i think its a fairly common trope in tf2 fic for scout to avoid smoking and sometimes alcohol as well bc he's the one member of the team who really needs to not have shitty lungs, but im afraid im a terrible 'scout tf2 smokes like hell' truther. based entirely on the fact bc he had a lighter on him in expiration date. he probably started when he was like 12 bc all his brothers did, then carried on bc he thought it looked cool and now does it to help w nerves. easily chainsmokes worse than spy on bad days. i mean it was the 60s and he has an addictive personality and unmedicated adhd. a bit of an interesting one, if dentists exist in the pmd universe, how would the characters of TPiaG react to having to go to the dentist?

(this ask may or may not have been inspired by me recently getting my wisdom teeth removed 🥲)

I’m not sure if they have a specialized field for dentistry in the PMD-verse I’ve set up, but doctors definitely have at least basic oral care and treatments as something they need to know. We’re gonna run on the idea that there are specialized dentists for this post, though!

Kip isn’t very nervous about going to the dentist. He just lies back and spends the appointment thinking about obscure historic subjects. He’s actually fallen asleep during a couple visits.

Twig, meanwhile, does NOT handle strangers being up close and personal with her very well WHATSOEVER. She’s focusing on breathing and nothing else. There are no returns of the dentist’s attempts at conversation. She’s just trying to survive this appointment and not be sick during it.

Grovyle isn’t much better than Twig. He’s able to indicate answers to questions when asked, but he’s just trying to get in and out. Ask not if he is in pain— for he will only tell you to work faster so he can be home sooner.

Celebi is immune to needing dentist visits because she just restores her body to a previous state whenever it gets a little less than tiptop operating condition. She taunts those who are less fortunate with this information.

Dusknoir and Ark’s mouths don’t work like that, and we can thank our lucky stars for this. In a Modern Human AU, I can see Dusknoir having never had a cavity.

oh boy so I've had to deal with more stuff in terms of booking this fucking dental surgery and unless someone cancels their surgery, we're gonna have to wait until early August, which on the one hand gives me longer to get stuff together to pay for it, but on the other hand means I'm stuck dealing with the pain for significantly longer

That Affect He Has (and part of how he copes with it)

The effect flat affect has on Ron's ability to express his emotions facially and vocally is quite profound. No matter where or when he's found in writing it'll be there, though time's passing - and access to better support and understanding of his condition in modern settings - lets him learn to cope with and combat (with varying degrees of success) the most visible and audible signs of the struggles he has emoting. He'd loathe sitting for speech therapy -- it's too vulnerable a thing, even in modern times, for him to stomach. But the one session he'd attend before jacking it in would yield an interesting suggestion that would stick.

"You like music, right Ron?"

"--Yeah."

"So sing along."

And he would. Invariably it'd be when he was alone - so that vulnerable bit weren't exposed, right? - but he'd work himself up from mouthing along to getting some voice along with it and while there'd be no revelation of intense vocal talent there...it'd help. For all he struggles with keeping track of his own tone and pitch, he can hear it in others when they're singing. And he can mimic. And he can learn through mimicry what the right notes sound and feel like as he picks up spits and spats of melody and purrs along low in his chest.

Another thing that’s happening is I keep getting really bad pain and sensitivity in my tooth where I just recently got a filling and I know the dentist will fix it for free (they pretty much fucked it up after all) but I so badly don’t want to go back there again

That Captain America Healing Factor is all well and good until someone on the team has to pin Steve down and re-break his arm because they didn’t splint it in time and it healed wrong. Until they have to dig a knife into his face and pull out glass fragments that his skin healed over in five minutes flat. Until he has to have surgery wide awake because no anaesthetic works and the only other option is a leather belt between his teeth and useless platitudes like its going to be okay Steve, I promise, it’ll be over soon.
