im imaging reader meeting him when he was a child

a little after Falin was born and after he was given the dungeon gourmet guide

A ctivities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?

Honestly anything. I feel like if it was something you enjoyed, Gwayne would find himself enjoying it too, just because you were happy. But I think like he would really like going on leisurely walks or horse rides together. It’s an activity that allows you to talk and get to know one another, but where you can also explore the beauty of a garden or forest together. I could totally see him bringing a book along and reading it aloud to you under a tree.

B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?

Everything lmao. But your eyes stand out to him, especially when he can read all the things you don’t say out loud in them. I feel like he would also appreciate intellect, common sense, and wit. He is clearly sooooo done with Criston’s weird dumb bullshit, and I think someone who was rational and level-headed but not afraid to crack a joke or two (especially at Criston’s expense lmaooooo) would be really appealing to him.

C omfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

My mans would not be much help at first because he’s freaking out too. He wouldn’t want to see you in any kind of distress, especially if he’s not sure where it came from or what’s causing it. I think if it happened more than once and you talked about it and expressed what you needed, he would be more than willing to do whatever you needed from him. My sense is that his first reaction (after the initial freak out) would just be to hold you really tightly and whisper reassurances to you until you were feeling better.

D reams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?

Given the society that Gwayne lives in, his expectations have kind of been set for him in the sense that his future is pretty much expected to involve marriage and children. And honestly, I get the sense that this isn’t something he’s necessarily opposed to. Especially since he found you and realizes he gets to marry someone he actually loves, he’d be pretty thrilled about the whole prospect. It just doesn’t seem like life on miliary campaign is something he’s super jazzed about, so his ideal future would likely be just settling down with you in Oldtown. 

E qual - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?

I think it’s pretty mixed, especially depending on the context. Again, given the societal expectations placed on him, I do think he might tend to be a little more dominant (especially if he thinks/knows that he’s right about something) but I also don’t think he would ever force you to do something you didn’t want to. He’d also back off on just about any subject if he noticed you were getting upset about it. I also think it really depends on your temperament, since I think he could really go either way depending on what energy you brought to the relationship.

F ight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?

It would be really hard for him to stay mad at you (and vice versa). Unless it was something truly awful, I just don’t think he could stay upset with you for very long. As we’ve already established, he’s a pretty rational person who seems to value clear communication, so I think “fights” with him would be more like difficult discussions about hard issues rather than an actual fight. This is really nice because then you both get to speak your mind and actually come out with a better understanding of the other person and a stronger relationship because of it.

G ratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

I do tend to think that he’s a pretty grateful person, but I think he’s better at showing it than saying it sometimes. Not that he can’t verbalize his gratitude – he totally can – I just think that gestures come more naturally to him (like winning a tourney in your honor, buying you something extravagant, taking you on a nice trip, etc.)

H onesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?

Yes and no. If there was something he knew that would put you in danger if you knew it, he would not tell you. He would never forgive himself if something happened as a result. Pretty much anything else though, he’ll tell you. He won’t always offer everything, but I think he would have a hard time lying to you or keeping things from you if you asked about them. Depending on what it was, he might tell you a sanitized version of the story because he doesn’t want you to worry, but he’d be as honest as he felt he could be in the moment.

I nspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helping them overcome personal problems?

I think in any good relationship (romantic, platonic, or otherwise) people change each other for the better. Gwayne is no exception to this, and I think it’s likely that he picks up habits from you (just as you do from him). I can definitely see that if he had you as a confidante to rant about Criston or just to express his worries and doubts about politics, his family, etc. that he might be a little less overtly antagonistic and instead might just smile and nod a little more but internally be like “wait til my s/o hears about this fucking bullshit.” He’d definitely still give Critston attitude tho

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

Yes and no. Gwayne is a fairly confident person, and I think he feels pretty comfortable with himself and with his relationship with you for the most part. However, I don’t think he’s immune to jealously, especially if it were to seem like another person was paying you a bit too much attention. In that scenario, I’m sure he’d have some quip at that person’s expense and whisk you away or be very obvious about using your title as his spouse. The one thing that might make him feel truly insecure is if it seemed like you were becoming interested in someone else. But let’s be real, if you get to marry Ser Gwayne Hightower, that’s not fucking happening 

