Cregan Stark x reader where it’s very hot in her homeland and the two are visiting for a wedding and Cregan is having a hard time adjusting to the heat while also getting horny because of readers outfit that’s a bit more revealing to relive her from the hot weather.
You don't even understand how much I love this request <3
warnings: p in v sex, cregan is so horny he starts ignoring her, oral (f receiving), wife reader, appearances are not specified
wc: 1.1k
Since you had married Lord Cregan Stark, you had spent most of your time in the cold and snow, forgetting what it was like in The Reach. You became more accustomed to the Northern climate.
When your sister had sent a raven to the North, declaring her marriage to the sitting lord of House Oakheart, you insisted to Cregan that the two of you were to attend.
Over two months after you left Winterfell, you had arrived in your homeland.
“Returning from the North, Lord and Lady Stark!” The guards called out to everyone at your arrival.
Your sister rushed to you and your husband, pulling you away, she looked you up and down, shaking her head.
“Sister, these gowns will not do! It is far too warm for your furs, we must get you changed!”
She motioned for more maids to tend to your lord husband as she pulled you to her chambers.
Gathering much more appropriate gowns, she helped to dress you. The gown was much more low cut, showing off the cleavage you had, the sleeves were shorter, the material was thinner, and it felt so much lighter on your skin.
“There you go. So much better! Now, lets meet our lord husbands in the Hall.”
She wrapped her arm in yours, walking within the long castle hallways. Most of her guests had already arrived at Highgarden, greeting the two of you as you passed.
Walking in, your husband’s soft gaze turned to a more hardened one. You approached him, brows furrowed, “Everything alright?”
He swallowed sharply, kissing the temple of your head, “Great!”
You weren’t convinced, but you dropped it, it was time to celebrate your sister and her soon-to-be husband.
The morning of the wedding was intimate, waking with your husband at your side, then leaving the chambers early to help your sister prepare.
All throughout the wedding, your husband would barely look at you, provoking insecure thoughts. Had he found another lady in The Reach that he liked better? Had he taken a whore to bed? Did he no longer find you attractive?
Your usually doting and loving husband would barely look at you, and let alone touch you, but today wasn’t about you, and you needed to let it go, but you couldn’t.
During the after-ceremony celebration, you distanced yourself from Cregan, since that’s what he seemly wanted. You hadn’t spoken or talked to him, until he had pulled you outside of the feasting room by the arm.
You pouted at him, “What is it, husband?”
“Husband? You never call me that!”
You’re up against the wall, your arms crossed over your chest, facing him. He looked so different in lighter clothing.
“Well, you never ignore me.”
He sighs, running his hand over his face, “Forgive me. I am having trouble adjusting to the weather…it is making me quite irritable… and you are not making it any easier.”
“I?”
“You and these gowns,” you started to piece together what he was saying to you.
You smirked at him, “Do you not like them? I think they are rather pretty.”
He nearly growls at you, pulling you into him by the waist. His lips go directly to your neck, sucking gently.
“Do I like them? I can’t even fucking look at you without getting hard.”
You reach your hand down to grope at his crotch, easily feeling his length in the thin linen pants he was wearing. He grunts at you, “See what you are doing to me.”
He looks down at your cleavage, rushing to kiss lower down your chest, but you scold him, lightly pushing him away, “Cregan! Not here… the celebration…”
“Then find me somewhere that I can have you.”
You pull him with you to your chambers, shutting and barricading the door. He grabs the fabric on each breast, ripping the fabric straight down the middle.
“Cregan!”
“I’ll get you a new one. But this one… this one is mine.”
He animalistically pulled your dress off, leaving you in your small clothes, looking you up and down, he licked his lips, his eyes darkening.
Grabbing your small clothes and ripping them off, your husband turned you around, bending you over the small couch in your room, your back to his front.
He kicked your legs open, dropping to his knees and immediately attaching his lips to your sweet spot.
He licked and sucked at you like a man starved. His tongue lapping up and down your womanhood. You writhed in pleasure, finding it hard to stay still.
He added his large fingers to his craft, thrusting and curling them in and out of your cunt. Almost immediatly after adding a third finger inside of you, a wave of pleasure hit, you whole body shaking.
He came up to your lips and kissed you, “Your cunt has never tasted sweeter, my love.”
He picked you up, walking to the bed and throwing you down. You crawled to the edge of the bed where Cregan angrily fumbled with the ties on his pants, getting on your hands and knees and shaking your cunt in his face.
Finally getting his pants down, he snatched you by the waist, shoving his hard cock into you. You screamed out at the contact, but he quickly put a hand over your mouth, “You don’t want the guards to come interupt us now, do you?”
You shook your head and swore to be quieter.
He fucked you hard, thrusting at a pace that he’s never reached before. The pent up anger he had with himself for not taking you sooner came out.
Lewd sounds filled the room. The sound of your and Cregan’s moans, and the sound of him pounding into the back of you only made you wetter.
He grasped your neck, pulling your body up to flush your back to his front. He nipped at your ear as you felt your second orgasm approach. His thrusts got sloppier, you knew he was close too.
A string of profanities came out of his mouth as your cunt tightened and squeezed his cock. He filled you with his seed and pulled out.
Flopping down on the bed, you were breathless; Cregan fell next to you, kissing you softly.
“I shall never restrain myself for so long ever again,” he laughed.
You giggled at his words, “You shall never ignore me for so long ever again.”
He smiled, kissing you one more time before getting up to pick up all of your garbs. You sighed, staring at the ceiling, knowing you had to return to your sister’s celebration.
Though, at your return with a new dress, flushed cheeks, and messy hair, the rest of Westeros will surely see how much the Lord and Lady of the North truly love each other.

horror stories around campfire
All the crew was gathered on logs around the campfire. Lost in the depths of a new island, you had found a cave to serve as your home and protect you from bad weather among the immensity of the jungle that surrounded you.
The alcohol was thus happily welcomed while waiting for the log to recharge. Fortunately, after a week of waiting, you could finally leave tomorrow during the day.
Tonight was a celebration.
Unfortunately, the lack of rum which had run out due to the boredom of the stay as well as the fatigue linked to the heavy and humid atmosphere of the climate, had pushed you to keep the party reasonable. So you were sitting around the fire, laughing and talking to each other, while you more or less finished your meal. The alcohol was flowing but it was still in appropriate quantities compared to some other evenings.
However, Yasopp stood up and began to speak. With a piece of meat still in one hand and a glass in the other, he told the crew how he had once been chased by a village of cannibalistic men when he was a child.
You stood staring at him, caught up in the frightening story even though you knew it was made up, without flinching.
But you suddenly jumped when, during a tense moment, you felt something suddenly jump on your back. You reacted violently because of the surprise and, at the same time, you spilled some of your beer on your knees and your hand. Shanks' hot laugh rang in your ear a while before that of your other comrades.
You then felt the captain wrap his arms around your waist as he rested his chin on your shoulder. A bit humiliated at being made fun of for spilling your alcohol on yourself, you unceremoniously removed him from you. However, far from being offended, he immediately returned to the charge by taking your hand while miming an exaggerated apology.
Now that the crew's attention was once again diverted to the shooter, you let yourself soften at Shanks' comical behavior.
You even almost smiled at his excessive bowing.
But, as he moved in for the most ridiculous hand kiss, you felt the wetness of his tongue licking a length across the top of your hand. You quickly took it away, disgusted. For his part, he laughed at your pout.
“You would be delicious to eat, too.” he stated, returning to his own glass while throwing you a wink over the top.

