catwin meet-cute except its a 'ghost boys but not detectives!' AU where charles and edwin ended up inexplicably working in (read: using the materials of) a craft store to try and bring some more artistic joy to their lives-after-death (sparked by a recently met Crystal telling them they need to be more rounded and no, edwin, spending your entire afterlife in a library wont solve the problem of you being completely ignorant towards every art and creative subject there is beyond literature).
edwin and his thick knitting needles and soft, cozy balls of yarn, bundled up near the window in a scarf and a thick wollen jumper, attracts the attention of a sleepy cat king, drowsy after a day of negotiating territories with a neighbouring cat ruler. surely the pretty boy with a soft bed of yarn on his lap wouldnt object to a feline friend taking a nap with him in the calm atmosphere hes created?

The Moon Spirit - two
Dorian x reader, Fenrys x reader (throne of glass)

warnings: blood, graphic descriptions of violence, objectification, gross old men, Dorian is a ball of love and niceness however, angst, fluff, possibly smut in later chapters
word count: 2.9k
a/n: oof the plans i have for this series omg!! i hope you like this pls comment and tell me what u think and also feel free to give any ideas/ theories i love getting that sm!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥
——————————————————————————-
Finding a place to get a drink was easier said than done.
You had ridden along the cold, barren road for hours – your only company being the birds singing above you, the horse moving below you and the small bundle of content wrapped in your arms who had fallen asleep in your arms in seconds, occasionally yawning widely. And through those hours you had met no one and seen no place to stop.
You eventually had to stop, exhaustion slowing you down. You moved off course and tied your horse to a tree next to a small stream, running a comforting hand through its mane as it drank slowly. You slowly stripped off as well, taking your time as you removed the blood-soaked layers from your skin. Once you were bare, shivering in the cool morning air, you stepped slowly into the stream – swearing enough to make a sailor blush.
However, you relented, running your hands over your skin, wiping away the guards’ blood with a heavy heart as the water turned pink. Your whole body ached, yet you were numb. Men were dead because of you, and - if he hadn’t already – Dorian would hear of your disappearance soon. And then the king would pick him a new bride, and you would be forgotten.
Just as intended.
Amaris was mewling behind you, hungry and cold, wondering why you had left. Or maybe that was just you, maybe you were projecting. You climbed out of the water, pulling your undergarments back on as you found a sunny patch to sit in, allowing the newly risen sun to cleanse away the remnants of the night, drying your skin slowly.
After half an hour of silent tears you picked yourself back up, pulling on your stiff clothes and climbing onto your horse as you set off again. You couldn’t just lie down and die, no matter how much you wanted to, you had to look after your last gift from Dorian, and you had look after yourself.
--
You ended up riding for hours more before you wandered into a small town. Dismounting, you led your horse through the town as you searched for a place to get food and maybe clean clothes, glaring down your nose at anyone who stared to long. Much like Dorian used to.
No. You tried to expel the thought of him from your head, not needing to be swept up in the thought of his forget-me-not eyes, nor did you need to remember that you may never get to look into them again.
What you needed was the tavern you could see at the end of the street.
You pushed through the street, ignoring the townspeople as you moved to the stables beside the tavern, giving your horse rest, food, and water. You hid Amaris in your coat as you moved into the tavern – back straight and head high as you walked.
The bar quietened down when you moved in, a small sprout woman pausing handing out drinks as she stared at you over a high skew nose. The bar smelt of sour whisky and piss, the surfaces barely visible beneath the dirt that covered every surface – the only source of light coming from tall candles that had been stuffed into wine bottles. The curtains over the windows were drawn tight, not allowing any other light in and the people in the bar all looked remarkably similar, tired. The woman behind the bar was petite, with a face alike a weasel and when she spoke you discovered her voice was just as shrill as you expected.
“And who do you think you are?” she moved in front of the bar, walking towards you as you levelled your gaze.
“I’m no one.” You replied, the answer vague enough that she hopefully wouldn’t try again.
“Then what do you want?” she was exasperated as she spoke, and you allowed yourself a moment of reprise as you glanced down at your clothes.
“A drink would be nice,” your voice was curt, tired. The small lady rolled her eyes, moving away as you approached the bar, allowing her to pour you a glass of cheap, hard liquor.
She slid it towards you, and you knocked it back quickly. “Do you also have fresh clothes and maybe some food for me and my cat?”
As she left with an eye roll, a man approached you, his hairline receding and breath fowl as he slung an arm around your shoulder, leaning far too close for your comfort as you trained your eyes forward.
“I can offer you a job,” he nodded his head and you looked over to see his eyes trained on the prostitutes in the corner, “I’ll even offer a free trial. To get you started.”
You felt panic rise like bile in your throat, your entire body tensing as you shoved this man’s arm of your shoulder. You calmed your face – unwilling to let any emotion show as you faced him.
“You couldn’t afford me,” you snarled, pushing down the heat growing in you as the curious eyes of the towns’ folk were once again turned on you.
“You bitch!” the man began shouting but was cut off by the shrill woman’s return. She unceremoniously dumped a pile of clothes in your lap, along with a small loaf and some fish, her gaze expectant.
You loosened the bracelet around your wrist, dropping it into her hand as she stared at the large jewels adorning it.
