Oh...oh I have so many feelings.
So, I just finished binging the One Piece Live Action. And as someone who has never seen a single episode of the One Piece anime nor has read a single page of the One Piece manga...I really really really loved this live action.
First of all, I love the story. I think it’s really well done and the plotting works for the adaptation. Second of all, I love the characters (and I will do a whole section on them in a minute) and I love the cast. My god the cast. They each played their roles so fucking well and I’m glad they chose who they did because I really can’t see anyone else playing these characters. Also, the backstories man. Look, I am a sucker for backstories and they delivered on them. And also, also, the fucking flag at the end?! The icon flag with the skull with straw hat on it? Bitch, I am emotions
ANNND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE RELATIONSHIPS THROUGHOUT THIS SHOW…the relationships make me emotional
Now, for the characters (at least the mains and maybe like the villains):
Mains:
Luffy: I love how he was portrayed in this. I’ve seen gifsets of this guy and he is both so loveable but also a gremlin and a little shit and Iñaki played him so well. I couldn’t stop cooing over how fucking cute he was. My god. I think the CGI for his rubber was actually quite cool/good. Really unnatural looking but hello...the dude’s skin is fucking rubber, it’s gonna be unnatural. And it worked
Zoro: He was badass and a cunt and a bitch and I love him. The middle finger in the first episode? A man after my own fucking heart. I also really liked Mackenyu in the Fullmetal Alchemist series as Scar, I thought he played him really well. I think he did a really good job (and I’m excited to see him in Knights of the Zodiac whenever that comes out)
Nami: Her actress reminded me a lot of like a younger Jennifer Chastain (it might be the orange hair) but I really liked her character. A badass but with a good heart and also a little bit of a bitch. (If a character is a little bit of a bitch, I’m going to like them, that’s just how it is).
Sanji: I loved his actor. And I know him and Zoro a little bit better than the other characters and I know that in the anime he’s quite a ladies man. Like a lot of a ladies man but I like that they kind of toned that down here. He’s also another bitch and I love him. I’m also very glad they kept his eyebrows normal and didn’t do the spiral because I don’t think that would have translated well
Usopp: He has a lot of heart. I really liked how he cared for Kaya and how he cared for his friends and yeah he was a bit of an exaggerated, he’s really just trying to make people smile. But damn if that little fireball thing that he made wasn’t fucking cool as hell as it exploded that fish guy. Like get fucked
Garp: I liked his actor. I don’t know much about the character himself but I liked his actor and I thought he was pretty cool for a Vice-Admiral. But I have to ask the fans...what is up with the dog hat?
Koby: Apparently according to fans he’s not that big in the anime/manga but I liked him here. I thought he was cute, in a bright-eyed, bushy tailed kind of way. A good kid. And I’m glad he and Luffy became friends
Villains:
Alvida: Oh, she was cool. Her and her big ass spiked clubs? Fuck yeah, my dudes. That was fucking cool
Buggy: Loved the actor, hate the character. Buggy is just creepy as shit. But I also hate clowns so there’s that. But the actor really did bring something to this guy where like...you definitely got that there was something off about him but he wasn’t overbearing. The CGI for him was *shudders* but also really cool
Arlong: Oh my god, I hated the character but the actor’s voice???? Hello??? I could listen to that man speak all day, holy shit, I could not get over his voice. His character though, was a dick and I’m glad he got his pagoda fucking smashed on his fucking head, he deserved it after what he did to Nami and what he fucking put her through.
Now, will this live action make me want to read the manga or watch the anime? No. But did I enjoy the fuck out of it? Yeah, yeah I fucking did. I haven’t screeched with laughter in god knows how long and it was really good to watch/binge and while I may not understand a lot of the background or the plot, I still really enjoyed it and could follow along pretty well.
But also, for the fans because I am genuinely curious...does Luffy ever find the One Piece?

Okay, I watched the live-action One Piece.
I actually don't hate it.
