SODAS SCHOOL YEARS YALL BUCKLE UP
he would LOVEEEEEEE pre k and kindergarten!!! idk if he would actually get to go to pre k since yknow. 60s. but he would be so excited like wdym he gets to go to school with all of his friends and they get to do crafts and get read stories! highlight of his school year.
thennnnnnnnn it all starts to go downhill. 1st grade. when they are all expected to really start reading and writing and they keep telling him to write with his right hand and his handwriting is too messy even with his left hand and all the letters just feel wrong and no one gets it. he would keep getting in trouble for just refusing to do his work and “acting out” and he would always be taking off his shoes cause they just feel too weird and he doesn’t get how everyone else can adjust so easily!!! although whenever he gets in trouble or has a meltdown he gets sent to darry’s classroom since he is in 5th grade (@damthosefandoms my absolute angel has an entire timeline for what grades all the greasers would be and it is my saving grace) and he loves that. just ough he is not doing well
2nd grade is even worse!! darry is in middle school so he doesn’t have him anymore and now they are doing even more reading and writing and math and he just doesn’t get it. he thinks it’s so unfair that his brother was able to do well and since he is darry’s brother they are so confused on why he isn’t doing as well as darry. he can’t focus on any of it and he just has so so much energy and so all the teachers label him as a trouble maker (read undiagnosed adhd) soda legir SOBS in the morning begging not to have to go. his teacher is mean and he doesn’t like his classmates and he feels so alone. mrs curtis’ heart breaks every time she has to get soda to the bus cause he just looks so sad
the rest of elementary goes about the same and suddenly he has homework and mr curtis tries to help him every evening but soda is just crying and can’t focus and just wants to go to bed and not worry about school anymore. he asks his parents if he can drop out but bro is legit like 10 he cannot drop out lmao. pony does so well in school too like darry and soda doesn’t get what he is doing wrong. why is he the dumb brother
middle school he just fully commits to being the class clown. if you can’t be smart then you gotta be funny in order to distract from the fact you flunk every single test and all of these new subjects are so stressful that you can’t even think half the time. he is counting down the days til school ends. he doesn’t cry before school anymore but he is so nauseous every morning and can’t even eat breakfast cause he knows it’ll just be another day of teachers look at him disappointedly and he has to act like he doesn’t care!!!! he doesn’t even do the work half the time anymore what’s the point. they force pass him.
high school is more of the same, he really starts giving up at that point. he can feel his parents worry and disappointment radiating off of them, and every time he sees darry and pony get honor roll he secretly breaks a bit more inside. why can’t he be like that. so he keeps making people laugh, starts skipping when class gets too hard, and plans to drop out. another drop out in a long line of greasers who did the same. he can’t face telling his parents the fact he is going to drop out so he keeps going. after their death he finally does it, it’s not like they are around to hold him after he fails another test or wipe his tears away after a hard day anymore. so he drops out
but he does Not tell darry. he keeps going and just sneaks back home after he goes to work. he can’t admit it to him yet but ofc he finds out. darry doesn’t even know what to say, but he has to let soda make his own choices. but he won’t let pony end up the same so he constantly makes sure pony does his homework
soda with adhd and dyslexia i love you so much you deserved SO much better

First Reading
Galatians 2:1-2, 7-14
They recognized the grace bestowed upon me.
Brothers and sisters: After fourteen years I again went up to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along also. I went up in accord with a revelation, and I presented to them the Gospel that I preach to the Gentiles– but privately to those of repute– so that I might not be running, or have run, in vain. On the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the Gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter to the circumcised, for the one who worked in Peter for an apostolate to the circumcised worked also in me for the Gentiles, and when they recognized the grace bestowed upon me, James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave me and Barnabas their right hands in partnership, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. Only, we were to be mindful of the poor, which is the very thing I was eager to do.    And when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he clearly was wrong. For, until some people came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to draw back and separated himself, because he was afraid of the circumcised. And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. But when I saw that they were not on the right road in line with the truth of the Gospel, I said to Cephas in front of all, “If you, though a Jew, are living like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

Gospel
Luke 11:1-4
Lord, teach us to pray.
Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name,    your kingdom come.    Give us each day our daily bread    and forgive us our sins    for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,    and do not subject us to the final test.”

First Reading
Deuteronomy 10:8-9
The Lord himself is our heritage.
Moses summoned all of Israel and said to them: “At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to be in attendance before the LORD and minister to him, and to give blessings in his name, as they have done to this day. For this reason, Levi has no share in the heritage with his brothers; the LORD himself is his heritage, as the LORD, your God, has told him.”

First reading 1 Kings 19:4-9a, 11-15a Go outside and stand on the mountain before the Lord.
Elijah went a day’s journey into the desert, until he came to a broom tree and sat beneath it. He prayed for death saying: “This is enough, O LORD! Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” He lay down and fell asleep under the broom tree, but then an angel touched him and ordered him to get up and eat. He looked and there at his head was a hearth cake and a jug of water. After he ate and drank, he lay down again, but the angel of the LORD came back a second time, touched him, and ordered, “Get up and eat, else the journey will be too long for you!” He got up, ate, and drank; then strengthened by that food, he walked forty days and forty nights to the mountain of God, Horeb.    There he came to a cave, where he took shelter. Then the LORD said to him, “Go outside and stand on the mountain before the LORD; the LORD will be passing by.” A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the LORD— but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake– but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was fire– but the LORD was not in the fire. After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound. When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave. A voice said to him, “Elijah, why are you here?” He replied, “I have been most zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts. But the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to the sword. I alone am left, and they seek to take my life.” The LORD said to him, “Go, take the road back to the desert near Damascus.”

First reading 1 Kings 19:16b, 19-21 Elisha left and followed Elijah.
The LORD said to Elijah: “You shall anoint Elisha, son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, as prophet to succeed you.”    Elijah set out and came upon Elisha, son of Shaphat, as he was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen; he was following the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak over him. Elisha left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please, let me kiss my father and mother goodbye, and I will follow you.” Elijah answered, “Go back! Have I done anything to you?” Elisha left him and, taking the yoke of oxen, slaughtered them; he used the plowing equipment for fuel to boil their flesh, and gave it to his people to eat. Then he left and followed Elijah as his attendant.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6
Blessed are they who hope in the Lord. or Blessed are they who delight in the law of the Lord. or The just will flourish like the palm tree in the garden of the Lord.
Blessed the man who follows not    the counsel of the wicked Nor walks in the way of sinners,    nor sits in the company of the insolent, But delights in the law of the LORD    and meditates on his law day and night.
Blessed are they who hope in the Lord. or Blessed are they who delight in the law of the Lord. or The just will flourish like the palm tree in the garden of the Lord.
He is like a tree    planted near running water, That yields its fruit in due season,    and whose leaves never fade.    Whatever he does, prospers.
Blessed are they who hope in the Lord. or Blessed are they who delight in the law of the Lord. or The just will flourish like the palm tree in the garden of the Lord.
Not so, the wicked, not so;    they are like chaff which the wind drives away. For the LORD watches over the way of the just,    but the way of the wicked vanishes.
Blessed are they who hope in the Lord. or Blessed are they who delight in the law of the Lord. or The just will flourish like the palm tree in the garden of the Lord.

You are my inheritance, O Lord.
I bless the LORD who counsels me;    even in the night my heart exhorts me. I set the LORD ever before me;    with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
You are my inheritance, O Lord.
You will show me the path to life,    fullness of joys in your presence,    the delights at your right hand forever.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 23:1-3, 4, 5, 6
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.    In verdant pastures he gives me repose; Beside restful waters he leads me;    he refreshes my soul. He guides me on right paths    for his name’s sake.
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Even though I walk in the dark valley    I fear no evil; for you are at my side With your rod and your staff    that give me courage.
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
You spread the table before me    in the sight of my foes; You anoint my head with oil;    my cup overflows.
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
Only goodness and kindness follow me    all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD    for years to come.
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

I will bless the Lord at all times. or Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Glorify the LORD with me,    let us together extol his name. I sought the LORD, and he answered me    and delivered me from all my fears.
I will bless the Lord at all times. or Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Look to him that you may be radiant with joy,    and your faces may not blush with shame. When the poor one called out, the LORD heard,    and from all his distress he saved him.
I will bless the Lord at all times. or Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
The angel of the LORD encamps    around those who fear him, and delivers them. Taste and see how good the LORD is;    blessed the man who takes refuge in him.
I will bless the Lord at all times. or Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Fear the LORD, you his holy ones,    for nought is lacking to those who fear him. The great grow poor and hungry;    but those who seek the LORD want for no good thing.

O bless the Lord, my soul!
He pardons all your iniquities,    he heals all your ills, He redeems your life from destruction,    he crowns you with kindness and compassion.
O bless the Lord, my soul!
Merciful and gracious is the LORD,    slow to anger and abounding in kindness. He will not always chide,    nor does he keep his wrath forever.
O bless the Lord, my soul!
As a father has compassion on his children,    so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him, For he knows how we are formed;    he remembers that we are dust.

Gospel Matthew 19:3-12 For the sake of the Kingdom of heaven.
Some Pharisees approached Jesus and tested him, saying, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause whatever?” He said in reply, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, man must not separate.” They said to him, “Then why did Moses command that the man give the woman a bill of divorce and dismiss her?” He said to them, “Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) and marries another commits adultery.” His disciples said to him, “If that is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” He answered, “Not all can accept this word, but only those to whom that is granted. Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it.”

Gospel Mark 10:17-30 Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor; then come, follow me.
As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before him, and asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; you shall not defraud; honor your father and your mother.” He replied and said to him, “Teacher, all of these I have observed from my youth.” Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” At that statement his face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.    Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the Kingdom of God!” The disciples were amazed at his words. So Jesus again said to them in reply, “Children, how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God.” They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “For men it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God.” Peter began to say to him, “We have given up everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.”

Gospel Luke 9:57-62 I will follow you wherever you go.
As Jesus and his disciples were proceeding on their journey, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” And to another he said, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.” But he answered him, “Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the Kingdom of God.” And another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the Kingdom of God.”

Gospel Luke 12:32-34 Your Father is pleased to give you the Kingdom.
Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not be afraid any longer, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the Kingdom. Sell your belongings and give alms. Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven that no thief can reach nor moth destroy. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.”
OR: --------
Gospel Luke 14:25-33 Everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.
Great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and he turned and addressed them, “If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion? Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding himself unable to finish the work the onlookers should laugh at him and say, ‘This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.’ Or what king marching into battle would not first sit down and decide whether with ten thousand troops he can successfully oppose another king advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops? But if not, while he is still far away, he will send a delegation to ask for peace terms. In the same way, everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.”

Exodus 32:7-14
Then he spoke of exterminating them, but Moses, his chosen one, withstood him in the breach to turn back his destructive wrath. (Psalm 106:23).
The LORD said to Moses, “Go down at once to your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt, for they have become depraved. They have soon turned aside from the way I pointed out to them, making for themselves a molten calf and worshiping it, sacrificing to it and crying out, ‘This is your God, O Israel, who brought you out of the land of Egypt!’ I see how stiff-necked this people is,” continued the LORD to Moses. “Let me alone, then, that my wrath may blaze up against them to consume them. Then I will make of you a great nation.”
But Moses implored the LORD, his God, saying, “Why, O LORD, should your wrath blaze up against your own people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with such great power and with so strong a hand? Why should the Egyptians say, ‘With evil intent he brought them out, that he might kill them in the mountains and exterminate them from the face of the earth’? Let your blazing wrath die down; relent in punishing your people. Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and how you swore to them by your own self, saying, ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky; and all this land that I promised, I will give your descendants as their perpetual heritage.’” So the LORD relented in the punishment he had threatened to inflict on his people.

The LORD said to Samuel: “Fill your horn with oil, and be on your way. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen my king from among his sons.”    As Jesse and his sons came to the sacrifice, Samuel looked at Eliab and thought, “Surely the LORD’s anointed is here before him.” But the LORD said to Samuel: “Do not judge from his appearance or from his lofty stature, because I have rejected him. Not as man sees does God see, because he sees the appearance but the LORD looks into the heart.” Then Jesse called Abinadab and presented him before Samuel, who said, “The LORD has not chosen him.” Next Jesse presented Shammah, but Samuel said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.” In the same way Jesse presented seven sons before Samuel, but Samuel said to Jesse, “The LORD has not chosen any one of these.” Then Samuel asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” Jesse replied, “There is still the youngest, who is tending the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “Send for him; we will not begin the sacrificial banquet until he arrives here.” Jesse sent and had the young man brought to them. He was ruddy, a youth handsome to behold and making a splendid appearance. The LORD said, “There–anoint him, for this is he!” Then Samuel, with the horn of oil in hand, anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and from that day on, the spirit of the LORD rushed upon David.