K iss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

Oh, he’s definitely a good kisser. I don’t think he was one to have a lot of trysts prior to meeting you (despite his bravado, I think he really values an emotional or intellectual connection to the person he’s with, meaning I don’t think many of the flings he might have had made it all the way to the hook-up stage). But he’s a handsome man who likely had a lot of admirers, and I do think he got a bit of practice with kissing in his youth. He’s absolutely very attentive to what you like, so I think he’s only gotten to be an even better kisser over the course of your relationship. In terms of your first kiss with him, these lyrics from “All My Love” by Noah Kahan are very applicable here: “I leaned in for a kiss thirty feet from where your parents slept / and I looked so confident, babe / I swear, I was scared to death.” Especially early on, I think he really wanted to project this confident and suave vibe that he totally knew what he was doing, but as soon as he realized he was in love with you, he was actually a nervous wreck and desperately did not want to mess it up. 

L ove Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?

re: Gwayne’s penchant for gestures, I have a feeling he had a whole well-written speech planned out (he based it on the dramatic love confessions he read in old ballads). However, despite all his preparation, I think the confession actually ended up just slipping out one time when you were together and he couldn’t keep it in any longer. He probably stumbled over his words and was very embarrassed about it and his face turned bright pink, but it was so adorable and endearing that you actually preferred it to whatever speech he might have had planned.

M arriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the wedding be like?

As I mentioned above, I think that marriage is pretty much a given for Gwayne considering the realities of the culture in which he lives. He also probably didn’t propose in the traditional sense, since the marriage was likely arranged, but I can absolutely envision him proposing to you privately after the betrothal has been officially announced and after he’s spent enough time with you to realize that he is genuinely in love with you. It would be sort of a love confession/proposal where he basically says “I know you were chosen by others to be my spouse, but I also personally choose you because I love you.” The wedding would be fairly large and befitting of his rank and station, and it’s likely that neither of you would have much choice in how it was conducted. Gwayne definitely likes the idea of a large and fairly public wedding because it’s a way for him to show his pride for both his house and his betrothed.

N icknames - What do they call their s/o?

Very sweet things! Mostly “my dear,” “my love,” and “dearheart,” with a sprinkle of “my darling” mixed in on occasion.

O n Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious to others? How do they express their feelings?

He gets very love-struck, especially when he’s with you. Spending time with you is like spending time in another world for him, and I do think he becomes a little more uninhibited when he’s around you. If people watch the two of you together, his lovesickness is pretty obvious to anyone who knows him. Even if they speak to just him, they might notice slight changes, like the fact that he talks about you a lot and always finds a way to bring you into the conversation. He’s careful though, and would never reveal the depths of his affection for you to someone who might you it against him or hurt you to get back at him. In terms of expressing feelings, as I mentioned above, I get the sense that he’s one for gestures that demonstrate his feelings. He gets nervous and stumbles over his words more than usual when he tries to verbalize things to you, and that’s an unusual and uncomfortable experience for him at first. The longer you’re together though, the better he gets at it.

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag about their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

Because your betrothal and marriage are pretty much public knowledge, Gwayne definitely feels comfortable being upfront about the relationship. And oh he totally brags. He’s very proud to call you his spouse and is not afraid to make sure everyone knows about it. Based on societal and cultural expectations, I don’t think there would be a lot of open PDA (like hugs, kisses on the lips, etc.). But hand kisses?????????? All the fucking time babeyyyyyyy!!!!!!!! So many kisses on the knuckles wherever and whenever – it’s his favorite little gesture of affection

Q uirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.

Mans is a killer shit talker. We know this. He can and will throw shade with the best of them. He wants to know all the drama in your friend circle and will happily judge everyone with you for hours. That one “friend” of yours who turned out to be wildly toxic and conniving? Well he never liked them anyway and he’s got a bulletpointed list of reasons why. You start a conversation with “can I be mean for a moment?” or “you know I love this person, but…” and he is SAT. He’s always on your side and ready to talk absolute shit about anyone who caused you even a minor inconvenience. 

R omance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

At the end of the day, he’s something of a hopeless romantic and would do whatever he could to make you happy. There are a lot of times when the cultural and societal realities of the world he lives in prevent him from doing everything he might want, but if it came down to it, he would do almost anything for you. A lot of his romantic gestures are a little cliché, but in the best, most endearing way possible. As he gets to know you though, and as your relationship matures, he’ll probably get a little more creative and do things that are more specific to the two of you.