(Mostly.)
the things they did wrong
The fishmen. The makeup is really, really horrible. They went for "realistic"-looking skin and it just does. not. work. And the prosthetics are just bad. Really, really bad. Arlong isn't big enough. He keeps threatening to bite people but his mouth is so small relative to the rest of his face (especially because of said prosthetics) so you can't really take it seriously. It's just bad, y'all.
The den den mushi. Sooooooooooo creepy. The texture is awful and they need better puppetry.
The emotional moments don't quite hit it like the original story does. Each of my absolute favourite moments from the original have been changed juuuuuuuust enough to not give quite the same punch.
Luffy doesn't feel like Luffy. There's a very specific sort of whimsy that Luffy exudes and this guy just doesn't have it. To be fair! it is a very difficult thing to pull off! But it's also, like ... really integral to the whole story. He's got the wrong kind of smile and we never hear him giggle. He should be 100% guileless and he's just not quite there. Nami doesn't feel like Nami. She's not expressive enough, or bossy enough. She keeps trying to be the holding-everything-in-stoically type and that's just not Nami. She holds back as far as information goes, especially in the beginning, but her feelings are pretty much on her sleeve otherwise. Zoro's personality is off just a bit. He's just a bit too grumpy. We see him smile like twice. We never see him get really excited, and the one time he gets moderately excited he's still pretty stone-faced about it. Also, not letting him get genuinely happy about booze makes him come off less as really enjoying one vice and more just being a sad alcoholic. And he doesn't fully commit to the crew soon enough. He's the type to be all or nothing, so he needs to be all in from the get-go. Sanji can't do a French accent, which is kind of hilarious because he just sort of goes for An Accent and so he'll start a sentence with something that's, like, vaguely British? but then if the sentence is long enough he'll find Vaguely French halfway through.
Everyone is too old. Kaya is supposed to be 18 but that actress is in her 30s for sure. Even the kids are kids that are too old for the parts they need to play.
Except for Mihawk, who's a bit too young. Also his fake beard doesn't look great.
Some of the effects for things like Luffy stretching and Buggy coming apart. Again, tbf, this was always something that would be a problem in a live-action recreation, so it's only a minor annoyance. But there's definitely a couple of little things they could have changed that would have made a big difference in believability.
A lot of the crowd shots have a case of Main Character Syndrome. This actually helps the audience pick out important people at Gold Roger's execution, but it's kind of funny when you see Zoro among his classmates at the dojo or Nami and Nojiko with the rest of Coco Village and are like "HMMM I WONDER WHO THE MAIN CHARACTER COULD BE."
Trying a bit too hard to interconnect everything. They keep both Buggy and Arlong relevant for too long (Buggy by keeping him after his arc, Arlong by having him show up early). Garp being around for the whole show is sort of interesting and funny but it makes me wonder if they're even planning on getting to Water 7, and how they're gonna do that if they do.
the things they did right
Verbally acknowledging Zoro as the first mate. The original never dies that even though he totally is.
The wanted posters. They did a great job of recreating the posters, and the little effects they do overlaying them when they introduce new characters is fun.
Pretty much everyone's physicality. Especially Zoro and Sanji. They're very accurate to the original. Just the way Zoro stands and walks is 100% Zoro. Captain Kuro managed to be cool and creepy instead of looking stupid. Usopp's face is surprisingly spot-on.
On a related note, the fight scenes were well-choreographed. And there were a few cool shots where the camera followed someone who was jumping around.
Anything that can be a practical effect is a practical effect. It doesn't always pay off *cough* fishmen and den den mushi *cough* but it usually does, and I very much appreciate the effort.
Each arc is one episode long. 'Nuff said. Y'all know how long these damn arcs can stretch.
The Vibes. They did a really, really good job of making it ridiculous without making it ridiculous, if you know what I mean. A lot of that is thanks to the abundance of practical effects. A lot more is the lighting. They also had fun with camera angles and focus/blur to just keep things feeling not-quite-real in a way that helps rather than hinders the suspension of disbelief. They also made the show overall darker than the original, which I usually hate but in this case it really works: You can't take things like the Chop Chop Fruit or Zoro's penchant for cutting people up out of a cartoon and into a live-action without it automatically getting creepier, so leaning in to that was absolutely the right choice. It also kind of made Buggy's arc feel more real and high-stakes.
