The December Coup
December 1, 1989
The December Coup was the biggest coup to ever hit the Republic of the Philippines. Around 3,000 elite Philippine Marines, Scout Rangers, and other Armed Forces personnel took part in the coup that attempted to overthrow the administration at the time. In the initial day of the coup, rebel forces not only managed to secure armor and groudn attack aircraft, but also captured important military facilities. The National Capital Region and many of the surrounding areas thus became a battlefield for several days, as loyalist soldiers held their ground against the rebelious troops. In the end, government forces won, but not after heavy casualties and losses in equipment.

Genshin Inspired Recipes #3 Eula: Custard
Hello, every birdie. Today we are going to be making a dish inspired by a character named Eula.
Eula - She is a Cyro character from Mondsadt. She has a heavy burden over her, regard to her family. She is part of the Lawerence clan and thinks that everyone doesn’t like her because of it. And no matter what happens to her she acts with “vengeance.”
She was my second 5-star character in the game.
Every nation in Genshin is based on a specific country in the world.
Mondsadt is Germany.
Liyue is China
Inazuma is Japan
Sumeru is India
Fontaine - French
Natlan - Philippines or Africa
For today’s recipe, we are going to be looking at a German recipe. This cookbook was gifted to me by my German grandma (adopted. We adopted each other as grandmother and granddaughter.). Like she lived in Germany until she was 7 years old. So this cookbook will always have a place in my heart.
I do have to have google open with this cookbook though. Because there is terminology that I don’t know and had to look up.
Okay, onto the recipe. We are going to be following a recipe called “GUSTIN - pudding with Fruit.”
The recipe and the measurements will be down below. Feel free to look at it.
The ingredients you will need are:
GUSTIN (corn starch powder)
Sugar
Oetker Vanillin Sugar (if you don’t have this, which I didn’t. I added about 1 -2 tsp of vanilla extract to the same amount of granulated sugar.) (Edit from future Robby - Wegman's & Walmart both have this for about $2.00. I just didn't know that at the time.)
1 egg separated
Milk or water
Milk
Fresh fruit
In a bowl, you are going to mix together your GUSTIN, which is your corn starch. Your sugar, and vanilla, the egg yolk with 6 Tablespoons of cold milk or water.
In a pot on the stove, you are going to bring together a pint which is 2 cups of milk to a boil. I doubled this recipe because I was feeding 7 adults. And it didn’t look like that much. So always go with your gut feeling on the quantity you need. And yes, sometimes your gut feeling will not be correct.
Once your milk is at a boil, remove it from the heat, and stir in the corn starch mixture. Trust me when I say that you want to turn the mixture off the heat. There have been many times when I burnt the pudding because I added the cornstarch or thickening agent when the mixture was on heat.
When all of your dry ingredients are incorporated, you are going to bring it back to the stove and bring it to a boil, yet again.
You are going to whisk your egg white until stiff peaks. If you have a hard time with a meringue there are a few tips that I have learned along the way from my mom.
Put your equipment in the freezer about 10-30 minutes before you are going to use it.
Use a metal bowl. It holds the coldness longer.
Never try to do a meringue by hand. You will be tired at the end of it, and you will not have stiff peaks that are generally needed.
Make sure to constantly stir your pudding mixture. Nobody likes burnt pudding, it just sits there unpleasantly at the back of your throat, just reminding you that you made a mistake. So don’t do like I have done in the past.
Once the mixture comes to a boil, you are going to take it off the heat. And fold in your egg whites. While it is still hot, thus you cook your egg white. And you are not eating raw egg whites.
(Gotta love the mess in the picture. I couldn't even be bothered to clean up the table. Geez. 😂)
When you serve the pudding, you can add the fruit to it however you like. I made it into like a trifle-like thing. It tasted really good, and it wasn’t a heavy dessert either. I am finding that as I get older, I like baking with fruits and veggies more than anything else.
I hope that you liked this recipe. Feel free to check it out down below. See you in the next recipes. Thank you.

As the war in Europe come to its conclusion thoughts started to turn to the Pacific and the planned invasion of Japan, codenamed Operation Downfall. The 'Tiger Force' was to be Bomber Command's contribution to this as they would provide a number of squadrons to help in the build up to the invasion.

Second Quebec Conference (1944)
Between the 12th and 16th September a number of meetings were held between the American and British Governments involving British Prime Minster Winston Churchill and American President Franklin D. Roosevelt. During these the idea of using Avro Lancaster's of Bomber Command to attack targets in Japan was raised. This lead to an offer for 40 Lancaster squadrons to be made available for use in the Pacific, only once the hostilities in Europe had ceased, to be made by Churchill to the United States.
