I feel like most of my problems with the characters of Lance and Hunk is that Lance got a lot of a little, and Hunk got a little of a lot.
#like Lance is a really important character in the early seasons but we learn nothing about h#*him#like he has a fun flirty personality and a dumb rivalry with Keith and then like nothing#he’s homesick in that one season 1 episode and then it’s never mentioned again#he feels like a seventh wheel without a ‘thing’ in Escape From Beta Traz and then it’s solved with 1 shitty compliment#he’s so insecure about his place in Voltron he feels like he should just leave to make it easier for everyone else (will never mention this#big character moment again)#and he feels so expendable he literally DIES and it’s glossed over like wth#and Hunk is just ignored except for like the Season 1/2 Balmera episodes and Omega Shield but we learn so much about him#and he’s just perfect in whatever scene he is#super nice and snarky and snide all at the same time but like tormented by impostor syndrome and anxiety#like there’s SO MUCH there and he just gets nothing#idk if this makes sense but I’m just really upset about it#voltron#lance#Hunk#voltron salt#voltron critical#lance voltron#Hunk Voltron

We finally got a Thor mention and hints of Loki being homesick in episode 3. Mobius and Loki are at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair when they see the Norse exhibit that has 3 carved wooden pillars of Balder, Odin, and Thor.
Mobius: "Does it make you homesick?"
Loki: "No. It’s completely inaccurate, first of all."
Mobius: "What, you don’t think that looks like Odin?"
Loki: "It’s embarrassing. It’s a crass generalization. I mean, you can’t reduce an entire culture down to a simple diorama. Such poverty of imagination."
Mobius: "Is somebody feeling a little left out that they’re not up there?"
Loki: "No. And why’d they include Balder? No one’s even heard of him."
Mobius: "Sure they have. Balder the Brave. You know, sometimes I forget that you’re one of them. You are one of them. Blows my mind." (walks away)
Loki: (lingers behind, looking somberly at Thor's carving) "... Thor’s not that tall."
First off, "You know, sometimes I forget that you’re one of them." Uh huh. That you, Loki writers?
Secondly, "You are one of them." After Thor 1, I wonder how hearing that makes Loki feel?
Wow, there's a lot to unpack there. First off, I was curious so I googled:
Mobius is asking Loki if he feels homesick after the TVA took him from his timeline, kidnapped him and forced him away from his family, and Mobius himself told him to his face he could never go back? After Mobius admitted in S1 that Lokis are the variants the TVA kidnapped the most? He's asking him if he's homesick? Is that a joke?
Then, Balder? Seriously? What's the point of the name-drop? Unless he shows up in future eps, it makes no sense. He was never part of the Thor movies or Loki's story. If Loki had taken the opportunity to share some story related to him and Balder then cool, but if it's just a name-drop then... meh.
That line about it being a "generalization" or "reducing an entire culture"... uh, Asgard was full of statues. Loki had a statue of himself built post-TDW (okay, not this Loki so.. fair). But I don't understand Loki's line there. How is a statue 'poverty of imagination'? It's such an ignorant thing to say. It's not even funny either. So either I'm missing something... or that line is nonsensical.
Mobius reply that Loki feels "left out". Cool, make a joke about Loki's feelings of inadequacy on Asgard. Feelings that were perfectly understandable and accurate despite whatever Marvel tries to claim these days. Loki is a Prince. Same as Thor. Not the firstborn, not Asgardian, but a Prince nonetheless. We saw in Thor1 how everyone around him treated him as lesser, so to have Mobius say this to his face (this Loki is what... two years post-Thor 1? So not that long ago this guy tried to kill himself for the fact that he felt like he didn't belong) and for Loki to not get mad at it? Again, makes no sense. And it's such a bad line for his series. He doesn't even get the narrative on his side on his damn series.
"You are one of them". Was. Well, he never was. But still. He used to be one of them and he would have had a life with them if the TVA hadn't intervened. If Mobius was truly trying to be sympathetic how come he doesn't show any remorse? Any guilt? Does he at any point even think "damn, this is his family and he won't ever see them again because we kidnapped him from his timeline". Of course he doesn't.
I hate this season and I'm not even watching it.

Keeping Up A-Fear-ances
…LILITH WHY DID YOU HAVE TO LEEEEAAAVVVEEEEEEEE!!!!!
AUGH I hate this, but at the same time she really deserves it! Lilith deserves to have some alone time with her mother, to actually be appreciated and loved by her, and… GWEN IS ACTUALLY TRYING TO MAKE UP FOR THAT?!
Dang, Gwen wasn’t as bad as we thought, but she was still terrible because… Again, just look at poor Lilith, look at how Gwen didn’t even care about Lilith! And the way Lilith talks about the neglect, it was always a thing prior to the curse…
Also, the curse! It has a form, and it’s making Eda become more like it…? We see it outside in the Owl House in the Season 2 trailer, so either Eda somehow managed to expel it from her body entirely… OR, it manages to completely take over?! What is that thing, this reminds me of that old idea I had of the curse having stages as it transforms its host into a specific form- I guess I really WAS right, after all?!
That Healer mentioned that he’d never seen anything like it… Was it made by Belos? Did the scroll actually contain some sort of demonic spirit, and it’s using hosts as a means of physically incarnating into the world?! Will it take over Eda, or will we see a flashback of this creature before it was sealed into a scroll and lost its physical body, and get more backstory on the Owl House after all!
BEAST LILITH! She looks a bit like a crow, but also kind of a bat, which is a neat nod to the show’s original pilot… Oh my POOR LILITH! And YES I love that Lilith and King finally got that one-on-one interaction where they sort of bonded over parental abandonment, oh Lily you and your projecting onto poor King, he’s just a kid… But imagine if she WAS right, that’d be messed up? I love the theme of parents here and how King isn’t left out… His role here is brief yet supportive and really culminative of his own experiences that resonate!
HOOTY! RIP Hooty, no more Lulu, he can’t even hold a pen! Also that confirms it’s definitely not him who wrote the letters, because…
CREEPY LUZ?! CREEPY LUZ REAL!? Was Dana just lying to us after all!? Really recontextualizes how she said that Doppelganger Luz wasn’t out of the possibility, even if she wouldn’t confirm it either… I love that pic of feral young Luz, and I predicted that Camila would just be crying over a soap opera or something… BUT DOPPELGANGER LUZ WHAT THE HELL!?!?
Just… I’m disturbed, but not gonna lie I’m reminded of my Lus Noceda meta and ideas, the concept of Luz getting a twin sister by rather unconventional but ultimately Found Family means, and this’d be neat! However, the fact that Luz is already ‘back’, did camp end and Luz lost track of time? Or did ‘Lus’ simply come back home with an alibi of the camp ending early- She may have been there this whole time, and her ‘good behavior’ led to her getting released early!
I’m kind of scared… I’m hoping Lus ends up being a friend, but honestly, who can tell?! Especially because A HUMAN MALE WAS ON THE ISLES BEFORE!!!
It’s Belos? The human is Belos, wasn’t it? Gwen said her Great-Grandmother heard of this human, and we know that witches age like humans, so… That is a LONG time ago, and that of course further confirms the idea that Belos is ancient, and the ‘human’ shown in Eda’s little story from Episode 1. Did HE use the portal to arrive on the Boiling Isles, and then he buried it because he never wanted to go back home???
So it’s interesting that he’s now trying to get it back… What for, is he secretly just homesick? Is there something involving the Portal creating doppelgangers from humans, and he wants to meet his? It’d probably be dead, but then who knows if it ages like an actual human?!
Also, that lead-up to Through the Looking Glass Ruins, the forbidden section of the library and Lumity! They’ll be looking for information on ‘Titan’s Blood’, which can apparently cause rifts. Assuming Belos didn’t use the portal or not, is this what he’s planning to do- Does the Portal run on a huge amount of potent Titan’s Blood, and he’s going to repair and drain it dry??? IS HE GOING TO RESURRECT THE TITAN!?!
We see in that one shot from the trailer that a tube is hooked up to the portal, filled with green liquid- Maybe Belos isn’t injecting stuff INTO the portal… But extracting it OUT! Is the Portal a powerful creation fueled by Titan’s Blood, who knows- And I guess Titan’s blood has the power to create rifts in space, huh? Is the Titan some sort of extra-dimensional traveler?!
Could this again relate to the idea of a solar system glyph, is Belos trying to access another world where the Titan came from, or was the Titan and its species just magical, and he’s trying to resurrect it?! THANK YOU SO MUCH GWEN for this precious information, this is A HUGE LORE DUMP-
Also if Titan’s Blood can exist as a separate substance from the Portal, who knows? That could explain how Amity gets her Good Witch Azura books… And it could open the idea of Belos having made the doppelganger, maybe it’s the Golden Guard in disguise, or the head of the Illusion Coven! Or Kikimora, or just a straight-up Homunculus he made… Which again adds to the idea of the Golden Guard having Eda DNA in him.
This could confirm that Belos isn’t looking for access to the human realm necessarily, but something special about the Portal- Otherwise he could’ve used any regular Titan’s Blood. Since the Portal is such a consistent device, could its store of Titan’s Blood far outweight the cost of any Titan’s Blood that Belos uses up, in order to access the human world for clues? Possibly for leverage against Luz, in case she’s important later down the line?! Is he taking interest as a fellow human!?
Of course, if Belos WAS human- How does this fit with him being the monster that King’s father fought?! Did he dose up on Titan’s Blood, and it made him into some sort of… Proto Titan, and he needs more to perfect the transformation? Was he a human who applied the same magic that created Jean-Luc’s, but applied it to his OWN flesh!?
Also, dang… I can’t believe Gwen is an Anti-Vaxxer! Seriously though, this whole episode was a metaphor for alternative medicine, and ‘Wartlop’ reminds me of a certain person who demonized vaccines for money… And the Anti-Vaxxer movement is also rooted in ableism, how parents would rather have a dead child than one that is autistic! So that adds to the symbolism of Eda feeling hurt and ashamed of her curse…
Especially since Gwen treated her disability as something she just COULDN’T live with, that she’d aggravate the situation to get it out, rather than be content with the elixirs- And just UGH I love the rep with how Eda felt ashamed of her curse, and how Gwen learns to respect and abide by it. She recognizes that she made Eda feel like a freak and less of a person for it, and that just complicated things, especially if Eda felt like Gwen didn’t accept the person she’d became…
Again, like how anti-vaxxer moms want to remove the ‘disability’ at any cost, they see their kid as ONLY their disability to cure, as some problem to be solved. And it’s just complicated because Eda knows she has to live with it, but Gwen keeps insisting that she can’t stand that…!
Gwen… You still sucked as a parent, but WOW you’re actually trying to improve?! You recognized where you went wrong, and Lilith felt safe enough to confess about the curse, I… THAT SCENE where Lilith was practically sobbing, this poor girl! The little kid she once was, neglected and yearning for parental love, she’s finally coming out and being paid attention to! I hope Gwen and Mr. Clawthorne can help Lilith, maybe her regression coping can finally culminate in recovery as she gets a sort of re-do on the childhood she never got.
Also DANG Lilith sounded drunk with that ice cream, and Eda I’m pretty sure just confirmed that ‘Momma’s Night Juice’ is Apple Blood… I can’t believe that it’s finally come to fruition, that HOOTY of all people has now taken his turn with the brain cell to show actual concern towards others?! And be the reasonable voice, the world really IS ending…
Does Lilith have a Curse Beast in HER psyche?! Does it look different than Eda’s, does it depend on the host, is this thing now multiplying, reproducing?! That gate where Eda found the portal, it reminds me of that painting of the ‘Owl Tower’, so this could hint at the portal being found near the abandoned site that’d become the Owl House and be repurposed… Poor Eda, she had to run away, and GOD Young Eda being scared! But at least we get some closure on Young Eda past that painful flashback, being taken care of…
Also JEEZ Gwen joined the Beastkeeping Coven to heal the curse?! So she was a wild witch beforehand, huh… Given how she lived a good portion of her life before Belos came into play, that makes sense, and I’m SUPER intrigued about Mr. Clawthorne now! Also with all of these mentions of the Potions, Healing, and Beastkeeping Coven, I was hoping we’d get a cameo of their respective heads, I wonder if Gwen talked to them of the curse, if they knew anything, if there IS a connection to Belos…
I dunno about you Gwen, but as someone who’s autistic- I’d have straight-up murdered ‘Wartlop’, you’re very nice and merciful! All in all, this was a fascinating episode, with HUGE lore implications, and much-needed confirmation and context for Eda and Lilith! I hope we get to see more of their childhood and more of Gwen… Is there any particular reason for Gwen ignoring Lilith? She’s terrible but she’s actually making reparations and admitting her own fault, and THAT I have to give her! Most old people would be too stuck in their own ways to change, say it’s too far gone to try or begin anew, but her and Lilith are…!
That’s a very hopeful message. All in all a WONDERFUL episode- And also, Morton cameo! Jeez Morton you can’t take an IOU from Luz, nor appreciate a commission? Did Luz draw that on the way to his shop or did she make it beforehand as an art practice, and then realized its potential but ultimately unfulfilled usage as payment? Either way I LOVE YOU LUZ and your commissions, I’D accept them as payment! And I love her hyper-realistic portraits, like we saw with Bump in Escaping Expulsion!

