series masterlist | joel masterlist
“Joel—“ your voice was a whisper, hushed but urgent as you reached to grab his hand as it crept up your thigh beneath the blanket over both your laps.
You were at his parents house for dinner which turned into a movie night, Mary and Sarah on the loveseat, Paul in his lazy boy, Tommy and you on either side of Joel on the main couch.
The volume was up loud enough for no one to hear your whispers, and while they did seemed consumed with Jurassic Park, you weren’t sure you wanted to risk Joel’s parents, brother, and daughter finding the two of you fooling around.
Joel clearly didn’t share the same worries.
His hand crept higher, inching towards the hem of your sundress that had been teasing him all spring. Your hand remained over his, though you weren’t stopping him anymore, the warmth of his fingertips through the cotton covering your center impairing your judgement.
You turned your head to look at him, finding him convincingly lost in the movie, though you knew he was distracted. You bit your lip and faced forward, determined to prove you were just as good of an actor as your partner.
Joel’s fingers worked up and down your seam, pressing against you until you were nearly bucking to meet his fingers. In your peripheral, you caught him smirking, seemingly pleased by your neediness.
He teased you like that the entire movie, alternating between firm circles over your clit and long stroked up and down your seam, never letting you cum but giving you just enough attention to keep you on the edge the entire time.
By the time you arrived at Joel’s place and waited for Sarah to go to bed for the night, you were nearly aching from the build up. You yanked Joel down onto the sofa as he tried to lean down and give you a teasing kiss, your legs bracketing his hips as you straddled his lap, your lips on his neck.
“I need you so bad,” you whined in a whisper, your hands undoing his belt buckle and pulling him out. You stroked him in your palm until his brows were furrowed, his lips parted and plump as he watched you work him.
“Baby—“ He was cut off by you moving your panties to the side and sinking down onto him, his hands squeezing your hips as he watched his length disappear into you. “God damn.”
“Need you so bad,” you repeated, drunk on him. He wrapped both arms around your waist and hugged your body against his as he started thrusting you into you. One hand rested between your shoulder blades while the other rested over your tailbone, guiding you to meet his thrusts. You gripped onto his shirt, burying your face against his neck so that your moans would be muffled. Joel’s lips remained against the shell of your ear, whispering sinful praises that had your body humming for him.
“Did so good for me,” he purred, sending chills down your spine. “Lettin’ me work you up…here you go, baby. Take what you want.”
“Fuck,” you whined, your hips rocking furiously against his as you sought your own pleasure.
The head of Joel’s cock brushed and nudged against that spot inside you that had your thighs shaking, but the cherry on top was the way your clit grinded against the curls at the base of his shaft, the friction lighting you on fire. Your fists were balled in the cotton of his shirt as you got yourself off, Joel’s groans getting dangerously loud as he neared his own relief.
“Go on, baby,” he urged, his voice now just as desperate as yours. “Use me. Make yourself cum on my cock. Just like that. Good fuckin’ girl.”
“Joel,” you gasped, crumbling against him as your high hit you like a punch, turning you into putty in his arms. Joel held you close, rocking his cock into you slower until he spilled inside of you with a soft whine of your name. “Fuck,” you sighed as you regained your consciousness. “That was good.”
“So you’re not mad at me for bein’ a little shit?” he mumbled against your cheek as he kissed it. You smiled and shook your head against his chest.
“Not if it ends like that.”

