighten his mood by the tiniest fraction.
“I don’t mean it as a thing you’ve done wrong, but...” Virgil gave him a once-over. “Your hair is a mess, your glasses are crooked and weren’t even on when I came in, your tie is incredibly loose, your top button is undone, and your shoes are untied. If I wore your clothing, that would be expected of me and might even be considered nice, but this is you we’re talking about.” He paused, looking into Logan’s eyes. “What’s going on with you, buddy?”
Logan tried to fix his hair, adjusted his glasses, and tied his shoes. He left his shirt and tie the way they were as fixing them would feel restricting. He had loosened his tie and unbutton the top button of his shirt a few hours before because he felt like they were hindering his breathing.
“This is a worry I will not be calming for you. I’d greatly appreciate it if you would leave and not tell anyone about what you saw here.”
“No.”
“Look, I’m not in a compromising situation. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.”
“You just told me,” Virgil said slowly, “me, not to worry.”
Logan sighed, putting a hand to his forehead. “Yes, I realize my mistake. Of course you’re worried. Fine. Worry somewhere that isn’t my room, please.”
Virgil crossed his arms. “Rude.”
“Exactly. No one wants to be around rude people. Leave me alone.”
Virgil shook his head, putting a hand on Logan’s shoulder, the logical side immediately shrugging it off. “I’m worried about you, dude. I can’t help it, you’re the voice of reason. If you’re not doing okay, Thomas will suffer. And I don’t mean this as criticism or pressure for you to be okay, just...it’s really important to make sure you’re alright. It can’t just be dismissed as one of my normal, unimportant worries. It wouldn’t be...logical to leave you like this.”
“I’m not fond of the fact that you are likely correct,” Logan grumbled.
“Great; we’ve established that I have to stay,” Virgil stated. “So, what’s up?”
“I...” Logan trailed off, thinking about how to voice his emotions. “I’m exhausted.”
“Hmm?”
“Every day I work tirelessly to provide you all with what you need. Schedules, explanations, assistance in educational activities. I join you all in most of your discussions, offering the logical explanation or solution for the current dilemma almost immediately, and yet no one listens. No one will heed my advice, or listen to my suggestions. I would gladly do what I do with no problem if it wasn’t like talking to a wall and telling it how to deal with its issues.”
“Logan...”
“I’m just...I don’t know...” He put his head back down on the desk.
“No one means to hurt your feelings.”
“It’s not that. I’m over being hurt, or offended...”
“Then?”
“I’m just so tired, V.”
Virgil didn’t have a response to that. Logan lifted his head to look at Virgil.
“There’s nothing else to it.” Logan rubbed his eyes under his glasses. “I’m tired. Exhausted. And I don’t know how to deal with it.”
“Get some sleep?” Virgil suggested. “I can talk with the others, fix our rude behavior. And I’m sorry, I know I can be rude to you-”
Logan thought back to Dealing With Intrusive Thoughts. Virgil had been particularly disrespectful that episode, but it was only because he thought that further conversation on the topic would only make Thomas’ situation worse and his likelihood of becoming a bad person all the more likely.
“You’ve only been rude to me recently when your anxiety was telling you that what I was doing would make things worse. Your actions were out of fear and were understandable and while I was annoyed, I am over it and require no apology.”
“Oh...okay,” Virgil replied quietly. “Thank you for understanding.”
“And talking with the others may help, if you’re up for it.”
Virgil nodded. “Maybe we could do it together? I don’t know exactly how you’re feeling, so having you there would help.”
“Of course.”
“...Would sleep help?” Virgil asked. “I know you work a lot so it could help with the fatigue. You don’t always listen to your own advice, so-”
“Not with this problem, I’m afraid,” Logan said with a grimace. “Sleep doesn’t take me away from dealing with everyone and my emotions permanently.”
Virgil raised an eyebrow. “Emotions, huh?”
Logan sighed. “Yes. It has come to my attention that I do indeed...feel things, despite it not being logical.”
“It may not be logical, but it’s normal.” Virgil furrowed his eyebrows. “What emotions are troubling you?”
“I’m not sure I would like to talk with you about it,” Logan said bluntly. “There’s more than I know what to do with.”
“Oh. Should I get Patton?”
“No!” Logan exclaimed, eyes widening at his own volume. “Apologies. No, that would not be appreciated.”
“Is it, like, anger over not being listened to? Irritation? Insecurity?”
Logan stared at him for a moment, before answering. “Yes. Those are some of the troubling emotions.”
“Among others?”
“Among others.”
“And you don’t want to talk with me about it because...”
Logan didn’t want to answer this. He knew he’d been feeling something for the anxious side lately, and it was before he walked in the Logan decided it was likely something akin to romantic love.
Virgil was just so wonderful. He was smart, thoughtful, protective, funny (at times), beautiful, and they got along very well.
Having those types of feelings for someone, especially Virgil, scared him. He also didn’t want Virgil to know, in case it hurt their friendship or heightened his anxiety.
So, he figured it would be best not to mention it.
“I would rather not talk about it at all.”
Virgil frowned. “But you singled me out. Why?”
“Because we are currently talking.”
Virgil gave him an unimpressed look—he clearly didn’t buy it.
“I don’t want you to know.”
Virgil nodded, looking away from Logan and to his lap. “You hate me, don’t you?”
“Wha- no!” Logan objected incredulously.
“It’s okay, I get it, no need to sugarcoat it,” Virgil said pitifully. “I undermine what you do, I annoy you with my worries, I-”
“Stop,” Logan commanded firmly. “None of those things are true. I’m not having trouble with hateful emotions...I’m having trouble with their opposites. Please don’t talk to me about them.”
“You’re having trouble with...love?”
“Can’t we just leave it?”
Virgil grinned. “No. I will get to the bottom of this.”
Logan groaned, throwing his head back against the chair he was in.
“Is it Patton?” Virgil asked. “I bet it’s Patton. That’s why you’re so hurt when people don’t listen. You want him to think you’re smart and cool and you want him to notice and like you.”
“It’s not Patton.”
“No?” Virgil asked, surprised. However, he was secretly very happy. “I bet you’re lying.”
Logan didn’t understand how Virgil hadn’t caught on. “Just leave me alone, please.”
“No, we went over this,” Virgil said, exasperated. “I will now help you find love.”
“No, you won’t,” Logan disagreed. If Virgil was willing to help him with this, he obviously didn’t feel the same.
“Yes, I will,” Virgil replied. “I care about you. I won’t let you suffer through this unfamiliarity alone.”
In truth, Virgil knew because he suffered through it with his feelings for Logan. He still was suffering through it.
“The gesture is touching, but I will have to decline.”
Virgil gasped. “Is it Janus? You two are both incredibly intelligent.”
Virgil really didn’t know?
“No, it isn’t.”
Virgil put a hand to his chin in thought. “What’s he like?”
“He’s an idiot, that’s what he is,” Logan said in exasperation.
“Oh, so it’s Roman.”
Though, considering he didn’t want Virgil to know, this may have been good.
“All of you are idiots; I wasn’t specifying anything.” He pulled out a schedule for a future day and started to work on it.
“So it’s Roman.”
Logan shook his head. “No.”
Virgil paused. “It’s Remus?!”
Logan put his pen down, absolutely done. “Yes. Yes, it’s Remus. Me, the embodiment of logic, fell in love with a chaotic and crazy side who took out my teeth and hit me with a throwing star that, if I were human, would have killed me.” He gave Virgil a look.
There was a moment of silence.
“...Thomas?”
Logan threw his pen at Virgil’s head. “Get out. Leave. Leave my room, you utter and complete moron. I will not tolerate such idiocy in my sacred space of intelligence and higher thinking.”
Virgil put his hands up, jumping off the table and walking towards the door. He reached for the handle, but stopped.
He thought back to their conversation, who he’d eliminated, who he’d hadn’t, and Logan’s reactions. He remembered that time when he and Patton were in Logan’s room a week before, and Logan yelled at Patton for so much as leaning on his table. Logan just let him sit on the table for an extended period of time. Logan didn’t force him out of his room or sink out, he just told Virgil to leave multiple times. He did try to ward him off with rudeness once, but never tried again. He also defended Virgil’s actions that hurt his feelings...to Virgil. Not to mention, he described his crush as an idiot before going on to call Virgil out on his idiocy and use that to send him out of his room.
“...Oh.”
Logan knew this meant Virgil had figured it out, so he took another pen and started to write furiously.
Virgil swiveled on his heels to face Logan, a look of realization on his face. He suppressed a laugh when he saw the side turned away from him and to his work, writing quickly and fully ignoring him. He found it absolutely adorable.
He walked over to Logan slowly, hands stuffed in his hoodie pockets. He stood beside Logan’s chair, placing a hand on the top left of it. He saw Logan’s movements stiffen a bit, but otherwise stay the same.
He turned the chair so Logan was facing him. Logan’s eyes widened, his pen dropped from his hands, and he stopped moving.
Virgil tilted the chair back, and he leaned over Logan.
“You love me, don’t you?”
“It appears so.”
Virgil chuckled, getting closer to Logan.
“You’re adorable, you know that?” Virgil teased.
Logan shook his head no in protest.
Virgil laughed. “If you say so. You’re already hot so I guess it’s unfair for you to be both.”
Logan’s cheeks flushed. There was a silence as the two just stared at each other for a moment.
Virgil’s eyes flickered to Logan’s lips.
“Would you mind if I kissed you?” Virgil murmured quietly.
“No,” Logan replied.
Virgil smiled, and—still tilting Logan’s chair back—kissed him like he was the most important thing in the world.
And to each other, that was exactly what they were.

Reality - Thomxiety Vore
Virgil never thought he’d ever end up in the physical world, one of his worst nightmares, but thank goodness Thomas has a solution.
