0. this one goes without saying but The Student Prince is seriously one of the best fics in any fandom i've ever read to this day. I relisten to the podfic every single year and it SLAPS every time. If you haven't listened/read recently this is obviously my #1 rec hahahha

Okay onto some actual recs

1. Tired by spqr

King Arthur gets enchanted and keeps having dreams about his court sorcerer merlin :))))) He obviously doesn't say this to Merlin, but Merlin notices he's not been sleeping and Arthur comes clean about having 'nightmares.' When Merlin tries to figure out a counterspell, he accidentally casts it on himself and ohh nooo they're both having sexy dreams about each other but also have to act normal in real life ITS SO YUM. This fic was surprisingly soft, like yes they are having some full on dreams but also the bits that made me extra insane were just the little soft moments between non-dream merthur 🥺

This was a school holidays read and i remember reading this in the staff room of the elementary school i was working at trying so hard not to SCREAM. At one point i had to go on a spirited walk around the building just to get my energy out because it was JUICY.

An oldie but such a goodie. I love this one because the characterisation feels very natural. Plus i loooove arthur POV fics. Merthur are so sweet in this one and i love love love the dynamic of their respective friendship groups merging. It also features the fandom favourite m/f crack ship that is elena and gwaine which im always here for.

If you like: silly modern AU friend group nonsense, Arthur POV fics, snarky Morgana, and a fic writer who understands the sheer power merlin emrys' 🥺 face would have over not only Arthur but literally ANYONE who looks at him, this is the fic for you.

3. Second Chances by DragonDucks

This is a canondivergence/fix-it fic set immediately after Arthur dies in 5x13. In this version Arthur tells Merlin he loves him with his dying breath and Merlin's magic sort of implodes sending him back in time to 1x1. So it's like sad s5 Merlin getting a second chance to save Arthur in the body of tiny baby s1 merlin.

I'm gonna be honest i'm still reading this one but it has me kicking and screaming!!!! Most of the dialogue is repurposed from the show which makes it extra juicy to me and its just delicious i love it so much. The POV switches between S5 mourning merlin and S1 gay panic arthur and its soooooo good i'm loving it so far. Some of the side characterisation is a little weird but Merthur are PERFECT. It NAILS that yummy introverted Arthur and fond Merlin characterisation.

If you like: canon era fix it fics, time travel, Arthur pendragon falling in love with merlin bit by bit and actually having space and time to grow as a person, and merlin emrys being like no everyone shut up about my destiny i just wanna have a good time with my boyfriend, this is the fic for you.

4. All is Semblative by Whitefox

I just fucking love crossdressing fics okay 😇. This is cinderella meets Merthur. Uther is throwing a ball to find Arthur a bride and servants aren't allowed. Out of spite (and, lets be real, also jealousy) Merlin tries to disguise himself to sneak in and ends up accidentally turning himself into a princess. Arthur hits it off with a weird but beautiful mystery princess who turns out to be his manservant he's been in love with this whole time. Simples.

If you like: Prince Arthur knowing about merlin's magic and being cool with it, fairytale AUs, accidental genderbending (but still canonically mlm merthur), and arthur pendragon singlehandedly embodying demisexual panic this is the fic for you.

Lady Ragnell again because I looove the way they do modern day Arthur. and i've been going through their stuff. There was a click of the knob at the door. “He’s home, you thought, eyes coming away from the TV as you stood behind the stove.

Hearing the door perch open, you hear his heavy boots stepping into the house as the smell of pound cake infiltrates his nose.

“I'm guessing my princess is in the kitchen, right?”

“Hi, baby!!!” You greeted him gleefully before shuffling your feet towards him and hugging him. Firm arms wrapped around your thick waist, crushing you slightly.

“I missed you around here,” you told him, pouting as he gave you a light pat on your head.

“I missed ya too, sweetheart. Food smells divine,” he compliments

You blush a little as you give a little thanks, telling him you’d been cooking all day for him, waiting for him to get back

It was something you started to do for him about a year into actually living with each other, and now that you were engaged, it became a habit

“Well, I'm going to make me a plate-“ he started

While he showered, you set the tray tables and queued the TV to another episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta.

About a good hour later, you turned your head to the heavy footsteps that came down the stairs to meet you in the living room.