The role of Roleplay in Steven Universe: Part 2
Link to part 1: https://zofia-asilo.tumblr.com/post/664217707689984000/the-role-of-roleplay-in-steven-universe-part-1
Remember I mentioned Amethyst’s age difference and her self-loathing? We get roleplay, reconciliation, and gem history all in one when Amethyst takes Steven “On the Run” in Season 1 Episode 40.
While previous episodes established a dichotomy between the Crystal Gems and “Homeworld Gems”, at the beginning of this episode Pearl explains that long ago, Gemkind did something bad to Earth that the Crystal Gems put a stop to. Amethyst notably looks hurt when Pearl says this. Homeworld was driven away until “Warp Tour”, but with the price of the Crystal Gems never being able to return home. Steven ends up setting things up for another roleplay when he makes a comparison to a book series he’s reading, the No Home Boys (think Hardy Boys but they are also classic hobos). Similar to her initial disdain for Purple Puma, Pearl scoffs at the comparison and points out they are standing in their home. However, Amethyst perks up and suggests Steven secretly roleplay with her.
In the montage that follows, as Steven packs two bindle sticks and the two youngest Crystal Gems hit the road, we get our first duet between Steven and Amethyst. (A clip can be watched here https://youtu.be/eH3Q_vXkMIo on the official Youtube channel.)
(Now how do I position this video preview correctly)
youtube
Some revealing lyrics from Amethyst at the end of the song express her hurt at what Pearl and Garnet said at the beginning of the episode, as well as her feelings of not being at home in the Crystal Temple.
Steven actually joins in when Amethyst concludes with “home is just a place I’ve never known.” As the only gem-human hybrid ever to exist, Steven can feel pretty isolated too. This is also an important part of the roleplay: Amethyst and Steven each have a house, but unlike what Pearl thinks, ‘home’ can be a feeling instead of a literal place.
Steven decides to stop the roleplay once he discovers the discomforts of no food (he lost it due to hijinks) and having to sleep on scratchy hay aboard a clackety train car. The episode is able to move forward anyway because Amethyst explains this is more than just a fun little romp for her; not only does the temple not feel like home, but the train happens to be passing by her birthplace.
The Kindergarten is a bleak, lifeless purple canyon riddled with holes, where thousands of newborn gems had burst out of the walls like bacteriophages from an infected cell. Homeworld extracted life from the earth to bring more gems into being in a very orderly and scheduled process, but when the Crystal Gems drove them away the Kindergarten was left abandoned. Amethyst emerged from the ground late, and spent an unspecified amount of time all alone with no one to raise her until Rose, Pearl, and Garnet found and adopted her.
Amethyst has nuanced feelings about the Kindergarten, feeling homesickness for it while also knowing its very existence was killing life on Earth. Her pain from earlier, her internalized self-loathing, comes from identifying with her birthplace and feeling she can never be seen as more than the gem who came from there. Pearl is able to clear things up and hug it out at the end when she follows Steven and Amethyst to the Kindergarten by teleportation (more convenient, but would we have half the revelations and development in this episode if Amethyst just used a gem teleporter?) Although there is a fight once again, Amethyst soon breaks down in tears and delivers a heartwrenching line: “I never asked for it to be this way! I never asked to be MADE!”
(There is a LOT of unplanned child subtext in here, and it may come back up in a later post.)
Pearl realizes what she’s been doing wrong, after talking down so much about the Kindergarten without considering that Amethyst might feel Pearl is talking about her too. Finally, Pearl is able to show Amethyst she truly cares, and the two hug it out.
Amethyst is able to give her deep-rooted pain a voice and tearfully reconcile with Pearl, thanks to roleplaying interacting with the plot of this episode.
Well that sure was a rollercoaster, from roleplaying to terrifying Homeworld history, a heartbreaking fight and Amethyst weeping over the deep shame of her origins, and finally forgiveness. Still, roleplay served as an ingenious vehicle on the part of the writers to help this episode along. And that drives home another two ways that roleplay is used in this show:
1. When you have bottled-up, deep-rooted, ongoing negative feelings that gnaw at you, roleplaying can be a release.
2. Roleplay can help you express emotions that you know seem contrary to your current lived experience, and help you express other sides of yourself without having to clash with other equally valid feelings.
These lessons will come back up later, although the resolution won’t happen as quickly. That’s all I have for part 2.

Voltron Rewritten Defender (1/8)
Also known as My Almost Raging Bitch List for this Goddamn Disastrous Disappointment of a Show
I binged all 8 seasons in under a week, so believe me when I say almost nothing was forgotten between seasons/episodes and I do tend to note that.
If it’s not obvious by the title, I’m planning an entire show AU. I am extremely open to people’s opinions on what I’m currently thinking and when I finally post this I’ll be open to criticism there too. If you would like to avoid seeing anything in regards to this feel free to blacklist #voltron_rewritten_defender because that’s what I’ll be using for this whole thing.
Enjoy, I guess.
Fair warning I am a multishipper, but for this show I leaned towards Klance, so if that bothers you that’s okay, I’m not going to be bashing any other ships (mainly just Dreamworks’ forced Allurance). If you think I missed something for any other ship lemme know! If you wanna have a ship discussion that’s cool too. The only other thing I can think of is that Allura’s attitude in S8 really stuck with me to the point that she bothered me throughout the entire rewatch (I was admittedly one of the people who thought she could be very Mary Sue ish when I first watched this) so that’ll show up now and again.
If you want to look at the Google Doc for the whole show, click the link, if not you can expand this post to see Season 1. I’ll be doing these in chunks, but as some of you know I do a FicRecList on one of my other accounts here @sorcerusdragonbionics so I’m gonna be alternating between that and these for the next couple days.
If you do the Google Route it’ll have you ask me for permission, this is normal and if you request it I’ll give you commenting abilities.

Key
Things I kinda wanna bitch about
Things I did genuinely enjoy and like
Rewatch Thoughts (basically what I remember from further forward and how I feel like it reflects back on earlier seasons)
Ship Talk (behold my multishipping insanity)
Things I think I’ll do in the Rewrite
Writing Notes (mainly for me or as explanation for what I’m planning)
VA and Closed Captioning Things
Other Fic Thoughts
This ended up being music commentary in S8
Season One
Problems with the Season overall:
To be honest if I hated this season I wouldn’t’ve kept watching because by the time I started S3 had just dropped
Episode 1
Here’s the deal, WHY ARE YOU SO LONG BUT SO EMPTY?!?
Yeah, nope, that’s mostly it
Fix the problem of telling instead of showing about the other Lions and remove Allura’s explanation of the Lions if possible (thank you Kross for explaining why it felt so empty- this vid is actually where I started getting the idea to actually go through with a full series AU)
DON'T RUSH THE LION INTROS
Also let the 5 introduce themselves to Allura and Coran
Also Character Drive to Complete Mission Should Be A Thing
Flesh out Paladin Personalities so that the Aris Arrival is End of Part One (making it closer to the length of E1)
Flesh out Lion intros so part 2+3 are more like full Eps without Sendak
Episode 2
75 degrees… that’s definitely in Fahrenheit, which why?
How does no one have a watch with a date on them?
“A man can be driven to do anything if a beautiful woman is just really really mean to him”
More inbetween scenes bc I can
I will accept the transformation sequence here, I’m just not going to write it
Episode 3
Please watch the use of Earth Time Slices please, because it’s confusing
I love the portrayal of PTSD in this show and I would die before I change it
Bye bye transformation sequence
Pidge’s talk with Shiro can please change
Episode 4
“I say Vol, you say Tron” will come up again if it kills me
Lance, how do you know what hotdog water and feet taste like?
I love how Coran is completely nonchalant about the fact that he’s drinking a hair tonic
Shiro, don’t bring down the mood
Goddammit Sendak, you could stay for this arc, but god I want you GONE!
Keith, having an emotion? Really?
The Pidge plot DID NOT NEED TO HAPPEN LIKE THAT!
Fight me I will change it
Or minimally change the fact that their selfish motivations are revealed to BAD and should be changed
Oh yeah, let’s not give the ONE GUY with notable homesickness a character arc around that
That moment when you realize Allura is like ‘wtf is a peanut’
Allura, don’t push it, some people don’t want to talk about it
You will have something to talk about, BIOLOGY
Decryption happens here, and next attempt to find family occurs… when?
Poor Coran, if there is anyone who was more forgotten than Lance it was him
Keith isn’t wrong, but he also doesn’t know how to say it without getting mad, which mood
Just pointing out Lance is not only smart, but selfless, tell me how he’s not the main character
My inner Shance/Klance shipper is sobbing
“Bomb fuel” mentioned here, occurs… actually it’s ok
Timelines need to be a thing!
Can I make the fight scenes more intense? Yes, I write them for my YJ Scripts. Will I? Almost definitely.
Keith with that much fire your mask should be closed because smoke inhalation is bad
Can we explain Vrepit Sa before s6?
It feels like Coran forgets that 10k years have passed under an evil empire and part of me likes it, but it hurts me
Episode 5
The Katie flashback is hurts me
I want to add Gender Identity
Can we talk about how Shiro is a nickname for Takashi Shirogane?
That’s not how an EMP works
The Coran sitting on Hunk’s shoulders with a machine gun is everything
I know the back x-ray was a joke, but I still don’t like it
Rax is an idiot, just saying
Bonding Moment!!!
Episode 6
“Intergalactic time measuring competition.”
“We had a bonding moment!”
Where is Sendak’s arm?
Fight me, Pidge’s ‘gender speech’
It will be a gender speech if it kills me
Lance, why are you acting the way you are?
“I figured” and “We were supposed to think you were a boy” ARE NOT PROPER REACTIONS!
Rolo, sometimes I want to punch you in the teeth
Lance’s boner is going to get someone killed
Lance had 4sec of logic and then Nyma brings up Keith, which ofc does him in
Let’s expand on the Komar, yeah?
Quiznack means fuck and NO ONE can tell me otherwise
Keith’s ability to fly is impressive and it’s awesome
Friendly reminder that Lance acknowledged the bonding moment
Episode 7
I LOVE the laser gun sound effects!!!
I just realized that Allura has no clue what an Acronym is
We… literally just talked about this and YOU didn’t know that Shiro, I understand the point, but seriously?
LIONS are TELEPATHIC Shiro DID NOT need to say that aloud!
I do actually like the fact that Kieth gets excited before realizing what he did
FIRE and ICE PEOPLE come on! What the hell?! You barely had to try
“Yes sir?” Keith to Shiro, what?
I love them and their cute little arguments
Left vs Right, thank you Zamber
We be lovin’ Hunay bc it’s pure as hell
Thank you Shiro for validating Hunk’s concerns
You could check a little faster, Allura
I LIVE for this scene
Was it actually Rolo?
Do they have teleporters?
Keith being weird is my favorite thing
I love good big bros who argue tradition to save their baby sis
Zarkon is a bit of a moron
THEIR LIVES ARE IN DANGER ALLURA!
They all came through different doors… how?
What if the answer was no?
I’m ok with Lance embarrassing himself when he’s cocky, some people seem to forget that
Bye transformation sequence, I explained you ONCE and that’s it
Prorock… why are you familiar?
Episode 8
I admittedly forgot that they didn’t know these things would be different
Flying fight scenes I can do, teleporting not so much
Poor Shiro he thought he had an idea and he was wrong
I love Coran’s reaction
Also NO SHIT Allura
UHHHH Pidge said that not and of the other three so how did He know?
Allura may piss me off, but I do love this speech
“Your Altean Energy”??? Coran, you’re an Altean, I’m confused.
The “Sacred Altean” thing I get, but you must be more specific cuz it makes Coran sound like he thinks he’s not a proper Altean.
Oof, angsty
Also, I know we can’t kill Allura yet, but...
I love that Hunk forgot they hadn’t formed Voltron
Bye bye transformation sequence
Ummm, they NEED to explain the Bayard Equip bc that’s… two very different things that occurred between Hunk and Keith’s Bayard Weapons
Why is this a scene? It’s not a dog. So, yeah, I’m with Keith here
Episode 9
THIS IS NOT HEALTHY ALLURA!
I just realized that this doesn’t come back until S..7? 8? Whatever, WAY too long
I can’t unhear “Training Dick”
Did they have homework on Altea?
Be still my Punk shipper heart
WHY is he SO pretty?!
Y’know, the glowing red eye is usually a bad sign
I could SO mean and hurt Keith here
That moment when you’re like 90% sure Shiro heard that somewhere
Not what haunted means Coran, but accurate
Why could Lance see Alfor for a second?
I too would like the answer to “where was the Red Lion?”
PTSD IS AMAZINGLY WRITTEN!
It’s a shame this is NEVER treated properly again
Thank you for NOT making the swimming thing a thing
You didn’t need to TRY Voltron, what the hell?!
Here’s the deal, Altea not being Obliterated-obliterated is actually a really interesting idea
Lance still wins, for the record
If she was infected in any way this wouldn’t drive me crazier than a bot on Halloween
But she’s not so this is BULL
Shallura confuses me SO much…
Ok, admittedly the scene with Allura and Alfor is beautifully heartbreaking
Episode 10
The fact that Zarkon was a close friend to Alfor should be addressed
Also Shiro calling himself “an inexperienced Pilot” hurts
Allura’s a MORON!
YES! MASSIVE ISSUE WITH YOU COMING
Nice puppetry Hunk
What happened to THIS Allura?! She’s reckless but not INSANE (or so boring I might cry)!
Is this the same Druid from Season 8? Pretty sure it’s 8… I forget which, but the one Keith fought
“Don’t walk through that door!” / Keith does/ “I think I told him” // “You are a paragon of leadership, Lance”
Hehheh I love Hunk teasing Lance about Allura
I do actually the fact that I can’t tell what size the purple container is until Keith grabs it
Heheh the Allura interacting with the Galra soldier
The computer sounds like Lance
Also Shiro had that “holy shit” moment
I HATE WRITING TELELPORTING FIGHTS
I’m 99% sure that the ONLY reason I didn’t fall into the Galra Keith rabbit hole was the fact that I binge watched
This scene confuses me… so much now that I know Shallura was apparently never going to be a thing
So confused
Episode 11
That hair flip though...
Coran, I get it, but calm down
Okay, but Keith has a point. Seriously, he’s not wrong.
For the record, Haggar scares me
So much makes so much more sense now that we know Zarkon is the Original Black Paladin
That… makes no sense… “enough essence to open a wormhole”
Why are you transforming? More pieces to shoot at is usually a smart idea…
Hey hey, THACE!
Why can’t you have two active at once? I’m honestly serious.
I mean too OP, got it, but you can maneuver around that for temporary stuff
Shiro, use your words, yeah?
“Thinking” uh huh you mean “telepathy” right?
I genuinely forgot that Shiro got booted from Black
Damn! Yes Shiro! Kick some ass!
Ok, here’s the deal, Keith’s not listening to Coran, but he doesn’t have all the info (LIKE THE FUCKING BAYARD), Zarkon’s the OG Paladin, and he’s in distress
I HATE TELEPORTERS!
“Could have been” … uh Kuron exists ??
Also, Shiro with yellow eyes is fucking terrifying
We ain’t ficking stupid VLD
Zarkon’s a fucking idiot
Written properly his power-hungry attitude works even with him destroying his own ship
But it wasn’t so it’s null
You aren’t even subtle about Galra Keith
How can Allura see through Illusions?
Nobody knows!
Shiro, you have no jetpack, how are you so fast?
“Who cares, wormhole!” mood
I… uh… I want to do SO many things with this idea
Preferably not what they actually do...

Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash Star Episodes 1-13
No, you're not having a Deja-vu, it is Splash Star again in this blog!
A bit later than it was supposed to be, I'm finally here to talk about Splash Star! If you used to read my blog in the beginning you know I have a very complicated history with Splash Star and I never got to actually finish it, so I'm very excited for these reviews.
I know I already covered this same period of the show before, but those were more episode focused when this is more of a general overview of things, I may eventually sound a bit repetitive but please stick with me. XD
Splash Star had huuuuge shoes to fill considering how strong its predecessor was and this kind of pressure works both against and in favor of the show. For these 13 episodes, you can basically see the show follows a very similar structure from Season 1 of Futari wa which is tricky because you see plots here that were already explored by the original show and it has times where it feels way too similar. Like for example, we had an episode in the countryside where they helped a local farmer, there was an episode where they had to retrieve a magical item because the fairies couldn't hold a crystallized form of magic, we had our main duo having an argument, an episode where the pink disregards the needs of her fairy partner, and an episode for a fairy getting homesick. These were all plots that were already present in S1, and while this doesn't make the episodes any better or worse, it still feels kinda repetitive.
We can also see the similarities with their transformation devices that are basically the card communes but that this time you gotta use two cards in the shape of a diamond for everything instead of one normal card. The villains also seem to follow the same pattern as the Dark Zone in the beginning. But I think the biggest similarity goes to how Saki and Mai, at a first glance, share the dynamics and archetypes as Nagisa and Honoka respectively. And especially seeing this show right after watching Max Heart, that already had recycled plotlines from the original, it gets times where they lose my interest right at the beginning of an episode because I have in my mind that I already know how the story in that episode is going to play out.
But is also because the structure is more or less the same that they managed to construct the story in a very well-paced way, a thing that S1 kinda lacked for the same portion of episodes. And even though they share similarities, Splash Star approaches these same plots in different ways that made for a very interest watch because in each time an episode had put my interest down right from the beginning they would slowly owning me back and I always finished the episodes feeling great about them.
Like I mentioned, Saki and Mai look at lot like Nagisa and Honoka, but when you look better at it you can see the differences between the two teams. One thing that I like here is how they already met years before becoming precure and was because of that meeting that they eventually became the legendary warriors, it already sets them as different right from the beginning and it's a very cool plot element. Now I gotta be honest, aside of doing softball instead of lacrosse, Saki doesn't really feel that much different from Nagisa, she's cheerful, she's athletic, she loves to eat, and she doesn't go well on school, she bickers a lot with her younger sibling, they have a crush on an older boy, things like that. If I had to say something that they're definitely different on is how Saki seems way more optimistic which I appreciate. Now, Mai is definitely different from Honoka. Yeah, she's still the more quiet, reserved, and maybe smart of the team, but she feels quite different, I feel like she's more open to the world because of her love for drawing but that's also one thing that keeps her closed to herself because when she concentrates too much on a drawing she focuses so much she lost perception of her surroundings, I know it's not a lot but it helps to make her stand out. Another thing that is great is how their friendship works on a different way, like in the second episode they were already calling each other by their first name, and when they had a fight not only the reasoning for it to happen was better but also the reconciliation was very different because it was easier for them to come to an understanding.
The fairies also share the same trait as the protagonists, when you look at it they will look like just a copy of Mepple and Mipple (especially when their little romance comes to picture), but they are very different, they have actual personality and are very likable characters. I feel like they based a lot of their dynamic in the OG fairies, but they constructed Flappy and Choppy as more relatable characters which makes it easier to sympathize with them. I love the little combo of episodes they had before the end of Moerumba's ark, Flappy's episode is kinda a retelling of the episode where Mepple gets sick, but this episode does a way better job at it because Flappy is not a jerk so when Saki blatantly accuses him you actually feel sorry for the little guy, also seeing them worried with each other afterward feels more emotional because their relationship isn't as toxic. And I really felt for Choppy on her homesick episode because she's very sweet and the fact she tries her best to hide her emotions to not worry Mai is also very pure.
Another thing that is also very different is the villains that also got way more personality than any villain from both OG and Max Heart. Yeah, Akudaikan so far it's basically just the Dark King but without the horrible CGI (they saved that budget to use it for the Fairy Carafe), but all of his minions had something. I admit Karehan is a little bland, but Goyan is great, he's that old neighbor that wants to look like a good person to everyone in your street but that is also causing intrigues with gossip, he's basically the Lord Varys of the precure worlds. XD And Moerumba? The guy is just a lot of fun, he's probably very offensive to anyone with Spanish heritage but if I said I didn't laugh every time he went "Señorita!" I'd be lying.
Talking about the cures themselves I like both of them, I admit Bloom isn't the most aesthetically pleasing cure out there, but I love their dichotomy of being land and air, and gold and silver, I think is very fun to have "opposites" that still work well together. Their powers are also very interesting with focusing the powers of the spirits to a specific part of the body to enhance whatever ability you're needing, I just wish they had more opportunities to use it creatively because, much like the first season of Futari wa, the action isn't the greatest.
One other thing I really enjoys is the aesthetic decisions the show takes, the shots of the Land of Greenery are always very beautiful, they do the most gorgeous scenes during sunset, and in almost every episode we have shots where a frame will be stylized as if it was an actual drawing from a sketchbook and they're very pretty and always add a little extra to the episodes.
In conclusion, this first quarter of Splash Star is very divisive it has enough good things to be great but they haven't let go of Futari wa just yet which makes it harder for them to stand out in the crowd, I believe this will change soon and that's why I'm really excited to keep going and actually finish this season this time. Thank you for reading till this far, if you have anything else to add to the discussion please do in the comments, I'll talk to you all later on. Bye-bye~

I’ve been typing and retyping this over and over again for the past few days mostly just for fun bc I like organizing things but a few ppl on twitter wanted to see it, so. Here’s my reasoning for who Lance’s endgame romance is with! I tried to make it as short as possible to hold ppl’s attention while still hitting the key points but it’s still kinda long oops. It’s pretty much just eliminating characters one by one until we’re left with the only possible option which I’m sure everybody knows before even looking under the cut but that’s just because it makes too much sense to be a mystery at this point lol
Also this probably goes without saying but this DOES contain spoilers for season 6 so if you haven’t watched it yet, proceed with caution.
Alright. Leggo.
Ok first off, there are 3 things we know for sure:
Lance is the only one with a confirmed endgame romance
Said romance is slowburn
He’s going to get what he needs rather than what he wants
Because we know it’s slowburn, aka SLOW and subtle and long to build up to, it has to be someone on the team since they’re the only reoccurring characters that he would have any time to build any kind of relationship with.
Shiro, Coran, and Pidge are automatically out cuz they’re not in the same age group which leaves Hunk, Allura, and Keith
Hunk has been in a “relationship” w Shay since season 1 and it’s been mentioned SO often by the writers/VAs, so it’s not him. Which leaves Allura or Keith as the only possible endgames for Lance. This makes sense, seeing as how they actually share quite a lot of similarities.
So let’s look at the Three Big Points for why it can’t possibly be Allura.
Allura/Lance is not slowburn. The literal first words Lance said to Allura were flirting words and his crush on her was always a big part of his character. The crew consistently drills in the fact that he has a crush on her at every given opportunity. This doesn’t fit with what a slowburn romance is. Slowburn means subtlety, and Allura/Lance is NOT subtle. It’s far too obvious.
Allura has never once shown interest in him and every time he flirts with her she’s dismissive, rolling her eyes, even once saying she felt ill. In season 6, the mice straight up told her that Lance liked her and when she found out her face fell and she said “oh…he said that…?” That is not the reaction of someone who’s happy about this news. This point isn’t saying “they won’t be endgame because she didn’t like him at first”, but rather stressing the fact that Allura has had 6 seasons to reciprocate Lance’s feelings and she hasn’t ONCE shown any hint of interest. An interesting scene to note is in episode one of season 6, where Lance takes a hit for her and literally dies for a second before Allura brings him back to life with her magic. They share a moment where they smile very tenderly at each other, and then later on it cuts to a split-screen view of them in their lions, where it shows Allura with an easy, casual smile on her face, and Lance blushing and hugging himself with a very dreamy look on his face. If they were going to be the endgame, THIS would have been the point where Allura would start to realize her feelings for him, but the writers made sure to show that while Lance was replaying the moment over and over again in his head and hugging himself thinking about it, Allura immediately put her game face back on and continued with her life. There is no doubt that she loves him as a friend, but she isn’t into him romantically. If they were to have them get together it would be a stale “boy flirts w girl even tho she doesn’t like him, girl eventually falls in love w him anyway” romance and the writers aren’t THAT shitty.
Allura is a princess of an alien world and a whole race of alien people. Her father and mother are both long dead, and she is the last surviving member of the royal family who could take the throne. In season 6, we find out that Allura & Coran are NOT the last surviving Alteans; there is a whole colony of Alteans out there without a leader, who need a queen. When the war is over Allura is going to step up and become the queen, and spend the rest of her life working to rebuild her planet and culture and help her people grow and survive. Lance, on the other hand, is obviously going to want to go back to earth when the war is all over; he’s shown on multiple occasions to be homesick to the point of crying about it (in fact he’s the ONLY paladin from earth who actually seems to miss it at all), and he misses his family SO much. No matter how much he loves Allura, he won’t choose her over his family, and Allura is definitely not going to give up on the last surviving members of her race to settle down on earth with Lance.
So in conclusion, it’s not Allura, which leaves Keith as the only available option which I know you saw coming but here are the high points anyway because there is literally TOO much evidence to bring up when it comes to klance:
Keith was introduced to us through Lance’s eyes in a very dramatic, significant way
Keith and Lance’s meeting parallel Keith’s parents meeting
they are SO alike and so equal with no kind of power imbalance between them at all
Lance & Keith’s rivalry has been continuously stressed by the crew and the VAs for ages; in fact, it’s arguably the relationship in the show that’s talked about the most
the flashbacks that showed Krolia and Keith’s father falling in love and settling down showed us that Krolia wanted to stay on earth, until she was forced to leave so she could protect her family. she and Keith found each other again, and when the war is over, there is no doubt in my mind that she and him will want to settle down together on earth to be a family again
every time there is a scene in the astral plane there are two very obvious stars that stick out in the background, that are different from the others; one of them is blue, and one of them is red. they don’t blend in naturally with the rest of the environment. they immediately stand out. there’s no reason for them to be there in the first place unless it were foreshadowing something very subtley
there was a scene in season 1 where they HELD HANDS AND SMILED SOFTLY AT EACH OTHER UNDER SOFT PURPLE LIGHTING, that same moment was brought up again in the next episode, and one of the writers has confirmed that Lance did in fact remember it, but that he wasn’t emotionally ready to acknowledge it yet. If you took out that moment, the entire show would have continued on like nothing had ever happened so WHAT WAS THE POINT OF PUTTING IN SUCH A BLATANTLY ROMANTIC SCENE AND THEN SAYING LANCE WASN’T EMOTIONALLY READY TO DEAL WITH IT if it’s not going to lead anywhere?
(the point is that klance is cannon king)
And if you want more proof and have a few hours to spare then you’re gonna wanna read my buddy Keith’s post which goes into much more intimate detail about why Keith is Lance’s love interest. It’s 50k words of nothing but the facts!
THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT

Not something I wanted, somthing I need
fandom: Voltron: Legendary Defender
words: 1405
summary: This is me being salty about everything that happenend. So I’m here with probably the first Fix-It Fics of many to come. Season 8 Episode 1 AU
Read on AO3
Since they set the Launch Date for their final mission Lance often found himself alone. Most of the time without him intentionally searching for a quiet place.
With every minute their departure grew closer and closer, inevitable.
He knew he should spend all his remaining time on earth with his family, enjoying their presence as much as possible. He should tease his nephews, spend time with his siblings, help his mother out in the kitchen, all the things he did before he went to the Garrison and disappeared for years.
But being with them just reminded him that he would, again, leave them and his home behind, and this time voluntarily.
He would again leave a immeasurable part of himself behind even if Veronica was joining them this time.
He would have her by his side, could protect her even though he knew she definitely could look after herself but the fierce protectiveness over his family was something he knew he could not shake off.
When he closed his eyes he often tasted sand on his lips, felt wind sweep through his hair, taking him to a back to a time where he almost lost her.
The coffee he was stirring in front of him had grown cold a while ago. Untangling his thoughts had become more and more challenging over the last months.
Over the last months?
He let out a sigh.
No over the last years.
Too much had happened and Lance knew they all did not properly deal with any of it.
He couldn’t even say if anyone besides Allura knew he died on that one mission. But hey, that was a whole other thing for another time.
And that time preferably was never.
“Lance? Lance?”
Blinking a few times to get his eyes to focus on Hunk who suddenly appeared in front of him, Lance looked up from his cup.
“Hey buddy, you okay?”
Lance’s throat constricted. He did want to talk about what had been on his mind the past few weeks but he also knew he could not answer Hunks question truthfully.
Hunk would leave behind as much as he did. A loving family, his home planet, everything they rebuild the past few months here on earth. But even now Hunk knew how much the universe needed them. He was ready to make sacrifices that needed to be made. They all knew how terrified of everything Hunk had been in the beginning and now he was fearlessly going into battle alongside all of them. He grew into the responsibly of the Yellow Paladin of Voltron amazingly over their time together as Voltron.
And Lance was still the homesick boy from Cuba from the beginning.
Lance was always good at keeping things to himself.
“Ohh, is this about the date you were going to ask Allura on? Did you finally ask her?”
Oh.
He did mention that when they got back to earth, trying to get back some sort of familiarity in this now very unfamiliar planet.
Moments of his parents, of his siblings flashed before his eyes. His parents working side by side in their new smaller kitchen, knowing exactly where to be to leave space for the other, working in perfect harmony.
His siblings with their significant others finding light and happiness during earth's dark dark times.
Seeing them, feeling their love so clearly, he understood that this wasn’t what he was looking for in Allura. He quickly forgot about asking her out and hadn’t really thought about it until Hunk’s question threw him completely of track.
“Oh no, you did ask her and she said no. Oh my god, I should have never asked. I am so sorry, Lance. Uhh. Should I make some hot chocolate? Do you want a hug?”
Totally stunned all Lance could say was “I, euhm. I never asked her out.”
Hunk gaped at him. And then went on a rant about how this was their last opportunity and if not now, when then?
Before he even knew what was really happening Hunk was pushing him after Allura after their next meeting. And honestly what should he tell Hunk?
That Allura always was a dream, far away from reality, eternally unreachable for him. A crush on a Princess of an ancient civilisation, without her people, without a home.
That lately when his heart fluttered in this chest it is not at the sight of pink armour and silver hair but of something else entirely?
That if he was totally honest with himself it hadn’t even started that recently but was there for a long time but seemed even more untouchable as the Princess of Altea?
Nope, that was another thing for another time.
So he asked out the Princess, not really expecting her to say yes.
“This was a beautiful place here, once.”
Now though Allura and Lance were surrounded by dead flowers and rotten trees that hadn’t been cared for in years. There was always something more important to do than care for a small park.
Allura sent him a small, sweet smile and stepped towards the tree.
“Maybe now is the time to start healing again.”
Placing her hand on the trunk of the dead tree she closed her eyes. A moment later the marks on Allura’s cheeks began to glow and spreading out from her hand blue vines climbed along the tree.
Leaves started to grow and unravel along the dead branches, grass started to sprout and flowers bloomed all around them. Traces of magic surrounded them.
And Allura stood there, beautiful and eternal as ever, under the glow of her magic.
Another Lance would have fallen for her even more right at this moment.
But this Lance, the Lance that had been through years of war, that travelled through galaxies finding a new family alongside all of it and that just got back to his family.
That Lance stood there, in awe of his friend, of what she could do.
And had that knowledge settle deep, deep inside of him that this was what he and Allura would always be.
Friends.
A family found in the most unusual way.
A smile spread across his face.
Slowly Allura took a step back from the tree her eyes shining in the lights.
“Lance, thank you for inviting me to dinner with your family. And I understand it is part of the courtship traditions of your planet and I feel honored, I really do - ”
Lance stared at the still turned figure in front of him. He was prepared for this. He knew exactly what he wanted to say to her.
“Allura, please. Just listen to me. I saw how much you were working the last months and how lonier you seemed every time the Alteans refused to speak with you. I wanted to give you an evening off and I thought it would be nice to spend it with people that care about you. You deserve a home to come back to after all of this and I just wanted to show you that you can have that here, here with all of us.”
Lance suddenly found himself with arms full of a sobbing Princess. Lance seeing a side of her she wasn’t able to show to anyone for a long time. The scared girl that lost her home.
“Thank you, Lance. You do not know how much your words just mean to me. I could have not asked for better friends to stand beside me in battle. Thank you.”
They stood there together for a while, side by side, taking in the night air, just talking.
After a while Allura wiping away the remaining tear tracks on her face and turned towards him. She send him a wobbly smile full of gratitude.
“I think it is time for me to - how do you say it? - turn in. And just… If you feel like you need to be with someone else tonight, do it. We can never know what our future holds.”
With that she winked at him and left him standing there underneath the blossoming tree.
Alluras words just now reminded him of Hunks words just earlier that day.
This could be their last quiet night for years to come.
Till this war was over.
So Lance took a deep breath, braced himself, turned away from the tree, walked into the building in front of him and knocked on Keith’s door.