S upport - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?

Believes in you and supports you 100000% no question. Again though, I think this impulse can be a bit hampered by the social structures in which he lives. He’ll do whatever he can to help you achieve your goals, but there are limits based on birth, status, etc. that you are both cognizant of and which might influence what those goals look like and how far either of you would go to achieve them.

T hrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice up your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

We’re talking about Ser “I’d rather stay at a comfy inn than camp out” Gwayne Hightower here – I think he appreciates a level of routine and comfort. There’s so much in his world that is chaotic and out of his control that I think he would really relish having that consistency and stability in his relationship. Not that he would never try anything new – especially if you asked him to – I just think his natural inclination would be to have a comforting routine that works for both of you.

U nderstanding - How well do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

Considering he picked up on Alicent and Criston’s weird vibes in like 5 seconds, I’d say he’s pretty good at reading people. He definitely makes an effort to get to know you, and can confidently say that he knows you very well at this point. Especially since you’re someone he cares about and spends a lot of time with, he’s quite good at reading your moods and guessing how you’re feeling.

V alue - How important is the relationship to them? What is its worth in comparison to other things in their life?

Very important. Again though, there are cultural expectations placed on both of you that may necessitate you and Gwayne placing your relationship further down your list of priorities than you normally would choose to. If it were completely up to him though, his relationship with you would be right up there at the top with his loyalty to his house and his family.

W ild Card - A random fluff headcanon

I talked about this much more extensively in this fic, but the necklace you gave him? He. Does. Not. Take. It. Off. EVER. It’s his little piece of you that he gets to carry everywhere, and he could never ever bear to part with it.

X OXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?

In private, abso-fucking-lutely! As I mentioned in the PDA section, he’s more retrained in public, but still likes to demonstrate his affection for you via hand kisses. In private though, he loves to cuddle. And honestly, he doesn’t really care where or in what position – curled up in bed, sprawled on a couch, his head in your lap, you tucked against his chest – he just likes to be touching you and knowing that you’re right there next to him, that you’re safe, and that you love him.

Y earning - How do they cope when they’re missing their partner?

It’s a reality he has to face more than he would like, given the exterior expectations placed on him. If he had his way, he would live quietly with you at his family’s property near Oldtown forever. When he has to leave though, he always asks for your favor to take with him, regardless of how long you’ve been together or how many times you’ve bestowed it. As mentioned above, he also always wears the necklace you gave him. Definitely a top tier professional yearner though – he misses you and thinks of you the whole time he’s gone.

Z eal - Are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

This answer will be pretty similar to the answer for “V” – yes he is, but he also has to be cognizant of outside pressures that might cause him to act in ways that don’t always align with his personal inclinations. He would both die and kill for you though, not that you’re asking him to do either. In fact, you’re usually telling him not to do either of those things.

you were Chads friend in high school, he was on the football team and you were a cheerleader so it was easy to be mixed in with the same people. he was nice in your opinion, you found it funny that his name was literally Chad but he was always nice. thus started the friendship between you two and you slowly became part of their friend circle, you were a year older than them but even after you graduated you stuck around. you wanted to take a gap year between high school and college to figure out what you wanted to do for the rest of your life.

Mindy had said she’d be willing to move in with you during her sophomore year and you figured a couple more months of an uncomfortable couch couldn’t hurt. besides, sometimes Tara would offer her room as well.

loud music blasted around the house as young adults were talking to one another in small groups. you were talking to a girl who was getting a little too flirty in your opinion. you didn’t want to be there, you wanted to be with Sam out on a dinner date or at the movies - really anything as long as it was with her and you were out of her small room. but she had therapy so when Tara invited you to go out you didn’t have any excuse to say no.

you were dressed in one of your old cheer uniforms. it was basic but you didn’t care much for the party and you weren’t going to go out to buy a costume.

you cleared your throat now noticing Mindy and Anika looking at you in slight confusion. you just hadn’t realized Sam was watching the whole interaction as well. “im sorry,” you said with an apologetic smile, “if i gave you the wrong signals but im not looking for anything right now”

the brunette didn’t seem offended or she didn’t show it and simply smiled before taking her leave. you felt a sense of relief wash over you, you weren’t sure what you would’ve done if she didn’t take your rejection so lightly.

your thoughts were cut off by a voice, “holy shit. it’s that psycho girl” a random guy said making you glance at Sam, there were people with their phones out recording everything causing the girl to shake her head and walk away. you, Mindy and Anika immediately followed.

you weren’t sure if Sam saw someone ask for your number so you made yourself invisible throughout the whole walk to the apartment. you didn’t say anything when Tara blew up on her and you tried to hold yourself back when some bitch threw their drink on Sam.