Ship: Thomas (Character) x Prey!Virgil
Word Count: 3.5k
tw: very detailed vore, implied digestion
--------------------
It was around six o’clock when the sun slowly started to rise from its slumber and start to brighten the day. The sky turned a light blue as morning came to wake everyone up. Thomas’ room was quiet as usual, nothing disturbing his sleep from last night. Though, while in a dream, he noticed he didn’t feel quite like himself. It almost felt like a part of him had vanished, but he simply pushed those thoughts to the side, thinking it might’ve just been Remus messing with him again like usual. By the morning, he’d feel okay, right?
The warm, moving floor suddenly woke up Virgil, too sleepy to really process what was happening. Slowly, he glanced around realizing this wasn’t the last place he slept. Confusion only filled his racing head. “Where in the world am I?” Virgil thought, a bit of anxiety starting to flow through him. Looking up, he saw what seemed to be a large fabric on top of him. The warmth between the moving floor and the giant piece of fabric seemed to try and make him fall asleep. Though, suddenly, a sharp realization hit him. As farfetched as his idea was, it only seemed to be the most reasonable explanation. It seemed to be the only explanation! As scared as he was, he begrudgingly tried to crawl his way out from under the gigantic fabric that was keeping him trapped.
As soon as Virgil saw an opening, he quickly crawled out into the light. A chillness instantly hit him as he crawled out and it took a while for his eyes to properly adjust. But as soon as his eyes adjusted, he wanted to go back under the blankets as he saw the giant head of Thomas. The moving floor he was crawling on must’ve been Thomas’ stomach and the big fabric was the blanket. The small side shook in fear. He never remembered being summoned. Had his nightmares come to life? Quickly, he slapped his face, hoping to knock some sense into himself but it only hurt. Hurt!? Being hurt physically only happened to Thomas. Since all the sides were in Thomas’ mind, they couldn’t physically get hurt. He touched the cheek he slapped and noticed that it was still sore. This was a living nightmare… He got stuck into reality…
“T-T-Thomas?” Virgil stuttered as he stood up on top of Thomas’ chest. Looking down, he saw how Thomas’ chest moved up and down with each breath the giant took in his slumber. He slowly walked over toward the massive head, shaking a bit due to the moving chest below him. “Thomas?” He whispered, even more quieter than the last. The fear inside him tried to take over but he made sure to keep some composure and maybe figure out what exactly was happening. Momentarily, he glanced to the giant window that he had seen many times before in the morning when Thomas would get out of bed, but now seeing it with his own eyes felt weird. All the sides were able to tune into what Thomas was looking at but to see with his own eyes while Thomas was sound asleep was quite scary.
Virgil knew quite a few of the sides would love to have a physical body instead of being stuck in Thomas’ mind all day every day, but a lot of things about reality scared him. He’d have to manage without the other sides if he wanted to live in Thomas’ reality. Physically getting hurt was something he never wished to experience, and he intended to keep that. As crazy as it sounded, he wanted to stay inside Thomas’ mind where all he needed to deal with was his emotional hurt. The small side continued to walk toward Thomas’ face, a scrap of hope keeping him from breaking down.
Virgil finally made it up to Thomas’ face and gently touched the bottom of his chin. Fear flowed all over his body as he touched the bottom of Thomas' smooth chin, though he wasn't entirely sure why he felt so scared near Thomas. He knew this person for his entire life! He was a part of him! So why was he trembling now? His tiny feet felt Thomas’ heartbeat underneath him, making his whole body seem to pulse in rhythm with it. Out of curiosity, he placed two fingers to his neck, mesmerized at how in sync their heartbeats were. It calmed him down a bit more and gave him the courage to finally try and wake up Thomas.
Quickly, Virgil tried to scramble up his chin but soon fell. He once again tried to climb up onto Thomas’ face. It felt he finally got a foothold until his foot suddenly slipped and he tumbled down onto the bed. It took him a moment to know where he was. A dizziness in his head made him feel like his body was twisting and turning in all the wrong directions and his head only seemed to grow heavier as he tried to stand. Finally, after a full minute, he was able to see where he was.
Virgil’s world felt like it completely crashed down as he looked up at the giant. He knew it was only Thomas, but tears quickly started to flow down to the bed. Instinctively, he backed away, his nerves completely acting up, making him see only a giant who could hurt him in this giant world. As he continued to back up, Thomas started to wake up and slowly sat up. The tiny legs that carried Virgil failed him, feeling too weak to even stand up. He crawled backwards, wanting to get away as far away from the giant as possible. Tears completely covered his vision, the giant’s fast movements scaring him. It scared him so much that his hand slipped once again, and he started to tumble off the bed.
Frantically, Virgil grabbed on to the bedsheets, the height of where he was terrifying him. His head pounded and rang, only heightening his anxiety and fear. The floor to him was a death sentence, and if he let go, he knew he was done for. He used up every ounce of strength in his body to try and pull himself back up, but it was no use. The small side dangled into what seemed like death itself waiting for him to drop into the abyss. Finally, he felt the bed suddenly bounce from the giant crashing back down onto the bed, making him let go and finally fall to the ground.
Time seemed to slow down as Virgil’s tiny body fell. In his heart, he was convinced no one would save him from his perilous fall. Doom only seemed to lure him further to the ground until something abruptly stopped his descent. He shook his head, confused at what just exactly happened but soon noticed the uncanny amount of warmth he felt while laying down. Once he got his senses back together, realization hit him. The enormous fingers seemed to tower over him as he was lifted up close to the giant’s face. He cowered, scrunching up into a ball, crying into his knees, the salty tear dripping down onto the ferocious beast that held him. Instead of falling to his death, maybe this would be the end of him. He only hoped it would be quick.
“Virgil?”, Virgil heard the giant say in the most concerned voice he’d ever heard. How did they know his name? They called out his name again, making the small side cower even more. The constant pounding from his head plus the dizziness that spread through his tiny body made it hard for him to think much at all, but after a good minute, the giant’s voice sounded soothing, and almost familiar… A warmth completely wrapped him that he hadn’t expected, and he heard the thump of something nearby. It was something he’d hear when one of the other sides would embrace him when he wasn’t feeling all that good.
“Virgil? Are you okay?” The giant said again. Virgil, as much as he thought it’d hurt him, dared to look up at the giant’s face, and suddenly the hazy, black mist that concealed his eyes from seeing the truth, uncovered a beady eyed Thomas Sanders. A sigh of relief filled his lungs as he smiled and continued to look up at his host. Never in his life did he think just seeing Thomas would fill him with such joy. He cuddled into his chest and cried again, not because of an overwhelming fear, but because he had finally found some solace in what felt like an inescapable situation. No longer did he feel scared in this gentle giant’s grasp but only the tender love of someone he knew would never try to hurt him.
Both Thomas and Virgil simply enjoyed each other’s presence for a few minutes, both wanting to calm down from the situation. Thomas gently started to pet Virgil with his index finger and Virgil quickly leaned into it, the pure bliss of comfort taking over his whole body. It almost felt like everything was still normal and he was still in his room in Thomas’ mind. He really wished it were like that, but reality soon came back to him. He had to get back in Thomas’ mind, but how?
“Are you good now, Virgil?” Thomas asked, his voice as soft as the moon rising.
“I-… I’m good now,” Virgil said to his giant friend.
“Why don’t we get some breakfast to eat?”
~~~~~~~~~~
Virgil sat down on Thomas’ table as he cooked some pancakes and bacon for both of them. His stomach was grumbling for something to eat and it would be nice to have a full belly before he talked to Thomas about how to get back in his head. He couldn’t wait to go back, even if it meant dealing with all the other sides’ company again. Suddenly, the thought of Patton popped into his head. “I wonder if they’re worried that I’m gone…” he thought to himself, “I wonder if they’ve even notice I’m missing…” He looked down at the table trying not to entertain the thought lest he cry and break down again.
The scent of pancakes and bacon filled the air as Thomas brought over breakfast. His stomach growled, having wanted something to eat since they came downstairs. He smiled when Thomas placed the giant tea plate with food next to him. The food also seemed to be small enough so he could easily eat. Thomas soon sat down just across from Virgil with his regular sized plate, which looked enormous compared to his size.
“Sorry I couldn’t find any plates that were for your size, but I hope the tea plate’s fine,” Thomas said, his voice a bit groggy from his tiredness.
“It’s okay… Thanks for making me breakfast,” Virgil said, yawning.
Virgil soon took a bite at his awaiting pancakes and bacon. Instantly, joy rushed through his entire tiny body. Something about eating like this, in the physical world, made the food taste more enjoyable. He practically scarfed down everything off his plate at once without uttering a single word to Thomas. The other simply looked in awe at just how fast he was eating. Even though he was still tiny, he certainly still had much strength. He continued to eat and waited until Virgil was done.
After a good ten minutes, both were done eating their hearty breakfast. Thomas simply smiled at Virgil, wanting to make him feel as welcomed as possible, even with the situation they were both in. Virgil was laying down on the table after he ate but soon sat back up, only to see Thomas warmly smile at him. A blush quickly covered his entire tiny face, and he tried to hide it, even though it was very obvious his face was bright red.
“Are you full now, Virgil?” Thomas said, his voice tender and sweet.
“I-I’m good… Sorry for stuffing my face so quickly…” Virgil squeaked, his voice a bit shaky.
“It’s okay… Sometimes I do that, too! Now, about how to get back in my head…”
~~~~~~~~~~
Both Thomas and Virgil had a great time together that day, watching movies, playing games, and simply talking to each other. As anxious as Virgil was being completely separate from Thomas’ mind, he knew Thomas did his best to make him feel comfortable and safe from harm. Not once did he feel in danger from the outside world. The soft glow of the moon soon filled Thomas’ room, illuminating the place. It felt almost magical to Virgil, even though he’d seen the moon countless times. Virgil continued to look out at the full moon with Thomas near his window. Just for this alone, maybe it was worth staying here in reality.