halloween party
Tonight was the night dedicated to celebration in Alabasta so all the cities across the country had set up open-air markets as well as light decorations all over the streets.
And Alubarna was not to be outdone.
So, when you learned that Vivi couldn't leave the castle that evening because none of her guards were available to take her to the capital, it didn't take much for you to sneak over her room. After some coaxing, she ended up putting on a colorful veil to hide her well-known hair and face from the population before letting herself be guided out of her palace.
You then very quickly reached the scene of the celebrations.
Everywhere in the streets, the shops were decorated with pumpkin-shaped lanterns while the trees and walls were illuminated with several hundred small orange lights that twinkled like stars in the night. Their hue was less vibrant than that of the Alabasta sun but they seemed no less captivating to the princess. In the air, the smells of pumpkins and spices were everywhere along with those of hot alcohol.
The stands sold all kinds of items.
There were drinks, hot meals and biscuits. But there were also spiritual stands with tarot cards or pendulums. Some others instead sold toys such as ghost balloons and fake spiders.
Around you, families were weaving while children were happily rowdying among the passersby.
Around a stand, you felt Vivi take your hand to pull you into a nearby street. She then pinned you against the wall, out of sight, before diving towards your lips to kiss you. As quickly as she had leaned in, she drew back until her face was visible. There, you saw her with a beautiful smile on her lips and her eyes shining with happiness while her face stood half lit by the lights of the festivities.
"Thanks." she whispered before leaning toward your lips again.

couple costumes
"Please! Please! Please!" Ace begged while kneeling in front of you, head bowed, with his hands raised above his head in prayer. "Let me choose our costumes. I've been thinking about it for months!"
Because of the time he was begging you on the ground, you began to hesitate. In itself, you hadn't planned any particular costumes for the crew's Halloween party tonight but you couldn't help but fear the worst. Especially coming from him who had the habit of walking around shirtless everywhere in just his shorts. You were a little afraid of the amount of fabric he would offer you for tonight.
However, you end up accepting: it was just a party, you weren't going to die for a revealing outfit!
Ace immediately jumped for joy before kissing you right on the lips and running off to his room. You just had time to hear him say to wait for him before he closed the door behind him. You then waited quietly behind the door, afraid to see what costume he was going to show up in. You prayed he wouldn't take anything too sexy or pirates like Boa Hancock.
Finally, the door opened ajar.
"You are ready?" he asked without you being able to see him yet.
Once you had nodded, he opened the door wide and came out like a beautiful devil.
The first thing that caught your eye was the huge purple afro wig he wore on his head. Then came his dark red leotard, which left nothing to the imagination considering how little it covered and how tight it was. And then came his fishnet stockings. At this point, you weren't even surprised that he was wearing stiletto boots, a pearl necklace, and heavy makeup with huge false eyelashes. His fake tattoo on his chest didn't even make you blink anymore, either.
Proud of himself, he spread his arms from his body before turning around to show you the costume completely.
"How do you find me?" he asked you, proud as a peacock. “I am one of the abominable commanders of the Revolutionary Army!”
"You're... original?"
The answer seemed to suit him since he gave you a bright smile before retracing his steps to bring you back your outfit.
When you arrived later at the party, he wore his outfit like a child at the school fair while you stood by his side, still stunned. You were dressed in a long two-tone orange and white fur coat as well as the rest of the paraphernalia. You wore a wig of the same colors with a bow tie and a glass of wine already filled.
You hadn't expected that when he asked you to choose your costumes.

black cat
As you walked down a dimly lit street with Law, you heard something moving next to you.
Then a meow.
Immediately, a completely black cat came out of the darkness before walking directly towards both of you. He went first to the surgeon and rubbed against his legs while letting out little meows. However, when he saw that the man wasn't even looking down at him, he changed his target and came towards you.
He then started his trick again, this time rubbing against your legs.
“Don’t do that,” Law growled when you reached down to pet him. “it’s not hygienic.”
Yet, that didn't stop you from plunging your hand into his fur. It was soft and warm and the cat immediately began to rub against your palm, begging for more petting. He didn't seem aggressive at all so you bent down completely to take him into your arms.
"No!" the surgeon continued while raising his eyes to the sky when you were at eye level with the feline. “It’s dirty, you don’t even know where it went!”
But you continued to pet the animal, now snuggled comfortably against your chest, while looking at your lover who was desperately trying to avoid looking at the creature.
But said creature suddenly turned its eyes towards him and started meowing again while starting to wriggle in your arms.
When you put him down, he went back to the surgeon and started rubbing against his legs again. He rubbed himself against one, then passed between his feet to rub against the other. He made figure eights between Law's ankles then rubbed his head against the bottom of his calf. All while continuing to make his adorably cute little noises.
Finally, Law sighed under your amused gaze and looked away from the stars. He leaned his eyes toward his feet and met those of the feline.
You knew at that moment that the cat had won.
Sure enough, he crouched down to get closer to the animal but, instead of remaining still so he could run his hand through its fur, the feline instead jumped onto his lap. Unbalanced, Law hugged him so that he didn't fall and he took the opportunity to move up towards his neck to place his paws on his shoulders and his head under his chin.
Law stood up to steady himself with the cat still snuggled against him.
When he saw your mocking look, he opened his mouth to defend himself but was immediately cut off by a purr coming from the little creature. He immediately closed his mouth and, avoiding your gaze, he dipped his hand back into the fur to start stroking it again.
"Shut up." he growled.

automn with pumpkin juice
The afternoon was quite cool but you were enjoying the moment thanks to Sabo's company.
After days of rain, you decided to finally go out a little to walk around. There were no bars or anything around, so the walk seemed like a good solution to stretch your legs.
You found yourself walking on the forest paths in your high boots to protect yourself from the puddles, while the red and orange leaves under your feet crunched when you stepped on them. Other leaves of this fiery hue still clung to the branches of the trees around you and gave them the look of flames when they were shaken by the wind. A smell of rain drowned the forest.
When the ride came to an end, you headed home.
You went to take your shower first then Sabo went. He went straight out from the bathroom to the kitchen and heated up two cups of pumpkin juice. As the liquid heated, he lit the fireplace and gathered the soft blankets on the couch in front of your watching eyes.
Finally, he returned to the kitchen to serve the two drinks and returned before placing the cups on the small tables. He sat quietly on the couch by the fireplace and lifted his arm so you could come and snuggle against him.
So you jumped on him to press yourself against his side.
He closed his arms around you and covered you both with the soft blankets. He then collected the two pumpkin juices and handed you your hot cup, which you held pleasantly in your hands, before starting to drink his.
You spent the rest of the afternoon like this: warm in your living room, curled up together, while drinking your juices.

