enji todoroki has always struck me as a guy whose father was super ridiculously orphan beating kitten drowning levels abusive and he was like 'as long as i dont do that then i cant possibly be doing child abuse' which is. Incorrect.

Okay so like. Canon. Canon gives us VERY little on Enji's parents other than his father's death and how that effected him. Though yes the effect does imply that he loved his father.

But I do think the 'I'm not a fucking monster so clearly I'm not awful?". Both in general because he'd have basic knowledge of abuse existing, but also he's seen Hell through his job.

In Road to Hell, the way I wrote his father is that Enji is very much repeating the cycle of abuse because he doesn't realize the things that happened were 'wrong', and is very much exactly like his father.

So! Enji's Parents!

I did give them names in Road to Hell. Rin and Homura. I have little tidbits about them that I love. High school sweethearts. They wanted multiple kids. Homura planned to start a bakery. Rin's Quirk is a mutation I've talked about before, giving him horns and a tail, while Homura's was to be able to heat things up(not full fire but temperature change). So on and so forth.

Things went sideways because Homura died due to complications when Enji was born.

Rin was now a single father. Only his own income and a newborn to take care of. So he blew through his savings to be able to take care of Enji himself the first few years.

But this resulted in kinda. Making Enji grow up a little too fast in some ways. By the time he was about five or six, Enji was already able to do things like walk himself home from school and make dinner. Rin was always working to earn back what he'd lost, so there were a lot of 'daddy calls to say he picked up an extra shift' days, where Enji would have dinner alone and go to bed.

Rin was also physically abusive in a... .I don't want to say 'subtle' way. But he wasn't just some asshole smacking the kid around for no reason. Enji had to do something 'bad', and punishment was physical harm. While Enji was a pretty good kid, he was still a kid. He'd break a rule here and there. Sometimes small like 'don't eat on the couch you eat at the table', or sometimes bigger like skipping school to see a movie. Rin very much loved him and would also be kind to him otherwise.

at the same time, Rin was very much traumatized by the whole 'his wife died' thing. Which was unintentionally used to guilt trip Enji. "She died so you could live, so you'd better be something great".

Ofc Rin also dies when Enji is in middle school. Which gives its own trauma.

all of this is stuff I have Enji repeating with his own kids.

When Rei's in the hospital, he doesn't see anything 'weird' about Fuyumi stepping up and taking on Rei's housewife duties and making dinner for the family and other such things. He was far younger when he had to do the same after all.

While Enji might not see the need to get physical over smaller rule breaking that timeout or grounding can deal with, bigger things will 'deserve' physicality.

and yeah the obvious: taking his own traumas and projecting it on his kid(s) hoping that their existence will make everything worth it/fix everything.

There's other factors too. Like Enji not seeing much issue with Toya and Fuyumi being left to watch over Natsuo and Shoto because he was often babysitting the neighbor kids or keeping an eye on the various foster siblings that rotated through.

Speaking of we can swing to the whole 'there are people who are way fucking worse' thing.

Because yeah the handful of temporary foster siblings that rolled through were the first tangible experience of the more horrific abuse. Not just 'physical harm as punishment'(which is still abuse but gets seen differently). But he knew kids whose parents would get drunk and kick the shit out of them and cause far more damage than just a bruise. Parents who didn't at least provide food for the kid to make themselves dinner even if they could cook. Not to mention worse horrors like sexual abuse!

Then there's things that Enji would see on the job. It might not be often, but he does run across horrific family situations. For example, everything with Hawks.

You also have a different example of abuse with Rei. Her parents weren't physically abusive, but they treated her as an object rather than a person.

So Enji looks at all these examples of shitty parenting. Then looks at his own kids who are, in comparison, well taken care of? Nothing looks wrong! That's totally the same normal and happy childhood he had! Even better actually because he has way too much fucking money and the kids have siblings for company!

(I do low-key have a scene written where he's talking with Midnight and just kind of like "..... I think I had a bad childhood." and girl is like 'Yeah I know.")

Summary: Three bands rule UA University's campus: Bakusquad, Dekusquad, and League of Villains. In a college town where music is the lifeblood, these three bands struggle to shine the brightest against the crowd. However, in addition to expressing themselves through song, each band member is just simply trying to graduate and find themselves throughout their lives at UA University.

