rafe peeked over his arms, seeing you were now turned around. he blew out a breath then responded, “that girl over there. you know her? don’t answer, i don’t want you to know her. actually, can you go over there and put in a good word?”

topper blanched, “i am so confused. do you want me to talk to her or not?” rafe shrugged, tilting his side to side, “a little. not too long. crap,” he said suddenly, ducking back down, “i think she looked over again. or am i delusional? i can’t tell anymore. she can’t see me until i’m ready.”

topper frowned, “ready? what are you about to do, you just healed your ankle from jumping two stories, don’t do that again.”

rafe shrugged, “i can and i will. just . . tell her about how much i can press. girls like that right? does she look like she’s into bench pressing? don’t look at her. say something about how i fix cars. and i can fix her car if she has a car. if she doesn’t, tell her i’ll buy her one.”

topper stood, making his way over while walking backwards, “so, that’s all gonna scare her. i got it,” he turned around, making his way towards you.

rafe shifted in his chair, crossing a leg over the over, then putting them back down. he stretched to flex his arms, then quickly put them down too. how the heck do you sit?

while rafe wondered that, topper was doing his best to introduce rafe, “he’s not all quite there . . crazy with a wrench, though.”

rafe looked up after he settled himself when you turned your head to look at him, smiling when you spotted him. that means go, right? rafe sprung up, making his way over, not being able to sit still for another second now that you looked at him. smiled at him.

“sup?” he said once he reached you two, gesturing his head for topper to go away. topper got the hint, returning to his seat. passing rafe, he muttered, “she doesn’t have a car.”

rafe blurted, “i can buy you one,” startling you. he wasn’t able to see topper shaking his head in disappointment as he walked away. your brows scrunched, “sorry?”

rafe smiled nervously, “me too. um, i can buy you a jacket. you look cold,” you realized you were rubbing your arm, “oh, yeah. no, it’s fine. not that bad,” you laughed slightly.

rafe shook his head, anxious you were cold and possibly uncomfortable, “no, if you’re cold, i’ll get you a jacket.”

you tilted your lips, “it’s fine, really. i’m leaving soon, anyway. kind of bored . . was that your friend?” you attempted conversation, but rafe was distracted, staring at you after you mentioned leaving, until he heard the last part of the sentence.

“huh? no, don’t think about him. where are you going?” he didn’t want you to leave yet. did topper talk about his bench press? did you care? did you want to see the callous on his hand from handling tools?

“uh . . just back home. my comfy place,” you muttered shyly. rafe nodded, then frowned. you don’t have a car, are you walking? alone? “i can walk you. i can buy you a jacket on the way. what kind of cars do you like?”

you couldn’t keep up with all that he said at once. you giggled, rafe slightly going weak in the knees at the sound, “sure, you can walk me. i’m still fine about the jacket. mustang’s are pretty cool. what’s your favorite?”

rafe responded distractedly, “the one that drives. you said i can walk you?”

you really have never met a guy like him, “yeah, but i don’t even know your name,” you narrowed your eyes, jokingly suspicious. you didn’t expect rafe’s response, “i’d endure fifteen stab wounds before i hurt you, i’m rafe,” he held his hand out.

your eyes widened, “oh . . don’t do that. nice to meet you,” you shook his hand, responding with your name, then turned to start walking. rafe followed alongside you, thinking about how sweaty his hands just were and how you probably didn’t like that. is he walking alright? are you sure you don’t want a jacket?

“your hand . . ” you suddenly spoke. rafe stilled slightly, scared you noticed the sweatiness. great one, rafe. but then you continued, “it felt rough. what’s on it?” rafe turned to you quickly, excited you brought it up and not the sweat thing. he extended his hand again, “i have a callous, look . . ”

My take is that JJ doesn’t seem to have super high demands or expectations on his friends. I think he’s not bothered by being treated badly after maybe a day or two of stewing. He also seems perfectly happy to flirt with Sarah in S1, so I doubt he knows what went down. I bet he and JB would forgive early and not even need an explanation, although they both still seem a bit touchy about it in early season 1. Some of JJ’s jabs are a bit pointed still. Pope’s character needs to understand and agree more than the two of them do, which makes the Kie and Pope dock conversation make a lot of sense.