Clown care in the hot weather
Hello friends!
I thought since the time is finally starting to get insanely hot in Spain, i finally have an excuse to talk about Clown Sheding!! If you live in hotter areas, it's common for most clown breeds to shed their uniforms and grow newer, colder uniforms fit for the hotter climate of summer. It really depends on the breed, the time of year and where you live, this process has a different time for each different situation.
I've seen Honk Honk's ruffles around lately and that's what got me into researching this topic. I've found his ruffles are the first things he sheds in general, also during the springtime, but in the summer they've almost been disposed of completely!! I've also noticed he sleeps a lot more and doesn't joke as often, instead prefering to listen to the soft sounds of circus music and elefants in the background. I talked to various clown doctors (as in, doctors for clowns, we all know clown doctors are prone to diagnosing you with lack of laughter), and they all agree his shedding is making him very tired and eepy. The hotter climates of Spain also change their behaviour, since now activities like juggling or squirting flowers are prefered over other more energy consuming activities like riding an unicycle or body comedy (it depends on the breed: Mimes don't change as much because their behaviour is already pretty calm! Tho they might pretend to melt into an invisible puddle when they're too hot, so be careful!!). So Honk Honk being tired and eepy is normal, specially when the shedding has just begun since it takes a lot of energy for them to change into more appropriate costumes, similar to the processes of invertebrates!
So if you live in a hot area, and your clown has just started shedding, what can you do ? First, leave them some space to shed in peace. They're more tired at this time so they tend to look for calm spaces hidden from view to avoid being hunted, and they might also prefer to have company to feel safe. Their makeup is also going to be runny from sweat, so if you can find some nice, clown specific waterproof makeup for them it would help them feel better. You should also renew the water inside their flowers to help them keep cool (unless your clown, like poor Honkie, is unable to squirt, in which case spraying their wigs with cold water might help). Most important, make jokes for them at this time! They're unable to be funny because their sleepy, so make sure to be the fun of their time to keep their fun energy up while the go through this process. High caloric intake is also important: make sure they eat a good variety of hamburgers, hot dogs and, for the breeds that need it, lots of candy! Party Clowns need a lot of birthday cake and snacks like chips in general so make sure to stack up, they're gonna need it!!
Finally, make sure your clown has a lot of balloons to inflate and transform into stuff in this time, to keep them entertained and also help their minds be exercised so they don't loose mass in their brains from not joking around. Hope this little post was helpful!! If you want to add anything, or expand with other breeds like Fools and Pierrots, definetly do so!!

idk I'm just trying to figure out the Vibes of this settings fashion. I'm trying to avoid anything that is like, obviously from any real culture, but if you can't tell from the kimono and dhoti knockoffs, that's hard. Mostly because the rules I've decided on have to do with the sorts of looms that would be being used, what fibers are available+in what qualities, and general climate. Once you narrow down that shit you're left with only a handful of options that have all already been done. Humans been wearing clothes for a real long time. Anyways, fuck you, demon fiber craft lore time
I don't have specific earth place picked out but the gen climate for this part of the setting is very mild. Heatstroke is a concern at the height of summer, frostbite at the height of winter. jorts and a thin hoody would be appropriate clothing for the weather 60% of the year. Just gradient out in those directions from there. Very dry summers, fuck ton of snow in the winter.
Sheep are around but mostly as meat animals with fiber being a secondary product, there's just not enough good grazing land for them since most of the area is forested. There are man made clearings, but full on farms and fields aren't as common as food forests. Plus the dryness of the summer makes a lot of field centric agriculture not an option, it's too dry and there's not enough folk cooperating in the area to manage massive irrigation projects being built up.
What is an option is flax. Grown along rivers most clothing is linen with wool being used for thicker garments and silk for finer garments.
all the work that goes into fabric creation in a pre spinning wheel society means fabric is Pricey. Demonic magic helps, but not a lot. Most garments are not cut or sewn. They're made with whole pieces of cloth wrapped or folded to conserve as much material as possible and then pinned, tied, or otherwise secured.
There's also two very different sorta parts of society to consider for Esti and his outfits.
One is that of his birth. Prim and Proper Nobles who control vast resources largely through negotiation bribery and backstabbing. the Coraxes, their outfits tend to be Expensive, and very much made with a life spent indoors and away from any kind of physical anything in mind. The head family of demons are colorblind, and because of that their fashion, and thus the fashion of those who want to fit in with them, has a very limited pallette, shades of grey and natural fiber colors are the primary elements with red and gold fabric being used as an accent to keep people from thinking too long about their 'fault'. They are totally reliant on their servants to be telling the truth about what color anything is. Esti is from that noble family so his outfits were largely picked out for him when he was to be seen outside their home. big heavy layered skirts that he needs help with when he gets dressed are not his typical vibe but he does appreciate the number of places to hide knives.
Next up are the Cristatuses, Their prevalence and current top dog spot have come from ruthless conquest of nearby territories and a very militaristic vibe. For the common person this mostly just means theyre the big city folk. This is where the money is. Bright colorful fabrics and lots of thin short layers to go with a much more physically active lifestyle of sports and work done outdoors even if it's not work completely suited to being done outside. Breezy. Their wider trade network and attractiveness to merchants also means more options for basically everything to do with clothing accessories and other bits of self ornamentation.
Esti apprenticed with a war lord. His experience with the fashion had a lot more to do with what was practical while on horse back or after the third night sleeping in the dirt. Bright colors stayed but thicker, more minimal, and legged garments were the norm. Armor is a thing, he is an apprentice to a man who should be a prince, he was never supposed to see battle, and was instead kinda meant to become the sort of general who has never actually fought but who knows a lot of tactical theory.
When he finally got to start picking his own outfits he kept with the more neutral and dull colors of his heritage, but the much lighter and easier to move in outfits he was used to wearing throughout his training. Minimal and dull by Cristatus standards, unrefined and brutish by those of the Corax. Very comfortable for him.
#hi i have 7 spinning wheels. that is not a joke. I am very autistic about fiber craft#i paid for 2 of them#people keep giving me things with treddles.#anyways Yeah the corvids are stuffy nobles and the peacocks will find Valhalla through invasion. because that was Objectively the funniest#way to do that.

