Why does The Spot have two haircuts in ATSV? (another hot take from an animator)

So yeah. In mhu as someone who works on this industry, I'd say it was a last minute change lol.

My theory is that they just cut his hair for this one bagel joke to work. It's pretty clear when you zoom in that bagel guy in the first movie was just a random npc. So, at first, they made the human scientist look with long hair then went back and said "WAIT what if he's the guy that got hit by a bagel, just to tie it more to the first movie, make it more personal". And because there was already so much done and the character design for long hair Johnathon was already finished, they left it there as like a past self.

Look, I love the bagel joke as much as anyone but I think that was a little bit confusing for the viewer ngl. Also long hair Johnathon had a more hipster scientist vibe to him that isn't what you normally see in movies, which I think it's cool. At least they tried to keep that style with the mohawk.

I hope there's a scene in BTSV explaining this. If I had to guess they're probably gonna do something like a time-passing montage showing how the scientists worked so intensely on the super collider that he had no time to shave or get a haircut.

And then he's gonna be like "tomorrow is the big super collider day, I'm gonna clean up (aka: commit the biggest mistake of my life)"

I once worked on a project so stressful that I cut all my hair on a whim on the bathroom sink at 3AM and I swear I came out looking exactly like this ⬆️