Upcoming Taiwanese BLs
We are over halfway through 2024, and as usual, I've only had two Taiwanese BLs (Unknown, Anti Reset), so even though I'm sitting on a stack of BLs to watch every single week from other countries, call me Smaug because I need MORE!
Honorary Korean BL: Uncovering the Curse of Taekwondo (2024)
Tumblr media
Former friends (and possibly lovers) reunite at a funeral after going their separate ways for over a decade, but, honestly, I don't care about the plot because this comes from Hwang Da Seul who was behind Blueming, To My Star, and Where Your Eyes Linger, so I know it's going to be amazing. There is a movie and a series version, and the movie already premiered at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea at the beginning of July. The runtime was 154 minutes, but the series is eight episodes around thirty minutes each and is currently seeking distribution.
First Note of Love (August 2024)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My most beloved, Charles Tu, from my favorite BL HIStory 4: Close to You is finally returning to me in the form of a washed-up singer who stepped away from the spotlight due to a tragic event only to be dragged back in by an up-and-coming composer who is also a longtime fan. It is a joint production with Thailand's Star Hunter Entertainment (the company behind Big Dragon, Love Senior, City of Stars, and Sunset x Vibes) and features a side couple of a Thai singer and a Taiwanese agent. It will involve singing, but I'm already too comfortable in my seat with my snacks to care.
Fragrance of the First Flower Season 2 (2024)
Tumblr media
The lone GL holding down this list finished filming late last year and Gagaoolala has been releasing BTS images since filming began, so it'll likely land there once it is released. The series is a continuation of the 2021 first season, which people were not thrilled about because of the ending, so this season should solve some of the angst we were left with by exploring the two women actually coming together to navigate life as a couple.
The Only One (August 2024)
Tumblr media
Directed by Liu Kuang Hui, who directed Your Name Engraved Herein, written by the same folks behind The Untamed, and based on Mu Su Li's novel A Certain Someone which is about two boys whose parents are dating and move in together, so the mains go from enemies-to-??? and the only reason for the question marks on a Taiwanese BL is because the word on these BL streets (and his MDL page) is one of the actors works heavily in China, so this might be the reason this one has been was in limbo even though filming finished earlier this year, but the socials are still posting it's coming this year.
See Your Love (Filming Complete)
Tumblr media
This co-production with Japan is about a rich man who falls in love with his hearing-impaired caregiver. It finished filming at the end of May and will have those sweet sweet Taiwanese BL cameos from some Be Loved in House: I Do and Plus and Minus folks PLUS it will be the first cameos for the Kiseki: Dear to Me guys since the company that produced their show is the same one for this show.
Impression of Youth (Filming Complete)
Tumblr media
Very little is known about the plot of this teacher-student romance, but it comes from the same folks who produced DNA Says Love You and one of the mains, Muji Hsu, was also the lead in 2020's Because of You. Filming finished at the end of May, and the company stated it would be out before the end of the year.
Islanders (late 2024/early 2025)
Tumblr media
This is based on a novel, Islands, by Lolita Hu, features some well known Taiwanese actors, and for a bit was under the name Sea of Intimacy. It's being presented as an 'older BL' but the MDL summary is sparse of the BL-plot: Hung, a successful entrepreneur, has three intimate relationships: his wife, his mistress, and his girlfriend. The lives of these individuals in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s are intertwined because of romance, but their story extends beyond that. When Hung faces criticism on social media and loses everything, the way they react tells us how they see the world.
Wishing Upon the Shooting Star & The Young Gangster (2025)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two deal with completely different plots but are together because of one reason: Ray Jiang. He is the director for these two and was the director for Unknown, My Tooth Your Love, and We Best Love. The companies behind them have stated the series are coming next year, but the guess is Ray's busy schedule is part of the hold up since he has a Netflix series in the works and apparently a film featuring Sam Lin (We Best Love) on the way. The Young Gangster is based on a novel and deals with a research assistant gathering information on the mafia (and we know how the mafia works in BLs), while Shooting Star deals with a man wishing that nobody notices him once he returns to his hometown after being fired. The wish backfires and nobody recognizes him, not even his dad or the boy he confessed to in high school! BL Mafia, Sideways Wishes, and Ray Ray are my favorite types of snacks!
Pray in Love (2025?)
youtube
A police officer falls in love with a man only to realize that man is the son of a prominent leader on the day of his arranged wedding in which he was hired as security for the event. The series already released a short film of the basic premise for fundraising efforts and festival rounds. Apparently, filming has started on the series, but there is no concrete confirmation from the production company.
Eternal Butler (2025)
Tumblr media
Edited to add thanks to @cankersoregirl! This is a sequel to VBL's Anti Reset and began filming in early July. It focuses on Ever 4 who is sent to be a bodyguard for a young rich man only to encounter a rebellious man.
That Year, 162 Rainfalls (In Production?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is this a movie? Is it a series? Is it happening?! Who knows, but last year, it finally got funding and a director attached to it, but the real kicker is Lin Pei Yu is the screenwriter, and she is the writer behind all of my favorite Taiwanese BLs: We Best Love, HIStory 3: Trapped, My Tooth Your Love, Kiseki: Dear to Me, and so much more. Basically, the company struck gold getting her for this story about two archers and best friends. One gets confessed to but admits he actually is in love with his best friend, but before love can happen, the best friend has an accident and falls into a coma. It is based on a novel of the same name, and the plot is way more hefty than this, but I know Lin Pei Yu will make it work!
Four Seasons (Pre, Pre, PRE-Production?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is supposed to be four different stories focusing on different seasons, and is rumored to be VBL's next group of shows since the company has stated it wants to continue its formula from last year of releasing slightly connected shows. VBL/Vidol was behind Stay by My Side, VIP Only, You Are Mine, and Anti Reset. Winter is about a scrooge CEO and a florist who is hired to decorate for the CEO's Christmas event. Spring is about two boys meeting on a bus and falling in love over music. Summer is about a market owner and a chef falling in love over food. Autumn is about two former best friends seeing each other ten years after graduating and exploring their hometown together.
Connecting to You (Pre-Production?)
Tumblr media
It seems to have gotten funding, but it's been quiet since which isn't surprising because when it comes to Taiwanese BLs, nothing is really heard until filming begins or even after it ends. I still have my hopes high because this is *THE* BL for me as it deals with a man who can see colored threads connecting people and one day runs into a policeman whose thread connects to him. The thread between them begins to change color, from silver-grey to yellow, representing friendship, and even to red, representing love. If I have to sell an organ or two to fund this myself, I. Will. Do. It. I NEED THIS!
And this wouldn't be a Petty Post if I didn't include this final one:
HIStory 15: Freed (GIVE IT TO ME!)
Tumblr media
I don't care if this a long shot. I don't care if I seem crazy always asking for this. I. Deserve. It. HIStory 3: Trapped ended with our best mafia boy in prison, and it's time he got out! The HIStory franchise has not had a series since 2022's HIStory 5: Love in the Future, and although there have been rumors that a HERstory story might be next, I think bringing back a popular story would be just as good. I will ask for this every chance I can until I get it, and I plan on living a long life, so I got time!