Sam doesn’t respond making you frown, you knew this was all extremely upsetting. you couldn’t imagine being in her position, already having to suffer something so traumatic and then having to hear people say that it was all her fault and she was the real murderer. instead of saying anything else you sit on the bed beside your girlfriend and wrap your arms around her. she stiffens at first but slowly relaxes into your touch, her own arms wrapping around your waist.

You’re sitting on the edge of your bed, nervously twisting a ring around your finger. Tom’s laughter echoes from downstairs, probably watching one of those comedy specials he loves. You glance at the time on your phone and feel your heart race. It’s now or never, you think to yourself.

You stand up and smooth out the creases in your shirt.

"Alright, here goes nothing,” you mutter, taking a deep breath. You walk out of your room and head downstairs, each step feeling heavier than the last.

Tom is sprawled out on the couch, his head thrown back in laughter. The sight makes you smile; your brother’s laughter is infectious, and for a moment, your nerves ease up. But then you remember why you’re here, and your stomach knots up again.

“Hey, Tom,” you call out, trying to sound casual.

He turns his head, still chuckling. “Hey, kiddo! What’s up?” His smile is warm and inviting, and you almost forget why you were nervous in the first place.

“Can we talk? It’s kind of important,” you say, shifting your weight from one foot to the other.

Tom sits up, his expression turning serious. “Yeah, of course. What’s going on?” He pats the space next to him on the couch.

You sit down and take another deep breath. “Okay, so… I have something to tell you. And I really hope you won’t freak out.”

Tom raises an eyebrow, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. “Alright, you’re scaring me a bit. What’s the big news?”

You bite your lip and then blurt it out. “I’m dating someone. And it’s… it’s Chris.”

Tom’s eyes widen, and for a moment, he just stares at you. You watch as a range of emotions flickers across his face: surprise, confusion, and something else you can’t quite place.

“Chris? As in your best friend Chris?” His voice is a little louder, a little sharper than usual.

“Yeah,” you nod, trying to keep your voice steady. “We’ve been best friends forever, and things just… kind of happened.”

Tom’s expression hardens, and he stands up, running a hand through his hair. “And you’re just telling me this now? How long has this been going on?”

“A few months,” you admit, your heart sinking. This isn’t going how you hoped it would.

“A few months?” Tom echoes, his voice rising. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier? You’re my sister! I should’ve known!”

“I’m sorry, Tom,” you say, standing up as well. “I just… I wanted to make sure it was something real before telling anyone. And I was scared of how you’d react.”

Tom’s face is a mix of frustration and hurt. “Of course, you should’ve been scared! Chris is my friend too, and now everything’s going to be weird. Why couldn’t you just stay friends?”

“It’s not that simple,” you argue, feeling your own frustration building. “I can’t control who I have feelings for! And Chris makes me happy, Tom. Isn’t that what matters?”

Tom shakes his head, his jaw clenched. “I just… I never thought I’d have to deal with this. It’s like I’m losing you or something.”

“Losing me?” you repeat, taken aback. “Tom, you’re not losing me. I’m still your sister, and I always will be. I just… I have someone else in my life now who’s important to me too.”

Tom looks away, his shoulders slumping. “I get that, but it’s just… a lot to take in. You’ve always been my little sister, and now you’re growing up and… I don’t know, it feels weird.”

You step closer to him, your anger fading. “Tom, I get it. I really do. But I need you to trust me on this. Chris really is a good guy, and he cares about me. And I care about him.”

Tom sighs, rubbing his face with his hands. “I know that he's a good guy. I just… I worry about you. I always have.”

“I know you do,” you say softly, reaching out to touch his arm. “But I’m not a kid anymore. I need to make my own choices and my own mistakes.”

Tom looks at you, his eyes softening. “Yeah, I guess you’re right. I just don’t want you to get hurt.”

“I know, and I appreciate that,” you say with a small smile. “But I’m happy, Tom. Really happy. And I want you to be happy for me too.”