The US Chiefs of Staff, in principle, accepted the offer of the Lancaster squadrons on the 27th October 1944. The major obstacles for this plan was the availability of airfields in range of Japan and how to get, not only the Lancasters and their crews, but all the necessary support staff and infrastructure the nearly 14,000 miles by sea to the Pacific theatre which would take around 2 ½ months by sea.
Operation Mould
The 23rd November 1944 saw Operation Mould unveiled. These plans would see three groups each comprising of 12 heavy bomber squadrons equipped with either the Lancaster, Consolidated B-24 Liberator and the Avro Lincoln when it became available. Six long-range fighter squadrons comprising a number of aircraft including the Hawker Tempest Mk II and the de Havilland Hornet, when it became available. Alongside this the Australian First Tactical Air Force, equipped with the Supermarine Spitfire and Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk, along with the United States Far East Air Force, equipped with the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt and North American P-51 Mustang, would also be used for escort. A number of B-24 Liberators and Lancasters would also be converted to tankers for air-to-air refuelling.
This would become known as the 'Tiger Force' on the 24th February 1945 with Air Marshal Sir Hugh Lloyd being appointed its commander.
The 'Tiger Force'
As planning continued during early 1945 the end of April saw the make up of the force changed. This saw the six long-range fighter squadrons dropped from the order of battle, the air-to-air refuelling plan was also shelved and the 36 heavy bomber squadrons reduced to 20. There were also some new additions with four transport and one each of an air-sea rescue, Pathfinder and photo reconnaissance/meteorological squadron.
One of the major headaches was where the new force would be based. Two of the early options, neither of which was ideal, was to be based in the Philippines at North Luzon, which at best was 1,000 miles away from the force's envisaged targets. The second option was that the Royal Air Force built its own airbases from scratch. Whichever option was chosen the major phase of construction would require at least 100,000 men, not to mention the machines and logistics to support this endeavour.

On the 1st April 1945 the Allies invaded the Okinawa Islands, known as Operation Iceberg, and this battle would last until the 22nd June 1945. Prior to the end of this battle negotiations between the British and Americans had seen the US Chiefs of Staff propose the use of an airfield on Okinawa for the 'Tiger Force' which Winston Churchill approved on the 4th June 1945. Whilst this airfield would only have space for half of the 20 'Tiger Force' squadrons there were two main benefits. The British and the Americans would share the engineering and logistics of building the airfields and Okinawa was just 400 miles south of Japan, well within the Lancaster's range.
Two convoys were soon on their way, the first left Liverpool on the 20th June and was known as Shield. With the second convoy leaving on the 23rd July and this was known as Vacuum.
Modifying the Lancaster
Due to the very different conditions of the Pacific compared to Europe a number of modifications were made to the Lancaster. Firstly instead of the normal seven man crew this was reduced to six and the Rolls-Royce Merlin 24 engine was installed, along with the necessary tropical engine modifications. Other changes saw the installation of the landing gear that was to be used on the Avro Lincoln and new radio & navigation equipment. All these changes lead to the aircraft used being renamed Lancaster B.I (FE) and Lancaster B.VII (FE).
Another major change to the Lancaster was its camouflage scheme. The standard Bomber Command scheme in Europe was black undersides with green and brown on top, for the Lancasters in the 'Tiger Force' the black underside was kept but the top was painted in a heat reflecting white.
One of the ways to increase the Lancaster's range, alongside air-to-air refuelling was the addition of a 'saddle tank' behind the cockpit. This could hold an extra 1,200 imperial gallons of fuel and a pair of Lancaster B.Is (HK541) and (SW244) would be modified accordingly and this was called the Very Long Range Lancaster. This idea was discarded in favour of air-to-air refuelling which was then itself unnecessary after the airbases on Okinawa became available.
Lancaster Mk. B.I (SW244) with the 'saddle tank' modification.
Order of Battle - 26th July 1945
The first of the ten 'Tiger Force' squadrons, each with 20 aircraft, which would be under Air Marshal Sir Hugh Lloyds command were chosen from No. 5 Group, Royal Air Force and No. 6 Group, Royal Canadian Air Force. With the first five squadrons to be ready by the 1st December 1945 and the next five ready by February 1946. The force would be part of the United States Strategic Air Forces in the Pacific commanded by General Carl Spaatz, which had been established on the 2nd July 1945, with representatives of the RAF on General Spaatz's staff.
The first ten squadrons would be organised as follows:
551 Wing No. 9 Squadron
No. 617 Squadron Lancaster B.I and B.III
Lancaster B.VII (FE)
552 Wing No. 106 Squadron
No. 467 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force Lancaster B.I and B.III
Lancaster B.I and B.III
553 Wing No. 83 Squadron
No. 97 Squadron
No. 627 Squadron Lancaster B.I and B.III
Lancaster B.I and B.III
Mosquito Mk XVI and Mk XIX
554 Wing No. 75 Squadron, Royal New Zealand Air Force Lancaster B.I and B.III
662 Wing No. 419 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force
No. 428 Squadron, RCAF Lancaster B.X
Lancaster B.X
It was intended to phase out the Lancaster from these squadrons with the Avro Lincoln, which had made its first flight on the 9th June 1944, with No. 57 Squadron, RAF East Kirkby and No. 75 Squadron, RNZAF, based at RAF Spilsby, receiving the first Lincolns to be delivered during August 1945.