Soon, Virgil felt Thomas move and slowly lay on his bed. He was gently set on Thomas’ big chest and felt their enormous heart thump under him. It was something he would certainly remember with his time with this gentle giant. Soon, he looked up at their gigantic, loving face and spoke.
“So, you’re completely sure this’ll work? And I’ll be fine?” Virgil asked, of course, still anxious about the whole idea.
“I promise nothing will hurt you…” Thomas said softly.
Virgil looked down at Thomas’s chest as he sat. He tried hard not to think about the horrible ways this could go wrong, but his mind couldn’t help but torment him, the most gruesome of ways his life could end. A surge of confusing emotions filled him, making him shake a little. Suddenly, he felt himself being touched.
“I love you, Virgil…” Thomas whispered as he planted a gentle kiss on the tiny boy, “We can start whenever you’re ready…”
Virgil’s tiny face turned bright red, contrasting with the cool colors of the room. Never in his life did he ever think someone would kiss him at all! Though the small kiss Thomas gave him only lasted for a few seconds, he knew the love and sweetness that was there would last for a lifetime. Finally, he lifted his tiny head up to look at Thomas.
“I’m ready,” he said while nodding.
And with that, Thomas gently scooped Virgil off his chest. Virgil’s tiny heart raced, not out of fear, but from wonder and awe as he was lifted up to the bigger one’s lips, the ones that lovingly kissed him. Soon, Thomas’s maw opened up, a hot breath washing over his whole body. From his angle, he could see every part of their mouth clearly and noticed just how beautiful it was. Their teeth were almost a pure white, their tongue looked as soft as a marshmallow, and not a single bite mark or injury lined the inside of their cheeks. As much as he wanted to admire Thomas’ beautiful mouth from afar, he knew he’d have to go in sooner or later, or he’d be stuck in this physical world. So, without anymore hesitation, he crawled into their warm mouth and was covered in darkness.
Thomas felt Virgil finally go into his mouth, and, instantly, he was hit with a rich mocha flavor with a hint of bitterness on his tongue. Out of all the sides who have accidentally appeared in his reality, he never had a side that tasted so intense and so good. He truly could keep Virgil in his mouth all day without a problem if he could. Soon, he felt them almost melt in his mouth, simply relaxing on top of his own tongue. Though he didn’t want to interrupt their relaxation, he did need to get them down to his stomach eventually, so he started to gently lick and roll them around in his mouth. This only made their sweet, mocha flavor even more intense and his mouth started to water.
The sudden movement startled Virgil a bit but he soon started to laugh, the licking tickling him. He would’ve tried to stop or push the tongue away, but he felt so happy that he simply didn’t care. In fact, this made him even like being in Thomas’ mouth, as weird as it sounded to him. Suddenly, he felt Thomas squish him to the roof of his mouth, making him start to giggle again. Something about this just felt so calm to him. A hum soon echoed through their mouth, making him blush. It was nice seeing that Thomas was enjoying this as much as he was. Finally, their tongue stopped pressing him up against the roof of their mouth and he started to slowly slide down to the entrance of their throat.
Virgil looked down the dark abyss that was Thomas’ throat. A spike of fear ran through his body as he tried to process what was happening. He tried to convince himself that it would be safe, and he’d be fine. But he quickly shook his head. “This is safe…” he thought to himself, “Thomas would never hurt me…” With that, he felt their head tip more and he felt his legs being swallowed down first. The muscles seemed to tightly hold on to his legs as he tried to calm down a bit more. Another swallow brought him down to his chest, only his head poking out. He looked around, taking in his surroundings before finally disappearing into their throat.
A small bulge formed as Thomas swallowed down Virgil. He gently touched and followed their small body until they disappeared down into his chest. There was a bit of squirming he felt but he didn’t mind. His throat must’ve been tight after all. Virgil, on the other hand, noticed just how clearly he could hear Thomas’ heartbeat and breathing, both calming him down as he continued to descend down to his stomach. As much as he’d thought this would be uncomfortable, this was rather soothing for him. The muscles seemed to only massage him instead of crush him which was what he thought would happen. Suddenly, his feet seemed to enter into an open space. Soon followed his legs then his whole body, finally falling down into the large stomach.
Once Virgil sat up, he was completely mesmerized at how Thomas’ stomach felt. It was quite dark so he couldn’t see very well but he could tell what it would look like from the folds of the stomach walls and hearing the drops of mucus drip to the floor. Soon, he stood up, amazed by how safe he felt inside them. He noticed there was a tiny pool of liquid he was standing in, but he didn’t mind it much since it didn’t hurt him. Though, there wasn’t much to see, he could feel his way around the large stomach. Gently, he pressed a hand to the walls of the stomach to guide him as he walked around. Something about it just felt so comforting, felling all the little bends and folds throughout it. Suddenly, a large hum rang through not long after he touched the stomach walls. It took him a bit but soon realized it was a hum of joy from Thomas. It must’ve felt like he was rubbing him from the outside.
Virgil gently laid down, the walls’ folds embracing him. With one hand, he started to rub at the soft walls of Thomas’ stomach, hoping the other would enjoy it. Instantly, another hum rang through the wet cave, making him smile. Suddenly, he felt a pressure from the walls gently lift him up a bit, and he simply smiled more as he realized Thomas was rubbing where he was. He snuggled into their stomach walls where they rubbed his tiny body and he let himself relax into the folds.
“Are you good down there?” Virgil heard Thomas ask, the voicing echoing throughout the stomach.
“I’m good! It’s… very nice down here!” Virgil said as he continued to rub Thomas.
The warmth of the stomach finally started to lull Virgil, making him yawn and snuggle into the walls more. It almost felt like a blanket was wrapped around him as his eyes grew heavy. It almost seemed like he was melting into the stomach walls. A sense of bliss washed over him as he cuddled into the stomach walls one last time.
“Good night, Virgil…” Thomas said as he felt Virgil snuggle into the walls.
“Good night, Thomas…” Virgil said as he finally closed his eyes and slept.
~~~~~~~~~~
Light shone through the window as sunrise came. It illuminated the entire living room with its sweet and warm glow. Not a howl from the wind or a drop from the rain echoed inside the living room. All was still and quiet, until Virgil finally awoke, and noticed he was laying on the living room couch.
“Virgil!” He heard Logan, Patton, and Roman scream in unison. He was tackled and absolutely smothered in affection from all the sides at once.
“Are you okay, Virgil? We saw everything!” Patton exclaimed out.
“Are you in any distress?” Logan chimed in.
“I-… Okay I missed you, you emo,” Roman said calmly with a smile.
“I mean, apart from all of you screaming my name, I’m pretty fine,” Virgil said.
And with that, they all decided to eat some breakfast, happy that Virgil was safe and back home.
My Writing Masterpost
Virgil’s head was spinning. His stomach lurched, anxiety spiking and turning his blood to fire. He wondered, distantly, if this was what it was like to give way to insanity.
He was in love.
It wasn’t at all his choice to be in such a state. He’d never wanted to fall for anyone…or at least that’s what he’d told himself. For a very long time, he’d decided that it would be the most practical to live his self-sufficiently. After all, relying on other people got messy, and Virgil wasn’t looking for a mess he’d inevitably be tasked with cleaning up. In all honesty, he didn’t believe he’d be granted the luxury to be put in such a situation, even if he wanted to.
He’d never been very good with people, enjoying the company of very few and knowing even fewer people who enjoyed his company. As far as he was concerned, Virgil simply wasn’t very enjoyable to most people, and as such, he was convinced he and love were two separate entities entirely.
That was until Roman Knightly had waltzed into his life.
In the beginning, it had felt like a bad dream where he was tortured by a man who failed to grasp the concept of personal space. His first impression of Roman was that he was loud, obnoxious, more than a little self-absorbed and a real pain in the ass, observations that all turned out to be true to some extent. With that being said, he was also very cute, and unfortunately, Virgil was very, very gay.
They’d met at a club, of all places – what the hell had Virgil Storm been doing at a club? – a fact that would forever amuse him. With how well Virgil did around people, which was to say utterly horribly, it was no surprise that he also didn’t fare well in social scenarios. Virgil wouldn’t be caught dead in a place like that – or at least, not usually. The only problem was, one of Virgil’s only real friends, Patton, had dragged him along with him.
For the life of him, Virgil would never understand how anyone as kind and sweet as Patton would put up with someone like him. He’d tried to get it through the man’s skill that there were ever so many better options for a best friend out there, but damn it, Patton stuck by him stubborn as ever, and honestly, Virgil wasn’t complaining. He loved the guy and couldn’t imagine hanging out with anyone else, despite all of the terrible puns Virgil pretended not to laugh at.
Having such a wonderful friend, however, came with some serious consequences, going out and socializing being a major one. He really hadn’t wanted to be in that club that stunk of booze and sweaty, horny people grinding against one another – which normally would’ve surely driven Patton up the wall, but he was busy flirting with some guy he’d met a while ago who happened to be there. With Patton preoccupied talking to the guy, Virgil was left on his own.
In this setting, Virgil felt more out of his element than ever. Everyone was all flirty, talking and dancing, and then there was him: standing in the corner, trying to avoid any and all attention. Unfortunately, this hasn’t worked in the least bit because before he knew it a tall, handsome guy was leaning against the wall with a positively punchable smolder on his face. And Jesus was his line cheesy! Did it hurt when he fell from Heaven? Yuck!
Virgil tried to tell the guy, Roman, to get lost but the damned smile that had stuck to his face seemed to give off the wrong impression. This Roman guy was not walking away and trying to flirt with someone else and it only heightened Virgil’s anxiety.
He didn’t know what he was doing at all, because even if he found Roman the least bit attractive – which he totally didn’t! – he didn’t know what the hell he was supposed to do. No one had really wanted to talk to him for this long, save for Patton, and he wasn’t quite sure what was supposed to happen from here. His chest was tightening, face red and hot to the touch, and, God he felt like he was going to lose consciousness or something!
