Listen, he's a vigilante okay? It's not even stealing, really. He just wants to "comandeer" it to like. Get a closer look, maybe figure out how to make his own.

Batman commandeers cars and stuff, surely Damian can have just one little sword? He'll even use the same method and return it in better condition than it was - give a nice polish or something.

The problems are:

He has an incredibly limited window of opportunity - until they leave the meeting

Danny defended him - and more importantly, granted Damian the pleasure of seeing someone who'd been pestering him get punched while not doing the punching himself. Meaning Father cannot be angry with him, as he didn't lay a hand on anyone. And yet, the nuisance still got punched. Incredibly satisfying.

He does not know Danny well enough to judge whether he would find Damian's... "commandeering"... amusing or would take offense, meaning there is an additional set of eyes to avoid. Which would not normally be a problem, except -

Danny has an incredibly high level of situational awareness - Damian shares a few classes with him and has noticed the way he scans each room he enters - doors, windows, exits, vents, and every person in the room from closest to farthest. Just quick little visual flits as he enters, fast enough that he doesn't even have to pause at the threshhold. Damian has never been able to surprise him.

As his guardian, Damian must assume his guardian has the same level of awareness if not better.

Damian's Father is present and will undoubtedly catch him after the fact, assuming he doesn't stop him outright.

So he'll just find where they live and commandeer form there.

Except after a night of very careful examination, Damian finds "Frighty" - as Danny had called him - nowhere to be found. When he opts t watch from a distance the man never shows up. Researching meta's with his abilities turns up nothing and while he could probably find something with time, the window was closing on another option....

The solution was available from before the problem arose: Danny Fenton punched someone on his behalf - no he did not need defending. So what he can't hit back because of father's rules he knows how to take a hit he's not a damsel - it only makes sense to thank him.

Waiting a few days was one thing, but too late and it will be odd. He can't afford to ping alarm bells.

And what better thank you than an Alfred-cooked meal and a tour of the flower garden. And his guardian will have to come along as well, of course - his presence had been indispensable in getting the school to listen and the boy that had attempted to attack him had ended up with both a broken nose and an in-school suspension while Danny only got a detention.

Of course, he will be welcome to leave his sword in the umbrella stand... which will give Damian the chance to swap it with a replica while he's not looking. As for returning it... Damian will cross that bridge when he gets to it.

But first: to convince Father to allow dinner guests.

Danny is going to Gotham high which yay for him!

Problem? Right now he's in the office because he may have punched someone while defending damian and now everyone is waiting for his guardian

But clockwork can't come (humans perceive him a bit...well he just can't) and jazz has an important exam

So who's next in line?

Fright Knight! (Okay, technically he's not the Guardian OF Danny but more guarding Danny but details details)

So Fright Knight appears in all of his villain-esque glory and foaming sword

And everyone kinda freaks out because?? Danny, is your guardian a villain? What do you mean 'depends'?? What does the shrugging mean?? No we can't go back to the punch thing-

Spirit Box Radio is an indie horror audio drama which follows Sam Enfield, the unlikely host of Spirit Box Radio, a show for witches, arcanists, and the magically-inclined. Sam took over the show after the mysterious disappearance of his mother, the Illustrious Madame Marie, a renowned psychic. With no penchant for the Arcane Arts, Sam struggles to find his feet, and as he does, he discovers that Spirit Box Radio may be haunted by something much worse than ghosts: secrets.

Season One followed the mystery of Madame Marie's disappearance and uncovered Sam Enfield's true place in the conspiracy surrounding it. In Season Two, Sam, his sisters - sardonic Kitty and cynical Anna - and his snarky immortal boyfriend will try to unearth the mystery of the Man Who Walks Here and There (AKA The Man in the Flat Cap and Shell Suit, or The King of the Blood Rose Crown) whose many titles are found under almost every stone they turn. It's a story steeped in mystery, horror, trauma and grief, with plenty of softness on the side.

The show is made primarily by its creator, Pippin Eira Major, who wrote, directed and edited every episode in Season One.

Spirit Box Radio wouldn't be possible without the incredible cast of the show. Now 15 Voice Actors strong, the cast of Spirit Box Radio brings to life an array of characters, including; a shady but eloquent florist who cant be trusted; an Ominous Phone Guy; a trio of Inconvenient and malevolent entities; and numerous others.

Just like the characters in the show, our cast is mostly LGBTQ+ and many of us are young and trying to break into the industry. Here's who we are:

If this crowdfunder is successful, we're also hoping to add five more fantastic VAs to our cast!

Being such a tiny studio, Hanging Sloths can't afford to compensate our cast for their amazing work and provided the amazing performaces you hear in Season One on a voluntary basis. They've all agreed to come back for Season Two on a Profit Share model, where they'll all get a percentage of the money made on this crowdfunder. Here's a handy graphic breaking that down:

Our main priority is to make sure the cast are making something for their hard work on the show. Up to our main goal amount, we'll be splitting the money like this:

- 50% towards the actors' profit share (which exludes me, Pippin)

- 25% towards guest writers and directors

- 25% towards other essential costs including hosting the show on Acast.

Our initial goal amount (£2500) has been worked out to make sure everyone (besides Pippin) who is providing acting, directing or writing for the show can be paid an industry standard amount.

If we don't make our full goal, whatever we DO make will be divided up according to the percentages you see above!

Anything made above that will go towards compensating Pippin for his work on the show, too.

W o o o oo, been way too long since I posted-much art-wise... let alone anything of Aevri's own sister Elody either (whom I originally debuted here) T-T. Didn't mean to keep this lil sweetie hanging forever, so recently I've decided to give her a whole new makeover to breathe some new life within her role in TTM 🥺💙 Hope you all enjoy learning more about her again! x3