A third ship was to set sail on the 25th August 1945, this was in response to a request by General Spaatz for a pair of Tallboy Squadrons, Tallboy was a 12,000lb bomb which only the Lancaster could be equipped with, by the 15th October to fly from bases on Okinawa and play a role in the build up to the expected invasion of Kyushu, known as Operation Olympic, which was to begin on the 1st November 1945. This was part of Operation Downfall which was the overall plan to invade Japan.

The War Ends
Whilst the preparations for the 'Tiger Force' had been progressing the Allies Manhattan project, tasked with developing an atomic bomb, had completed and successfully tested one in New Mexico, America on the 16th July 1945. The following month saw the Allies drop the first atomic bombs in war when a Boeing B-29 Superfortress dropped one on the Japanese cites of Hiroshima on the 6th August 1945 and again three days later on the 9th August 1945 on Nagasaki.
The dropping of the second atomic bomb on the 9th had been preceded the day before by the Soviet Union's declaration of war on Japan which saw offensives launched in the North, East and West of Manchuria. As a result on the 10th August 1945 Japan offered to surrender and after negotiations on the 15th August 1945 the surrender of Japan was confirmed and on the 2nd September 1945 was formally signed. The Second World War (1939 – 1945) was over.
The Force is Disbanded
The two convoys Shield and Vacuum which had left the UK in June and July respectively and were to go to Okinawa were instead re-routed to Hong Kong, where they helped in the building of a new airfield. The 'Tiger Force' was officially disbanded on the 31st October 1945.

Aperçu of the week
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.”
(Nelson Mandela, anti-apartheid activist and politician who served as the first president of the current Republic of South Africa from 1994 to 1999)
Bad News of the Week
They try to spin it as a success, even a breakthrough: using a newly developed telescopic robotic gripper arm over 20 meters long, it has been possible to retrieve 0.7 grams of radioactive material from a reactor at the Japanese nuclear power plant in Fukushima. The plant was damaged by a tsunami 13 years ago. No, that's not a bad joke: 0.7 grams after 13 years. 880 tons still need to be salvaged. There are so many things that upset me about this story that I don't even know where to start. So I will limit myself to two aspects.
If things continue at this rate, it will take over 16 billion years to completely decommission the plant. That won't be the case, of course. But it is a fitting image to illustrate the immense time spans that are fundamentally involved with radioactivity - keyword half-life. Specifically, the operator TEPCO expects to be able to complete the decommissioning of the reactor units by 2051. Experts consider this timetable to be completely unrealistic. In addition, there is still no suitable equipment for recovering the nuclear waste, nor is there an interim storage facility, let alone a final repository.
For me, this is precisely the core reason for being against nuclear energy: the problem of final storage. According to Wikipedia, in 2022 there were 423 reactors in operation worldwide, 56 under construction and more than 100 planned. There are already more than 250,000 tons of heavy radioactive waste awaiting final disposal. The world's first final repository is due to be completed in Finland in the next few years. In Germany - incidentally, we shut down all nuclear power plants after the Fukushima meltdown and have already dismantled some of them - almost 2,000 employees of the state-run Federal Company for Final Disposal are working on this issue. Depending on the scenario, the planned end date for the search for a site is currently 2046 to 2068. The issue is therefore obviously highly complex. And only one thing is certain: future generations will be burdened with high costs and high risks for literally eternity.
Another issue is that of site security. Since Three-Mile-Island, but at the latest since Chernobyl, everyone knows how fatal any serious system failure at a nuclear power plant is, or must be. So you have to rule out as many eventualities as possible from the outset. Therefore - please excuse the direct question, dear Japanese - I wonder how stupid you have to be to build a nuclear power plant on the coast of an earthquake-prone tectonic plate boundary? As a result of the Niigata-Chūetsu coastal earthquake in 2007, the company's largest power plant, Kashiwazaki-Kariwa, had to be shut down for 21 months due to earthquake damage. The consequences of the Tōhoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami in 2011 for the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant were therefore anything but a surprise, but rather a disaster with an announcement. The question was not if, but when the catastrophe would occur.