Thanks for reviewing part 1 on FF HERE So, I do have a question. Not that we want to see Jodice with anyone else but I need some ideas for potential love interests (not their current spouses). Some that would make for an interesting and possibly humorous, jealous scenario, let me know.
Give Me Love
Actors Candice Accola and Joseph Morgan don't like each other at first but being forced to act together means they can't avoid the simmering attraction developing behind the scenes. Fast forward 8 years and they're due to appear in two fan conventions but given all the baggage and unresolved issues things aren't going to run as smoothly as organisers would hope.
Part 2: All of the Stars
June - 2019 – London, UK
It's just another night and I'm staring at the moon...I saw a shooting star and thought of you.
Joseph wasn't sure how long he'd been staring out the window. One minute the sun was setting in brilliant streaks of bright pink and orange on the horizon and the next it was dark and the sky filled with a shower of stars.
He was due to fly out the next morning but no amount of cocoa or sleeping pills were going to help him relax knowing what the next day held in store.
Candice Accola.
Two words that had the ability to mess with his composure.
Two words that stirred up more memories than any other.
Two words that meant more to him than anything and anyone.
A shooting star emerged moving through the sky breaking him from his thoughts and filling Joseph with a familiar warmth. She loved astronomy so much so that she'd researched the best place to observe it in its full glory. Like Caroline Forbes, Candice Accola had researching down to a fine, but only slightly neurotic, art.
They were camping in Chaco Canyon in New Mexico. As promised the heavens were putting on a brilliant show as they lay on the ground his arm securely around her. She'd squealed excitedly when the shooting star appeared unexpectedly and Joseph would never forget the way she berated him for not wishing on it when he had the chance.
Maybe if he had things would be different. Tonight, he wasn't taking any chances and quickly made his wish. Not that he was holding out much hope but the fact it had appeared within days of their reunion seemed almost fitting.
Although they weren't together anymore and hadn't seen each other in eighteen months, he still thought about her incessantly. What she was doing, who she was with and if she ever thought about him like he did her. It just about drove him crazy.
He read the tabloids trying to find out anything he could and every time a new 'love interest' was mentioned Joseph found himself more and more worked up about it. Of course he usually didn't take stock in media reports because they had been wrong about him so many times but it didn't stop him from obsessing and devising strategies on how to break them apart.
Of course Joseph never acted on it, he had a reputation to protect after all, but he kind of wished he could. His mother had told him as a young boy warring with the girl next door that one day he might find someone that he didn't just see as an adversary. Of course he'd asked what that meant and she'd said he'd fall madly in love when he was older and not expecting it. Being eight and extremely scared of 'girl germs' Joseph didn't think that was remotely possible.
Until he ran into Candice at the craft services table with rice stuck to her cheek. Of course he wanted to tell her, in fact his first instinct was to rub it away just to check that her creamy skin was as soft to touch as it looked. But he didn't. Joseph prided himself on being the gentleman his mother raised.
Turns out not telling her about the rice was actually ungentlemanly. Go figure. But that's what he liked about Candice. The fact she had no qualms in telling him just what she thought. Joseph knew then that he was in trouble. Beauty and brains was a tough combination to beat.
It didn't help that just as his attraction grew so did the number of scenes they shared together. It seemed like the viewing public could sense the chemistry between them that Joseph had felt since that first day. Not that he was complaining about spending more time with Candice and hopefully getting to know her better.
The cast and crew raved about her, apparently there was no one she didn't share chemistry with but Joseph hoped he could change that and be the only one. He'd always been competitive so saw it as a professional challenge. Nothing else.
Famous last words.
March - 2012 - Atlanta, GA
Joseph found himself missing home for the first time in a while. Although he'd been working in the States for close to a year now it didn't stop him wanting all of the familiarities from home. He'd spoken to his mother and thoughts of her amazing cooking had infiltrated his brain which he carried with him onto set.
This was the day he saved Caroline from Alaric's clutches at the high school and Joseph was excited about reminding her just how many times he'd saved her now. He could just imagine the cute, exasperated look she got when she was attempting to argue back. Social media had erupted as Candice had predicted after their first scene together and fans were delirious about their onscreen and offscreen characters giving into their feelings. Joseph would have laughed if it wasn't so true.
The scene at the school went off without a hitch which was becoming the norm between them. Even Julie Plec had pulled him aside a few episodes ago and mentioned just how explosive the chemistry between them was. He wasn't going to argue given his ever growing feelings for his beautiful, blonde co-star.
"What's wrong?" She asked, approaching him at the lunch table.
"Excuse me?"
"You haven't boasted about the fact you saved me yet again," she drawled. "I know you were thinking it, Morgan."
"I was," he admitted. "But I'll admit, I was kind of distracted by a bad dose of homesickness." Joseph couldn't believe he was admitting it to her of all people.
"Missing the Queen and Prince Harry?"
"I'll assume that Prince Harry reference was just for you, Accola," he joked. "While her Majesty certainly holds a dear place in my heart I was thinking of my family, if you must know."
"It must be difficult to be this far from home." She murmured. "My family may be in Florida but at least the flight doesn't take that long."
"And without the jet lag," he joked. "I guess I just miss my family and the food."
"I was actually thinking of having a dinner party to celebrate the wrap of season three next week. I can't promise you England but hopefully a pretty good time at least?" Joseph knew declining was madness. He knew this was her way of trying to welcome him and spending time together off set was something he'd been craving for a while.
What Joseph wasn't expecting was the array of English delicacies on her dining room table that night and as he helped himself greedily to the Beef Wellington, he couldn't help but send her a smile of gratitude. The fact she'd thought of him was only making him like her that little bit more.
"Don't ever let my mother taste this," he said pointing to the Yorkshire pudding on his plate.
"Why" She squeaked, self consciously.
"She might not like the competition," he shared. "I can't believe you did all of this."
"I know better than anyone else how difficult homesickness can be, Joseph." His heart almost stopped beating as she uttered his name for the first time since they'd met. "But I couldn't imagine having my family that far away so it was really the least I could do."
"Well, thank you, love," he smiled. The fans seemed to think that was a Klaus term but Joseph had been the one to suggest it to the writers. He was starting to realise he only wanted to use it on one person though, acting or in real life. "You have no idea what this means." He noticed her blush slightly as he said it. If Zach hadn't interrupted their conversation right then who knows what she might have replied?
September - 2012 - Covington, GA
"Now, you both know what you're supposed to do this episode?"
"He's supposed to shamelessly chase me as usual?" Joseph sent her a sideways glance. Ever since her impromptu dinner in March, their relationship had elevated to an extremely flirty friendship. Not that he could recall when they'd ever really been friends. She delighted in teasing him but Joseph would be lying if he didn't delight in exactly the same thing.
"Last time I checked Caroline was the one who suggested a date?"
"Yeah to a movie where I can put at least three seats between us," she quipped.
"Glad to see you two know your lines," the director drawled. "How about we get this show on the road?"
"Happy to buy you a drink later, you know tell you all about being the bad guy," he whispered in her ear tauntingly. "Only the best Moet too. None of these cheap, alcohol props."
"Easy tiger," she joked using British terminology he'd bestowed upon her in the make-up trailer earlier while moving away to her starting point in front of camera.
After the director called cut for the day, Joseph made his way towards the porch where the cast would relax between scenes. It was extremely peaceful overlooking the lake at the fictional Lockwood Mansion at the end of the day. The other actors were filming elsewhere and he found it quite relaxing sitting there and drinking in the Fall afternoon.
"It's days like this which make the job a little more bearable."
"Oh come on, you love it, Accola," he teased. "In fact, I have a souvenir just for you." She cocked her left eyebrow curiously, he obviously had her attention as he placed it on the table between them. She picked it up and read it briefly, a sly smile tugging at her lips.
"I think you should keep this," she announced, placing it back on the table and rocking back in her chair. "I wouldn't want you to forget me or anything."
"How could I with the mention of perspiration? You realise I could write a much better Miss Mystic Falls application? As much as I love Caroline, I don't think everything needs to rhyme."
"Hey," she growled, slapping him from her chair. "We can't all come from the birthplace of William bloody Shakespeare."
"First easy tiger and now the emphatic use of bloody as a makeshift middle name, I'll make a Brit of you yet, love."
"We'll see, Morgan," she muttered. "So, apparently you promised me a really expensive drink." Joseph wasn't sure whether to mention it, he didn't want to come across too eager or anything. But the fact she brought it up was a good sign.
"Well, of course. It's the least I owe you after having to put up with me all day."
"Not sure your thousands of twitter followers would agree, they seem extremely excited about you sharing so many scenes with 'you know who'."
"I didn't realise you followed me on twitter, love?"
"Call it professional courtesy," she shot back, her left eyebrow cocked lazily. "And you really didn't know?"
"Fine, you got me. I've been following you since the beginning for exactly the same reason," he lied. "Dana?" Her face broke into a gorgeous smile as he recited her cheeky reply to one of his tweets.
One drink had led to more at Red Phone Booth whiskey bar in Atlanta. Joseph said the establishment's name was part of her British transition. He was trying to ignore just how gorgeous she looked as they talked across the bar and felt himself slowly losing all his inhibitions. He remembered brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear and placing a chaste kiss on her cheek before escorting her to her accommodation. Who knew he had such impeccable manners? His mother would be proud even if he did have to take a cold shower when he returned to his hotel.
January - 2013 - Atlanta, GA
"There's been two massacres. Pastor Young's farm is here, and the old Lockwood cellar, where you spitefully slaughtered 12 of your own hybrids, is here. According to the book, the expression triangle is equilateral, putting it here."
"Somebody's been skipping their geometry classes. There are actually two places where the third massacre could be." He drew the extra lines on the map as she watched him curiously.
"Well, you didn't let me finish." They held each other's gaze because the scene called for it but Joseph knew it was the built up tension between the two co-stars who couldn't resist each other any longer. He could sense it in her eyes, her demeanour and the fact that her breathing had quickened slightly.
He could barely wait until they called cut and once they finally did he silently signalled her to his trailer with his eyes. They'd missed each other over the holidays, their acting reunion had more than conveyed that, and he couldn't wait to embrace her after all the time apart. Joseph couldn't quite recall whose clothes came off first but before he knew it the beautiful blonde was straddling him naked and he was sucking on her nipples hungrily.
She was moaning now given the pressure he was placing on her left nipple while his other hand found its way south to her wet centre. This was the moment he'd been waiting for and, given the whimper she emitted, so too Candice. He looked into her eyes silently asking for permission but her blue eyes were begging him to continue and before Joseph knew it they were one. It felt effortless as their bodies writhed together, their intermingling cries sounding out as she rode him to climax.
Joseph held her for a long time afterwards, he wasn't one to get attached to anyone but he couldn't let her go. He could feel her heart beating rapidly against his chest as they laid together and decided it was the single best sound he'd probably ever heard. His hand found its way through her golden waves as he placed butterfly kisses across her jaw and onto her collarbone.
"I'm usually more of a gentleman, I promise," he mumbled against her bare skin.
"Like you keep saying, Morgan." She joked. "I'd usually reprimand you but for once I'm not entirely annoyed by your behaviour. Well, as long as this stays just between us."
And suddenly he snapped out of his dream, looks like they were back to professional reality. Joseph had made his fair share of escapes in the middle of the night and it seemed like Candice was giving him a free pass. But did he really want one?
"Of course, we certainly can't risk this coming out." He didn't mean a word of it of course, but this was Hollywood afterall.