Tom lets out a long breath and then pulls you into a hug. “I’m sorry for freaking out. I just… I need some time to get used to this.”

You hug him back, feeling a weight lift off your shoulders. “Take all the time you need. Just don’t hate me or Sam, okay?”

Tom chuckles, ruffling your hair. “I could never hate you, kiddo. And I’ll try to be cool with Chris. For you.”

You smile, feeling a surge of relief and gratitude. “Thanks, Tom. That means a lot to me.”

He pulls back and gives you a serious look. “But if he hurts you, I’m coming for him. Just so you know.”

You laugh, rolling your eyes. “Noted. But I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that.”

Tom grins, and for the first time since you started this conversation, you feel like everything is going to be okay. You’re still a little nervous about what the future holds, but with Tom by your side, you know you can handle anything.

“Tom,” you say quietly, breaking the comfortable silence.

“Yeah?” He turns to look at you, his expression open and relaxed.

“I just wanted to say thank you. For being so understanding. I know it wasn’t easy for you.”

Tom shrugs, a small smile on his lips. “It’s not that big a deal. I just needed a little time to get my head around it.”

You nod, feeling a wave of gratitude wash over you. “Still, it means a lot to me. I know this isn’t what you expected.”

Tom chuckles, shaking his head. “No, definitely not. But I guess that’s part of growing up, right? Learning to deal with the unexpected.”

“Yeah, I guess so,” you say, smiling. “It’s just… I want you to know that you’re always going to be my big brother. No matter what.”

Tom’s smile fades slightly, replaced by a more serious expression. “I know, and I appreciate that. I just… I don’t want to feel like I’m losing you.”

“You’re not,” you assure him, reaching out to take his hand. “You’re never going to lose me. I promise.”

Tom squeezes your hand, his eyes shining with emotion. “Thanks, sis. That means a lot.”

You sit in comfortable silence for a while, just enjoying each other’s company. It’s moments like these that remind you how lucky you are to have Tom in your life. He may be overprotective and a little overbearing at times, but he’s also your biggest supporter and your best friend.

“Hey, how about we make a deal?” Tom says suddenly, breaking the silence.

“A deal?” you ask, curious.

“Yeah. How about we promise to always be honest with each other? No matter how tough it is or how much it might hurt.”

him and jean met in high school. sweet babies.

then they *had* a baby a lot sooner than they were really expecting. both of em out of high school, but barley.

they love each other and do everything right but shit is hard and the military preys on people trying to make ends meet

so, well- 1+1=s 2 off to basic he goes.

ends up in afghanistan around the same time bucky and gale and all the other guys start rolling in there.

also ends up there with his bff from basic training, tech school and everything else. bubbles <3

the two of them end up bunking with demarco and douglas which is quite the right brain/left brain dynamic lol.

croz and bubbles' side of the room is snowglobes and kid pictures and demarco and douglas' side is women from magazines taped on the wall god love em.

gets along decently well with everyone but.

then bubbles dies and that's when everything really starts to go to shit.

i wrote a little about his initial fight with bucky about the IED that killed bubbles here.

they don't really make up from that.

for a long while.

croz is in a spiral about losing his best friend, bucky is starting to not do so well with the preindictment they're all in himself and they just. really set each other off.

kinda freaks everyone out bc they remember sweet baby face croz who puked a lot but now he's just different. damn war.

it gets to a point where him and bucky can't be in the same room without popping off at each other. and everyone else is having to micromanage them on top of having to do their actual jobs in war zone. (70% of the time its brady having to keep bucky away if not gale. croz's "insurance" buddies are rosie and douglas)

does end up getting involved with a girl in another unit

douglas and demarco clock it before anyone else bc he starts coming to bed at weird hours and they see him around this girl and just knowww.

pisses demarco off esp bc he had a whole Thing with finding out his girl back home cheated on him.

one night demarco decides to wait up for him to get back from wherever the fuck it is he goes with her at night and just about fucking jumps him and douglas has to pull him off (after he gets a good whack in)

it was a *loud* commotion of a fight lmfao bucky could hear it from their room and wanted to go see what was going on but gale was like noooppeee. no y' don't.

croz ends up telling jean everything. she forgives him. ("women! eliza could leave alex now for cheating on her. or not. as she wished." - vanessa nadal on eliza hamilton)

him and bucky make up during the pull out from afghanistan bc bucky just about saves his life in the chaos.