What have we learned from this? Nothing. In March 2022, a majority of Japanese voted in favor of nuclear energy for the first time since 2011. In 2022 and 2023, the Japanese government adopted guidelines that provide for the lifetime of existing reactors to be extended beyond the previous limit of 60 years. And the current government under Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is even planning to build new nuclear power plants: “We need to make full use of nuclear energy”. In order to reduce its dependence on oil and gas imports, avoid electricity shortages and achieve its climate protection targets more easily. But at what cost?
Four lithospheric plates - the Eurasian, North American, Pacific and Philippine plates - meet beneath Japan. At their boundaries, the permanent plate displacement creates tensions that must discharge regularly but unpredictably - in the form of earthquakes that lead to tsunamis in the sea. Three-Mile-Island and Chernobyl are hundreds of kilometers away from such influences. And the meltdowns happened anyway. In Japan, it has always been madness to build such sensitive systems as nuclear power plants. And it will always be.
Good News of the Week
Oops, they did it again. The International Criminal Court in The Hague has issued an arrest warrant for a top politician. Last time, all the staunch democrats applauded - because it was issued against Vladimir Putin for war crimes against Ukrainians. This time, far fewer apparently convinced Democrats are applauding - because it was issued against Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes against Palestinians. At this point, I must once again make one thing very clear: I am a German. Who is fully aware of the historical guilt that our nation has for the suffering of the Jewish people. And who nevertheless refuses, as is expected of Germans and usually happens reflexively, to criticize nothing and absolutely nothing that Israel does.
Okay, now let's all take a deep breath and devote ourselves to the facts without any emotion. All kinds of independent observers - from journalists to the Red Cross to the United Nations - agree that the actions of the Israeli military in Gaza are also massively endangering the life and limb of civilians. To put it mildly, 43,972 people have been killed and 104,008 injured - according to figures released by the Israeli military itself on November 21, 2024. And according to the Geneva Conventions, this is a war crime. For which the head of state is, so to speak, vicariously liable under international law. In the past, no one has doubted this in the case of African despots, and they have not slaughtered thousands single-handedly either.
Many victims on the Palestinian side are not even in focus. This is because they live in the Israeli heartland, with many families having been resident there long before the Israeli state was founded. And they come to terms with their Jewish neighbors. After all, they are all human beings and not everyone allows themselves to be radicalized by political or ideological currents. And these Palestinians are now suffering from a tipped mood. And little Fatima wonders in the playground why little Sarah is no longer allowed to play with her. The same applies to the labor market, where low-skilled jobs were traditionally held by Palestinians. Now they are being thrown out and replaced by guest workers from India or Pakistan - “Hindus only” is the slogan of the hour.
At this point I have to take a short detour. Apartheid in South Africa shaped my political youth. In 1987, I enthusiastically sang along to white Zulu Johnny Clegg and Savuka: Asimbonanga, Asimbonang′ uMandela thina, Laph'ekhona, Laph′ehfeli khona. We have not seen him, We have not seen Mandela, In the place where he is, In the place where he is kept. “Free Mandela” was one of the first political pins I pinned to my school backpack back then. And when Nelson Mandela, Madiba, Tata, became South Africa's first truly freely elected president in 1994 and didn't spend a second contemplating revenge that would have been so well understood, I was proud to be a young man working for the South African Economic Consul to get the country back on its feet after years of sanctions.
What Israel is doing to the Palestinians is nothing less than apartheid. Part of the population is treated as second-class citizens. This has always been unjust and inhumane. And it will always remain unjust and inhumane. Condemning this has nothing whatsoever to do with anti-Semitism. It's also not automatically sexist if I think a female colleague is stupid. After all, I don't think that because she's a woman. It's because I think she's stupid.
The latest chapter is the so-called “administrative detention” that Israel has invented. In principle, this means being arrested without any concrete accusation or suspicion. Just like that. Which should not exist in a state governed by the rule of law. This is how Israel is taking action against terror suspects in the West Bank. And now there should only be detention for Palestinians. And no longer for Israeli settlers, even though they are known to be much more militant.
The whole thing makes me so incredibly sad. And I would be so incredibly happy if someone were held accountable for this. Preferably Benjamin Netanyahu. I have no illusions that one day he will actually sit in the dock, let alone be convicted. But I find it more than just symbolic value that an internationally recognized institution based in Europe has come to the conclusion, that he would deserve it. And nobody is above the law.
I couldn't care less...
...about the ridiculous results of the UN Climate Change Conference COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. “When reality doesn't give more” is the headline of the German Tagesschau news portal. And that is exactly what happened: not enough was given. Especially from the rich polluter countries in the North to the poor countries in the global South that are suffering the most from the consequences. My hopes are now pinned on the next conference in Brazil. Because Lula da Silva is undoubtedly the most convinced ecologist of all the G20 heads of state.
It's fine with me...