“That should cover it.” you muttered as you stood, keeping your gaze angry and forward as you shouldered past the burly man. You bundled the clothing and food in one hand, the other still holding Amaris tight to your chest as you left the dirty tavern.
You found your horse again, offloading the goods you had received into the worn satchels on its side – leading it out of the barn slowly, desperate to get out of this town.
--
Dorian was a mess.
He couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat, could barely speak anymore. It was enough to lose you, but to then realise that his own father had driven you away. His own father had made you feel so unsafe in your own home that you couldn’t even run to him, his father had made you feel so completely isolated that your only choice was to flee.
Chaol was trying to coax him back into civilised life, his brother mourning the loss of his friend, yet itching to find you. And level-headed as always, Chaol knew that wouldn’t happen with Dorian spending his days drinking or in bed – often both.
But Dorian didn’t know how to cope, he didn’t know how to plaster on a smile and pretend everything was okay. That was your specialty.
Almost a month had passed, and you certainly were nowhere to be seen. You weren’t coming home anytime soon and he was going to have to learn how to live without you eventually.
Every morning he woke up, a part of him hoped it was a bad dream, that you would be asleep in his arms, or giggling and pressing dizzying kisses into his jaw. He hoped one day he would just wake up and you would wrap your arms tight around his shoulders, tell him it was just a nightmare and stroke his hair until he fell back asleep.
But he knew that couldn’t happen, that life wasn’t kind enough to return his bride to him and so instead he chose to numb his thoughts. He ignored the flirty eyes of other woman, unable to look at them in their expensive dresses and jewels without his mind returning to you.
Everyday that passed without you hurt that much more, so when he sat on his throne as Chaol approached him with a beautiful but deadly woman, he decided since he couldn’t have his perfect woman, he must find her opposite. He couldn’t be who he was before – so he must become someone new.
--
You weren’t faring much better. The day you had left the bar, you had ridden all the way to the coast of Terrasan and had climbed onto the first boat to Doranelle. By the time you arrived in the city you had just about sold anything of value on your person and all you had left to sell was the poor horse you had taken away.
By the time it was just you and Amaris, you had acquired a small flat in the city – the walls were bare and there was only simple furniture in it, the mattress on the floor next to large windows, and worn cushions on a makeshift sofa next to a wooden table.
Every night Amaris crawled into bed next to you, licking away salty tears from your face as you pulled the thin, scratchy sheet closer over you – hoping to replicate even a shred of Dorian’s warmth, or the feeling of his arms wrapped secure around your waist. Most nights you didn’t sleep, the bags growing under your eyes as your heart slowly numbed. Amaris would bury himself in the warmth of your chest as your eyes blurred, watching the city move outside of your flat – the noise subdued and calming.
On the third day in the new city you set out to find work, desperate to find something that could numb the thoughts in your mind and make the days easier. Plus you were sick of grabbing the easiest food you could find. You found yourself walking to a library, deciding it would be the perfect mixture of solitude and work for you. And it helped that you had spent most your life reading, many nights curled under Dorians arms as you read your separate books – occasionally reciting a line to the other.
The old man at the front of the library was kind, his face wrinkled from easy smiles, and you could understand why his long, long life seemed so pleasing. The bookshelves were tall, dizzyingly tall, and filled with countless books that you wished you could search through for hours. There were also tall, stained windows lining the walls, letting in the beautiful morning light and showing how the dust danced around the room.
“So what brings you here?” he asked, moving around the desk he sat at and motioning for you to take a seat on the small, cushioned seats next to him.
You sat down gently, back straight but keeping your eyes trained on your neatly folded hands. “I need work, sir. I have very good qualifications and have been educated by the best.”
He laughed slightly at that, “That much is clear, my child. But I asked what brings you here? What is your story?”
You looked up to meet his eyes, unable to stop the pain that they revealed, and he took your hands gently in his warm ones, “The world has treated you poorly I see.”
You felt tears build in your eyes – this kindness so alien to your battered heart you couldn’t help yourself as you let out a soft sob. The man smiled kindly at you, squeezing your hands gently as he urged you to talk to him.
“I was f-forced to leave the man I loved,” you choked out, “his father tried to… hurt me.” Your explanation was an over-simplification, but you feared what may occur if you revealed the truth.
“Was he your mate?” the man asked kindly, and you shook your head.
“I am not Fae,” you explained, and he frowned, passing you his handkerchief as he stood.
“Are you sure about that?” he asked, retrieving a small, hand-held mirror, and handing it to you. You took it with a confused expression before looking in, gasping under your breath as you saw your ears had taken on a delicate point.
“I, I don’t- that’s not possible.” You shook your head, eyes wide as they met his.
“Where do you come from child?” he voice was gentle as he took in your shock.
“Adarlan.” You whispered and he smiled sympathetically.
“Then I believe a glamour has been removed recently.” You could feel yourself shaking, the weight of the knowledge hitting you. “Let me take a name dear, you can start work tomorrow, we’ve been needing some extra hands around here.”
“(y/n) (y/l/n)” your voice was small as you stood, shaking his hand lightly. “Thank you so much.”
“It’s no problem and remember when you work you can have a read through any book you like. Aisle sixteen contains many on the ancient spirits.” He looked down to your necklace pointedly and you bit your tongue so hard you tasted blood, desperate to not reveal any more than you already had.
“Thank you…” you trailed off and he smiled,
“Albert,” he finished for you. “And make sure to take care on your way home, this city is filled with powerful people, you would be smart to not mix with them.”