First reading Isaiah 6:1-8 Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?
In the year King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, with the train of his garment filling the temple. Seraphim were stationed above; each of them had six wings: with two they veiled their faces, with two they veiled their feet, and with two they hovered aloft.    “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts!” they cried, one to the other. “All the earth is filled with his glory!” At the sound of that cry, the frame of the door shook and the house was filled with smoke.    Then I said, “Woe is me, I am doomed! For I am a man of unclean lips, living among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, holding an ember which he had taken with tongs from the altar.    He touched my mouth with it and said, “See, now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed, your sin purged.”    Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” “Here I am,” I said; “send me!”

The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,    because the LORD has anointed me; He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly,    to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives    and release to the prisoners, To announce a year of favor from the LORD    and a day of vindication by our God,    to comfort all who mourn; To place on those who mourn in Zion    a diadem instead of ashes, To give them oil of gladness in place of mourning,    a glorious mantle instead of a listless spirit.
OR: --------
First reading Jeremiah 1:4-9 To whomever I send you, you shall go.
The word of the LORD came to me thus:
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,    before you were born I dedicated you,    a prophet to the nations I appointed you.
“Ah, Lord GOD!” I said,    “I know not how to speak; I am too young.”
But the LORD answered me,
Say not, “I am too young.” To whomever I send you, you shall go;    whatever I command you, you shall speak. Have no fear before them,    because I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.
Then the LORD extended his hand and touched my mouth, saying,
See, I place my words in your mouth!
OR: --------
First reading Ezekiel 3:17-21 I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel.
The word of the LORD came to me: Son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel. When you hear a word from my mouth, you shall warn them for me.    If I say to the wicked man, You shall surely die; and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his wicked conduct so that he may live: the wicked man shall die for his sin, but I will hold you responsible for his death. If, on the other hand, you have warned the wicked man, yet he has not turned away from his evil nor from his wicked conduct, then he shall die for his sin, but you shall save your life.    If a virtuous man turns away from virtue and does wrong when I place a stumbling block before him, he shall die. He shall die for his sin, and his virtuous deeds shall not be remembered; but I will hold you responsible for his death if you did not warn him. When, on the other hand, you have warned a virtuous man not to sin, and he has in fact not sinned, he shall surely live because of the warning, and you shall save your own life.
OR: --------
First reading Ezekiel 34:11-16 As a shepherd tends his flock, so will I tend my sheep.
Thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will look after and tend my sheep. As a shepherd tends his flock when he finds himself among his scattered sheep, so will I tend my sheep. I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered when it was cloudy and dark. I will lead them out from among the peoples and gather them from the foreign lands; I will bring them back to their own country and pasture them upon the mountains of Israel in the land’s ravines and all its inhabited places. In good pastures will I pasture them, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing ground. There they shall lie down on good grazing ground, and in rich pastures shall they be pastured on the mountains of Israel. I myself will pasture my sheep; I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD. The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy, shepherding them rightly.

Gospel Matthew 9:35-38 The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.
Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, and curing every disease and illness. At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”
OR: --------
Gospel Matthew 16:13-19 You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.
Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
OR: --------
Gospel Matthew 23:8-12 The greatest among you must be your servant.
Jesus spoke to his disciples: “Do not be called ‘Rabbi.’ You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. Do not be called ‘Master’; you have but one master, the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
OR: --------
Gospel Matthew 28:16-20 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.
The Eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
OR: --------
Gospel Mark 1:14-20 I will make you fishers of men.
After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”    As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.
OR: --------
Gospel Mark 16:15-20 Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.
Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”    So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.
OR: --------
Gospel Luke 5:1-11 At your command I will lower the nets.
While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret. He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets. Getting into one of them, the one belonging to Simon, he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.” When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them. They came and filled both boats so that the boats were in danger of sinking. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him and all those with him, and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners of Simon. Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him.
OR: --------
Gospel Luke 10:1-9 The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.
The Lord Jesus appointed seventy-two disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this household.’ If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves his payment. Do not move about from one house to another. Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it and say to them, ‘The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.’”
OR: --------
Gospel Luke 22:24-30 I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father has conferred one on me.
An argument broke out among the Apostles about which of them should be regarded as the greatest. Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them and those in authority over them are addressed as ‘Benefactors’; but among you it shall not be so. Rather, let the greatest among you be as the youngest, and the leader as the servant. For who is greater: the one seated at table or the one who serves? Is it not the one seated at table? I am among you as the one who serves. It is you who have stood by me in my trials; and I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father has conferred one on me, that you may eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom; and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
OR: --------
Gospel John 10:11-16 A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Jesus said: “I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them. This is because he works for pay and has no concern for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd.”
OR: --------
Gospel John 15:9-17 I no longer call you slaves; I have called you friends.
Jesus said to his disciples: “As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.    “I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete. This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another.”
OR: --------
Gospel John 21:15-17 Feed my lambs, feed my sheep.
After Jesus had revealed himself to his disciples and eaten breakfast with them, he said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He then said to Simon Peter a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.”

LIANA DRAYTON-CRAWFORD
Full Name: Liana Selene Drayton-Crawford
Nickname(s): Lia, Duchess
Birthday: July 5th, 1978 (42)
Hometown: Chanute, Kansas
Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Biochemistry from Northeastern University
Occupation: Waitress at Red’s Diner
Faceclaim: Amy Adams
Content Warning(s):
Divorce, Emotional Manipulation/Abuse (Implied), Cheating,
BACKGROUND:
Liana was born & raised in Chanute, Kansas to young parents (18, 19) who had no concept of the amount of work it took to raise a child
She was raised on hard work, thrift shops, and Sunday mass by her maternal grandparents as her parents never stepped up to the plate to try their hand in raising their daughter
Already absent in much of her life, the couple broke up in their mid-20′s and her father moved to Washington state and was not heard from after that point
Her mother never ended up going to college and ended up marrying a lineman and moved away against the wishes of her parents, officially leaving Liana behind with her grandparents
Though her parental situation was different her life with her grandparents was great
They may have been some of the poorest people in the already poor, little midwestern town.. but they were all rich in love which was what mattered the most
The moment that Liana could get a job she did and her first job was working in a local flower shop and then moved to picking up shifts at the diner
All of the money she made went to help her grandparents with bills even though they would protest and downright refuse her offer to help. Liana would often secretly go and pay off some small bills anyway behind their backs to help
Anything extra of Liana’s that could be spared was saved so she could purchase a car. Her first vehicle was a 1985 Ford Escort (9 years old by the time of purchase). Issues with the vehicle were worked on by her grandfather (and sometimes Liana herself) as he used to be a mechanic in the town
Even with juggling working and school Liana managed to post outstanding scores and was named the valedictorian of her class (even though it was a small class it still felt like a great accomplishment with the way her parents had both barely graduated from high school)
She was accepted and granted a scholarship to attend Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts for chemistry
While in Boston, Liana met Alexander “Lex” Crawford who was attending Harvard University in the neighboring Cambridge, Massachusetts for law
The two began dating officially roughly 6 months after meeting
During Liana’s 4th year at Northeastern and Lex’s final year in law school, Liana found out that she was pregnant with Lex’s child (~2 months before graduation)
After graduation Lex proposed to Liana and the two had a fast-tracked wedding late that summer
The two would end up having 3 children in total and remain happily married for over 10 years before issues arose
MARRIAGE & DIVORCE: TW Divorce, Emotional Manipulation/Abuse, Cheating
They welcomed their first child in 2000, a boy, named Theodore “Theo” Crawford
Even though Liana had her degree her dreams of pursuing a career were cut short and she instead became a stay-at-home mother to care for Theo full time (as per the request of her husband and his family)
Five years after the birth of Theo, Liana and Lex had another child in 2005 - this time a girl named Ava Crawford
For the first few years of marriage Lex was fairly sincere and loyal to Liana but was often swept up in the scandals of his own family’s bad behavior
This bad behavior was often praised by other members of his family and he grew to resent Liana for keeping him from enjoying his youth
Liana spent much of her time with the children and trying to be the perfect housewife
In a matter of years she had gone from the only thing in her name being a 1985 Ford Escort to having access to a house in the Hamptons, cars, lake homes, and expensive time shares overseas
She cooked, cleaned, decorated the house for each and every occasion and was always the parent who attended parent-teacher conferences and was also part of the PTA/PTO
Lex started to go behind Liana’s back with other women (most of whom were college interns or assistants for the law firm)
Everyone knew about it but no one would say anything since Liana never brought it up as she preferred to pretend that it wasn’t always the hot gossip amongst the circles she was in
Lex would reel Liana back in by preying on her love for her children, informing her that if they were to divorce he would take the children and she would be left with nothing
He would also often switch between threats against Liana and grand romantic gestures (empty, of course) to keep her attached to him just enough to not leave
She preferred to wear the rose colored glasses as long as she could though eventually they would break
The worst came when Liana would have their third child together, another boy, in 2015 (Benjamin “Bear” Crawford)
From there things escalated quickly between Liana and Lex and they divorced in 2018
Lex would gain full custody of the children at this time by accusations against Liana that she was alienating the children from him
The Crawford reach extended into many of the rich and elite in New England so there was no concern from Lex about keeping custody no matter what Liana did, in fact the custody battle was an attempt to lure her into doing something uncharacteristic then using that against her to ensure that the children would stay with him (though he did it for revenge against her, not because he cared for the children)
Additionally, the Crawford family did not care for Liana that much overall, believing that she was still “some girl from a cornfield in Kansas” and they often called her Dorothy
Liana would battle with Lex in court over custody until the money ran short, additionally she would see how much of a toll the fighting took on the children and knowing she would never be able to beat her then-husband in court she stopped fighting
Lex also took out a restraining order against Liana after their legal proceedings were finished
Even though the children had spent 90% of their lives with their mother, their father’s words (and Black Amex) proved to be much more alluring than staying with the person who had seen them through everything in their lives
By the time the legal battles had settled down, Theo was of-age and went to college. Liana tries to keep in contact with him but he has not been that responsive (reasons not known, suspected influence from his father paying for his schooling)
Lex offered Liana a large share of money during the divorce as well as vehicles and vacation homes all of which she rejected, only taking what was in her name only
PERSONALITY:
Liana is very dedicated and loyal to her friends and family (even if sometimes they don’t deserve it)
Strong work ethic! She never lost this even while being married to someone who would’ve rather just paid for everything to be done rather than do it himself
Very maternal, she tries not to mother everyone but kind of accidentally does it sometimes (she’s working hard on reeling it in)
She’s very sweet, likes to help others when possible
Tries to see people for the best instead of the worst (hence staying with her husband for so long) even if it comes back to bite her in the ass
Can be almost a little too kind, this usually lead to her being used like a door mat but her divorce gave her some strength to push back once things got to be too much
Walking Pinterest board, she’s creative and enjoys her little projects. Often subjecting friends to testing them out with her (whether it’s building something or baking a recipe that looks good)
FAST FACTS:
Liana moved to Tupelo as an attempt to go somewhere where no one would know her
She could not go home as her family there is no longer around and no one could ever track down her father after he moved to Washington
She has deep regrets and embarrassment over not being able to get custody of her children and does not speak of them (as she does not want to explain anything)
Her home is bare of any photographs that would hint that she has children
She will speak of her ex-husband, but only briefly and not mention what he did but instead say that they split due to differing opinions on where they wanted their lives to lead
She still enjoys cooking and decorating as they are some of the few things she finds comforting, she also finds having live flowers in her home
Liana has two pets - a Great Dane named Salem and a brown tabby cat named “Billy the Kitten” based off the character of the same name from the popular mobile app Neko Atsume (both pets were handed over to Liana during the divorce)
Liana now lives in small home with a decent yard, using the remaining money she had to purchase it mostly for the yard for Salem (the inside of the home is lined with carpet runners for the dog and there is not an abundance of furniture that is not necessary as to accommodate Salem’s size)
Liana can be seen walking Salem often or having Salem outside with her while she gardens, Salem can wander freely around the property when Liana is outside - otherwise he is limited to the fence (which he can stick his head over)
She has a Mercedes (which she hates) and can never get it worked on without taking it to a larger city
She kept the Crawford part of her last name as (for whatever reason) it makes her feel closer to her children in some small way
BEST FRIEND FROM COLLEGE TM:  (Taken WC by Ethan Morris, Jake Gyllenhaal FC)
These two met while attending Northeastern and quickly became close friends
Just because they were close didn’t necessarily mean that he always supported or even liked the fact that Liana was dating Lex Crawford
He & Lex shared a mutual distain for one another
Even with this, the two would eventually attend each other’s weddings
Right before he got married he asked Liana to leave Lex and to essentially have a modern-day runaway sequence with him (no points for timing)
Unfortunately, she could not bring herself to divorce her husband at the time
After he got married they began to drift apart
CONNECTIONS:
Friends!
People she mothers on accident
Other dog people (and cat)
Those who benefit/are subjected to taste testing random recipes she finds
Regulars at Red’s
Her kid?? This could be a WC at some point I guess (We out here being flexible on most of that)
She’s not really looking for anything romantic at all - but y’know sometimes it hits you when you least expect
Maybe someone who actually did know her from the east coast (whoops)
Everything!!