...that the SPD once again wants to go into the early federal elections with Olaf Scholz as its lead candidate. A spirit of optimism and glamor may look different to the beleaguered Chancellor, who is not called “Scholz-o-mat” for nothing. But he stands with both feet in the here and now and follows a solid moral compass. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of his main rival - the conservative candidate Friedrich Merz, who is far ahead in all polls. It's rare that Russia and I are of the same opinion: Scholz is the lesser evil.
As I write this...
...as a Swede, I would be reading the booklet “When a crisis or war comes”. The Swedish Civil Protection Agency (MSB) wants to prepare the population for an emergency with this information brochure, which has been sent to all households: “The security situation is serious and we must all strengthen our resilience in order to be able to face various crises and ultimately a war”. This reminds me darkly of the Cold War era with its fear of a fatal nuclear strike.
Post Scriptum
A colorful coalition - the red-yellow-green traffic light coalition of Social Democrats, Liberals and Greens - has just collapsed at federal level in Germany and it is almost surprising how long it has lasted without a fundamental consensus. Another colorful coalition - the black-purple-red blackberry coalition of conservatives, populists and social democrats - has just come together at state level in Thuringia and it is surprising that they have found a basic consensus.
A general newcomer, and not only in this constellation, is the populist party Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht). Formed less than a year ago through a split from The Left, it is difficult to categorize, as the party is considered left-wing in socio-economic terms and right-wing in socio-cultural terms. As a protest party, the BSW was quickly accused of focusing on fundamental opposition and shying away from taking responsibility.
This is why the down-to-earth pragmatism with which the Thuringian state association has set itself apart from its eponymous founder and drawn up a coalition agreement with the CDU and SPD is surprising. And regardless of what this agreement says, it is already a democratic victory. Because the association of these three parties prevents the election winner AfD (Alternative für Deutschland / Alternative for Germany), which is classified in Thuringia as definitely right-wing extremist, from taking power. Thank you.

Hello Tumblr.
I am reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and a sense of urgency. My relative, Myra Cillo, has recently been diagnosed with stage 2 to 3 ovarian cancer, and her immediate need for surgery has become apparent.
To provide her with the best chance of recovery, we require a total of 300,000 Philippine pesos (5,346USD) as soon as possible.
(1 Philippine Pesos is approximately 0.018USD)
The funds we raise will primarily be used to cover the costs of her surgery, including pre-operative procedures, medical equipment, surgical fees, and post-operative care. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be allocated to cover any unforeseen medical expenses that may arise during her recovery period. Our goal is to alleviate the financial burden on our family so that we can focus on my relative’s health and well-being.
Ovarian cancer is a formidable opponent, but with your generous contributions, we can ensure that she receives the vital treatment she deserves.

The Moonies and the Military Industrial Complex
△ Pictured: Japanese members with UC-produced weapons During the Vietnam War, the Unification Church was accused of supporting the South Vietnamese government and providing funding and resources to the South Vietnamese military.
In the 1980s, the church was reported to have provided support for the Contras in Nicaragua, a right-wing guerrilla group that was involved in the armed conflict against the Sandinista government.
In the 1990s, the church was linked to the Croatian military during the Balkan Wars, providing funding and resources to the Croatian military during its conflict with the Serbs.
In the early 2000s, the church was reported to have provided support for the U.S.-led war in Iraq, including through its close ties to the U.S. military and intelligence agencies.
In the same time period, the Unification Church was also linked to the war in Afghanistan, providing support to the U.S.-led coalition and the Afghan government.
These are just a few examples of the Unification Church's support for military interventions, but there may be other instances that have not been publicly documented.
The Moonie have a complex relationship with the military-industrial complex and its support for military interventions and wars of aggression.
This global religious organization that operates in many countries around the world has been criticized for its close ties to political and economic elites, as well as its support for right-wing political movements and causes.
One aspect of this relationship is the Unification Church's connection to the military-industrial complex. The church has been accused of providing support for military interventions and wars of aggression, including through its funding of right-wing political organizations and its close ties to military and intelligence agencies.
Critics argue that the Unification Church's support for military interventions is rooted in its conservative political ideology, which places a strong emphasis on national security and the use of military force to maintain stability and order. The church has also been accused of promoting militarism and aggression through its support for right-wing political movements and its involvement in military training programs.
The Unification Church's close ties to the military-industrial complex and its support for military interventions also raise concerns about the church's potential influence on government policies and its role in shaping global security and foreign policy. This relationship may also be indicative of a broader trend of religious organizations becoming involved in military and political affairs, often in ways that reinforce existing power structures and perpetuate violence and aggression.
The church has been criticized for its close ties to the military-industrial complex, including its relationship with weapons manufacturers and its involvement in military contracting.
The Unification Church has manufactured weapons for imperialist powers since at least the 1960s under Tongil Heavy Industries.