Chapter 1: BreakUp & Intro

“GET OUT!” Dabi screams, shoving Hawks toward the door of his apartment. Hawks promptly turns around and grabs his boyfriend by the wrists, keeping him from pushing him. 

“C’mon Dabs. Lemme explain!” Hawks shouts back in an almost nonchalant manner, as if Dabi’s simply overreacting. 

“EXPLAIN WHAT, MOTHERFUCKER? EXPLAIN HOW YOU WEREN’T CHEATING ON ME WHEN I CAUGHT YOU FUCKING PROFESSOR KAYAMA?!” Dabi growls, trying to hold back tears as he attempts to wrestle free from the jock’s grip. 

“I don’t know what you’re talking about man,” Hawks scoffs. Dabi activates his Quirk, making Hawks cry out and release him. Dabi angrily tears his phone out of his pocket and pulls up the video footage. 

“I CAUGHT YOU SNEAKING HER IN ON THE FUCKING RING DOORBELL IDIOT! DID YOU FORGET I HAVE A CAMERA, OR DID YOU WANT ME TO FIND OUT THIS WAY THAT YOU’RE FUCKING OUR CHEMISTRY TEACHER?!” Dabi snarls, “THIS IS MY APARTMENT! I’M GONNA HAVE TO GET A WHOLE NEW BED! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME AFTER EVERYTHING I’VE DONE FOR YOU?!” 

“Pfft. And what exactly have you done for me, Toya?” Hawks snaps, and Dabi grits his teeth. 

“I told you, that’s not my name anymore,” The scarred man seethes, balling his hands up into fists. “And what the fuck is that supposed to mean?"

“It means. All you do is sit in your room, study, and write music. We don’t go to bars anymore. We never go on dates anymore. You won’t come with me to my fraternity’s parties. You refuse to do anything but fucking stay holed up like some loser,” Hawks says coldly, staring him dead in the face. 

“I told you . I’m going through a rough time right now. Music helps me calm down and feel better. You used to like my music-” Dabi starts, trying to remain calm, but Hawks rudely cuts him off. 

“Yeah, yeah. Your mom died last year and you’ve still got daddy issues, boohoo. My folks have been absent for years. You’ll get over it.” 

Dabi can feel his heart shattering. Ever since Hawks started making more friends and joining new crowds, he’d become a totally different person. They were high school sweethearts, going into their third year of dating and their junior year of college. They’d been living together for a whole year, though it was Dabi’s name on the lease. He just let Hawks continuously crash there. But…as the years went by…he realized that Hawks was no longer the person he fell in love with. He wanted so desperately for it to not be true, but his words just confirmed it. Dabi storms off, running straight into the bedroom. He grabs Hawks’ duffel bag, which reeks of weed, and tears it open before harshly pulling open drawers in the dresser. Dabi throws Hawks belongings into the bag and storms back into the living room before shoving the bag into his hands. 

“Get. The fuck. Out of here,” Dabi says through gritted teeth, feeling tears well up in his eyes. Hawks laughs in his face. 

“Seriously? That’s it? Toya, we’ve been through too mu-”

“THAT’S NOT MY FUCKING NAME AND I WANT YOU OUT OF MY FUCKING APARTMENT! NOW! GET THE HELL OUT AND DON’T COME BACK! WE’RE DONE! THIS ‘LOSER’ IS DUMPING YOUR SORRY ASS! GO LIVE IN YOUR STUPID FRAT HOUSE WITH ALL YOUR STUPID FRIENDS WHO ARE BETTER THAN ME!” Dabi screams, igniting his hands, threatening to get violent. Hawks’ eyes narrow and he puffs his chest out. 

“Fine. I don’t need you anyway,” He snorts, rolling his eyes as he walks out of the front door and slams it behind him. Dabi sinks to the ground in the middle of the living room and completely loses it, crying his heart out and ruining his eyeliner. 

“FUCK!!!!!!!” He screams until his throat hurts, not caring if he gets a noise complaint. He feels like his heart was just ripped out of his chest. In truth, his friends warned him that this would happen.