The Acolyte's critiques of the Jedi Order make a lot of sense in the context of cops. Hear me out.
SPOILERS FOR THE ACOLYTE
Sol feared the worst for Osha and Mae. Individually, he clearly had a strong protective streak. And as a Jedi, he had a responsibility to seek out Force-sensitive children under the self-righteous* assumption that only the Jedi could properly raise such children. But that protectiveness, and the inherent fear that a threat existed in the first place, made Sol overreact multiple times; right up to stabbing Mother Aniseya because he did not know what her magic did. Sol's protectiveness and righteousness led to aggression; Torbin's impatience led to recklessness; even Master Indara's attempts to swiftly end the conflict and save Kelnacca unwittingly incapacitated/killed the entire coven.
Even with the best of intentions, emotional attachment impaired judgement. Because the Jedi are not perfect people, and cannot be expected to handle all situations with detachment and perfect level-headedness, despite their role as peacekeepers. Not because the Jedi are wholly evil, but because they are human (psychologically. not all biologically, of course).**
The Jedi team interfered with an unfamiliar community, in excessive numbers***. They invaded without authorization. They used excessive force in response to mistaken threats. Do you see where I am going with this?
And of course, the cover-up. I cannot stress how important the cover-up is. Master Sol completely broke Jedi conduct, but so everyone on the team who became complicit, and so did the Council for concealing the truth. Thus, to save face before the Senate when the truth came out, Master Vernestra decided to cast Sol as the single flawed actor amongst an otherwise-pristine order; the bad apple. Which is exactly the kind of rhetoric used by police departments when police officers use excessive force or outright murder innocent people.
Some might say that a Star Wars show criticizing police is 'too woke' or 'too liberal' or some bullshit, but there's actually some pretty obscure Star Wars media that set a precedent: it's called A New Hope. And The Clone Wars. And Rebels. And Revenge of the Sith.
Star Wars, as a franchise, began with a rebellion against an unjust, tyrannical, galaxy-wide police state. George Lucas even cites the US's role in the Vietnam War as one of his primary inspirations. During the Galactic Empire, stormtroopers patrol backwater worlds and fight wars alike; and during the Clone Wars, so do the Jedi.
The Empire's aesthetic is pretty fucking cool. Lightsabers are badass, I love their design. Imperial March slaps. The Sith and Jedi include some of Star Wars' most epic, and intriguing, characters. But those are all parts of the storytelling, the fantasy. Decrying tyranny and self-righteous control has always been at the heart of Star Wars.
*This is not inherently false, either. The Jedi indeed know far more about supporting Force-sensitive children than Glup Shitto of Dantooine. But in this case, the team knew nothing about this witches coven, their relationship with the Force, or their culture. And Sol assumed the worst.
**And it is a good thing that Jedi are imperfect! It makes for compelling characters! Even down to the original trilogy, Luke's defiance of the Emperor is so compelling because he almost gave in to his anger. Obi-Wan's steadfast morality and dedication make his lies all the more meaningful.
*** This part isn't even conjecture, this is canon. Indara explicitly mentions that having all four Jedi confront the coven could be seen as an act of aggression.

Wang Yibo BTF Beijing Premiere Highlights!!!!
aside from bobo being so unfairly gorgeous, well-spoken and generous with the audience the entire event — here are some specific bits that happened during the viewers interaction.
Tumblr media
• a young girl gave her drawing to Bobo, she specifically said that she wants to give it to the one who flies the plane. also said jiayou to Bobo, to which he responded : received! 🫶
• he talked about working closely with test pilots and how the sound of the jets will be stuck in his mind ( gifset i made here )
• thoughts on lei yu and his parents : It's really hard to express in words. I think the relationship with his parents, because Lei Yu is young, he is very aggressive and has his own ideas. He may insist on what he wants to accomplish. , He felt that he had to do this thing and finish it. ( in the previews, his parents are against him being a test pilot because of how dangerous it is )
• he mentioned that actors encourage each other to workout 💪🏻 ( release the workout video! )
• he became teary eyed in one of the exchanges when he learned that one group participating in the audience are visually impaired. so they can only “hear” the movie. Yibo was so touched. Our soft hearted boy! 🥹🥹🥹 this is also the topic that went on HS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• the interactions are mostly touching, like when a woman who is a retired soldier choked up talking about her experience before and seeing her friends hurt. Also this one, passing the torch to the new generation and Yibo saluting. 🫡
• Yibo saying that the trailer was so compressed. ( i have to agree on this, but that’s good cause there will be more surprises when you watch the actual film )
• Dapeng was there! He was part of the “audience” and asked a question. I really love the support they give each other!
• not only the tears, he smiled alot too! ☺️