S&T Motiv is a South Korean technology company that provides a range of products and services, including military equipment and technology. The company is also a subsidiary of the Tongil Group, a Unification Church-owned business group (chaebol). S&T Motiv is known for its expertise in developing and producing advanced military technology, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), and other military equipment. The company has a strong presence in the South Korean market and is a major supplier of military equipment to the South Korean government and to other governments, including the Philippines. S&T Motiv weapons have been used by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, specifically units assigned to combat communist insurgents.
Unification Church-associated businesses and organizations continue to make millions every year from the US government and military.
These connections raise questions about the influence of the military-industrial complex on the church's political and economic activities, as well as the potential for conflicts of interest and the exploitation of vulnerable communities.
The Unification Church's support for military interventions and wars of aggression raises serious concerns about the church's political and ideological motivations, as well as its impact on local communities and global peace and stability. Further research is needed to better understand the church's relationship with the military-industrial complex and its involvement in military conflicts.

Reduced Maintenance: Corrosion-resistant washers require much less preservation, allowing industries to keep on prolonged-term charges and keep away from unnecessary downtime.
In the Philippines, wherein corrosive environments are not unusual, corrosion-resistant washers including stainless-steel and protected types are especially highly satisfactory.
3. Types of Washers for Corrosive Environments in the Philippines
Selecting the proper kind of washing machine is crucial to face up to the demanding situations posed by using humid and marine environments. Below are a number of the top choices for corrosion-resistant washers that can provide durability and stability in the Philippines.
Stainless Steel Washers
Stainless metallic washers are most of the best choices for humid and corrosive environments, way to their herbal corrosion resistance. The chromium in stainless-steel works as a protecting oxide layer on the surface, making it evidence in opposition to rust and corrosion.
304 Stainless Steel: Known for its versatility and affordability, 304 chrome steel is appropriate for a huge variety of applications. It gives suitable resistance to rust and is appropriate for humid but less corrosive environments.
316 Stainless Steel: With a higher molybdenum content material fabric, 316 stainless-steel gives advanced corrosion resistance, especially in competition to chloride-precipitated corrosion. This makes it best for marine packages and coastal tasks inside the Philippines.
Advantages: Stainless steel washers are strong, lengthy-lasting, and require minimum renovation. They are perfect for heavy-responsibility programs and face up to both humid and marine environments.
Limitations: Stainless steel washers may come at a better rate than number one metallic washers, however their sturdiness makes them nicely worth the investment.
Zinc-Plated Washers
Zinc-plated washers are covered with a layer of zinc that acts as a sacrificial layer, stopping corrosion of the underlying metal. These washers are value-powerful and appropriate for packages wherein mild corrosion resistance is sufficient.
Applications: Zinc-plated washers artwork properly in indoor environments or areas with occasional publicity to moisture, but they'll be less effective in marine settings.
Advantages: Zinc plating is much less high-priced and provides number one protection in opposition to rust.
Limitations: Zinc plating finally wears off, especially in particularly corrosive environments, making those washers lots less suitable for long-time period use in coastal regions.
Hot-Dip Galvanized Washers
Hot-dip galvanized washers are coated with a thicker layer of zinc, which affords greater corrosion protection in comparison to ordinary zinc-plating. This coating makes them appropriate for outdoor and exposed packages in which they are possible to come across moisture.
Applications: Hot-dip galvanized washers are often applied in production and out of doors installations exposed to the elements, which include excessive-humidity areas.
Advantages: They offer higher corrosion resistance than zinc-plated washers and can withstand humid and wet situations.
Limitations: While powerful, they're no longer as corrosion-resistant as stainless steel washers, mainly in marine or extensively acidic environments.
Polymer-Coated Washers
Polymer-coated washers consist of a specialized protective coating that gives high-quality corrosion resistance. These coatings are designed to prevent rust and are especially effective in environments wherein exposure to moisture and salt is high.
Applications: Polymer-protected washers are famous in marine and coastal applications wherein saltwater and excessive humidity are constant challenges.
Advantages: These washers provide high-quality corrosion resistance and may face up to harsh environments.
Limitations: Polymer-coated washers may be extra costly and may not provide the equal load-bearing strength as chrome steel.
4. Choosing the Right Washer Based on Environment
The choice of washers need to recall the precise environmental situations of the undertaking region. In the Philippines, the immoderate humidity and presence of salt in coastal regions can ensure washers greater suitable than others:
For Coastal and Marine Applications: 316 stainless-steel and polymer-covered washers are pleasant for areas near the coast or marine environments. Their resistance to chloride corrosion makes them appropriate for publicity to saltwater.
For Humid, Indoor Environments: For indoor applications in humid environments, 304 stainless steel or hot-dip galvanized washers are effective. They provide sufficient corrosion resistance without the top rate rate related to marine-grade substances.