P.A.T.C.H. #06: "Life After the Big Bang"
There’s a common rule of thumb when it comes to comics: you can jump in when you see a new #1 on the cover. If not, be wary –you’re not gonna get it, you’ve skipped episodes, you’re missing out. Well, you know what? Nuts to that! We here at P.A.T.C.H. like to stick it to common sense and provide a halfway decent explanation for it! So here we are, presenting a story from possibly the most popular “Transformers” comics title ever that is not a number 1 and provides a satisfying, complete story with connections to more! Enjoy! ... No, seriously, did it take us that long to talk MTMTE?!
“LIFE AFTER THE BIG BANG”
“The Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye” #4-5 (2012)/ “Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye” Volume 2
Written by James Roberts, pencils by Alex Milne, colors by Josh Burcham, letters by Shawn Lee The amazing sogn for this wondrous edition of P.A.T.C.H.: https://youtu.be/tvqlt7OWTOk https://open.spotify.com/track/4p82pfEa4cayPqXLN6Rhzm
SO WHAT’S IT ABOUT? After receiving a cryptic, worrisome message, Autobot medic Ratchet, turncoat Autobot Drift and bad luck magnet Pipes land on the medical outpost of Delphi on the planet Messatine to investigate. Faced with a motley crew of doctors and patients and a deadly epidemic, our heroes have to rush both against unexpected enemies and their own worsening health... Oh, and Tailgate and Red Alert aren’t doing so hot on the ship, either. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW? The opening blurbs mostly fill you in on everything: the recent end of the Autobot-Decepticon War, the proposal to search for the fabled Knights of Cybertron (“Death of Optimus Prime” one-shot), the open invitation by captain Rodimus into the starship “Lost Light” and its disastrous launch (“More Than Meets the Eye” #1). Other than that, the rest are character threads picked up from previous issues of the series and can be ignored for now, to focus on the stand-alone nature of the thing. Still, let’s go over some major ones. In terms of pre-existing character development, the most pressing issue would be Drift’s dramatic arc(s). Although he first appeared in “All Hail Megatron” #5, he already had a pretty long history behind him, mostly outlined in the first “Drift” mini-series. In those four issues (written by Shane McCarthy, penciled by Alex Milne, colored by Josh Perez and lettered by Chris Mowry), it was revealed that Drift started out as destitute and homeless before the War, and so the Decepticon vision of equality appealed to him greatly. (Not to mention giving him an outlet for his pent-up rage.) He was renamed “Deadlock” and garnered a reputation of cruelty and efficiency. That is, until a disobedience episode, an escape attempt and a brief stint with the Circle of Light, a group of pacifist warrior-scholars, changed that. Following that, he bumped into the Wreckers (“Spotlight: Drift”, written by Shane McCarthy, penciled by Casey Coller, colored by Joana Lafuente and lettered by Chris Mowry) and started associating with the Autobots, with whom he stayed for the next few years, up to the second confrontation with the Dead Universe forces (“Chaos”, written by Mike Costa and James Roberts, with art by Livio Ramondelli and letters by Chris Mowry, which we’ve briefly talked about here). One near-death experience later, he emerged as a cheerful spiritualist, much to one famous medic’s annoyance. Just this once, Ratchet’s wrong –this latest rendition of the character is one of his most popular ones, and even if you’re not interested in his pre-history, you can go by what is said about him easily. Though Tailgate is (rather famously) one of the breakout stars of the series, it’s not he who has the more extensive history, but his roomie Cyclonus. An ancient warrior and comrade of deranged megalomaniac Nem-, excuse me, completely stable individual Nova Prime’s, he was an undead creature under the sway of the Dead Universe for a long time (“Revelation”, written by Simon Furman and drawn by various artists). He later joined fellow Golden Age survivor Galvatron and his reformed army against Cybertron (“Chaos” and “Heart of Darkness”... I think so, at least). Following the betrayal of his commander for the love of his home planet, he joined the “Lost Light” after a misunderstanding (and beating up Whirl, but that’s perfectly normal). He’s been warned at least one on his violent tendencies by Rodimus and has expressed his doubts over the entire War; can he really make a fresh start with these people? Finally, and although that could be considered a bit of a spoiler, certain details –locations, characters, even phrases– first appeared or were mentioned in “Last Stand of the Wreckers”, and specifically its trade paperback editions. Click here to get there immediately and (hopefully) get a few good reasons to check out the book yourselves! WHERE DO I GO FROM THERE? To all of “More Than Meets the Eye”, obviously! These two issues, apart from being stand-alone, plant the seeds for so much more down the road, it’s dizzying! Keep up with the series, where all the characters mentioned here receive further development, and when you’re done, be sure to jump in on “Lost Light”, its continuation. If, however, you want to go to specific arcs from the first season of the series based on individual elements (most by the same team as this issue), I’d suggest “Shadowplay” (issues #7-9 or Volume 3) for Ratchet’s past with Drift (and Red Alert’s troubles), “Remain in Light” (#17-21 or Volume 5) for the comeback of Ratchet’s antagonist, “Before and After” and “Cybertronian Homesick Blues” (#12 and #13, both in Volume 4) for Cyclonus and Tailgate’s continuing development and “Under Cold Blue Stars” (issue #15 or Volume 4) for Pipes’ shining moment. Reader discretion is advised: at least one of these stories is known to cause intense pain in the feels. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. Finally, make sure to pick up the dual 2012 Annuals for “More Than Meets The Eye” and “Robots in Disguise” (both contained in Volume 3 of their respective trade collections). Both are split in two. One half of their stories are the adventures of the present cast interacting with a Titan, a huge Transformer from the distant past. The other half, drawn by artist Guido Guidi (who also colors his work) in the style of the old Marvel “Transformers” series (as well as various “cosmic”, high sci-fi titles of the publisher), provides added world-building and backstory for the entire universe. While seemingly unrelated, the origin stories explain a few holes in the pasts of key characters (Cyclonus was young once?! And he knew Dai Atlas, too?!) and become vital later on, especially in the finale of “Lost Light”. IS IT ANY GOOD? It was a satisfying mystery that showcased how unique this world and its characters are. It featured the evolution of a true master artist. It introduced about a trillion things in 44 pages. It provided us with proof that Ratchet is, and shall forever be, one of the greatest things we have ever produced in this miserable world. WAIT, WHY DIDN’T YOU SAY ANYTHING ABOUT DRIFT?! Oh yeah, he’s there, too! Did I forget that? Never mind, song, playlist, go!
AND YOU THINK YOU'VE FIGURED OUT EVERYTHING | PLOT AND DIALOGUE While the format of this story isn’t unfamiliar, even for this feature (this is our third mystery, after “Windblade” and “Punishment”), what separates this one is how dense it is. Within the first three pages of the story, we’re introduced to three characters, one location and an impending threat, all unrelated to the main cast so far. Various techniques –unreliable journal narration, dialogue insertion, two-page spread– are mixed to give everyone as much character as possible and make everyone suspect for what’s going on. And the onslaught of detail doesn’t stop there. This is the kind of story that would’ve been impossible with any other type of property, even a sci-fi one: the very idea of transformation is integral to how it works. Alt-mode details, in-universe cultural views, even having the ability to change shape are used both as world-building and clues for the mystery. This is the kind of story that makes the casual, vaguely interested reader into a devotee and forces them to go back and reread it to get all the foreshadowing. This applies to the dialogue, too. Roberts’ language, which we’ve seen before here, has been praised as snappy and quotable (Ratchet and Drift here, full stop), but it also shows a deep appreciation for all “Transformers” lore. The famous joke on the best names being taken, for example? Done at the expense of an obscure character from a previous generation reusing the name “Prowl”. If there’s one downside to all that, it’s that some scene transitions can be a little clumsy (Red Alert’s scenes, though important for later, come a bit out of left field), but it’s a small price to pay for the excellence on display.
Hark! What is that I see? A vessel is leaving the port! The sirens of the “S. S. Dratchet” are blaring! All aboard! FEELING SPACED BREATHING OUT LISTERINE | ART And speaking of excellence, the team of Alex Milne and Josh Burcham are on fire here. The amount of detail, fluidity and expressiveness on all pre-existing characters is incredible, but the new designs are a triumph on their own. Most will be distracted by Pharma (I know I was!), but it’s Ambulon’s story-important form that’s the real star here. In general, however, there’s incredible synergy between the art and the story. Background details (First Aid’s badge collection) and actions (again, First Aid’s fiddling in the second issue) are as important as anything else to solve the mystery, so make sure you read slowly and pay attention. In general, Milne’s able to pack an incredible amount of information into very tight pages. The best example is probably Drift attacking another character and transforming in a single, enlarged panel and a few mini, inserted ones. Lastly, the backgrounds need to be highlighted. The arrival to the outpost and the climax excluded, all scenes are set indoors, but the art doesn’t feel constrained by them. Instead, it has two different approaches to interior spaces. Everything in Delphi looks used, dented, past its prime –even the very walls feel grimy. This makes it the polar opposite to the brightly lit, spacey rooms of the “Lost Light”, full of inviting light blues and pinks (the violent outburst in Cyclonus’ room is the exception). Burcham’s richly textured work favors faded browns, sickly greens and rusted reds –the liquid of the mysterious disease looks eerily much like blood. Two flashback-montage sequences (Tailgate’s narration and the final explanation for the outbreak of the epidemic) are much freer in panel construction and dreamier in color pallet, but are once again tight and informative. Add to this some splashes of robo-gore and the unobtrusive lettering (Pharma’s silent speech bubble and use of a laser scalpel is another small miracle) and this is an artistic five-course meal.
Pssst. Nobody tell Pipes “corpse-pile” isn’t an actual game. Let him figure it out on his own. YOU'D KILLED THE BETTER PART OF ME | CHARACTERS AND THEMES But, if you’ll let me get personal for a moment, despite all the above gushing, my favorite element in this story is still its protagonist. Ratchet’s arc in IDW has been one defined by his old age, not a unique element in the franchise –same goes for his “Animated” and “Prime” incarnations, after all. Where this medic separates himself, however, is how he’s tied to the larger themes of reconstruction and moral grayness. The characters of this universe are no strangers to morally questionable actions –we have already seen one such early demonstration from the Autobots on this feature–, but the culprit behind the Delphi disease really takes the cake. He claims all sorts of survivalist justifications for his criminal actions, but the one that rubs the worst are his similarities to Ratchet –he calls attention to them to buy time and out of a need to show off, in traditional “baddie” fashion. And that hurts. After all the effort to end the war, there’s still rot, (literal and figurative) disease and evil. How long can anyone hold onto their ideals in such a world? Won’t these ideals be corrupted, sooner or later? Why not just copy the bad guy’s tactics? If such violence is justified, why not snap and kill the bastard already? Why remain selfless and sacrificial –isn’t it tiring? The villain’s charm and Ratchet’s moral dilemma play off of each other wonderfully through Roberts’ snarky dialogue, and the final stinger remains uncomfortable. In the b-plot, this theme is further emphasized with Tailgate and Cyclonus’ scenes, where the senior bot berates the younger one on choosing a faction knowing little of their world. The younger characters introduced do offer another view –that there can be hope for the future-, so there really is no final closure offered. Instead, I wish to end this paragraph with the words of another great author: “Life persists”.
Even beaten down, rusting from the inside out and minutes before death, Ratchet is still cooler and more presentable than all of us at our best. BUT I CAN'T STILL FOCUS ON ANYTHING | FINAL THOUGHTS While reading this story again for this feature, I had flashes of my first time reading it a few years back. At that point, I hadn’t been completely sold on “Transformers”, but processing the facts and the details and the character beats here, I started seeing that there was something great about them. “More Than Meets the Eye” is a special book, the perfect gateway to a rich, complex, beautiful universe and introduced me to one of my faves. This wasn’t the story that blew me away (that might come up later), but it definitely was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

AUTHOR’S NOTE:
A/N: WELCOME BACK EVERYONE! I am so thankful to everyone who was patient enough to wait for this story to come back. I am so sorry for the delay. I gave birth to Emilia Ann on Oct 1. I was in labor for over 20 hours and I am so thankful that I didn't need a c-section (as I almost did due to some early complications). We have been relaxing at home and even watched the first episode of the new season together last week. She is already a Captain Hook fan! But again, thank you for being patient while we got used to being home and being a family. Updated will start to happen again every Friday. I really hope you enjoy this chapter. Thanks again to my amazing artist Monica and my amazing beta reader Nicola. This story wouldn't be what it is now without them!
Special shout out to Monica @acaptainswaneternity - the artist with this story. I have loved everything she has done for me - so make sure to check her out! She made an amazing cover and the best image sets for each chapter.
Another huge shout out to Nicola @alocin209 who beta read everything and tried to keep me on target!