They’d formed a band freshman year, after Dabi (then, Toya) met them at orientation. Dabi is majoring in biology and is set on becoming a veterinarian, which his father rather frowned upon. Nonetheless, his new friends were eager to support him. Twice (third-year theatre major) is the lead vocalist, Tomura (third-year computer science major) plays the bass, Spinner (third-year exercise and sport science major) is the drummer, and Compress (third-year history major) plays the keyboard. Dabi writes the songs, plays his electric guitar, and sings backup (or provides screams whenever needed for their harder songs). Last year, they’d welcomed a freshman (now-sophomore)  into their band; a girl named Himiko Toga (theatre major) who had a siren-like voice and an astounding vocal range. She and Twice were the headlining vocalists of their band: League of Villains. 

This year, Dabi’s younger brother, Shoto (first-year biological engineering major), also formed a band with his friends. Shoto was two years younger than Dabi but was far more gifted in their father’s eyes. Shoto was the favorite. Dabi didn’t resent him for it; in fact, Shoto loathed their father as much as Dabi did. Like his older brother, Shoto was the guitarist and co-lyricist for his friends’ band: Dekusquad, named after the lead vocalist’s stage name: Deku (first-year mechanical engineering major). The other co-lyricist was a girl named Tsuyu Asui (first-year ecology major), who also played the keyboard in the band. Their bassist and backup vocalist was Ochaco Uraraka (first-year astrophysics major), and their drummer was named Tenya Ida (first-year accounting major). However, Shoto’s band had a prominent rival on UA University Campus: Bakusquad. 

Bakusquad was an up-and-coming alternative group of freshmen with a lead vocalist whose range was almost as glorious as Toga’s. Mina Ashido (first-year dance major) had the timbre of Rihanna and the tenacity of P!nk. Mina and their drummer, Katsuki Bakugo (first-year chemistry major), wrote the lyrics for their songs. The drummer’s boyfriend, Ejiro Kirishima (first-year exercise and sport science major), played the bass, while their other best friends, Denki Kaminari (first-year electrical engineering major) and Hanta Sero (first-year graphic design major), played the keyboard and guitar respectively. 

The music scene of Musutafu was always a key part of the culture, and UA University often brought some big names in music to light. Music was a way for the students to express themselves; it was a way to relieve stress and dish out emotions whether they be love, hate, anger, happiness, despair, or frustration. Music keeps the students of UA University alive.

Having a baby is not easy.

Fuck those books for newly parents whose said "Having a baby does not give much work", no. Hell no. Ever smelled a dirty diaper? Its gross. Plenty of gross. SUPER GROSS. Pukes, drools you name it.

Yet you couldn't be more happier. Your daughter Rei despite being a troublemaker was the light of your life. And for her father, her little firecrackers. A stupid nickname for a baby, but oh well, that's the man you fell for.

"Dabi-" you called from the kitchen after washing the dishes, damn sink washed you along with it "Stop teaching Rei about how awfull Enji is-" you giggled "Probably she will never meet him!"

He turned to look at you over his shoulder, his baby girl on the middle of his legs as she pointed at the hero on the screen and ocasionally mumbled irritated and angry baby noises.

The damage was done.

"She at least is learning about the fake hero society. Cant disagree with me that Enji is a completely as-"

"Dabi." You scolded but smiled no pess as hs smirked before Rei started to babble on his lap, extending her chubby hands at his face.

"What now lil' firecracker? Tired of seing Enji's face I see. Dont worry. I get sick from sieng him to." He grabbed her bu her armpits and nuzzled his pierced nose along with hers making her giggled "Yes, daddy does."

"I wonder how the league would react to seing you all mushy with a baby like that." You giggled while sitting down on his side as he only glanced at you with a poker face.

Rei extended her arms at you and let out a baby laugh. Cooing, you picked up your daughter with glee in your lap. Dabi still playing with her tiny fingers along with his own much bigger ones.

"Her hair is getting bigger." You tussled on the few red looks of Rei "Maybe is time for her first haircut, what do you think?" You looked at Dabi whose probably was way too distracted with Reu to even pay attention on you.