What to Do If You Get Lost in the Wild
Even in the age of smartphones and GPS, stories of hikers getting lost in the wilderness still regularly appear in the news. How do people get lost even when carrying their devices, and what should you do if you ever find yourself in that situation? To answer those questions, I called up Creek Stewart, a wilderness survival expert and instructor and a longtime friend of AoM. Creek is the author of numerous books on wilderness survival and has been the host of several Weather Channel shows on the subject, including S.O.S.: How to Survive. Besides his over two decades of survival experience, Creek told me that hosting S.O.S. gave him a unique perspective on how people get lost in the wilderness and what separates those who survive and get rescued quickly from those who flounder. When he hosted the show, he interviewed dozens of folks who had gotten lost in the wild, often in popular national parks filled with other people. Below Creek shares his insights on how anyone can become disoriented when traversing the great outdoors and, more importantly, how to stay safe if it happens to you. Pre-Trip Preparation: How to Ensure Your Quick Rescue in the Event You Get Lost Creek says there are three things you can do before your trip that, should you manage to get lost during it, will dramatically increase your chances of a quick rescue and a safe return: 1. Tell people where you’re going and when to expect you back. Do this even if you’re going on a simple day hike near your home. 2. Ensure your phone is fully charged and bring a power bank. If you plan on using a digital app/map to guide your hike, you’ll of course want to make sure your phone is fully charged and has a backup power source as well. A phone is of no use if it doesn’t have power. People get lost, their phones die, and they can’t figure out where they are and how to get back on track. A dead phone not only contributes to getting lost, but prevents a quick rescue as well. Creek told me the one thing that all the people who had a slow rescue had in common was that they went out into the wild without a fully charged phone and without a way to power it back up. “The people who got found quickly typically had a fully charged phone, so when they got lost, they could make a call or at least put out a distress signal with GPS,” he told me. If you’re looking for a power bank for outdoor excursions, I like and use the S.A.B.A.N.I. Portable Charger 35000mAh Power Bank. You can charge your iPhone up to five times with this power bank. 3. Consider carrying a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB). Creek recommends buying a PLB or satellite communicator. While they’re pricey and require a subscription, they will allow you to send a distress signal and share your GPS location even when you don’t have cell service. Garmin makes two satellite communicators: * Garmin inReach Messenger Handheld Satellite Communicator. This device is also a Personal Locator Beacon, and it works with your smartphone, so you can text even when you don’t have cell service. * Garmin inReach Mini 2. It allows you to text and also has maps and weather forecasts. It’s more expensive than the original inReach due to those additional features. Doing those three things before you leave for your trip will ensure you get found within 24 hours of getting lost in the wild. In addition to doing those three things, Creek also recommends that you dress appropriately for the climate and bring some essential gear for any wilderness outing, even a short day hike. Pack the essentials we list here. Having those things on you in the event you get lost will help you stay safe and comfortable in the outdoors while you’re waiting to be found. The Psychology of Getting Lost If you stay on marked trails when you’re out in nature, your risk of getting lost is very low. Before you begin a hike, download an offline map on your phone in case you don’t have cell service. Again, make sure you have a power charger. And carry a paper map as a backup, too. The mode of transportation may affect the road conditions in Thailand
INTRODUCE
In the past two months of living in Thailand, transportation has remained an essential part of my life as a student. And during this period of life, I discovered and felt that transportation methods may have a certain impact on the road conditions in Thailand.Especially after buying a motorcycle with friends and riding it for a long time for the first time, this feeling becomes even more pronounced
So next, let's follow my understanding and perspective to take a look at this issue together
I will roughly divide it into three points based on different modes of transportation to write
1.WALK
In Thailand, there are almost no locals walking here, except for some foreign tourists and guests. Local people also walk unless the distance is relatively close, which is quite interesting, unlike my hometown in China
I remember a long time ago when I came to Thailand for tourism, a local tour guide told us that because walking in Thailand may indicate that he is a poor person (except for situations where the distance is short), people are more willing to ride motorcycles, cars, or bicycles
Moreover, due to the hot climate and variable weather, walking may not be a good choice
In this way, there are fewer people walking, and the impact on road conditions may only be to focus on the main road management and management of vehicles, reducing the scope of management and saving a lot of time and effort to some extent
2.motorcycle
This may be the most commonly used and common mode of transportation in Thailand, and it should also be the most popular.Motorcycles can be seen everywhere in the streets, alleys, and traffic lanes of Thailand, with an extremely large number. This is something that my hometown may not be able to compare, and the local motorcycles in Thailand are the purest, with no other mixed and modified varieties.
Even as foreign students, we have to buy one because it is very convenient to go anywhere and saves a lot of money on taking a taxi
However, because of this, it may be necessary to plan and manage the roads that allow motorcycles to pass, in order to avoid unnecessary accidents, or to improve traffic light times appropriately. Of course, don't forget to wear a helmet when riding on the road. Safety always comes first
3.CAR
Cars are currently the most widely used mode of transportation worldwide, and Thailand's transportation roads are no exception. People can also use cars in many places for daily travel, and compared to motorcycles and walking, cars have more advantages such as the ability to install air conditioning, especially for the hot weather in Thailand. However, the cost of a car is relatively huge, especially when buying one. I think the number of cars in Thailand is average, with motorcycles being the most expensive
Of course, I think there is still a lot for cars, especially car drivers, to improve and correct in terms of road conditions. For example, driving habits and speed may not be able to seize the road that originally belonged to motorcycles or force other cars and people to change lanes, which is unsafe. My friends and I have unfortunately experienced several accidents caused by this, but fortunately it didn't end up being that serious, but we still feel very bad. So I think drivers should be educated and trained before driving, and have their own morals, instead of just being able to do whatever they want with their so-called international driver's license. This is also responsible for the property and life safety of others
So the above is my viewpoint, welcome to read, point out problems, and discuss!