I WISH BORN TO FLY ALL THE SUCCESS! ✈️

what i am so frustrated by with the live action atla trailer (beyond the fact that it’s just not a live action able) is how zuko got burned
like 1. the scar. is so small. LET HIM BE DISABLED!!! PLEASE!!! this is y’all’s chance to make him blind and at LEAST hearing impaired if not deaf on that side bro!!! come ON!! 2. i haven’t watched the whole trailer but based on gifs and how the scar is it doesn’t aline with what actually happened. in the show it’s quite obvious that Ozai held his hand up to zukos face and burned him. purposely. and he tried to do the same to aang in the last fight!! like that takes so much emotion and depth out of zukos backstory!! if they can’t even get that right im honestly terrified abt what they’re gonna do with sokkas trauma and ursa
i’m just not excited. at all. i’m actually kind of dreading it bc im like half sure that the og show is going to get shoved into the background if the live action is good and it’s just. idk. you can’t properly transfer atla into live action. i’m sorry. it’s not possible. i’m 100% sure that the actors are very very very talented and the cgi is good but atla is an animated show.
idk i feel like this is an unpopular opinion and that i’ve spent too much time analyzing these fuckers

Poll #8 is really interesting! Assuming you’ve already gone and kidnapped them, you’re risking possibly going to jail if you get caught with them outside especially if there’s someone out there who can actually, you know, hear them scream and see the panic in their face. I would be too paranoid to let them out and would try to come up with other things, even if it means paying an actor to talk to them on the phone acting as their mother or something.
However, if we were outside late into the night and a drunkard came and darling was starting to get weird ideas… I would encourage them to come home, if only because the person is drunk and - even if darling asks for help - they’re impaired enough as is that it may be easier to beat them up and get them knocked out (I’m assuming that you’d be always ready with a weapon of some sort in hand just in case), people probably won’t believe the testimony from some drunkard who got their ass beat - worst case scenario you have to lie and say they were harassing you and made up a story to justify their actions, too embarrassed to admit they got their ass beaten or ashamed of causing a scene, and you acted in self defense when this drunk loser came up to attack you. Whatever the case is, the drunk won’t be able to do too much, already physically and mentally impaired by the alcohol you have leverage over them by not being drunk and having darling with you, and you can make an example out of no one being able to help darling since everyone is too useless to do so. Worst case scenario you beat up the person and punish darling for trying to escape, maybe break a phone or two and threaten some punk that it was a dream and not to say a thing.
I am glad you enjoyed thinking about this scenario! :D
I wanted to spice things up for a change and I'm glad I was able to! Honestly, I think you said it all, but thank you for sharing your thoughts on this ♥

