Can you share some of what your planning process for long fics is like? What kind of outlines do you do or what prep do you do to get in the zone?
Thanks for the ask! [Tagging #ridspoilers for minor plot outline, birthday, and alien planet calendar spoilers for Origin of the Pixies, Frayed Knots, and Factor It In]
---
I write on Google Docs; it might not be for everyone but it's what I've found to work well for me after a lifetime of writing (Ex: When I was a kid, I used WordPerfect and Dropbox and it would take hours to sync my documents before a long road trip... I travel between two locations a lot, so these days I just pop open the Google Docs app on my phone or use the Edit Offline extension on my laptop and it's always up to date, which works great for me!)
I also like Google Docs because I can link between documents and have lots of open tabs [along the top of the browser] in "one tab" [along the bottom bar], which isn't something I was able to do as a kid or with Microsoft Word, and it just helps me feel clean.
---
Masterlist Doc [1 per fandom]
I keep all my Fairly OddParents 'fics in a doc titled FOP 'Fic Masterlist. I have my most important resources at the top and they're all broken down with clear labels and doc links.
This way, even if I haven't accessed a doc in a while [meaning it doesn't come up when I type its name in the URL search bar], I always know where I can find it. Also, thanks to my edit offline extension, all I need is this one link and I know I'll be able to open any doc I need.
I have a lot of 'fics, so this doc is several pages. If you've ever read my FFN or AO3 bios and saw that note about how I keep a queued Tumblr post containing links to my unfinished 'fics in case I unexpectedly die, that queued post links to this doc!
You'll also notice that I have distinct scrap docs for Origin, Knots, and the 130 Prompts. I change or cut a lot of stuff and it's nice to keep the old WIPs in case I ever want to look back on them (each of those docs is 25k words just of scraps). Sometimes those scenes get recycled, but usually they just sit there. It's a lot easier to cut things from a story when you have a place to put them and you're not deleting them forever.
[Cnt'd under the cut]

Table of Contents Doc [1 per long 'fic]
All my long 'fics have a table of contents doc, which I highly recommend for anyone doing a large multi-chapter project. I always slap the cover image, a height chart, or a character reference on top to make it pretty, then the doc will contain some notes I might need. For example, Origin's doc has two height charts:
and this-
Makes it easy to know where to find things. Also, you don't have to draw your own height charts, but I recommend keeping a list of heights on hand. Even if you don't tell the reader someone's exact measurements, it's always nice to get a feel for how characters compare to others and whether they should be looking up or down.
Come What May's doc has this screenshot comparison on it, which I put together by measuring different characters who appear next to each other as carefully as I could, and it works too:
Obviously Kevin and Molly never appear in the same episode, but since they're about to become step-siblings in Come What May, it was important to me that I knew how tall they were, so I measured Molly against Timmy and then Timmy against Kevin. Same for Mrs. Crocker, who I measured against Timmy to get a feel for how tall Kevin is compared to his grandma.
I know it's a fanfic so it doesn't really matter, but you have to do self-indulgent things sometimes :)
Frayed Knots also has Sunnie's character reference [i.e. Anti-Cosmo's patron nature spirit, the water dude], which I just want to show off because this is still really good art for something I drew in 2017:
Other things I keep in my table of contents docs are lists of episodes where certain characters appear, random notes that I need to keep track of (like any canonized character addresses or allergies), and chapter title ideas. I also keep track of the starlight levels [i.e. which season it's bright outside vs. dark], school year reminders, and Anti-Fairy migration season.
I keep my Vatajasa name chart in Knots too:
Factor It In's table doc contains a list of villains who appear in the 'fic (Red for ones who don't appear, green for those who do). It also links to the Wiki page for the Evil Villains Association so I can remember which villains are and aren't in it. It also has my timeline details:
---
Timeline Notes
Factor It In is set in 1998, and my table doc has all the notes I used to narrow down to that date (ex: I originally planned to set it in 1987 because I felt that the late 80s fit the technology level we see in the show before I re-watched the episode "There's No V In Team," which specifically refers to the year 1987 as having happened in the past).
One of the reasons I liked using 1987 originally was because Factor It In is a story about Kid Math training under WordGirl, and it takes place shortly after the Kid Math episode, which aired in 2014. Factor It In opens in early January, so I like the Easter egg that the 2015 calendar would be the same even if we took its airdate literally. 1998 was the only year in the 90s that also matched the calendar, so that's what I ended up with.
I like keeping my timeline notes around so if I take a hiatus, I can always come back and remind myself why I picked stuff. Also it's way easier to expand your worldbuilding if you kept your notes... it's awful if you threw your math away and have to start over (I once redid an entire timeline because someone said I'd messed up the dates on my chart, and I believed them and redid it all, only to realize several months later when I ran into a timeline problem that my math had actually been right all along :') Don't be like me. Record your work and leave notes explaining why.)
[I always use THIS calendar website when I'm planning timelines. It tracks moon phases, which was important when @zachbrightside and I were working on the FOP timeline and heavily relying on moon phases as a guide, and you can easily type any year and month into the URL bar so it's super easy to navigate.]
---
Birthday Notes
I also kept all my notes on determining birthdays (very important for long 'fics with lots of characters that take place over several months! One of my FOP resource docs is specifically for birthdays and annual events, ranging from parades to anniversaries to carnivals).
My headcanon for Becky Botsford's birthday is July 28th. We know she starts the series at age 9 and has a birthday in Season 1 episode 4, meaning she's 10 for much of the series. There are at least two episodes where she cites her ages as "10 and a half," and we saw that in her next birthday episode ("A World Without WordGirl"), her cake had 11 candles on it.
Show canon implies that time IS passing and that the show doesn't exist in a timeless void (see also, Timmy Turner wishing to freeze time for 50 years), so it was important to me that I nail down her birthday. I knew I wanted it to take place after Rhyme and Reason if possible since there are no more birthday episodes, though I would also be fine with having "Rhyme and Reason" shortly after her birthday [to ensure she stays 10 and 11 for the majority of show canon].
Here are some of my notes on her birthday for anyone interested (Hopefully they're not too squished):
^ Like I said, I switched 1987 to 1998, but yeah. Rex's birthday comes out to June 13th, 1989 and Becky's is July 28th, 1986.
Clickable links for Rex and Becky on the age calculator if you're curious... Important for me since one of Rex's math powers is to always know how old someone is to the day.
Fun Fact - I deliberately gave Rex June 13th as a birthday so he would share a birthday with Foop, who is also a Season 7 Episode 1 debut kid over in Fairly OddParents :)
---
Having birthdays planned is also nice for when I want to write multiple 'fics in the same world, even if they're not the same 'fic. In my story "Flypaper," which takes place in early June, Rex is eagerly awaiting his 17th birthday and Becky muses on how she'll be turning 20 at the end of the summer... Just a nice detail not only to set the scene, but also to help the story feel grounded and realistic since one of the themes of "Flypaper" was that Becky felt time was slipping away from her.
It's also important to note that Rex and Becky are always among the youngest in their school years since they have summer birthdays. Tobey is 12 for most of the time Becky is 11... Little details that don't take a long time to plan for, but can really help a story feel like the author put effort into the world.
Again, I highly recommend leaving clear notes to yourself about why you're doing certain timeline things. I much prefer having the breakdown of the episodes I looked at over simply leaving a note to myself that Becky's birthday is July 28th!

Character Arc Notes
Before planning the events of the story, it helps to get an idea for what themes and character traits you want to focus on. Frayed Knots is about love and betrayal- it's about Anti-Cosmo pushing for what he wants even though it hurts his loved ones (appropriate theme for a villain backstory 'fic).
I want to show some notes I have for Factor It In because I think they're interesting. Factor It In is my first attempt at doing a story that deliberately focuses around two protagonists and their separate but equally important character arcs, and I'm excited :)
Everything that's in my doc is the "tell" part of "show don't tell." The story tries to show what I have in my notes:
Rex arc - Lack of Stability / Lack of Control - Failing, getting tricked, being unwanted, not good enough, not understanding things. Being in foster care is scary. Unfamiliar planet is scary Show Kid Math always being super inquisitive. He always wants to learn. He knows the most, he is the best, he gets upset when he's fooled or when he fails. He was 2nd best in school. He feels lost when he doesn't know what's happening in his future. Gets upset when WordGirl doubts his decisions. In the opening scene of Factor, he's mind controlled by Mr. Big. Literally has no control Kid Math clings to his superhero certification / Hexagonian education. He was raised by his aunts and has basically no relationship with his parents (though he tries to hide the fact that this hurts him). He feels like a burden; he feels like his mom considered him "too much work" and that his father considers him "not worth bothering to visit." Rex constantly struggles under this fear that he's a burden. He wants to prove himself a good superhero so that his education (and life) aren't "a waste." Conflict: Kid Math has already spent his entire life feeling like he's no one's first choice; that he's only "second best" (because he was second to top of his class in school). He understands that he and WordGirl are sharing the city, but it's important to him that he's considered an equal. He wants people to like him. It hurts when WordGirl comes on too strong and makes it obvious she lacks faith in him, because he feels like a burden: his worst nightmare. Throughout the story, Rex internalizes his successes and failures. He cannot separate his superhero identity from his civilian identity. He always sees himself as "Rex, who trained to become a superhero." He calls himself Rex and has no distinction in his mind. His secrets slip, he uses his powers when he's Rex, and he expects people to attribute KM's failures to Rex (Ex: school kids laugh at how he falls for tricks as Kid Math and it upsets him as Rex). Rex values control, and will do all he can to avoid losing control. His deadly sin is Wrath, but he has a lot of emotional control and will try to remove himself from the situation. As long as he has his safe space and his comfort things, he's okay. We get several scenes of him wanting to break stuff when he's upset but he holds back... with the underlying tension of wondering how long he'll last before he snaps (pitting his nightmare of losing control against Becky's nightmare of losing his friendship).