You nodded, pocketing the information in your mind, ready to add it to your list of rules.
--
Fenrys was tired. He had just gotten home from a month-long mission and all he wanted was to sleep, however he wasn’t quite ready to face Maeve yet and instead he decided to take a trip to his favourite library before she realised he was back.
He was walking in when he saw you, your eyes red but hopeful and he almost fell over at the sight of you. You were wearing common clothes but held yourself like royalty, head high and gaze ready to tear down a man who so much as looked at you wrong.
What he did next he wasn’t exactly proud of, but he needed an excuse, so he was willing to play his hand a bit. “Excuse me miss, do you happen to know where I could find the tilted goose?” your eyes widened when you saw him, fuelling his ego slightly.
He knew where the tilted goose was of course, it was one of his favourite bars, but you didn’t have to know that.
“Oh yeah, it’s just down this way. I’m walking that way I’ll show you,” your voice was like music to his ears, and he smiled, revelling in how you avoided his gaze, clearly intimidated by his stature.
“Thank you so much…?” he asked, and you smiled, softly, subdued.
“(y/n),” you stared walking in the correct direction, and he grinned.
“Beautiful name for a beautiful lady. Fenrys.” He placed a hand to his chest as you laughed lightly.
“Quite a flirt aren’t you?” you asked, eyes sparkling.
“Can’t help myself, I’m not sure I’ve ever met such a beautiful woman.” He looked down to you as he fell into step beside you, noticing that you were taking a much longer way than needed. “You new here?”
“How’d you tell?” your tone was self-deprecating, and he laughed.
“This way takes about five minutes longer.” He stated and you whirled around, pointing a finger accusingly.
“You know how to get there.” He felt his face heat up as he raised his hands sheepishly.
“Maybe…” he grinned, and you scoffed, rolling your eyes as you began to storm off.
“See you around princess!” he called after you, almost missing the way your shoulders stiffened momentarily before you called over your shoulder.
“You’d be so lucky!” you replied, pace quickening as he watched you climb a set of stars that led to some run-down apartments.
He laughed, the smiled on his face coming naturally and surprising him. Oh his life was about to get much better.
--
You shouldn’t have enjoyed the pretty man’s company. And you hated yourself for it.
But he was so kind and for five minutes he made you feel normal again, loved again. See you around princess! The words wouldn’t stop replaying in you head. You weren’t allowed to be a normal girl; you were a princess, and you were on the run, and you definitely had no time for handsome men who flirted with you.
You couldn’t betray Dorian like that, he was probably waiting for you to come home. And you planned to. You would build your strength and you would learn to fight, and you would tear the king to shreds.
But for now, you had to settle for getting through each day, and that meant you had no time for handsome distractions. As you steeled your nerves you felt the loneliness settle on your shoulders, wrapping around you like a shadow, and you fought to reach deep inside yourself, finding the sliver of magic that was curled up – dormant – inside of you.
You found it and fought to awaken it, only receiving a shard of the true power. You stood in front of the dirty mirror in your bathroom, taking in your newly pointed ears and watching as your necklace glowed gently, your eyes turning silver as you released a small amount magic, watching as the bright light shattered the mirror in front of you.
Your eyes widened at the loud noise and with a flinch the magic was gone, the only proof it was even there was the shattered mirror in front of you.
You stared back at the cracked reflection and squared your shoulders. You were going to train, you were going to fight, and you were going to win. Even if it broke you.

Duchy Conversation 11
[The following transcript details the conversation is between one of the Crown ARG Discord members and Duke on Twitter]
Donti: “Hello! I'm back again, hehe”
Duke: “Hello there Donti, how have you been little lamb?”
Donti: “Hi Duke :D I’ve been doing great! My friend gave me a wonderful gift yesterday!
How have you been?”
Duke: “Oh? That is splendid to hear! What gift did you receive? I myself have been doing well, thank you for asking. Things have been.. Quieter recently”
Donti: “She gave me a little compass that always points to her quarters to keep me from getting lost. ^^ It was becoming a problem, you see.
..Oh,,, is it because you and Duchess have been spending less time with each other?”
Duke: “That is truly heartwarming to hear such a thoughtful gift was given to one so deserving like yourself. I hope you cherish it, those gifts will never fade from memory.
I would not say my sister and I are necessarily spreading apart but.. The moment she stops this silly plan of hers we will both be off for the better.”
Donti: “I heard she had some projects, and I have a few guesses to what they are... But she never told me what they were ^^'
Is it really as bad as you make it out to be?”
Duke: “She wants to get in contact with our "hosts", a word that I find revolting. My sister stumbled upon these missing person posters of the people we used to be and once an idea is inside her head it is nigh impossible to get it out. I do not understand why she needs to do this, why she is so intent on causing problems for us both. I adore her, but she is being foolish.”
Donti: “Is it for simple curiosities sake? Or does she want to.. Cohabit the body like some of the others do?”
Duke: “No matter what curiosity killed the cat. We are who we are now, let sleeping lions rest. Her plan is idiotic no matter what the outcome she hopes to achieve.”
Donti: “That makes sense.. You said you've tried to convince her otherwise?”
Duke: “Indeed. My efforts so far have been.. Lackluster. I do not suppose you would mind dissuading her the next time you two speak?”