Emma had never been an emotional person, not really. Yes, she cried when she was upset, and yes, she got angry pretty easily. She would never have classified herself as a tearful goodbye type of person though. As Mrs. Jones drove through her old neighborhood and past their old school, Emma couldn't help but be caught up in the memories that flooded her system. She never really missed home, but as the car turned down the street, bringing into view her house, a tear swelled in her eye and for the first time in almost seven years, she felt homesick.
She missed her father, brother, and yes, her mother, but she never really thought she could miss a home. It was just a house, built with wood and concrete. Yet as the large colonial crept closer, Emma couldn't help but feel a familiar pull, similar to what she felt earlier in the day when she saw Killian. It was like she had been missing something for years and never knew she had a gaping hole in her heart because of it.
As Adelaide parked the car in the Jones' driveway, Emma found her eyes looking over at her home. She pictured her parents standing at the doorway waving to the school bus as she rode off to her first day of school. It was one of the only times she could remember her mother actually being around for an important day. She remembered her father teaching her to catch a ball in the front yard, something some mean girls in school made fun of her for that year. They stopped that suddenly when she hit one of them right in the stomach, with perfect accuracy, just like her dad had taught her. She remembered waiting in the yard, under the big oak tree, for her parents to bring Henry home from the hospital.
She pictured her bedroom, where so much had happened in her life, so much that shaped who she was. She was almost positive that it would look exactly as she left it. The one thing she could count on her mother for was that she would never touch the kid's rooms. Her mother redecorated the first floor of the house at least once every five years, but she never let Emma touch her own room. Emma was sure that her poster of the Backstreet Boys was still hanging above her bed with a heart drawn around Nick's head. (Yes, she still blushed about that poster to this day, considering she did it when she was twelve, but it was something her mother wouldn't let her take down.)
"Welcome home love," Killian whispered to her as the doors to the car opened and everyone got out. She'd forgotten she was still next to him once they turned into their neighborhood, too overwhelmed by what was going on outside of the vehicle.
She was actually thankful for the break. The car ride with Killian had been awkward, to say the least. After their very high school, love struck teens make out session on the airplane, which Emma was still a bit flustered about, sitting in a car with him and his family for the thirty minute drive home wasn't something she had been looking forward to. The electricity still sizzled between them and she was secretly overjoyed each time his skin touched hers when the car would jolt.
She wasn't regretting what she had done on the plane. She couldn't regret it, but she was a bit embarrassed about it. Mostly, she was petrified that she allowed herself to get caught up in the moment and allowed herself to get into a situation where a stewardess caught her sitting on an old friend's lap, with her tongue in his mouth. Never in her life had she done something like that before. Sure, there were other models who were caught having sex on set, getting caught with drugs on planes, but she would never get caught doing those things herself. She wasn't like most models, she had a good head on her shoulders.
Yes, she was embarrassed. She was also severely turned on. She had dreamt of the way he would kiss. She used to daydream of what it would be like to kiss him. Her wildest dreams weren't even close to hitting the mark. He was skilled to say the least. His hands felt like both fire and ice against her skin. It was a feeling she never wanted to forget. No one had ever touched her in the way he touched her. She never felt that way before with anyone, not even Neal. No one had ever held her the way Killian had, and all they had done was kiss. She wanted to do it again but there was a voice in the back of her head that told her she couldn't allow it to happen again.
As Emma climbed out from the back of the car and retrieved her luggage, her parents appeared at the doorway of her home. Her father hadn't changed at all. He was still the rugged man she grew up with. He had come from humble beginnings and worked on the farm that her mother's family owned. He had always been handsome and age had only accented the features of her father's face. Her mother liked to say he was like fine wine, he only got better with age. Since marrying her mother, he had quit working on the farm in order to help her manage the family's business, but he was still a shepard at heart.
Her mother, while changed, still held herself with the same grace and confidence she always had. When Emma was younger, Mary Margaret Blanchard Nolan had gorgeous long brunette hair that Emma was always envious of. Now, her mother sported a pixie cut, which surprisingly made her mother more beautiful and graceful. She was the princess of the Blanchard corporation. While Emma's father had moved into the family business, her mother followed in the footsteps of the other women in the family; running charities and spending the family fortune. However, she had to give her mother a lot of credit as she wasn't anything like most of the women in the family. Yes, her mother planned parties and dressed in fancy clothing, but her mother was at least compassionate. The charities she ran she truly cared about and she did really love Emma, even if she did like to give Emma a hard time.
Emma quickly glanced back at the Jones' family, all of whom were greeting Killian. It looked like Liam was home and had added quite a few new members to the family. Even though she knew the neighbors were more like family, no one paid attention to her. Sucking in a deep breath, Emma walked towards her parents.
"Welcome home Emma!" Her father got to her first, pulling her into a bear hug. She breathed in deeply. She hadn't realized how much she needed a hug from her father after the past few days. Suddenly, it didn't matter that she knew a lecture from her mother was coming, it didn't matter that Neal had screwed her over and it didn't matter what had happened with Killian. All that mattered was she was home, and it felt good.
"Thanks Dad, it's good to be here," she sighed, pulling back to get a better look at him. He was tanned, and she could tell that he had been spending quite a lot of time outside, which was good for him. Emma always thought he spent too much time inside a stuffy office.
"Honey, I'm really sorry, but I actually have to run," he said, sadness peaking through his eyes. "I got a call a few moments ago from the office and I have to go in, but I promise to be home as quick as I can be."
Emma's smile faltered a bit, some worry popping back up at the thought of being left alone with her mother, but she couldn't be upset with him. He rarely would take meetings on important days or skip out on time with her, so she knew his absence must be something he couldn't get out of.
As her father moved towards his pickup truck that sat in the driveway, her mother moved to take his place. Emma was actually really surprised when her mother pulled her in for a hug instead of her more traditional kiss on the cheek.
"I'm so glad you're home Emma. Come inside, I've made lunch." Mary Margaret's voice held no lie. Emma's smile returned when it seemed that her mother really was happy to have her home. At least there wasn't any passive tones to her statement and her mother didn't say anything condescending to her right away.
"Thanks mom, I'm starving," Emma's mouth already salivating at the thought of her mother's cooking. Yes, her mother could throw a party, but she could cook up a storm as well.
"I didn't make much, but there is a grilled cheese waiting for you. Sorry it's not more, but I am trying to get everything ready for dinner tonight, plus with all the work that goes into Henry's party.." she trailed off.
"It's OK mom, grilled cheese sounds amazing," Emma offered, trying to get her mother away from what Emma assumed would be a long conversation about parties she couldn't care less about. She couldn't pass up her mom's famous grilled cheese though, so she really didn't care if her mom did go on a 30 minute tirade about the DAR or Henry's party, as long as she got that grilled cheese.
On their way inside, her mother informed her that the Jones' clan would be joining them for a large dinner celebrating that everyone was together once again. She said that Henry was over at his girlfriend's house and that she would be joining them for dinner. Her mother gave her a slight glance as she mentioned Henry's new love interest, silently telling Emma not to give the girl a hard time.
Emma had always been overprotective of her younger brother. Ever since she held him for the first time in the hospital when her mother gave birth, Emma felt a deep need to protect him from anything. He was their miracle baby. Her mother had experienced medical issues when Emma was born and doctors told them they would have issues having any other children. Seven years, a shit ton of money, and a lot of prayers later, Henry was born and Emma couldn't have been happier. She had begged her parents for a sibling for years.
Leaving Henry was the worst thing about her move to LA. She never wanted to leave Henry behind. Other than her monthly phone calls to her mother, Henry was the only person she kept in constant contact with while she was away. Sure, her father joined in on the phone calls, but she didn't talk to them as much as she did her little brother. Most of her conversations with him weren't about anything; they would send each other funny articles they found, keep each other updated on their own personal ongoings (Henry's days at school and Emma's escapades around LA, usually watered down for her brother's sake).
Thankfully, her brother never blamed for her leaving. He understood her better than anyone could ever dream of. He got her need to live her dream, he got that she didn't want to fit into a box that was already made for her. Henry always supported her, and she would always support him. She would however, be very hard on his new girlfriend. Henry deserved the best and Emma was going to make sure whoever he decided to date would be the best.
The kitchen, where Emma had eaten breakfast each morning before school, surprisingly hadn't changed. She had expected her mother to renovate the area, since the last time it was updated was a year or so after Henry was born. Yet as she stood next to the island, the same familiar smells wafted through the area and the same country blue paint of the backgrounds surrounded her.
Her mother walked around the area gathering all the food she had prepared for her daughter. Emma took her seat at the island, watching the trees sway in the breeze outside of their large kitchen window. The treehouse was still up and there was still a tire swing attached to another large oak. She had been preparing herself for changes yet she saw almost none. She wasn't quite sure what to think about the lack of changes.
"So, your flight was good? You had a chance to catch up with Killian?" her mother asked as she sat everything down in front of Emma. The woman took a seat next to her daughter and turned her whole body to actually pay attention to the conversation. Emma wasn't really sure what to think about it. She was taken aback by her mother's character change, so much so that she didn't answer at first. It took her a minute to answer.
"Ummmm…. It was good. Nothing special really, which is good for a flight. And yeah, I was able to catch up with Killian." Emma only gave her mother the quick run down, unwilling to go any further into what had happened on the flight.
"It's good you had a chance to catch up with him. Both of you have been gone for such a long time. I'm sure Addie is happy to have him back, I know your father and I are overjoyed that you are finally home," her mother beamed.
"Alright mom cut the shit, what the hell is going on? You aren't acting normal," Emma asked, not wanting this weird conversation where her mother wasn't the center of attention to continue. It wasn't what Emma was used to and it made her uneasy.
"Nothing is wrong Emma," her mother began before Emma interrupted.
"Nothing is wrong? You seriously expect me to believe that? You have never had a conversation with me that hasn't started wtih you berating my choice in career, telling me about some stupid party, or some other bullshit. So what the hell is going on?" Emma almost yelled, tired of the run around.
"Emma, your leaving was tough, on all of us," her mother began, causing Emma to roll her eyes. "Now stop that, I am trying to explain and you pulling your attitude will not help."
Emma sighed and turned to face her mother. She seemed different. Her posture, while still confident, seemed off. She didn't seem as happy as she once was.
"Thank you. Like I was saying, your leaving was hard on all of us. Especially me," her mother looked right into her daughter's eyes, with tears brimming, "Emma, I am so sorry for how I acted when you were younger. Growing up, I was always expected to behave a certain way, to become exactly what my mother was. I wanted different for you. That is why I pushed you to go to college, why I wanted you to have something to live for. I know it isn't an excuse for what I did, but it is the reason."
Emma couldn't believe what she was hearing. Just a month ago, her mother sounded completely different. She belittled Emma's new gig and couldn't seem to understand why Emma didn't want to get a normal job. What had happened that made her all of a sudden decide to change?
"Just last month though, you were on a tirade about how my job wasn't worth my time!" Emma stated, with a bit of anger in her voice.
"It's because you are doing something you wanted to do, and truthfully honey, I was… am… a bit jealous. I never got that opportunity. I never got to do what I wanted to. Yes, I married your father, and I had you and Henry, but I never got to do what I wanted. Did you know I wanted to teach?" The question surprised Emma. She knew her mother had a passion for education, sitting on the board of three different education charities, but she never knew her mother had other dreams.
"No," Emma whispered.
"I did. When I was younger, I wanted to teach. Kindergarten actually. Your grandmother never let me follow through on those dreams. She told me that college was a waste of time, that my life was with the business and running charities. I was to do what all Blanchard women had done for years. Since you have left, I've had a lot of time to think about what I did. I pushed you to college because I never got that opportunity. I did to you exactly what my mother did to me, just different. I always wanted more for you, for you to grow and to become a strong leader. It just look me awhile to see that this, you modeling, is your passion," her mother cried, tears now streaming down her face. Her mother's hands were resting near Emma's plate, palms up, waiting for Emma to take them. Waiting for Emma to tell her that everything she had done was OK.
"Emma, I am sorry that I was so hard on you. I am sorry that I never supported you the way you deserved. You were always so head strong, so independent, just like your father. I didn't quite know how to raise you. I struggled. You were your father's daughter. You were always closer to him than you were to me. I was jealous about that as well. That is why I pushed myself further into my charities, why I missed so much. It hurt me to see you so happy with your father, but so unhappy with me. I am so sorry that I let you down Emma. I am so sorry that I was the reason you felt the need to leave. I am sorry that I made you feel that you were better off far away from home."
Emma couldn't take it anymore, so she placed her hands on her mother's and gave them a gentle squeeze. Yes, her mother wasn't the best when she was younger, but Emma always knew her mother loved her. She never thought any differently. She knew her mother had been upset about something for years, but this was the first time her mother ever opened up to her daughter. She knew it was hard for her.
"Oh mom," Emma began, scooting her chair closer to her mother, "Please don't cry."
"I'm sorry Emma. Really, I am. You have no idea how happy I am that you came home. My only wish for this trip is that you see just how loved you are here and don't stay away for this long again." Mary Margaret had never been more sincere in her life.
"It's OK mom. I'm sorry too. I'm sorry I stayed away for so long, but I can promise you, this isn't just because of you." Emma knew that now was the time to revitalize and start to mend her relationship with her mother. She had always wished she was closer with her mother and now was the chance to actually do that.
Clearly, they had both grown in the time Emma had been away. Her mother seemed to no longer be the woman she once was, who spent too much time focusing on projects instead of her daughter. Emma was no longer the scared girl who was annoyed with her mother's behaviour and couldn't wrap her head around why her attitude was so poor towards her.
It made sense to her that her mother acted the way she did. She remembered her grandmother, Ava, wasn't a horrible person. She was just someone who was raised very differently and in a different time, when women weren't in charge and who didn't really do much if they had money. Ava always instilled the importance of charity work in her daughter and wanted her daughter to take over for her when she passed. Now that Emma thought about it, she did remember her mother and grandmother having a rather loud discussion about Mary Margaret's involvement in something. In fact, now that Emma really thought about it, their conversations sounded a lot like the conversations she used to have with her mother.
It was time now to change things. That is what this trip was all about anyway. She came home to get away from Neal, to make that change, to make sure she never went back to him. She wanted to make sure that she would never be hurt like that again. So why not fix her relationship with her mother as well? Why not return to LA knowing she had someone, somewhere to turn to if things got bad again?
Emma knew deep down that part of the reason she didn't handle the situation with Neal well was because she didn't have someone, more specifically a mother, to talk to about things like this. Emma had never talked to her mother about relationships. Maybe if she had thought she could talk to her mother when she was struggling, she would have handled Killian's abrupt withdrawal differently and she knew for a fact she would have been able to handle Neal's betrayal better.
"Mom, I'm sorry too," she began, handing her mother a tissue to dry her tears, "I never really understood where you were coming from. I didn't try to understand. But, I didn't leave because of you, or at least it wasn't just because of our strained relationship. Sure, it helped me make the decision, but I didn't come home just because we didn't have the best relationship."
"Why then? Why didn't you come home? Sweetie, you could have told us anything, you know that. What happened?" It was like a huge change in her mother when she was asking Emma these questions. The woman in front of her was so different. Emma could see she truly cared about what caused Emma to stay away. She truly wanted to be there for Emma, she wanted to mend their relationship, just like Emma did.
"It's a long story mom and you still have dinner to get ready," Emma said, hoping to put off the heart to heart for a few minutes at least.
Yes, she wanted to better their relationship but at the same time, she didn't want to air all of her dirty laundry to her mom. She didn't know if she could handle telling her everything, mostly because she didn't want to relive it herself. It wasn't that she didn't want to share it, she just didn't want to have to say it.
"How about we kill two birds with one stone? I need some help finishing up dinner and I've always found it easier to talk about hard things when you are elbow deep in rolling dough," her mother smiled, giving her a wink.
Maybe this relationship with her mother will be easier to repair than she thought.
Before they actually dove into finishing dinner, Emma scarfed down her grilled cheese and took a quick shower, feeling gross from the flight. Airplane rides always did that to her, so it wasn't just because she could still feel Killian's hands on her.
During the baking of the peach pie (apple pie was forbidden in the Nolan household, thanks to her mother's horrible allergy), Emma told her mother about her senior year in school. She spilled the beans on everything. She explained how her mother's disapproval of things did help to drive her away, but she understood now why she did it and didn't blame her.
Her mother was nothing but supportive during the discussion. She laughed at appropriate times, including the fact that Emma got drunk that night, and was sympathetic to what Emma had felt at Killian's sudden disappearance. She understood why Emma felt the need to get away and even told her she would have done the same thing if her father had pulled the same stunt when they were young.
"So, this morning was the first time you've seen Killian since that Christmas?" her mother asked, making sure she got the story straight. Emma was sure that eventually Mrs. Jones would be hearing this but it didn't really bother her. And who knows, maybe having his mother yell at him would help him tell her why he just left with no explanation.
"Yeah, he promised to show up at my party but he didn't. You would have thought with both of us being in LA, we would have ran into each other, or at least seen each other's name in the papers but somehow we were able to stay invisible," Emma explained, a sad look coming over her face. They were almost done with dinner, which was good, considering it was supposed to start in thirty minutes.
Her father had gotten home a few minutes ago and Emma had never seen him as happy as he was when he saw his wife and daughter actually working together, with no bickering, and talking about Emma's past. He quickly kissed each of them hello and left them to their own accords.
"How did that go? This morning I mean?" her mother asked.
"Differently than I expected," Emma said, a blush forming on her cheeks. Her mother didn't miss the subtle change in Emma's appearance either.
"You still like him, don't you?" her mother asked with a smile.
"No, that ship has sailed," Emma lied, trying to cover up her new feelings that were building towards her neighbor.
"OK…" her mother said with a drawn out voice, "that's probably good anyways"
Emma turned to her mother, who was now wiping down the counter. The patio was made for dinner, tables surrounding it and citronella candles already lit in the center. The food was already prepared on platters and was waiting patiently for the Jones family and Henry to arrive.
"Why would you say that?" she asked.
"Well, as you probably saw earlier, Liam is also back in town, unable to pass up the opportunity to see his brother. He's brought his entire clan with him. He got married you know? Oh, to a lovely woman, and they have four kids. Well, that meant that the Jones' don't have enough room for everyone, so I offered them for us to house Killian here for his stay. He is staying in the guest room," her mother said blatantly, walking towards the door that just rang, leaving Emma stunned.
The oncoming storm that was the Jones clan coming into the Nolan's home kept Emma's worry from overwhelming her. Before she knew it, she had been given too many hugs to count, too many kisses on cheeks and been through a whirlwind introduction of Liam's family.
It wasn't until everyone was seated outside, waiting for Henry to show up with his girlfriend, that Emma's thoughts had the opportunity to take over.
Killian was going to be staying with them, in the guest room. The guest room that shared a bathroom with hers. How did her mother even allow this to happen? Why couldn't she invite Evie over to stay instead?
She was already having a hard time thinking through her feelings about what happened on the flight. She had really enjoyed those moments, but she wasn't 100% sure she wanted to repeat them. Actually, she knew she did, especially if he kissed her the way he did earlier, but she wasn't sure if it was the right thing. They had been drinking when they kissed, had been wrapped up in the past. He said he didn't regret it earlier, but what about now, what about after the buzz of the rum wore off?
He hadn't regretted what they had done. She hadn't either. However, she didn't want to have to face him every morning, noon, and night. She wanted to be able to think through things without him being right there. She wanted to be able to decide if things between them would go anywhere, without a joined bathroom between them. How would she ever be able to determine what is between them if they were constantly forced together? She needed to be sure about her feelings and with their first encounter in almost seven years happening because of a drunken game of truth or dare, she had to be sure that nothing was impeding her feelings.
Thankfully, the arrival of Henry and his girlfriend Violet, pulled Emma from her thoughts. Violet seemed like a nice girl. A bit shy, especially around the large group, but all things aside, she was a sweet girl. She looked at Henry the way her mother looked at her father. It was sweet actually. They had a relationship that most adults would kill for. Emma could only hope that it would last. She knew that young love, that first high school, puppy love, didn't really last. Or if it did, it was as rare as soul mates and true love.
Dinner went well, or as well as a group of sixteen people could make dinner go. The place was a mess by the time dessert and the real conversation rolled around. Dinner had started with simple small talk; discussion of the weather, Henry's hopes for graduation, as well as Violets, discussion of how stupid politics were, and Emma's least favorite pastime, stories of the kids when they were younger. Her father loved spilling stories of her when she was little, before she went off to conquer the world. Mr. Jones was the same way, but his stories tended to focus on Liam and not Killian. She could see his face fall with each passing story.
She wasn't quite sure if her mother had planned it, but Killian was sitting right across from her. So throughout the whole meal, after he took his luggage up to the guest room when he arrived, she had to make quick glances at him. She couldn't help it, her eyes were drawn to him. He started off the meal looking happy and content, shooting off jokes with his brother and little sister. Yet, as his father told story after story of Liam's childhood, his face continued to fall. She silently prayed that someone would change the subject to lighten the torture on him.
She wasn't thankful for the change of subject when it did eventually come around.
"So Emma, why don't you tell us all about your little adventures in modeling?" Mary Margaret said. She didn't mind being asked about her time modeling or telling them that she had done some pretty big jobs in the past year, enough so that she could quit her waitressing job, but she wasn't too happy about the way her mother worded the question. They were still learning each other, and she knew it would take some time for their relationship to be where it should be, but the way her mother worded the question made Emma stew.
"Well mom," she said, with annoyance in her voice, hoping her mother took note of the situation, "things have been going pretty well. I actually booked a few shoots earlier in the year that have given me enough in savings that I was able to quit my job waitressing, so now I can focus on my shoots instead."
She saw the look of pride on her father's face. Her mother however, looked a bit disappointed. Everyone else at the table didn't look any different, with smiles still plastered on their faces.
"Emma, that's wonderful!" her father said, beaming.
"Sweetie, are you sure you can afford to actually quit a paying job? I only ask because I don't want you to worry about money or anything. Maybe you should use that degree you got, put some of the hard work to good use," her mother questioned. After their previous conversation, Emma knew she didn't mean to sound condescending, but it still hurt to hear the disbelief in her mother's voice.
"Yes mom, I am sure I can afford it," she replied, with nothing but irritation seeping through her tone. "And I don't need to do anything with my degree. I'm happy doing what I'm doing right now."
"Emma, what else have you been doing out there? Go to any parties? Have any boyfriends?" Adelaide asked, with more love in her voice than in her mother's last two questions combined. She smiled at the woman who always supported her. She knew she was being harsh on her mother, but she had hoped for at least a few hours of normalcy before her mother's old colors showed through the new paint.
"Well, I'm currently helping my two best friends get engaged. They've been together since right after I moved to LA. Ruby and Lacey are perfect together. And no, I don't really go to any parties, it isn't really my scene. My ex did though. I'd say that was part of what led to our break up," Emma confessed.
She hadn't told anyone at home about Neal. No one seated at the table knew she even had a boyfriend in LA. She hadn't meant to talk about it either, but Adelaide's calming voice and question tore down her walls quick and had Emma spilling some of her guts.
"You had a boyfriend?" Evie squealed, looking nothing but excited about the development. She lived for "love stories" even if they ended badly. She was a junkie for anything remotely romantic.
"I did, but we just broke up actually. It wasn't going to work out," she explained, willing them all to leave it at that. She knew most of the table would, but she was worried about her mother as she looked down to the head of the table.
"What does he do? Is he a model too?" Brennan asked.
"No. Well yes and no. He is a model, but he is also a business owner, or something like a business owner. His father owns a couple of businesses and he helps out," Emma explained, with detest in her voice. Now that she was describing Neal, how could she even date a male model?
"You never know Emma, maybe you two will make up when you get back. Sometimes love needs some time apart. You never know," her mother started.
"Actually, I'm pretty sure Neal and I will not work out," Emma tried to tell her.
"Believe me sweetie, sometimes it just takes some distance. Just wait and see," her mother said one last time.
"No mom it won't!" Emma finally let her anger out.
The table went quiet immediately. No one lifted a drink or a fork, some of the plates of pies sitting untouched for what seemed like an eternity.
"Well let's move on, it doesn't seem like we are going to be agreeing on Emma's love life anytime soon," Adelaide said, trying to lighten the situation.
"Killian, when do you start training? By the way, the league made such a stupid decision to bench you!" her father said from the other end of the table.
So that was something new. She didn't know he was suspended. She knew something was up when he said he was coming home for three weeks, especially since the season was in mid swing and everyone was gearing up for the series. She had just assumed it was an injury or a needed vacation, but suspended?
"Well, the league was just doing what it had to. I don't blame them, it could have been a lot worse. But I start in a few days. I can't train with the Nationals, sorry David, but I am training with one of the minor leagues, so hopefully I can keep up with everything. I'm trying to look at this in a positive light, maybe take the time to do some thinking," he explained, sadness lacing his voice. She could tell he was missing his time on the field. What had happened to him, what was so bad that it got him benched?
"Thank God they sent him here to do it too, I couldn't stomach him staying in LA training while that woman waltzed around, continuing to ruin his career," Brennan cursed from near Killian. She could see the anger in the elder Jones' eyes. Liam was trying to calm his father down, placing a hand up to tell him to drop it.
"Dad…" Liam began, but was quickly interrupted.
"No Liam! Killian is throwing everything away over some whore who has controlled him for way too long. If anything good came of this shit show, it was this woman being removed from his life forever. At least that is what we can hope, right Killian?" Brennan's words hurt even Emma. The tone of his voice was vicious and harsh. Emma could see Killian breaking and all she wanted to do in that moment was console him. She wanted to tell him no matter what she would support him, unlike his father.
"Brennan…" Adelaide tried to calm her husband down, but to no avail.
"All of you, stop. Killian knows he screwed up. He has made it too far to just throw away his career over some woman. His career hangs in a balance and all because he allowed this woman to control everything he did. Killian, you need to work hard while you are here. This isn't a vacation or a chance to, what is it you said, do some thinking. This is your livelihood, you can't be a pansy ass about it!" Brennan's voice was getting louder after each and every word.
Emma could tell Brennan was riling himself up to say something else, but before anyone was able to get out another word out, Killian stood up, his chair flying as he stormed into the house that he was now staying in. He was muttering some curse words that were brilliantly strung together about his father.
No one else stood up from the table. Liam and his family turned back to their pies. Violet and Henry were like deers in headlights, unsure what to actually do in that moment. Emma felt bad for the girl. For the first time meeting the "extended family", she was getting an eye and earful. Everyone sat in silence and ate for the next ten minutes.
Brennan was the first one to get up and make his way to leave. He thanked the Nolan's for dinner, saying that he would see David tomorrow to discuss something and headed out. Thankfully, he didn't go through the house, since their backyards were only separated by a wooden fence that shared a gate.
"I'm so sorry Mary, he's been so upset since this whole suspension went down. I begged him not to bring it up. I'll talk to you tomorrow," Adelaide said as she stood up to make her leave, kissing her mother on the cheek. Her mother just waved her off, a knowing look in her eyes. This actually was pretty normal; Brennan losing his temper wasn't anything new.
Emma was actually kind of pissed no one from Killian's family got up to check on him when he stormed out. She would have gone after him, but it didn't really seem like her place. She had only reconnected with him again a few hours earlier. She didn't know what he was going through. Well she kind of did, but she knew nothing about the background.
Thankfully the rule in Emma's family was whoever made the meal didn't have to clean up, so she decided to turn in, claiming tiredness from the trip. She was, but she was also just ready to get away from all of the drama of the day. After seeing how Brennan treated Killian, Emma couldn't be upset with her mother's insistent questioning or belittling comments. Compared to Brennan, Mary Margaret wasn't rude, it was just who she was. It was a bit annoying but at least she did it out of love.
Emma was right about her room not changing; even the stupid poster was still there. As she looked at it though, she realized she would have been upset if it had been taken down. It was part of her past, part of who she was, and she could never get rid of it. She laid on her bed for a couple of minutes, staring up at Nick's face, but she couldn't get Killian off her mind. He was only a few feet away and she could practically feel him stewing. She felt bad for him. It wasn't pity, but she felt his pain.
It was another few minutes of her pacing the floor of her bedroom and their shared bathroom before she knocked on the door of the guest room. She noticed that there were no lights on from the sliver below the door. She hoped she wasn't waking him.
She heard some movement from the room, but no answer. Something in her though told her to just go in, so she did.
What she saw utterly wrecked her. Killian was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking towards the bathroom door. His hair disheveled and eyes puffy. In his hand he held a tumbler, which was half full of amber liquid. A bottle sat at his feet, also half empty. Something told her the bottle had been full only twenty minutes ago. Killian was a broken man and Emma made up her mind in that moment that she was going to fix him.