I want to highlight the part about how Rex cannot separate his two identities. This is something I showed even back in "AlgoRhythm" - Rex always calls himself "Rex" inside his head, even when he's dressed as Kid Math. However, when I write from Becky's POV, the third-person writing swaps between calling her "Becky" or "WordGirl" depending on how she's dressed.
I also have notes about how Rex's character arc relates to the story's finale, but that's spoilers. Since Rex's character arc is about how he hates not having control, then the worst thing that could happen to him is not having a say in things: hence why the plot about bouncing between foster families is such a hard thing for him to go through. Eventually, he'll also be put in a position where he needs to think about who he is as Rex vs. who he is as Kid Math, and we'll see that in the story climax.
Becky has a fun arc too:
Becky arc - Loss / Change - People being hurt, losing her friends, hurting or losing her family. Fear of change. Show WordGirl being upset when relationships fracture, even with people who aren't super close to her. She struggles with the idea of Kid Math befriending her villains or losing her position as a hero and getting replaced by Kid Math. Put simply, WordGirl is a control freak who refuses to admit this to herself. WordGirl struggles to relinquish control to Kid Math (which is where they come in conflict since he ALSO feels stressed when he doesn't have control). WordGirl is a bit of a helicopter mentor; she hovers around Rex, interferes with his work, and just generally gets in his way (which is pretty funny imo since Rex never got in her way during "Kid Math"- he's capable, he just causes problems with social interaction and not with the actual fighting... WordGirl gets the social interaction part but definitely gets in the way). Conflict: WordGirl doesn't enjoy having Rex around, but she can't tell him that because it might hurt his feelings and that would cause her "loss and change" pain. She would feel guilty and sad. Rex being Exposition Guy's foster kid is a big source of conflict between them, as Rex believes he should "get dibs" on info EG shares. WordGirl stresses when Rex doesn't do things "her way" and Rex gets frustrated that she doesn't trust him. Tensions keep rising because WordGirl starts seeing "the bad" in Rex; she keeps seeing Miss Power traits in him and she worries that Miss Power might have been his teacher back on Hexagon. Her nosiness strains Rex's trust in her and he starts pulling away emotionally... sending her into a spiral about change and loss (especially as more and more villains and civilians grow familiar with Kid Math and start to think he's cool). Lots of resentment towards Kid Math for "replacing her" even though she NEVER admits that to herself; she still has trace amounts of jealousy towards him in later stories like "Flypaper..." WordGirl doesn't mean to be jealous or greedy, but it's always been one of her flaws (i.e. someone else getting a key to the city, or when she snapped during Miss Power special about Chuck getting a collectible unicorn, wanting to show off a bit during "Invisible Hand"). She's a very nice person but Envy is absolutely her deadly sin.
So yeah! Fun times ahead; I'm excited.
We've already started seeing cracks form between her and Chuck... In Chapter 4, Chuck confronts her, asking if WordGirl is retiring and if he'll still get to see her. Chuck has his own little character arc in the background, which is that he broke his foot a few days before the story starts- he has to sit on the sidelines watching the other villains get "WordGirl time" while he has to watch Kid Math go through hero training.
A lot of other characters have small arcs too, though Chuck's and Victor Best's are probably the most notable-- Chuck and Victor are both characters who struggle with being "the second best" compared to a more successful sibling, so they resonate heavily with Rex's character arc.
WordGirl's arc is about control, so Mr. Big and Tobey (mind control and robots) are pretty obvious choices for her, along with Dr. Two-Brains... but actually, Granny May and Eileen are two villains I really wanted to look at in Factor It In. Granny May's life hinges around being a "people person" (to the point that she had an episode about how she could be way more successful with a different schtick; she just likes talking to people too much to trade that for success).
Granny May is super calculating and manipulative and she also struggles with little losses of control in her daily life (getting on in years, mobility issues, and the episode "Granny's Book Club" where the Evil Villains Association tried to force her to retire). I like Granny May because she looks like this sweet old lady but she also, like. can fly and has a robot suit, which is SO funny.
With her cold, calculating patience and her manipulative ways, Granny May represents the worst of Rex AND Becky at the same time, which is great. I'm excited to get to her chapters. Eileen is also a fun villain to juxtapose Becky because she's the embodiment of envy, which Becky struggles with, so I'm looking forward to that too.
A lot of characters are also working on school projects, so they always have "something to do" or "something that is causing them stress." Mapping out the background character arcs and conflicts can help the story feel more alive, and I think that's a useful part of outlining :)
---
Once you know your character arcs ["What is my character's biggest fear, what is something my character will do wrong, what event forces them to face their fear, and how do they resolve this situation in a way that shows them growing as a person?"] then the story sort of writes itself :)
Make sure you have a goal or a problem and make sure there's a reason they can't achieve the goal or solve their problem in the first chapter. Here are some examples from 3 of my long 'fics:
Origin of the Pixies - Fergus (i.e. H.P.) fears being responsible for others... His father wants him to study psychology and take over the family therapy business (Wish Fixers) even though carrying the weight of others' emotional problems sounds like the worst fate imaginable... so Fergus cuts ties with Dad, drops out of the Fairy Academy and runs away from home. Now he only looks out for himself, can start his own business if he wants to, and he can drink and party all the time. What could be better than that?
Fergus's nightmare of being responsible becomes unavoidable when he (a pixie) starts reproducing asexually... during a time when no one really knows what pixies are and Fairy World has a baby ban in place. Fergus pursues a life of business and money-making, fighting to provide for Sanderson and the rest of his clone offspring (some of whom are predisposed by their genetics to kill him when they come of age, which is fun). Things get even worse when Fairy World and Anti-Fairy World go to war... Being responsible for kids during a time of peace was hard enough, but war? Forget it.
After successfully navigating the chaos of war, Fergus is ready to settle back into a peaceful life, but tumultuous politics keep him on his toes. His best friend - the leader of Anti-Fairy World - gets overthrown by hotshot Anti-Cosmo, and Fergus is forced to re-evaluate his friendships, priorities, political alignments, and personal needs if he wants to maintain political piece between the Pixies and Anti-Fairies.
While raising his pixie clones, Fergus has always kept them at arm's length and called them "interns" or "employees" or even "nephews" to avoid calling them his sons. The older he gets, the less he's able to do the things he liked to do in his younger years - goof off, wrestle, attend parties - and the more he needs to think about putting his pixies first. As death looms nearer and nearer, Fergus grows increasingly desperate to ensure his pixies will still thrive without him... and he'll do anything, regardless of who it hurts or how badly he endangers the magical world, to ensure they do.
-
Frayed Knots - Anti-Cosmo fears being unloved; his father isn't in the picture, his older brother is aloof, and his mother isn't kind to him. He's desperate to not grow old without a soulmate by his side. When he fails to match with a partner during a betrothal ceremony, he lies his way through it and tricks his peers into believing Anti-Saffron is his fated match.
As the centuries pass, it becomes more difficult to maintain the lie and Anti-Cosmo begins questioning whether maintaining his relationship with Anti-Saffron is even worth it. Breaking things off in a society that believes in luck and fate, however, is incredibly risky and could get him labeled as an outcast for the rest of his life.
Anti-Cosmo struggles to balance his dying feelings for Anti-Saffron with his growing feelings for Anti-Wanda, and things get trickier and trickier as his friends realize he's been lying all his life and start pushing him away. Finally, Anti-Cosmo has to choose between his comfy lies and his betrothed or else throw away everything so he can chase after Anti-Wanda... who might abandon him too, just like his friends did, and leave him alone and unloved.
Anti-Cosmo maintains his lies as long as he can, hurting his loved ones in the process, and struggles to pick up the pieces left behind. Even if no one else forgives him, he can't keep living in the past; he has to learn to forgive himself if he hopes to be approachable and trustworthy again. Being an evil villain, though, I guess whether or not he grows as a person is up for some debate...
-
Factor It In (Rex) - Rex values his personal achievements; he finds joy in superhero work and regularly brags about himself, his schooling, and his home planet Hexagon in general (right down to the fact that his planet has "the tastiest raisins in the universe.") Unfortunately, he's stuck in a cycle of giving his all but never feeling satisfied with his achievements because he's "never the best." One of his greatest fears is being confronted with evidence that he really is a burden and a failure, which would absolutely crush his spirit.
Rex doesn't love the way that Becky pushes him around; she's not mean, she just tries to guide him towards foster care even though he doesn't want to go. He doesn't speak up about it because he wants to put his faith in her and believe that he can learn from her and become a better person (since "being a good person" is the one thing he values above personal pride). He still feels inexperienced and overwhelmed in the early chapters, so he's hesitant to speak up and explain why he doesn't like what Becky's doing... up until she starts crossing his boundaries and then he has to draw the line.
Rex's desire for independence leads him to trust very easily. He puts his faith in Victor, Tobey, Chuck, and Granny May, who steer him down a wobbly path of moral grays. Becky keeps pushing him further away, so Rex continues bonding with the villains because he feels safe with them. Obviously this doesn't end well and he has to face the consequences of choosing the villains over his friendship with WordGirl.
In his determination to mend things with WordGirl, Rex accidentally lands both of them in a terrible situation and puts them (and therefore the rest of the city) in danger. In order to fix this, he has to push through his personal pride (Ow), accept his mistake (Double ow), and go against his training (which became useless while Bad Situation is in effect) so he can find a new way to save the day.