poor croz just breaks down crying/panicking about how he wants to go home. and bucky doesn't see that little shit that he's grown resentful towards, he sees that nervous pukey kid from when they first met

buttt...post war things get a little dicey again.

bc he stays in.

bagram sucked the war sucked but. he still has a family to provide for, he's not totally on the outs with the forces so he ultimately decides leaving would be more work than it's worth.

gets deployed to raf mildenhall base in england and gets to move with his wife and kiddos to england so. not a bad deal.

but there are. feelings. amongst the others about him staying in.

especially curt- who is the most "fuck all of that and the government too". getting his leg blown off fucked him up 7 ways to sunday and just completely shaped his view on it all.

the two of them get reallllly into it once when all the guys are together and it gets. ugly.

curt says a whole lot of shit about how he doesn't know how he can look at his kids knowing what they saw happen to kids overseas, what /they/ endorsed by being there. croz says its none of his business- he had his reasons for staying in, curt says name one that isn't selfish and it just. escalates. till they're both yelling and mean. croz eventually says something dumb on impulse about how he won't apologize for not letting the war radicalize him against his country and curt has to be yanked back from decking him lmfao. just another night!

if the others weren't all friends with both of em him and curt would not fuck with each other at allllll but. they love their friends more than they dislike each other so they smile and grind their teeth and *try*.

the whole thing with bucky's drinking issues brings them together because they're on the same page about that at least.

have a longgg talk when all that is going on. and it makes curt's chest hurt bc man he really has his issues with this kid but. he knows he's doing what he genuinely believes he has to, knows he only enlisted to begin with bc he felt like it was the only way he could provide for his family.

knows that all the issues he has with the guy the fuckin military is to blame for just as much if not more than croz is himself.

a more lighthearted side bar: bucky ribs him about staying in a little too- is just more lighthearted on it bc they have become more friendly since they left bagram (and get to being even better friends once they bucks have josie).

one night they're talkin when croz complains he can't do what he wants with his facial hair because of regs and bucky is like wellllll if you gotta the fuck outta there you could grow a handlebar mustache. don't let your dreams be dreams kid!

I have so many thoughts about creep! bf gojo. Mainly bc he probably didn't get a lot of normal interactions as a kid, either he was being praised for being 'the chosen one' or left completely to his own devices. and so his sense of decency and normalcy are skewed so far off. oh god….you really know your way to get to me, don’t you………..bc yes. yes, you are so correct . oh my god. i’ve talked about this before here and there but yes. i think satoru was very neglected growing up despite being born as a boy with a spark incomparable to any other, a special boy. the first descendant in the gojo clan in 400 years to inherit both limitless & six eyes.

and i think, even when he was little, a lot of people feared him bc of that. and naturally, the care and affection people usually show to a child provoked by the internal need to protect such a small being, that very sense to love and shield what needs to be loved and shielded, dulled before the eyes of fear. this, and the envy of prying eyes and all who wanted him gone before he fully blossomed into something bigger, sow the seeds of loneliness in him. he was an outcast, and not because he was looked down on but because he was looked up on, too much at that.

i don’t think he was ever truly loved, even by his parents actually. maybe they loved him to some extent. but not because he was their blood and a beloved symbol of their love. what made their chest swell was rather pride than love. and they were not proud of him, they were proud of themselves for bringing such a special boy to existence.

i remember reading a post connecting the lack of presence in the sense of support and source of inspiration in satoru’s life to how it affected the way he carries himself later in life in the sense of, let’s say, fashion. i don’t remember the url of the op i am so sorry but god damn, they were so right. bc if you look closely you will notice that most characters in jjk have their own style, a specific physical trait unique only to them, whether a hairstyle or a fashion sense or whatever. but saotur? except for the blindfold, he’s got nothing. right? and the blindfold he wears is not for the sake of being eccentric or unique, it’s not for the sake of creating a trademark on his end. it once again comes down to his technique. 

so yea for someone like satoru, who’s never had a normal human connection in his life before, love is very likely to border with obsession. and like, i don’t think he is completely unaware of the feeling “love” but it’s one thing to know of it through books, movies or whatsoever and another to live and actually experience it firsthand. so when he loves, it’s raw, it’s inexperienced, it’s limitless (hehe see what i did there). there is no moral compass, there is no stop sign for him—he’s going to be weird. he’s going to cross certain boundaries. he’s going to disregard your personal space. but it’s not because he’s an actual sick freak just for the sake of it, it’s because he loves you with all the pent up loneliness in him and now that he’s tasted love and knows how good it feels, he doesn’t want to lose it.