(Bio Info): Elody Ren (age 23) is the firstborn daughter of the late Ryu and Megami Ren, as well as the older sister of Aevri Ren by five years. Born within the calming village of Yulong, Elody was seen as a "gifted child" for not only her early-shown prowess as a Healer mage, but for possessing the rare sub-ability known as "Empath" magic. Within history, Empaths were known for being able to spiritually connect with someone through their emotions and memories in a much deeper level than any average human... giving Elody the status of a Saint-like figure within her community as she grew older. Everyone turned to her for help in fixing the issues in their lives, from small tiffs to bigger personal dramas... a routine that soon grew weary on the girl as she simply wanted to live life like anyone else her age (even with her natural-born wisdom/maturity)  Luckily, she at least had a temporary break once she attended St. Ravilda's and graduated into a traveling mage group (including Hakem and a couple others)... but tragically, upon being given the news of her parents' untimely passing, Elody found herself moving back home to be there more for her little sister. At the same time, the villagers would see less and less of Elody through each day... as she simply didn't wish to be burdened by their emotional troubles in a time she needed to handle her own grief...  Nowadays, with her sister leaving the nest to start her own mage group... Elody spends her current time as a lone healer far off from modern society, only ever coming down to the village for brief supply runs and nothing more. Each day she worries for the fate of Aevri to keep safe out in the dangerous world of Terra... yet Elody's own heart can't help but want to stay behind to give aide to any other wandering traveler nearby. It doesn't matter where they came from, what they look like, or if they might be a bit "uncouth" on the surface, as long as she can sense that they need her, Elody's right there to give them the helping hand... no matter what.   ----------------- (Fun Facts): -Elody's name was primarily derived from "melody", fitted from her late mother's past career as an opera singer. With Aevri being more of the singing-type herself, Elody's (ironically) more preferable to dancing.  -With her Empath ability, Elody has a habit of randomly psychoanalyzing people on a whim when no one expects it (think Dawn from "Total Drama" in that sense)... leading to quite a bit of awkwardness on both parties.  -While not always known to happen between non-twin siblings, Elody and Aevri share their own form of an "aura bond" with their similar Healing magic. As much Aevri once grew up jealous of all the attention and praise Elody got in favor of her... by now there's no doubt of how much the two truly care for one another. All Aevri wishes for is for Elody to recognize that she doesn't need to "parent" her all the time... that simply being a sister is more than enough for her.  -While it may not look it at first glance, Elody's not quite a pacifist as it may seem... as in fact she's actually trained up well in the art of halberd-wielding. Having picked up this battling style from her early teens (namely to avoid potential bullies/creeps), Elody had inspired this drive in Aevri to keep standing her ground (via-wielding her magic shields as throwing-weapons) in a world normally unfair to Healer mages.  -On her off-days from healing work, Elody can find herself spending her pastimes tending to her garden, hanging out with her beloved cat Snowie (whom she rescued as a kitten), meditating, and puzzle-building with some old sets she collected (but never got to complete) as a girl.  -Though still pretty isolated from her home villagers, Elody does her best to at least stay in contact with her sister and old school friends (often through use of letters delivered by Elody's messenger doves, another of the many animals she tends to raise & look after).  -On one fateful night, Elody had an encounter with a grizzled young man known as "Anveil" (Mod Magz' OC)... whom Elody

was somehow able to look past his intimidating visage & background enough to hear him out on his troubles. As much as the world of Terra doesn't speak the highest of this man, there's a part of Elody who feels like there's more to Anveil than what meets the eye... if only he's willing to take that step to change himself.

The Report Card – Fantasy High Sophomore Year Ep 16

Into the Woods

We rejoin our Bad Kids (minus Riz, who we’ll get to in a bit) who are still on the Goldenrod while chaos happens around them. Fig adds to the chaos by successfully (with a 30!) pretending to be one of Goldenhoard’s minions to no real plot significant effect. I just feel the need to mention every time Fig rolls a 30+. The kids get Gilear out of his hiding place--a sarcophagus--right before it’s launched out as ammo. His safety proves short-lived however because, when Ayda pings that Riz is no longer on the same plane as them, Fabian recklessly sails the Goldenrod directly into Riz’s last known location, instantly killing both himself and Gilear. So he’s for sure back to his old self. 

Kristen brings them back up and passes some heals out generally while she’s at it. Meanwhile, with a Nat 20, Adaine fully Oracles out and knows exactly where Riz was being held. There, they find a smear of blood (which they taste???? even though they know the disease is communicable by blood???) and Riz’s briefcase, but no body. Plus Tracker smells Celestial energy and Ayda senses conjuration magic. But all that subtle sleuthing is made pointless by Kristen getting a Nat 20 (of course) to just stumble into the next room and find a room full of footage of exactly what happened. Wild. 

Bill can’t get them to where Riz is. The best he can do is get them to the Astral Plane. Fig remembers to check on the stuff she stole from Vraz. Baby just got a to-do list but Fig conveniently grabbed a scroll which will create a portal back to Arborly. Then, they cast Zone of Truth on Goldenhoard who gives them this information before they get to the Astral Plane:

Arianwyn was never working with him.

He repeats what we already knew about the NK giving him a coin as part of them working together in the past. He adds that his money being spent would mean it would come back to him 5 fold and also increase the spread of the NK’s power. 

He thinks the NK is a creep and says he never talks and only appears in weird dreams. At Fig’s prompting, he says he does look a lot like the skeletal figure in Adaine’s Scry on the Shadowcat. He also says he never dealt directly with the Shadowcat and can’t see her in the photo. However, the Shadowcat did put him in touch with Aelwen. 

The NK had more followers in Elmville but Goldenhoard doesn’t know who else was because he refused to join the Shadowcat network, which was a requirement. (I wonder if they include whoever the couple in Sandra-Lnn’s past was)

He let the NK have Sylvere when he was taking over the world because he didn’t care about it. 

Meanwhile, our little Angel Riz is en route to heaven with his dad who is happy-shocked to see him. Pok calls in that he’s coming in with a “good aligned, possible CI,” and it’s immediately clear based on the reaction of the person on the other side of the call that Pok talks about Riz all the time in glowing terms. They arrive in heaven and Riz sees that he has a little chair set up at a copy of his grave so he can sit and listen when Riz and Sklonda come and talk to him. Ally is almost crying. Lou is almost crying. I’m almost crying. 

Heaven--or at least this version of heaven--is set up like an office but outside. I’m picturing the classic Window’s XP background. We learn that Pok is a part of a special force called the Lower Planar Recon Task Force. Basically, it’s full of traditionally evil aligned races (like goblins and gnolls) who are perfect for infiltrating places like Hell. We also see that Pok has a plaque for getting his death avenged by his son.

Anyway, we see where Riz gets his attitude from when Pok kicks puts his gameface on (“Clues first, friends later.”) and has an extended puzzle solving scene with Riz (sprinkled with some father/son stuff). Highlights:

Heaven actually didn’t know about the Kalina=Disease thing. Riz and the gang cracked that for them. Kalina doesn’t ping a Detect Good/Evil but Pok thinks she would ping a Detect Poison/Disease.

He started seeing Kalina about 22 years ago after a mission with the Third Ring (see below). No, he didn’t cheat on Sklonda. If it happened via sexual contact, it would have been pre-meeting her.  

Kalina can’t pick things up but she can create the sensation of weight and substance by hijacking your nervous system. So, to his knowledge at the time, Pok had touched her.

He was introduced to Kalina by someone he already knew and trusted from the Third Ring (Falinel government agency). 

Kalina doesn’t have godly intelligence or omniscience. The way she blew her cover was accidentally mentioning seeing something firsthand she would have had no way of seeing (a river being in a certain place). He didn’t call her out then but he clocked it and started looking into her extra-governmentally.

Kalina got Sklonda her job in Elmville--which directly put Pok in the path of Goldenhoard, who ate him. He also strongly suspects that he got Pok’s citizenship revoked--an action that allowed Goldenhoard to harm him.

Pok thinks that, despite the Bad Kids’ focus on the sex aspect of the Shadowcat plague, it’s a lot more general than that (see eg: the life transference spell moving it from Sandra-Lynn to Tracker). 

