You sigh shakily. “Fine,” you say and hold your leg out towards him. You know you shouldn’t trust him, but you have to accept what help you can get.

He leans down to take a look. “Hm,” he hums. “It looks like a pretty bad sprain. Good thing you have me, this will heal in no time!” He notices your expression and his smile dwindles. “Are you in any other pain?”

…Besides the emotional pain of literally being kidnapped and taken here against your will and not knowing what’s going to happen to you, really the only thing that hurts is your ankle. The drug has worn off by now, and your head is surprisingly clear.

“…Just my ankle,” you say. “But it hurts. R-really bad.”

“Ah. I’m sorry. Really, I didn’t mean for all that to happen.”

He didn’t mean for that to happen? He was following you home and started chasing you. What did he expect, for you to come with him willingly? You stare up at him, but your courage starts to dwindle into a panic. You remember how you never stood a chance, and now you’re here, in this strange place, at his mercy.

“Why did you take me?” You ask. You can’t help your voice from breaking. “What do you want with me?”

His expression softens. “Hey, buddy, it’s okay. I’ll tell you everything once I fix your ankle. You’ll get answers soon, don’t worry. Everything will be okay.”

You swallow the lump in your throat and nod your head in understanding. You’ll be fine. At least he’s being nice. This could be worse. This could be much worse.

“…Nothing else hurts?” He asks.

“N-no.”

“Okay. Your ankle needs ice. I’m going to go get some now, alright?” He stands up and starts walking towards the door. “Stay there, I’ll be back in a moment.”

He walks out and the door clicks shut behind him. You assume it must be locked, but it wouldn’t hurt to check.

But that would involve walking, so for now you look out the window and see him walking around in that… lab. It’s a pretty big place, with pretty strange things that you can’t seem to wrap your head around. It all looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie. There are giant glass tubes of colorful liquid, shelves of weird looking plants and objects you don’t recognize, dangerous looking machines, a metal table in the middle, cages. You shudder as your mind wonders about all the horrible things he could do to you in there. 

Your eyes flicker back to him— Anton— rummaging around in a drawer. You’re alone for a moment, you should probably take advantage of that. You have no idea the state you’ll be in once he’s done with you, or if he ever will be.

Will enby Helsknight/trans Tanguish/top surgery scars/stubborn avoidant Welsknight in a gender crisis make it into the main story of RnS? Like, a full acknowledgment of it? Because yes, us on tumblr are aware (and happily bully RnS Wels for it) but I’m curious to how it may be brought up in the main storyline instead of rambles and drabbles. (Don’t get me wrong, those rambles and drabbles are what get me through the day. But my best friend, who isn’t in the MCYT fandom whatsoever, just caught up with RnS and doesn’t use tumblr, and besides spamming her with tumblr posts I wanna know how much I can revel in the glory of the skrunkles with her!)

That is a great question, actually. And the answer is I don't really know.

So this is one of the downsides to writing things chapter by chapter. If I had gone into this going "oh heck yeah they're trans", this would've come up in the plot way sooner. It's nice information 1) for all the trans folks reading and 2) because it has the potential to inform the themes in the narrative. This whole story is about two chief things I think: death [the inevitability of] and identity [what defines you and why]. Why should you care if literally no one else (including the universe) does? That would be so cool to speak about in terms of a trans allegory! Why do you care about gender when it's just one thing in a world of crazy things? Or at the very least, how does it inform your identity? But this is a change I made on a whim suddenly, and I know Exactly Where I Want This Plot To Go, so trans topics and allegories as Plot Points probably won't happen.

On the more technical side of introducing trans characters -- how do you do that without just dropping "oh btw they're trans" in? Like, how do you make it a relevant thing to talk about, that doesn't feel forced or shoehorned in, especially this late in the story? Probably me overthinking, but I read it done wrong so often. It gets tired. And if I ever work on my original stories, there are trans characters in there! If I can figure out how to Do It Well in a fanfic, then I can figure out how to do it in original fiction someday maybe. So I kinda wanna take the introduction seriously? I've actually been thinking about it so much I've thought about rewriting the intro to the next chapter ahaha [it already needs rewritten in general, there's a lot going on, but the intro was going to be Helsknight waking up from something, and he sleeps shirtless, and not addressing top surgery scars then would be kinda silly I think.]

I can say at the very least, Gender Avoidant Wels probably won't factor in the story much. He is a character, but I don't think he'll become Enough of a character to faithfully address something like a trans self discovery arc. At best his issues with gender might be mentioned in passing.