The Other Works of “The New Employee” Director Kim Jho Gwang Soo ***Mild Spoilers Ahead***
Tumblr media
Given that I am currently LOVING Korea’s newest office-set BL The New Employee, I thought others might be interested to explore the other works of this darling show’s director, Kim Jho Gwang Soo.  Here I am going to focus on projects that he screenwrote and/or directed as those are his queer works.  Many of them are available on Gagaoolala.
Who is Kim Jho Gwang Soo? As outlined in his MyDramaList biography, he is an openly gay South Korean filmmaker.  After collaborating with another openly gay director named Lee Song Hee Il’s 2006 film “No Regret” (regarded as Korea’s first gay feature film), he began to write and direct his own projects, as well as work as a producer.
I realized after starting the New Employee that I have seen almost all of Kim Jho Gwang Soo’s works that he has directed or written without knowing it was all by him, so I wanted to give a little rundown of his projects so other people can discover them as well!  Synopses are going to be from MDL and the title of each film will be the link to its MDL page.
NOTE: This summary will contain some mild spoilers for the purpose of trigger warnings!!  However, this post is also going off my memory and I have not watched everything recently so I apologize if I miss any warnings!  I will also give a blanket content warning for homophobia.  Most of his past works are not really set in the new Korean-BL world where homophobia barely exists so it is a theme in most, but not all, of his other projects.
Boy Meets Boy (2008) - Short film, Director & Screenwriter
Synopsis: On a warm spring day Min-soo, a small boy, meets tall and broad-shouldered Seok-yi inside a bus.  Min-soo keeps looking at the intimidating boy whose sharp eyes are hidden under his baseball cap. Min-soo's heart starts beating.  What will happen to Min-soo and Seok-i?
Thoughts: Super cute short film that the synopsis basically sums up.  Not a lot happens but it sure is adorable.  Happy ending.
Just Friends? (2009) - Short film, Director & Screenwriter
Synopsis: Min Soo is on leave from the military and visits his boyfriend Seok Yi. While having fun out on the town, they run into Min Soo's mother! When Min Soo's mother asks about their relationship, Seok Yi replies "... just friends." Making things more complicated, Min Soo's mother ends up sleeping with them that night!
Thoughts: My personal favorite of his pre-TNE works.  Stars (now-well-known) actors Lee Je Hoon and Yeon Woo Jin.  This is one of my favorite short films of all time.  A succinct and satisfying story in under 30 minutes, fantastic chemistry, adorable couple moments, and family drama.  It is also a follow up to Boy Meets Boy, but it’s not necessary to watch that one to understand and enjoy this one!  Happy ending, but some angst thrown in beforehand.
Love 100C (2010) - Short film, Director & Screenwriter
TW: homophobic violence
Synopsis: A hearing-impaired boy, Min Soo, is gay, and he likes his classmate, Ji Seok.  One day, Min Soo impulsively has sex with a man who works in a public bath, an experience that lends him a new-found confidence, but at a heavy price.
Thoughts: This is a pretty big departure from his first two short films, while it is happy for a bit of it, the film explores the danger of living in a homophobic society.  Ultimately it is a film about sexual self discovery as well as how queer people are often robbed of safe and healthy self discovery because of violence inflicted upon them.  Definitely NOT a happy ending.
Two Weddings and a Funeral (2012) - Full-length film, Director
TW: death, homophobic violence
Synopsis: A gay man, Min Soo and a lesbian, Hyo Jin are both promising doctors at a general hospital. The colleagues agree to marry so Hyo Jin can legally adopt a child with her lover of ten years Seo Yeong, and Min Soo can please his parents while maintaining his closeted lifestyle. While secretly living with their respective partners, who move in next door, Min Soo and Hyo Jin appear to be a happy, "normal" couple. They enjoy all the benefits afforded to heterosexual couples and are also able to ward off public scrutiny and parental disapproval. However, Min Soo's intrusive parents begin to get a bit too involved with the couple's life, threatening their scheme.
Thoughts: There are parts of this movie I really enjoy.  It was great to have both a gay and lesbian couple in the film and a lot of the film revolved around the gay lead’s group of gay friends.  There was also a lot of playing with Korean honorifics within the friend group that I found really cool to listen to.  However, I didn’t love how the most fem gay character was treated throughout the film and it was quite shocking in a bad way at some points, given that it is supposed to be a romantic comedy.  A happy ending, but at what cost, lol.
One Night Only (2014) - Short film, Director
I think this is actually two short films released together, but I have only seen the second part “One Night” and not the first part “Night Bug,” so I am going to focus on “One Night.”
Synposis: Geun Ho is almost hit by a car. At that time, Joon, who is visiting Jinju from Seoul, saves Geun Ho. They happen to meet at a bar later that night. Geun Ho and his friends goes to Seoul with Joon.
Thoughts: It has been ages since I watched this one, but I think I mostly liked it.  Not really a happy ending, but as far as I can remember does not contain violence in the way that some of his other works do.  While the MDL synopsis doesn’t mention it, the film actually focuses both on Geun Ho as well as his 2 friends, not only Geun Ho.
Made on the Rooftop (2021) - Full length film, Director
TW: serious medical issues.
Synopsis: Ha Neul, a job seeker who has nowhere to go after breaking up with his lover, Jung Min, moves to the house of his best friend Bong Shik, who lives in a tiny room. Bong Shik working as a BJ with a high tension + one-person broadcasting concept is courted by Min Ho, an attractive straight-forward man, but somehow just hesitates. Ha Neul and Jung Min try to reconcile, but they only go against each other and unintentionally hurt each other. One day, Jung-min is in a car accident and Ha Neul has to bring back Ari, the cat they used to raise together.
Thoughts: I really loved this movie.  Focuses on two friends and their respective romantic lives.  Deals with the realities of being in a closeted gay relationship with no legal rights when there is medical emergency, coming out to family, HIV, etc.  It is also genuinely really funny and, at many times, incredibly sweet and heartwarming.  One couple has a complete happy ending and the other has an open/unresolved but hopeful ending.  I would definitely recommend.
I hope anyone who sees this considers checking out these films.  Most (if not all) are available on Gagaoolala, but you can likely find them other places as well (but please support legitimate streaming if you’re able)!!  Also who else can’t wait for the next episode of The New Employee?

Show: *is produced by CBS*
Captions: Made possibly by CBS
Captions: *not synced* *often say different words, sometimes completely different phrases from what the actors actually said*
How is it so hard to get fully accurate captions? For folks like me who ALWAYS keep captions on, it’s distracting and annoying to have it not match up. Can’t they give the final scripts to the captions department after filming? Does no one ever proof-read the episodes? There’s so much that’s obviously wrong that it seems they just run it through voice-to-text and call it a day. And let’s not forget that for hearing-impaired folks who are actually relying on the captions, this can make things hard to understand because they don’t know what the words are supposed to be when a character’s speaking too fast for the software to understand, but a proof-reader could, or the script would’ve spelled out.

If I see anyone harassing Miya Cech for being cast as Toph and not actually being blind, SO HELP ME!!!
I already made a post about how I don't think that choosing a sighted actor to play Toph would be messing with representation (due to the fact that Toph's bending literally negates her blindness almost entirely when it comes to physical stuff), so I won't go over that again, but I will say:
If you want good disabled/blind/visually impaired representation, support characters who DON'T have superpowers that negate their disability!!! THAT is how we get representation on screen: characters like Echo whose superpowers don't magically make her able to hear - she's still deaf (and played by a deaf actress!).
While I don't think a blind actor COULDN'T play Toph, I think that - especially with the casting call specifically encouraging blind people to audition - with how specific of a character Toph is (young asian woman/teen capable of high-level martial arts), to me, it looks like the casting directors did their best to find the perfect person for Toph and any visually impaired candidates just didn't fit the bill.
Do I want to see more 'own voices' representation on screen? Yeah, I do. Do I think that casting a sighted person to play a 'blind' character with superpowers that negate their disability is taking away that representation? No, not exactly.
I just go back to - please, direct your frustration to the true source (lack of real disability rep and overabundance of stories where powers negate disability or the disability comes halfway through the story (can't really cast someone who needs a wheelchair almost exclusively in a role that starts out with the character active and not in a wheelchair and then later becomes a wheelchair user)) rather than attacking an actress just playing a role.
Once we get more stories where the minority group is able to actually be represented - and not just an 'origin' story for their disability (also relevant to trans coming out/transition stories where a trans actor might not be super jazzed about playing a character pre-transition - of course that's a whole other discussion to have and up to each individual trans person if they're comfortable with playing that character arc), then we'll really get to see minority rep actually being on screen and acting out their own stories.
tldr; don't harass the actress playing Toph because she isn't blind. I mean, don't harass people period, but especially don't try to shield your attacks with the guise of it being 'social justice'. Let's get more REAL blind rep into stories so blind people can actually safely play those characters