-
Factor It In (Becky) - Becky values her identity as a superhero and how much work she puts into protecting the city. She fears that Kid Math will be a worse hero than her (endangering people) but also fears Kid Math will be a better hero than her (blow to her self-confidence).
She can't resolve this problem in Chapter 1 because she's scared of hurting his feelings and would rather try other options to avoid direct confrontation; instead, she deals with her concerns by trying to "fix" Kid Math. She trains him and pushes him towards foster care. As long as she feels like she's helping him, she's assuaging both fears: she's proving she's "better" and she's helping him not be worse. Ergo, she "no longer has a problem."
Becky's already on a path that puts her in conflict with Rex, who desires control over his own life and has to deal with her pushing him around until he can't take it any more. Conflict arises when Becky oversteps boundaries and breaks Rex's trust in her. Things get worse when she makes a mistake that sours the city's attitude towards her. Her worst nightmare is coming true: she's "not as good as Kid Math" and people might get hurt without her.
As things keep getting worse for the city and Rex is struggling, it's obvious that she and Kid Math need to team up again. That means repairing their friendship... which she can only do if she proves that she really does trust Rex to do things by himself. Therein lies the pickle...
---
Anyway, I really rambled on there, but... Point being, a lot of fun stuff goes in my table docs, and this is the type of outlining I like to do for characters and story plots.
I highly recommend having a table of contents doc for long 'fics. You don't need to bog it down with all your worldbuilding notes (Hopefully you have a separate place you can put those, like a Tumblr blog or other docs), but for things that you know you'll definitely need and are worried you might not be able to find again, I highly recommend keeping them in the table doc.
You shouldn't normally be editing your table doc after you've done your outlining, which means you're less likely to accidentally delete important notes (compared to keeping them in a story doc) and you won't bog your story doc down with stuff you need to scroll past.
---
Chapter Docs [1 per chapter]
I have links to all my individual chapter docs (important to me since my chapters are normally 10k+ words... Can't fit everything in one doc or it would be a pain to navigate and take an age to load).
Here are some snippets of my outlines. As you can see, the descriptions I have in my table docs are loose and vague:
This is from Come What May:
Come What May is special because it takes place over just a few days (while my long 'fics span months or even thousands of years). It's based around Kevin's appearances in Fairly OddParents Season 10.
I wanted to share this because even though my notes for "Cold Shadow" are basically nothing, it still gives the info that's actually important for me to know when returning to this project after a hiatus: "Here's exactly what day it is in the timeline. This episodes shows kids turning in a homework assignment on the founding fathers, which means we need to see Kevin doing this homework assignment (or at least acknowledging it) in prior chapters.
Regardless of the weird supernatural stuff Kevin is dealing with in this 'fic, it's still intended to be canon compliant, and I know that's a detail Future Me could easily forget but would want to know. It's like what I said earlier about birthdays and timelines: leave yourself clear notes. You'll never regret having too many notes, especially if you intend to return to a project after a long hiatus.
-
Origin - I unfortunately scrapped my descriptions for all previous chapters of Origin and Knots so forgive the "spoilers," ha ha
Origin was originally drafted in a single document, which I later split into separate chapter docs. That's why I have notes like "Hawkins hand scene." I know exactly what that's referring to and my table of contents doc helps me remember which chapter it got moved to.
-
Knots - I wanted to show these to emphasize how vague some of these are:
Even though they're vague, you can get a good sense of the direction the story is going. Outlining doesn't have to be a painful, in-depth process. You can knock out the basics in a single afternoon if you just sit down and do it.
I picked one chapter and opened it at random ("Fox's Folly") and it has 8k words in its draft right now. "Tipping Scales" has 15k. At the time of making this post, Frayed Knots only has 34 chapters posted in public, so we're at least 1 or 2 years away from getting to this point, yet there's already a lot of draft info I can go back to. I've added a lot of bits and pieces to these chapters over the years and sometimes I just open them when I'm in the mood for reading something fun.
Having the documents already set up in advance brings you one step closer to opening them and throwing stuff in them and I highly recommend that.
-
Factor - These chapter outlines are more detailed (minus the early ones... the first 3 chapters were drafted as 1 chapter originally). If you've actually read Factor thus far, however, you'll notice that the scenes in my outline don't match perfectly with the finally chapters. And that's okay! The outlines are just guidelines and the final chapter can be different:
Lots of screenshots but I feel like my Factor doc is the most authentic look at my outline process (since it's recent while Origin and Knots were outlined like 7 years ago). I use black on my initial draft and red for things I change on a later sweep.
There are little notes to myself and sometimes I switch the order of things around. Also, "Torus" was written from scratch (no outline) since I came up with ideas for it later, and the nice thing is that I felt comfortable doing that without feeling like I'll write myself into a corner or wreck the pacing.
Having a story outline and all these separate docs means I already know where the story is going and I can jump in and write from anywhere in the timeline when the mood strikes. I think having a lot of options on what to write is the best way to fight writer's block, so this system works well for me.
Origin was drafted in 2016 and Knots in 2017. I create new scenes all the time (and scrap others), but a lot of the early story beats are still the same.
That about covers what I do in my outline process :) Thanks for asking and hopefully this was a fun and interesting read!

[TRANS] September Issue of Inkigayo Magazine - B.A.P
Definitions of No Mercy
Daehyun: No Mercy is like a colored pencil! We were limited to our images during our 1st and 2nd albums with ‘Warrior’ and ‘Power’, but we’re able to show a variety of charms through ‘No Mercy’.
Jongup: No Mercy is a new start! Because we’re starting a challenge towards something new.
Youngjae: No Mercy is freedom! We’re able to play more freely and enjoy ourselves more on stage than during ‘Warrior’ and ‘Power’ stages.
Himchan: No Mercy is sexy! The choreography’s point has sexiness and masculinity and that we also became matured.
Yongguk: No Mercy is the Bulsaguk! (Everyone laughs) With the hopes of wanting to inform overseas fans a bit more about Korean traditional music, we put a Korean feel in B.A.P’s songs and created it. I said it’s like the Bulsaguk because it represents the beauty of Korea.
Zelo: No Mercy is the original B.A.P! Contrasting with the unified feels from ‘Warrior’ and ‘Power, we emphasized our own characteristics for this album.
Your Attachment to a Song
Daehyun: ‘What My Heart Tells Me to Do’. The moment I heard this song while riding a taxi back to the dorms on a rainy day, I suddenly fell into the lyrics and a want to express the emotions well and I couldn’t come out of it. That’s why I feel most attached to it after our title song. I really liked Zelo’s part because he expressed the sad emotions perfectly.
Himchan: You sang it really well~
Jongup: I think it’s because I listened to it the most, but I feel most attached to the title song.
Yongguk: ‘Voicemail’. It’s a song I composed, but I feel the most attached to it because I worked on this one the most from the entire album. Because I carefully thought out the composition for it.
TITLE ‘NO MERCY’: A Line From the Lyrics That Touched My Heart the Most While Shouting Out ‘No Mercy’
Yongguk: There’s a line in Youngjae’s part that goes like, ‘Don’t compare me with the parrot-like you’. Parrots normally just copy what others say, right? Truthfully, it’s only human to be swept up and want to imitate cultural things like music and fashion that appeal strongly to the public. These are lyrics to show that B.A.P expresses their own color and that we didn’t copy anyone else, so I like to think that this set of lyrics expresses our image the most from ‘No Mercy’.
Himchan: There are two parrots that face each other in the music video, but they’re there to express the lefts and rights of décalcomanie.
Youngjae: You can feel the weight in Yongguk hyung’s part of ‘Do you think music is a joke’? and he really focuses well on stage during it. Although if you look at it one way, that part may give off a strong image, but they’re whip-like words to us, so we gain self-reflection and confidence from it.
Himchan: I express my emotions very well during that part. Even though it’s not part, I unknowingly start focusing on my emotions and look towards the camera.
My Life’s Parrot, Something That’s Like a Décalcomanie
Youngjae: I’m the type that likes many artists in one limited music genre. The first musician I liked was Musiq Soulchild, but after listening to his songs, I was captivated by R&B songs.
Jongup: I received the most music motto from Chris Brown, who everyone likes nowadays. He’s also the artist I like the most.
Daehyun: From a musical or personal point, I believe that I have a lot to learn and follow from everyone around me.
Himchan: After not listening to anything besides our album, I recently listened to another musician, which was Eric Benet. I think I was able to start liking the soul in that genre of music again due to this. I even followed him on Twitter…
Yongguk: He’s a little upset that Eric Benet hyungnim didn’t follow him back. (Laughter) I used to only like gangster raps. When I was younger, my musical spectrum was very limited, but as I began to know more about the world as I grew older, I started like jazz and classical music. After receiving influences from many artists, I felt that there’s a lot to learn with music. To be honest, I used to listen to a lot of hardcore rock music before that. I liked a band called ‘Korn’, so I think there are a lot of rock elements in our musical colors. I have recently been listening to a lot of jazz, and I was wondering how it would sound if we mixed jazz and hip-hop in B.A.P’s next album, so I’m currently researching information on it. Because I’m learning a lot of things from many types of music, I’m always thankful towards music.
Zelo: Although I don’t have a certain role model, there are a lot of positive points from people who distinguish themselves in various fields that I want to model myself after. I’ve been listening to a lot of Drake songs again. He was the singer I liked the most recently.