Donti: “I will try! But I doubt I will be successful.. You said she is very headstrong, and if she won't listen to you, she probably won't listen to me either..”
Duke: “You underestimate yourself. You are something she has an interest in, your word holds weight with her whereas others do not. You dissuading her could be the last step in ending this.”
Donti: “If you say so, I will do as you ask ^^ We are friends, after all.
Onto a different note... Have you met the new... Person? Their name is Chorus, if I remember correctly”
Duke: “Indeed we are! Tell me, besides the gift what else has been going on in your life, little lamb?
Chorus.... Hm. It sounds.. Familiar”
Donti: “Yes, that’s another thing that’s happened. Jay was one of the ah, non-Dreamons staying over. 14 foot tall, he’s quite hard to miss. He was coronated recently, and the Dreamon named themself Chorus”
Duke: “Oh! Oh what a simpleton I am! I have indeed met Chorus, although... Ah, I won't divulge in case they do not wish for it to be known. They are a fascinating person.
Oh good, you are aware Jay is Chorus. I was worried I was going to have to keep secrets!
May I let you in on one anyway?”
Donti: “Of course.”
Duke: “I prefer Jay.”
Donti: “Ah, I think people in the Mineshaft feel the same..”
Duke: “I haven't even met Chorus yet, in true honesty. Not face to face at least. Their existence feels like a mockery but I must nod my head at them nonetheless. The strong live while the weak die, tis life.”
Donti: “When we met them, they were quite blunt... But they said they would let Jay out eventually, and I guess we felt better about that..
How have you been, spending your time, with Duchess so involved with her project?”
Duke: “Will they truly? Or was that just a lie to settle the masses? After all, it is not hard to fool those stuck with love in their hearts.”
Donti: “They said they would eventually... Words must mean something...
Right?”
Duke: “I have been doing well, thank you. I have been introduced to a new game called ah, Grand Theft Auto? It is rather confusing but I do enjoy the pretty lights at night.”
Duke: “Words mean nothing, my dear. They are worth less than air.”
Donti: “... I see,,,”
Duke: “Words only hold meaning to the foolish or the dumb, little lamb. It is best you learn that.”
Donti: “And what about promises?”
Duke: “Ah, promises. What a tricky thing. Tell me, do you think an eel would break a promise? a platypus as well?”
Donti: “... I guess they would, if it would serve their purposes... But they are just simple animals who don't know the weight behind them...
Surely thinking beings would put some weight behind them?”
Duke: “Neither the platypus nor the eel would keep a promise. They are indeed just simple animals as you put it, they do not understand the full extent.
Tell me, Donti, what is humanity? Where did we originate from?”
Donti: “Ah... I guess most of us originate from a single cell. A dot of consciousness
The ability of 'humanity' is because of a large brain, and an ability of higher thought,,,”
Duke: “And these exact same animals originate from this very same dot.
Promises are worth nothing to the platypus and the eel, why would it matter to a human? What makes humanity so high and mighty for such a worthless thing to matter?
Promises may be exchanged between loved ones, that I do understand. It is an oath taken between two people, it is meant to be solemn. I promised my sister I would do anything to protect her and I will stand by that to my dying days. Between friends and strangers however?
Between friends and strangers, little lamb, do not be afraid to crush fools who make a promise to you.
Whales have large brains, are we less than a whale?”
Donti: “But is it so foolish, my friend, to trust? For I to trust you? We are not family, we are not each other's loved ones. Is it truly strong to disregard words and promises, when they bring you joy and companionship?”
Duke: “It is not foolish to trust me, I am your friend. I care about your wellbeing. It is foolish to trust other people though - they are not like you and I, they are uncivilized and cruel.
It would be a wonderful world to walk around with your heart on your sleeve and trust in the air, but that is not this world. That is not the animal world.
Do not fret though! You have my sister and I, little lamb, and that is all you need. No one else has your best interest at heart like us, for why would I take time telling you these things otherwise? I do not wish to see you get hurt.”
Donti: “Of course, where would I be without you two? You two are some of my closest friends. I shudder at a life where we had never met.
Life would be so dull”
Duke: “Indeed. I am pleased you have my sister and I to depend upon, as we depend upon you. You are so kind and so trusting, so friendly without a thought... I can only think in horror what may have happened if we had not stumbled upon you. The world is cruel, little lamb, and the fact you've only barely come out unscathed is nothing short than a miracle.
Without us.... Who knows what could occur? I am happy as always to speak with you Donti, do know this. My ears are always open if you need someone to talk to.”
Donti: “The world is definitely cruel, but unscathed isn't the correct word, unfortunately. Life comes with ups and downs, and I have had my share of both ^^”
Duke: “I am terribly sorry to hear that.”
Donti: “Of course, it all got better, didn't it? You're here :D”
Duke: “No more, I say. Life will be cruel to you no more, not while I'm around.
Exactly, little lamb. I am here and you are here, isn't that wonderful? Living despite all the odds. The strong truly do rule over the weak.”
Donti: “I guess you do rule over the weak, ha! I was wondering.. What makes one weak?”
Duke: “Still so naive! You are endlessly endearing, little lamb. You will see with your own eyes what makes someone weak with time.”
Donti: “So cryptic, Duke hehe
Oh Duke! Have you heard about King? I heard they went missing...”