TV Show - CSI: Las Vegas IV
We did it! The middle of the second season brought the much talked about changes in the aspect ratio, and at the same time, although it was subtly hinted at the beginning of the season, the lab and the interrogation rooms also changed.
Tumblr media
But before we can enjoy this new, wonderful, screen-filling view, we have to go through another tough battle. Because yes, I'm harping on it, but Catherine is really exhausting at the beginning of the second season.
So far, she hasn't been confirmed as supervisor, and she graciously declined the temporary takeover by Grissom. Yet she behaves constantly like a boss, always bringing up that she's not properly appreciated, and her interactions with colleagues are just impossible; that's just not teamwork, sorry. Yes, she's supposed to be portrayed as the strong woman, and I can understand a certain gruffness there, but I find her incredibly disrespectful when working with Nick, Greg, or Sara. They're her colleagues and teammates, what's up with that??
This brings us directly to another point that struck me in the first part of the second season, namely the treatment of Greg. The impetus for this came from a comment by Grissom when Greg dared to call Paul Millander clever in his eyes. You can do that, and yes, Grissom is particularly involved in this case, but that was kind of intense. It made me realize that Greg is being treated quite disrespectfully. After all, he's a crucial point in almost every investigation; let's remember how often Grissom is with him, gets some info, and leaves with the idea to solve the case. It's no different with the others, and yes, Greg can be difficult, but he simply doesn't deserve this treatment.
Now I've watched one episode in the new format, and it feels like they've changed quite a bit here. We've already mentioned the aspect ratio, and as a result, the camera shots of the city feel much more natural and fuller. But even with the individual characters, more is revealed or they are set in scene differently. There's more play with the composition of the individual shots, and it feels like the series has undergone a facelift. The aforementioned lab has also changed; it hasn't received the full glass setup yet, but the somewhat outdated look from the first season is gone. Now, they play even more with the light; through the glass fronts, some shots can be better executed, and characters are often accompanied by the camera when walking through the facility or from one lab to another.
Other actors also have one of their first appearances here, just like back then in Dr. House. So we see an even younger Jeremy Renner and a very young Amanda Righetti, who will later become a regular on The Mentalist. What becomes of Jeremy Renner should be known!
With Paul Millander, who pulled a pretty big rabbit out of his hat in his last episode, we've also dealt with one of the first episode-spanning villains. Tammy is still around, but I found that Paul was much more present, especially because he managed to establish himself as a judge.
Meanwhile, Grissom's hearing impairment has also become noticeable, which will manifest more frequently as the series progresses. I especially like the episode where he reveals that he knows sign language because I really like Deanne Bray. She's always a ray of sunshine when I see her in a series, and it's fun to watch her speak or gesture in sign language. I just saw that she's also in Heroes for a longer period (9 episodes). Luckily, this series is also still on my rewatch list.
Now that we're practically in full throttle, because Doc Robbins and Super Dave are fully on board, along with Archie, who used to sit behind the cameras at a university and now works in his role as Archie in the CSI, we can really get started. My brain is already being flooded with wild memories, and I'm more excited than ever that I started this rewatch.
And don't worry, I haven't forgotten that we've already had the pleasure of meeting the charming Lady Heather. But I'll save that for the next post because we know there's still a lot more to come.

PUSS IN BOOTS:THE LAST WISH SHINANIGANS
“ I hope this doesn’t awaken something within me” I say while watching the wolf villain in Puss in Boots as if Tigress from Kung Foo Panda didn’t awaken me when I was 10
“Ew” I accidentally yell when the water dude shows up in the elements trailer the entire row in front and behind me laughs
“Make them both queer” I yell at the end of the elements trailer
*scattered laughs at that one*
“His eyes are rolling into the back of his skull he’s enjoying that shit” I point aggressively at -THAT- bowuigi scene in the trailer while staring my friend down
“He’s being tortured” my friend replies

“He’s a lizard??” My friend hushes
“So????”
“He might not even have a penis”
“Actually if he’s a lizard he’d have a cloaca, and I can work with that”
I traumatized my man guys, also accidentally showed him my bowuigi monster fucker nsfw art by accident one time.
“LUIGI MY BABYGIRL” * I make grabby hands at the screen*
“BOOOOO” *i throw popcorn at Chris Pratt’s Mario

“I want him” I whisper at the grim reaper wolf, but I am awful at whispering cause of my hearing impairment and more talk at an outdoor volume.