Writing a New Paradigm in Idol Music
Yongguk: While we sought for a transformation in stage performances during our 1st and 2nd album, we put up a definite concept of enjoying ourselves during ‘No Mercy’ stages. Many people thought of the heavy concept of ‘Warrior’ or ‘Power’, but a lot of them changed their thoughts after seeing our stage. The most important thing we try to express through ‘No Mercy’ is ‘freedom’, so our homework was to be able to communicate a bit more with the public and find a way to enjoy it a bit more with our fans. I think it’s a lie when people say they don’t worry when making music. The amount of worries that appear are proportional to the amount of anticipation. Although it may be because we’re still rookies, but I think our desires to put in music that we like and want to do in our albums are stronger than being conscious of the public’s eyes and ears. That’s why we’re learning bit by bit with each new album. Although our music chart rankings are quite low, rankings and money aren’t important in music.
The Point of Your Stage Clothes
Daehyun: Our clothes this time are all fit to our unique characteristics. There are many times where I wear a stud jacket, which gives off an air of masculinity and charisma, while Youngjae definitely gives off a ‘pop-boy’ feel. Jongup’s style is a really sexy man, while Yongguk hyung’s is a perfectly hip-hop style even to the point where he did reggae hair a couple of times on stage. Himchan hyung is a casanova style with his bright and vividly colored suits, and Zelo is a free soul that enjoys riding on a board and has a playful prankster concept. They livened up the members’ characteristics with street fashion.
Himchan: Zelo’s styling left the biggest impression to me. With a cute style of wearing leggings underneath baggy pants, they matched his hair color with his eyebrow color and emphasized Zelo’s own popping personality. Because Jongup has a lot of muscles and dances well, they matched a sleeveless shirt with clothes that are easy to move around in.
Yongguk: I think our point is that although all six of us express our own characteristics, we look like one when we’re on stage.
Communicating with the World Through SNS
Himchan: I recently gained a bit of weight, but a fan who noticed that immediately sent me, ‘Oppa, you gained weight! Lose some weight.’ When people do that, I get embarrassed. (I.M: You probably went to exercise as soon as you saw that) No. I starved myself. Although I wanted to exercise, I sweat a lot. It’s like justification. When you sweat, you lose weight. It consumes a lot of energy.
Zelo: I don’t usually take a lot of selcas, but while thinking up various ways to communicate with fans, I revealed my makeup-less face for the first time. The title was ‘Parted my hair 1:9’.
Yongguk: Because the age group for our fans is quite low, I feel like I want to teach them a lot of things like a teacher. Like good music or things that young kids don’t quite know about, but should know. Which is why I uploaded things like that through SNS, but I think they take me too seriously and that I’m slightly distancing myself away. Since I’m doing this to share good words, good quotes, and good music, I hope that you can all enjoy it with me. Because I’m the type that wants to tell someone when there’s something good…
Himchan: I think you can tell me it~ Now do you want to see how I communicate? (Everyone laughs) Although I use SNS, I normally just look through it. I also usually just skim through the fancafe, but when we didn’t have any promotions, I got in the top 10 members who visit the fancafe the most in a week, so my secret looking got caught. I think I communicate by secretly watching over them.
Zelo: Although you want to do it secretly, you always get caught, hyung. You can see it as a sign of friendliness. (Himchan: Right! That’s correct!)
Youngjae: SNS is among the few ways that we’re able to communicate with not just Korean fans, but overseas fans as well. Although we’re not able to go overseas often, we can see the opinions of overseas fans through SNS, and we’re able to show a lot of our promotions, so I think it’s useful.
Jongup: Although I don’t use it often, I use it occasionally because it’s a way to communicate with the fans. But there’s a mention I received that made me feel like I should start using it a bit more often now. ‘Are you alive?’ Hahaha.
The Way to Differentiate B.A.P Members Wherever, Whenever
Zelo: I’m Zelo, who’s like drawing paper. Because I’m like drawing paper with my pale skin, tall height, and mint-colored hairstyle, I have the infinite ability to learn whatever you draw on me.
Yongguk: I am the dreamer, Bang Yongguk, who has a deep voice and low pitch, and is always looking for something creative. While living for 23 years, there are many times when I still don’t quite know who I am.
Himchan: If someone that looks like Ryuk from ‘Death Note’ is flying around on stage with free moves, that’s me. Ever since I was young, I’ve lived freely and wildly, and I plan to continuously livel ike this.
Jongup: I am the member who exposes himself the most! You see quite a lot of muscles.
Youngjae: If you see someone who looks kind and feels like the friend from next door, that’s me, Youngjae. Although my visuals aren’t outstanding from the group, I have friendly charms that you would receive from your friends.
Daehyun: The kid who screams is me, Daehyun. Ever since our first album, there hasn’t been a time where I didn’t do high-pitched parts.

Task 001: The Devil is in the Details
((Trigger warning: Question 60 asks about self-harm.))
The computer screen lit up in front of Aurora, showing her her own face as picked up by the small camera. She looked bored - and what a coincidence, because she was bored. But this session was necessary, according to the medical staff. “To make sure your memory hasn’t been affected by the cryostasis,” one of the doctors had told her, like she was speaking to a child. What they didn’t say was that they were checking their psychological profiles again - because that had to be a factor, right? Space madness was not great for crew morale.
The screen changed. Her face was replaced by the Apollo Corporation logo, formed out of lines of code. Samson’s voice rang out clear from the speakers.
“State your name and access code.”
“Aurora Roth, Access Code 13122101. But you knew that already.”
Samson did not respond to her sass. ‘He’ only proceeded to explain the rules of the test. Respond as thoroughly as you can, so your answers can be compared to the results on your file. Do not purposefully lie. Do not answer ‘I don’t know’.
“Are you ready to proceed? Only answer in the affirmative if you have understood the assignment.”
Aurora sighed. “Let’s get this s**t over with. Ready.”
Personal
1) Age?
“Twenty-five. Twenty-six this December. No, I have not forgotten my own birthday.”
2) Gender?
“Female. Cisgendered.”
3) Romantic/Sexual Orientation?
“Not f**king interested. S**t, wait, I didn’t put that before. Fine then. Heterosexual.”
4) Height?
“5′1, but tall enough to kick ass. Make a note of that, robot.”
5) Race?
“Caucasian.”
6) What do you look like?
“Christ, this is like a first grade homework activity. Um. F**k. How do I describe myself? I have light-brown-slash-dirty blonde hair that hangs just past my shoulders, with bitchin’ bangs. My eyebrow game is strong. I have blueish-grayish eyes. And I’ve been told I have resting bitch face. Good enough?”
7) Any disabilities?
“The inability to suffer fools. It hinders me on a daily basis.”
8) Is there a meaning to your name?
“My mother picked it. If there was ever a special reason why, she never told me. With her personality though, I’m just grateful I wasn’t named ‘Crystal’ or ‘Jewel’. Hey, are all these extra comments going to register negatively? Am I going to be told I have memory loss because I’m being a f**king chatterbox?”
9) What makes you, you?
“I...? What??? F**k. I guess my sparkling personality? ... Hey, what do you mean ‘incorrect’?! That’s f**king rude. Is it my trucker mouth? I put my trucker mouth before, didn’t I?”
10) What did you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to do with your life?
“... Be happy. And needed.”
Family
11) Do you have parents? What are they like?
“Growing up, it was just my mom and I. Mom never really spoke about Dad - unless we were fighting, and then he was everything wrong with me. ‘You’re a demon, Aurora, just like your father.’ ... Yeah, I don’t hold out much hope for him being a nice guy.”
12) Do you have siblings? If not, do you wish you had siblings?
“I’m an only child, and I liked it that way. I was pretty solitary growing up.”
13) Extended family? Do you see them often?
“None. Again, pretty solitary.”
14) Do you like where you live? Is it a safe place?
“Back on Earth, I lived in The Bronx. The neighbourhood could be pretty dodgy, but our apartment block at least had mild security. I could handle myself though. Do I like the Atlas-7? Sure, I guess.”
15) Where do you live? Are they wealthy, poor or middle-class?
“Mom and I were lower middle-class. And now... do I get paid for this? S**t, I better get some kind of luxury for risking my neck out in space.”
16) Do you have a lot of expectations or pressure on you from family to do great?
“From my mother? Hah, f**k no. I don’t know if she even knows I’m up here. ... I hope she does. I hope she’s proud of me.”
17) Do you have pets?
“We never had the space for one. I would’ve loved a snake. Or a snapping turtle. Something mean-looking, like me.”
18) Who do you look up to the most in your family? Are you close with them?
“Not really much of a choice when it’s just me and one other person, is it? I guess Mom and I were close at times. I have some good memories, at least. I drifted away a bit in high school, and, well, she never pulled me back. That’s that.”
19) Is there anything special about your family?
“I come from a long line of psychics. I s**t you not. Some of my ancestors were spooky accurate with predictions.”
20) Do you wish you lived in a different household?
“Nah. What’s the point of fighting the hand you got dealt? I made do with what I had, and it wasn’t all bad. It made me strong.”
Friends
21) Best Friend(s)?
“A few good friends, but only one best. Matthew Reyes is, without a doubt, my best friend. He’s the one who inspired me to do this.”
22) Who was your first friend?
“Matt, again. We clicked pretty quickly once we actually had a chance to interact.”
23) What is your friend group like?