Also Kiara and JJ obviously seem to flirt and have a bit of an antagonistic fun mutual attraction thing going on in S1, but they don’t seem as soft or close with each other. Maybe a keeping at arm’s length kind of thing. Kiara needed to see him vulnerable to be softer with him (ie hot tub scene). They start to get softer as the seasons go on, but I didn’t get an impression of super closeness pre-canon.

I definitely see what you mean about JJ taking what he can get kind of thing, which is so 😭 He is hot-headed though and can lash out, but at the end of the day, loyalty is the most important thing to him and the Pogues are the Pogues. He's gonna be there for them.

INTERESTING....I did not see JJ's behavior S1 as flirting with Sarah but almost like snarky and antagonistic. I actually interpreted that as a sort of defense, bc although he might not have known exactly what happened with her and Kie, he knows shit went down and he's taking Kie's side, always. Also, he just despises kooks LMAO

As for jiara seeing each other's softer sides, that's so interesting to think about!!!! I think they're very similar that way, having more difficulty being truly vulnerable. Their tendencies are to lash out more than break down, but JJ just couldn't help it in that moment 😭 You can feel his exhaustion of keeping it all together finally releasing. I don't read this as the very first time jiara has been soft with each other but maybe about this particular situation bc JJ seems to hide a lot from them. Kiara instantly knew how to be there for him whereas it took Pope a minute to catch up. I think this was a particular moment where JJ let Kiara be there for him. I see what you mean though, and in terms of just growing up, stakes being raised, etc., they're learning how to be there for each other even more openly and honestly. And part of that journey is realizing they're each other's person outside of the Pogues.

I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS

First of all, it looks like we were right with the whole Kiara gets kidnapped theory. I was just thinking that because s1 and 2 took place in such a short time, they might use the time that Kiara is taken to elongate the overall time span of the series. She has a few outfit changes while shes with them, so it seems like she's going to be there for a while.

What's that saying? Absence makes the heart grow fonder? I think we can absolutely bet on JJ having many moments where he outwardly shows just how much he cares for her while she is gone. He is going to be one sad little boy and I am HERE FOR IT 😅😭. I think at some point while she is kidnapped they travel elsewhere and if that's the case, I have this theory that JJ gets anxious thinking that he is moving further away from her rather than towards her. Just a thought. He won't be able to hide his distress from the others so well this season. I mean, look what he got up to when he thought John B was dead. He was drinking at school, got fired and then when he found out that he was in jail, he almost when to jail himself! So I think it's safe to say that JJ is not going to take this very well. I think Kiara being kidnapped is the final straw that will make him properly recognise that his feelings for her go beyond friendship. The ANGST potential is *chefs kiss*

Meanwhile with Kie, when she finally gets rescued, JJ will be the one she sees first and runs to. I think it will somehow be made known to her just how much JJ has done up until that point to rescue her. Their reunion hug will be her moment to realise just how much JJ means to her because she will know the lengths that he has gone to to save her. It looks like he is the first one to reach her.

Cos this still looks like they are all running after him to reunite with her. And imagine what they're thinking seeing them embrace like they never want to let each other go 😭 if the others don't cop on to this, I will riot. Imagine their faces when they finally pull apart, they're going to look all soft for each other UGH

And don't even get me started on this whole situation.

Even if they don't kiss and they get interrupted or it turns into a hug, I don't care because LOOK AT THEM!! The more angst the better in my opinion. It's happening!! It's officially canon there is no denying it!!