@electrivolt said: "Are you, huh... are you sure about this?" With the kind of weather Tural had to offer, once the star-endangering issues were solved Volkner was very much in need of a change to something more appropriate. Or rather, something that wouldn't boil him by just walking around. Turns out, plates of steel aren't very friendly in the warmth. On the bright side, Roark was more than willing to assist on that regard. "Not that I'm complaining—! It looks great, I like it, just—" it just so happens that saving the star multiple times doesn't particularly make for an exercise in building confidence outside of battle. Still, Volkner wasn't lying, especially after all the effort Roark went through not only to find something comfortable, but also taking into account both his personal taste and the discomfort that fresh bandages can lead to. And his love does know him well, the new clothes are just as comfortable as he's used to, with the freedom to let bruises and wounds breathe and all the range of movement he requires when it comes to battle, not to mention the exact range of colors he favors to top it all off. He just isn't all that used to exposed skin, no matter the amount of times he's already been exposed for one reason or another. ( even though those reasons tended to be blood forced out of his body just a little too often for someone supposed to fight at a range regularly. ) "... How does it look?" He just needs a little validation as the last little nudge to really feel completely comfortable stepping out like that, that's all. / smn fit real.
By the time the two and their company had survived the voyage to Tuliyollal, the climate change was already getting to the cat in particular—Roark had a plan very quickly, all to excited to be in t he place where apparently half of his family hailed from. Finally in their cabin and situated, apprised of their duties here as welcomed teammates of the Third Promise, the Au Ra had quickly left as he came, bound for the bustling markets for a change of attire for Volkner. This side of the world was more apt to work with the mixture of arid and humid climates here, the local flora and fauna making something ideal to survive both with minimal discomfort.
A good hour and a half passed before Roark came tumbling back, beaming with his prizes stuffed in a satchel brought along for the ride.
He was already pleased that Volkner was willing to try it all on at least, and give it an honest judgment.
"Of course I'm sure! I'll probably need a change myself, but, that can wait. After all that chaos in Ultima Thule, getting all this armor off was driving Krile and Alphinaud insane... we're gonna be in a land with more bountiful nature than even Labyrinthos could have offered, and that means plenty of opportunities to need a bandage or two... knowing you, ehe.." Roark explains excitedly, but eventually calms down and ends with a warm smile.
"You look great. Very comfortable, to boot," he hums, stepping closer just to wrap his arms around the Miqo'te and squeeze, far too hand to grab at exposed sides that peek out between dyed leather panels, tough hide that can handle Volkner's insistence on standing next to him despite being a caster. "I had to run laps around the markets trying to find that kind of blue you like, ya know!"
Eventually, he lets go, happier when he pauses to take the entire outfit in it's entirety, pleased when he's matched his eyes near perfectly. "Wait.. I take that back. You look handsome." Another gentle smile, those of which have been appearing more and more after the events of saving the star.. again. Among other things, of course, having the island sanctuary to thank for that. He can't just help himself, can he—just smitten over this new adventure, being able to finally see for himself all the stories and sights that were described to him as bedtime stories. Roark can't help but sweep up Volkner and give him a kiss, just radiating excitement in everything he does. Really, if someone doesn't stop him, he's two seconds from diving into the shallow seas just outside their cabin.

i think a pretty big pet peeve of mine is people who don't dress for the weather/ climate and then complain when they are uncomfortable.
like the obvious one is early 20s white girls going clubbing and then freezing their asses off going home because there ain't a jacket among them.
but there are quite a few that are honestly worse.
example: a few summers ago I worked at a kids outdoor camp. for many days it was over 30C (90F) with over 80% humidity.
in other words HOT.
we also had very limited shade and were usually in the full sun for most of the day.
so i made it very clear to all the parents and caregivers that every child was required 4 things:
1. Sunscreen
2. Sunglasses
3. Water
4. Weather appropriate clothing like shorts and t-shirts
for the most part I didn't have any trouble.
kids came with what they needed and I made sure they took plenty of water breaks and applied sunscreen every hour.
but there were two instances where things got bad.
Instance One
a mom refused to have her child wear sunscreen. I don't know if it was a fear of chemicals thing or her just believing that because their family was slightly olive complexed but whatever.
either way this kid went three days in intense UV with no sunscreen.
can you guess what happened?
he got so badly burned that he had to miss the rest of camp.
I was furious.
this kid had to stay home and be miserable all because his mama didn't listen to me about sun safety.
darker skin tones might protect you a little compared to paler ones but at the height of summer it don't matter what shade you are.
You. Will. Get. Burned.
my family is mixed and my auntie always said:
"Black don't crack but it does fry."
so me (white as fuck) and my cousins (50 shades of brown) wore the same amount of sunscreen every summer.
Instance Two
the camp being in Toronto we had a lot of first generation kiddos from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds.
which was awesome. we all learned so much from one another.
except for one family.
they were from Saudi Arabia and had only been in Canada for a few months.
they sent their little girl to camp in full traditional clothing.
- long dress
- legs and arms covered
- head scarf
which in air conditioned spaces or ontario's frozen winters is fine.
but NOT in the middle of summer with no place to cool down.
I tried to talk to the parents about it, telling them that their girl was gonna be hella overheated all day and that was a health risk.
the dad just scoffed and said "our country is much hotter than this and everyone dresses this way she will be fine."
yes its hotter but its also a DRY heat.
I may live in Canada now, but I grew up in the swamps of the south eastern USA.
if there's one thing I know, it's that you can't treat humid heat and dry heat like they are the same thing.
in dry heat, flowy layers like traditional Saudi clothes are perfect. they keep the sun off and encourage breeziness.
humidity don't work that way.
layers will only suck up moisture like a sponge and lead to burns and rashes.
the key is limited clothes (like shorts and t-shirts) and then coating yourself in sunscreen and chugging water to keep up with the sweating.
I tried to explain this to the parents, but they didn't listen.
And you know what happened?
this poor girl passed out from heat exhaustion and we had to call a fucking ambulance.
then. because the EMTs told the parents directly that this girl needed different clothes. the parents took her out of camp entirely!
they would have rather wasted a few grand and not let their kid go to camp all because they refused to dress for the weather.
like I understand dress and tradition and faith are important but not to the point of risking personal safety.
bottom line of these stories: I need people to be less dumb when it comes to how they dress and what they do in extreme weather.
either dress for the day. or have a plan to keep yourself safe like going inside regularly to cool off/ warm up.
temperature-caused aliments are no fucking joke and they can easily be avoided if you actually use your brain.

"Does it snow in Inazuma?" The thought isn't a new one, nor is it sudden; it's something that's been on her mind since the seasons started to turn and the winds grew colder than even nighttime in the desert. A part of her feigned to feel embarrassed when she needed to son her cloak well before anyone else in Inazuma had done more than switch to longer sleeves, and soon she knows she'll be looking for a jacket of some kind.
Her cloak is pulled closed around her, the hood over her head, thoughts of new clothing better suited to climates outside of the desert crossing her mind. She'd brought a few changes of clothes with her, but certainly not with enough coverage to make it through even this kind of cold. She's lucky, perhaps, that she tends to run warm.
"I've never seen snow before. Never went far enough north, or to the dragonspine mountains." when next she speaks, her voice is muffled slightly due to her pulling the fastened edge of her cloak up over her nose and mouth to warm them. "Isn't this snow weather?"
(Today on Dehya hasn't experienced a proper autumn before and is very cold. Also I'm sleeping now, shhh I wrote this in my sleep.)
What she poses is a fair question for the adventurous souls intending to see the world. By now a decent selection of stories have been plucked from their experiences, either a share of exploits, fantastical instances, even to the tougher burdens that their natural energy handles in stride. So imagine Thoma when he captures the way her stalwart demeanor handles the demand to better prepare for the season inevitably arriving.
Autumn's end wasn't too far upon the horizon. The idea in itself makes him thoughtful of how an ailment may try to sneak up on her. A touch of quick thinking led to his hand arching upon the air in command, willing his share of authority over Pyro, and in kind, leading heat to stir closer within their vicinity. Hardly enough visuals to be noticeable, yet, give a few seconds and the surrounding temperature would find itself being willed to a different tune.
Keeping a vigil ear as a bit more of her life is painted, considering how the blazing coals of desert heat, to biting, chilly nights that didn't have any extra such as the ivory cousin was kept clear in mind. A low hum of confirmation begins as they cross another corner in town. "Right on the Mora. Again, that intuition of yours has the sharpness of being spot on."
"Snowfall within this region has been happening for as long as I can remember, add in a fair share of centuries too from the history I've studied. Normally this is when a more avid hunt for flaming flower stamen is popularized. Appropriately adjust them in the home and you'll have a heater of sorts. Naturally, just can't let any electro get close to it."
While the original idea had been to introduce Dehya to the lower mountain range of Mt.Yougou, thoughtfulness triumphs instead. The route they were taking did have a few shops lined up with some deals ripe for the picking.
"Dehya, if I may? Proper preparation is a verse I have no doubt we've practically lived by many suns and moons. How about we take a branching path for a shopping trip? We can even fashion the idea as your first approach to Inazuman fashion."
"..And, even I can't deny that I'm also a lil curious as to how it'd look upon you."