For General Outdoor Use: Hot-dip galvanized or polymer-covered washers are appropriate for stylish outdoor packages, which incorporates construction responsibilities, as they offer moderate to high corrosion resistance.

Putin-Trump Call Denied: Russia Escalates Geopolitical Drama The Russian Riddle: When Diplomacy Meets Drone Swarms Who said geopolitics was boring? Imagine a chaotic chess match where the pieces are remote-controlled drones and the players are seasoned powerhouses flexing muscles across continents. Welcome to the latest episode of "Russia vs. Everyone Else," featuring miscommunication, aerial acrobatics, and a sprinkle of diplomatic drama—all live, from the most unpredictable theatre on Earth. Putin and Trump Call? Or Just a Phantom Connection? Rumor had it that President Putin and President-elect Trump had a little phone chat about the war in Ukraine—but Russia's Kremlin quickly crushed that rumor. Apparently, the so-called chat was as real as a Forex trader winning all trades without ever hedging: It’s the kind of fantasy we’d all like to believe but deep down, we know better. The Kremlin's official statement? No call, no chit-chat, nada. If you’re still wondering what’s real… maybe it's just time to check your trading signals again. A Slow Dance Between Moscow and Washington—But Who's Leading? While Trump reportedly urged Putin to keep his drones at bay, the Russian Foreign Ministry had another, moodier message: there’s no reason to rekindle talks with the US on strategic stability just yet. According to them, Trump’s confident promises to speedily resolve the Ukraine crisis are just that—rhetoric. A bit like a trader boasting about doubling their account in a week—until you see those risky scalps and Martingale maneuvers. Drones: The Newest "Gift" Between Russia and Ukraine Speaking of drones, Russia and Ukraine just swapped what might be their biggest batch yet—like neighbors exchanging fruit baskets, except these baskets cause a lot more "excitement" (and injuries, unfortunately). Ukrainian drones also took a midnight swing at a chemical plant in Russia's Tula region. We’re not saying trading during heavy news events is dangerous, but it’s starting to sound like a calmer option than living in Tula right now. North Korea Joins the Party As if things weren't complicated enough, Putin signed off on a strategic partnership with North Korea—because who doesn’t love an unpredictable wildcard? Meanwhile, Ukrainian commander Syrski is reporting whispers about North Korean troops potentially joining Russian forces on the battlefield. I mean, just when you thought your EUR/USD pair couldn’t get more volatile, geopolitical surprises like this happen. Markets might be unpredictable, but this conflict’s twists are on a whole new level of dramatic. China Draws Lines… Again Meanwhile, in the South China Sea, China’s standing its ground—or rather, its water. They firmly oppose the Philippines' Marine Zones Act, which they claim violates their territorial rights around Scarborough Shoal (or Huangyan Island, for those keeping score). As for the Philippines? They’re aiming to pick up a shiny new missile launcher from the US, because apparently, nothing says "neighborhood diplomacy" like a missile aimed right at your neighbor's fishing boat. Just another reminder that, sometimes, trading without proper risk management can be safer than international diplomacy. Xi’s New Orders: Military Moves from December 1st And over in China, President Xi just signed an order effective from December 1st to guarantee military equipment—presumably because when the world’s full of saber-rattling, you want to make sure your saber's well-oiled. Consider this an analogy for our trading setups—always check your tools before a big move. Unlike central banks, the market won’t let you have a do-over. Wrap-Up: Don’t Forget the Bigger Picture If today’s international chaos shows us anything, it’s this: Whether it’s military partnerships, drone tit-for-tats, or territorial disputes, there’s always something stirring the pot. As traders, we can’t control these external events, but we can be prepared. Just like managing a stop-loss or carefully analyzing market sentiment, understanding the political landscape can give us an edge. Stay informed, stay cautious, and—most importantly—stay out of the blast radius when things escalate. And now, a friendly reminder: The next time someone says "forex trading is like war," just smile knowingly. If today’s news is any indication, we’re all warriors—but with a lot less collateral damage. —————– Image Credits: Cover image at the top is AI-generated Read the full article

From Machine Operators to Maritime Pioneers: The Rise of OFW Entrepreneurs and Returning Student-OFWs in the Post-War Era (1950s-Present)
The post-World War II era marked a pivotal moment for the Philippines, a nation grappling with economic devastation and seeking avenues for recovery. The 1950s saw the nascent beginnings of a phenomenon that would profoundly shape the nation’s social fabric and economic landscape: the rise of the Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW). While initial waves focused on professionals like doctors and engineers recruited by the United States, a subtle shift began, laying the groundwork for the diverse OFW workforce we see today. This shift included a growing demand for skilled laborers, particularly machine operators, in various industries, from construction and manufacturing to the emerging maritime sector, specifically in international waters.