You were so relieved that even despite showing signs that he was aprehensive at the idea, Dabi still welcomed Rei with open arms. The only problem was that, deep inside his sarcastic and thick skull, was this unconditional fear of being the same father Endeavour was. Give his kid the same treatment he received as a brat once.

It always followed him around like a ghost. But in the moment he saw Rei's eyes or heard your words... he was on cloud nine. The happines he hadn't gotten in his early years was right there, literally on his hands as he played with the bundle of joy that was Rei.

"Sorry to interrupt you two." You giggled at the confused sound Dabi let out before looking at the clock. Sighing and getting up.

"Guess is your turn to put her to sleep." He said begrudily, making you laugh since you never saw someone fight over to put their child to sleep first. You two had to make an agrement that each time Rei was going to sleep, you had to divide.

"My turn~" you poked your tongue out at him as he deadpanned while you carried Rei to her crib.

After some time, you two decided to have some, ahem, alone time and it let you two quite exausted. Making you both to just knocked out on the bed... especially since dabi was eager to touch in any way he could.

In other words, fast and rough yet pleasant ass fuck. Okay? Okay, moving on.

Although that peace lasted for only a short of minutes before you heard little cries from the other room of the apartment. Both of you groaned even at the thought of getting out of the bed.

When you tried to get off from his chest he just pulled you back as you groaned.

"Dabi, Rei is-"

"I will go. Stay here doll face." He got up while carefully laying you back down on the bed, his smirk present as the light of the streets iluminated his face. "After all, I bet you're exausted after me doing-"

"Just go you dickhead." You threw a pillow at him as he chuckled quietly, leaving your body relax on the cold sheets and without his warm body to help you.

The blankets werent enough. Is not even about to get warm, but is only for getting physical and emotionally close to ex-villain you happen to fall in love with.

Getting to know the real Toya Dabi was like founding a diamond on the middle of a bunch of coals. Due to his past, no one could ever blame this man to secluded to himself, have trust issues and have a deep anger angst the fake and popular hero society that everyone always venerate.

The man behind that sarcastic, cold and uncaring persona was a dork. No, really, Dabi is a dork. A loveable dorky idiot. You loved him, and you only fell more for the scarred man when he demonstrate all the love and care for that little human being that had your genetics along with his.

Lost on your thoughts, you furrowed your eyebrows at seeing that dabi hadn't come back in more than one hour. Sighing, you got up and went after Dabi and your Rei.

Although, when you were on your way you heard his voice. Probably even baby talking; yes, rarely he does that; with Rei. You tip toed until you exited your bedroom until Rei's bedroom door frame and poked your head only to see Dabi, stoic face as usual as he rocked the baby in his arms, maintaining eye contact with the infant.

"One last time and you have to sleep. Deal?" He whispered while poking Rei's nose whose shrieked cutely before babbling and clapping her hands "Deal."

You furrowed your eyebrows at his worlds before widening your eyes at hearing and seeing Dabi swoon on his feet with Rei on his arms and doing the last thing you thought he could do.

Sing.

"Come stop your crying

It will be alright

Just take my hand

Hold it tight." He took one of his hands and showed nonchantly to his daughter whose cooed and grabbed at two of his fingers with her baby hands.

"I will protect you

From all around you

I will be here

Don't you cry~" he hushed her when she started to babble while still on his motions.

"For one so small

You seem so strong

My arms will hold you

Keep you safe and warm" he brought her close to hsi face and did the same thing he did earlier with the esquimos kisses as she reached for his face to try to pick his staples, you giggled behind your hand and luckily Dabi didn't noticed you.

"This bond between us

Can't be broken

I will be here

Don't you cry" Rei, after a lifetime, finally let out a yawn and cuddled on her father's chest for warmth as you envy her for a moment.

"'Cause you'll be in my heart

Yes, you'll be in my heart

You'll be here in my heart, always..." he whispered teh last word as he notices she finally closed her eyes and puffs of air as he sighed in relief. Slowly and carefully putting her back to the crib... not leaving until he carresed her cheek with two fingers before getting out with hands stuffed on his pockets.

The poor man almost set you on fire when he saw you when he closed the door.