The only thing I'm worried about now is that they'll leave s3 on a cliffhanger that I will not be able to live with. S2's cliffhanger wasn't so intense for me and kind of wrapped up quite nicely. I mean, I was still going insane but at least everybody was together and they looked happy where they left them so I hope it's not going to be too bad this time around! jj lovess junk food. for breakfast, i think he loves poptarts. he reminds me of drake parker from drake & josh. cheese balls, snack cakes, chips, ice cream, candy, fast food, jj loves it all. he did say something in s1 about craving shrimp & grits so we can assume he loves that too! lives for a bowl of movie theater popcorn every now and then too, as well as nachos with a lottt of cheese.

i don’t see pope as a picky eater. maybe when he was a kid, but he grew out of it. i think pope likes healthier foods because he knows the effects of eating unhealthy. i see pope as a sandwich guy and idk why. sub sandwiches with a pickle spear on the side, even a meatball sub is fine with him. i don’t think he minds a pb&j either. i think pope loves a good hot dog too! probably with all the works; ketchup, mustard, relish, and sauerkraut. i think this stems from going to baseball & other sports games with his dad growing up!

i think kiara loves açaí bowls or bagels in the morning! she likes boba, smoothies, and sometimess sweetened iced tea. she’ll drink some warm tea with lemon when she’s sick too! she likes salads for lunch and will 100% shake her salad vigorously until everything is mixed how she likes it. kie loves pasta too!! i think she likes shrimp fettuccine alfredo. i also think she likes sushi!

lovess french toast for breakfast, preferably with fruit on top! for lunch i think sarah lovess kraft mac & cheese. i think sarah loves chicken, preferably grilled, and will eat it with almost anything. lives for a grilled chicken caesar salad! i also think she likes grilled cheese sandwiches a lot (or just sandwiches period), maybe with some tomato soup on the side. i could totally see her getting super excited if someone bought her a panini press lol

When Jiara are on the bus in South America and JJ is comforting Kiara telling her they’ll find the other pogues and not to worry, I swear he was about to wrap his arm around her or at the very least put his hand on her shoulder because you can see him turn his body towards her and his hand start to move up before there’s this very abrupt cut to where conveniently we can only see JJ’s face and nothing else.

UGH. Sometimes the editing on this show is so frustrating for them. The cropped, out of focus 2x01 hug. The 3x01 poguelandia hug that was clearly edited out after JJ jumps off the cliff. The 3x04 bracelet touch that was never meant to be. Not being able to see them holding hands as they’re running out of Kitty Hawk. And I’m sure there’s even more but these are just a few examples.

Obx editing/filming can be a little iffy in general, but obviously I’m a bit bias when it comes to my favourite ship lol. They better show us everything next season or I’m throwing hands!

Yeahhh...some of the editing is really frustrating, BUT-

I think the editors also contributed to creating jiara, SO. I can't be too mad at them. The editing they did of JJ's facial expressions and the cuts they chose for his reactions in S1 🤌

I actually did like the hug in 2x1 (that took me a sec, I thought you were talking about the infamous dock long shot in 2x8 where we missed either a hug or Kie pulling JJ in at least). Even though the 2x1 hug could've been framed a bit better, I really loved the close-up of JJ's emotional expression and him nuzzled into Kiara's shoulder/neck.

I also thought for sure JJ was gonna put his arm around Kiara on the bus in South America 😭 That would've been such a nice, subtle little addition for their newly formed union. But alas...3x10 was a bit of a drought 😭 It's almost as if they decided to do the 18 month jump and were like OH WAIT let's make jiara vague, then went overboard and deleted anything relationshippy.

Let's not even get me started on bracelet touch 😃 They released a still and didn't show it. I...yeah. The only thing I can think of is maybe that was used when there was going to be a potential kiss and they didn't think it matched the vibe anymore. But YOU AND I KNOW THAT IT BELONGED THERE NO MATTER WHAT! There are some things I'll never understand and that's fine!!!!

We are gonna send ALL the positive vibes to the universe for S4!!!!