A Sign of Affection Episode 1 Review - Love Under The Silent Snow
This is actually a really good premise for a romance show! I really like it! It’s unique in that it’s a shoujo set in a college environment when the genre usually prefers high school love stories. The fact that it’s a love story between a hearing-impaired girl and her upperclassman who is a globetrotting backpacker is also interesting! I really liked what I saw in this first episode!
Tumblr media
I know that there’s going to be a lot of comparisons to A Silent Voice, but A Sign Of Affection actually differs a lot despite sharing similar premises. Unlike A Silent Voice, being deaf isn’t all of Yuki Itose’s shtick as she has so much personality despite being reserved. While she cannot hear, she still loves cute things like clothes and objects; heck, the story starts with Yuki happy that she got a very cute dress for a good price. She’s not bullied for being deaf, nor is she treated as lesser for her disability. She’s an ordinary college student who just happens to be deaf. She communicates well with her friends and her schoolmates. She has a good relationship with her mom. She’s never seen as pitiful, which is a good thing as stories about disabilities shouldn’t be seen as pity-parties all the time; those with disadvantages can still live happy lives. While it defines her, it’s not who she is all the time. She’s not a poor girl who needs to be constantly saved by an able-bodied knight in shining armor; in fact, he only helped her once and she becomes infatuated that she’s the one going out of her way to get his deets. Yeah, get your man, Yuki! I do like that while her life is peaceful, she still has some ups and downs that aren’t dramatic like how her friend Rin had to explain to Kyouya, the cafe owner about Yuki’s disability, which Yuki catches on about, but doesn’t say anything. She knows that her disadvantages will always have these little minor aspects, and listening to her thoughts really makes me want to give her a hug.
I know that some people might question why Yuki has hearing aids, but cannot hear very well. Hearing aids don’t give deaf people complete hearing, just partial. Maybe Yuki is wearing them just so she can show people that she’s deaf and that it wouldn’t cause misunderstandings. Who knows? Like how people like carrying around devices that give them convenience and comfort, Yuki most likely does the same. Maybe she wears them because she’s comfortable doing so and it’s more of a habit than than anything. I hope this does get explained a bit in future chapters so that viewers won’t have to ask questions constantly.
Itsuomi Nagi is quite interesting as the male lead. He’s a globetrotting backpacker, meaning that he doesn’t like to stay at one place all the time. While he’s a college student, he likes going to foreign countries. Because of that, he’s familiar with different languages. His voice actor, Yu Miyazaki is actually proficient in English and it shows! The way he asked the guy on the train if he needed any help was actually good English, albeit a tad accent on the “need” part. Still, an English speaker like me approves of it! I do wonder if his wanderlust will be a source of conflict or if it’ll be a source of bonding between our leads. Personality-wise, Itsuomi doesn’t seem like a scumbag. However, he is a bit too touchy when it comes to Yuki and that does bother me a bit. Maybe because I don’t really like skinship and I value my personal space. I feel like this guy’s only flaw is that he’s too touchy and doesn’t respect Yuki’s personal boundaries. Other than that, I just hope he’s a nice guy. Please don’t make him turn out to be a red flag. Please…
Rin is actually a really good friend. She doesn’t pity Yuki and treats her like an equal. However, there is still a slight border between her and Yuki at times. She has a huge crush on Kyouya Nagi, the cafe owner and Itsuomi’s cousin. I want to see more of her; maybe her and Kyouya are the side couple that helps Yuki and Itsuomi get together?
However, that Oushi guy though… He gives off weird vibes. He saw Yuki running along all happily and he was like “What’s wrong with her?” I just hope he’s not that one jerk who treats Yuki as lesser due to her disability. He’s gonna be on my shit list if that happens. I can’t wait to see other characters too.
I really love the implementation of snow used in this episode. Yes, the ‘snow means love’ trope is a cliche, but damn it, it works. Heck, the kanji in Yuki’s name literally means snow. She’s her own ‘snow means love’ trope. I do love the symbolism of snow in a way. Snow falls down and it is a silent weather condition, much like how Yuki’s world is a silent one. Snow is also white and blank, meaning that Yuki’s white world can finally be full of color now that she met Itsuomi. Maybe I’m looking into this a bit too much.
The voice actors are so good. Sumire Morohoshi is finally a lead in a shoujo anime. She has a soft voice that works well for the reserved shoujo leads; she suits Yuki so well. Yu Miyazaki is actually a voice actor I’m not too familiar with, but I do like his voice. It sounds perfect for someone like him. Like, he doesn’t sound too young or too old. I also love that he can speak English too. I hope he can speak more later on! Other voice actors in this show are Kaede Hondo, who plays Rin—good choice for a rising star; Ryota Ohsaka voices Kyouya—he always has a nice voice that suits ikemen characters; Takeo Otsuka voices Oushi—I need to see more to evaluate more; Tasuku Hatanaka voices the hair salon guy—wait, what? I never knew Hatanaka could produce a voice like that. I usually associate him with his rather gravelly, gruff voice. That’s so cool. Anyways, I do wonder who else will be in the voice cast of this anime. I’m satisfied with the results.
Overall, I think this has the potential to be a great romance. I can’t wait to see what it has in store. If I really enjoy it once it finishes airing, I’ll definitely buy the manga! What are your thoughts on the first episode?