"You're have the courage to set the mother of your kid on fire?!" You giggled after jumping in guard whem he started to use his quirk.

"Dont scare me to death, I thought you were asleep." He turned down the flames and looked at you, smilling like a dork at him as he squinted his eyes and glared at you. "How much did you hear?"

"All of it." You smirked.

You had to settled down your laughter just tonort wake up your sleeping daughter at seing the all big and bad Dabi blush at being caught singing a music to his baby.

Me looking at Enji and the sticks and chuckling Oo this gonna make em mad and hurt right? Literally its shit writing think every time Enji starts making any progress Horikoshi inserts another scene where hes doing something random that doesnt even make sense training wise and just gets the fandom riled up. It would now come to pass he kept beating down Shoto like a dog with the sword even though thats one item thats common in martial arts and used differently. All it proves is H knows nothing ab

Horikoshi knows nothing about martial arts. Like literally, why not reuse the sword scene where Endeavor says Toya came close but Shoto will be the one. The dialogue was right there perfect to send Toya into a spiral and not make him look like a idiot who assumes and runs. Nd btw theres a single panel of their huge gate it has a comm system like all mansions have in media which makes one assume the gate wont open unless someone identifies.

At this point I dont even feel any more sympathy for Shoto even because Horikoshis just on a melodrama train to up it more coz his daddy issues boiled back again when fans didnt take it seriously and still arent taking it seriously and again and again, like its like he wants everyone to always be talking how bad for victims all the time yet hes the one that made the abuser popular and went ott. Even Enji's VA had said he didnt take note of Enji but he became dear to him because of his change.

More on the martial arts scene, Enjis got huge equipment in the room, yet the only scene are meqnt to see is poor baby lying on floor and dad towering. Show some weight lifting, some sparring, some swimming. All this proves is this is why Shoto was so weak against Tetsu. Endeavor could never really make someone that tiny his sparring partner and so all Shotos training was useless beyond building heat and endurance. Hes not strong as his dad, no extraordinary reflexes, no hand to hand to skills

I kinda had a little martial arts training and tbh there's plenty of ways you can make it both realistic and abusive. Like, idk, the only way we saw Shouto actually training was when he was running on a treadmill in OVA, the rest time we see him vomiting and Enji standing there (sometimes with a sword). And at the same time Enji is supposed to be a good teacher, like, he has plenty of experience, he probably took interns in his agency and we see him very efficiently training the trio in Agency Arc. So why does the way he trained Shouto in childhood make no sense? You can show him forced to do kicking until his legs are bruised or stand on a plank for way too long... The story must be believable for readers to get invested in it... Like Annie Leonardt in Attack on Titan, she was overtrained too but her training made sense even if it was abusive. You can physically train a child and you can make it abusive in a way it is logical

Reusing the swird scene where Enji told that Touya was a failure would be fantastic and would make total sense and make total sense. Like, Touya didn't just go on a rampage after seeing his Dad is not a mourning mess 24/7 three years after his "death", but he saw that his Dad actually considers him a failure and says it out loud

It's so strange to consider that dabi was actually a daddy's boy to an unhealthy degree. That his reason wasn't the harsh training, he even threw a tantrum when enveador wouldn't train him, but the realization that he's being replaced because his body can't do it. But it makes me think. Was toya angry that he's being replaced making all the training he went through pointless or that everything he's been told and heard of surpassing his father or all might can never come true? Or both? Then there's the existential horror of being born for a reason and not being able fulfill it

I don’t think it’s because his training went to waste or that he couldn’t become what his father wanted because Touya never truly cared about becoming a hero or the strongest deep down, what he wanted deep down was his father’s attention and I think that’s the tragedy of this all.

It’s why he constantly trained himself to become stronger, not because he particularly believed in his father’s former dream for him but he knew it was the only way to get his father’s attention again and it was why he hates Shouto so much.

However that’s not to say being told he was born for a single purpose and then not being able to do what he was constantly told he should have been able to wouldn’t have an effect on him. A lot of his issues also stem from this fact too such as his identiy and insecurity issues. And especially his hatred towards Shouto.

Truly, Touya’s past is such a tragedy.