Top 20 Startups of 2020
Tumblr media
2020 has been nothing short of a challenge, yet some businesses have found stable footing in the value that they provide to customers..
Aleksey (Aleks) Weyman
List created and published on millennialmoderator.com
As American-British investor John Templeton once famously stated- the best opportunities come in times of maximum pessimism. Calming idea but difficult to embrace when the pessimism is at your front door. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic that has ravaged our world, halted entire industries and resulted in millions of deaths (literally and economically), much of the business world has become skeptical and; in reaction, withdrawn certain risk behaviors like innovating and investing.
However, despite the trend, there exist companies that have taken grasp of this uncertain time, buckled down on their operation and found a way to endure, if not grow even more. It’s these companies (both startups and established) that I want to highlight today. If they can do this well today, imagine what they’ll be doing tomorrow. Here’s our top 20 startups of 2020!
1. Phonic
First up on our top companies of 2020 is next-level survey software Phonic. With their revolutionary voice and video survey features (among others), they are radically redesigning the way that online surveys are conducted. They’ve had PR on Techcrunch and are already integrated with top educational institutions around the United States like Stanford and Cornell. You can learn more about Phonic as well as how to level up your own survey strategy, in this article.
2. The Closing Docs
Identifying a problem and providing a solution is the core of every great company’s value proposition, which is exactly what The Closing Docs is doing for landlords and property owners. With their software, landlords can easily verify tenant income without having to spend a copious amount of time managing multiple reports. Their platform is very user friendly and trustworthy- a key factor when handling finances. It’s a tenant application software that I personally will be using when I rent out my condo next year!
3. Iowa Solar
No list of forward-thinking companies would be complete without alternative energy sources, which is exactly where Iowa Solar shines bright. Servicing the Iowa/Illinois area, they have designed an extremely cost-effective solar panel solution for homeowners and businesses. They also provide installation and maintenance, truly bringing the cost-to-value ratio of solar energy down to consumer level. Not to mention, there are tax benefits associated with solar energy that both homeowners and businesses should take advantage of.
4. CornerNook
Work from home is seemingly the new norm around the world, with many organizations allowing for full time WFH accommodations for the foreseeable future, even after the global pandemic. CornerNook saw the value in this change of work-life, and began offering equipment and furniture that every home office needs to be functional and comfortable. From ergonomic chairs to electrical components, you can bet that they have all the home office equipment you need.
5. Cover Video
Our 5th startup to highlight has a unique backstory- founder and developer Nicholas Treybig had spent copious amounts of time applying for various jobs at companies like Amazon and Google, going so far as to create custom cover letter-videos to enhance his applications. He realized the struggle with creating multiple videos and thus, created a simple solution for applicants and employers alike. Covervideo.com is a key-protected cover video sharing web service that helps companies interview and hire candidates more readily and safely than ever before.
6. See Inside Media
2020 has been an eye opener to many industries of the possibilities that come with virtual reality and 3D user experiences, and founder David Schanen has been well aware of these possibilities since 2018, when he formed See Inside Media. This company provides virtual, 3D tour technology and has an existing market foothold in the real estate and music industries, with virtually every market an option in the foreseeable future. They are currently exploring volumetric video productions, which will allow for virtual reality live-stream experiences. A business to surely keep an eye on!
7. All About PDF
If there was one business that cares about your digital documents more than anyone else, it’s All About PDF. Founder Steven Amani has designed a suite of features that allow anyone to become a master of the portable document format. From PDF expiration dates, online file conversion options (in browser as well as downloadable software), PDF merging, not to mention a relatively new feature- DRM (digital rights management) to protect the monetary value of your documents, Amani and team are looking out for your digital documents in ways most don’t even think about.
8. BrandLume
It’s no surprise that there is an abundance of digital marketing solutions available on the web, so how can someone possibly explore them all? BrandLume has the answer- They provide expert-level services for every area of your business. Think of them as a one-stop-shop for all your digital marketing, branding and website services. They have been helping build businesses from the ground up since 2011! BrandLume offers wholesale prices and no-contract-needed consultations (among other features) for all digital marketing needs under the sun.
9. Emi
Being stuck at home for days on end has been a testing ground for relationships around the world, which is exactly where the Emi App has stepped up to the plate. They offer a simple yet valuable set of relationship exercises that are designed to rekindle and strengthen relationships with your significant other. The best part- it’s intuitive and easy to set up, with the premise being that you won’t have to take time out of your busy day to focus on relationship tips- Emi will do all the reminding for you!
10. Pry
Budgeting can be a sensitive subject for bootstrapped startups (or any company for that matter) but that doesn’t mean there isn’t value in planning ahead. Pry Financials makes it simple for companies to manage their budget, hiring plan, financial models, and cash runway. Their cloud-based platform allows for live, team collaboration and encourages a positive mindset with its clean and intuitive finance planning dashboards.
11. Finally
Unlike business finance, personal finance is a much more intimate topic to digest, with the majority of decisions based on personal goals and current economic conditions. Finally is (finally) providing a solution for the individual, by creating educational material about which financial options are available, and then automating financial portfolios based on the individuals goals’ and desires. Not to mention, they offer financial advising for a fraction of the cost.
12. NITL
So much of our news media today is fluffy and misleading, which fuels and perpetuates the concept of fake news around the world. NITL (News In Three Lines) is solving this problem by objectively scraping the facts out of current news articles and presenting them to readers in just three lines. From there, the viewer can decide whether they want to read the full article or not- an important decision that is often swayed by how clickbaity the title is, but no more!
13. Intervue
In our exceedingly technological world, software developers are becoming the builders of tomorrow, but it can be difficult to properly assess the skill that a developer has, especially in remote working conditions. Intervue has arisen to this challenge by offering an immersive, live coding environment for employers and applicants to assess technical capabilities in real time, with video chat, multiple compilers, loggable interview notes, and more. Hiring quality developers is now much easier!
14. Palabra.io
Email automations are the bread and butter of a hands-free digital business or service. The Palabra.io team has created a platform that allows for complete landing page optimization, allowing users to define how customer contacts are collected, when to engage with them (down to the minute) and write copy in advance. All that’s left is to connect Palabra to your site and your email automation workflow is live!
15. Flip Booklets
Digital presentation is vital in todays world- portfolios, landing pages, all seeking to educate the user in the most innovative way possible. Flip Booklets allows users to upload any PDF document and turn it into an interactive, digital flip book (like the ones you’d find in stores). These books are a great digital marketing tool for 2021 and beyond!
16. Wiza
Linkedin poses a lot of opportunities for customer leads, but it can be tricky to navigate their UI and pull meaningful (email) contact infos. The Linkedin Sales Navigator tool can help with this, but even it has limitations; specifically, the amount of time it takes to scrape contacts. Wiza is a tool that allows you to quickly export Linkedin contacts and even vets the users for quality. Getting leads on Linkedin doesn’t have to be a painful process!
17. Twisted Road
Despite the stay-at-home protocols enforced by many governments in 2020, travel enthusiasts are still finding time to get out of their homes and hit the roads. Twisted Road is essentially Uber for motorcycles specifically, and it allows users to list their bikes or rent from others. Vehicle renting apps are a hot commodity, plus we won’t be in lockdown forever!
18. Earned Value App
Tracking a projects budget involves more than just a projection and some receipts, especially if the project has many moving pieces (as most organizations do). The Earned Value App leans on the earned value mathmatic formula, which helps identify potential financial issues that could lead to overspending, before you get there. Budget tracking apps are critical to monitoring a projects financial success.
19. Video Jaguar
Like mentioned before, video content will likely see an upswing in 2021, so businesses need to get ahead of the curve and adapt. Video Jaguar is a video template tool that has simplified video creation to the point where all users need to do is choose a format, upload text, and the platform will do the rest. Video content marketing in 2021 could be the difference between a positive and negative impacting campaign!
20. Lionshare Digital
Digital marketing is a diverse beast, with various potential avenues to explore. However as most business owners know, time is never on their side. Lionshare Digital is a full stack digital marketing agency that creates everything from websites to brand bibles, and has a long track record of serving professionals in the creative (among others) field. Building an effective website could be the start of something great!
21. EXTRA: GMASS
Last on our list is the GMASS service, a plugin for Google that helps automate email workflows right from within Gmail. This plugin is versatile and constantly updated with new features. In fact, it’s one of the several tools that our team at Millennial Moderator relies on! Check out our Tools page for more information.
Conclusion
As we wrap up a rather tumultuous year, we reflect on the companies that have given us value in times of uncertainty. This list is surely not collectively exhaustive, but it does highlight some startups that we believe will be paving the way for businesses in 2021. Have a great rest of 2020 and we’ll see you in the new year!