The rest of the night was a hazy blur of anxiety and alcohol. He remembered Roman dragging him by the hand onto the dancefloor. He recalled wearing a stupid fucking smile on his face, and he remembered, for whatever reason, not actually wanting to go home. But the thing that was the most unbelievable was the fact that he’d gone home with Roman’s phone number, a number he’d surely be waaay too nervous to even think of using.
As it turned out, though, he’d given Roman his number as well.
From there on the two began talking on the phone, much to Virgil’s nervousness. And from there was their first date, where somehow Virgil had managed not to pass out at any point; score! Amazingly, there was a second after that, and a third, and a fourth, and a whole bunch after that. And even after all that, he’d still managed not to screw everything up.
It was a blink of an eye before the couple was living together, closer than Virgil had ever been to anyone in his life. He just…he couldn’t believe how well things had gone. Though they had arguments from time to time, it always ended in an apology and a bone-crushing hug. Nothing had gone wrong from for them, and it seemed that was what frightened him the most. Virgil was, to his utter dismay, stupidly in love.
He’d never pegged himself as the guy who got the fairytale ending. But now here he was with this great guy who he adored with his entire heart, and he didn’t know what to do. It would get ugly eventually, right? It had to; Virgil wasn’t lucky enough for anything else. Even so…Roman said he loved him constantly. He showed it too, with massively grand gestures and dinner dates and just plain human affection. Goddamn, Roman was affectionate.
Roman made him weak, and Virgil loathed his own weakness. He didn’t want to rely so heavily on someone, to need him the way he did. As much as he’d wanted to be able to be on his own, that dream couldn’t live any longer. It was no real dream, to begin with; a previous coping mechanism, but certainly not a dream. Because damn it all, he’d fallen so fucking hard for this boy and he wasn’t getting out of it any time soon. With that being said, he’d gotten some twisted insane idea stuck in his head and it was driving him insane.
He was considering proposing to Roman.
See? Crazy. But the whole ‘considering it’ thing had become a full-blown plan with a ring and memorized speech before Virgil knew what happened. He was sure that he was losing his marbles; he was actually going to go through with this.
He’d never wanted to grow so attached to someone, and despite everything, it had happened and if he could help it, he wasn’t going to let it go.
“Virgil, darling, is something the matter?” Roman asked, arching an eyebrow as he placed a hand on Virgil’s, resulting in a flinch and his heart squeezing in his chest. They sat on a blanket in the park, their picnic having been finished as the sun began to set and the sky was painted in oranges and pinks.
“No – no,” Virgil swallowed down his nerves, trying his hand at a nervous smile, “I’m fine.”
Roman titled his head in disbelief, seeing right through Virgil’s sorry attempt at playing it cool.
“Bullshit, Hot Topic. What’s really going on?” He asked, eyeing Virgil carefully. The emo shuddered under the gaze.
Now or never, Virgil. Come on, don’t chicken out now, he thought to himself, resting a hand on his hoodie pocket with a very important object stuffed inside. He took a deep, shuddery breath before grabbing Roman’s hand and lacing their fingers together, squeezing tightly. He tried to smile again, looking deeply into Roman’s eyes that narrowed in confusion.
“Ro…I…I really, really love you. L-like, a lot.”
A smile of endearment played across Roman’s face as he nodded, bringing their clasped hands to his lips and pressing a kiss to Virgil’s knuckles.
“I know, dearest,” he said, chuckling lightly, “I love you too. Like a lot,” he added. After a moment, though, he realized just how bright red Virgil’s face had become as well as the fact that he was beginning to tremble. “Virgil, are you okay? You seem nervous – I’m not making you nervous, am I?” Virgil swallowed the lump in his throat, clutching his pocket with his free hand.
“Roman, I can’t believe we’ve been together as long as we have. T-three years. Damn. That’s – that’s way longer than I thought a-anyone could put up with me,” Virgil spoke through a strained laugh, trying to remember everything he’d planned on expressing but finding himself unable, his heart pounding in his chest.
“Virgil?”
Suddenly, with a final nervous flinch, Virgil managed to knock the small black box out of his pocket which landed unceremoniously in the grass. Shiiit. Roman had seen it, there was no backing out now. Roman’s face went sheet-white, a trembling hand picking up and opening the box with slow, flickering movements. He let out a loud, squeaky gasp as he caught sight of the gold band with the red stone glimmering in the fading daylight.
“V-Virgil…?” He tried to formulate some kind of a coherent sentence as he held the box in his hand, tears already forming in his eyes as he stared incredulously at his boyfriend, his face slack with shock. Virgil swallowed, trying to regain his bearings somewhat, his shaking hand still clutching Roman’s.
“This – this was supposed to g-go a lot smoother. Fuck. I – I was supposed to k-know what to say, b-but I’m –.”
“Hey, hey, no. You’re doing so well, darling! Keep going,” Roman interrupted encouragingly in an awed voice, a watery laugh escaping his lips as he wore a smile so wide it threatened to split his face in two. Virgil nodded slowly, anxious but determined.
“R-Roman you make me so, so happy a-and even though that scares me sometimes, it’s – it’s also so nice. I don’t ever want to lose that, i-if I can help it. I didn’t ever think I was the guy who was going to find love or a h-happy ending – but then there you were. You’re my happy ending, Roman, and I love you with everything I have. So I was wondering, i-if you wanted to if you’d marry me? I’m sorry, this i-isn’t coming out ri –!”
Virgil’s rambling was promptly interrupted by Roman’s lips pressed to is with more force than necessary, pushing both of them into the grass. He felt the tension dissipate as Roman kissed him with more passion than he thought possible, his hands threading through Virgil’s faded purple hair.
“I assume I can take that as a yes?” Virgil managed to choke out when Roman pulled back, laughing boisterously, tears of mirth streaming down his face as he pressed his forehead to Virgil’s.
“Yes. Yes, of course, I’ll marry you! I love you, Virgil, darling! Oh, I love you!” He cried passionately, pressing kiss after kiss to Virgil’s face. Virgil laughed loud and hard, knowing his tears were causing his makeup to run, not that he cared.
They held tight to each other, lying in the grass after Virgil placed the ring on his boyfriend’s – scratch that, fiancé – finger, the gem sparkling.
“How dare you be the one to propose?!” Roman asked after a long moment of content silent, earning a chuckle from Virgil that rumbled with amusement, “I was planning on doing it soon! I didn’t have the ring yet – but I was going to!” Roman exclaimed, laying against his fiancé’s chest with his arms looped around his waist. Virgil exhaled deeply, a smile etched onto his face he half-believed to be permanent at this point.
“Too slow, Princey,” Virgil said, snickering at the pout Roman’s face twisted into, “But seriously, that’s kinda amazing. Here I was, afraid you might say no or something, and you were gonna propose to me yourself,” he added, muttering the second half.
“What?” Roman’s voice was thick with shock, “In what twisted reality would I say no?! I love you, Storm-cloud, more than anything. Marriage was always the end goal for me.” Virgil shrugged, leaning to face his lover.
“I dunno. You know how I am, anxious about literally everything and it’s not like it really went according to plan. I was chocking the moment I started.” Roman shook his head, scotching closer and leaning up to press his lips to Virgil’s.
“Not even close, darling. You did wonderfully.”
And though Virgil couldn’t agree, he was sure glad Roman thought so. Virgil had never expected to live a life so dependent on someone else, telling himself for years how detestable such an idea was. But lying here with Roman now, for once, he gave way to the unexpected, opening the future with open arms.
Monsters
Fandom: Sanders Sides
Prompt: monsters
Warnings: Deceit, Remus, vomit
Pairing: Romantic Dukeceit -> Anxceitmus
Words: 1,892
@sanderssidescelebrations sorry I just couldn’t think of a good title for this one. In other news, I may eventually write more off this prompt as a kind of backstory because I have a lot of ideas now. ANYWHO, here ya go!
“Are you okay, Virgil?” said Patton’s gentle voice. Virgil jumped, then groaned, then took a giant swig of his mostly espresso coffee. He gave Patton’s general direction a despondent thumbs up and carefully put his head back on the table. Patton rubbed his back soothingly, and Virgil could imagine the cooing noises he would make.
“Is he hung over?” came Roman’s deep rumble of a voice. He threw himself down at the table with them, and Virgil could feel all the way down his spine as Roman’s chair and Remus’s were pulled back from the table with a screech. He groaned again and put his arms over his head as though that would block out the noise anymore than his boxy, noise-canceling headphones already were.
“He’s not feeling well?” Patton suggested. “I’m not really sure. He’s only communicating with grunts and groans.” Patton continued rubbing Virgil’s back. Virgil wished he was hung over like Princey thought. At least then there would be an end to this eternal torment. As it was, Virgil kind of wanted to gouge out his eyes and his eardrums. That could solve the problem of the massive migraine that was currently trying to kill him. But hey, the screams of hundreds of unrested souls could do that to a person.
“Well, I don’t know why else he’d be wearing sunglasses inside and with giant headphones on if he’s not hung over,” Roman said. Virgil wished he was hung over. If he was hung over, it would stop eventually.
“Migraine,” Virgil grumbled, face smashing into the table. He could feel the rumble of sympathy coming from Patton as he said something Virgil didn’t quite catch. He sat up slightly and drained the rest of his drink. He shoved the empty cup toward Remus. “More?”
“Should you really be drinking caffeine, though, since it makes your anxiety worse?” Roman asked, clapping a hand over Remus’s mouth to stop whatever was about to come spewing out. “Wouldn’t that just, I don’t know, make your headache worse, too?”
“What about caffeine?” asked Logan, taking the seat on Virgil’s other side. Roman repeated himself and Virgil tried his best not to puke from how the world was spinning around him even with his eyes shut and hidden behind dark sunglasses he’d gotten (read: stolen) from his roommate.