All the little details. There were a lot of them. All the characters are at least vaguely the correct nationality from Oda's Q&A tidbits. When Zoro is laid up, Nami reads him Liar Norland. You can see Mihawk's ship in the bay outside of Roger's execution. At one point you can hear "Binks' Sake" playing in the background. Just about every single costume was accurate to the original, and the sets were incredibly detailed. There are so many little details in every single bit of it that tell you that the people who made this were paying attention, and frankly that alone makes me far more inclined to forgive any mistakes I feel they've made.

Usopp x reader please? Drawing his partner (not like a French girl) thank you!
I love Usopp so much you have no idea how excited I was to write this. He's one of my fav characters and I just really really love him and no one requests him.
SFW Usopp x NB Reader.
Fluffy domestic shit (aka my fav)
742 word Drabble.
Very willing to do a part two or more Usopp.
“Please let me see Usopp?” You asked again, arms wrapped around him from behind, pawing at the sketchbook in his hands. You had caught him drawing out on the deck of the ship, but He never wanted to show anyone his sketches, not even you.
“No no no,” he said, holding the sketchbook at arms length so you couldn't reach it. “It's way too embarrassing.”
“Aww please, pretty please Uso~~” you pleaded, burying your head in his neck, lips kissing against his skin softly, but felt him shake his head no in reply.
“Your drawings are always so gorgeous, I just wanna see!” Despite your soft pleading, your hands were still reaching at the book in his hands, just out of reach.
“What if I promise to pose for you?” You felt him freeze up in your arms like his heart stopped beating, and you looked up at his face to see his cheeks flushed, a small drop of blood at his nostril. You flicked the end of his nose playfully, “Not like that,” you chuckled, “not this time at least~”
He wiped his nose with the back of his hand, and let you finally grasp at the sketchbook in his hand, he turned his nose up proudly, pouting his lip a bit before letting you take it from him, “But you can't tease me for anything in there!”
“No promises~” you teased, taking the sketchbook.
You both adjusted in your seated position so you could lean against his arm as you thumbed through the pages. He drew so much that you didn't realize, sketches of the other crew members, places you had been, little bits of cool architecture he was interested in, or scenery that was beautiful. He had pages of little comics about his conquests” some of which looked like parts had been torn out to send back home in his letters to Kaya or his little ‘former crew’. But littered around a lot of the pages were many sketches of you. Smiling, laughing, spending time with the girls, training with Zoro, helping Sanji bring supplies back to the ship, passing tools to Franky, napping in the crows nest when you were on watch together; all little candid things that he found lovely about you.
You looked up at his face, he was hiding his eyes behind his hand, squishing down his cheeks and ready for you to tease him about it. You couldn't though, it was too sincere. Too much of himself between the pages to tease him even a little bit.
“Usopp, you're so unbelievably talented,” you took his hand from his face, leaving the book propped open on your legs to a particularly beautiful sketch, shaded and gently colored, of you leaning against the mast, staring off into the sunset. “I can't believe this is how you see me.”
He snapped from being shy about his work to being defensive, “Of course that's how I see you! You're gorgeous! You're so much more than I deserve and every second that you call yourself my partner I want to remember it forever!” His face was flushed again, and the passion in his eyes told you how honest he was being with you in the moment, how scared he was that maybe you would see him how he saw himself and not want to be with him, how much he loved you.
You closed the book and moved to kiss him before he could keep rambling on, tilting your head to avoid clashing noses and locking lips with your boyfriend. You felt his body soften gently at your touch and your affection, and he wrapped his arms around you, kissing you back.
“I love you, so much, I'll be yours forever, don't you worry about that,” you said when your lips parted, brushing his curly locks away from his face where they fell during his defense of you, staring into his deep brown eyes. “I wish you could see yourself how I do.”
He smiled sadly at your words, “I'm not sure that will happen, but as long as you see me that way, that's all I need.” He held you close in a hug, not wanting to let you go, cherishing someone who was so unbelievably perfect for him.