hey so like i feel absolutely silly doing this but it has been really rough and i’m not sure i can really Handle my mom anymore
this is mostly planning in advance but, i’m in a mentally abusive household and i really need out of it. however, i am a minor so i’m unable to for at least another year. i would really appreciate having the money to move out as soon as i can, which is why i’m making this post.
my paypal is here, and you can buy me a coffee here. i do commissions, too if you would prefer that.
more details about what’s going on are under the cut. it’s... really long but has like. everything i can remember, so.
so... this has been going on as long as i can remember (~10 years old or so). it used to be both of my parents, but my dad passed away and now it’s just my mom.
the earliest thing that i can remember is from the later years in elementary school (3-5th grade? around 8-10 years old?). my dad was terrifying when he was angry and was very loud, and my mom had a tendency of getting me in trouble, and then telling him how awful i was and she would have him yell at me for something he knew very little about (she would make him just jump into the conversation.) this was one of those times, and i was curled up on the floor with him yelling at me, and her standing over me. i remember afterward, i wrote something along the lines of “my happiness is ruined” or “i’ll never be happy” or something of the sort about.. not being happy, then i tore it to shreds.
around middle school (11-14 years) was where everything sort of picked up? my mom began to pick on me with constantly telling me i was breaking out, i looked bad, smelled bad, and so on and so forth. i asked her to stop numerous times and she refused to, laughing in my face whenever i asked. it started to make me feel bad about myself, and is the root of why i’m self conscious.
one day (7th grade) when she was telling at me for something i can’r remember, i told her “i hate myself because of you” and she replied “if you hate yourself because of me, you need to get a life.” thus, marking when i stopped telling her anything.
there was one time at a restaurant, where my mom wanted me to try and do the math for the bill. despite me refusing due to my math learning problems (possibly dyscalculia, but she refuses to get me tested), she continued to try and press it on me. when i continued to say no and got stressed and upset that she was trying to force me to do something i didn’t understand, she reacted badly. she told me that we were joking and laughing (we weren’t, she was very serious) and then told me that i had a “personal problem.”
my mom and i were at my grandma’s over the summer and she told me that she always jokes with me after arguments (meaning: she yelled at me a lot and made me have a panic attack) so i “get over it quicker” / “forget about it”
at one point laptop broke, and my mom called the people to send it in and get it fixed despite already taking her medicine (which wouldn’t have kicked in for another 30 minutes). I was grateful and thanked her, though i was still panicky and crying due to being so dependent on my laptop. i was yelled at for being in that state, and it was another instance when my dad yelled at me as i was curled up on the floor. he yelled at me for not being grateful when my mom called even though she took her medicine, and for some other stuff i can’t remember right. (i do remember pulling my hair hard and calling myself a horrible ungrateful daughter.)
one time when my dad and her were fighting (they were on a brink of a divorce before he passed away) she said that if i wasn’t around, that she would kill herself. she said that.. when i was right there in the other room with the door wide open.
(my dad was always neglectful of me, and never? really gave me the time of day to the point where i didn’t entrust that he could take care of me, and if he payed attention to me, he would just yell at me.)
in 8th grade, my dad passed away by drowning (i feel uncomfortable giving more details about that, if you need them you can PM me, but otherwise i won’t disclose the rest. i have a post about it in my archives somewhere as it was happening.) i grieved “weirdly” i suppose, i didn’t wish to hear the word “dad” or look at the river, let alone be around it. i didn’t want to talk about it with my mom, though i talked about it with my friends.
i continued to not to want to look at the river, and would refuse to, for a couple months. my mom didn’t like this at all and told me to “get over it” several times. and even though i asked her not to talk about him several times, she did anyway, constantly and always.
around freshman year things sort of.. escalated. the rest of this will be taking place from freshman year to current (14-16/almost 17). these might be out of chronological order, but ill try to keep them in order as much as possible. i started writing stuff down around here so im going to start off with the dated ones:
Saturday, January 9 2016: admitted to wanting to slap me Wednesday, January 20 2016: admitted to wanting to slap me Monday, February 22 2016: Oak Court mall in a dressing room: grabbed me by my shirt Wednesday, March 30 (6:00am): “You know one day in the morning you’re going to cop a little attitude and i’m just going to smack you.” (a minute afterward coming and saying she loved me) Monday, August 8th (5:36am) “if you give me a sarcastic attitude this early in the morning, I’ll end up smacking you in the face.” Wednesday, August 31st (9:41am) she was throwing an eraser at me, and when I was showing discomfort, she said “be glad I’m not throwing something bigger at you” and pretended to hit me with my tub of icing
August 9th, 2016: i suggested we leave so we can go feed the cats [that i was catsitting]. she didnt get that, and got mad at me for “never listening to her” because she wanted to feed the cats afterwards. she said i always get what i want, and she wants to get what she wanted. started talking about how i “lived a charm life” and i always “get what i want” and asked me what i “didnt have” and “nothing? yeah”
told her i was upset because i felt like she was so mad at something that wasn’t that big of a deal. the conversation below happened (her voice was slightly raised)
my mom: you always say i get upset with you for nothing me: when was the last time i did that? my mom: the last time we fought me: and when was that?? my mom: my mom: it doesnt matter
she started talking about how it was a problem i think i “always get what i want” and if i didnt think it was a problem that i had a “serious problem” with her. i started to be unresponsive, just looking ahead and replying with “okay” and not being on my phone. she started to try to talk to me, and turned on the radio station i like to listen to. she started to tell me she loved me. she apologized afterwards, and its the only time i can ever remember her apologizing for anything.
there was a time we got into an argument, she said that we “dont have [my] dad to be peacemaker,” completely ignoring that it was NEVER his role to be peacemaker, and that she only ever made him yell at me more.
she talked a LOT about my dad and how awful he was, and about their marriage problems. she told me at one point that her bipolar is so bad because my dad never had sex with her enough.
she attempted to have .... something with one of my really close friend’s dad at one point in time, in the past couple years or so. i walked in on them making out sometime. she wanted to date him-- and lied about it-- and he didn’t because he was a bit weirded out because my dad had still somewhat recently passed away. she cried for a whole 24 HOURS, ignoring sleeping time, about him and about how much she missed my dad, but never let me grieve in my own way.
we were at perkins when the subject of dating was brought up and i told her i was uncomfortable with it (it hadnt even been a year, or had just been a year or something) and she told me, again, to “get over it”
and, then, she got her boytoy (who we’ll call larry) and successfully got (and still has) a friend with benefits. she lied to me a long time, and told me that they weren't together or anything despite them fucking while i was home, and NOT being silent about it, either. i eventually told her i knew and that it made me uncomfortable that they had sex while i was at home. she told me to get over it at first, that i always got everything i asked for, so on and so forth.
after a while, and me continuously asking her not to have sex while i was home because i already walked in on her once, she told me that it was her house and that her friends couldn’t “believe the audacity [i] had asking her not to fuck while im home” and she.. hasn’t stopped. ive actually found her bondage gear recently.
(sidenote on larry: hes... really disgusting. he watched one of my friends take a shower while she was over, and when i told my mom that she said “well not everyone is perfect.”)
and then... the night that prompted me to start this post, which happened october 8th. she left me home alone for ~30hours (and i only saw her for 2 of those), which... i had already told her numerous times that i dont like to be home alone at night because it causes my delusions to act up and makes me very paranoid. on the third night she was gone, i texted her a handful of times asking how she was because i hadn’t seen her, and i missed her (a novel concept) and.. that was apparently the wrong thing to do.
she came home at 2am that night and started to ask me why i could never be home alone and making it way deeper than it actually needed to be. she called me a coward for my delusions, selfish, and told me that she didn’t think i was going to be a functioning human being. she told me that im faking my mental illnesses because i want an excuse to be scared (which ill get into later*) and refused to acknowledge the research i had done on these mental illnesses. at one point she was guilt tripping me, and i gave in and admitted it was my fault... and then she..? guilt tripped me? for that. she said that i was just “saying that to make [her] feel bad.” she told me that i was making up my mental illness symptoms by telling me that they’re.... “in [my] head” and that i cant be mentally ill because ive stood up for myself twice. (the only reason that i’ve stood up for myself is because the things that were happening were very hazardous to my health and i was close to killing myself)
i had been sleeping in her room because my air conditioning upstairs wasnt working and it was too hot to exist up there at all, and so i packed the items i brought down with me, and was moving to go upstairs. she forced me to stay downstairs because i was “running away from the conversation” (which ill also get into later**) and forced me to stay the night downstairs. after the conversation was said and done, she returned and told me “do you ever think your delusions and hallucinations are overactive imagination because of your ocd and you think of the worse possible scenario when you hear a noise?” which is...not how anything works.
the following morning, she was EXTREMELY petty and wouldnt let me leave her side since “i missed her so much!!” and continued to force me to spend time with her and refused to let me on my laptop or phone. she started to yell at me again (which i cant really remember what she said, but she called me selfish for.. wanting her around?)
BONUS CONTENT :) aka stuff that i wasnt able to put in to keep it chronological
my mom has always threatened to ground me because of crying (though she said she would “never ground me because it would ground [her] too”) and im basically... not allowed to feel anything but happy, because if i express any other emotion it always results in her yelling at me for some reason.
*she gladly admits that i inherited OCD from my dad (who had an extreme case, as well as almost my dad’s whole entire family) but refuses to admit that i also inherited psychosis from her. ive brought up that im pretty sure i have DPDR, but she also refuses to even learn what it is and tells me that im just faking it. she won’t get me help, and says she won’t.
**my mom walks away whenever she doesnt get her way in an argument. she has left me in the middle of a museum in another state (not without shouting “fuck you” at me from across the room first), in the middle of a parking lot for at least 5 minutes, walked out of my grandma’s house twice, and then walked away from me another time downtown (thankfully i was with a friend.)
she shits on literally anything i enjoy. we go to the movies, i show her shows, i talk about things i like and she always has to find something she hated about it. even when she cant find anything specific, she replies with “eh it was okay” and doesn't fake it to ever let her child enjoy something. i always feel bad immediately after. the most recent example i can think with this is seeing moana with her.
if anything Major Happens(tm) ill probably reblog this and add it on, but until then.................. yeah

( TRANS ) 2017.09 issue  — interview with elle korea

Your eyes linger on him even though he doesn't say a word. It's not easy to erase him from your memory [mind]. [Just] One look at him and you'll want to keep looking at him for a long time. Woo Dohwan's face, which has been closed in on by the eyes of the world.
elle korea: What did you do during the first broadcast of the drama <Save Me> last week? wdh: I was watching at home with my parents.
How was it? wdh: I had already watched episodes 1 and 2 beforehand during the vip screening. The scenes that I appeared in are a given, but I paid particular attention to the acting of the sunbaenims. [Because] I was extremely curious as to how they would act them [particular scenes] out when I read the script. As I watched, I couldn't help but think that they are amazing. I still remember [and will continue to] the delighted faces of my parents on August 5th, the first day of the first broadcast.
You're speaking very calmly [coolly] considering it's the first production in which you play a lead role. wdh: It's the first production where I'm standing in the front line, and it's a production I'll never forget, but on the other hand it's also a production that is testing me. Both my company and I had questions over whether the viewers would be accepting of the actor Woo Dohwan who appears on screen every episode with a significant amount of screen time trying to lead the drama. That's why I didn’t think of else but that I had to do well.
Have you seen the various reactions [about himself] like 'strong presence', 'right person for the role', and 'snatcher of women's hearts' after the broadcast? wdh: My acquaintances sent my screen captures of news articles. I never expected that kind of reaction. [Rather than that] I had hoped viewers would [just] enjoy watching <Save Me>.
Have the looks in people's eyes [expectations] as they look at you changed now? wdh: Rather than saying that there's a newly found sense of trust, I think people are looking forward to me [and his projects/acting]. From now on, they'll probably watch me while questioning whether I will be able to do well until the end. I don't think tests like these will be the last.
Depending on how you look at it, the character 'Seok Dongcheol' might be a character with a lot of strength [power]. [Because] He has a cold [facial] impression, a rebellious temperament and even has a heart that's full of wounds. wdh: I had the feeling that more guys [compared to women] would like the character if I expressed the Dongcheol in the script well. [Because] I was drawn to Dongcheol's manliness [masculinity] at first as well. If this friend [Dongcheol] is confident that he is right, he [is the style to] jumps right into it. To do that is easier said that done. To me, I think Dongcheol was probably a child that was like a blank canvas. As he grew up, he started to believe things one at a time as he experienced them. Like how he came to hold the belief that you should not, under any circumstance, hit women, and that they are to be protected after his mother left home because of his alcoholic father. And because he grew up with his grandmother, I think the only person he can trust in this world is his grandmother. In that sense, you could say that he's a friend who is naive.
How have you come to meet such a charming character [Seok Dongcheol]? wdh: After the movie 'Master' finished, I started auditioning for roles again. <Save Me> was the tenth audition that I went to this year. I didn't even know that the drama was based off the webtoon <out to the world> ['into the outside world']. Even though it was a webtoon that I enjoyed reading. As I read the synopsis, Dongcheol's pain and the bond between the friends of 'gang of 4 country boys' really struck a cord with [touched] me. And the subject matter of a religious cult was also really interesting. I wanted to grab the opportunity no matter what.
Is there something that you've been told a lot since you've started acting and when you've attended auditions? wdh: I get complimented a lot that I have a nice voice. There were also people who told me that 'your [his] eyes are your strength [advantage]'. At the start [when he first started] people told me negatives things more [often]. [They said things like] 'How are you going to be an actor with those skills' 'Your low voice doesn't suit your appearance. If you want to keep acting, raise the tone of your voice.
How do you feel when you think back to those times? wdh: Now that I'm told what was once my weakest point [disadvantage] is now my strength, it makes me think that in the end, the person who knows your strong points the best is [no one but] yourself. You can't just throw it away [without any thought] because others say that it's your weakness. You need to keep thinking about how you can turn it into and show it off as your strength. That's a know-how that I've gained along the way of going to countless auditions.
What kind of strengths do you think the director of <Save Me> saw in Woo Dohwan? wdh: He told me that my eyes suited the Dongcheol that had been described in the script.
What kind of work [is involved] is it to play a character who is [already] portrayed so clearly in the webtoon? wdh: It's definitely a lot harder to approach. There will be fans who don't like [the idea of the drama] straying away from the original [webtoon]. I too, really hate it when a production I like gets weirdly remade. So I can't help but be worried. But still, there are parts that are of some help. <The Man Living in Our House> which I participated in last year was also based off a webtoon, so I was able to find characteristics of the role a bit more clearly whilst looking at the illustrations. Thinking 'that's what it's supposed to be like' [while reading the webtoon].
Then what kind of character is Woo Dohwan? wdh: Starting with my friends, I've been told a lot that 'you're [he's] living really well while doing the things that you want'. I guess the line differentiating between what I like and dislike must be very clear to them. I do have very clear views, I guess. If I think that something is right, then I go ahead with it first then wait to see what happens. My motto [in life] is 'It's okay even if you fail, so let's life a life without regrets'. But that has changed as I filmed <Save Me>. [It has now changed to] 'Let's be happy together.' I hope that all the actors and staff members will become happy through this production.
It's a thought that's suddenly come to my mind, but do you have the temperament of a leader [tendency to be a leader]? wdh: I think that I've wanted to [be the one to] take the lead [others] to do something ever since I was young. In elementary school, I would make phone calls to around 10 of my friends’ homes every Sunday at 9am. I would tell them to come to this place by this time. Even now when I go on trips with my friends, I'm the one who does all the planning and am in charge of the money.
Would those friends of yours have imagined that Woo Dohwan would be acting [become an actor]? wdh: Absolutely not. I've had this talk before with my friends of 15 years. They all said that they were curious as to what I could be doing when I grew up. Which makes sense because I was [only] 19 years old when I decided to become an actor. But they said that one thing's for sure - that whatever I did, I wouldn't starve [he would do well].
But why did you choose acting [out of all things]? What was the decisive factor? wdh: My father who involved in theater when he was younger had a big influence [on his decision]. I had wanted to pursue acting a long time before that, but was never able to express it outwardly. I wondered whether it would be okay if I did [pursue acting], and didn't know if I would be able to do well. And it was when I was 19 that I finally decided. It felt like if I kept hesitating, [it would be too late and that] by the time I decided I wanted to [act], I wouldn't be able to.
Have you ever gotten that feeling of 'as expected, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree' since you've started acting? wdh: I wasn't able to see my father act, so I've only heard it from stories, but he has a lot of [natural] talent. I don't think of myself as having as much [natural born] talent as my father. I get the feeling that 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree' when I take photos with my father. The feeling [aura] we both exude are exactly the same.
Between your face in real life and your face on screen, which do you prefer? wdh: My face on screen is better [nicer] by a mile. It's the face that the best staff members have made [together]. When the lighting director creates lighting that suits me the best, the filming director then films me in a way that ensures that I come out well no matter what, and then the director says 'this expression looks good', and uses [picks] the most suitable scene.
Is there anything else you have been continuing to do as steadily as acting? wdh: [writing in] my journal and exercising.
Really? Why do you keep a journal? wdh: Rather than some special reason, it's [just] become a habit. At first [it was because] each passing day seemed like a waste. If I don't keep a record of it, then no one would know about [what happened] my yesterday. I started writing in it with the resolve that I, at least, should keep a record [of his days].
How has that habit changed you personally? wdh: As I [you] move along in life, I sometimes think that 'today's tough', and then I read back to the journal [entries] I wrote last year and the year before that and [see that] I had a hard time then too. I think [the only reason] I have this current moment in time is because I endured through those hard times somehow [no matter what]. I gain strength to keep on living through today by reading my past journals.
Do you remember? In the interview we had when you received attention through <Master>, you mentioned that you wanted to film a youth centric, school based production while you were at an age where you still suited a school uniform. wdh: That's right. I said that I wanted to try acting in a [school] uniform, a tsundere character, and action scenes, and I've been able to do all of them through <Save Me>. It's not easy to have things go the way you planned [say] but the character that I'm playing right now is full of not only just the things that I want to do, but also sides of me that I am confident in showing others.
Your face lit up while talking about that. What is the thing that makes you smile in your daily life? wdh: I smile [laugh] a lot. I'm always smiling [laughing], [it's] to the point where it's impossible for me to pick and tell you an exact instance where I laugh [more than usual]. I even often tell my friends 'let's laugh and live'. You'll know once you take a look at my instagram account. There are lots of photos of me smiling [laughing] - I uploaded them wanting others to smile at least once when they see my photos.
Then I guess we should do the photo shoot all over again. [Change the concept] To Woo Dohwan's smiling face. wdh: I think this is a bit different [a different story]. Haha.