Sorry! I know you probably want a better answer! My answer is basically: I don't know I'm still working on it. I want it to be there, but the capacity it's there is undecided.

That being said, I've been sitting on this glorious ask since the shenanigans started and the temptation to just Do That grows every time I read it:

The Hashiras’ Starbucks Orders (As told by a barista)

Capo job reveal! During my lovely six months working at Starbucks, I have acquired enough knowledge of my craft to confidently predict people’s orders. Just today, a lady came up who looked like she would order a caramel ribbon crunch five minutes before closing, and she proceeded to do exactly that! Which got me thinking—I love my job, and I love KNY, so why not use this superpower to match the drink to the Hashira?

So, uh, here we are!

Kanroji Mitsuri

-Starting off strong with our pink drink girlie! To be specific, it’s a pink drink with matcha cold foam. One of my coworkers gets some variation of this regularly and says it’s delicious.

-I couldn’t decide between matcha or pink drink for her so we met in the middle!

Kocho Shinobu

-In my heart, I desperately want to give her a Dragon Drink, but we all know that is not what she would get. Perhaps on a special occasion!

-Shinobu is a black brewed coffee type of gal, because it’s fast and efficient and will get her through the day so she can return to her Douma-killing, hospital-running routine! Girlboss!

Iguro Obanai

-We know from canon that Obanai can’t have heavier things without feeling sick, so one sip from Mitsuri’s drink would probably kill him instantly. Enter the light and fresh passion tea! It’s herbal and easy on the palate, which is right up his alley. His Starbucks dates with Mitsuri are officially saved!

-The pup cup is for Kaburamaru :D

Uzui Tengen

-He likes the drinks with long names so it’s extra flashy when the baristas call them out. Therefore, he gets the White Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew. -Besides, look how pretty that is!! I bet he has one of those bedazzled tumblers for extra flamboyance.

Tomioka Giyuu

-To be honest, I have literally no explanation for this. I thought about him and my brain immediately provided Hazelnut Latte with oat milk. So that’s what he gets.

-It’s warm and comforting which my man definitely needs. Besides the oat milk implies he’s lactose intolerant which is hilarious LMAO rip Giyuu

Shinazugawa Sanemi

-Sanemi strikes me as a pretty down to earth, no-nonsense kind of guy in his day to day. Therefore, he gets a classic Americano. (He’ll get it hot in the winter.)

-Surprisingly, I feel like he would be pretty nice to the baristas. A little gruff, but respectful and would probably tip his change. Unless you fuck with him, so best to just give him his coffee and bid him adieu.

Rengoku Kyojuro

-Alright, alright, I know I’m taking the easy way out on this one. But I genuinely think he would get it because it looks like him and he finds it amusing! It’s popular with his juniors too, so he’d probably get them drinks as well. -I actually had this drink today and it was pretty good, so he would stick around for the bright flavor!

Tokito Muichiro

-I wanted to say London Fog SO BADLY LMAO but let’s be real he’s like fourteen years old. The Vanilla Bean Frappuccino is every child’s favorite, which is valid because it’s fucking delicious.

-One day he would come in and slam a doppio espresso and give all the baristas a heart attack.

Himejima Gyoumei

-Gyoumei definitely strikes me as a warm and cozy drink guy, so he gets a chai tea latte!

-It’s wholesome and delicious. He’ll cry when the baristas give it to him because it’s so good. Often comes by to pick up a drink for Genya because Sanemi refuses to do it himself.

i liked the first issue. it felt a bit underwhelming but i guess that's to be expected of a series not meant to be a standalone, rather a piece to an overarching story.

the colouring is super cool.. the contrast in the rich colours of bruce's scenes, to the muted blues and purples of jasons. additionally the brightest colours of the issue appearing when jason puts the robin suit back on.. very nice.

i'm not a big fan of the narration perspective really at all. it would be much more interesting to me if it were alfred or something. hell, i'd even take clark narrating over that doctor.

i did like this little comment though (who would have guessed):

on another note.. angry dad bruce wayne i did not miss you at all. what a dick.

and can i just point out how jason's dialogue here literally just sounds like the same rinsed and repeated takes i see abt ADITF on here daily.. like he just went and tapped into the 1 collective fandom braincell over in those parts and spoke his mind..

something about jason being told to join her in the grave.. and the zombie connotations... he's literally destined to resonate with monsters i'm sorry