Duke: “If you fear you are weak then do not. You are young, Donti. A sapling still waiting to grow. My sister and I will protect you until you can do so yourself.
You will learn to be strong, little one, with time. Just do as we say until then, the thought of you getting hurt makes me positively miserable.
Indeed I have. How surprising the most volatile out of all of us goes missing. How strange indeed.”
Donti: “Oh, of course! I take all of your advice to heart!”
Duke: “Honestly.. This is a big fuss about nothing. Why do we simply not look under the couch cushions? I'm sure King is there, acting like an untrained dog wishing for attention.”
Donti: “Oh dear... I think the rest of the Court have been worried enough to do that..
I hope they come back eventually though, theyre worrying a friend of a friend ^^'”
Duke: “King is fine, Donti. I assure you. The Court is simply made up of worriers projecting their anxiety onto you and the rest of the members.
I am not terribly upset at their disappearance but if it is causing you grievance I will attempt to locate them.”
Donti: “Oh, of course! that makes perfect sense ^^ I'll tell the others not to worry
And that would ease my mind, thank you Duke!”
Duke: “I will look then, little lamb, just for you. It will hopefully not take too much time out of my day.”
Donti: “If you were just to keep an eye out? I know you don't like them very much, and you have your own things to do!”
Duke: “It is alright, for you I will search. It is no great loss of my time if it means I may ease yours.”
Donti: “Well.. Duke, do you have any places you frequent? My friend showed me a lovely clearing the other day!”
Duke: “Nature truly is wonderful, isn't it. I enjoy going for walks in the woods, hearing the birds trill and flutter about just out of view is calming. I do also enjoy going to this one shop, Starbucks I believe it is called? They have wonderous teas that are cold, although I find the cup they deliver in perplexing.”
Donti: “Oh? How so?”
Duke: “It goes beyond common sense. The cup is not made of glass, nor wood, nor clay. It is made of this very... Unique material. Then there is the paint on it that isn't paint... How does it stay on the glass then? It does not chip but could that be due to a wonderous sealant? And why do they give these cups out so freely?”
Donti: “Oh! Plastic! Starbucks has them printed. It's a very economically useful modern material, but personally I cannot stand it. They're cheap for Starbucks to make, but they're disposable and do terrible things to the environment, as they don't decompose for several hundred years... Animals who eat them get sick, and often die..”
Duke: “That is disturbing. Why not simply use glass like reasonable people do?”
Donti: “Plastic is simply cheaper to use.”
Duke: “It is just a cup. How much could it cost, eight dollars?”
Donti: “Pennies. :(
They're really really cheap.”
Duke: “Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.”
Donti: “Yea... I think Starbucks lets you use reusable cups, which limits waste ^^”
Duke: “Fascinating. I will keep that in mind for tomorrow.”
Donti: “Do you enjoy going to other places? Or perhaps a favorite animal?”
Duke: “Oh, the animals I favour above all is the Korat and Chinese Li Hua cats. They are truly specimens of perfection, and admittedly quite wonderful to look at as well.”
Donti: “So you like cats! Those two breeds are lovely!”
Duke: “Cats are my sisters and I favourite animal, yes. Those two breeds are indeed lovely which is why I think them best of all.”
Donti: “Hehe, two of my friends look like cats, I think your sister met one of them! The one who gave me the compass? She looks like a cat with lovely little glow marks! And wings!”
Duke: “That sounds fascinating! Is she able to fly?”
Donti: “I believe so, although I've only ever seen her use them to propell herself forwards ^^' The tunnels aren't exactly suitable conditions for flight”
Duke: “I see.. That is interesting. You have quite a colourful array of friends.”
Donti: “I dont think anyone down here is fully human, ha!
I assume you are, your pictures do seem to suggest that!”
Duke: “Indeed I am. Fully human with only ten fingers and toes and all that. Not terribly interesting but something I wear with pride nonetheless.”
Donti: “Ha, and you’re fantastic the way you are!
Unfortunately, I'm afraid I must sign off for the night, sweet dreams, Duke!”
Duke: “I wish you a wonderous rest and a quiet slumber. Sweet dreams, little lamb.”

They were not very affectionate towards one another and often got into spats. Though it appeared that Ellis Watts II was handing his son the keys out of respect, in reality he left out of spite. They didn’;t have any other contact with one another for the rest of his life.
Lucretia Watts (Mother): Lucretia was old, much older than Ellis’s father, when they mated and died while Ellis was 30. Ellis was close to his mother, and she instilled many of the mantras he repeats and follows to this day.
Sibling Names:
None
Children Names:
None.
Romantic Connections:
Mary-Alice Lewis (Ex Girlfriend): He met Mary Alice when he was away for school. Too many things were trying to work against them, and when he asked her to come back home with him, she said no. He still thinks about her often and has thought about trying to see if she was still with her clan.
Miriam Vance (Ex Girlfriend): They dated in the 1970s for a few years. He was just getting in the meat of his political career and she wanted lots of children immediately. They parted ways and last he knew she moved to San Francisco.
Platonic Connections:
Sarah Harris (Best Friend): Sarah has been one of his longest friends and is often the person to call him out. He is the Godfather to both of their daughters and spends most holidays with their family.
Zack Harris (Best Friend): Zack is his most trusted confidante. They throw ideas around, playing with possibilities, before eventually bringing it to Sarah who helps make the idea possible.