“Pretty f**king big. We were one of those groups that split off into different groups, and mixed and matched. There was my group - Matt, Nathaniel (Matt’s then-boyfriend and now-husband, and very sweet Latino boy), Jeanette (the eternal ball of sunshine), Vaughn (the mysterious one) and myself - and then the “popular” group - Evangeline (the ice queen), Benji (the jackass), Angela (the cool bitch), Gabe (the stoner-who-wasn’t-a-stoner-but-looked-like-a-stoner), Lavender (tailor aboard the Atlas-7. Never liked her) and her boyfriend, Will (the worst person alive). Despite our differences, we were pretty tight. Lavender and I managed to get all of the others aboard the ship as civilians. It’s one of the only nice things I’ve ever known her to do.”
24) Do you have a love/hate relationship with any of them?
“I love Matt and Nate, and hate Benji and Will. Does that count?”
25) Do you consider any of your friends to be like siblings?
“Matt is like my brother. I was one of the first people he came out to, and he was the first person to ever just accept me for me.”
26) Have you ever hurt a friend or lost one?
“I’m sure I’ve hurt them plenty, but it’s not my problem. They know I’m blunt and honest. If they didn’t want to get called out on their bulls**t, they shouldn’t have f**king done it in the first place. Loss-wise... does having friends frozen in time count as losing them? Because I’m feeling that loss pretty hard.”
27) Do you have a crush on any of your friends?
“God no. It was bad enough watching them all shack up with each other. I’d hate to actually be part of one of those relationships.”
28) Do you share classes with good friends?
“We all used to have at least one class with each other - well, Matt, Nate, Jean, Vaughn and I did. The others were a year above us. They probably shared some classes.”
29) Who do you go to the most when you need a shoulder to cry on?
“No one. I was the strong one of the group. I don’t really need anyone to share girly emotions with, since I’m 100% pure man.”
30) What would you do without your friends in your life?
“Spend my days charting, navigating and mapping stars and other space matter, and my nights rooming with a treehugger.”
School
31) Did you complete your school career?
“I finished high school and went on to college before joining the space program. I wasn’t studying anything special.”
32) Did you like your teachers? Was there a good one? Bad one?
“Does anyone really like their teachers? I had a few average ones, one or two that didn’t quite click with my learning style, and a handful who I enjoyed. Same as everyone.”
33) Did you listen to your teachers or were you goofing off a lot?
“I was a good student. I pick up a lot just by listening, so I tended to pay more attention in class so I could study less.”
34) Were you a good student grade-wise?
“I was steady. Nothing to write home about, but nothing bad. Mostly Bs.”
35) Did you need extra help?
“Nope. Matt and I used to help Nate with his English though. That was fun - and f**king hilarious too. I love Nate, but his English wasn’t bueno.”
36) What was your school like?
“School was like school. I went to public school for a few years, then got into one of those psuedo-fancy academies for my later years of high school. We had one of those uniforms with the blazer-and-skirt combo. Blazers do not look good on short people.”
37) Did you have bullies in your school?
“Every school has their s**theads, you know? And it’s always important to remember that anyone can be the villain in someone else’s story. I’m sure a few people would call me a bully - not that I ever actively went out of my way to be a bitch to someone. But not all bullies are the stereotypes you see on TV.”
38) Have you ever gotten into a fight at school?
“Plenty. My crowning achievement was when I split Benji’s lip after he made Jeanette cry. For the next week, he flinched every time he tried that sleazy smile of his and made the wound bleed again. Good times.”
39) Have you ever done something stupid or embarrassing at school?
“I was involved in Nate’s promposal for Matt. It... it was so gay. Was it embarrassing for me? Nope, I loved it. For Matt? That’s another story.”
40) How far do you plan to go with school? Do you want to go back?
“I think I pretty much hit my peak. This is what I’m doing with my life now, and when we’re done and rehabilitated onto another planet? Well, who the f**k knows?”
Other
41) Are you dating anyone? Do you want to date? Are you married? Divorced?
“Jesus Christ, Samson, what are you, a trashy gossip mag? No, I’m single - always have been - and that’s the way I like it, thank you very much.”
42) What is your favorite hobby? Do you keep it a secret?
“I like plotting the demise of my foes. No, seriously. I sit and think about ways to hurt people who’ve hurt my friends, in the privacy of my head. Is that a tad sociopathic? Maybe. Do I look like I give a f**k?”
43) If you could have one thing in life, what would it be?
“Matt, happy and unfrozen.”
44) Do you work?
“Do I work? Yes, dips**t, I’m a navigator. I didn’t forget the whole reason I was here in the first place.”
45) Do you use social media?
“Nope. Never been interested.”
46) Have you ever been in the hospital?
“Does when I was born count? If not, then no.”
47) Do you believe in the supernatural, that there is more than the eye can see?
“Surprisingly enough, yes. Judge me if you must. I don’t care. My family have had ‘experiences’.”
48) What do you do when you get angry, stressed, or upset?
“When I’m angry, I blow up. Punch things. Swear. That kind of thing. I don’t really get stressed, to be honest. And my ‘upset’ equates to my ‘angry’. No room for sadness here.”
49) Would you consider yourself to be a good person, bad person, or morally grey?
“Chaotic good, maybe? Just because I’m rough doesn’t make me a bad person. I don’t know if I necessarily qualify as a ‘good person’ either. Morally grey, I guess.”
50) Does this OC have any part of you in them? (I.e, personality traits, similar background, etc)
((OOC: Hahahaha. Aurora is probably one of the most opposite characters of my own personality that I play. We both don’t take bulls**t, and can be a bit confrontational, but she’s way more extreme than me. We both have great eyebrows though.))
Health
51) Have you ever been seriously injured?
“Surprisingly not. Some scratches and bruises from fights, but I’ve never broken a bone or anything.”
52) Any allergies?
“I’m severely allergic to bulls**t. Other than that, I’m allergic to nothing.”
53) Do you get sick often?
“Whenever I started coughing or sniffling as a kid, Mom used to give me this godawful herbal concoction. I think that disgusted my body into never being sick again. I had perfect attendance at school.”
54) Do you need to take medicine for anything?
“Luckily not. A few of my friends were on the pill for their sex lives or cramps or some s**t, but I was never one of them.”
55) Are you a hypochondriac?
“That’s a negative.”
56) Do you even like going to the doctors?
“Seriously, Samson? This s**t is on my file? No, I very rarely went to an actual doctor, so it isn’t something particularly dear to me.”
57) Do you brush off injuries or seek help?
“I brush them off. I’m tough, and I don’t want people worrying about me. That’s just how I’m built.”
58) Do you know first aid?
“Nope. If I’m your last chance, you’re f**ked, I’m afraid.”
59) Do you have health insurance? If so, how good is it?
“Didn’t really read the fine print, but I’m sure the crew has some kind of insurance. Not that we have to pay for any kind of treatment while we’re up here. It’s free real estate.”
60) Have you ever harmed yourself?
“No, Samson.”
Favourites
61) Favourite animal? Why?
“The honey badger, because it doesn’t give a s**t. Ravens are cool too.”
62) Favourite type of music? Why?
“Kelly Clarkson is a goddess, and all of her songs are cool, punchy ballads for cool, punchy chicks.”
63) Favourite place? Why?
“My bed. It beckons me into the sweet, sweet abyss of sleep, where I am free to do whatever I want.”
64) Favourite food or drink? Why?
“Matt’s mom used to make the best strawberry cheesecake. I’d sell a kidney to taste it again.”
65) Favourite type of clothing? Why?
“Knuckledusters, because they get the job done. Other than that, I like hoodies. They... make me feel safe.”
66) Favourite time of day? Why?
“3AM, when I am deep in the clutches of sleep. I don’t know. I don’t really have a favourite time. Things like that don’t matter to me.”
67) Favourite season? Why?
“Winter, when the outside world is as cold and grey as my soul. Plus you can live in your hoodie and people won’t give you weird looks for wearing a hoodie because it’s hot.”
68) Favourite story, be it from a book or something like a myth or fable? Why?
“I don’t like fairy tales. They’re unrealistic and make people act like idiots in the hopes of finding their ‘happily ever after’. That s**t doesn’t exist for everyone. I like stories where people get their comeuppance.”
69) Favourite thing to learn? Why?
“A bit of everything, I guess? I might not like people, but I like learning about them. I’m observant. I pick up on a lot. I like learning curse words in foreign languages too.”
70) Favourite scent? Why?
“Rose water and bad quality incense. It smells like home.”
World
71) Do you live on Earth or somewhere else?
“I lived on Earth. Now I have no real home except for a big metal spaceship.”
72) What time period do you live in?
“Last I checked, it was 2038. Unless something got f**ked up along the way.”
73) Anything special about your world?
“The fact that it’s a spaceship is special enough, yeah?”
74) What are your world leaders like?
“I, for one, support our AI overlord, Samson.”
75) What is the state of your world like?
“Structured. Orderly. Routined. Let’s see how long that lasts.”
76) Do you wonder about your place in the world?
“No. I’m hardly the philosophical type. I’m more of an ‘in the now’ kind of girl.”
77) Is your world in contact with other worlds?
“Does Earth count as an ‘other world’ now that we’re not a part of it? If so, yes. If not, then no. No green squigglies have tried to probe us yet.”
78) What area of your world do you live in?
“I live in the f**king Amazon Rainforest. No, Samson, I know we’re in space - it’s a f**king analogy. My room is super f**king humid because my roommate is growing her own plants. Doesn’t she have a whole farm lab for that? Christ.”
79) What is the wildlife like?
“By ‘wildlife’ I’m assuming you mean ‘men’. They’re big and lumbering. Or they drink. Nothing new.”
80) Do you have a religion or belief in a higher being?
“I’ve never believed in a higher being. Too much s**t happens in life for it to be part of some grand plan.”
Skills
81) Do you know how to fight?