This era laid the foundation for what would become a global diaspora. Filipinos, driven by the desire for better opportunities and the hope of uplifting their families, began seeking employment abroad in increasing numbers. Machine operators played a significant role in this early phase. The demand for skilled labor in post-war reconstruction efforts globally created opportunities for Filipinos trained in operating heavy machinery, welding equipment, and other specialized machinery. This demand extended to international waters, where the shipping and maritime industries saw a resurgence. Filipino seafarers, known for their resilience and adaptability, found work on cargo ships, fishing vessels, and other maritime operations, venturing into international waters and sending remittances back home, contributing significantly to the Philippine economy.
The journey of these early OFWs, particularly machine operators in international waters, was far from easy. They faced numerous challenges, including cultural differences, language barriers, and often exploitative labor practices. Away from their families and navigating unfamiliar territories, they endured hardships and sacrifices to secure a better future for their loved ones. Furthermore, the lack of robust legal frameworks and protections for overseas workers made them vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. Despite these challenges, their resilience and determination laid the foundation for the OFW phenomenon that would continue to evolve in the decades to come.
The 1950s also saw the seeds of OFW entrepreneurship being sown. While not as prevalent as in later years, some OFWs, after gaining experience and accumulating savings, began to explore entrepreneurial ventures. They recognized opportunities in their host countries and back home, using their remittances to start small businesses, invest in properties, or support family members in establishing their own enterprises. This entrepreneurial spirit, fueled by the desire for financial independence and the ambition to create a more secure future, became a defining characteristic of the OFW community.
Fast forward to the present day, and the OFW landscape has transformed dramatically. While machine operators and seafarers remain crucial components of the OFW workforce, the range of professions has expanded considerably. From healthcare professionals and engineers to domestic workers and IT specialists, Filipinos are contributing their skills and expertise across diverse sectors globally. The entrepreneurial spirit observed in those early OFW pioneers has blossomed into a dynamic force. Many OFWs, upon returning to the Philippines, utilize their acquired skills, experience, and savings to establish their own businesses, contributing to job creation and economic growth within their communities.
However, the journey of an OFW, even today, is not without its challenges. Returning OFWs, particularly those who pursued further education while working abroad, often face a unique set of obstacles. Student-OFWs, who invested time and resources in enhancing their qualifications, sometimes struggle to find employment in the Philippines that commensurate with their newly acquired skills and experience. The disconnect between the skills and experience gained overseas and the available job opportunities back home can lead to underemployment and frustration. This challenge is particularly relevant for those who worked as machine operators or in other technical fields abroad. While their experience is valuable, the lack of comparable industries or opportunities within the Philippines can hinder their career progression.
Furthermore, the process of reintegrating into the Philippine job market can be daunting. Navigating the local employment landscape, updating professional networks, and adapting to the cultural nuances of the workplace can be challenging. The emotional and psychological adjustments of returning home after extended periods abroad, coupled with the pressure to secure suitable employment, can create a stressful transition for returning student-OFWs.
Addressing the challenges faced by returning student-OFWs requires a multi-pronged approach. Strengthening linkages between overseas employment programs and educational institutions can help ensure that OFWs acquire skills relevant to the demands of the Philippine job market. Promoting entrepreneurship and providing support for returning OFWs who wish to start their own businesses can create opportunities for self-employment and contribute to economic growth. Furthermore, fostering partnerships between government agencies, private sector companies, and OFW organizations can facilitate job matching and provide reintegration support services for returning student-OFWs. Resources like OFWJobs.org (OFWJobs.org) can play a vital role in connecting returning OFWs with potential employers and providing valuable information about the Philippine job market.
The story of the OFW, from the post-war era to the present day, is a testament to the resilience, adaptability, and entrepreneurial spirit of the Filipino people. From the early machine operators who ventured into international waters to the diverse and skilled workforce of today, OFWs have played a critical role in shaping the Philippine economy and contributing to the development of their communities. Recognizing and addressing the challenges faced by returning student-OFWs, particularly those seeking to leverage their overseas experience and education, is crucial for ensuring that their contributions are fully recognized and valued. Supporting their reintegration and creating pathways for their continued success will not only benefit individual OFWs but also contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the Philippines.
The evolution of the OFW phenomenon is ongoing. The global landscape continues to shift, influencing the demand for specific skills and creating new opportunities. Technology is playing an increasingly significant role in connecting OFWs with potential employers and facilitating communication with their families back home. The challenges and triumphs of the OFW journey continue to shape the narrative of the Filipino diaspora, highlighting the enduring strength and determination of those who venture abroad in search of a better future for themselves and their loved ones. It is a story of sacrifice, resilience, and the enduring hope for a brighter tomorrow. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the role of the OFW in the global economy is likely to become even more pronounced, emphasizing the need for continued support, recognition, and empowerment of these modern-day heroes. Their contributions are invaluable, and their stories deserve to be heard and celebrated.