“Actually,” Logan said, voice cutting through Virgil’s headphones with a precision that made Virgil wince, “caffeine is a key ingredient in many migraine medications. It is clinically proven to help. And while the unfortunate, unintended side effect of heightened anxiety does occur with Virgil, it’s fair that he get to choose whether or not that’s worth it.”
“More,” Virgil grumbled again. Remus jumped up from the table and disappeared from Virgil’s limited hearing. More talking commenced around the table, and Virgil began singing a song in his head so that he could block out any wayward stimulation that decided to provoke his already pounding head.
Another chair was pulled out from the table, with a considerable amount of grace that all the other chairs had lacked, and that is how Virgil knew that Dee was there, and also that all of his friends had managed to find him slumped in a cafe, halfway between purgatory and hell. As was the life of a clairvoyant with shit luck. Virgil preferred to take his suffering alone with a side of lonely, thank you very much.
When Remus dropped the drink down in front of Virgil, he almost cried with relief and immediately began chugging it. Maybe, if life were so kind, Virgil could subsist on a diet of solely caffeine and noodles. It hadn’t worked yet, but there was still time to try.
“Bad day?” That was Dee’s voice, smooth and barely loud enough that Virgil could hear it. He winced anyway and nodded as he carefully dropped his head back onto the table. Nothing more was said that Virgil heard, and slowly but surely, the screams died down, too. It was almost peaceful and with his eyes shut to block out any unsavory spirits he may see he could imagine he was somewhere that wasn’t crowded with spirits.
Until a loud shriek of ”Help me, Virgil!” sound next to his ear and Virgil jumped so violently that his headphones flew off. Virgil winced again as the sound of every spirit in a hundred yard radius began assaulting his eardrums. The movement was so sudden that is sent the world tilt-a-whirling again and Virgil knew without a doubt that something regrettable was going to happen.
“Virgil, are you-”
“I’m going to be sick,” he gasped and staggered from the table. He slammed the bathroom door opened and dropped to his knees in front of the first toilet. Everything he’d eaten in the last day was coming up, and there was a hand on his back which could have been anyone and Virgil couldn’t even find it in himself to be embarrassed.
When he was done, the person behind him leaned forward to peer into the toilet and said, “Do you not chew your spaghetti? I could chew it for you and feed you like a bird.” Virgil let out a hiccup of a laugh, feeling the tiniest bit better. There was only one person he knew who would say something like that.
“Shut up,” Virgil groaned. He could barely hear anything over the dead. Reality felt kind of fuzzy which was probably not what it was supposed to be doing, but who was Virgil to argue with the universe? Certainly not the person the universe had fucked over with stupid psychic-seeing-the-dead powers from the day he was born.
Oh, wait, he actually was.
“Are you okay?” Remus asked. Virgil spit up the rest of what was in his stomach. “I think that’s a no. What’s wrong, Stormcloud?”
“It’s too loud,” Virgil said without thinking about it. Then he tensed up and puked again. Now Remus would think he was crazy because it probably didn’t sound loud in an empty bathroom to him.
“What do you mean?” Remus asked, wrapping an arm around Virgil. He might be done puking, he wasn’t sure, but he could tell that Remus was worried about him now because he wasn’t saying anything repulsive.
And if he’d made Remus worried, well, he sort of owed him the truth. He knew Remus wouldn’t care anyway. He was a werewolf. There was no room to judge.
“Mm-hm,” Virgil hummed. “All the dead people are screaming and I’m going to lose my mind if it doesn’t stop because it’s so fucking loud and-” Virgil stopped abruputly as Remus pulled Virgil toward him. He put Virgil’s head on his chest right above his heart and pressed his hand over top Virgil’s other ear. Suddenly, the only sound in Virgil’s head was the abnormally slow ba-boom, ba-boom of Remus’s heart. It was so loud and it was all Virgil could focus on. There was no screaming, no threats, no begging; just the echo of Remus being alive.
Virgil went limp against him and squeezed his eyes shut. It was the most serene he had felt in his whole life.
“Why, Virgil! You see dead people! Why didn’t you tell me? We could have such a fun time,” rumbled through Remus’s chest. Virgil didn’t say anything. It was quiet for once, he was going to enjoy this until his migraine left him the fuck alone. “Did you know I was a werewolf?” Remus asked. That did, unfortunately, require an answer.
Virgil sat back. “Yeah. So’s Ro, and Dee’s a naga and Pat’s a selkie and Lo’s a fae and my roommate is a vampire who thinks he’s a whole lot better as keeping secrets than he actually is. Sorry I didn’t say anything.” With the screaming back and the nasty visions floating around him and the taste of puke in his mouth, Virgil’s words came out kind of stilted and uneven. It didn’t seem to matter to Remus, who beamed.
“Oh, Virgil, I am happy as a maggot in shit to hear that,” Remus exclaimed. “The only reason Dee and I haven’t asked you out yet was because we didn’t want you to think you were getting into a relationship with humans when we aren’t. Ruined the surprise, I think, but what can you do.”
“Remus,” Virgil said slowly. “Did you just ask me out on the bathroom floor right after I puked in the toilet?”
“I like a guy who can get a little nasty,” Remus said and shimmied his shoulders. Virgil groaned, partly because Remus was ridiculous and partly because he might puke again. “So, what do ya say, Stormcloud?”
“Yes, but not right now because there’s still puke in my mouth,” Virgil said.
“Let’s go get that handled,” Remus suggested, “and then you can come back to our apartment and we can keep all those awful noises away. And then when we wake up tomorrow, Dee can ask you out!” He was grinning manically, and Virgil couldn’t help but laugh. It sounded like a pretty solid plan. Remus helped Virgil stand up and brought him over to the sinks to rinse his mouth out. Virgil took a couple sips of water, but decided that was enough or else he’d be spitting that back up too.
When Remus tried to lead him toward the door, Virgil’s legs gave out from under him. Remus, without hesitating for even a second, scooped Virgil up like a baby. He adjusted them until Virgil’s head was on his chest and Virgil had relaxed slightly.
“Okay?”
“Yeah. Just tired.” Virgil shut his eyes again as Remus carried him out of the bathroom. There was a muffled conversation at the table as somebody put his headphones and sunglasses back on for him, and he faintly heard Remus say, “Virgie’s not a normie either!” followed by exclamations and he did really want to hear what everybody thought, but the next thing he knew, he was being picked up out of a car and carried into an apartment.
“Hey, Virgil,” Dee said, plucking his headphones off for a second. Virgil winced, but it was quieter here, less to see and hear, so he hummed a hello. “Remus said you agreed to come over and I really didn’t want to have to take the headphones off to ask in the middle of the restaurant. Do you need anything? Food? Or water? Sleep?”
“Lights off?” Virgil whispered. “I don’t really sleep much like this. But I like listening to Remus’s heart. It makes all the other noises...stop.” Dee smiled in the softest way Virgil had ever seen, and then went to pull all their curtains closed. Remus sat down on the couch, still cradling Virgil, and situated them so that Virgil’s head was directly over his heart. The slow, steady ba-boom, ba-boom was taking up most of Virgil’s senses again.
“Do you need anything else?” Dee asked quietly. Virgil shook his head, and Dee sat down next to them. There was a quiet rumble as Remus said something Virgil didn’t catch, and then a softer one as Dee responded. Virgil took a deep breath and just focused on Remus’s heartbeat. It let the pain fade to background noise much better than anything else did, and Virgil finally fell asleep to the quiet ba-boom, ba-boom of Remus’s heart.
Random concepts my brain comes up with (or just random things I think of)
I tried to avoid angst (and u!sides) but....I came up with a lot of angst (i think?)....ajdhdh sorryyyyyy
Also....dont question anything pls....im very sleep deprived and dont know anything and dont take anything to seriously
Also....theres very bad english in here so...yeah....
Warning: uh....might be u!sides.....idk ajshxh...itll be in the tags tho
Logan will quote a different school house rock song, everyday, to Virgil
Patton takes Romans sash and puts it around his forehead/waist cuz hes a pirate
Virgil steals Janus' cape and will be an airplane and everytime he passes a side he will say nyooommm
Roman will take Virgils makeup (who has a lot of different colors) and do the other sides makeup
Remus will take Logans glasses and wear them wrong on purpose cuz he knows it annoys Logan
Logan and Deceit don't do anything or take anything cuz theyre the parents™
Its legit canon that they have their own phones......Virgil has a lavender phone case, Logan has a gold case, Roman has a golden phone case, Patton has a red phone case (i think)
Everyday Virgil will give Patton a stone with a tiny piece of paper telling the meaning at the same time...everyday. virgil does this cuz 1. he has too many 2. it gives him smth to do and gets him to be a tiny bit productive
Janus has a bunch of plants a l o t o f p l a n t s like....almost an excessive amount
Dukexiety/tangled au.....repunzal as Virgil and flynn as remus (idk)
Logan t poses almost all the time
The way to tell Patton and Janus apart is that janus knows how babies are made (messenger falcons) and Patton does not
Virgil likes pasta with no sauce (pathta wif nu thathe) (if ya get the reference....good job)
Virgil has yet to have a debate with Patton, Janus and Remus
Every time there is a new disney movie roman will just be...*flappy hands* for like.....a good half hour before actually watching it
The mind vs. the heart is just an old married couple™ fight
"Oh ofc. i never wanted you to feel like you couldnt" like.....the way patton says it....sounds like a mix of Deceits voice and Pattons voice
Anytime the other sides/Thomas has a problem, Logan will dress up as Sherlock...and patton (no matter where he is) will pop up as Watson and the little arguement will happen everytime
Rhythm Redux has hints of Mandy goes to med school
Virgil is pretty short....not by much but still one of the shortest side. When his anxiety heightens, he grows taller for x hours. Then when he calms down, he goes back to his normal height
Remus would practice forbidden fruit all the time, so that when he and Thomas finally met, he wouldnt mess up (cuz ew...who wants tk mess up on their own song?). Sometimes he would scream it, especially when Virgil was around
In moving on pt.1 virgil said "no" and then his hand flew up to cover his mouth...which was deceit
Janus with a flower crown around his hat
Janus has a snek in his hat and its never ending...like a mandelbrot fractal
Logan info dumps about space and Janus is the only one who actually, truly listens
Are there healthy distractions has more analogical....