Father/Son Interlude #1: Riz mentions that all of his friends are super horny all the time and he’s not about that. Pok says that he was a super late bloomer so it’s fine if he’s not into that now or if he’s not into it period--though he selfishly does want grandkids. 

Father/Son Interlude #2: Pok also shares a story about his own relationship with his superficially distant but actually loving 1st gen immigrant dad the twin theses of which are “People show love in different ways,” and “Work is an act of love,” a sentiment that workaholic Riz appreciates. 

Most demons can see Kalina. 

Pok was in hell undercover to try and figure out how devils had been successful in keeping Kalina at bay. He showed up in the Bottomless Pit but he was trapped there for a while--presumably because Gorthalax was in a gem at that time (also Riz mentions for the first time that Sklonda is dating him which he takes OK). 

Pok has a new body so Kalina can’t tap into it. Kalina must have learned where Pok was because Sklonda infected Gorthalax once they started dating and she got the info from him. And since Kalina spurred him to come rescue Pok than she probably wanted him to blow his cover. 

Kalina avoided having her picture taken. Once it was taken, she wasn’t able to do certain things she was able to before.

Pok says that Riz probably won’t be able to visit him again without pretty powerful magic, but Riz isn’t too concerned because he has some pretty powerful friends. And, with that, Pok offers to hire Riz as a consultant for heaven which, you can imagine, he is very here for. He takes his son to get suited up. 

Back with the other Bad Kids, they look at the assorted things Bill has looted and find some Holy Water, which they pocket, and a birthday present for Fig, which she is pretty easily convinced to open early. It’s a sick new bass which doubles as a literal axe (OK, not an axe, it has serrated edges, I just like the idea of an axe-axe) and can shatter rubies. They then say bye to Bill and get back to Arborly (with the Hangman who is still knocked out, but not destroyed like before).

The group collectively decides to leave Gilear in Arborly for both his safety and the safety of Kristen’s high level spell slots. Adaine takes some of his blood so she can Scry on him if necessary. Sandra-Lynn and Gilear exercise their parental rights to make their daughter feel awkward about her love interest. Speaking of said love interest, we learn what Ayda was working on in secret: a spell for Adaine! It’s called Adaine’s Furious Fists and it essentially lets her magic punch people. Adaine can punch people now! I mean, she’s been doing it since S1 but now she can do it effectually! Love that for her!      

Back to Riz. He’s in with an angel called Isosceles (think quasi-eldritch horror Biblical angel, not Halloween costume angel) who is like the Q of the squad. Riz gets hooked up with some new gear:

Trick bullets (like how Green Arrow has trick arrows)

A grappling gun attachment for his gun

Arcadian Watch: Equipped w/ a saw, laser (1d4 radiant dmg) and lockpick 

Seraphim Vest: Basically a wingsuit (temp fly speed of 40 but only laterally and down, not up)

Gregorian Tie: Equipped with a spy camera 

Once he’s suited up, Pok calls up a door that will get Riz back to the moment in time it was called. But, since they’re in no rush now, he asks Riz to take a walk with him and fill him in on some of the boring, mundane, unimportant stuff he missed from RIz’s childhood. It’s very sweet.

Afterwards, Riz pops back up in Arborly and everyone is super happy to see him. Riz almost blurts out what he learned about his dad but wisely moves the conversation to the Van where he tells them everything except the personal family stuff. Based on the info from Riz, Adaine thinks that Kalina was probably introduced into eleven society a couple hundred years ago by Landrynn Lear (fake cleric spreading the Kalina virus they learned about a few eps ago) so it’s not super weird Aelwen and Arianwyn would have been working with her. It’s less weird than Pok working than them. 

Kristen latches onto the part about the picture being taken of her taking away some of her power and they all do checks to puzzle that out. Adaine (with Arcana) realizes that Kalina has to maintain herself in all these people all the time and, if a picture is taken of her--has to make it so that she can be seen by all of those people at all times which is a permanent spell effect which is-as we learned earlier this season--very hard to pull off. Her not being able to do certain things once the pic was taken was probably just her losing power from the strain of this extra magical effect (my takeaway: don’t let her destroy that photo--or, use it as a bargaining chip). Kristen (with Religion) thinks the 4 transubstantiations (familiar to plague and spellbook to curse and so on) are curses which overlap and create synergy (my takeaway: take them out one by one and watch them exponentially drop off in effectiveness). Gorgug (with a Tinkerer’s check) surmises that the way to take the most pics of Kalina and weaken her would be to take a video of her and broadcast it to as many people as possible.    

Gorgug also has another thought: He wants to know if them having and spending their cursed money is actively endangering him. At the prospect, he decides to give all of his money away to the Tinkerer’s Hall (without telling them it’s dragon money, which means the curse won’t get passed on). Kristen, Fig, and Riz follow suit, much to Fabian’s shock and horror. Adaine opts to keep her money since she has no caring family to fall back on. 

They also--I’m just gonna bluntly say this insane thing that Ally conceived of--have another shrimp party which they livestream in hopes that it will go viral, gain a following, and then when they have video of Kalina, they can get lots of people to watch it. And you know what the craziest part is? It’s not a bad plan. It’s c r a z y, but not illogical. To quote Mr. Lee Mulligan, “The charity shrimp party goes super viral.” Amazing. 

The next day, Adaine brings back Boggy (who poofed in the last fight) as an owl so he’ll be a little safer while in Sylvere. Don’t worry, he’s still spherical as ever. The Hangman (now healed) stays behind, as does the Van--but they do take it actual gem out and take it with them. Baby is there and does come with them. Ayda and GaF also come at Fig’s request.

Fig is able to open a passage into Sylvere and they can instantly feel the ambient badness. They decide to start looking for the three things they need to make the Kalina Vaccine: Starmoth chrysalis, Herrowgray nectar, and Lundgreen pollen. The jocks and Boggy go for the chrysalis, Sandra-Lynn, Fig, Adaine, and Ayda go for the nectar, while Kristen, Riz, and Tracker look for the pollen.

The boys don’t find anything but, suddenly, there’s an image of a super creepy witch’s cottage in the gem, and Zathriel (the Celestial inside) bugs out before the gem goes dark. And Ragh is suddenly gone.   

In her group, Sandra-Lynn flies off on Baxter in search of the nectar but the flapping noises that should be happening suddenly stop. Ayda offers to fly after her but then also becomes distressed, asking why they’re in a house (the others can’t see it) before also vanishing.  

Kristen, Riz, and Tracker are looking around stagnant water for the pollen and they see Kalina’s reflection in the water. Kristen starts to film her on her crystal. Kalina (who they can all see at the same time for once) says that in Sylvere, nightmares are real, something demonstrated when Tracker fully wolfs out without the presence of an actual full moon. Kristen tries to Dimension Door out but they're too far in. They try to subdue her but Trcker vanishes into moths (?). Kalina says that Tracker is chasing down what she thinks is Kristen to kill her (which would make sense as being her nightmare). She says that she said she’d kill them if they got into the forest and here they are. She does a little damage to Riz to underline the statement and Riz starts recording her secretly. Kalina is doing small bits of damage (like 1-4 I think) but it’s enough that it will kill them before they have the chance to make tinctures. 