Chad and the Incel Chapter 5
Tumblr media
Rated: M
Fandom: Original Fiction (but inspired by the Virgin vs Chad meme)
Relationship type: Male/Male with a bit of Female/Female (the lesbians are adorable, btw) and unrequited Male/Female (in other words, the guys are bisexual).
Description: Chad is, well, a Chad, or at least he looks like one. He’s got his sights set on the cool nerd Becky and enlists the help of her shy incel ex-friend Noah, offering to help him get the gorgeous girl (Stacy) he desperately wants. Noah is reluctant to help, believing that he will be stuck in inceldom forever, but Chad’s interest in his life gives him hope. When their plans go awry, they start turning their romantic attention towards each other.
Content Warning: Given the subject matter, you can guess that this story has dark themes in it, such as suicide and self-harm (plus the mental health issues that often cause them), sexism, slut-shaming homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. There is also swearing and some mentions of sex but nothing too explicit (hence the M rating as opposed to an Explicit rating).
5th Post: Rate my looks
Noah’s hand wobbled as he held his phone up. The same words repeated in his head.
‘I’m not taking a selfie because I’m a narcissist. This is important research.’
He took a photo and glowered at it. He took another photo. Then another. Eventually he had taken ten photos and hated all of them. He took one last photo and sighed. It would have to do.
He uploaded the photo to Incels.me while holding his breath. His nerves were set aflame and he felt like pacing through his house. He expected low ratings on his looks from the other incels but he knew he needed to see those bad ratings, anything to take him out of the fairyland he’d let himself fall in thanks to Chad. He lied down on his bed and stared at the ceiling, wondering if he would ever get any sleep. Half an hour later, his drooping eyes gave him his answer.
When he arrived at school the next day, his jitteriness was not lost in Chad. ‘You okay?’ Chad asked as they sat down to eat at lunchtime.
‘I’m fine!’ Noah snapped at him.
‘Jeez, who woke up on the wrong side of the-’
‘I have no patience for clichés right now, Chad Thundercock.’
Chad’s cheeks cherried up. ‘What did you call me?’ The speed of his heartbeats would impress a bullet train.
Noah’s face turned into the colour opposite to the pill mentality he followed. He looked around the cafeteria and thanked the laws of nature that everyone was too busy talking to each other to overhear what he said.
‘I didn’t mean… it was an accident. I’ve heard people call popular guys Chad Thundercock, so it just kind of slipped out. It’s just a meme.’
A high-pitched and overly loud laugh came from Chad’s throat, his mind repeatedly telling his cheeks to turn down the heat and said cheeks refusing to listen. His eyebrows raised and pushed themselves together, creating wrinkles on his forehead.
On the other side of the cafeteria, Becky walked up to Stacy’s table, which was full of equally blonde and tan girls. She gestured to the one empty seat at the table.
‘May I sit?’
‘Um, I guess?’ one of the girls responded. ‘Why, though?’
‘I would like to get to know Stacy more.’
The girls at the table went, ‘Oooh!’ Stacy’s face went hot enough and her eyes grew big enough to make the sun jealous. Becky noticed this.
‘I see,’ she said. ‘I shall keep my reasoning between Stacy and me.’ As Becky sat down, Stacy looked away.
Another girl said in a nasal voice, ‘I’ve got to admit, it’s unusual for someone like you to want to be friends with someone like Stacy.’
Becky smiled. ‘Yes, friends. Well, Stacy approached me first.’
Never mind the sun, at this point Wolf-Rayet stars were probably envious of the heat coming from Stacy’s cheeks. The other girls leaned towards her. Becky crossed her arms as if expecting an answer.
‘Well, um, well, uh, I saw a photo of a fangtooth fish on her exercise book in science class,’ Stacy explained.
After a moment of silence came laughter. ‘That’s the reason?’ the nasally voiced girl asked. ‘What the hell is a fangtooth fish? Sounds gross. As if someone like you would like something gross like that! And wait, since when do you take science classes, Stacy? You do realise that’s not compulsory for seniors, right?’
‘Uh, well, it’s a…’ Each word Stacy said went quieter until nothing but her breaths could be heard. Becky gave her a warm smile and the other girls a cold glare.
‘The fangtooth fish is a deep-sea fish,’ she explained. ‘I thought it would be fitting for me to put a deep-sea fish on the cover of a book that encourages me to dive deep into how the world works. It’s a symbol of curiosity and I am glad Stacy noticed it. It may look gross but I still find it more encouraging to look at than a group of pretty girls who belittle their friend’s interests.’
The girls stared at Becky in stunned silence. Breaking the silence, the nasal girl asked, ‘Do you think you’re smarter than us or something?’
Now it was Becky’s turn to stare in silence. After a while she bowed her head and apologised. ‘I shouldn’t let intellectual snobbery take over me. I hope you know that your appearance is unrelated to my view of your intelligence. After all, Stacy is visually appealing and I don’t find her to be particularly unintelligent. I should go.’
As Becky stood up with her tray, so did Stacy, who apologised to the other girls and followed Becky to another table.
‘I’ve accomplished my mission,’ Becky said with a smile that grew bigger when Stacy raised an eyebrow. ‘I’ve learnt more about you. And in such a short time! You like deep-sea creatures and your friends are a little bitchy.’
‘They’re not bitchy! I swear they’re nice.’
Becky chuckled. ‘Then why did your voice get quieter at the word ‘nice’?’
‘And besides, it’s not deep-sea creatures I like, per se,’ Stacy revealed as she repeatedly stabbed her mash potato with her fork. ‘It’s sea creatures in general.’
‘I’ve got to admit, I’ve never heard of someone getting a crush on someone because of a fangtooth fish. Do their strong jaw muscles make your heart race?’ Becky winked and decided to test Stacy with the next question. ‘Or is it their ability to see in the dark?’
‘They have terrible eyesight, actually. You of all people should know.’
Becky leaned in closer, once again bringing heat to Stacy’s cheeks. ‘Marry me.’
Stacy pushed her head away. ‘Shut up! There are loads of people around. And besides, what made you want to get to know me? I thought you wanted to focus on school.’
It took Becky a while to answer, and during that break she stole a forkful of mashed potato from Stacy’s plate, earning a little whine from her. She laughed before swallowing the mash.
‘I’ve been thinking about it and I realised I’m fine. I’m doing fairly well in school so there’s no need for me to hold off on interpersonal relationships. If you haven’t changed your mind, I’d be happy to go out with you.’
Stacy covered her mouth but the creasing in her eyes told Becky that she was smiling. The blonde girl nodded and the brunette held out her hand.
‘Can I put my number in your phone?’
After swapping numbers, the two ate and talked about sea creatures until they had no food left. At that point they chatted about school until the bell rang.
Instead of paying attention in class, Noah scratched his itch by looking at his phone, which finally had more gigs of data. He went on Incels.me and felt his heart drop.
Ropeornope- You look disgusting. You’ve got no chin and your eyebrows are giant bushes. I’d say a 1/10. Find a sub-3 girl and you’ll have a chance. Maybe.
Ricecel- I’d say you’re a 3/10, but your tiny wrists threaten to put that number into the negative. Like, dude, you sure you’re a guy? My dick’s thicker than both of those things combined.
Lookcel404- 2/10. No femoid’s going to go after a deformed chinless dude like you. And why has no one pointed out your eyes? You look like a fucking femoid with them, so your only hope is to go for a pseudo-lesbian or some shit like that.
There were several more but the teacher asked Noah a question so he didn’t look at the rest. When school ended, Chad asked Noah if he could hang out at his place.
When Noah asked why, Chad responded, ‘I’m curious. I want to see what it looks like.’
‘Am I some kind of zoo animal?’ Noah asked with a sneer, but he ended up leading Chad to his place in his old beat-up car, with Chad driving behind him in his shiny new car.
The wide one-story house stood in the middle of two palm trees whose dark leaves made the creamy walls stand out. The pebbled walkway to the house was lined with punch bowl godetias and California poppies. Between the letterbox and the stone-bordered pond was a grey limestone statue, about the height of the letterbox, of a cat sitting on a pillar. That statue made Chad forget about his initial disappointment upon seeing such a quaint, normal house.
When Noah opened the door, he was greeted by the loud meow of a silver cat with carbon-grey stripes. Chad was about to take in the features of the house’s interior but this kitty was much too distracting.
She rubbed herself against Chad’s legs. Noah chuckled. ‘Even cats like Chads, apparently,’ he said as he picked her up. He grabbed her paw and shook it up and down. ‘This is Mittens. Mom chose the name, so don’t call me a normie.’ Chad lightly tapped the cat’s head. Noah frowned and grabbed Chad’s hand, stroking the soft-furred cat with it. ‘Do it properly. Mittens deserves the best.’  The sudden grin on Noah’s face spread warmth throughout Chad’s heart.
Noah’s bedroom was a mix of expected and unexpected things. There were anime posters on the walls and figurines in a display cabinet, of course, but there were also model planes in that same cabinet. The bed was covered with a knitted quilt decorated with kittens. Near the door was a large wooden desk with a gaming laptop on it. Next to the laptop was a mirror.
The mirror faced the other way, so Chad turned it and saw a little crack in the corner. Noah stormed up to him, shoved his hand away and put it back.
‘I’ll die if I look into that damn thing again. I’d break it, but it’d make me look even uglier.’
Chad chuckled with a raised eyebrow. ‘What? Who told you you’re ugly?’
Noah sat on the bed, wrapping his fingers around his slender wrists. ‘Haven’t you got eyes? Look at these skinny things! They’re probably smaller than the average dick. I shouldn’t have bothered teaming up with you. I’m ugly as sin, practically deformed.’ He ran his hand up his neck and rested it against his chin. ‘My chin’s weak. Maybe if it was a few inches longer, I’d be able to get any girl interested, but no. I’m stuck with this chin and this overgrown nose and these pimples that make me look like I’ve got the plague. I’m surprised no foid has fainted in horror when looking at me yet.’ When he saw Chad stare at him, he covered his face.
Chad walked up to him and leaned down towards him, grabbing his wrists and dragging them down. Noah flailed but wasn’t strong enough. Chad let go of one of his wrists and took off his glasses, getting a closer look at him. He pushed his bangs away.
‘What are you talking about? You’re…’
There weren’t many pimples on Noah’s face, at least no more than Chad did most of the time. His nose wasn’t overgrown at all despite what he claimed, just slightly Romanesque. He was right about his chin not being huge but he seemed to miss the fact that it made his face look soft and welcoming.
As Noah bit his medium-sized lips in embarrassment, Chad basked in their sultriness. To him they were the absolute perfect size.
Noah’s thick eyebrows prevented his large round eyes from overwhelming his face, though those eyes were what Chad focused on the most. They were a brilliant shade of peridot and framed by long lashes.
Chad gulped, his eyes making him look like a fish on land. ‘… hot…’
Noah mustered enough strength to push his arms off him and take his glasses back. ‘Thanks, way to make me feel great about wearing glasses. You’re a real charmer, you.’
As he put them back on, he saw that Chad was continuing to gawk at him. ‘Still… hot…’ Chad whispered. ‘Then again, glasses are my…’ He coughed the final word away, straightened his back and walked back to the mirror, picking it up and showing it to him. Once again Noah covered his face and, just as before, Chad pulled his hands away. ‘See? You’re fine. What kind of girl would run away from this?’
Instead of looking at his reflection, he looked up at Chad. As their eyes met they just stared at each other in wide-eyed silence.
Tears built up in Chad’s eyes. He blinked them away and dropped the mirror onto Noah’s lap. He picked up his bag and rushed out of the room.
Even after escaping the house, Chad could feel his heartbeat throughout his entire body. Shivers kept swimming down his skin and his hands became drenched in sweat.
‘Fuck,’ he hissed. ‘Not again.’