“F**k yes. Please tell me there’s a demonstration needed.”
82) Can you drive?
“Nope. Mom and I could never afford a car or anything like that. I used to walk everywhere.”
83) Can you swim?
“Yeah. We had swimming at school. I hated it.”
84) Are you handy?
“Relatively so. I’ve had to do a few DIY fix jobs in my life.”
85) How quickly can you learn something new?
“I taught myself everything I could about the stars and interstellar navigation in less than a year. So, pretty f**king quickly, I’d say.”
86) Can you speak more than one language?
“Fluently, no. But I can hold a basic conversation in Spanish. Gracias, Nathaniel.”
87) Can you read and write?
“I, indeed, can.”
88) Do you have any survival skills?
“Survival like camping? F**k no. Survival as in protecting myself on the streets? F**k yes. I’m pretty good at self-defense.”
89) Can you cook?
“A few basics. I used to make lunch for myself a lot. It wasn’t anything special though.”
90) Any unusual or unique skills?
“Did I mention previously that I’m slightly psychic? Because that’s unique. I have way too many premonitory dreams for it to be a coincidence.”
Other II
91) Do you believe in destiny and fate? Do you think it can’t be changed?
“There’s no such thing as fate. It’s an excuse people use to be lazy, or to explain away s**tty things. Situations can always be changed if you get your ass into gear.”
92) Do you have any regrets?
“No use crying over spilled milk, hey Samson? I am who I am. I’ve done what I’ve done. No regrets.”
93) What do you fear the most?
“Letting my friends down.”
94) Do you believe in love at first sight? Soulmates? That love never dies?
“None of the above. There’s no such thing as ‘true love’. People waste way too much time and energy deluding themselves otherwise.”
95) Can you play an instrument?
“Nope, I have next to no musical talent.”
96) How messy is your room?
“I’d prefer it to be tidy, but apparently my f**king roommate has already decided otherwise. There’s nature junk everywhere.”
97) Can you dance?
“Yes. Take that secret to your grave, Samson.”
98) Do you like to meet new people? Do you like people in general?
“No, and no. I’m not what you’d call a people person. Being frozen for ten years hasn’t changed that.”
99) Are you hopeful for the future?
“I suppose? I’m not getting my hopes up or anything, but, I mean, this mission has to succeed..... right?
100) Why did you make this OC and maybe even the world they live in? Just cause? Or for some other reason?
((OOC: Aurora is one of my most refreshing characters, simply because she is just absolutely 100% unapologetically herself. She’s always been quietly self-sacrificing - so what better position to put her in than in space, where she could quite literally sacrifice her life for her friends? She’s a lot deeper than you think. I look forward to sharing her with everyone.))

Text
I’m having a lot of fun writing this chapter. Writing about Heaven and the angels is probably one of my favorite things to write, I love the world of the angels. I’m gonna have to write more of these!
The Imundii Spire was a structure located Near the coast of Silverwall, about a forty minute walk from her new home on the pier. It was almost as grand as structure as the Argent spire, towering over the sea and it's home on the rocks; A pillar of sandy colored granite and emerald stone. The plateau looked like it peered out beyond infinity, far beyond what the ocean would allow. It was everything Ophelia imagined it would be, and more; spectacular, a marvel to witness for oneself. The way it's at the edge, right on the edge of the ocean, right beneath the lighthouse; it looked like a castle from a fairytale. It was like a dream really, and now she was going through the deed of making that dream come true. All she had to do was walk right to the front doors, and begin her journey to the Stars.
Right through that front door...
Taking a deep breath, Ophelia began to make her way up the worn and weathered steps. The enormous Imundii, the pillar of knowledge, of Science and Technology, towered above her, making her feel so small. She thought about how everyone else was so small compared to this effigy, and that fact made her more comfortable. She looked around and saw faces unfamiliar to her, which was strange given the fact that almost every angel in the City looked exactly alike. These were names and faces she had never seen before having never left her City. The eagerness of meeting all these people made her stomach swell. Social anxiety also did the same, only this felt like more of a bloating sensation than actual joy. There were four guards stationed outside of the front door, all holding onto long, gleaming rapiers, which was also strange. What were armed guards doing at a library? Didn't they have anything better to do with their valuable time?
Why was the royal guard concerned in protecting an Angelic facility solely dedicated to scientific research? Perhaps an angel of great importance was visiting today. Maybe they were on guard because they had nothing better to do. Or maybe they were sent here to keep an eye out for her; to watch out for the Renegade Ophelia and see if they can convince her to come back home. Maybe Raphael was in.
"Excuse me sir," the young girl called up from a dozen steps below them. "Do any of you know if Lady Bastet is in today? I was sent for her."
The guards, wearing their typical gleaming uniform and heavy helms, must have known who she was, for the identified her by name. The guards clapped a fist to their hearts and bowed their heads. The only man not wearing a helm of any sort addressed her.
"Yes of course, Lady Ophelia," he replied, extending a gloved hand down towards her as his three comrades went to go and open the doors for her. "She should be in her office, at the very top of the Spire , in the observatory. It's a direct flight upstairs."
Politely, Ophelia took the guard's hand and bowed her head. "Thank you, sir." She said with a clap on the soldier's back as she stepped on inside.
Now the Imundii looked a lot larger on the inside than it was on the outside. The floors and walls were paved of the finest gold, which reflected everything from the ceiling to the passing feet that squandered by. The windows, which ranged greatly in size and height, were made entirely from stained glass that one could find in a cathedral. As a matter of fact, the glass was probably made here, from the sand pits in the rock quarries just outside of this tiny town. Ophelia thought to question about that later on.
Curled wings stretched out and gently cast the angel upward toward the spire's peak. On her way up, she noted the similar architecture to that of the Argent Spire, how the library itself revolved around a winding staircase leading to the top. A few other angels all flew about, each one a female of dark skin and dark hair. Angels in the city only ever had white hair! The only other angels Opi had ever seen with any other color hair were Marci, Rose, and Idella. But even still, they were all so fair; the women here were a large contrast to that, sporting deep olive toned or mahogany skin, the diversity of this place was incredible.
She landed on a small jade platform hovering just on top of the lab's landing. The lab was a small, cozy space swathed in a somber golden and bronze color by the amber windows and noon bright sunlight. A simple two-story flat with a short staircase that spiraled around the huge cluster of golden globes in the center. That piece alone was the centerpiece from the entire room, setting directly beneath a ray of golden sun. Planetary models, moon models, star maps and comet charts practically hung from all across the expansive ceiling, which happened to open up to a glass-dome stargazing room! Right where the telescope should be! And the Brazier for the Lighthouse was being tended to by a tall, skinny man in long white robes. There were cats everywhere!
Cats everywhere~
The grinding and clanking of the gears and plates below the globes was rhythmical, relaxing almost. It was all around, in the walls, floor, and even a few up above. Those moved the mobiles and stars hanging from their respective wires. Ophelia also heard humming coming from behind the globe. She hurriedly made her way down the tiny flight of stairs, watching the mechanisms work through the glass floor, and came across the figure of a squat little old lady with a fat white cat in her arms, along with a few scrolls. She set them on the tabletop and giggled to herself, talking in a hushed voice to the cat.
"Now if Sahaquiel would just put his scrolls back when he finished reading them, I could die happy!" she heard the old lady mutter.
"Excuse me, ma'am," Ophelia started, hoping not to startle the little woman. "Do you happen to know where Lady Bastet is? I'm hoping to ask her about an apprenticeship, and I-"
The leathery little lady turned to face Ophelia, looking her over with eyes so small, so obstructed by winkles, she almost seemed to have no eyes. "Ha! You're lookin' at her! This is ol' Lady Bastet. You must be Ophelia, Aboddon's girl! I've been so eager to finally speak to you outside of letters! Oh, and look how beautiful you are! You look just like your father..."
She just met me and already I feel insulted. This will be a fine day indeed...
With surprising strength, Bastet grabbed a hold of Opi's gloved hand and shook it furiously. The white cat traversed the lady's broad shoulders and now sat atop them. Ophelia wondered how such a frail looking woman could have such a strong grip! (And support such a fat cat-) She knew Bastet was older than the rest, but she had no clue she'd be so... well... Angels typically didn't tend to age once they turned thirty, and didn't seem to age for a very long time after that. So an angel as worn and wrinkly as Bastet had to have been millions of years old! That's, like, waaay longer than any other angel's been alive! She may very well have been-
"Why, yes, I am of Aboddon's house, but not any more! I'm setting up shop here in Silverwall now! Right on the pier." Opi proudly declared, taking a moment to reassemble her thoughts and focus on the conversation.
"On the pier? You mean Jophiel's old studio? Well that's awfully kind of her to let you move in. Or did Azreal let you in? I know for a fact she let him in first- Don't you know how often that house gets flooded?"
Ophelia giggled. Bastet has a funny train of thought. "Actually, no, I don't. Although I am aware of the seasonal flooding. Pompeii gets a lot of rain, the sea swells, and Silverwall pays the price."
The old angel laughed as she stroked her cat's head. "True. Well come on in, make yourself comfortable. I'll pour us some tea."
Bastet set the cat on a table right beside the curve of the globe and shuffled off into the bookshelves. The cat then stretched, licked her paws for a moment, and curled back up on the tabletop. Ophelia took a moment to admire the office as she took a seat at the desk. She listened to Bastet clattering around in the hidden kitchenette. The bookshelves lined the areas of the wall in front of the machinery, ever taller to reach the ceiling opening up above. So many books, and they were the handwritten observations of the Angels of the Stars themselves. These were their findings throughout their lives of watching the heavens beyond our own. They had gone farther than any astronomer before, and the Kingdom of Heaven did so at an incredible age.