I was actually just looking into this and, while climate change is real and scary and impacting weather in many places- there's also an element of nostalgia and reverse environmental amnesia at play
I found a Reddit thread today where someone was bemoaning the loss of white Christmases in Boston, where I live. then someone else revealed that there had only been 27 white Christmases in Boston since 1892. so why did so many people seem to remember more? because the white Christmases stood out to them and drowned out the wet or gray or green Christmases that also occurred.
I've noticed this myself, in my own childhood memories (I'm 30). I know for a fact that I've only experienced two white Christmases in my life, growing up in Nashville, TN (southern US)- and one was last year. I know that, as a young child, I had snow days followed immediately by days where shorts and t-shirts were appropriate attire. I know that I was stunned to learn, around age 7, that February was part of winter in some places. I know that everyone remarked on how much snowier the 2010s were, in our area, than the previous decade or more, and I know I've seen childhood photos of my Boomer father in shorts on Christmas day in Nashville (on the flip side, he also remembers the Cumberland River freezing, something I've never experienced)
and yet I still catch myself thinking in terms of the strict linear "it used to snow back in Tennessee when I was a kid, and now it doesn't!" narrative
again, THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT WINTER ISN'T MATERIALLY CHANGING DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE. you'd have to be extremely ignorant to think that. only that the day-to-day or year-to-year impacts thereof are very nuanced and still being studied by scientists themselves
(I'm also not trying to invalidate OP's experience- things like this just make me feel a bit less doom-and-gloom to consider, and hope is an important part of climate action. so I'm putting it out there in case anyone else is helped mentally by it)
Christmas as a cultural icon is starting to get really dystopian in a climate sense, december has historically been a time of year in which there would be snow in a significant portion of europe and north america, and the fact that its not even icy this time of year and all the christmas songs and decorations reference a time of year that will likely never exist in the same way again in my life time is so strange.
#keep in mind also that carols and decorations trade on an idealized image of Christmas#and that we have the term 'white Christmas' at all because it's exceptional#if it had been universal in the past there wouldn't be a word for it#it's not This Will Never Exist Again#it's This Will Become Less Frequent And Also The Nature of It Will Change#long post#climate change

Hello everyone, happy midweek!
I'm writing to you on a Wednesday morning and it is 8:27 and just sunrise over here, and when the kids left about 40 minutes ago it was definitely still dark. They rode their bikes to school and are donning lots of reflective gear, as is customary here. As the days get even longer and darker and colder, they will be even more bundled up and have more reflective gear on. People wear a snap-bracelet armbands and dangling reflective tchotchkes on their backpacks and clothes. People take being seen in the dark very seriously here!
The weather has continued to be so mild. I was reading an article in Yle, which is the national public broadcasting organization, or at least the one I know of, that was writing about this warm-front situated across Finland right now. Lapland had a record high temperature this week, or at least higher than it had been any day since the first decade of the 20th century! While we definitely still know that cold, dark, wet, and snowy weather will be upon us soon, I'm trying to appreciate still being able to go out and walk the dog and walk to the university without having to be appareled like a marshmallow. And even then, I'm worried that I won't be warm enough. When I lived in Michigan, even when it was negative 10 Fahrenheit and I thought that I had dressed appropriately for that, I think there is really just no dressing appropriately for that kind of temperature. People here in Finland believe, as surely you've heard people from cold climates say, "there's no bad weather, just bad clothing." I'm hoping I figure out the right clothing!
After our day trip to Jyväskylä last Saturday to visit the Alvar Aalto Museum, we had a very relaxed Sunday. It was the last day of Autumn break and Rowan's tap was canceled that day, so we had absolutely nothing on the calendar. Eric and I went on a long, perhaps 4-mile, walk through the Pyynikki neighborhood, where are there are some Art Deco style apartment buildings and other old wood-clad homes and buildings. We just went on the very edge of the actual Pyynikki nature area, but all of the beautiful leaves are still on the trees and it was such a nice, long walk, on a Sunday afternoon.
Come Monday, everything was back to the routine. The kids' school has just clicked right back into its usual pace and Rowan has a Swedish test this week and we are still waiting to hear how he did on his very stress-inducing Spanish test before the break (oh, late-breaking news as I revise this: we did get the grade because I finally figured out that I can see the grades in Wilma. All of his Spanish studying with Eric paid off!). Cece told me yesterday that math at school is just for review, but math at home with Daddy is where she's really learning new material. She's also just about to finish up the essay I had her write on the Rocky Mountain states, a short story where the protagonist travels through all of the states that constitute the Rocky Mountain region. We didn't really talk about short story design, or at least she wasn't interested in hearing my teachings on the matter. Nevertheless, this story does capture several facts about each of the states, even though the story is more stream-of-consciousness than one that has any crises and resolutions.
So here are a few newsworthy items of recent days. Last night when Cece and I were coming back from gymnastics on the bus, we tried to hop on the tram to head down Hämeenkatu, the main drag. All of the trams routes were all messed up and we ended up at the mall, Ratina. Cece was very perplexed by why all of the "1" trains were in a place where they shouldn't have been and we saw a bunch of out-of-service trains just on the tracks as we walked home. Eric went on a walk at 11:30 p.m., as he typically does, and came back with pictures of two trams that had collided on this big curve here near where we live! Those who have visited us will certainly know what I'm talking about, as this is the intersection that we call "the most dangerous intersection in Tampere." For all of their passion for rule-following and only crossing at a crosswalk when the walking man is green, this curved three-way intersection has absolutely no crosswalks or lights and the trams and the buses and the cars just seem to be using their best judgment. Anyway, two tram cars collided on that curve. No one was injured, but when Eric was out there last night it was a huge operation trying to get one of the trams situated so that it could be pulled away. I will link to a news article here, and you can either have your Chrome browser translate it or just look at the pictures to see the situation.
The other newsworthy item is more of a news flash that we apparently did not get. Cece and I arrived to figure skating yesterday and her groupmates were in their competition dresses. I had not gotten any notification on the WhatsApp group, at least that I noticed, that said they needed to be in their competition dresses on Tuesday. Cece is not doing the first few competitions, and thinks she may start competing in January, because she doesn't really know her program very well, since she's just learning it and it's like three and a half times longer and much harder than her program from last year. in addition to wearing their competition dresses, all of the girls were running through their programs all by themselves on the ice. I happened to be there to watch yesterday, so I got to see Cece do hers. I thought she did really well! I was so impressed that she could remember all of that choreography, because when I watched the model video of the program, I thought we had a long way to go until she could actually replicate that! I guess I was wrong! She did slip onto her bottom on a sit-spin; many of the other little girls also fell on various footwork parts or jumps or spins.
Anyway, after everybody did their programs, they did have some practice time, and the head coach of the club, Satu, was working with Cece on one of her jumps, over and over. I thought it was nice that she was getting so much personal attention, but then when she came off the ice, she was absolutely sobbing and said she may not ever skate after this day!
Fast forward, she doesn't feel that way now after she's calmed down and reflected it a bit. But she said that she was so nervous and feels that she skated so badly and she's so frustrated with herself that she does not have a growth mindset! I told her that I took a video and she watched it and I think that calmed her down and while she thought it wasn't very good, I think she also thought it wasn't as bad as she had seen it through her own mind's eye. And she also was saying that she does want to do a competition sooner than January, but I think that ship has sailed, and we will have to wait for the next one that she is eligible for.
Then, later we went to gymnastics, which I think I've described as a lightly supervised open-gym style free-for-all. While she is in a group and they move from event to event with one coach, I wouldn't call what the "coach" does actual coaching. It's more like being present. She does have a new coach now, and the skill level of the girls in her large, roughly 15- to 20-girl, group is such a wide range. I would imagine it would be very hard to teach anything with a particular structure. In the US, she was headed towards a pre-team group this year and that was very structured towards learning routines that she would be competing. One of her goals was to be in a gymnastics competition this year. I'm not sure that's going to happen here unless we switch tracks or clubs.
Figuring out gymnastics here, even for somebody with my gymnastics background, has been very difficult.
Anyway, on the tumble track (and I was sitting right next to it, working on my computer the against the edge of the arena), the coach was telling the girls to do back handsprings or backflips. No, Cece can't do either of these yet, and she's not a huge risk-taker, but wouldn't you know it, she up and just tried to do a backflip on this trampoline tumble-track! She did get around to her hands and knees but it made my heart drop because that is a skill that she should definitely be taught with careful instruction and spotting. But on the trampoline, it's not too dangerous if she lands on her head (!!!). After class, because I didn't want to interfere like the hawk of an American mother that I am, I did talk to her about asking for a spot when she's doing something she's never done before. I did see another classmate of hers getting spotted on a back handspring, so I know it can be done. She went up to her coach after that and said, "do you think you could spot me on a backflip?" So after class they went back on the tumble track and her coach got her to figure out how she needs to do the preparatory bounces before a backflip and she helped her around, so now Cece at least has a bit of the knowledge of the feeling in the air of doing that trick.
This approach to recreational gymnastics is absolutely making me crazy ;)
Okay, that's all for today! I hope you all have a great week and I'm about to prep for my class and then go off and do some teaching!