Shannon Harris (Goddaughter): He has known Shannon since she was born. She’s a mini-Sarah through and through and he has recently begun training her to begin as a liaison to the pack. With the new influx of supernaturals that may come due to the University, Ellis wants to be ready.
Zelda Harris (Goddaughter): He has known Zelda since she was born. She was always a very independent child, taking the harder and often more daring road. Despite Sarah’s surprise, he saw Zelda forming her own path long before she finally told her mother she wasn’t going to school. He has her placed in the water department.
Odell Rella (Friend): Ellis brought Odell on as 3rd about 9 years ago, after he returned home from going to college and travelling the world. It’s a perspective that Jackals don’t often have and he values his input because of that. He’s still an idiot, but he does a good job as 3rd.
Seth Allen (Curious about): Seth is somewhat of an enigma to Ellis, Zack and Sarah. He is wild and difficult, but the strangest thing is that he doesn’t really act like a jackal, or at least not like anyone in Chicago. He loves being shifted and running in his shifted form. Seth also seems somewhat uncomfortable with the family dynamics that most of the clan has. Ellis has been mulling over their new addition a lot, and has even gone on a run with him in shifted form to see if it’d shed any more light.
Vee Armstrong (Employee): Vee has shown her work ethic since she was in college and Ellis took notice. When Sirius proposed getting a Human Shifter elected with the jackal’s help; Ellis knew she’d be the best person to get them there. So far she’s impressed him, and the early polls indicate Fischer will win.
Leon King (Friendly): Ellis knows of Leon through his work with the kids. He increased general activity and helped spearhead a childhood activity project that got kids moving.
Clara Fields (Fellow Council Member): Ellis doesn’t often talk to Clara, actually avoids it when he can, but they’ve known each other for a long time and he respects her work ethic.
Isaac Baker (Friend): Ellis has liked having Isaac on the council. He’s smart and isn’t weighed down by a century of baggage like the rest of them. They occasionally go to sports games together.
Chris Bialar (Work Associate): Chris came to him a year or two ago to suggest creating a University for the supernatural community. Clan Cat was experienced with the education side of things, while Clan Jackal could encourage the permit and general bureaucratic business along. Before their business venture Ellis thought he was an arrogant asshole, now he’s an arrogant asshole with a plan to get more Jackals to the city.
Nick Hamelin (Fellow Council Member): He and Nick are on good terms. The rats don’t invade any areas they shouldn’t and in return they don’t try to keep too much from them.
Percy McCormick III (Fellow Council Member): Ellis is fairly neutral about Percy. They’ve never really hit off, unlike him and the Fields, and it’s not something he’s interested in trying to start.
Greer Finley (Work Associate): Greer is the 2nd of the Cats and is spearheading much of the project on the Cat’s end. He tends to work with her on projects to avoid putting her and Sarah in the same room.
Amaria Crais (Work Associate): Amaria is the main liaison between the Cats and Jackals for the University project. He finds her much easier to deal with than Greer.
Asa Fields (Old Friend): He hasn’t spoken to Asa since he has been back, but the two would occasionally meet at parties around the city. He’s interested in seeing how he’s changed over the years.
Sirius Cobic (Business Partner): Sirius proposed the idea of getting a supernatural to the top of the Chicago government about a year and a half ago. They need someone with real power to rule and a human shifter would be the only one who could make it. Together they developed a plan, and are currently seeing it play out.
Hostile Connections:
Russell Jordan (Concerned about): Russell quickly shut down many lines of connections that had existed between the hyenas and jackals since they’d arrived. He claimed it was to unify the clan under new leadership, but they haven’t opened back up.
Alan Thomas (Annoyance): He’s never seen anyone argue so much over building codes that have been public knowledge for years. Thomas takes any slow down as a personal offence and doesn’t care to restrain himself from throwing a fit.

→ History
Ellis was born in Chicago to Ellis Watts II and Lucretia Watts. Unusually for jackals the pair married at quite old ages and Ellis III was the only child they ever had. Lucretia was showing signs of slowing down when Ellis was a young boy, so it was only a matter of time when she passed away. He was away for many of her last years, and when he returned from school she refused to shift back into her human form. Ellis spent much of his time shifted the last year of her life so they could communicate easier. When she finally died, he didn’t change for years. It was at this time of no shifting that Ellis discovered his love for fast machines; motorcycles, cars, boats, anything he could feel the exhilaration of. He also garnered some criticism at this time, specifically from his father who thought he was being frivolous and wasteful. This was the beginning of what would become decades of arguments between the two men.
They fought about him not using his degree or getting a useful job, about Elli II being inflexible and running members out of Chicago. This was all hidden from the packs eyes as their leader having the least happy family of all might cause an uproar in such a family oriented clan. The only members who were aware were Sarah and Zack Harris, his father’s seconds. Finally in 1941, after a particularly brutal argument Ellis II quit, told his son that he could burn the pack down if he wanted, but that he wouldn’t be around to watch. He packed up his things and left the clan to Ellis to rule, with the obvious assumption he’d fail. Ellis, like he did in many instances rose to the occasion. He hunkered down and learned everything: each pack family, who needed assistance, what needed to be done, where there were spots they could expand. It was Ellis who made the switch into the Government and slowly began securing good jobs with good pay for his people. He finally joined office himself once he was legally able to and has been City Manager on and off for many years.