Pressing play on the TV, the two of you watched Real Housewives as y'all ate. Once Simon was finished, he sat back on the couch, rubbing his stomach in content

"You're gonna make me fat with all this good cookin', princess." he laughed

"Good!" you smiled at him

Seeing his eyes get heavy, you knew the food was sitting in, and he was getting the itis.

thinking about some sort of situation where stede ends up looking after ed after some kind of spectacular mental and physical breakdown (yknow like a years of abuse and trauma situation finally break the camel's back) and being soooooo fussy over him. at first ed is just kind of depressed and irritated (why is stede acting like he cares about ed??) and tries to do everything by himself and stede finds him having a sob on the sidewalk a block away from the house because ed dislocated his knee again trying to walk to the store. slowly ed starts to realize stede... means what he says... he doesn't like seeing ed in pain and he doesn't want to be some kind of patronizing savior but a real friend.

ed starts to realize he thinks stede being fussy is kind of cute actually, and being taken care of is nice... nobody's done that before. stede listens to him. he buys the right hair products. he buys the candy ed offhandedly remarks is his favorite. stede's not a very good cook, so when he starts to tear up after messing up chocolate chip cookies for the third time, ed hugs him and gives him a kiss on the forehead and whips up some yummy cookies. stede feels guilty then but eventually he'll learn that it's ok to not always be "useful" and ed wants to make sure he's happy too.

ed was pretty underweight before so stede could get fussy over making sure he was eating enough. at first it was difficult, but as his appetite returned and his mood started to improve it became really cute. ed started pouting whenever stede wouldn't eat with him, because ed noticed stede's own unhealthy habits around food. he likes eating meals with stede, giving each other bites off their forks and feeding each other popcorn during movies.

ed felt guilty and shitty at first. he didn't want stede or anyone to think of him as incapable and weak and a baby who needed to be looked after. what he did need was a safe space, and stede gave that to him. ed eventually learned what he gave to stede as well. stede was lot, alone, unmoored, and maybe latched onto ed tightly because ed gave him a purpose and a reason to keep living. they saved each other.

Instead of receiving a remark back, Zoro got something rudely shoved in his face instead. He repelled the cook's hands away with his own. "Well? Who is she, mosshead?"

Zoro squinted his eyes, nose scrunched as he darted from the blond to the bounty poster and photograph taken back in Water 7 before their departure. Closely focusing his sleepless eyes he finally saw what the cook was talking about. He shrugged, seeing no issue in the matter.

"Franky thought it was overexposure or something when copying the film at first but then she showed up in the other photos." Zoro's gaze lazily trailed off to the railing of the Sunny, where Usopp and Luffy were fishing(but not catching a single bite—a repeat of yesterday). There an apparition sat, a girl only Zoro has been gifted to see. She relaxed on the railing next to the boys, semi translucent, an aspect about her that has always screwed with Zoro's mind, being able to see through her and all, as foggy and unclear as it is.

"You know her." Sanji boldly claimed. Zoro shut his eyes and relaxed back onto his folded arms. "She's always around you."

"Cook," The name fell from his mouth like molasses. "You implying I got a ghost girl following me around? Do you know how stupid you sound right now? Well stupider than usual..."

Sanji tsked.

'It's fine, Zoro.' The swordsman flinched as within seconds Kuina appeared in his ear. 'I think I trust these people. I don't think they would call you crazy.'

Zoro cracked one eye open to peer at the girl. The forever thirteen year old girl. Sometimes she appeared normal. Other times she had a gnarly bloody gash on her forehead. Today, though, she was normal. As healthy looking as she was before she died.

"She's here with us, isn't she?"

"Why are you so interested in the ghost girl?" Zoro grunted.

'I have a name you, ass!' Zoro ignored her outburst.

"No. She's not here. Now leave."

Kuina stamped her foot. 'Roronoa Zoro! Stop lying!'

"She's taking a ghost shit. Lose it, perv cook." He ignored the offended gasp.

"Oh shut up, moss, I know you're lying. She's here and I'm right."

Zoro shifted, his bottom feeling numb. 'Tell Sanji I wish I could eat his cooking. It looks delicious!'

Zoro rolled his eyes. He sat up and hauled himself to his feet with a grunt. "I'm not saying shit for you."

"AHA!" Sanji exclaimed a finger pointed directly at him. Luffy, Usopp, and Robin turned from their spots on the deck to the shouting chef. "I knew it! The ghost girl is here!"

'Tell him, Zoro! Tell him his food looks yummy! Dad's cooking was always so bland and boring, always something with rice. The pork cutlet he made last week was soooooo good looking, you describing it's taste made my mouth water—and I don't even have spit or an appetite anymore!'

As Kuina rambled Zoro stamped off, agitated at the attention he was suddenly getting. He just wanted a good nap in the sun, not a damn probing session.

Kuina showed up several months after she died. He had been training in the heavy rain when he saw her looking out the window, just staring. From the room that contained her sword, there she stood. For days he thought he'd just gone insane with grief and delirium, barely sleeping enough to be considered a healthy amount for a ten year old. But then one day she lashed out. Angry at her father for talking about her like that, even after she was gone. She got so mad. So so mad. In her angry state her shrine shook, vase of flowers falling, photo cracking, candle and incense blowing out. There was no wind, no earthly tremors, only a pissed off girl—Zoro believed she was real from then on. He wouldn't tell Koushirou, he just thought there was a weird isolated earthquake and didn't ask any further question. Zoro began to talk with her like normal again. While they couldn't quite train together she did give him pointers here and there, telling him how to improve his skills when before she wouldn't share anything, let the younger boy find it out himself.