Elemental Wars Book Of Wishes Chapter VII: New Student|The Sword Of Combustion
Friday Morning at school in 1st period class (Math Class), the new student introduced him to the rest of the class. "Greetings everyone, my name is Zak Sakagami, I'm new to this school, please to meet your acquaintance." Zak took his sear next to Anstice.
Few hours later at 5th period (Gym Class), All Boys and Girls, Freshmen To Seniors participated in the Boys vs Girls Relay Race. Riku vs Allison, Anstice vs Elena, Zak vs Sukina, and Lastly Junis vs Kimichi.
Riku tagged Anstice, Allison tagged Elena, Anstice tagged Zak, Elena tagged Sukina, Lastly Sukina tagged Kimichi, Zak tagged Junis. Junis and Kimichi was neck and neck in the Boys vs Girls Relay Race.
"Well we are halfway close to the finish line." "Indeed, we got this far but one of us will be victorious." "That will be me." "We will see about that." Junis and Kimichi ran at super speed, passing the finish line, they stopped at the entrance of the gym.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, We have a winner! 1st in place and winner of the Boys vs Girls Relay Race is Junis Yakamura!" "2nd in place in the Boys vs Girls Relay Race is Kimichi Ishikawa!" "3rd In the place in the Boys vs Girls Relay Race is Sukina Akamine!" "4th in place is Zak Sakagami." "5th in place is Anstice Galanos." "6th in place is Elena." "7th in place is Allison Dominique." "8th in place is Riku Griffin." The boys hoisted the Boys vs Girls Relay Race Trophy, congratulated the girls for the hard work and effort.
Later at 6th period (Lunchtime), Junis and Kimichi was eating Strawberry Cake, drinking Frost Flurry Cocktail together. "How was the meeting at the Nightclub with your mother?" "The meeting was successful, her boss from her second job decided to give my mother a raise." "How about you?" "Hmm?" "I heard the jerk tried to rape Akamine San, and he hurt you." Junis was silent. "Yeah, but I don't know what happened, when he tried to rape her, I snapped and killed him." "Yakamura Kun?" "What happened to you that night?" "I can't remember."
Both Yakamura and Ishikawa changed the subject and talked about something else. "What else happened?" "Mother and I trained at home in the basement." "What kind of training?" "Kendo Training." "What is Kendo?" "You're kidding right?" "Not at all, I'm serious." "Very well, I will teach you everything about Kendo." "Listen carefully to what i am about to tell you."
Junis listens as Kimichi tells him the history of Kendo, the meaning, and the rules of Kendo. He was surprised, gained a lot of information about Kendo. Later after school, Mrs. Ishikawa took Kimichi and Junis home, cooked Chicken Alfredo, White Rice, Black Eyed Peas with Iced Tea as both of them took their seats. They started eating their dinner, it was peaceful, enjoyable like it should be.
After eating dinner, Kimichi wanted to speak to Junis alone. "Yakamura Kun." "What is it Ishikawa San?" "Do you know or have you met Sakagami?" Junis looked at her and shook his head. "I'm afraid not, I never met him before." "I don't have any memories of Zak Sakagami."
She was sad that she don't remember Zak, especially never meeting him in the past. "I'm really sorry I couldn't help you, maybe next time okay?" Junis said as he went to bed. Kimichi started thinking of a way to help Both Yakamura and Sakagami regain their memories. She knew that she couldn't do it on her own, she went to bed.
Saturday Morning 11am at the bakery in Shenzhen, Principal Akamine and Mrs. Ishikawa began talking about the two students. "Ishikawa, explain why are we here?" "We are here because of Mr. Yakamura and Mr. Sakagami." 'What about them?" Mrs. Ishikawa needed a moment to think about it.
After thinking about it for 15 minutes, she began explaining to her about Junis and Zak. "Did Mr. Yakamura and Mr. Sakagami meet each other in the past." Principle Akamine glared at Mrs. Ishikawa really uncomfortable. "Answer the question, did they meet before." "Yes or No?" Principal Akamine got up, slammed her hands on the table very irritated.
You seriously have the guts to asked me a unusual question. "We are not going to be here all day, are you going to answer my question or not?" Principal Akamine sighed, sat back in her seat to continue the conversation. "Fine, but nobody should know about our conversation, especially Mr. Yakamura and Mr. Sakagami." Principal Akamine said. "My lips are sealed, i won't tell a single soul about this." Mrs. Ishikawa said.
Meanwhile in Tokyo, Japan, Anstice and Riku was talking about something new until Junis showed up 10 minutes early. "Good morning guys." Junis said waving at his friends. "Good morning dude." "How's it going?" "Good." "What's going on here?" "Well we was talking about the history of the blade called Nenshō burēdo (Combustion Blade)." "Legends say that the Combustion Blade is located inside the dangerous volcano here in Tokyo, Japan called Mount Fuji.
Riku told the entire story of the Combustion Blade, Mount Fuji, and the guardian that protects the blade waits for the hero to take the Combustion Blade and become the hero to slay evil. Junis understood everything Riku and Anstice told them.
"When should we go and obtain such a legendary blade?" "9pm is the time we will go, are you sure you can deal with it?" "I'm absolutely sure." "Let's chill out for a couple of hours."
10 hours passed, Junis and Anstice arrived at Mount Fuji. "There it is, Mount Fuji, where the Combustion Blade sleeps." "Woah..." "That is cool." "Wait where's Riku?" "He stayed home 2 hours before the time he was supposed to meet us here." "But don't worry I invited somebody that will join us." "Who?"
Zak showed up and waved at Junis and Anstice. "Hello guys, I'm here." "Oh shit, I sent the wrong person." "You didn't sent him here?" "No." "Well, Akamine San sent me here." "Should I go back?" Anstice was about to deny his request of help but Junis decided to chat with him. Excuse us for a second. They started whispering so Zak couldn't hear it. "I'm taking him back home." "Anstice you can't do that to him, he's our friend, he can be very supportive." "But, but." "No buts, either go along with this or I'm going home."
Anstice sighed irritated, agreed to go along with Zak helping him and Junis. "Fine." Few moments later, the guardian fought Junis, however the guardian was defeated when Junis and Zak worked together. "Thank you Zak." "Glad to help you out Junis." "You know what to do Zak."
Junis jumps and Zak threw him into Mount Fuji feeling intense energy coming from the blade. "Is Junis okay Anstice?" "I trust him, he will find a way." Junis walks close to the Legendary Blade, witnessing the glimpse of its power. The Temperature of Mount Fuji was rising from 80% to 98%, Anstice and Zak was freaking out. "Junis please hurry!" "Hurry!!!" Junis grabs the top of the blade and tries to pull it out of its pedestal. "It's stuck, I can't..."
"Don't give in Junis!" "Remember who you are, I believe in you!" "Zak believes in you!" "Kimichi believes in you!!!" Junis starts to pull harder, having memories about the monster who killed his mother, his father, and his brothers. Junis growls and his right eyes glowing bright red. "I won't give in to that monster..." The legendary blade almost released, he pulled it out with all his might, raised the Combustion blade up in the air, roared loud like a dragon, everyone in Japan and China heard it.
Anstice and Zak was shocked by his power. "Oh my God." "That was amazing!" All of the Heat,Smoke,Lava, and Ashes were absorbed by Junis. Junis put the Combustion Blade behind his back and got out of Mount Fuji by himself. his right eye turned back to normal once he got out.
1 hour and 45 minutes later, Junis arrived at home late, Kimichi was shocked and hugged him. "I'm really glad you came home safe and sound." "It's a long story." Junis explained everything that happened. "So that's where the roar came from, you had a vision of the monster who killed your family?" "Yeah..."
"Well is there anything I can do to help?" "Well since you asked, there i one thing." "I want to test my blade against you." "Wait, what!?" "I mean it, in our first battle, what do you say?" "Deal, but Mon-Tues after school, how does that sound?" "Sounds like a excellent idea, I'm in."
"However, I will be strict with you." "I will treat our first training montage like a war." "Do you understand, Yakamura Kun?" He was silent for a couple of minutes, but he took the risk because he was to be stronger and save everyone. "I understand, I won't let you down, I will give in my all." Junis and Kimichi went to bed.

300+ TOP SHELL SCRIPTING Interview Questions and Answers
SHELL SCRIPTING Interview Questions for freshers experienced :-
1. What is a shell? Shell is a interface between user and the kernel. Even though there can be  only one kernel ; a system can have many shell running simultaneously . Whenever  a user enters a command  through keyboard the shell communicates with the kernel  to execute it and then display the output to the user. 2. What are the different types of commonly used shells  on a typical linux system? csh, ksh, bash,Bourne . The most commonly used and advanced shell used today is “Bash” . 3. What is the equivalent of a file shortcut that we have on window on a Linux system? Shortcuts are created using “links” on Linux. There are two types of links that can be used namely “soft link” and “hard link” 4. What is the difference between soft and hard links? Soft links are link to the file name and can reside on different filesytem as well; however hard links are link to the inode of the file and has to be on the same filesytem as that of the file. Deleting the orginal file makes the soft link inactive (broken link) but does not affect the hard link (Hard link will still access a copy of the file) 5. How will you pass and access arguments to a script in Linux? Arguments can be passed as: scriptName “Arg1” “Arg2”….”Argn” and can be accessed inside the script as $1 , $2 .. $n 6. What is the significance of $#? $# shows the count of the arguments passed to the script. 7. What is the difference between $* and $@? $@ treats each quoted arguments as separate arguments but $* will consider the entire set of positional parameters as a single string. 8. Use sed command to replace the content of the file (emulate tac command) Eg: if cat file1 ABCD EFGH if cat file1 ABCD EFGH Then O/p should be EFGH ABCD sed '1! G; h;$!d' file1 sed '1! G; h;$!d' file1 Here G command appends to the pattern space, h command copies pattern buffer to hold buffer and d command deletes the current pattern  space. 9. Given a file,  replace all occurrence of word “ABC” with “DEF” from 5th line till end in only those lines that contains word “MNO” sed –n ‘5,$p’ file1|sed ‘/MNO/s/ABC/DEF/’ sed –n ‘5,$p’ file1|sed ‘/MNO/s/ABC/DEF/’ 10. Given a file , write a command sequence to find the count of each word. tr –s  “(backslash)040”  and load a file containing a list of user defined functions as soon as I login , how will you automate this? In bash shell we can create “.profile”  file which automatically gets invoked as soon as I login and write the following syntax into it. export PS1=’$ `pwd`:`hostname`>’ .File1 Here File1 is the file containing the user defined functions and “.” invokes this file in current shell. 14. Explain about “s” permission bit in a file? “s” bit is called “set user id” (SUID) bit. “s” bit on a file causes the process to have the privileges of the owner of the file during the instance of the program. Eg: Executing “passwd” command to change current password causes the user to writes its new password to shadow file even though it has “root” as its owner. 15. I want to create a directory such that anyone in the group can create a file and access any person’s file in it but none should be able to delete a file other than the one created by himself. I got married on the 5th of december of 2010, neither my husband or I has health insurance through our work, and neither of us are still attending college, I know they have made a lot of changes with Health insurance lately and I have a prescription that usually costs about $200/month, but with the Insurance it is only $15, I stumbled upon a website that says I can still be considered a dependent even if I am married, since my job doesn't offer Health plans, but it doesn't say anything about being married in the middle of the insurance plan year (starts and ends in August). The website is http://quinnscommentary.com/2010/03/24/no-child-left-behind-big-changes-for-employers-and-employees-as-adult-children-remain-in-health-plans/ If anyone can dicipher if it does in fact state anything about being married within the insured year, or if you know of any other websites, or anything about how marriage affects health insurance with all the new plans and Amendments to those plans. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!""

Car Insurance Question in NJ?
My husband and I have two cars- both insured with us as the drivers. However, his mother (and sometimes his three brothers) have been using my husband's car while there's is getting fixed. They've had the car going on three months- and I read on progressive.com (our insurance, obviously) that we're responsible to make sure any 'regular' drivers are covered under our insurance. I'm not sure their insurance situation, since the car has been so delayed in getting fixed- they may have canceled it until they get it back. So, I don't actually want to contact the insurance company- because I'm sure they'll do what's best for them, not us. My questions are- are we responsible to cover them under our insurance since they are driving it 'regularly' or since we have the car covered is it okay? What would happen if someone besides me and my husband had a collision in that car- would the insurance be obsolete?""