The jocks find the chrysalis and then look for the others. Fig tries to use Ada’s feather to find her but, like the sapphire, it’s dead. Through Boggy, Adaine can see the jocks are flipping out and find the nectar and go find them.

Kristen casts Greater Restoration of Riz and tells him to find Tracker. The attacks stop on Riz and double on Kristen. She’ll be dead before she can employ any kind of healing mojo than can help significantly and the other healer is MIA. Everyone is running to find each other and then they suddenly hear, emanating from every corner of the forest creepy laughter and they all see a crowned skull. Concerning!

Actual Crazy Person Bill Seacaseter: I had to kill Gilear as a matter of course but I love Gilear!

Bill tells Gilear to kill any man who looks askance at Hilariel. Fig (mirroring a comment to Bill from last season) questions what he should do if any woman looks at her. An enthusiastic, “Dealer’s choice!” is the answer.

Fabian offers to threaten someone who’s bullying Gilear. You know what that is? Growth.

Bill brought the Bad Kids to the Astral Plane but they wanted to get back to Arborly ASAP. I wonder if there was something Brennan expected them to do there and they didn’t.

Fig ripping the scroll was wild but, honestly, I might have thought that was how it worked too. It’s for sure a thing sometimes. But, in a similar vein, very concerned Fig is going to accidentally shatter Gorthalax’s gem prematurely with that bass. Feel like she’s not 100% clear on how that works.

Riz took over from Adaine this episode in unpacking my high school experiences, lemme tell you.

Wondering where Baron fits into all this. It seems like the kind of effect that Sylvere would be able to produce but he wasn’t in Sylvere when that happened and I feel like that wouldn’t be Riz’s nightmare (unless it represented anxiety about his not dating or s/t like that). What was that about? Who exactly caused it and with what ability? Is that just a standard demon power?

Not important but last week when Brennan said a halo formed around Pok he distinctly motioned around his head and not over his head so I felt happy to have interpreted that correctly when he said this ep that the halo was one of those you see in old pics of like the Madonna and Child and not a modern-traditional angel halo.

The idea of a lower plane task force is extremely dope from a world building perspective. Like, that makes total sense. 

“Don’t even talk to me until my death’s avenged.” I knew that was going to be a real mug as soon as it was said. 

The stuff with Pok and Riz was so unbelievably sweet. Him having a chair set up to listen to his family talk at his grave? Him clearly being the proudest dad and talking about Riz all the time? Him wanting to just talk about unimportant stuff with Riz because it’s his important stuff. Ugh, my entire heart. And Riz immediately reverting to full, “My dad could beat up your dad,” mode. I love them so much.  

I feel like Siobhan took coming up with a spell for Ayda as an actual out of game homework assignment which she should because Brennan *will* let her do it and then Ayda will save the party with it. That’s how D&D works baby I don’t make the rules. Hit me up with your best ideas.

Adaine actually asked Gilear for some of his hair in order to Scry on him and he’s the one who offered blood instead because he couldn’t spare any more hair. Feel like there’s gotta be a spell for that

Siobhan just casually says the phrase, “Mycelium web,” once again just being Adaine.  

Couldn’t Kalina just say, “Screw it,” and stop showing up in pictures if the strain gets too much? Like, if your cover is blown, it’s blown. Or is it set up in such a way that it’s gonna screw her before she has the chance to turn it off?

It’s funny that Zac is playing such a low Int character because he’s actually figured out a lot of stuff this season and he’s the one who remembered that dragon madness won’t get passed on if the person who gets the money has no knowledge that it’s dragon money. I wonder if we’ll get to see him play a non-Himbo next season.

Adaine, predictably, has no social media presence. Speaking of social media, I love the naming convention of just sticking the word “fantasy” in front of things like Twitter and Google--as in, “You guys are all over Fantasy Twitter.” Like, why even complicate things? You know what this is.

I had a stray thought that Riz could possibly use the door to come back after having done angel training for like a month but (1) that’s a little meta-gamey and (2) they were making an exception for him to be there that short time as it was. Anything else probably would have been pushing it. 

Is Pok’s heaven affiliated with any deity or is it just where all the good workaholic secret agents go? To me, it seems like it liaises with all the other heavens more than being it’s own main heaven, you know?

Oh man. Ayda disappearing and Fig clutching her powerful feather, begging her to come back after indirectly putting her the situation she’s currently in? Heartbreaking dude. 

I wonder why the people who disappeared disappeared beyond just getting rid of the NPCs.

Edit: Forgot to mention the part where Kristen rolled a -1 with her trash Dex so Ayda had to give her a portent roll to not instantly blow everything. 

The Bad Kids are in a very precarious position right now. If I trusted Kalina to be someone of her word, I might try to bargain with her--destroy the picture in return for letting us leave. From a DM standpoint, I think it’s probably a good time for an Abernant Ex-Machina. They’re in the forest too as far as we know and they gotta come back into the story somehow. This could be the time. 

Everyone going off about how Riz is a little angel and he could have told them if he was a Celestial and how much he loves Gilear while he’s not in the scene and can’t say anything is peak D&D. 

Bill Seacaster saying a bunch of insane nonsense and then Adaine being like, “Nice seeing you Mr. Seacaster,” is also peak D&D. 

This episode, Adaine, Fig*, Kristen and Brennan (as Sandra-Lynn) each rolled a Nat 20. Adaine and FIg each rolled one Nat 1 that was canceled by disadvantage and Riz rolled one Nat 1 that stuck. 

*I actually am not 100% Fig rolled at Nat 20. Kristen did for sure but I don’t have a Tally for her so I might have flipped those by accident.  If you happen to know for some weird reason, lemme know.

So quick background on sonic: Its a franchise that began as videogames but they've since grown to comics, tv, movies, etc. Sonic the Hedgehog is the main character and he's a blue anthropomorphic hedgehog who's whole thing is he can run very fast. Since the franchise is so big its collected a lot of characters and various interpretations of said characters resulting in a multiverse kinda like superhero comics (marvel, dc) have

So one of these "universes" is a tv show called Sonic Underground. In this show Sonic is one of 3 triplets born to a Queen (and they have a band and magical music instrument-weapon necklaces. im not making that up thats lit every single episode) making this a canon royalty au. And what goes hand-in-hand with royalty aus? Arrange marriage au/marriage alliance au. Which is where this mess was born

Name: Hyde/Jekyll Age: 35 Height: 9'2 Gender: Male Sexual Orientation: Pan-sexual/Unstable AU: Horrortale Info: Hyde is Jekyll's spite personality, coming out during times of extreme hunger, excitement or times of stress. He is highly unstable and often says and does things that don't make sense. Hyde tends to be paranoid of being eaten due to Greater Dog biting a portion of his shoulder off. Despite how unstable he is, he tends to joke around and try to scare others because "It makes them taste better." EXTRA: Hyde was created when Wrath (Horrortale Sans) and him were attacked, breaking open Wrath's skull and tried to eat him. Jekyll, who himself was in a state of extreme hunger, snapped, ultimately killing the attacker, the Snowdin Shopkeeper. He used her body to feed himself and Wrath until Wrath fully recovered. When Jekyll realized what he had done, he had Wrath create him a muzzle, which helps prevent Hyde's personality from coming out. There is no magic in the muzzle,  but the mental connection of the muzzle keeping Hyde back is almost strong to be magic for Jekyll. 