Logan will carry around a notebook and pen/pencil at all times....especially for Virgil...like...when he gets a panic or anxiety attack...logan will give him the notebook so he doesnt have to talk
Janus has several different bowler hats and the other sides (besides logan and maybe patton?) will steal all of them and hide them
Logan and Roman will watch movies together, purely to rewrite it....virgils there to have a disney debate with Roman
When Thomas gets really anxious, virgil will kick down a door and go through a window, feet first
they are their own villians
whats virgils, janus' and remus' biggest fears? Logan
All of the sides have/need glasses but Logan and Patton are the only ones who actually...wear them...obviously
For virgils birthday, Logan got Virgil a puzzle book (or Christmas)
Virgil met his new years resolution (like...he got it done)
*has to watch beauty and the beast for this one* technically....beauty and the beast isnt Stockholm Syndrom......belle traded herself so her father could be free....the beast never took maurice....he wondered into the castle by himself and got...captured....sooo technically...idk where im going with this ajsjxh
Virgil has a crap ton of funko pops
Everytime Patton goes into Virgils room, he'll come out scared of the curtains
When Roman said "you are nothing compared to the others" and his hand went over his mouth....was that deceit? like....him not wanting Thomas to even know about him or remus yet..or orange side?
"Im not evil" foreshadowing for remus
Patton can yell "i will physically fight you" as loud as logan can yell "falsehood"
Virgil is a Ravenclaw (i think we all knew this tho ajsjdh)
When Logan actually shows sadness (the like....one time he did) the other sides will give him validation (telling him hes right, he cool etc.) and just...give him love (they will also do this with the other sides too)
Logan will pop up and ask Thomas about the picture with circles that is hanging above Thomas's (?) couch.
Logan has yet to actually solve a problem by himself...... hes either used information they already knew, or needed/used the others help (sorry)
Virgils the only one Logans said "sorry" to....he usually says "apologies"
The dark sides have pan(heh) pancake and pillow fights (the darks sides....remus and Virgil and janus just stands there until something gets thrown at him....then he joins)
Every year for their birthday, Roman and Logan will always get a jar (or more) of crofters
Every time Logan has crofters (like...pb&j or toast or smth idkkkkk) he'll keep making puns for an hour straight (gay)
Virgil watched dhmis and got weirded out for like....a week
When Janus is around, Patton and Roman will make a bunch of snake puns and janus will stand there like :|
Logan is allergic to anything "sweet" like....butterfingers
Did....did you guys know...that the cast of sander sides....is...Thomas sanders....i just learned that....thats...crazy wow....when were you guys gonna tell me? (fun fact.....every fricken time thomas yawned in dwit....i yawned)
Virgil researches architecture or like.....studies it?
Remus and/or Janus is/are (?) a ghost....ok remus...
Remus is actually really smart and gets along with Logan pretty well
Virgil was the least...like...responsive(?) after forbidden fruit
Virgils eyes are more red in dwit (could just be Thomas and that he was tired or smth)
Whenever Remus walks past Patton, he'll take off his ears but then put them back on when he goes out of Pattons sight (english who?)
In the bloopers (not really but shhhhh) or smth when Remus knocked Logans teeth out, logan said "figuwawivwy"
Whenever Virgil "sounds the alarm" he (and maybe patton and remus) will go "weoo" for a few minutes as loud as he can
Logan has a baymax plush
Janus is obsessed with Hocus Pocus (despite Logan pointing out all the inconsistencies)
In clbg when patton said yes to thomas when he asked if there are anymore sides that were hidden away from him, he glanced at virgil (and logan) and virgil got super uncomfortable
Janus will always say the "you better watch out" vine
Everytime Logan has an idea, he'll say lightbulb out loud...like...just..."lightbulb" and the other sides just stare at him like.."wha-???" until he explains
Everybody wants to be a light side..?
Whose fault was it, really? He wasn’t sure if there even was anyone to blame. But then again, he knew who he had to blame in order not to break down too much. He had to blame someone and why shouldn’t he?! He’d been blamed all his life! Why shouldn’t he do the same? It may have not exactly been the most moral thing to do, but he wasn’t even supposed to be moral. It wasn’t his department, not even acting according to morals. No, the latter was Roman.
Roman had been the one everything started with, funnily enough. Not right away. No, Roman had been very close to him at first. Roman, the oh-so-perfect prince. Remus had been doing many things with him. Played in the imagination, brainstormed, practiced the lines. Usually Remus would take up the part of the villain and Roman would be the hero. Just barely did Remus play in the same team as Roman, but not because either of them didn’t want him to. No, Remus vividly remembered how awfully bad he had been at being the hero or even the sidekick. He’d tried but it seemed he just wasn’t made for the part. Just as Roman wasn’t a good villain. He may be mean sometimes, even a bully by now. But back then, he had been so guild ridden whenever the game was over and he had had to hurt anyone. Remus had his suspicions that the dramatic, over the top, prince didn’t even notice how much his word could hurt.
And then things changed. For the first time, Remus had felt so lost and alone. Bit by bit the twins had started to drift apart and they both knew it. One and a half year after ”the incident“, as Remus called it, the time spent apart was enough to not know anything about what the other had been up to for a week or two. And then Roman said the words. Called him ”evil“, ”crazy” and ”a monster“. He was the villain to his brother, but this time it wasn’t a game of make believe. This time it was the reality. This time, his brother really wanted him to stay away and get lost. This time, his brother actually left him behind. It had been the last time he had seen Roman for a long time.
But it wasn’t all bad. The dark sides were a close knit bunch. Virgil, Janus, him… They were there for each other, every single time something happened. Remus soon started to act out more than before, simply because he had realized that this got reactions out of his brother. And that felt good. Oh, it felt so, so good. He just wanted to be recognized, in any way possible. And if he couldn’t get Roman to love him, well, then he at least wanted his anger and annoyance and his hate. He wanted his twin in his life in some way.
At some point, Janus set him down. Told him that from now on he would have to hold back or that Janus would have to make him. ”Thomas is affected by the things we do as his sides. You can roam freely in this corner of the mind, but… Well, we… or, I need to keep you a little more quiet.“ Remus understood. He didn’t like it, he resented to hold back, he barely even could, but he understood. At least he got to be himself around Janus and Virgil! They were close to him.
Things with Virgil started probably when Thomas became a teenager. Around the time of his emo-phase. Virgil had a lot of control in that time, he got stronger and kept Thomas safe. Even in situations that weren’t that dangerous. Remus was happy for his friend, of cause. But there just had to be a downside! Virgil himself became more anxious and, through that, more hostile. He pushed Janus and Remus away from him often. Remus hated that. Oh, satan on a stick, how he hated it! It was one of the few instances in which he actually got scared. He usually wasn’t grounded enough to get scared and he was morbidly fascinated with death, gore and torture anyways, but that behavior really got him scared.
Things got better again. After Thomas’ other sides regained more control again, Virgil calmed down. He wasn’t like before and Thomas still had a little heightened anxiety, which meant Virgil was now one of the tallest sides. But at least he would spent more time with his friends again. Still, he was… reserved. Remus couldn’t really understand it and Janus just failed whenever he tried to help. It took a few years for Remus to grasp what was happening, but he got it eventually: They scared Virgil. As much as it hurt, Remus scared him. With every detour, with every dangerous thing he did, with every thought he randomly spoke, with almost everything he did Virgil became more and more scared with him. And Janus? Well, Virgil got paranoid around him. He hated how he could barely tell wether Janus would just say something to sooth him or to hide something, or wether it was actually true. He hated how well Janus could lie. After a while, Virgil even got so paranoid that his voice would crack whenever he talked about lies at all. And then, they weren’t even allowed to help with his panic attacks anymore.
All of this was a slow process. Until he started to talk to Thomas directly more often, in the real world and in the Vlogs. Remus had to confess, he was pretty jealous. Janus wouldn’t allow him to do that. The closes he got was talking to him as a little voice inside of his head. But Virgil would talk to Janus and Remus more again. They would sit at dinner and Virgil would tell all about what had happened. How annoying Roman was, how Logan invalidated his fears, how Thomas didn’t want him around, how Patton was kinda nice but also pretty much unreadable. Virgil didn’t talk much to them anymore other than that, so it was the main thing they would talk about. Remus even gave him a few ideas for nicknames he could use back at Roman. But the anxious emo never did. Said he wasn’t sure that that was justified and didn’t want the others to hate him for it. He did, however, come up with a few original nicknames. Way more harmless than the ones Remus had proposed, but a little bit leaning towards it. Other times Virgil would tell them agate the mistakes he had made and how they wouldn’t ever want him around for sure now. Times like that, Remus really wanted to give them a good smack with the mace. Or other things that would be a tat more bloody, with a tat less body parts attached to the other sides. He never did, though.
One thing Remus and Virgil bonded over was their half-hatred, half-respect for the princely side. Finally something they could agree on again! Even though Virgil was more than little unsettled whenever Remus would start making revenge plans they would never follow through with, they would talk through nights about that complicated relationship.
Until the argument, that was. Remus could remember it very well. Virgil and Janus had had a lot of little quarrels lately and Virgil even stopped calling him by his name. He used ”Deceit“, just like the rest of the sides. It honestly bothered all of them more than they ever acknowledged, but they knew it. It was just the way it was with them. They had been so close once, how ever could things be different? Things like these didn’t have to be said, everyone just knew. And that particular day, Remus just got back from ruining his brother’s day in the imagination, messing everything up. He could here them the moment he closed the door. They were yelling, again. Accusing each other of things, again. Remus wasn’t happy about it, but whatever. Not much he could do and they weren’t going to stay angry at each other for long. In the end, they would forgive each other. Always. At least that was what he thought, until he could actually hear the words.