3 car crash.. I am the insurance companies hunt !!?
Hello .. I would like to listen to your opinios regarding this situation that has turned into a nightmare for me !!! I spent few months in Australia.. I have a full driving license.. I was driving on the M4.. I had 2 cars in front of me .. I was in the last car in the row ( third car ) .. the car in the front ( First car ) has braked suddenly .. The car in the middle ( second car ) hit it causing it much damage .. I could not stop at the right time and i hit the middle car afterwards .. Now .. The man in the middle car has lied to his insurance company and said that he stopped at the right time but when i hit him i made his car jump to the front and hit the front car .. I have now 2 insurance companies chasing me for money and treat me as a hunt because i had no third party property damage at the time of the accident .. My understanding was that the greenslip covers these things but actually they dont .. I have received bills from both companies.. 7000 AUD for the front car and 2000 for the middle car .. The details of repairs in the middle car ( that i hit on a very low speed) shows that damage at the rear of the car cost only 427 AUD and i offered them to pay it .. They refused and threatened me to go to court.. The police did not come at the place of the accident .. What do you think i should do?! How strong will be my situation at the court ?!

How to: Performing a Race-Ready Rebuild on Tremec’s TKO Transmission
Mike Maida, master technician at Rockland Standard Gear, measures endplay in a new Tremec TKO prior to disassembly.
The Tremec TKO five-speed transmission is one of the most versatile aftermarket replacement gearboxes available. The TKO was designed to replace a great number of 3, 4, and 5 speed manual transmissions with a 600 lb-ft of torque rating. The flexibility of this unit makes installation possible in any number of older vehicles and almost any variety of hot rods. Fifth gear in the TKO is available in two overdrive ratios, making it much more fuel efficient than the older 3 and 4 speeds it can replace. The low deck height of the transmission case makes it very versatile in fitting to older car models without altering the floor pan or tunnel. The TKO is equipped with both electronic and gear-driven speedometer drives, has multiple shifter locations available, and can mount to most available bellhousings without fabrication. It is available with several different ratios, which can be tailored to keep many power plants in the power band with good fuel economy. The input shaft spline count is 26 and the output spline count is 31, which gives the installer a vast number of clutch and prop shaft choices. There is a TKO500 model available that has 500 lb/ft of torque rating and comes with a 10 spline input shaft.
Tremec is a multinational transmission and gear manufacturer with manufacturing based in Mexico. Most of the three- and four-speed transmissions Ford has used over the last 60 years were designed and manufactured by Tremec, including the four-speed Top Loader. Several years ago, Tremec acquired the transmission business line from Borg Warner, which gave Tremec the T5 and T56 units. The T5 had an extremely long and large model run, being found in Ford, GM, Jeep and Nissan, but was not capable of surviving the horsepower wars that were on the horizon. The strongest T5 model was rated at 330 lb/ft of torque. At this point GM went to the T56 for the F body cars and Corvettes, which gave them a 6 speed with double overdrives and a much higher torque rating. Tremec than created the 3550 transmission, a five-speed rated at 350 to 375 lb-ft of torque with an overdriven fifth gear. It replaced the T5 in Mustangs. Still seeking more torque capacity, Tremec revised the 3550 to become the current TKO. In the process, they modified the 3550’s one-position shifter to a dual shifter location, making installation in a variety of vehicles easier. The engineers then added both mechanical and electronic speedometer drive gears on the main shaft so the unit would work with both early and late models of vehicles. The case mounting flange had a bolt pattern that would work on the stock bellhousings of many cars originally equipped with three- or four-speed transmissions. With the TKO, a whole aftermarket industry sprang up where vendors would sell a TKO with a kit for easy install in many previous models. These kits include cross members, mounts, drive shafts, speedometer cables, etc. to make it one stop shopping for an easier swap to earlier model cars and hot rods.
Making a race ready TKO involves strengthening certain components within the transmission, and Rockland Standard Gear are specialists in this area. RSG calls the max-performance versions of the TKO and T56 “Tranzilla”, a name that cleverly conveys the amount of power these things can handle.
So what differentiates a TKO Tranzilla from its stock counterpart? RSG’s president, Michael Weinberg, says the main focus is on the synchronizers. “The principal problem with the TKO is in the synchronizer rings. The stock brass ring is the same ring that was used in the original Top Loader transmissions. This works well for low rpm shifts, but will start to block out shifts at engine speeds higher than 5,000 rpm. [Rockland Standard Gear] engineered and manufactures carbon-fiber-lined synchro rings that will shift at 8,000 rpm all day long.” While 8,000 rpm may seem excessive, consider that LS, new Hemi, and especially Coyote engines will easily exceed 5,000 rpm in bone-stock applications, so the need is there for better shifting at high rpm.
When re-assembling the transmission, Weinberg stresses the importance of main- and countershaft endplay tolerances. “There is nothing wrong with the factory product, but an assembly line can never hold the tolerances that an experienced craftsman can on a custom build. We assemble each unit to zero the endplay at the shafts. Endplay is the axial or back and forth play of the shafts when supported in the case by the tapered roller bearings of the design. You need zero endplay and zero preload on the shafts.” RSG’s builders achieve zero endplay by stacking precisely machined shims in the case until there is no back and forth movement of the shafts. Zero preload implies that the shafts turn with no more drag than the bearings and gear train produces. If the endplay is too tight with a measureable preload, you will wipe the oil film off the bearings. Too much endplay will have the shafts moving back and forth as the helical cut gears try and walk away from each other under acceleration. This causes premature wear on the bearings and can also contribute to other problems such as jumping out of gear.
It’s important to remember that endplay will change as the transmission comes up to operating temperature. The aluminum case expands more rapidly that the steel components inside it, so in the car at normal operating conditions, you wind up with 0.002-inch endplay, which is excellent. Another area that demands attention is the counter shaft front bearing retainer. This steel retainer holds the front countershaft tapered roller bearing race or cup in place and is subject to leaks. The retainer fits very precisely into the transmission case and is sealed with a rubber o-ring fitted to a groove machined in the retainer. Always install a new o-ring and put a thin film of RTV silicone around the ring before installing in the case. The dimensional fit is extremely close and it is very easy to shave a piece off the o-ring during installation, resulting in a nasty, slow leak.
The next part that receives attention is the shift finger- a lug that is attached to the shifter rail with a spring pin. It moves the shift forks into position during gear selection. From the factory, the shift finger has two 45-degree chamfers machined in it. During a rapid 2-3 shift, the chamfer can inadvertently guide the finger to get between the shift rails, resulting in a missed shift. Rockland Standard Gear removes the chamfer and eliminating the possibility of a missed 2-3 shift.
With the modifications completed and all covers in place, the transmission is filled with lube and sent to the dyno for the final testing, where it is checked for proper shifts, noise, and smooth up and downshifts. The transmission is also pressurized with low-pressure air to make sure that there are no leaks.
“Tremec builds a great unit, we are simply correcting some problems to make it better at high rpms and blue printing the assembly to the tightest tolerances possible,” Weinberg explains. He also stresses the importance of properly breaking in the transmission, which would ideally be 500 miles of city driving over several days, using all the gears at light and medium throttle, gradually working up to near full-throttle runs through each gear. Be extremely careful with clutch adjustment to make sure that you have a proper release during shifts. The number one cause of early transmission failure, beyond lack of lube, is a misadjusted clutch with too much air gap between the release bearing and the clutch diaphragm fingers. If the clutch cannot fully release, disconnecting the engine from the transmission while shifting, all of the torque and momentum of the vehicle will bear down on the small surface area of the synchro ring, which was never designed to handle those forces. The synchronizer sliding sleeve and the engagement teeth of the speed gears will also get damaged, and those repairs are expensive. Remember if the clutch slips on engagement you only hurt the clutch, but a clutch that does not have sufficient release destroys the transmission in short order.
The stock, brass synchronizers in the TKO five-speed weren’t designed for high-rpm shifting. For applications where engine speeds routinely exceed 5,000 rpm, Rockland Standard Gear replaces the brass rings with these carbon-fiber lined rings which have been tested to shift at engine speeds up to 8,000 rpm.
One of the components that can contribute to missed shifts at high rpm is the shift finger. On a rushed second to third gear shift, it can guide itself between the shift rails without actuating the third gear shift fork.
To build a Tranzilla TKO, Rockland Standard Gear replaces the stock shift finger with their own design (right) that is not chamfered and cannot slip between the shift rails.
The front countershaft bearing retainer fits precisely in the case. It is sealed with an o-ring that is easily damaged. RSG installs the retainer with a slight amount of silicone sealant and verifies case integrity with compressed air to ensure this seal does not leak.
This is the TKO’s fifth speed gear with RSG’s own carbon fiber synchronizer ring installed. Note the needle bearings, which ride on a sleeve over the main shaft. Care must be taken with disassembling and reassembling the transmission to avoid scattering the rollers.
RSG modifies so many TKOs they’ve made a tool out of used parts that helps them replace the 5th gear synchronizer ring without having to remove the roller bearing assembly.
This picture shows the tool being used to press out the Fifth Gear sleeve, leaving the roller bearing intact.
Here are several new carbon-fiber-lined synchronizer rings soaking in lube prior to assembly in a TKO Tranzilla.
Here is the TKO’s main shaft prior to disassembly. RSG Will replace the brass synchronizer rings with new carbon-fiber-lined rings.
Because the TKO transmission was designed to be an aftermarket replacement for a number of OE units, it has provisions for both electronic and cable-driven speedometers. That’s a tone wheel for an electronic speedo next to the nylon gear for a cable driven speedo.
This picture shows the thin line of silicone sealant applied to the front bearing retainer. The o-ring can be damaged during installation, and the silicone helps mitigate any leaks in case it does.
With the shifter removed, you can see the two mouting positions for the shifter on the main shift rail. The four-bolt steel cover next to it reveals a “mid-shift” location that is also possible.
Rebuild complete, this Tranzilla-converted TKO is ready to ship. Note that the shifter is mounted in the farthest rearward position. Between the three optional shifter locations in the TKO and the myriad of shifter handles available, it’s possible to mount a TKO in nearly any car’s original console. If you like the idea of a race-ready, high-rpm five-speed, there are several options. You can buy a Tranzilla TKO outright from RSG, or you can send them your stock TKO to be converted to Tranzilla specs.