Aluminum Slat Fencing: Modern and Low-Maintenance Solutions for Sydney Homes
Aluminum slat fencing has become a common type of residential fencing because of the slim look, strength and durability and easy maintenance. Sydney homeowners are not only looking for contemporary fencing designs, but they also want functionality in regard to their home fencing; thus, aluminum slat fencing is perfect for both modern and traditional houses. This article will focus on aluminum slat fencing, how it is becoming the most popular with Sydney homeowners, and why the slat fencing is a lasting solution for the exterior appearance of your property.
Aluminum Slat Fencing is simply fencing made from aluminum slatsthat can be either a home or commercial structure’s perimeter enclosure.
Aluminum slat fencing is modern style fencing made from horizontal aluminum slats which can be placed in such a way as to give the amount of privacy the owner desires. There is tight spacing between the slats if the homeowner wants seclusion or larger spaces if he needs more ventilation. It is preferred in the contemporary styled homes but is versatile enough to be incorporated with any architecture types.
Aluminum slat fencing is designed with durability at heart in addition to the brilliant appearance of the fencing type. Unlike wooden fences, aluminum is not prone to swelling, decaying or falling victim to termites and thus is a better fencing option in Sydney weather.
Aluminum slat fencing has the following benefits:
There are numerous benefits to choosing aluminum slat fencing, especially for Sydney homes:There are numerous benefits to choosing aluminum slat fencing, especially for Sydney homes:
Durability: Aluminum is also non-corrosive and non-rustable and any kind of wear and tear cannot happen on aluminum fences like it happens with other fencing products. This makes it advantageously appropriate for use in Sydney's coastal climate where salts in the air accelerate the corrosion of most other metals. This type of fencing also has relatively high durability; even in extreme weather conditions such as when it is raining or even when the sun is out in high intensity aluminum slat fencing becomes as strong as it was from the time of installation and still has the same eye appeal.
Low Maintenance: Another advantage that is found with aluminum slat fencing is that of the low levels of maintenance that these fences will need. Aluminum on the other hand is a very low maintenance material unlike wood which needs a constant application of stains, paints, and sealer. That is why it rarely fades, and a homeowner does not need to spend a lot of time washing it, water, and a gentle detergent are good enough to make it look new almost instantly.
Modern Aesthetic: The aluminum slat fencing has smooth flat horizontal appearance; this makes it have a modern trend that compliments most houses. It is a clean cut design and aesthetically pleasing while being in harmony with present day architectural trends. When it comes to home improvements that have an aesthetic appeal, then aluminum slat fencing is one of the best options for homeowners.
Privacy and Security: Thus aluminum slat fencing provides good privacy and especially if the slats are narrowed in between. They can be installed according to the amount of privacy that the owner of the property wants, especially for the backyard or around a swimming pool. Also, the material used in making the door is aluminum which makes it sturdy and has an added advantage of enhancing the security of your house thus becoming a deterrent to anybody planning to break into your house.
Customizable Designs: Flexibility of design is another advantage that is associated with the aluminum slat fencing system. Several options of slat width, colors and the finish can be used in construction to ensure the fence enhances the look of the home exterior. Choose from the conventional colors or any other color with the help of powder-coated finishes so as to complement the whole look of the property with the fence.
Environmentally Friendly: Aluminum is easier to recycle which makes aluminum slat fencing favorite among people who care about their environment. The good thing about slats used in fencing is that most manufacturers employ the use of recycled aluminum, which makes it even friendlier to the ecological system.
That’s why Aluminum Slat Fencingis finding increasing use in Sydney homes.