Name: Jekyll Age: 35 Height: 9'2 Gender: Male Sexual Orientation: Asexual AU: Horrortale Info: Jekyll is the other half of Hyde. He is mute, shy, and easily frightened. He has a constant fear of Hyde coming out and hurting someone so he often avoids things that could possibly trigger Hyde's personality to over take him. Which unfortunately is nearly all physical contact, eating, and any excitable activities.  This has caused him to be very with drawn and never allowing physical contact  or to eat around others, often leaving him hungry for long periods of time. Despite all this, he still tries to be friendly and cheerful when he can.

Downfall AU 1: Reign of Darkness

The darkness spread through him like a disease. In less than a month, it had taken overentirely. He never stood a chance, neither did his victims.

Unleashed at last.

Cries of fear and pain echoed throughout the streets. There was panic, death, complete chaos. The ones who survived squirmed on the ground, driven mad by Yami’s shadow magic. 

In a desperate attempt to stop Yami, Yugi tried to seal him inside the Millennium Puzzle again. The two faced each other in the mind room. Sadly, Yugi was far too late, his pleas falling on deaf ears. The darkness was too strong now. Yami was too strong now. With a swift movement, he locked the small teen inside the Puzzle, never to be freed again. This was his body now, his life. 

His influence spread across the land like a curtain of darkness. Chaos ensued as the people foolishly ran for their lives, then started to fight amongst themselves to survive when there was no place left to run.

…

From the chaos a new order would be born. The world started its new era, with Yami as their one and only king. Sitting on his throne, he no longer felt remorse, he felt satisfaction. The people would not dare to question his actions, as he knew better for them. They would embrace him, just as he had embraced the darkness.

But one question burned in the back of Yami’s mind. Just who had been responsible for his downfall his awakening?

In this barren, ruined world, there is still hope. Someday, the people will resist his cruel reign…

Or perhaps… he might be able to resist his own darkness again, with the right words at the right time…

Downfall AU 2: Second Chance

The darkness in his heart wouldn’t last forever. With Yugi’s lifeless body in his arms, Yami slowly came to his senses again. He buried his beloved partner in a place completely untained by his darkness: a flowerfield of red roses near the lake. The pharaoh planted a sunflower seed on the grave mound. Regretting all that he had done, the pain of living was simply too much to bear. Deciding he did not belong in this world, Yami took his own life with a swift stab in the heart. He perished next to Yugi’s grave.

Yet, fate gave them a second chance…

He would be reborn in a world that had reset itself…

But was it out of pity? Or out of vengeance?

A gift? Or a punishment?

Yami lived his new life unloved and unwanted. Abandoned by his biological parents, abused by his foster parents, bullied by his classmates, harmed by strangers, bumped into, stared at, spat on, attacked. He was despised by the living and haunted by the dead, cursed by an unknown force. His crimson eyes were the mark of the curse.

Yami didn’t understand why everyone was treating him like this, no one wanted to explain it to him. The moment any human came close to him, they turned hostile until they were at a distance again. As if the anger never happened at all. Yet, despite the unfair treatment, he never stopped trying to be on his best behaviour. He kept trying to do good deeds for others, hoping it would ease people’s angry hearts.

Until, finally, a friendly face appeared to him…

But was it a familiar face? Or someone new?

Magic AU

DISCLAIMER: This story deviates from canon considerably, though the muses act fairly the same.

In this Alternate Universe, Yugi and Yami are capable of magic. Yugi and Yami are both able to cast Black and White Magic. However, Yami is better with Black Magic, while Yugi prefers White Magic. Yugi is the 9th/current reincarnation of the light spirit Hikari. With every reincarnation, the light spirit lost more of its memories. Despite the lost past, the light spirit held on to its basic values of kindness and forgiveness.

Yami is the dark spirit locked away in the Millennium Puzzle. After thousands of years, the spirit had reverted to a more primal state, barely clinging on to sanity. Soon after he was freed, he did not hesitate to cast magic on those who meant harm to him and his host Yugi. Over time, Yami’s mind slowly stabilizes.

Yugi and Yami sometimes have a phantom pain in their side. Yugi feels the pain on his left side, Yami on his right side.

Merfolk AU

Yugi Mutou, the lonely college student

Yugi recently moved to a seaside town with his parents and grandfather. Over the years his family moved around a lot, throughout the country, causing Yugi to be forced to say goodbye to his newly made friends. Though this time, he might finally be able to stay much longer. He suffers from a water allergy, causing his skin to burn at the slightest contact with water, followed by a strange rash. Despite this water allergy, he wants to become a marine biologist. When disaster strikes, forcing him to be in the water for a prolonged time, he finds out his condition isn’t a water allergy at all…

Yami/Atem (name may vary), merman prince of Heracleion

Atem is the prince and future ruler of the underwater kingdom of Heracleion. His mertail is brightly colored, like most merfolk in the kingdom. His purple eyes, however, are only found in the royal family. His bitter father prohibits him from leaving the palace, but it doesn’t stop the prince from sneaking out to collect human “treasures”. Especially anything silver or shiny catches his interest. While he hates the palace life, he doesn’t really have the desire to live with landfolk either.

Admittedly, sometimes it gets tempting to visit the surface…

Merfolk tidbits:

Merfolk tears have magic properties. When shed underwater, they are distinguishable from ocean water until they dissolve after a minute. In that tiny timeframe the underwater tear can be used to cast a spell. When the tears dry up on land, they become gemlike and can be stored for later use. Yugi’s tears would appear like amethysts have soothing and mildly restorative effects, though the effect is amplied the more tears are used. Atem/Yami’s tears are like rubies and depend on his mood. Anger causes aggressive spells, sadness and fear cause protective spells. Atem, ironically, has strong connections to fire. With a dry tear he will be able to cast a fire bolt, while underwater he might be able to boil the water around his target

Atem is the prince’s official name. Naturally this proves to be troublesome whenever he escapes the palace to explore the waters. He takes on a different name, Yami, to hide this royal background.

In this AU, Yami/Atem retains his love for silver and other shiny things. This also serves as an evolutionary trait. Being able to spot shiny fish flitting in the waters would make the hunt easier. When the royal family and citizens relied less on hunting, their love for shiny objects served an aesthetic role instead.

Atem only sings on special occassions, or when a strong emotion strikes him. His deep voice allows for lovely duets, though his shyness holds him back from singing with others.