How Waldorf Overcomes Math Fear with Real-World Problems
Parents and teachers are often concerned about two things:  First, how can we ensure that students will be adequately prepared for what faces them when they leave school? And second, with the apparent rise in the number of students with learning challenges, how can teachers manage to teach the full spectrum of students in their classes?  Related to math, to complicate matters, parents can be sometimes fearful that their children will end up as math traumatized as they are. Inevitably, the fear seeps down from the adults to the students.
Math Anxiety Is Extremely Common
"Math anxiety: an intense lifelong fear of two trains approaching each other at speeds of 60 and 80 kph"
A research study from Spain showed that as many as 6 out of 10 university students present symptoms of math anxiety. Other research in the UK has shown that over half of adults can't do basic math at an 11-year-old level. It goes on to say that in terms of employment, people with poor math skills are twice as likely to be unemployed as those without. Another study reports that 1/5th of adults cannot do basic fractions or percentages and many cannot even calculate a tip at a restaurant.
Talking About Our Fears
What is the solution to the fear of math?  We can start talking about this fear with parents, our colleagues, and to ourselves. With teachers and parents, we can create time for discussions about this. We can ask, “What math experiences would you like your students to have?” Rarely will Waldorf parents say that they want their kids to plow through a long list of topics as quickly as possible. Then we can ask what it really means to have our students prepared for their future math studies and the “real world”.
How Does Math Relate To Us?
Waldorf starts off the introduction to math by asking a seemingly simple question, “What is the largest number in the universe?”  My son (aged 5) came home from school and asked me the same question. I answered, “Well, erhmmm, it’s infinity.” He said, “No, one is the biggest because I am one.” Other responses discussed in class may be, “One is the biggest because without it there isn’t any 2, or 3, or even a million,” “One is the biggest because everything there is in one Universe,” or “One is the biggest because it can be any number it wants.”
All sorts of philosophical and mathematical truths become evident through just this “one” discussion. This gets students thinking in a whole new way about numbers, and how they relate to us and the world. Eventually, the children arrive at “I am one!” - they see how their bodies are shaped like the number one, they relate themselves to the vastness of the Universe, and realize at that point that they are co-creators.
Waldorf Teaches Math Using The Whole Body
Waldorf Education does not teach math in isolation of other subjects. It is part of a holistic learning approach, which connects the child’s inner self (that Waldorf’s founder Rudolf Steiner refers to as “will”) and body through muscle memory exercises. For the Class 1 child, Waldorf Math is really a kinesthetic or whole body learning experience.
By moving to math in the early grades, even before reading and writing, the child develops a proficiency much like a musician memorizing their scales. It is a slow and unhurried approach that does not push the child to count or read too early (which has been found to taint a child’s passion for learning). Once a child is moving to math, he or she may begin to use beans or glass beads to better understand the relationships that additions and subtractions make with the whole. Imaginative math fairy tales are told, where the children get to participate in solving the same word problems the main characters do. This allows for a real “living” math to develop within the children. When children begin writing, they begin with roman numerals. They integrate this lesson within their form drawing block.
Drawing Roman Numerals
Each number, 1-12, is a discussion involved in this deep intensity of imagination. Waldorf begins with Roman numerals and incorporates geometry into the discussion of each number, scribing freehand the relative polygons and stars. The children work to master each of the stars, crossing the vertical midline over and over again as they practice on large sheets of paper. Eventually, a particular star will stand out as the class favorite which tells the Class Teacher an immeasurable amount about the class itself. All of this happens in the first grade.
Math and Music
Math is also closely related and taught with music, furthering the important connection between a child’s body, and their understanding of numbers. As an adult, I know that the most lasting memories for me are always those with more than one sense being used. I still remember vividly walking by a jam factory near my house when I was a child on the way to school and counting the metal fence rungs while breathing in the delicious aromas of the jams.
Stanford Professor Jo Boaler says that students most effectively learn "math facts" working on problems that they enjoy, rather than through exercises and drills they fear. Speed pressure, timed testing and blind memorization damage children's experience of math, she says. She finds that children who excel in math learn to develop “number sense,” which is much different from the memorization that is often stressed in school.
Problem Solving vs Memorization
And how do we generate enthusiasm for learning math and develop mathematical thinking? By carving out time in our classrooms for the students to have meaningful mathematical experiences.  One math problem, which helps foster creative problem solving, is to find three numbers between 1 and ½ that multiply together to equal ½. This wonderful, open-ended puzzle encourages multiple solutions and is appropriate for a variety of ages.
Another problem is to discover a special relationship found with any circle and two inner tangent circles – specifically: how does the triangle which connects the three centers relate to the radii of the circles? A fascinating problem! The problem invites exploration, debate, and a depth of learning that we should all be striving for. Using art, colour and drawing geometric patterns and shapes further enhances the understanding and enjoyment of mathematic principals.
Math Can Be Very Imaginative
So from the start, children are aware of the significance of numbers and enter very deeply into them. When they have the imaginations of the numbers, they use their will to execute stars and polygons. They move their bodies through the math facts of all four processes (+ – / x) each day, and create personalities for each math function. Some children learn about Tessa Times, Mickey Minus, Penelope Plus and David Divide or other characters who are known by how they appear and act. For example, David Divide has a sword and always chops things up, sometimes in half or more. Children take part in music classes involving flute, voice, and lyre to illustrate the beauty of the voice of numbers. They use manipulatives (e.g. bean bags, chesnuts) to work through exciting math tales and classroom conundrums.
This multi-faceted learning approach continues into Class 2. Here is a Class 2 report summary of a math block lesson:
Column algorithms vertical addition 1, 10,100. By using the image of the chipmunks and their holes, rooms, and chambers to store and count the nuts, the children understood well by the end of this block. We practiced many sums and wrote some in our books. We worked the times tables in many different ways, always with rhythm: sticks, walking clapping bean bag throwing etc. We reviewed the 2 and learnt the 4, 8, and 11 times table. In circle we are doing lots of mid line work, expansion contraction, throwing and catching, and recently juggling! We have been walking squares, stars, and some eurythmy.
Class 2 Main Lesson Book Examples
A genuine love of math can only be enhanced by a practical approach in the mid to later grades. In the third grade curriculum, fractions are learned through cooking and building. At this stage, there is the introduction of the orchestral stringed instruments at that same time, which also leverages many math basics. Math is the key to participating in the music lessons. Math is everywhere. The sixth grader gets to experience this by working with the Fibonacci sequence and Euclidean to Platonic geometries. Waldorf Education seeks to help students develop and integrate math, music, building, movement, storytelling, and more all at once.

The Finale
I sat there motionlessly, haven’t yet recovered from the shock of section I and II, and this is my 5th or 6th hour in, I can feel my bodies giving in and my mind giving up the immense pressure. The last section is the longest and arguably toughest section; with the devastation from previous sections I wasn’t sure If I still have the ‘drive’ and ‘fire’ to move forward...”What’s the point? I’ve already screwed the previous sections, I can kiss my admission chance goodbye”...I questioned the necessity to sit through section III when it is merely another round of humiliation and torment when the fate has already been decided. I could have walked out halfway and no outcomes would have changed...I was not built to receive such humiliation and never have i experienced such emotion before: mixed and uncertain...the booklet for section III was a doubled bound and double sided, as thick as a mini textbook; and I could feel the weight on my shoulder getting heavier.
I opened the first page after filling out miscellaneous details on the cover, to be only welcomed by a set of unfamiliar questions; they were hard, really hard. “I thought the first few questions were supposed to be easy.” I thought to myself as I scribbled, reread and annotated over the pages but it had taken way too long for me to finish the first set of question, nearly double the allowed time. I didn’t know what was happening, as if the 1500 questions I have practiced prior took no effect; not only were the questions of different style and format, the difficulty had increased marginally...they were hardly “scientific”. At that moment I had realized this is just another ‘shit storm’. The type of questions I’ve been practicing for the past 3 months were somewhere along the lines of: “Here’s all passage about the circulation of heart/glycolysis/Krebs cycle, now tell me which enzyme phosphorylates this or which valve is responsible for systemic circulation? Which is well in my comfort zone of ‘hard science’ that felt in the category of ‘things I had learnt before’...however in reality, the questions were much alike “This insect is dormant at day and active at night, and based on the flowchart, tell me which chemical reaction is responsible?” or “Dinosaurs have stride length x and feet length y, given the relationship of z, tell me the time it takes to reach 100 m/s?”...the questions were more closely related to entomology (study of insects), anthropology, bioethics and botany than say, physiology and anatomy. I was stuck in denial, refusing to accept the fact I had studied and practiced for 3 month for the wrong type of question...the irony is I could have studied bloody archaeology (I’m talking to you, the velociraptor question) and still do as fine for the GAMSAT. I have to admit...my deductive skills and reasoning aren’t well developed and I can blame no one but myself. Just like millions of other students, I grew up accustomed to the learning of facts and dates, with such an emphasis of memorization, critical thinking had to suffer. In high school and university for most subjects, if you could memorize all the equations, theories, facts...it is almost a golden ticket towards an exceptional grade. However, some may say critical thinking and an attention to detail is an intrinsic characteristic and it can become saturated with daily life experiences and I agree. Doesn’t a well developed critical thinker make a better physician than one who could only remember dates and facts...or Krebs cycle? and that is what I am scared off...a lack of critical thinking and the ability to solve difficult, unseen problems with limited information...isn’t this what GAMSAT or ACER wants?. Now I finally understands why people say “A science degree doesn’t equate to a high performance in gamsat, an arts student could outperform a science student”. It all makes sense now.
Section III continued to slaughter and murder, bit by bit my sanity and confidence are being eroding away. I anxiously looked at the mid age Asian man next to me, uncontrollably leaned towards him to peek a few answers...at this point my conscience and moral standards have been completely taken over by fatigue, stress and defeat. The questions just got harder and harder from then on, what followed was a frenzy of mad circling and colouring...as I was severely behind on time. “55 minutes left” the voice rained down, I looked at my answer sheet to find out only roughly 50 questions were completed. I had basically used the first 2 hours doing only 50 questions and now thanks to my poor time management i gotta do the same in 50 minutes or less...AWESOME! I could no longer afford to read each stem slowly and clearly while double checking each option. It’s time to skim read and choose the most sensible answer according to my instincts. This is no longer about whether or not I get in medical school or not, not about whether I get 70 or not...It’s about if i can even finish the test the begin with. I am in serious danger of just handing in a half blank page. Now there are two options: 1. do the questions with the usual speed, read carefully and try to get as much questions right as possible but the trade off is to leave at least 30 questions blank; 2. skim read, quick answers and guessing, this way I can at least finish the test with something coloured in, the trade of is inaccuracy, and wrong answers. Both options seemed probable and equally bad...the chances of getting correct answers are both low. That is a hard choice in a stressful situation under timed condition, I could only laugh helplessly. But as the clock arms ticked, It felt like my life was slowing sliding away and i knew i had to make a decision quick. But it soon became clear to me since the questions were so hard, getting correct answers with so little time is unrealistic so I immediately decided to prioritize finishing the test, accuracy and correct rate is out of the picture.
“You have 5 minutes left !”, my heart started racing and my entire body ached profoundly, a feeling of intense sadness mixed with happiness ran across my mine. I was sad because I knew well enough I ‘f**ked up” the test and I had disappointed myself and my parents who had high hopes for me; but simultaneously I was happy because I can finally leave the premise after nearly 10 hours of madness and 7 hours of intense testing... I wanted to leave so bad and wanted to just lay down and leave behind 3 months worth of stress. 5 minutes left on the clock but there are 15-20 questions remaining, It will take 2 minutes or so to merely guess them all. Once again I thought about my worthy Asian  ‘friend’ who sat right next to me for the entire 10 hours, I peeked at his answers hoping he at finished on time and those answers were correctly (at least better than purely guessing) but It was hard to distinguish which ‘bubbles’ he had coloured in...as a sudden wave of guilty rushed over me, I turned my eyes away and focused on my own test paper. Just before ‘pen down’ time, I finished colouring in all the bubbles, a wave of relief washed over me and I was at ease despite the abysmal performance (70 gamsat? stop joking, more like 45). “At least I tried, at least I worked for it...regardless of the outcome today, I’ve became a better version of myself, I’ve gained invaluable insight and that is what matters right?” I thought to myself...”Maybe next time”.
I believe my stories don’t end here, my dreams definitely won’t end this way. It’s too early to admit defeat. I do not want to doubt my abilities or ever think “Have I made a bad choice?” or “With my current abilities, am I truly capable of doing medicine?”...In your eyes, this may be a sign of immaturity, ignorance or unrealistic and maybe the relentless belief in one’s ability is narcissistic, but I truly believe the demise or crumbling of a dream starts with doubt, it is fueled by fear and disbelief, like Suzy Kassem’s famous quote “Doubts kill more dream than failure ever will.” This world is cruel, filled with things that will put you down and the question is: If you don’t believe in yourself, who will? If you can’t even muster the courage to uphold and fortify your own dream, can it be considered as a dream? I may be sad, I may be exhausted and I may feel useless and disappointed but what I will never do is say “I can’t” and I will never succumb to the impulse of “I give up”. Alas...i say, keep the challenges and hardships coming.

Texas Lawmakers Drew District Lines To Weaken Influence Of Hispanic Voters, Court Finds
SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - Texas lawmakers drew up three U.S. congressional districts to undermine the influence of Hispanic voters, a divided panel of three federal judges ruled, in the latest development in a years-long battle over gerrymandering.
In the decision announced late on Friday, U.S. District Judges Xavier Rodriguez and Orlando Garcia in San Antonio found that the districts’ shapes diluted minority voters’ power, either by splitting communities into different districts or concentrating minorities in a single area to limit their sway.
“When done to minimize Hispanic electoral opportunity, it bears the mark of intentional discrimination,” wrote Rodriguez and Garcia, who were appointed by former Republican President George W. Bush and former Democratic President Bill Clinton, respectively.
The third judge on the panel, 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jerry Smith, dissented.
It was not clear whether Texas would appeal the ruling. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton did not immediately comment on Saturday.
The three districts found unlawful are currently represented by two Republicans and one Democrat.
Legal battles over Texas redistricting have raged since 2003, when the Republican-controlled legislature took the unusual step of throwing out the 2001 maps and redrew the districts. Typically, redistricting occurs once every 10 years after the U.S. census.
In the decision, the majority wrote that in redrawing the southwestern 23rd Congressional district, for example, map makers moved 600,000 voters between districts and fractured a heavily Latino county in a deliberate effort to lessen Hispanic voter turnout.
Under former Democratic President Barack Obama, the U.S. Justice Department had joined the legal challenge. It is not known whether Republican President Donald Trump’s administration will continue opposing the Texas redistricting.
In his dissent, Smith found that the 2011 redrawing was properly based on political, not racial, considerations, and he said the Obama administration had overstepped its bounds.
“It was obvious, from the start, that the DoJ attorneys viewed state officials and the legislative majority and their staffs as a bunch of backwoods hayseed bigots who bemoan the abolition of the poll tax and pine for the days of literacy tests and lynchings,” wrote Smith, an appointee of former Republican President Ronald Reagan.
The Texas Democratic Party chair, Gilberto Hinojosa, welcomed the ruling.
“Republicans in Texas have ensured that the dark days of discrimination in Texas continue to loom,” he said in a statement. “The sun will soon shine.”
The term gerrymandering to describe the political manipulation of electoral districts may date to 1812, when Massachusetts Governor Elbridge Gerry approved a map that included an oddly shaped district said to look like a salamander.
Several Texas districts have bizarre-looking boundaries as a result of gerrymandering, including the 35th district, one of the three ruled unlawful, which includes parts of San Antonio and runs in a narrow strip northwest from the city.