Perimeter Fencing: Another type of fence made out of aluminum is the aluminum slat fencing that is known for giving a modern and stylish appearance and is ideal for property perimeter enclosing.
Pool Fencing: Other common materials used for fences include aluminum, which is preferred to be used in fencing around the pool since it does not rust. It also has a nice look when accompanied by the glass panels or it can be used alone to give a safe and attractive appearance of the pool.
Garden and Privacy Screens: Aluminum slat fencing is versatile, and therefore it can be used as privacy screens or as garden fencing. It can provide privacy in backyard designs or separate areas of gardens for some purpose and for aesthetics too.
Here Are the Reasons Why Aluminum Slat Fencing is Perfect For Your Sydney Residence
Aluminum slat fencing is definitely the best of both worlds for Sydney homeowners seeking a high utility fence that’s eye-catching as well. This new style suits the modern styled house so well, especially because the aluminum material will keep the fence looking as good as new despite the constantly changing weather in Sydney.
Furthermore, aluminum slat fencing boasts of low maintenance that makes it popular with homeowners who want to beautify their compound but do not have the time to maintain the fence regularly. If you’re in need of higher privacy, security or even a better way to section off your property, aluminum slat fencing is an ideal option.
Final Thoughts
Aluminum slat fencing is a new age and advanced type of fencing product that is widely in demand in Sydney and provides solutions for fencing needs of homes and residential buildings with its features like durability and easy maintenance. Although it has many advantages that include its ability to endure harsh weather conditions, it does not require frequent maintenance, and its beautiful appearance, aluminum slat fencing is being embraced by many homeowners as their favorite choice of fencing.
Whether you’re thinking about changing the look of your home’s exterior or if you are seeking for a practical option for a fence that will provide privacy, security and a modicum of style than aluminum slat fencing may be just what you need for your Sydney home.

Week 10
I created a sketch to better visualise how my proposed artwork may look in a space. As I was considering areas to sketch into, I realised that the initial space I had considered would have a lot of people passing through, and I wanted to create a place where people felt encouraged to pause, not where it would be in the way. I followed the tree line along, and found this large fig tree, and I really loved the dense shadow it provided. It created a retreat from the sun and from the bustle of the fair to meet with the non-human.
I left my first prototype over mid semester break, and unfortunately, the plants were unable to grow through the thick hessian. I did however really like the way that the tannins from the leaves and dirt stained the hessian. They created patterns and openings which were really compelling. I liked that when I presented it, there were correlations made between the stained and the lightened as histories and futures, with the openness representing potentials.
I also had someone show me a wider woven rattan sheet that she bought that would be open enough to let plants grow through it. I like the idea that it would show people the inner workings of the decomposition going on inside the pillows, though it is less supple than fabric. A great deal of rattan products are treated and varnished as well, which limits the biodegradability of the material.
I decided to cut the first iteration open to see what was causing the dye pattern, and to see if the dianella plants were still alive in there. I was able to redeem one of the plants, which had actually rooted quite well, but the second had degraded enough that I couldn't find it. I couldn't see a real correlation between the filling and the dye, except that potentially the eucalyptus leaves and the dried grasses stained less than the other leaves.
I decided to try experimenting with different dyes, and I found some organic cotton to experiment with. It is quite a thin fabric, so I was nervous about how it would look when filled with dirt and leaves. I tried dying a section of it by crushing leaves in it, which gave a very faint colouring with soft green and brown. I wanted to try something bolder, so I used a hammer to crush leaves onto the fabric which gave a much stronger colouration and pattern. I quite like the way it seems to mimic embroidery and homely comfort in the pillow through the patterning, which adds a new degree of welcoming to the space in my opinion. I also experimented with mulberry juice, and I really found the colours it yielded to be striking with violets and indigos splattered across the fabric. With the knowledge that these will not need to be washed, I decided they didn't need a setting agent to seal the dyes in.
I assembled these into a new pillow, and planted the original dianella shoot that survived into the new pillow along with two others. I lightly scored the fabric above the shoots so that the plant could easily break through the tighter weave.
In my research, I encountered the work of Olafur Eliasson. I love the way that he creates such massive scale installations that highlight the power and influence of the non-human world, in a seemingly delicate and ephemeral way. I like the way that he uses weather as a material to impact the pieces that he chooses to display. Natural processes are powerful in giving artworks agency outside of the work of the artist.

A roundup of some of the most popular but completely untrue stories and visuals of the week. None of these are legit, even though they were shared widely on social media. The Associated Press checked them out. Here are the facts:
___
Temperature graph misrepresented to deny climate change
CLAIM: A graph from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration displaying land and ocean temperatures over the last eight years shows that the Earth has been cooling, not warming, proving that global warming from carbon emissions is a hoax.
THE FACTS: A small portion of the graph showing only the period from 2015 and 2022 has been taken out of context to make the incorrect claim. The larger graph from which it was isolated displays temperature trends over more than 140 years, showing a dramatic upward trend. Social media users misrepresented the graph to support the erroneous claim that global temperatures are falling rather than rising, meaning global warming is “a hoax.” The graph being shared online appears to show a slight downward trend, with a note saying the overall temperature decreased 0.11 degrees Celsius during the 2015-2022 period. “The 8-year temperature time series shows the annual global mean surface temperatures for the most recent eight years,” said Jeffrey Hicke, a professor at the University of Idaho’s Department of Earth and Spatial Sciences. “It is accurate as shown, but is misleading.” That’s because while the last eight years trended slightly downward, this small period of time was greatly impacted by natural El Niño and La Niña cycles, experts explained. Zooming in on just this period does not discredit the overall upward trend of global temperatures over the past century. The full NOAA graph, which displays temperature trends from 1880 to 2022, shows a dramatic rise in global average temperatures. Hicke said the graph in its full context is “much more appropriate for assessing the influence of human activities on climate.” NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information said in a statement that although the climate is warming, it is also subject to natural variability as it is impacted by weather events such as El Niños and La Niñas. El Niños bring unusually warm temperatures across the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean, while La Niñas bring unusually cool temperatures. During El Niños, global temperatures tend to be warmer than in years when La Niñas were present. In its statement, NOAA said that 2015-2016 experienced a strong El Niño, which helped boost global temperatures to record highs. But since then, about three La Niñas have helped slightly cool global temperatures. “The selected timeframe from 2016-2022 can create the appearance of a cooling trend,” the agency said, adding, “this is why when computing trends we use timescales of at least 10 years.” John Knox, a professor at the University of Georgia’s Geography Department who studies the dynamics of weather and climate, said the claim in the tweet “is a classic example of cherry-picking the end points of a time series to seemingly prove a false point.” “It’s a very short period of time, which reduces the statistical significance of claims of a trend,” he wrote in an email, adding, “The rising temperature trend over the decades is obvious.”