You pulled away a bit, kissing him on the tip of his nose, “C’mon, let me make good on my promise.” You smiled at him, handing the sketchbook back.
#one piece#usopp#usopp x reader#one piece x reader#reader insert#I would also probably enjoy writing some angsty sad stuff for usopp bc I relate to the ~depression~#but this is 98% fluff I promise#just that little 2% negative personality usopp

crown the king (with bloody flowers) - 17
Hanahaki au drabble series, in which Luffy is in love with the sea. Ao3 Links in reblog
chapter 17 - flower crown - usopp
Usopp is the first to do it, surprisingly. Or maybe, its unsurprising given his knack for creativity. He’s on deck, taking up flower brushing duty that day, sweeping off piles of petals that find their ways into the corner of Merry’s cracks, when he stumbles upon an idea.
The petals are cleaner, cleaner than usual, signifying a good day for their captain. Less blood and more petals was always good. (It’d be better if there were none, but Luffy was impossible like that.)
This means, however, that Usopp can do things with them, without dark thoughts creeping in.
Usopp abandons his broom and sits down before a pile, ready to weave.
-
It is an hour later when he figures out how to make a crown without long stems to braid with. He used to do this before, with Kaya on hillsides on better days, but those were only with daisies.
Now, he weaves crowns of celandines and cosmos’s, cowslips and hyacinths, jasmines and azleas and bougainvilleas. His captain was happy today, and as Usopp hums beneath his breath, hands working at a steady pace over the quiet of the sea, he is happy too.
With a final twist of a petal, a flower crown emerges of happy yellow and pinks and whites, with only a little bit of dried red at the edges. It’s good, for a first try.
Usopp puts it on his head, tentatively, and looks in the mirror he has stored in his bag for blinding attacks.
It settles gently over his head, ruffled by the breeze but not blowing away, and Usopp is *proud.* A flower crown, fit for a king.
Usopp eyes flit to where Luffy is sitting on the figure head, and knows who’s head will next be crowned with flowers.
Alas, he has no more flowers right now.
Maybe there are some -
“Looking for more?”
“AH” Usopp startles at the voice, whipping around. “Nami! Robin!”
There she is, their navigator taking a break from the helm and holding a pile of flowers - some bloody, and some not. Next to her, Robin holds more, as well with a bowl of water, red drifting through it and dried petals in several more of her hands.
“Fufufufu!” Robin chuckles, her eyes lighting up as Usopp settles back down. “We thought we could lend a hand to your endeavors, Longnose.” A hand pops up to adjust the crown on Usopp’s head, and something in his shoulders relaxes at that.
He smiles, sitting back down and gesturing for the others to do so. They have flower crowns to weave before their Captain turns from that endless horizon, and Usopp knows he’ll want everyone to have one.
(Their captain is selfish like that, coughing up blood and flowers to share with his crew. Its an odd kind of selfish, but Usopp loves him anyway.)
-
Zoro drifts over at some point, nodding to them then going to sleep by the figurehead, the ever watchful first mate. Sanji appears with snacks and hands able to weave flowers faster than the rest of them once Usopp shows him how. Chopper weaves celandines and cosmos’s and roses with a surgeons precision, and soon, each of them is wearing a flower crown adorned with small bits of blood on their heads.
“A bit morbid,” Chuckles Robin, but there is glee on her face, softly hidden, as she accepts a pink and purple blossoming crown. “Our captain, giving us his blood to wear…”
“Robinnnn,” Whines Chopper next to her, pulling at her pant legs. “I washed them he best I could! Petals tear very easily!”
Sanji places a hand on his head, patting it twice. “And you did good, Chopper. There’s a lot less than when we started.”
“You Bastard! That doesn’t make me happy!”
But he’s right. The flowers float gently in their hair, even stained with remnants of blood they are *beautiful,* and the puddles Luffy chokes up aren’t there, not anymore.
Everyone has a smile on their face, and Usopp is proud of what he made out of this death omen.
Now, all that’s left is to give one to Luffy.
A crown, fit for a king. One created wholly by him, shaped by his friend’s hands. Usopp thinks he would be more excited by the poeticness of it if he’d thought Luffy would have cared.