Bastet shuffled back into her office with a tray of teacups and a large black kettle that hung hung from a woven ring around the crook of her arm. She hooked a long stand of grey hair behind her ear as she spoke. "So you're here to ask about an apprenticeship with me? While I'm utterly flattered, you know that my daughter, Kokabiel is also a scholar, among other things. She regularly gives lectures here at the Spire." She proceeded to pour three cups of tea, one cup for the cat.* "She usually teaches the more juvenile youth of or area, but Silverwall is such a small community. Not a whole lot of families with children. Mostly old folks and workers, so not too many people have any interest in stargazing. Her classes are small."
"Oh, I know, my Lady. In the City, there weren't even astronomy classes! There was hardly nay science at all! Just engineering, military, mystics, medics and scribes. That's why I came out here." Opi said quietly, fiddling with the teacup in her hands. "Azreal told me there was only about twenty people living here when he was in town." she lifted her teacup to her lips. "What I wanted most was to learn more astrology and astrochemistry; My only interest is the cosmos, and the White City only has but a few things to teach. I still have many questions left unanswered, and I feel like this may be a way for me to just, dig a little deeper."
The elder angel sighed nostalgically. "Well, If you're already here, I want you to know that I'm taking a few of my personal belongings from his office, and I'm letting you move in. Whenever I give you an assignment or a project, this will be your workplace, as well as your study. Your own private office at Imundii. I thought you might like the telescope upstairs, so I have the keys to the hard light latch in my top desk drawer."
A sarcastic chuckle. "Oh, do you mean to tell me this is all mine now?" Opi inquired playfully as she set her cup on the table. She jumped when the man tending the Lighthouse brazier left, opening the loud, creaky door.
"Did I just stutter, child?" The elderly angel asked with a raspy laugh, sipping her tea. "I'm old. I've had enough of all this flying back and forth from my house to the spire, and back. I'm retiring, and I'm retiring my space. My daughter has her own office, her own telescope, and I have no other predecessors to give this place to. Plus, my cats seem to think you're nice, so I think I can trust you." she explained as she sat back in her chair and took a long drink of her tea.
Ophelia sat rigid. "Oh my God, you weren't lying." she clasped her hands together over her lips and pulled in a deep breath, nearly spilling her drink. "I'm sorry for swearing, but you can't be serious. All this space? All these books? Your cats? And the telescope?" she asked, not having realized that tears were gliding down her cheeks. "Your cats, though?! I just got here!"
Bastet smiled so much, her eyes nearly disappeared beneath her wrinkles. "If Mau likes you, then I like you." she said, stroking the white cat's long back. "Besides, I've spoken with some of your old teachers since we've been exchanging letters, including Raphael, and even he says you're a great person. You're clever, reflective, and full of potential. This is the perfect place for you, child. I will be teaching you privately in my home, but this is where you will do most of your research and major projects. And your reading. Did I mention the reading?"
"Oh, there was never a need to mention reading," she mumbled and wiped her cheeks." Forgive me for being so drastic, I'm just excitable!" Ophelia stopped talking when she looked on over to see the wrinkly old smile. A flush heated her cheeks and Ophelia sighed, trying to play it off.
Bastet giggled like a little girl. Something about the way she giggled sent a flush of a deeper crimson across Ophelia's face. The student sipped at her tea, trying to contain her excitement. Bastet's wrinkly little face curled into a tender smile.
"Besides, it's best a working woman has a place separate for her work from home. Work and Home tend to fuse together to make Mess."
She couldn't help but think about the teachings of Kokabiel downstairs. Ophelia had read a few passages on Kokabile at the Argent Spire, but little information was found other than the fact that she was a child of the Archon Bastet, and had fallen in love with science and the universe rather than her Codex. She asked Bastet if and where the Angel of the Stars would be teaching today, and was told that, "Her classroom is downstairs, on the ground floor. It's one of the first rooms to the left as you enter. You can't miss the great big blue door."
Excitement welled up in her guts as she walked around the ground floor, searching for that blue door. The white walls and the golden floor seemed to circumnavigate the enormous fountain within forever, but after about twenty minutes of searching, she found it. The enormous blue door, one that stretched almost as high as the ceiling-
And the doors were wide open.
The room was actually a music room, lighted in ambient white light that looked like it was coming from outside as well as inside. It was about that time for the sun to be it's most intense. The light cast all of the blue and white furniture throughout the room in brightness; the station where the orchestra would be seated; the blue pews of the choir; the cluster of blue and white robed teenagers gathered around the grand organ at the center of it all, one among them speaking in an older, all bathed in the shiny white light of the stainless windows.
"Sound waves are so beautiful to hear, my pupils, but imagine how beautiful they'd be to see with our eyes."
Ophelia glanced about, making sure she wouldn't get into trouble wandering into a class that wasn't hers, and stepped inside. She approached quietly from behind, so not to disturb anyone who was listening, and she listened in herself. There were a few young angels up in the windows as well, one with a large white guitar, another with a long pink lyar, and a young man in light armor. Minstrels. And a paladin? In the White City, you would never see a paladin- or a warrior of any kind- sitting near a bard! She watched them from below as she reached for her writing utensils in the knapsac at her side.
"Have any of you ever wondered why organ pipes have different lengths? I press a key," a high pitched squeal rang out through the room, making Opi flinch. "and it sends compressed air into a particular pipe, producing sound waves. Now, if we could slow down these sound waves a couple hundred times, they'd sound much, much different."
She pressed another key, playing a much deeper tune than the first. Only this time, as the sound came spilling out of the pipes up ahead, the entire room rippled. The waves from the pipes actually emanated all around the room. The younger students gasped and marveled in awe at the sight, as did Ophelia. Impulsively, she began taking notes. She heard laughter from up above her, in the rafters. More young men and women in light armor, bearing the same colors as the paladin the the window.
"The length of the pipe determines the length of the sound wave that can fit inside of it. A short pipe gives you a short sound, whereas a long pipe gives you a long sound. Short sound waves have a high pitch, or frequency," Again, she pressed a key, playing another high pitched squeal. The sound waves bounced from here to there all across the expanse of the beautiful abbey. it was a little disorienting to watch. The more noise people made, the more distorted things looked. It got to the point where Ophelia could no longer make out the text she had written in her notes.
"Let's stop this wave here to get a better look." Quickly, Kokabiel stopped and brought her hands out before her, stopping a small part of the ripple from moving. Ophelia tried to see what was happening behind the more taller classmates. The spell warped the images of her waist and hands, and all the sound waves suddenly stopped in the middle of their paths to the ears. "The distance between adjacent waves is called a wavelength. Longer pipes give you a longer sound wave, with a lower pitch, or low frequency."
It seemed as though the scholar was growing irritated by all of the chaotic waves, so with a flurry of comical and frantic swatting, the magic sound waves vanished from sight, the magic dispelled.
"Thank you. Now, notice how far and how fast these waves have traveled during the duration of this note. Sound waves can't travel through a vacuum, like in outer space, they need matter to travel on, like molecules of air, water, and rock. Light waves, however, are different. They fly solo; and that, my children, is what we will be discussing today."
At this point, the other students were just now getting their notepads out at the ready as the live lecture began. The paladins in the rafters chatted among themselves, and the bards in the windows laughed, soon disappearing with their armored friend out the window. Ophelia had been writing everything down. "Light waves can move through empty space, and they can move fast. Over a million time faster than sound waves. And the wave lengths of the light we see, are so much shorter than sound waves, about fifty-thousand light waves could fit right in here," Kokabiel held her pointer finger about a hair higher than her thumb and let all of the children get a good look. Some giggled, others squinted, as if trying to see the tiny waves of light with their own eyes.
"Just as the wave length of sound determines the pitch we hear, the wave length of light determines what colors you and I see. Prisms, or the glass fixtures of light-bending science, change and manipulate that light. Prisms spread out the white light we see to reveal all of the colors that make up that white light."
A young man raised his hand above his head and Kokabiel pointed to him. "But how can a prism spread out the colors concealed in a beam of sunlight?"
"Fantastic question, Andell, I'm so glad you asked!" Now, she pulled a small crystal out from her robe pocket and held it high up into the light. On the marble floor below, the entire rainbow could be seen perfectly. "You see, when light travels through air or space, all of the colors move at the same speed. But, when it hits glass at an angle, the light slows down and each wave changes direction. Inside the prism, each color moves at a different speed. In glass, violet light, which is carried by the shortest waves, slows down more than red light, which has the longest wave length. These changes in speed help pry these colors apart, sending the waves off in slightly different directions. That, my pupils, is how a prism works."
"You are witnessing Astrophysics; the birth of my own field of science, and the sciences you will all come to understand, hopefully, by the time these next few terms are over. Written in light, the vertical black lines between one and every color, within one and every color, are a secret code."
Hushed murmurs arose from the cluster of students. Now, Ophelia had no intention of coming here to hear a lecture of the the properties of light and sound, but she was already so engaged, there was no way she could tear her attentions away. Well, that, and she had never heard anything about hidden codes in the light. That was some food for thought.
"When I first saw this phenomenon through my telescope, I wondered why. A code, it comes to us from an alien universe. I wondered, what is this message written in the dark vertical lines. Little did I know that it would take a hundred years of research, questioning, and need only experimentation to decipher it. There are many layers to the fine structure of beauty. Like the chemistry of our planet, and its atmosphere. Many distinct threads, allow me to examine one, at the utmost surface: The colors of nature that dazzle us. What's really happening? Let's take a look a bit deeper into the colors that we see and the codes within."