I have mixed feelings on the amelia arc leaning more positive than negative bc I’m a contrarian and I thought the fandom disliked that arc for the wrong reasons lmao - as usual dean’s inescapable perspective aggressively dampened ppl’s ability to empathize w/ sam. also as usual this fandom hates women as much as the show does.

anyway bird’s eye view: sam’s “break” with amelia pre-s8 followed the extremely traumatic events (for sam more than anyone) of s4-s7. he spends literal years dealing w/ one catastrophe after another, his and dean’s relationship suffers its first major breakdown in s4 that imo they never truly recover from, he sacrifices himself to save the world bc it was “his fault” it nearly ended, he suffers an eternity of torture in the cage and loses those memories then regains them then loses them again, nothing feels solid to him least of all his own body and mind. and then dean dies in the s7 finale! or at least, sam thinks he does - he has no reason to believe otherwise. and sam looks for dean, we see that he does, we see him spinning out and suicidal again, but then he stops. bc he hits a dog! and he meets A Girl. and this girl, like him, is drifting and grieving and desperate for something solid to hold onto for just a while. and she’s prickly and unapproachable at first and sam finds that comforting.

my overall point is that sam’s headspace going into stanford era and sam’s headspace pre samndean reunion in s8 are like…. impossibly different. he goes through shit his teen self wouldn’t even have the words to describe. he and dean hit lows that he would’ve never thought possible when they only had each other for comfort under john’s roof.

stanford era sam was blessed with ignorance; he was trying to be Normal, he left his stifling family unit behind and started planning a stable future without them, he was doing everything you’re Supposed to do to be a happy successful person per american individualism - and at the time, it WAS making him happy, bc everyone had kept him in the dark abt the nefarious plot he was smack-dab in the middle of; he didn’t know his freedom was an illusion and that he’d never stopped being watched.

pre-s8 sam on the other hand has long since given up on normalcy. he views himself as a freak who will “never be okay” and hunting as a burden that he deserves to bear. it takes dean being gone for the veil to lift a little and remind him that A) it’s maybe okay that he’s a freak lmao bc amelia’s kind of a freak as well and they can help each other specifically because they’re broken in similar ways, and B) he CAN feel okay when he’s not hunting.

like we know sam’s always hated hunting lol his introduction as a character is centered on this inner conflict. however sam “running away” from “the life” before he knows abt what azazel did to him and before he’s made to shoulder the burden of the apocalypse in s5, among countless other burdens, and sam making an Informed Decision to step back from hunting are 2 entirely different things. to me.

also btw sam turning away from hunting is inextricable from sam turning away from dean, and punished accordingly. bc sam’s Place is at dean’s side whether he likes it or not. he is reminded of this the very instant dean gets back from purgatory and bombarded with guilt abt it for the rest of the season until he cracks.

I think Miguel would try to hide it at first and he does a good job at it. Even though there’s always this tug in his stomach when he sees an anomaly all wrapped up in his webs, he’s got the self control to ignore it. no matter how much his instincts insist for him to scoop up the prey he caught and gulp them down, he most likely won’t do much other than linger on the thought for a bit. Of course, this doesn’t make his instincts happy in the slightest. After all, he caught that prey, it was his catch >:( so why can’t the spider eat its well deserved meal?? I feel like they’re even more intense if the anomaly is paralyzed via his fangs too.

If he neglects his instincts for too long they simply grow louder and louder until he can barely take it anymore and has to do something to soothe them or release pent up energy. He’s had a few instances where he’s started drooling slightly seeing a webbed up anomaly without him noticing. It’s always awkward for a spider person to have to point it out to him so he tries to stay mindful of it. Sometimes his fangs leak venom when he’s seriously neglected his instincts, ie not letting himself build a web-cocoon near the suspended part of his office, acting more spidery per se etc. it gets even worse when he’s exhausted because then he doesn’t have the energy to really suppress them either.