Background Lore: The culture of Heracleion citizens

Mer inhabitants still call the sunken Egyptian city Thonis instead of Heracleion. Despite the communal nature of Heracleion citizens, singing is only done during special occasions such as birthdays, coming of age rites, weddings, funerals, war songs and love songs. Singing on random occasions is frowned upon, and the wrong song for a special occasion is one of the worst taboos. Over the course of time the royal family strongly valued culture over nature. Ironically this makes them not much different from their terrestrial sibling species, even though they avoid humans and their ships like the plague.

This preference had an effect on their biology. They lost dorsal fins on the human torso, their fingers were no longer webbed, and their build became smaller and stockier. Their fish tails displayed more vibrant colors instead of just greys and blues, with more unusual colors and patterns being seen as desirable.

Because the city is situated 10 meter below sealevel (30ft),  the inhabitants of Heracleion are still more exposed to sunlight compared to deep dwelling variants of merfolk, which are more likely to dwell at an impressive ocean depth of about 3,688 meters (12,100 ft) on average or deeper. Their skin is still light as a result, but not pale. The shallow depth of Heracleion also results in a warmer temperature, allowing for less reliance on fatty fish and more on plant material and smaller animals like crabs and sardines. The inhabitants of Heracleion are still able to escape to deeper areas of the ocean to avoid detection by their human counterparts, but cannot survive past the average ocean depth.

Millennium Code AU Chapter 1: Program version

As a child, Yugi Mutou looked up to his teenage brother Yami. He was always interested in what his big brother did. That happiness wouldn’t last, however. On a particular night, Yami took Yugi to soccer practice. On their way there, a car collided into theirs, killing Yami instantly and leaving Yugi badly injured. Months later, Yugi was physically well enough to go home. Though mentally he would never be the same again.

The child was given his brother’s computer. The fascination he had for his brother’s work never left, in fact it had intensified after the accident. He picked up programming and 3D model making, managing to create a blank puppet model which he named after his brother. But there was only so much he could do with the 3D model…

The young Yugi eventually became skilled enough to repair computers, as well. One day, while trying to repair his grandfather’s old computer (working with computers certainly ran in the family), he discovers a complex code that no one was able to decipher yet. He moved the data to his own computer and attempted to decipher it.

After many years, in the present day, Yugi has become a skilled engineer, coder and hacker, staying indoors often to work on computers. Yugi finally manages to put the code together, gaining access to a mysterious program. Slowly but surely, the program seems to think and act on his own, even appearing to feel emotion. His AI almost seemed human. The program latches on to the old 3D model Yugi made, then names itself yAmI in computer languages, though it is written as “Yami”.

Millennium Code AU Chapter 1: Robot version

In this version, Yugi manages to upload the solved Millennium Code to a robot he built. This basically skips the step of yAmI being a program first, providing a different beginning. Later on the story ends up similar to the program version.

Millennium Code AU Chapter 2: Monster World MMO

It soon becomes clear this code is part of a much bigger project: A vast virtual world. The Millennium code is the key to completing the world, creating sentient, virtual lifeforms. After an attempt to copy the Millennium code in order to complete the project, the copied data ends up bug-ridden, turning rogue. It spreads like a virus. Robots, machines, devices, nothing is safe from the copy. Like a hivemind the copy constructs a machine capable of connecting the real world with the virtual world. Thankfully, not all of the copied data turned rogue…

In this Alternate Universe, Yugi and Yami/Atem are Pokémon trainers. Naturally they don’t start with a full team, but gain new allies over time. This AU can take place in Domino City or the Pokémon universe.

Yugi gets his Pokémon faster because of his kind, approachable nature. Though it takes longer for them to get stronger. The small teen prefers to travel and befriend people and Pokémon, rather than become a Champion. While he doesn’t care much about battling, he will do so if absolutely necessary: having his Pokémon fight criminals and other kinds of wrongdoers.

Yami/Atem (name depends on the version) is very competitive, never refusing a trainer battle. Because of this, his Pokémon are considerably stronger. Due to his focus on training, his team has fewer numbers for a longer time.

Brothers version: In some RPs, Yami will be Atem’s nickname. Yugi and Atem are twin brothers and have their own set of Pokémon. Atem has his own identity and memories. Since he is his own person, he has his own starter (Yamask). Yugi’s starter Pokémon in this version is Espurr. Both brothers also receive an Eevee, Yugi’s Eevee evolves into Espeon and Atem’s into Umbreon.

Spirit version: Like in canon, Yami Yugi is a spirit without memories. Since he can’t have his own Pokémon in this state, he shares the team with Yugi. In this version, Yugi’s starter is a Deino. The Eevee Yugi receives evolves into Sylveon.