(1/4) confession: i hate l@nce. hate him. so much. he's such an asshole! like i get the writers are going for 'wannabe casanova' but what they've got is a boy that only is insta 'nice' to hot women (in the mermaid episode he was like :/ to the squid head girl until she took it off and was totes hot at which point he immediately did a 180 to ;D), hits on literally everything resembling female, and doesn't take no for an answer. like, a//ura made it pretty clear she's not interested in L@nce.
(2/4) But he keeps flirting with her at very bad moments, despite her being annoyed with it, and tries to police her actions at one point??? (when her at Ke!th run off together he flips shit on her and tries to do an interrogation if anything happened like thats any of his fucking business). Literally the only girls he’s not weird about is P1dge and his mother. It’s fucked him over so many times! N!ma and the mermaids both should have been massive red flags, but he never changes!(¾) Not once does he connect the dots and think hmm maybe there’s a connection -NEVERMIND HOT GIRL. He’s completely oblivious from moral and logical standpoints. I hate it and I hate him. No amount of homesickness and insecurity is gonna make him likeable until he pulls his head out of his ass. Or at least gets called out by someone instead of being told ‘not now’ mid emergency. He doesn’t give a shit about them! That one mermaid girl he was hitting on, she died! Mid episode!(4/4) And L@nce didn’t even ask hey, where did she vanish too is she okay? He didn’t give a single fuck about the missing girl he’d been hitting on literally a day ago, he was too busy with the NEW pretty mermaid girl and the hot mermaid queen! I hate him, I hate how the writers handle him, and he needs to get called the fuck out by someone soon. Preferably A//ura. Or P!dge. Or Sh!ro. Thank you for hearing of my rage.
ok i was about to go to sleep but since its the l@nce ask i decided to wait a bit, because uhhh, welp he’s important to me and he’s probably the only reason why i still watch this show lfdkjgkf im going to try and be as, well, as objective and logical as i can so please bear with me also im sorry i cant really salt with you here. like, i partially salt with you but not entirely since, you know, l@nce stan thing and all that. okay anyway, here we go and it probs gonna be long so im really, really sorry or something. also also before i Really start i want to thank hd, jo and ciel bcos brainstorming with them was a top notch way to figure out what i want to say fldkgj
im gonna start with the flirting thing first in general, then move to @llura, then to other instances you brought up then to lance himself, just so we have some outline here okay? okay. so here i go:
the flirting thingy - i get why it bugs you and it bugs me too, especially with @llura. writers definitely overuse it and use it as a comedic device (not working but shhh). on the other side, aside from @llura (which im going to talk about more in a sec, pls be patient with me, pls) girls usually don’t react negatively to it? pl@xum literally kissed him on the cheek, aliens at the mall and on that first planet in s3 laughed and generally it seemed to be rather innocent if annoying because of how often it was portrayed. the flirting alone isn’t really bad, considering his insecurities and strive for attention its not surprising that he does it and its never a serious thing. and most of the team reacts with just groaning and rolling their eyes, no one ever told him, 100% seriously and definitely, to stop. the thing is, writers portray his flirting in a really shitty way (like most things, jesus christ) 90% of the time??? which brings us to the next point here:
@llura or rather how her and l@nces relationship was portrayed so far. now theres no denying it that the part where he keeps on flirting with her and she keeps turning him down and so on is, well, pure shit and we all want (or rather wanted it considering how he dropped the act in s3) it to stop. while it doesnt make it okay, its still important to note that he never really seems to be 100% serious with his pick up lines and it looks like he uses it as a way to lighten up the mood (cue him using them in, well, not really appropriate moments). and while we’re at it, lance hardly ever opposed to any of her orders (aside from the time when he and hunk argued with the rest of the team about coming back home but, like, can you really blame them for that?). also the thing that you brought up, him flipping his shit out when she left with keith was completely justified??? she and k/eith literally left without any notice??? when they were constantly followed by galra and there was a war going on???? of course he was worried out of his mind, who wouldnt! and when she was captured by the gala he was one of the people who wanted to go and save her. like, you cant really say he doesnt give a shit about her. its further proved by how he acted in s3? he completely dropped his flirting with her, never acted angry when she was chosen to be the blue paladin, he even said he was happy that it was her specifically! when sh!ro came back he never asked @llura to step down either, he thought she was better suited to do it than him he constantly checked if she was feeling alright in blue and we could see how much their relationship improved in this season. i would go as far as to say that they actually became a p good friends.
now, onto the other instances you mentioned:
pl@xum - here its kinda tricky tbh, on one side, yeah, its not really okay that he started to be all over the moon for her after she took of the squid, on the other hand he knew her for, like, a day at best?? its not really enough time to fall in love with personality itself (especially considering how much happened during that time?) and you cant really tell that being attracted by someones good looks is something bad? it was portrayed in shitty way but then again, its more of writers fault. and while we’re at it, even if he wasnt interested in her romantically, he never disrespected her??? he took her seriously after she and her group explained what they did and why they did it and helped her free her planet.
fl/rona - okay i seriously dont know why you brought up this? he had maybe one convo with her and during it or right after he was literally drugged with poisoned alien food, then he got kidnapped, stung by a squid and had to fight and save the entire kingdom. he probably thought she was in the palace or somewhere in their village? with so much happening of course it could slip his mind.
ny/a - well, im not really sure how to approach this one but im gonna try. yes, l/nce going after her was reckless and not his best moment but also?? literally everyone on the team except for h/nk seemed to trust them? and n/ma not only reciprocated/pretended to reciprocate but also played at his insecurities (aka pulling the “if you wont then im sure k/th aka the boy that you consider ur rival aka the boy that is one of the sources of ur insecurities will take me to his lion). and lance maybe has a strategical mind and works good on missions and in the heat of a moment but? he’s also an insecure teenager and teens tend to do reckless things when they want to impress someone. plus, lance generally seems to be rather trusting? hes not as guarded as, lets say, k/eith, hes thrives on social interaction and likes meeting new people. you can see it in the way he wanted to hang out with p/idge in the garrison even though she probs always turned him and h/nk down or how he was able to confide in coran despite knowing him for week at best or in how quick he was to play around and take selfies with complete strangers from the planet he just helped save in s3 and how well he worked with blade of m/rmora in same ep. hes quick to trust and become friends, which makes him an easy target for people like n/ma but overall isnt really a bad trait.
all in all, lance is a very, very complex character and cant really be judged only basing on his flirting. hes much more than that. and while i understand where you’re coming from i cant really agree with you fully. the way his flirting is portrayed is shitty but hes not a bad person at all.
sorry its so long btw, im just,,, kinda passionate dl
#mod riem#just anon things#answerstetique#me: i have to get up early so i better go to sleep now#also me: writes an entire meta about my fav at midnight