In terms of reactions I think Hobie would be quietly surprised. And there’s not a lot that can seriously get this dude to genuinely be shocked. Unless he’s seen Miguel do it before I think he’d be overall a little freaked out and concerned. Even though he’s usually calm and collected (but he’s not afraid to show his emotions) he’d be at least a little stunned seeing Miguel swallow an anomaly like a snack. Probably has a lot of questions but mainly just wants to know how Miguel even does that. Just another thing to add to his list of ‘my not-boss’s weird quirks’.

I think Gwen would be worried bc ‘is the anomaly…still alive?? How does that even work wtf’ and also a little creeped out at first since I don’t think she’d have those sort of instincts. I’m sure she’ll kinda just accept it after a while although she can’t really stop herself from getting the heebie jeebies from watching miguel indulge in his spider Side more. I feel like she’d say something like “ oh — OH, um. That’s — okay, yeah I guess you’re doing that I — wow. Okay,” when she first sees him nom someone. God forbid she herself has to get nommed, she’d be both horrified and morbidly fascinated.

I think Peter b and Jess would’ve known beforehand considering how they’re considered to be the two people he can rely on the most/ his right hand spider people. Peter might have the instincts too so he’d probably understand but Jess?? I feel like she’d stare at Miguel for a full ten seconds and just walk out of the room to process. But since Miguel feels the most comfortable around them in the beginning, it’ll probably become something kinda a little bit common?? Like he definitely won’t nom an anomaly every single time he’s got a mission with them but he’ll do it more often since he knows they understand.

I think Pavitr would also scream, and like stare blankly at Miguel or just full on gape openly. Finding out that your spider-boss-mentor eats people alive then spits them out later because of spidery instincts is a bit of a jarring discovery for sure. He’d definitely have tons of questions tho once he gets over his shell shocked state. He’s pretty young and has only gotten his watch pretty recently so I think that he wouldn’t really be too exposed to all the different dimensions of spider people and all of their odd little quirks so he’s def gonna be curious. Or like when Gwen manages to web up an anomaly by herself, she turns away for half a second to check if hobie’s chucks are still laced up tightly, before turning around and — oh look. The anomaly has disappeared. Wow, where’d they go. And then Miguel is just standing off to the side, face completely impassive as if he did not just nom someone at the speed of light. or during training Miguel is trying to teach some of the spider kids a few new tricks/moves, one of them ends up getting tangled up in his webs/ wrapped up and he noms them. And then that turns into some sort of tag game except Miguel is it and if you get eaten ur out. Sort of like a training exercise.

It gets really awkward for both of them when only a few months later, Gilderoy starts his new job at hogwarts... but Snape is too embarrassed to admit that he cheated on Dumbledore with Gilderoy so he can't tell him what he knows about Lockhardt...

And Quirrell/Moody... listen, they're both freaks in different ways and I think it was just a matter of time until they found a way into each other's arms/pants. Quirrell is the unhinged twink Moody needed to feel alive again, their sex is freaky and weird in the best kind of way. Idk how their ages are in canon but I'm just gonna say they probably knew each other as teenagers and then randomly met in some remote place, both not telling the other exactly what they were doing there but going for a pint anyways for old times sake, and one thing leads to another... 1. Why did we get only 10 minutes with them on the island?? I think after s2 finale all I could think about was what they were doing on the island and I just wanted to see a bit more of that

2. I liked that Kiara acknowledged that screaming murderer at Ward was the DUMBEST fucking think to do

3. Rafe and Kiara working together was fun. Kiara pushing Rafe and stealing his boat to save everyone was everything I wanted and more! Also people ship them now???

4. The group dynamics was off the minute they got back to the obx. I miss their little conversations in between reminding us they are still awkward teenagers

5. This might be controversial but I liked jiara. I think being stranded on the island changed things for all of the Pogues but especially them. jj was happy and not in his usual fight or flight mode he had to be in to survive in Kildare. Yeah living on a deserted island is hard but at least no one is beating you and making you feel worthless. And I think that for Kiara saving jj and almost losing him gave her a opportunity to explore her feelings after the whole Pope fiasco.

6. Pope and Cleo were the cutest freaking thing! I just wish they weren't so separated from the group all the time.

7. I don't like John b's father, I think him and Ward are not that different.

8. Also big John isolating John b from his friends and making him lie to them "for their safty" was a very shitty thing to do.

9. I liked the little detail of big John getting shot in the same place Sarah was shot.

10. Wards little Christian awakening was a bit weird but I think it's more of a me thing than a show thing