London, April 13-15, 2017. from top left: iraqi anti-deportation rally in westminster, big ben, the front room where i am sleeping, trafalgar square, walking along the canals in camden, and a shot of the marshes across the canal in clapton. ~ i arrived in london on thursday the thirteenth. before coming "officially" into the country i had to go through border control. the line for non-uk/eu passports strung back and forth for ages, the loud voices of eager american families blended with the melody of languages like chinese and hindi. behind me stood a tall middle aged man with a leather jacket and a british accent. he was in line waiting with his wife who i soon found out was from new jersey. i don't remember how the conversation started but for about thirty minutes we chatted in line about independence, school, gentrification, and music (the man used to be in a band that toured across europe in his day). when it came time to meet the border officers we wanted to exchange numbers and they invited me to visit whenever i wanted (they live in pasadena). the man at border control was patient enough but grilled me on the basis that i was a minor and if anything happened to me before i got to my friends on the other side of the airport, he would be responsible. my new friends waited on the other side of the border. "we will vouch for her!" shouted the man. they scribbled down their address and numbers and told me to give them a call, asking if i was sure i would be ok before bouncing. after presenting an official form signed by my mother and telling the border officer i would "find someone in uniform" if i ever lost my phone and wallet, i got through, national once again. ~ tamara and charlie live in walthamstow, an area in the north east of london that has the longest market in england (longest, not biggest charlie would emphasize). around the corner from the house is a turkish market and a chicken shop which they utilize frequently and fondly. when i first arrived, after a long ride in the tube back to walthamstow they immediately grabbed some beers at the turkish market and took me back to the house to meet their housemates. they are all extremely kind and funny lefties who i feel have treated me with lots of respect. i am used to having older friends at this point, but sometimes when the age gap is so large i can feel it effecting the way people address me. i don't feel that at all in this house, people are very genuine and sincere. the first night, charlie, tamara, their friend sohail and i went to a small iraqi anti-deportation rally. recently, iraqis have been being deported from england for the first time in a decade. the british government is also deporting and detaining many other refugees and migrants coming primarily from north africa and "the middle east." london has a huge presence of recent immigrants and refugees from turkey, syria, iran, iraq, afghanistan and pakistan. they organize themselves regularly to stop deportation. a complaint is that when white folks hold pro-refugee actions they are completely white, but those same folks don't show up to support at rallies organized by immigrant peoples. after the rally they took me to a weatherspoon, what they call "spoons" which is a pub chain (this particular location where they would apparently congregate after every demo that ended in parliament square). we talked about veganism and the way that racism is understood differently in europe/the uk/the usa. afterwards we headed back to a pub in walthamstow and met with the housemates again. i thought germans drank a lot of beer, but the real winner is the brits! i have no stomach for so much ale, because i get full after my first or second pint... maya told me that it is ok, after a while of being around the house everyone grows a second stomach just for beer. every one of the house mates has an interesting background--tamara is from nicaragua, chery is irish, ruairidh grew up in newcastle australia, charlie from st. louis, fran from italy but who grew up in china. i am having fun uncovering more about their stories and listening to them talk about their lives. i am fascinated that they have all ended up here together, through politics have met and started a household in london. when we got back to the house we all sat around eating ruairidh's homemade stew and playing instruments late into the night. ~ friday was the day of my gig at vinyl deptford. beforehand, we got free indian food at a stand on ucl campus, which apparently serves free food to hundreds of people, mostly students, per week (making food not bombs a bit secondary at protests). we walked along the canals marveling at all the different houseboats. we came along one that was a quaint book shop! we ran into cal coincidentally along the canal below the camden market (which tamara and charlie were devestated to see so commercialized and gentrified--they are tearing out a large portion of what used to be market to build a casino). the show in deptford was lovely. the venue is the small basement of the record shop, which was full of people (even if it was small, it felt full and warm). tamara and charlie were being so loving and supportive, and in between the sets leading to mine we would sit outside and chat with an eccentric nineteen year old named indigo who lives in manchester but came to see cal (and apparently never stops moving). i forgot to bring tapes to sell, but when it was my turn to go on it didn't matter much. the lighting made it so that i felt as though i was singing just to the people in the front row, which included indigo, cal, tamara and charlie. i am glad i impressed cal because they are experienced in show seeing and playing and are also the type of person who is deeply cool. they know what they like and they are very sincere about it. the other musicians were so great and roxy from furore was particularly kind to me after my set. a man who filmed the entire thing insisted that he wanted a tape next time i came through london (but refused to buy one online). some other person named mel gave me the contact info of a friend who has an international music collective she thought i would fit well into. indigo told me they want to get better at guitar after seeing me play. charlie and tamara were the most supportive of all, and the spirits were high as a large group of us drifted away from the venue. cal and their friends headed to a pub while tamara charlie and i went all the way back home to check on ruairidh who had just broken up with his girlfriend. their friend nina was over, who is really interesting. a few of us did md and we stayed up forever talking listening to great music. ~ saturday morning i woke up and finished reading assata's autobiography which is excellent: enraging and inspiring (nina named her cat assata apparently). i spent the entire morning talking with fran and nina and chery. even though nina had gotten sick the night before, laughter was abundant. cal came over after tamara and charlie woke up and we all got a full english at a breakfast joint in the walthamstow market. even though london is known for poor weather, it has been sunny and warm every day so far. yesterday was gorgeous, and after our mid-afternoon breakfast we walked past the reservoir and through the marshes. it is a magical walk because you go from a bustling london neighborhood into a park full of nature, absent the sound of cars. we sat along the canal for a while in clapton talking. it is so great that tamara and charlie and cal get along. but we all were laughing and having a great time exchanging the commonalities and differences of our experiences. after cal left to catch their bus back to leeds, we decided to go to a comedy show. best choice ever. the comedy at the bill murray was a free show, but it was packed with people and fucking hilarious. it left me asking myself why i don't go out to laugh more often? then i realized it is probably because a lot of this stuff isn't all ages, which is stupid. i haven't been carded in a bar since i have gotten here. that night we all met again at the pub in walthamstow, and after a while people came to the conclusion i should tattoo them all. after buying chicken and getting back to the house though, i started feeling sick and tired and took a nap and when i came back out everyone was gone except for ruairidh tamara and charlie. i am kind of glad because i was not in the headspace to give four people permanent body art. ~ easter sunday! fran is cooking an italian lasagna and a special dessert and appetizer. tamaras dad is coming to hide eggs and eat lunch with us. i am excited to chill the entire day and eat lots of food. london has been a wonderful time full of laughter and new friends so far.

  What initially got you interested in writing?

Oh, a tough one to start the interview with! In all honesty, it’s hard for me to pinpoint what exactly had driven me to start writing because I’ve been doing that since the moment I learned my alphabet! My mom still has a little booklet I made when I was about three, maybe four years old. The story is about an old woman that went to find water in the middle of the tundra. Plot twist: She didn’t find any. She died.

  Laughs aside, I think writing is simply a fundamental part of me. I’ve never veered away from it, regardless of everything else that was going on in my life. However, the output did vary—from scripts and plays to prose, poetry, or, during college, academic essays.

  How did you decide to make the move into being a published author?

Initially, I published poetry in my native language (Slovene), so I already had some experience when I went indie. And I think that background gave me the courage to try going down this path.

  The main motivation, however, was the fact that I enjoyed writing novels in English (tried it in Slovenian, but—in my very personal and very subjective opinion—our language is perfect to create poetry, not prose), coupled with the realisation that I didn’t want to continue down the academic route.

  Although I enjoyed exploring literature on a theoretical level, creating worlds and stories was what made my days complete. Still does. So I decided to pursue it as a career.

  What do you want readers to take away from reading your works?

Aside from the unique world every book offers its readers, I hope I can give them a glimpse into another culture.

  My dream was (and still is) to merge the vast world of Slavic mythology with genres people know and love. That’s why all my titles are either linked to our legends, have characters based on our gods and other mythological creatures, or are retellings of traditional fairy tales.

  What do you find most rewarding about writing?

Everything. I love the creative process from start to finish.

  What do you find most challenging about writing?

Saying goodbye to a world I created. Which is something I’m going through right now.

  Writing every day is easy. But battling the overwhelming emotions as reach the conclusion to a series in order to stay focused on all the details that still need tweaking… It takes discipline.

  What advice would you give to people want to enter the field?

I’m a firm believer that you should write the books you’d like to read. But, if you want to pursue writing as a career, things can’t end there.

  Research is your friend.

  I can’t even begin to say how much I’ve learned since I became a published author, and I continue to broaden that knowledge with each passing day. Editors, covers, tropes readers like/dislike, launches, promotions, pricing, formatting, trends, fads, cultivating habits… There are so many aspects of being a published author that I won’t go into everything here.

  It’s all online.

  A professor of mine once said, in an outburst of anger, “I’m sick and tired of your Internets!”

  Sure, he was talking about people who didn’t double check facts before snagging them off Wikipedia. But he was wrong to look down on something as amazing as the internet.

  We can’t study creative writing in Slovenia. And our country is still stuck in a very rigid model of traditional publishing. Without the internet, I would never be where I am now.

  And that’s my advice to you. Find writers’ groups on Facebook. Join forums. Read and learn.

  I’ve made mistakes in the beginning—mistakes I could have easily avoided if I’d been more thorough in my research. Though they proved to be an excellent learning tool in the end, it would have been so much better to simply get things right from the start.