About Me
Tagged by three people, so I’ll name them as we go! Thank you all for the tags, answers are under the read more!
Rules:
1. Post the rules 2. Answer the questions given to you by the tagger 3. Write 11 questions of your own 4. And tag 11 people
So without further ado...
First up, questions from @star-tear! (Thank you for the tag, love ya!)
1. Favorite season and why?
Autumn, definitely! It has temperate weather like spring, but leaning towards the cooler side and with less allergens in the air.
2. If you could tell your past self one thing you know right, what would it be?
“You’re not special, he’s just nice to everyone!” or “Did you know that a mantis shrimp can punch so hard it creates light?”
3. Favorite lotion brand?
Does pawpaw ointment count as lotion?
4. Favorite quote from a book?
“ You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
- A.A. Milne, from one of the Pooh Bear books
Honourable mention to Wheel of Time:
“Advice! Nobody tells us how to be men. We just are.” “That,” Egwene said, “is probably why you make such a bad job of it.”
5. If you were given the opportunity to choose between having unlimited power or the ability to foresee into the future, which would you choose?
What sort of power? Like, spirit-ball power? Raw muscular strength? I’d find a way to hurt myself either way, so I’d say peeking into the future.
6. Favorite Disney movie?
WALL-E. Pixar is Disney, it counts.
7. One thing you wish you could tell someone from your past?
“I’m still thinking about that cheesecake.”
8. One place in the world you want to visit?
The USA, particularly LA! I want to visit many places, but this one has so many fantastic people and I’m kinda homesick.
9. Does dessert go before or after the meal?
Why not both? After.
10. Favorite sea animal?
Urchins Honestly, I love so many sea creatures. I’d have to say a cuttlefish, though!
11. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be?
Hm... there was a big kerfuffle for me in 2012, so I guess I wouldn’t have done the thing that caused that?
Next up, questions from @myboynagito! (Thank you and much love, Baguette!)
1. First anime character you would have died for?
*long sigh*
This guy. Lelouch vi Britannia. Time to bury myself again.
2. Your favorite trope for a character. What are the characteristic that would make you like them no matter what?
Incongruity between appearance and personality. I adore happy-go-lucky characters that are surprisingly knowledgeable/ready to cut someone, and characters that are frightening to look at but actually really sweet.
3. A book that made you cry?
Wheel of Time. The last book kicked me in the gut. I was okay up until a certain part with a certain girl and then I was a mess for the rest of the battle. Which was half the book. I cried because I was happy. I cried because I was sad. I cried because I was stressed. I cried because no goddammit he should be dead kill him let him die he’s the worst chara-
4. Do you think you’d be able to murder someone?
Maybe. It really depends. I know a lot of ways how, and physically I’m pretty sure I could, but I’m too rational and empathetic for my own good.
5. Your favorite character right now from any work and why?
hhhhHHHHhhh Lance, from Voltron.
6. Someone you’d like to see in real life?
Waifu, Baguette, Alice and Liz! I know the question says someone but you’re all too important.
7. Music or silence?
Music.
8. If you could learn any language, what would it be?
French, probably!
9. If you could bring back to life any character from any book/movie/tv show, who would it be?
In an effort to avoid spoilers: Tadashi from Big Hero 6 because HE DIDN’T DESERVE THAT, DANGIT.
10. You can make your otp happen, but one member will die in the next 10 chapters by pushing a big red button. Do you push it?
*slams the soukoku button* Die Dazai
And last but certainly not least, @leio13! (Thank you, Rika, I’m so happy! ❤)
1. What show are you embarrassed to admit you once liked (or still do like)?
... *mumbles* My Little Pony.
2. Who was the first character you really, really hated?
Light Yagami. The first character I can remember hating with every shred of my being, and from the first anime I watched, as well!
3. What is your favorite food, and do you know how to make it?
Chicken Schnitzel! I can cook it, but I’ve never tried making it from scratch.
4. Someone cuts in front of the line you are on to buy limited items. How do you react?
5. What if that someone was your fictional crush/favorite character?
6. What do you think of the name Pubert?
My first thought was of a Veggietales episode where one of the characters says “Who’s going to name their kid Cubert?” and I think that applies nicely here. Not a good name.
7. If you could invent an ice cream flavor for Ben & Jerry’s, what would it be? (I want names too)
It’d taste like fried chicken. I would call it
8. What is the worst name you have ever named anything? (stuffed animals, real animals, your child, etc.)
When I was little, I named a toy giraffe “Giraffe-y” and a fish “Bubbles”. I have not grown out of it - my main character is named Dasher. That is a terrible name but it refuses to go away. Save him. Save me. Please help.
9. What are you avoiding with a 50 ft pole?
My responsibilities.
10. If the sky was red, how would you explain it to children?
“Well, that’s certainly something! How about we stay inside for a bit?”
11. Do you know Oyashiro-sama?
Who?
And that’s it! It took forever to write, my word, it’s been two hours! If you have any other random questions feel free to drop an ask by - within reason, of course.
I’m not going to follow the rules because I’m boring as hell and can’t think of an questions! Have a good day y’all!

lance’s character development in season 2:
why it does exist and what it means for him going into season 3
talking mainly about lance’s insecurity issues, his lion, his rivalry with keith, and what shiro’s disappearance means for him in the future
It really feels like Lance is excluded from the group in season 2. Sometimes, this is his own doing—like when they all visit Ulaz’s base, and Lance volunteers to stay behind. The first time I saw that scene, it was weird. He’s notably absent. Later in Escape from Beta Traz he again removes himself from the rest of the team—not so much physically as metaphorically, but he does talk about everyone else in glowing terms before admitting he sees himself as Voltron’s “seventh wheel.”
Other times, circumstances are out of Lance’s control. In Across the Universe, Shiro and Keith’s lions crash together, and the episode ends up being a team bonding kind of thing. Lance and Hunk however deal with the opposite—In the Depths isn’t about them working together so much as how Lance operates without him. And we know that Lance is completely thrown when the mer people declare he’s their savior, doesn’t really think he’s a worthy leader. He wants to be, though. That’s why he insists on going to the Marmora HQ with Shiro, why he starts looking for opportunities to step up and do more. And when Shiro chooses keith instead? You can tell that rejection hurts. He wants his team to trust him, to be more inclusive of him. And even before that, when Allura and Keith take off together? Lance takes that as a personal offense. Again, he’s being left behind. Obviously, neither of these instances are meant to hurt Lance, but he takes them both personally nonetheless. Throughout season 2, you definitely get the impression that Lance is unconsciously distancing himself from the rest of the group. Even if they all agree he’s part of the team, Lance’s own insecurities keep him from seeing that. But more on that later.
For now, let’s talk about Blue lion a bit. Because if Keith’s mother was the blue paladin, that opens things up for lots of character development between the two. Keith squinting at all of Lance’s little habits and mannerisms, trying to see in him what Blue saw in his mom. Lance in turn trying to be more open, cooling off a little and learning to build a bridge. And of course, if Keith’s mom does have something to do with blue, we also get this lovely quote from Allura—that she wanted to “shield” shiro “from the paladins’ dark past.” Paladins here is plural. If Lance does end up uncovering more info on the last blue paladin, it might not exactly be what Keith wants to hear. Just sticking with the lion itself though, the fact that it’s found on earth says something about Lance. We know that he’s the most homesick of course.
Another thing. Keith sensed blue lion a full year before its own paladin did, even though it wasn’t too far from Garrison grounds. Why? Honestly, I think that’s his alien parentage at work. Some people have speculated that Keith is also partially Altean, and can sense the lions via druid abilities like Haggar and allura. It could also just be the fact that he’s more hypersensitive as a galra—we know that black lion was built on a galran home planet. Or, returning to my first point, it could be Keith’s mom was the previous pilot. Either way, the fact that Keith even brings this question up, combined with blue lion’s questionable arrival on Earth and the notable absence of any information on how it chooses its pilot, I definitely think it all points to blue lion’s origins being explored a lot in season 3. And with that, a lot more focus on Lance too.
And if Keith does take black for season 3, will they do a complete throwback and have Lance take red while giving Allura blue? To be honest, I think that’s really unlikely. Lance is very attached to blue, which we see when he tells Keith just how “very happy” he and blue lion are together. We also see just how in tuned to his element he is during In the Depths. Like Pidge, he gets a whole episode devoted to his affinity for his lion's element. It renders the backdrop of that episode pointless if you say “Well actually, forget that, Fire is his thing now.”
In fact, everyone but Keith has actually demonstrated a bond with their lion’s element in VLD—Shiro projecting to the astral plane, Pidge in Greening the Cube, Lance throughout In the Depths—and I don’t think it’s pure coincidence ground guardian Hunk had a whole story arc dedicated to a golem like species that live beneath (and in harmony with) the Balmera’s lower crust. Hunk does describe Shay as a “rock” after all. Bottom line, Lance has shown a significant bond with both his lion and its element. And he really doesn’t want to give her up. Original red paladin or not, I don’t think he’s leaving blue anytime soon.
Now, another big thing for lance is his rivalry with keith. But this season, keith seems pretty mellow about it. He’s really not confrontational at all. When Lance snaps at him for talking about blue lion, you can see keith looks visibly concerned and tries his best to explain. Lance cuts him off. When Lance gets in shiro’s face about taking keith to the Marmora base, you’d think he would say something. Season 1 keith would say something. But he keeps quiet and just gets this kinda sad and accepting look on his face like “Yeah, you’re right.” The only time Lance baits him and he pushes back is when theyre trapped in the elevator. but even then, he’s not as irritated as lance, still tries to play mediator by telling him its okay and they’ll just sit on opposite ends of the pool, whatever.
They have more of a playful rivalry thing going in season 1, exchanging barbs back and forth. But Keith never really snaps back in season 2. More than that, he never instigates. He does hit him with the space spore like a snowball, but that was all the paladins playing a game, not a direct attack on Lance’s character like when Lance calls him out for how hotheaded he is. So why isn’t he as focused on their “rivalry”? Honestly, I think he’s too tired. Exhausted. Keith has other shit on his mind, stuff like, Wait I’m Galra?? and Shiro Wants me To Lead and he Might Die and Leave Me All Alone Again, F u c K. He doesn’t even entertain the rivalry thing because he’s got enough problems to deal with. But more than that, he knows Shiro won’t be there forever, so he takes up the initiative and starts to damage control by mediating on his own. I also think he’s starting to acknowledge that Lance makes good points about how impulsive he is. So instead of snapping back, he’s trying to work on that.
But Lance is still picking fights. Going back to how Shiro turns down Lance for the Marmora mission, I do think part of his resentment has to do with Keith and Shiro. Shiro spends all of Season 2 preparing Keith to be leader, but Lance—hell, no one else—on team Voltron knew this. To Lance, it just looks like Shiro plays favorites. And we see that he really values Shiro’s opinion of him. I mean, he spends a whole episode wallowing in self pity but it takes literally one compliment from Shiro to boost his confidence. He wants Shiro to see him as being part of the team, wants Shiro to trust him to take charge and do more. And we know that Lance sees Shiro as his hero, sees him as a brave pilot despite his critical mission failure—can you imagine? People at the garrison talking about Kerberos like it’s the greatest tragedy in the modern age of space exploration, saying the name in hushed whispers as a cautionary tale.
The person who crashed, got his whole team killed, bright eyes and a warm smile beaming next to the scrawling phrase Pilot Error. Shiro should be Infamous. But Lance, a determined pilot who struggles with Fighter Class himself, points at him and proudly says, “That’s my hero.” Did he not believe the garrison reports? Did he believe them but still believe in Shiro’s integrity more? Kinda makes you wonder. Especially given his actual intro to shiro. Shiro thanks him, then goes in for a handshake—with his galra hand. Lance freezes. You see his hand literally stop and flinch back. He gives shiro this sad look, like he’s coming to terms with all the hell this guy must have been through. Then he smiles. Maybe because he never thought he’d be thanked by the garrison prodigy, or maybe it was just for shiro’s sake, to try and put him at ease. but you can tell in that scene that earning Shiro’s trust and respect means something. Literally all it takes is one compliment from shiro to pull him out of his melancholy in Beta Traz, to make him feel like the team Needs him.
Still, regardless of what he thinks, both Shiro and the plot sideline him a lot. He literally has no idea that Shiro often pulls Keith aside just to have these talks about Voltron’s future and his possible replacement. When Shiro disappeared? Keith knew. Hated it, but knew. Had a whole season to prepare and brace himself for it.
Takashi “that guy’s my hero” Shirogane didn’t think that critical information was worth sharing with everyone else—with his team.
So Lance never saw it coming.
And you just know Keith going “Yeah, Shiro and I talked about this a lot—in case something happens, I’m supposed to lead Voltron. We didn’t think to mention it to any of you guys though,” won’t go over well with Lance and everyone else. He’s going to be feeling a lot of things season three. Upset over the loss of Shiro, obviously. But also very hurt. Betrayed. Because why would Shiro trust Keith and not him? What makes Keith a better leader than him anyway? Why was Keith always getting ahead? Why didn’t Shiro ever think he could keep up? Why didn’t Shiro ever tell them if he was so sure he wouldn’t make it? He’s gonna be the one to really challenge Keith’s leadership.
Last note: sorry, I realize i didn’t really put in anything for Hunk and Pidge, but I’m thinking ill make the garrison trio a separate post. Lance and Pidge especially have lots of good bonding moments season 2
@aethergeologist thanks for the input! I hope this was what you were looking for