As Kokabiel went on about this subject, Opi heard the Clock Tower start to go off. It was chiming ten. Oh no, the Boys! I'm still moving! I have to get back home!
Ophelia ghosted out of that classroom as quickly as dignity would permit. The flight from the Imundii to her new home was a short one, but somehow those young Paladins made it possible to get everything delivered in less than three trips. Ophelia apologized to the group for getting sidetracked on this most tedious task. They said it was no problem, though, and had spent some time enjoying the scenery. Made her day much easier.
*phew* That was a long one. Hope I didn’t bore you all!

Can you please give a tutorial on how you draw face shapes, emotions, and bodies? I'm trying to learn, and I would really love to learn from you!!! P.S. I really like your art!!! You're so talented!!!
Hey Anon. O:! Those are… very big, general topics. I can’treally impart, like, all my knowledge on all of that in one post. Tumblr wouldprobably explode, so I’m going to make my answers more general, but stillstupidly long ‘cause that’s how I operate. If you want to ask one or two veryspecific things, maybe I can help a little better. O:! I wrote this based on how my mind works, so don’t be upset if it doesn’t really resonate with how your brain is set up.
I got partway through writing this and realized how scary itlooks so HEADS UP: If you need to learn a LOT, break things into pieces. Youknow how a textbook will have a whole unit that is broken into chapters andthose might be broken into lessons and even those are broken into a few parts?Break things up.
If you need to learn the whole body, you might focus on theface first. If the whole face is too hard, maybe focus on noses, then eyes, then mouths, face shapes, then mapping out proportions, then adding the eyes, noses, and mouths you’ve been practicing to the face shape with proportions. You can break it down even further to only female eyes or only female eyes fromcertain ethnic groups or only nostrils or only nose bridges, etc.
I suggest spending at least a week on each topic you makefor yourself, and spend half an hour each day. If you don’t, no one will getmad at you, but it will take longer because your practice time will be morespread out. You also don’t want to just work seven hours in one day and go, “THAT’SMY WEEK.” Like with homework and school lessons, your body and mind needrepetition to get used to what you’re doing and to truly learn it in a morepermanent way. When you learn stuff well enough, it becomes a reflex and theyou can free your mind to work on other stuff. Remember you had to learn all ofyour letters, and then you had to sound out words, and then you learned harderand harder words and now you can read polylingual stegosaurs devour apatheticangiosperms? Once you feel good about faces, you might move on to other partsof the body, or to practicing colors. What you learn, when you learn it, andhow long it takes you to learn it are all dependent on you. There is no truetime limit. There isn’t even true mastery. Drawing well enough that YOU cannotsee your own mistakes means you are drawing the best you currently can, butthen finding those mistakes and fixing them is your improvement and learning.(At art school, we had to spend 4-8 hours per week in art classes doing artstuff, and then we would have art homework. I did a hand study and drew atleast one hand per week for a year and a half in middle school because I gotbored after half a year of self portraits.)
If you’re having trouble with something, you need topractice it. Consciously. I don’t mean just copying references, I mean tryingto figure them out and making mental notes, or even written notes and your owndiagrams. Like, “Oh, that muscle is only visible over ½ of that body part… I see…”or “OH, that part of the arm gets covered when that part of the hand is in thatposition, so that’s why it looks so weird when it is foreshortened…!” or “Ifsomeone is holding their hand towards you and they are very close to you, thehand looks really big. But if they are far away, the hand almost looksnormal-sized. I could use this to show how close a character is to the viewer,or if I mess this up I might confuse the viewer and they’ll wonder why someonefar away has a giant hand…”
While doing this, you want to look for patterns, like commonproportions that you can memorize. For example, the length of the legs is abouthalf of the whole person’s height. You will also want to see which things are particularto certain scenarios, like how most males won’t have hips as wide compared totheir bodies as most females, or a small child or a little person might havedifferent proportions than an average adult. You can actually look online andfind charts people have made showing proportion patterns they have noticed, andthere are art help Tumblrs you can follow that pass around charts, reference sheets, and studies others have made. (In case you are wondering, my brain has wiremodel mannequins inside with marked proportion points.)
Remember: Not everyone will have the same proportions, sosome will look different, and it is okay to alter them when you make yourcharacters. You want to learn the ‘normal’ stuff, but that doesn’t mean youhave to follow them all the time. It is good to break ‘rules’ in art. Art rulesare guidelines, and many artists have had whole series based on trying to arguerules. Anyway, you may want a characterwho specifically does not follow their sex’s stereotypical traits as much, likea male with big hips, or a tall female with very well-defined muscles, or maybesomeone’s eyes are very far apart, or they’ve got lips so thin you barely seethem. Some of these will be due to what the character does, like a sportyperson will probably have bigger muscles, or someone who eats too much anddoesn’t exercise enough might be fat if they don’t have a metabolism that cankeep up.
You want to point things out, figure out why it ishappening, and see if there is a pattern that you can remember so you can do itlater without needing a reference. The reason you need to consciously pointthings out, is because your subconscious mind doesn’t pick up everything. Haveyou ever driven down the same street over and over and never noticed a small shop, and then found out it’s been there for 20 years? Your brain didn’t see it asimportant, because it was tucked away and you were more interested in a biggerstore nearby. Just like how little kids draw a face and arms, but forget necksand sometimes the rest of the body- the face and limbs are probably the most important parts to them, and their young brains haven’t really memorized the other parts or seen them as necessary to communicate ‘this is a person.’You want to train your brain to look for the small, subtle things, and you willneed to ask yourself questions to get it to start. “Why is that like that? Isthis line smooth, or does it have dents and bumps? Why isn’t it smooth- isthere a muscle there, or maybe a joint or bad scar? Is something nearby havingan effect (like a shadow)? How big is this compared to the other things I havealready drawn/noticed?”
There will be a lot of things that you won’t learn rightaway, because there are a LOT of details. For example, maybe you’ll be drawingsmiles, and you won’t think to check the effect of the muscles involved on therest of the face. The more authentic the smile, the more a person’s eyes willget squinty from the bottom, because the cheeks are raised. If the person isonly smiling half-heartedly (maybe they don’t feel so great, or maybe they’reonly pretending to like what is happening) their eyes might not squint from thebottom as much. They may even be half-lidded from the top if they are beingpolite, but also sort of want the person they are smiling at to know that theyreally aren’t all that interested.
When doing expressions, a lot of artists (including me) willmake the face or imagine ourselves making the face. Some people will also touchtheir own faces while they work to check if there is something subtle they aren’taware of, like a nose crease when they wince. Mirrors help a LOT, especially ifyou don’t have another person to use as a model. When you are checking your ownexpression or the one of a model or reference image, make yourself check everypart of the face. “Have the eyes changed? Is the mouth level, or is part of itup higher than the other? Are the muscles tense in my cheeks? Does my foreheadfeel tense or warm? Are there more creases on my forehead? If I tilted the head, has this affected the neck at all? Is anything in the way, such as if I movethe head, does it hit a shoulder or part of the chest? Does this contact presson anything?” There are a LOT of questions, and it is okay to work on only afew at a time.
For face shapes, you want to think about how round, pointy, boxy, long, and short the face is. The top of the face (like, eyes and above)might have different shapes than the bottom half. The proportions (big foreheadvs small jaw or the other way around) are part of how you can make people moreidentifiable. Knowing what the face is made of (we memorized skull parts incollege and although I remember how to draw it, the only words I remember are ‘ZYGOMATICARCH’) helps you look for specific parts. Like, you know the cheekbones, so howwide are they? Are they up high or lower down? You know the jaw, so how wide isit? How long is it? To be honest, if you use character creators in games, thinkof the sliders. There’s one for jaw length, so what is the jaw length like onthe face you are drawing right now? There is a slider for eye size. How big areyour model’s eyes? Can you measure them compared to other parts of the face? What parts of the face line up? Are the corners of the mouth equal with the pupils? Where do the nostrils line up with the eyes, mouth, and chin?
Face shapes also may reflect or suggest a character’spersonality. A more masculine character will usually have a boxier, moreangular face. A more feminine character will have softer, rounder features. Acharacter with a bigger forehead might be thought to be smarter. A large browridge makes people think the character might be dumb or more instinctive/feral/orat least gruff, because they think of Neanderthals. How clean a character keepsthemselves or certain portions of their face tell about their personality, too.Thin, clean eyebrows probably belong to a feminine character who takes pride intheir appearance. Thick or scruffy eyebrows mean the character is probably moremasculine and/or does not care as much about their appearance. These aregeneralities, of course. You can have a lady with thick eyebrows who views themas a fashion statement, or as a statement against women having to be ‘pretty’by removing all their hair. Or a guy with long, flowing hair could still have asuper masculine personality and mindset. There are stereotypes, but part ofwhat makes characters interesting is when they break the stereotypes. Like, thetough guy who loves tiny dogs and kittens, or the thin teen girl who wants tobe a boxing champion when she grows up.
Analyze stuff you look at. Like, everything I mentionedreminded me of a video or drawing I’ve seen and ‘taken apart,’ or a specific character or a realperson. Look at real people and real expressions and other people’s art and tryto ask yourself questions to help you really see. Take it apart- analyze it. If you can figure out how it works, you can figure out how to put it back together again on your own and in your own way.
I think I’ll stop now, but if there is something morespecific (like a question just about ‘eyes’ or just ‘negative expressions’ or ‘angryfaces’ or ‘arms’) maybe I can help better and draw some stuff. And to think- wehaven’t even discussed the elements and principles of art. >8U!