His captain has time for action and stories and world-turning phrases. Not some poetry Usopp doesn’t care about.
Besides - this crown, laden with every flower near perfect condition they could find, clean and beautiful, fit to the brim and wide enough to fit around Luffy’s hat like a true crown - is perfect.
And -
“SHIT!” Zoro cries from the bow, and then there is splashing and coughing and calling before their captain is pulled up on deck.
30 seconds, Usopp thinks, belatedly, as Luffy is wrapped in towels and scolded with a single glare by a soaking wet Zoro. Faster save time than before. Good.
It doesn’t take long for Luffy to start coughing, Zoro rubbing gentle circles on his back as buttercups fall to the deck. But, it also doesn’t take long for him to look up, coughing fit over, and see his crew, and their lovely, lovely crowns made by their captain’s blood.
Luffy’s eyes grow wide and there is joy there, unmistakeable joy as he laughs. “Shishishi! You guys look great! Can I have one?”
He doesn’t even finish his question before Zoro pushes his hat over his eyes and Nami places the crown on Luffy’s hat.
“Of course, captain,” she says, smiling, terribly fond of this brat, and Usopp wonders if his voice gets like that when he talks to Luffy sometimes.
Luffy laughs, again, pushing his hat up and looking at all of them with such love it hurts. He doesn’t even look at the crown, trusting his crew made it beautiful for him, and turns to the pile of flowers they still have left, lying on the ground, and the ones he just coughed up.
“I want to make one too!” He says, and it’s not and order but his crew treats it as one. “For Merry!”
“Aye, Captain!” They chorus, settling down around him. Merry deserves one, their beloved lamb ship.
She’ll look beautiful decorated in blossoms instead of blood, Usopp thinks.
Together, their crew cleans and weaves and shapes flowers into a crown big enough for their ship, some hands helping (everyone besides -) and others not (Zoro (sleeping,) and Luffy (Luffy.)). There is laughter and cheer, even when Luffy breaks to cough and slumps into Usopp’s side for the briefest of moments. They have dinner, out there, weaving a crown of flowers, before she is finally finished.
Beautiful, bloody, and a crown fit for a king.
When Luffy does the honors of placing it on Merry’s head, a king crowning a lamb, Usopp knows Merry is the prettiest ship of them all.
(Later that night, when Luffy is slumped into Usopp’s side during the night watch Luffy interrupted, Usopp learns a secret.
“My brothers and I used to make flower crowns,” Luffy mumbles, uncharacteristically quiet and half asleep. “Makino showed us how.”
“Yeah?” Usopp prompts as he adjusts the blanket covering them. Brothers? Usopp only knew Ace but… he didn’t know Ace till he saved all their asses. It’s no wonder Luffy would have more, terrifying, family.
“Mmhm. It was nice. Thanks for doing it again… Usopp… You’re the.. best..” Luffy’s words slur before dropping off entirely, a smile still on his face as he huddles up next to Usopp.
The flower crown is still on his hat, and Usopp adjusts it a little, ever so slightly.
“You’re welcome, Captain.” He says, dropping his head to rest atop Luffy’s. “You’re welcome.”
He doesn’t whisper to Luffy that he’d follow him to the ends of the Earth if he could, if he wasn’t such a coward, but he thinks Luffy knows that anyway.
His captain is great like that.
Always.)

Usopp, the marksman of the pirates. His story starts of in a normal village. His grandfather didn't throw him to the wolves to toughen him up and he wasnt a biologically engineered super soldier gone wrong. Usopp was the son of a pirate, though he never knew his father as Yasopp left for the seas when Ussop was still a young child. He spent his childhood doing normal kid things. He did meet a girl named Kaya who he began telling stories to. As he didnt really have any exciting stories to tell he just made stuff up. He spun his tales of legend, usually with him as the main character, even when he was getting chased out of her home by her guards. He also took up the habit of lying to the other villagers, who appreciated it much less. Eventually one of Kayas servants plotted to kill her and take over the fortune left to her by her parents. Usopp found out about this and tried to warn the villagers who didnt believe him, in a sort of "Boy who cried wolf" fashion. Then the Straw hat pirates show up, help him and Kaya out, and recruit Usopp. The crew sails out on a ship commissioned by Kaya for them.