”-even want you there, and you know it! You’ve said so yourself.“ That was Janus’ voice.
”Maybe not, but they need me.“ Definitely Virgil. The demonic echo was unequivocal.
”Oh, and they don’t need me? Or Remus? Or-”
”No! Don’t you get it? Remus is deep shit crazy and no matter how much we may be friends, he literally throws knifes into your back! He…“
”Virgil, that’s enough.“
”No! If Remus was to go there, Thomas would be traumatized. And you?! You hurt his relationships! Wether you want to or not, and I know you don’t, you two are dangerous. How am I supposed to trust either of you? Hm? And as much as I love both of you, you aren’t a good influence.“
”And you are?! You really think that you are better than us?“
Silence. Eery silence. Remus normally liked silences like this, but not this time around. He was worried. What was happening? What? Deceit’s voice was timid, scared almost, as he finally spoke up again: ”Virgil? Virgil, no, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean-“
”Liar.“ That word was spoken so harshly and so incredibly angry that it took a moment to realize Virgil had said it. Until a door was slammed.
Remus didn’t get to hear his voice again after that. Not for a long time.
Things changed after Virgil was gone. Janus became frantic, angry, irritable. And Remus was alone. He was so, so lonely. It drove him even farther down the dark path. His thoughts got more jumbled and more vicious than ever before. But they were there for each other. Janus and Remus, now only a duo. But they worked. Janus keep him in check and Remus got Janus’ thoughts off of those stupid self-proclaimed ”light sides“. Sometimes Janus would go talk to Thomas and the others. Do his job, go in and out, without anyone noticing. At one point they realized it, though. ”He said we weren’t friends anymore, Remus… He was so… He…“ And that was all Janus managed to get out before he broke down crying. It was only after the second time Janus got discovered as himself that Remus first spoke to Thomas. Thomas had been slaking off in the self-care department recently and Deceit was wounded and angry enough to stay in his room for a while. So he took the chance to take a look around in the real world himself. Janus may not have been all too thrilled, but, well. They got over it quickly. No damage was done, after all. Well, nothing permanent.
So why? Who was to blame for this? Why did he have to watch from inside Thomas’ mind again as another friend of his chose the light sides over him, again, and he was left alone, again?! Why was he always left behind? Was he really that unlovable? Janus didn’t really say that he would stay with the lights now. But you could tell. He got the place at the discussion table. Just like Virgil did back then. Besides, Remus knew Janus. He knew him very well. So he knew what would happen now.
This time, Remus decided, was the worst. Worse than his own brother abandoning him, worse than the one he thought of as another brother abandoning him. Because now? Now he truly was alone and lost and forgotten. Now he really had no one. And the worst of all was that this time, this time came without a warning.
So y’know how Virgil’s voice gets louder when he / Thomas is especially anxious
And y’know how Deceit can silence the others and for the most part speaks only in lies.
What if soon we get an episode (video? what are we calling these?) in which for whatever reason, Thomas is feeling almost uncontrollably anxious and Virgil’s just got the crazy loud, scary voice. The others can hardly speak over him, so they can’t really help. And Deceit just kinda makes Virgil less loud and tells Thomas “you’re okay, everything will be alright.” He is right, but in a moment of such heightened anxiety that would feel like a lie.
Idk fam I should be sleeping rn
I'm an attention whore and I'm milking my popularity
THE SIDES ALL HAVE SOME SORT OF POWER
Now what do I mean? Well we all know deceit has the ability to silence people. We all know that Virgil's emotions thoroughly effects the others and himself, making him sound like a demon in times of high stress. Now let me elaborate.
So Patton, the essence of emotion and the idea of right and wrong, by far the largest amount of a personality to be stuffed into one character. He is by far the most powerful.
Deceit is his other half. Everyone has their polar opposite and deceit is Patton's. Patton is morals and good and real, deceit is lies and fake and pretend. He's very powerful.
Roman is romance and creativity. His power is mostly creation based. He can summon he can build he can create. He's fairly powerful.
Virgil is raw fear and anxiety. His power is... His power is basically he's superman when he has adrenaline. He's strong he's fast he's super human when his fear is heightened. He's pretty frickin powerful.
Logan is your mind. So it makes sense that he is a mind reader. He's good at finding problems and fixing them. He's not very powerful.
Patton's powers are crazy. He has a strong voice and he has the respect. He can manipulate how the others react and feel. He can lessen emotions, or he can worsen them. Logan has been on the short end of the stick often. Patton can only take so much of his harsh rude words before he gets revenge by forcing Logan to deal with his feelings head on. He has full control over the mind palace he can create or destroy anything. He has immense power.
Deceit however has abilities that are contrary. Instead of manipulating emotions, he silences and numbs them. His powers are neutral. He is allusions where Patton is magic. He hides things or creates fake scenarios. He is scary but he doesn't stand a chance against Patton.
Embark - Chapter 3
Chapter Title: Picture Perfect
Word Count: 2,234
Pairing(s): Prinxiety, Side Logicality
Featured: Virgil Petty, Roman Prince, Patton Petty
Chapter Warning(s): Minor Cursing, Fighting, past death implied, self-depricating thoughts.
Synopsis: Virgil goes looking for his phone and finds himself learning more about Roman.
_______
Most people lose their phone under couch cushions, or leave it in plain sight. Most people don't lose their phone in a worn-down abandoned city, far away from any sense of civilisation.
Then again, this whole situation wasn't normal. It was hard for Virgil to figure out what was the most jaring thing about it. Whether it be the fact that he was in a whole other world entirely, the worry eating at him about what's going on outside, or wondering just how he would get out of here- it all made his stomach twist up in knots that grew more and more with each step he took.
However, one thing that really caught him off guard: his princely guide.
Even walking next to him as they passed each building helped add on to his list of questions. Roman was just.. odd. It seemed like he would swing from one emotion to the next, really dramatic and full of himself. He acted like he was actually a king, but there was such fakeness to it- it left Virgil with an unsatisfying amount of unanswered questions in the back of his mind.
Virgil stared as the king opened a double-doored entryway to a rotting wooden building. It matched the other buildings, but seemed shorter and wider in comparison. It also seemed like the place was put to more use in general, not as much of a hollow abandoned building as the others. Not too pretty, either.
"Why would my phone be in here?" Virgil's low voice broke the silence as Roman shoved against the door to get it to open all the way. "I didn't go into any of the buildings, let alone this one.."
The dramatic man let out an excited huff as he shrugged, turning to look at Virgil with those bright green eyes. "My kingdom tends to shift items around. Though things usually find their way here."
"Why? What's so important about this building? It's just rotting away like the others." Virgil's defensive nature was heightened by his anxiety. Others couldn't really know that, though. He sometimes came off as rude.
Roman frowned a bit at that. "I believe this is the greatest building amongst the rest! After all.." he pushed the doors open again with a small huff, his smile plastering his face again with an excited twinkle in his eye. "The theater is always a place to cherish, wouldn't you agree?"
"A theater? I mean.. I guess, I don't really get.." Virgil's words fell short as he stepped inside, his eyes widening a little. "Woah..."
The theater was a lot larger than Virgil had thought. It was a long stride to the grand stage, lines and lines of wooden chairs packing the place. There were upper-level seats that added to the theater experience. But one thing that really took Virgil's breath away was the carving in the interior.
All along the seats, the edge of the stage and along the base were intricate little designs and patterns that elegantly wove into eachother, connecting everything together perfectly. All the carvings seemed to curve it's way up the wall until it reached the ceiling, showing of a grand picture engraved into the wood. An angel, a grand wizard, and a king each posed in conflicting ways, the patterns surrounding them all perfectly.
It took Virgil's breath away. For a place that's in a city like this, it stunned him with how beautiful was. The image made him feel.. well, he didn't know. He just knew it was an intense feeling...
"You seem to like it!"
Virgil jumped as he yanked his eyes away from the woodwork, looking at the whimsical man stand on his stage in full glory. He beamed at Virgil with an eyebrow quirked up, a sassy look in his eye.
"And? It's great woodwork. How could I not admire it?" The emo boy walked towards the stage with his arms crossed. Roman may be annoying, but there was something fun about picking fights with him. A little fun. It's not like he liked this or anything.
His stupid grin seemed to widen as he rested a hand on his hips, looking up at the ceiling. "I'm flattered! Thats probably the first compliment you've given me thus far!"
Virgil stopped as he said this, blinking in surprise. "You.. you carved all of this?"
Roman nodded as he ran a hand through his locks and eyed his work with pride. "Yep! It certainly took a while, but it was worth it."
Virgil couldn't seem to find a word to say. For how dumb Roman seems to be.. this is a shitload of work. How anyone could pull this off on their own seemed outrageous. He actually has.. respect for him?
"I see that I've left you speechless! My, my! Dark and stormy night is impressed by me, I must have exceeded your expectations!"
Nevermind.
Virgil groaned as he made it to the end of the stage, looking up at him with a look of annoyance. "Whatever you say, prick. Help me up."
Roman paused before he smirked, holding out a hand to grip Virgil's. Roman's hands were firm and dry, a warmth to them that he seemed to radiate constantly. It made Virgil feel... secure.
He pushed those feelings aside as he stepped onto the stage, looking into the green eyes. Roman looked back with a look of intent, maybe surprise.. something underneath Virgil couldn't read. He glanced down as he fiddled with his sleeve.
"Why.. the theater?" Roman raised his eyebrows in surprise as Virgil half mumbled the question. "I mean, there's a ton of bigger buildings around here, so.."
The king nodded a little at the question, glancing at the ceiling as he spoke. "Well, I suppose it's due to the fact that I've always been very into theater. I'm not an actor, but I was definitely considered a drama geek in high school."