After he switched into being a leader, he’s had a difficult time turning it off. It’s ruined any relationship he’s had, caused tension headaches and teeth grinding, and he rarely if ever takes a day off. He still maintains many of his hobbies like boat racing, wine making, and now piloting; but work and his clan is always in the back of his mind.
→ The Present
Ellis would like to find a wife and start a family. Sarah says it was his dysfunctional family life that’s scared him off. Which is partially true, but he’s worried that he’ll start slipping if he relaxes too much. He’s actually considered asking Sarah or Shannon to set him up, but he’s not sure that he is that desperate yet.
Ellis is also creating a University with the Cats. He, Sarah, and Zack have been in talks for about a year or so developing the idea, but they are going to break ground soon. He’s excited to have a new school for his Jackals to go to, as well as a new draw for the supernatural community. Another venture he’s taking on, though in a much more removed position, is the election of human shifter, Robert J. Fischer. It was an idea concocted with the human shifters to get a member of the supernatural community in the highest seat of power. Though the council previously ruled no species could be in the mayor’s office due to an unequal balance of power, Ellis knows they don’t understand the nature of modern politics.

EoA ships fluff headcanons part 2
Do they have bubble baths?
Eleteo: Oh yes, Mateo is a wizard after all so it’s not like they even have to plan, he just casts a spell and there in a tub of suds. Elena particularly loves it when they have rose petals to add to the mood and candles. They could spend hours in the tub together sometimes with Elena getting mischievous and starting a water fight. Gababel: Yes, originally as part of Isabel’s aromatherapy project to see if different combos of smells and soaps help relax. Ironically, she got so stressed by it, and that Gabe insisted on taking over one night to give her a relaxing bubble bath, free of science but filled with massages until she was blissed out. Estebanaomi: Not really since they have a shower on the ship and a rather cranky one at that, you never know if it’s going to be freezing or not. However on those islands, sometimes they do come across natural steam baths or jacuzzis and they take full advantage of those to enjoy each other’s company and get steamed in two different levels. Estoma: Very rarely. Like they’re busy most of the time, so they only do it on a vacation when they can have all the time in the world to enjoy it. They go very slowly, taking time to wash every single part of the others body and if the hand slips, oh well then...
Random heartwarming thing
Eleteo: Elena forgoing her usual plans of excitement and olaball and fencing to spend a whole day indoors studying spells on the spirit world with Mateo. Mateo appreciated it because not only did he need to catch up if he wanted to reach master wizard level in time for fighting the malvagos, but also seeing how hard Elena tried to sit still and pay attention even when reading uninteresting texts like that huge Spirit World book Zuzo had. Elena loves whenever Mateo goes out of his comfort zone but one particular moment was when some person from a rival kingdom, let’s go with King Hector insinuated at a royal meeting that Elena was unfit to rule due to her mood swings powers, her traitorous cousins and young age. Before anyone could even blink, Mateo got up and delivered a impassioned speech on Elena’s behalf highlighting each and every accomplishment of hers and her strength that Hector no where near possesses as well as her compassion and true love to her subjects. Elena was amazed by how riled Mateo was, but also just in awe that he thought so highly of her. Yes, she knew he loved her but that speech was just wow.
Gababel: Gabe made Isabel cry when they were brainstorming their vows. Yes, they wanted it to be a secret but first they started joking around with mock ones like “The moment you drooled on me when you fell asleep on the carriage from Paraíso, I just knew you were the one.” Stuff like that. But then Gabe pulls out this stunner saying he knows he can make her cry which Isabel doubts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Zzef69S8sM Isabel was touched by how much Gabe had grown and his love for her that this guy who claimed actions spoke louder than words, could speak so eloquently when it came to describing his love for her. An act that truly touched Gabe was one time after a brutal search mission for the past month, Gabe returned back to the barracks, exhausted but excited for the next morning since he had a date with Isabel. He slept through the day. He was horrified when he woke that he missed it but to his utter shock, Isabel had cleaned his office that he had being meaning to do, as well laundered his smelly clothes and had a small note on how he needed his rest and she’ll see him tomorrow. He was touched, she didn’t have to do it. They were only dating but she cared and it warmed his heart. Estenaomi: Naomi broke her ankle one time working on the dock and this was early on in their friendship so up till now Naomi has known Esteban through his annoying, impulsive nature and his occasional sweet side. Well right then, she got a front seat view to how caring Esteban can be. He personally delivered soup to her room everyday and would stay and chat. At first, Naomi thought he was replaced by some imposter but once he started engaging in some banter about how much she complained about not being able to move. She knew it was him, and she appreciated how he took the time out of his so called busy schedule to keep her company. Naomi did a surprising, almost unexpected gift for Esteban when she vouched for his responsible nature and stood up to tell his abuelos that he was more than ready to take on more work within the palace and the Grand Council. His abuelos had been a bit blinded by how they usually see him going off on adventures but Naomi’s words woke them up to that Esteban was growing up and he was maturing. Esteban was super grateful for that and also teased her for inadvertently admitting that he was more than a “mediocre looking narcissist” as @missnobodynobodius put it.