Throughout the adventure, Usopp is regularly thrown into situations well over his head. One of his first big fights is against a fish person who can shoot water like canonballs from his mouth and superhuman strength to boot. But he's still just a normal guy with a slingshot. And yet, he still wins. It's the theme of most of his fights, he's always the underdog. As his journey continues he learns as he goes. He invents new ways to fight, helping Nami by making her her own weapon. He upgrades his own and is pretty much always doing something. Though his body might be that of a normal person, his willpower stands alongside the rest of the Strawhats. He's taken some serious beating and still stood back up, knowing that he's powerless to stop his enemies from beating him back down. The fight against Mr. 4 and Mrs. Merry Christmas is a really good example. He's also the only Strawhat to quit the crew by standing up to the captain for his own beliefs (Don't @ me about Sanji, it's different). He's probably the strawhat character that, despite specifically being a funnyman character, is the one played the most straight. That is to say, he's the most seriously written crew member. Ussop isn't there just to be another gag, he's an actual character written with a purpose in mind regarding the story.
Now, that all being said, Usopp is a...
Page of Mind
One who creates [Mind]/provides others with [Mind]
The specifics of the Mind aspect are still shrouded in mystery but I think I have a decent grasp of what it entails. The first thing I’d like to mention is how the aspect in question starts off absent in the Page. Just as Jake was hopeless, Usopp began his journey mindless. Not to say that he was a zombie wandering aimlessly or that he never thought about anything (Though both of those would make a pretty strong case for Page of Mind). Usopp spent most of his time just, doing whatever. Pranking the townsfolk and lying to Kaya without regard to any consequences, are the initial signs of his Mindlessness. When we look at a more normal Mind player we can see how completely opposite that really is. Terezi thought about everything to an abnormal degree. Most obvious in her crime games but also apparent in many of the choices she made throughout the story. Chasing after his father’s dreams without much of a second thought is another perfect example. Not that Usopp couldn’t want to be a pirate, but he just wanted to do it because he thought his dad was cool.
But as the Page realizes themselves and their journey continues they become much more of a ‘normal’ player. Usopp quickly learns that he needs to change. He’s outmatched in every field and has to win by having one hell of a plan. Most of his victories can be partially attributed to his enemies underestimating him, allowing Usopp to get off lucky hits. He starts showing up to fights with more than just his dinky little slingshot. He adds weapons and tools to his kit and refines them even more. Eventually, he’s even able to stand up to Luffy. The guy who’s been out monster-ing the monsters Ussop has been struggling to defeat the whole journey. He doesn’t win, but it’s a hell of a fight. It’s probably the most character development we see in all of One Piece honestly. His actions start really making waves. In the Dressrosa arc Ussop ends up screaming in someone’s face earning the title “God Usopp” and getting a bounty 200,000,000 million more that Luffy’s. He’s no longer someone you can ignore.
As for the creating [Mind] And providing others with it, you don’t have to look very hard. He outfits Nami with her personal weapon of his own design, allowing her to actually get up off the sidelines. Being another normal person just like Usopp, she’s also got to use her head to win her fights but now she can. His actions also light a fire underneath Kaya, pushing her to become a doctor as quick as she can. The final example of this category is Merry Herself. The ship ends up gaining sentience, in no small part to Usopp's love and care. The rest of the crew is a part of it obviously but it’s not a stretch of the imagination to say Usopp had the biggest role.
In the Strawhat session, Usopp is definitely one of the more vulnerable members. He’s not exactly the most capable, as is typical of early Pages. I wouldn’t count him out though. I feel like his strength would be in figuring out some sick alchemy business. Never underestimate someone who can actually make stuff outside of alchemy. Combining the two leads to a sure path to making some real broken stuff. Ussop’s personal quest would likely involve something similar to the revelation he has in the Boin Archipelago (Timeskip island) where he realizes not being able to do stuff isn’t an excuse for not doing things. There’s always time to learn. Old dogs can learn new tricks, and sometimes, they need to.