Virgil raised an eyebrow. "High school?"
He chuckled warmly. "Yes, of course. I didn't drop out or anything. I was in many performances! Musicals were especially close to my heart."
Something about watching Roman ramble about his past left a warm feeling in his gut. He looked so different from when he met him at the throne. Calm, natural.. real. It was like he was talking to a completely different person. Someone he didn't mind talking to.
This also raised more questions, though. Roman went to high school. He was in plays and musicals. He was in the real world, not here. So.. why was he here? How could he want to be here when this ambitious guy could be out there, doing so as much as his heart desires?
Before Virgil could even scratch the surface of that dilemma, a loud buzz startled them both out of their train of thoughts. He glanced back and stepped away from his taller counterpart, spotting his phone just around the corner. Picking it up, he saw that he had received multiple messages.
Roman chuckled softly as he looked back at Virgil with a warm gaze. "Found your phone, I see?"
Virgil couldn't help but smile at little at that. "No shit, captain obvious."
"What! I couldn't see what you were holding. Don't be so mean!" Roman wad grinning like an idiot as he whined. The argument was all in good fun, and they both knew it.
"Yeah, yeah." Virgil opened his phone as he stepped closer to the king, opening up his camera app with a slightly devious grin.
"Say cheese, Prince Charming."
Roman grinned as he winked. "Awe, you think I'm charming~"
Virgil snapped the picture and turned off his phone. "You didn't pose or anything. I thought you were a king."
"Hey! I didn't think- You didn't give me enough time!" Roman huffed as Virgil scooted off the stage.
"I warned you. Now you're doomed with that picture forever, princey!"
"Noooooooo!"
They walked together away from the wooden theater, leaving light footprints in the pounded dirt path. Their teasing could be heard all around, echoing off the empty structures. For once in forever, there was an actual conversation taking place in the world of forgotten oak. It was something to cherish, and to miss when it inevitably fell away.
Before long they were right back where Virgil had started. This time, he wasn't a mess of panic. He was actually smiling, if only a little, his brown eyes much softer. It was so weird that this crazy man was the cause of that.
"All you have to do is walk forward. You should just.. fall back into the real world." Roman explained, giving Virgil a smile with a soft sigh between his teeth.
"And.. you aren't coming?"
"Ah, no.. my kingdom needs me! Besides, I've taken enough of your time already." He paused as he looked at Virgil with those green eyes that he was warming up to. "However.. your visit was greatly appreciated. We've only met once, but this was the most fun I've had in a long time!"
Virgil stared at him as he chuckled almost sadly. Though he didn't have the answers to most of his questions, Virgil did offer him a smile. "I'll come visit again."
Roman's eyes seemed to light up as he stared into Virgil's own, a hopeful look on his face. "You will?"
Virgil couldn't help but chuckle. "Sure, princey. Don't look so hopeful. I'll be back to diss you soon enough."
Still, Roman's smile only grew as he took Virgil's hand. "Well then," he let go of his hands with that lingering warmth, a small peice of reddish bark remaining. "Let that help you get back to me, ok?"
Virgil paused before he smirked and closed his fingers around it. "See you soon, princey."
Roman's smile faded along with his voice as he stepped through the portal. "And you, dark and stormy night."
"Hey, Virge? Can I come in?"
Virgil Petty was 14 years old, his hair grown out over his eyes and his new makeup plastered over his face. His room was dark with the lights off and boxes piled against the walls. He had yet to unpack his dark clothing and decor alike.
Said 14-year-old sighed as he paused his music, slipping his headphones to his shoulders. "Yeah."
Patton stepped into his room, his bright appearance clashing with everything Virgil stood for. But that wasn't new. He was holding a small box that had 'photos' written across in his older brother's messy handwriting.
"Hey kiddo! Just wanted to come in and check on you!"
" 'm fine, Pat. What else do you want?"
Patton chuckled a little as he plopped the box onto his bed, ending the possibility of making this quick. "That's good! I wanted to see if you wanted any of these?"
Virgil raised an eyebrow as he shifted closer, looking into the box. Different pictures of family members, but mostly pictures of their dad.. or their mom.
"No... Hell no, I don't want these Pat. Why would I want these?"
"Well, I dunno, I just-"
"You know how I feel about Jerry-"
"He's your dad, Virgil-"
"He's not my dad!"
"Look, I just wanted to see if you wanted one because you already have two pictures of her and you-"
"So, what?! You think that throwing up pictures of mom and dad will just fix everything?"
"That's not what I meant-"
"I don't care- just shut up and make your scrapbooks! Or leave! or hit me! Be just like him if you think he's such a great dad!"
"Virgil, I-"
"You can't just fix me!"
The 14 year old was shaking as he spat at his brother, tears threatening his eyes. An overwhelming sense of anxiety and anger and pure emotion caused him to surge before he felt a pang of guilt, seeing the look on his brother's face. He turned away, burying his face in his pillow. It's better than facing his brother after that, in his mind.
How could he say that to him? Of all people.. the only one that cared about him was the one he lashed out at. How could you do that, he's your brother! Of course you did, Virgil, you ruin every all the time-
"I don't need to fix you, Virgil."
Virgil felt a soft hand on his back, rubbing up and down in a soothing, familiar way. It helped him breathe.. He didn't realize his breathing was unsteady.
"That doesn't mean you're perfect. I know you know that. I'm not perfect, either. If I was perfect, I could have done so much more. I could have made dad stay, or given you a better life." Patton sighed softly as he sat closer. Virgil didn't mind it.. This was Patton. He was warm and comforting. He was his family.
"I don't know what I'm doing, Virgil. I never have. I know I'm always acting like I've got everything under control, but I.. I'm really just trying to hold it together. Hold us together."
Virgil looked up at Patton with a surprised look. Patton frowned gently, looking at the box of pictures. "It's not bad to want to change. It's not a bad thing to want to break away from what you think is bad. Dad.. He wasn't ever a good dad. And mom.." He sighed as he looked to Virgil with a small smile. "She loved you without ever seeing your face. She was so, so excited to have you."
"Really, Virgil, the point is.. I don't need to fix you. You don't need to be fixed. What I need to do is move on and keep trying.. and what you need to do.. is trust yourself."
Virgil was silent as he sat up, letting his brother continue to rub his back and looking into his eyes with his undivided attention. "That's that hardest thing you can ever do. I know. It's scary.. life is scary as Hell. And you won't do it right away. You will be left with questions unanswered when you need them most. You'll feel alone. But one thing you have is you." Pattons small, emotional, real smile left him feeling warm. "And I believe in you, if nothing else."
It took less than a second for Virgil to be hugging his brother tightly, the 20-year-old's hand tangled in his hair and wrapped around him. The house was quiet accept for the sound of their breathing, and soft sound of crying coming from the usually harsh and dark teen. This was his brother. Virgil didn't know how he deserved such an angel in his life.
"Pat..?" Virgil eventually mumbled as he glanced up at his brother, a sniffle escaping him.
"What is it, kiddo?"
"I'm sorry."
Patton's tired face still help a happiness to it as he stroked Virgils hair, just the way he liked it.
"Never apologize." Patton whispered as he kissed his forehead.
"You will always be my first priority."
Anxiety and depression are so ridiculously closely tied that trained professionals get them mixed up all the time. And they can also coexist. In fact! Recent studies seem to suggest that rather than being completely separate disorders, they might actually be two sides of the same disorder. So honestly, it would make so much sense for him to represent both.
Plus, if Patton represented ALL of Thomas's feelings, Virgil probably wouldn't be a part of the series. Yes, anxiety is an incredibly complicated thing. I've had GAD since I was around 14, so I know how complicated it can be. But at its very core it's a feeling that's so heightened that it starts to mess with your body physically.
But I can definitely see how Virgil could be both! Anxiety is very high energy. Very intense. And often what seems to happen (in my case anyway, I'm not vouching for anyone else here) is that once the anxiety starts to dissipate, my energy crashes and that's when the helplessness and the depression set in. From what I've gathered, that's why experts are now thinking they're part of a linked disorder. Maybe not in all cases, but in a lot. Something crazy like 85%. And we know that Thomas and the team do a lot of research when they're writing, so it wouldn't surprise me if they've read some of the same research and articles I have.
Here's a link to an article I read on the subject. It's actually pretty interesting and makes a lot of good points:
ANGSTY THEORY INCOMING
Whenever Depression is talked or hinted at, the attention shifts to Virgil.
Logan : “The only thing the wedding has to offer Thomas is a potential increase in depression.”
Virgil, immediately :
He was about to make a point there, and try to add to the conversation, about this specific information, but decided to stay silent. Let’s be reminded that this video was probably the one he felt the most uneasy in, seeing how defensive he was against Deceit the whole time he was there.
What’s weirder is that Virgil usually is the one to bring up depression, and pretty comfortably too:
Virgil : “Three. Three depressing speculations. Ah ah ah…”
Virgil : “Being old enough to comprehend depressing realities, but still too young to wrap your head around why things are the way they are, resulted in you becoming… a little try-hard.”
Another thing I would like to point out, in the beginning of MOVING ON, Part ½, Thomas starts out the video by underlying the fact that he’s feeling pretty down.
Thomas : “I- you know- I, I want to really get going and deliver this video with the same pep and bounce that I usually do, but… I don’t know, I mean like… When you’re feeling sad, you’re feeling sad.”
Virgil : “I’ll take Redundant Statements for 400- Wait. Am I the first one to show up? …That’s not good.”
Thomas didn’t feel an ounce of anxiety at that moment, yet Virgil is the one to appear first. Him, and not Patton.
Now why would that happen?
Is like anyone else thinking maybe Virgil is gonna go crazy this episode??
Like we have seen in his room that when his anxieties are heightened his eyeshadow gets darker so maybe his anxieties worsen to the point his entire eyes is surrounded by it and his lips turn black....
No?