'It would be nice if I could talk to people again.'

Zoro wiped the sweat from his brows with his own shirt. "You talk to me." Way too much, Zoro neglected to add.

'Other people,' Kuina clarified. 'I know I was considered a quiet kid when I was alive but sometimes it's nice to talk. It fills the silence. Makes me...'

"Feel alive again?" Kuina nodded. Zoro put the weights away and faced his friend. "Do you seriously want me to tell everyone? I mean... It's not like they'll magically be able to see or hear you."

Kuina shrugged. 'So? At least they'll know I'm here.'

Good point.

"Fine," He sighed, easily swayed, picking the weights back up for another round. "Later then. After dinner. But I'm not making it a whole thing! I'll just say you're here and get on with it!"

Kuina wasn't listening anymore. She was excitedly rambling, loudly fantasizing about the possibility of socializing with someone other than the grumpy sourpuss that is Zoro.

Bc you’re so fucking embarrassed about your lack of experience. You feel like a fucking child while all of your friends are fucking around and doing the stuff you’re *supposed* to do in college. So @queer-prosekai told me to do my own top 10 list of the sets + my favorite card of each, so here's some rules i set for myself

1- i have to REALLY like the full set, not just really like a card but a little less to the others (cough Saki in no seek no find, for one example. Though other sets have also triggered this rule)

2- i also am judging by card only, not the story, however. I am not completely good at this because a lot of the cards that are already good get to be way better because of the event behind it.

3- only counting the trained cards, not untrained, it would be a very different list.

ANYWAYS. LIST STARTS NOW:

10: LIGHT UP THE FIRE

Oh my poor child are you okay??? Going past how much i like this event. Which would get me here writing for hours mind you. I also just really like the set. The dark colors and the fact that in all 3 cards you can barely see color- its black and then each has their own color showing up, An has red, Toya has blue and Rin has white. It just gives a fucking impact on you looking at them. Would not change a thing, really.

9: WISHING TO THE BLUE SKY FOR YOUR HAPPINESS

Anyone else remembers qhen this set just totally broke us? Oh my god. I do. Shizuku in a suit. An in this pretty ass dress. I just cjsjcjsmcjsncjdj. It was mainly those two that really hit for me, specially An. But when it hit it hit hard man

8: SMILE OF A DREAMER

It was the first lim set, so it was really simple compared to what we get now. But simple doesn't mean bad. I really love the colors and idk man i have a soft spot for it i cant defend everything my brain is a dvd logo bouncing around😭

7: HEAR ME HOPEFUL SHOW

Angel Minori is one of the prettiest sets ever, it just isnt higher because personally i like some others more, doesn't mean this shit isnt fucking gorgeous. The lightning, the setting. I love this mmj card with everyone in it bc this is such a beautiful place???? Just. Licks this set like an ice cream then cries bc i ate the pretty ass set.

6: Someday, from the depths of despair

Lowkey i did not expect this one to be this high before i made this list. But it is just gorgeous setting, gorgeous lightning. It just makes my brain go brrrr looking at it.

5- What lies behind lies ahead

The hermit set has people in a chokehold for years, and for good reason. The hairstyles are pretty, the au ideas one can get out of it are yummy. AND THE CARD THEMSELVES ARE SO CKSJFKDK. All of them having this golden thing around as if hermit was a story told to us by images. It just could be a poster. Its certainly pretty enough to.

4: Our escape for survival

Sorry for the amount of niigo here. It will happen again. Niigo never misses. Anyways i just love this set sm. The lightning, muffled colors and backgrounds just hit so fucking hard. The rain shared on the 3 cards from the set is so symbolical and so is the clock and the engines on Mafuyu's and Luka's card. It tells us a story before we even read the event and that is beautiful.

3: Close game offline

I had to skip this set and i am still sad about it. Man the the the cmsucksjcjx aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa viddygame and neon.

2- Unnamed Harmony

I like silly, your honor. I also like water. Saki's card has both /hj. No but really i just really like the outfits and colors and just everything in this set it would be a CRIME to not have this here as a Saki stan. Just look at it!!!!

1: Draw your bow in this white world

.. so, who's surprised? I can barely even find a favorite card in this set. From Kaitos . Kaito. (Does he need more?), Shizuku's gracefulness and beautifulness and Mafuyu just pretty and badass breaking the "screen"/mirror/window with an arrow. Its just soooooo ancjamvjsjchsjxncnsicjsv chomps.

HONORABLE MENTION:

Knock the future, which light up the fire took it off on a technicality (i like 3/3 cards on light up the fire and 2/3 on knock the future bc Honami is very meh compared to the others to me)
