Silco headcanons that are giving me absolute brainrot for no good reason:

Despite his surface-level formalities, he has a wry streak of humor with his crew. Most of this comes out in nicknames—a sign one has earned their place in his inner circles, as much as a staunch guarantee that any moment toiling at his side may end in a scathing dissection. Lock's is Lorry. Dustin's, Miff. Ran's, Viper. Sevika earns the most dry chidings: Pet, Love. (It drives her up the wall, every time. She'll snap back, Your scales are showing.) With Jinx, they always skew on the gentler side: Little One, Dove. Vander's and Vi's run in a similar vein: Blunder, Scraps.

He's not keen to party tricks—but find him in the right mood, and he'll put on the first layers of a showman. A blink-and-you-miss-it twirl of a butterfly knife; a whistling jet of a dagger halfway across the room, landing dead-center on the battered board behind the bar. Get the crowd rousing up folksongs and a few stouts in him, and he'll stick a lit match between his teeth, and let it glow through a gambler's grin. Afterwards, he'll pluck it out, unscathed, and light up a cigar.

Has a natural inclination to the piano—he can play by ear, to the note. He doesn't care to spend much time over it, though; it's a offhand hobby more than a craft, a holdover of slow nights at the Drop, when he and Vander dragged that ratty pub piano off a pawnbroker's hands and the crowds would jeer, C'mon, Swiftlet! Play a bloody song! When Jinx was little, they used to sit knee-to-knee on those quiet Sundays, and he'd show her how to pluck out chords. She would always marvel at his ease to them: all jazzy-blues and birdsong notes; dark, humming, discordant. (They're somewhere between this and this.)

Absolutely vampire-coded. He worked so long underground that he despises the sun (and heat, for that matter). If forced to endure a coastal trip, he won't leave the shade or his hat. On trips upside, he has a handful of tinted glasses he rotates though: red, black, blue. Some have metal-tamped side-shields and decorative chains, in vintage Zaunite fashion. Jinx calls them his old bat glasses.

Has shelves upon shelves of gramophone records, in every flavor imaginable: from flighty and operatic to downright bizarre. Tends to reach most for an odd blend of the Undercity's underground: ghoulish, howling jazzists, soulful harmonies, and the type of rock that splices one's blood and shrieks off the walls. Jinx's first foray into the set was with a record sleeved in neon pink, à la LCD Soundsystem. She immediately rocketed into a dance. After a hefty round of berating (and an equally hefty gruffling), he joined in—air-microphone and all.

Two old farts in a haunted house? One has a kid from an old marriage, the other has a banshee x-wife who tried to kill him? Like, he meets her while trying to escape his ex and she agrees to marry him instead since her fiancé admitted to not loving her except for her money. But she needs to be married to keep the house and he wants to be human, so marriage of inconvenience but they end up liking each other and stage ghost stuff for her show. Something something he lives or she dies and we get a dramatic ending.

I love how extreme found family is in one piece. Like they took supernatural line of "Family don't end in blood" and actually made good on it. Because it's not just that the crew found each other even before that only really very briefly Robin, Usopp and Luffy could say that anyone biologically related to them raised them.

Like Luffy had Garp and that's his grandpa but he also had Makino and Shanks and the red hair pirates and they were a family unit and he also had Ace, Sabo Dandan and the bandits and they were a family as well and it's never who mattered more to Luffy or who actually raised him cause they all did. It'd be hard to put him in a nuclear family structure because so many people fill the same roles in his life in different ways and that's great like Kung Fu panda said "that doesn't mean less for one parent it just means more for Luffy"

And that's the thing I think sometime fandom can get very obsessive with trying to pin down who is whose surrogate father/mother how do they fit in the nuclear family structure and while that's fun and there's nothing wrong with head cannon characters that way I also think it's important to remember that not every relationship needs a title or definition sometimes you are just family and that's valid too.

Ace had Luffy and Garp but he also had the whitebeard pirates and his pops same with Sabo and the revolutionaries

Zoro with Kuina and his old kendo master, that was maybe more of a rivals, mentor mentee relationship than whatever Mihawk Zoro and Perona had going on but it's all family none the less.

Chopper with Hiririluk and Kureha. Perona and Moria, Usopp with the little village boys and Kaya. Shanks and Buggy with the Roger Pirates. They might not all have had defined roles with each other but it was still family.

Just like Sanji, Nami, Franky and Law and their more defined Surrogate familes

And people like Vivi Robin Usopp and Shirahoshi who had/have their biological parents/family that love them and raised them.

It's nobody that I've just mentioned properly fitting squarely into any of these categories because it's all complicated family is complicated and its messy and it's big and everyone in your family might not have even met but it's family and it doesn't end in blood and for some people it never started there either.

Rick describing Thalia in Sea of Monsters as "somewhere between a punk and a goth" (plus every subsequent time he uses "emo" and "goth" interchangeably to describe Nico, and that one time Percy describes his ideal self as punk) tells me Rick has no idea what music/fashion subculture terminology is.

im like 90% sure he thinks "goth" and "emo" are the same thing. He's literally just describing emo/punk here. there is nothing here that screams "goth." this was 2006. sir.

having seen at least the rough outlines of all the romances now I have to say that I think emmrich's is probably objectively the best in terms of coherence and completeness of story arc (with the understanding that ultimately the 'best' romance is whichever one makes YOUR heart sing anyway so objectivity is a silly thing to claim that way, it just felt like it's the arc with the most well-paced focused content and the least dangling threads)... but lucanis' is my favourite haha. just. the whole kneeling before your beloved full of reverence but without any of the distance that usually implies??? his complete undramatic certainty and calm in every scene with rook after this, having spent the whole game caught between fear and longing???? mr. lives in a pantry but it says nothing about my psyche don't worry about it it's purely for tactical reasons that I keep myself contained in a small dark room not entirely unlike a cell, love among the parsnips -- finally coming to rook in their room and it's so comfortable and comforting???? after all the times rook supports and comforts him through the game he's finally able to return the same to them when they need it while being so calm and steady and it's so fucking sweet and feels so effortless and with no price attached?????? he basically assigns himself the role of your bodyguard and he WILL stab a god over it??????????????? the turn to protector (which was in his heart all along longing to get out and find a place) of it all????? he sounds like he's found himself unexpectedly stumbling into such a soul-lightening state of revelatory existential relief, full on 'you only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves' mary oliver style, and he goes and he shares that with rook and protectively envelops them in it when they're hurting??????????????????????????? hello for the maker's sake hello can anyone hear me?????

Initial drawings of that old man… I literally, I haven’t finished reading the book of bill yet!!! I had to stop and take a break for a week to feverishly draw fanart of myself petting fords floofy hair and giving him attention and shit…!!!! The urge was too great….!! I’ve literally. Next time Shanks, as they are drinking, jokingly brings up the idea that Mihawk should probably make his own wine since he’s gone full farmer core and Mihawk, almost combusting in shame, attempts to drown him with alcohol to avoide the question

Look listen Yugi has always been goth even as a child and he grew up with an egyptologist grandfather that had quiiiiiite a few sleazy connections [seriously Sugoroku has such a "two steps away from becoming the villain" backstory it's incredibly funny] who probably joked a lot about cursed objects and the like there's No Fucking Way he didn't consider the possibility that the Ancient Egyptian Puzzle he was solving might be cursed - if anything I think that just fueled him more. You think this kid hasn't read dark gothic romances that end in tragedy and/or deal with romancing ghosts? As if

The only reason YGO is a shounen adventure and not a shoujo romance is because of all the outside forces blocking him from achieving his final goth form: Guy Who Is Dating A Ghost