  But, in my opinion, the one thing that matters the most when you decide to publish is the answer to a single question. Indie or traditional?

  Both have their pros and cons on paper. I say “on paper” because for someone like me, someone who likes to write several novels per year, values having complete control over every aspect of my work, and actually enjoys marketing, there are no cons. As there most likely wouldn’t be in the traditional field for someone who writes a novel or two per year, likes the actual writing stage of the process but gladly hands off everything else to a team of experts. Or, you can try to capture the best of both worlds, and go hybrid.

  So Google away, gain as much knowledge as you can, and create a path, tailored to your specific needs and desires.

In the great hall housing the Egyptian exhibitions, I immediately noted the change in the atmosphere. The room was cool and dry, its climate controlled to mimic the conditions in which the relics had existed in their native land.

The entire room had been designed to resemble an Old Kingdom temple. The main lights were dimmed while strategically-placed spotlights emphasized massive columns and magnificent wall carvings like sunbeams through temple windows.

I scanned the room. No other tourists. Even better. I meandered, enjoying the rare opportunity to linger.

Craning my neck, I ran my gaze up each of the columns, reading the images, admiring the palm leaves carved at the tops like great stone trees. Eyes toward the ceilings, I turned slowly around, admiring the handiwork of the ancient artists.

What was it like to live in those lands and those times? Could an ancient version of my spirit have been there, stepping barefoot and silently through a sandy temple like this one?

Lost in contemplation, I was completely unprepared for the shock of smacking into someone, bumping him hard enough to lose my balance. I’d have fallen had he not caught my arm. Wide-eyed with consternation, I stammered an apology to the handsome but serious-faced gentleman.

“You are not hurt, I hope?” His voice, deep and smooth, sent shivers marching down my neck, between my shoulders, down my spine.

“I’m okay.” I shook my head, too shy to make direct eye contact, wishing I’d checked my hair and lipstick before coming in. “I’m far too adept at being inept.”

He flashed a grin and I caught a glimpse of nice white teeth. “Temples are places for spiritual reflection. It is forgivable if your vision was turned inward, rather than toward where you were walking.”

His expression softened by amusement, he tilted his head toward the pillars. “Majestic, aren’t they?”

I stole another glance at him—black hair smoothed back into a discreet tail, clear light skin framed by long sideburns, strong jaw culminating in a square, cleft chin. Like the other items in the museum, something about him made me want to look closer, inspect each detail.

A subtle flush warmed my cheeks and ears so I quickly turned back to the heights of the exhibition. Murmuring a sound of agreement, I circled the column, stepping a few feet away so I could see both him and the stone. “Do you visit this museum often?”

Furtive glances allowed me to take in more of his appearance a tiny section at a time. Clothing dark as his hair. Long blazer, something in between a suit coat and an overcoat. In one hand he carried a bound book and fountain pen, as if he’d been making notes.

His gaze was calm and steady and entirely on me. Taking a deep breath I permitted the contact of the direct look. My boldness was well-rewarded. His Paul Newman lips brought to mind the sculptured busts on display in the Greco-Roman Quarters and he wore a stern expression that cast a veil of hardness upon his features, enhancing the impression he’d been carved from marble.

Except for his eyes. The Roman busts bore eyes that were blank and white but this man’s eyes were alive with bright green color. Like gemstones, they glittered and drew my gaze.

“No, actually,” he said. “My first time here. Although, I admit, I’m drawn to places like this.” His voice made music of the words—deep bass notes and soothing rhythm.

“Ah!” I said. “A man after my own heart.” His left eyebrow arched so sharply I thought it might disappear into his hairline and I hurriedly continued. “Are you a professor?”

“No, nothing like that. I do studying of my own, it’s not a living. It’s more of a hobby. Personal research, of sorts.”

“Studying past times is one of my pastimes. It’s my preferred form of entertainment.”

“Mmm.” Eyebrow cocked again, he cast a disapproving look at me and swept his hand around the contrived temple. “Would the gods be pleased to know they are reduced to the level of entertainment?”

“I hope so.” I kept my tone light. Considering the seriousness of his expression, I didn’t want to accidentally insult him. “Otherwise, they’d have to be content with staying dead, right?”

His gaze swept over me and I shivered again as if the touch had been tangible, a brush of fingertips against my cheek.

“Well, I’ll leave you to your worship. I mean, your wanderings.” He gave me a conspirator’s wink. “Unless…”

He hesitated, with a quiet clearing of throat as he tucked his notebook and pen into an inside pocket. “You wouldn’t mind a companion? Sometimes one sees things differently when seeing through another’s eyes. I would appreciate a new perspective.”

I mulled it over, listening to the rain spattering the windows and distant voices echoing faintly from other rooms. Although I’d looked forward to a quiet afternoon, it might be nice to spend it with someone who seemed to share my interests. He certainly was attractive, and his pleasant voice intrigued me.

I realized I’d become used to living inside a shell. This man made me want to step outside for once.

“I’d like that.” I smiled at his pleased expression. “I’m Sophie, by the way.” I stuck out my hand in introduction.

Instead of shaking my hand, he bent his head over it and pressed polite lips to the backs of my fingers. The quaint gesture would have seemed strange and out of place had we been elsewhere. “I am Marek. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”

She also writes for New Adult audiences under the name AJ Krafton. Her work has won a bunch of awards and was even nominated for a Pushcart Prize. When she’s not writing, she’s practicing Tai Chi, listening to loud rock and metal, or crushing on supervillains.

Most recently, she’s re-released her urban fantasy trilogy THE BOOKS OF THE DEMIMONDE because she never really left the world of Sophie and her Demivamps. She’s also working on the next installment of her Demon Whisperer series.

#dpxdc#Danny only refers to Fright Knight as Frighty the whole time#and they just have to live with that#Damian wants the sword#It's a Lazarus Sword#A flaming Lazarus Sword that starts flaming when you draw it#also bigger once it leaves the sheath???#it makes no sense#he's collecting magic-people's contact info in the background like#“I am ready to reverse engineer this I Need It and I don't care who I have to strong arm into helping”#Yes Damian absolutely did ask for a closer look at the sword before they talked about the incident#Everyone else was not a fan#especially bc “Frighty” gushed about it#(he loves that sword okay)#but to everyone else it was just#so many nightmarish sounds#Danny had to translate#it doesn't help when the translation includes stuff like “soul shredder”#and “personal nightmare dimension”

Danny is going to Gotham high which yay for him!

Problem? Right now he's in the office because he may have punched someone while defending damian and now everyone is waiting for his guardian

But clockwork can't come (humans perceive him a bit...well he just can't) and jazz has an important exam

So who's next in line?

Fright Knight! (Okay, technically he's not the Guardian OF Danny but more guarding Danny but details details)

So Fright Knight appears in all of his villain-esque glory and foaming sword

And everyone kinda freaks out because?? Danny, is your guardian a villain? What do you mean 'depends'?? What does the shrugging mean?? No we can't go back to the punch thing-