(Since you didn't say to whom he was confessing to, I'm gonna assume you mean that he's confessing to an s.o or a thrid person reader, also I'm very rusty since I haven'twritten a scenario in almost a year so I honestly hope it comes out decently. I hope you enioy senpai and I love yah too!)
~ Luffy confessing his love under the stars ~
It's the middle of the night, the strawhats are all sound asleep and the Sunny is quiet with only the sound of the waves keeping it company. The door to the deck opens and shows two figures walking out on to the center of the grassy floored deck.
"Hey 'y/n', so why did you want to go out on the deck again?" Luffy asks while sitting down cross legged next to them. His crewmate smiles and lays down on the grass, looking up at the skies.
"Well, when you said you wanted to tell me something important, I told Zoro that we were gonna take watch tonight since he did it last night. Also I like looking at the stars so I figured it would be nice if you told me while we were outside." They pat the ground, looking up at him. "Come on, cap. Look at the stars with me."
"Oh, okay." He lays down next to them, arms spread out. They gaze at the night sky littered to the brim with stars, both being deathly quiet as their steady breathing is their only sign of life. "C--tain, cap--in, cap!"
"Yeah?!" He stares at them startled.
"You've been quiet for five minutes, weren't you gonna tell me something important?"
"Yeah? Oh yeah! Um.... uh, I actually don't know how to tell you this."
"Did I do something wrong?"
"No! No, it's just that I can't find the right word for it."
"Well, if it's not me, then what is it?"
"Well.... it's just that I've been feeling weird and it only happens when I'm around you."
"Weird how? Luffy, are you okay?"
"I'm okay, this feeling is like when Shanks talked to Makino, he makes her so happy and she makes him happy, kinda like how Ace and Sabo made me happy, but they're a different kind of happy."
"Luffy?"
"And whenever Sanji talks to you like he does with Nami and Robin, I feel like I just wanna hold you close and when he gets close, I get mad. I don't know why and I don't like this feeling."
"Luffy."
"Yeah?"
"Luffy, how long have you felt that way?"
"I don't know, I started to act like this right after we met but, this feeling got stronger after we got back to the Sunny two years later."
"Luffy, do you like me?"
"Like you? Of course I like you! I like Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Usso--"
"No, I mean a different kind of like."
"... I don't get it."
"Well..." They roll on their side look at Luffy, their head resting on a hand. Luffy looks at them but averts his eyes back at the sky with a slight rosy tint on his cheek. "The way you like your crew is in the same way you like your family or a friend. What I'm reffering to is the way two parents like each other--"
"I never met my parents."
"Okay, bad example..... hm, alright! Think of the way Ussop likes Kaya, from the stories you've told me, he cares for her very deeply and would do anything to keep her safe and happy, right?"
"Yeah! But.... I don't know. It's like when you're near, I just wanna hold you tight and never let go. I wanna make you smile and laugh all the time and I want to be with you everyday."
"L-Luffy."
He sits up and looks at them, his grey eyes boring into theirs. He puts out his hand slowly and places it on theirs. He remembers that Shanks used to do this to Makino and it always made her smile and look away. They blush when they feel his hand on theirs but ends up holding his.
"Hancock used to say this all the time, but I think it sounds better than what you just told me. 'Y/N'... I love you."
"....."
"Y/N?"
"I love you too, Luffy."
He gives them his signature grin, an overwhelming surge of excitement fills his body and he doesn't control himself when he spreads his arms out at them and hugs them. His rubbery arms wrap around them while they stare off with a stunned look.
"Shishishishi! This feels great! I wanna be like this all the time! Right, y/n? ..... Y'N?" They stay silent, their face is red as Luffy's smile is the only thing they see. With a soft smile, they hug him back.
"You dork, I love you so much."
"I love you too! Shishishishi!"
Both pirates hug each other for a short while until they lay back down and stare out at the stars. The gentle splashes of the waves and the flapping mast lules them to sleep, holding each other's hands in the process.