Peaceful Property EP 1 Thoughts
To start off with a controversial opinion: I think New is the type of actor who is really, really good at playing a specific type of character. In his case, down-to-earth, if occasionally anxious and/or neurotic, nice guys. When he’s playing this type of character, he can bring the comedy as well as the drama and his character can show steel and fire when necessary.
I have no idea how he is in real life. He could be, I hope not, but he could be the biggest asshole diva around for all I know. But when he’s playing a nice guy, I focus on the character. Whenever he tries to play a jerkish character, I find myself thinking, ‘Well, he’s acting.’
It didn’t work for me in Club Sapan Fine when he was playing a rich, out-of-touch character, and the only times I thought he did good in I’m Tee, Me Too was when he had quieter scenes, not when his character was being mouthy and crass.
And also, aware I could be wrong, but: I’m convinced he doesn’t actually speak any English. I really hope the show drops him occasionally saying things in English. A few times, I was wondering why there were no English subtitles, because, I didn’t know what he was saying.
Then, I realised, oh, right he’s speaking English. The fact English usually isn’t translated when the subtitles are English does make a certain amount of sense, even though it might make it easier for English-speakers with hearing impairments to know what’s going on without having to find a way to get extra subtitles.
It wasn’t his accent I had a problem with; he just flat out was not saying the words to where I could understand them. I don’t know if First Kanaphan has gotten better about it or not, but I had the same problem with him in Wolf when he tried to speak English.
And finally, to get it out there, I do hope this is a BL, but whether it is or not, please, show, do not have Home end up with any female character. Kan and Pang are too good for him. Peach is too good for him, too, but if the right character development is given to Home, I can be okay with him and Peach being together with Pang (and maybe, Kan, too) being at the ready to frell him up if he ever does anything too stupid or hurtful to Peach.
I’m sort of already shipping Kan and Pang.
I don’t know if Best is going to be around for future episodes. For some reason I was surprised at how much he was in this one, but I’m definitely not complaining. For some reason, I just had the thought, ‘A wild Perth appears!’ when he first popped up.
If Best is sticking around, and assuming he turns out to be a good guy, I’d be fine with him ending up with Pang, Kan, or Peach. Or even Home, though, he might be too good for Home, too. I’d be fine with Peach ending up with Kan.
Just don’t put any female character with Home, show, I beg of you.
Onto the good:
Jan is a straight up chameleon actress.
Tay Tawan is a tall, good-looking man, and from what I’ve seen, he conducts himself confidently during interviews and the like. He can definitely play strong, confident characters, but one thing I admire about him is that he can also convincingly play characters who shy and/or sad and/or ill-adjusted.
Some performers are not afraid to play messy, pathetic, and/or tragic characters. They aren’t afraid to be goofy or annoying or just go all out bringing the type of character who, if they met an actual person like this, they’d be, ‘No,’ to life.
Could be wrong, but I don’t think he has any issues with putting it all into a character who isn’t the ideal leading man type despite being so good at playing an ideal leading man.
I know he’s played jerkish characters, but I don’t know if he’s ever played a straight-out villain. I’d really like to see him play one.
I love Peach and Pang’s relationship. She called him “hia” at one point! Aw.
Another moment I loved was, when the landlady was trying to break in, her declaring her handsome brother would soon have a billionaire fall in love with him.
Shipping googles aside what with the transition to a news report about Home immediately after this, instead of focusing on her brother eventually being able to get a good job, instead of her having any plans to get a rich person to fall in love with her (she totally could), instead of talking about how her influencer career will pay off someday (it might), she’s just like, my sweet, handsome brother is going to capture some rich person’s heart, and that rich person will take care of him and me, his sister.
Which, yeah. If Peach fell in love with someone, that someone had better be prepared for wherever they’re living to have an extra room for Pang, or Peach is gone.
I also loved when Home broke in, numerous times, Peach automatically got physically behind his younger and smaller sister.
One thing I’m curious about: Do Peach and Pang share a bed?
Pang wasn’t in the apartment when Home somehow came in and got into bed with Peach without making a sound or causing discernible movement, and I admit, I was expecting a ghost, not Home, in that scene.
I dunno. As someone who coos over almost every instance of bedsharing be it platonic or romantic, I’m not sure this wouldn’t be a rare time I don’t. I love the fact Randy and Earl share a bed in My Name is Earl, and I once read a story about someone being freaked out that an adult brother and sister, both fully clothed, shared a bed on vacation, and I didn’t understand why this weirded them out so much.
But yeah, two opposite-sex siblings sharing a bed full-time might be a little icky.
Switching to Home, I hope his uncle isn’t revealed to be a villain. I like his and Home’s relationship.
I’m here for his aunt and her loyal assistant or maid being thorns in his side. I did think New did well with some comedy in this episode, and one of my favourite moments was, when told to seize him, the aunt’s underling just wrapped around him in a hug.
I thought he was going to drop that delicate teacup, and good job on the subversion of just having him spit-spray tea, show.
Him jump-scaring the siblings multiple times was hilarious.
And random, I love that Best was saved as Best Boy in Peach’s contacts. Adorable and funny.
I think I’m going to like this series.