Estoma: They have a lot of talks together by the fireplace when they become a couple and those convos can get pretty deep and sweet as well. In a mixture of nostalgic musings and a bit of insecurity over his treasonous actions, Esteban admitted that he used to be jealous of King Juan back when he was known as Prince Juan. Juan was like the perfect prince, never acting out of emotion, always responsible, a family man that would never hurt his family. He could see why everyone wanted to talk to him and be with his presence, he was like a Fairy . Doña told him she didn’t care much for fairytales much less princes. She preferred the sulky beast who only wanted love but was cursed. He was real, he knew about suffering and he was able to grow and learn lessons and mature. Fairytale princes didn’t do that. It was a thin metaphor and he knew exactly what she was implying and he melted. Bit by bit as Esteban talked about his feelings pre Shuriki and his betrayal and all the lies and deception, Doña admits some of her own past and her flaws like how she didn’t go to college. She dropped out of school after her quinceñera. Which admittedly meant she didn’t go to high school either but that sounded worse. But the best part was for once there was no teasing comments or “That explains so much.” He just listens and accepts it and doesn’t hold it against her and she loves him for that. Who drives the other crazy in bed?
Eleteo: Elena does. It’s the Flores in her but she is just very flirty and teasing and knows just how to drive Mateo wild which she enjoys because she so likes seeing Mateo’s eyes widen in anticipation and eagerness with his focus totally on her. But sometimes Mateo does too. Unintentionally. The boy can be so oblivious when he thinks is being suspenseful but Elena is just ready to explode. Gababel: Gabe for the most part. He has more experience if you pardon the euphemism plus he has all those extra moves from fencing and training and stuff. He’s a bit like Elena that he enjoys Isabel’s excitement and he also is foremost intent on pleasing her. But Isabel can give as good as he got sometimes. Don’t count out the spicy Flores gene. Estenaomi: Esteban does. He has had way too much time formulating ideas back when he was friends with Victor tbh. And though Naomi can’t believe how eager she can get when she knows Esteban can drag it out with the best of em, she also must admit, he knows what he is doing. Then again, Naomi is easily able to turn the tables sometimes when Esteban is an impatient mood, and she drives him insane. Estoma: Both do honestly, it’s like part of their cat and mouse game to show off their erotic prowess, and have the other one begging their name like a mantra.
Modern day living?
Eleteo: I feel like Eleteo would live in Miami, Florida in a quaint but expansive beach house. Not only because of the large Latin community but it has all the beaches there and it is so colorful and lively that I imagine they would have tons of fun adventures there. Gababel: I see Gabe as a total all American guy so maybe some sort of midwestern town would fit him, but I ultimately imagine them settling in a small town in California. Somewhere in the mountains where there is a tight community and they know their neighbors but close enough for Isabel to go to her job in Silicon Valley. Estenaomi: Hmm I think they’d still be travelers like backpacking through Europe, but their home base would be a nice apartment in Miami near Eleteo or I’m thinking New Orleans, Louisiana. It’s a port town after all with diverse restaurants, peoples and places plus not to mention fun holidays like Mardi Gras. Estoma: I think they would have one of those huge penthouses in New York. Or what is that rich people place? The Hamptons. Yeah, it has it all. All the high end fashions, theatre, and business stuff. And they would totally be the type to splurge and have an additional summer apartment in Europe or something.
Aus
Gababel: So somewhat of a switch but Gabe is the royal prince of Avalor while Isabel is in the army. But not as you think. She isn’t a guard but she’s still a scientists tasked with making new more effective weapons, transportations and the like. Anyway, Gabe a la princess Jasmine wants more out of life then being a prince and occasionally playing sports like olaball like his father wants. He wants to go out and defend the people. So he sneaks out to go to the barracks but he is stopped by Isabel when he passes her laboratory which he is immediately intrigued (by the lab and her). Isabel who is sort of a working hermit and she’d be lying if she didn’t get flustered at seeing *the Prince of Avalor!!!* in her lab. Well they get to talking and Gabe is amazed that he has never heard of all her contributions and what she has done and vows to help her get the recognition she wants in a non-military experiment and Isabel promises to help in turn become a royal guard. Estenaomi: So I’ve seen young!Esteban and I’ve seen waiting for Naomi to become the appropriate age, but what if...picture a world where Esteban had also been in that amulet with Elena and when they get out Esteban is the young one and Naomi is the one in her 40s. By that time older Naomi hasn’t become any something special, but she is content with it. Sort of. Not really, but she thinks it too late for her now. Anyhow she gets on the Grand Council for her life experience around the realm and there relationship is a lot like in the show. Only Naomi is the more realistic one who knows how the world works while Esteban inspires her to see she still has a chance to get her dreams. Estoma: So in this one, Esteban made the deal with Shuriki but at last minute did the right thing and told King Raul and nothing happened. So the family was a bit hurt and confused by Esteban’s feelings of loneliness and they promised they would work on it, they still felt Esteban needed to be punished. So he is sent to a small village ranch for the summer to learn that work takes responsibility as well as a chance to see how people work together and depend on one another like a family is supposed to. And as you can guess, it was doña’a family ranch. And it’s a bit like P&P, she thinks he’s spoiled brat and an interference that she has to teach him and while Esteban thinks though the whole summer is going to suck, he finds her attitude an insult to his pride and wants to prove he can totally “slum it.” But then there competitive antagonism turns flirty banter yet there is still obstacles. Namely her fiancé and everyone’s belief, including Esteban’s, that no way he would go for a poor villager, he’s so much better than that. Eleteo: So Mateo is the adopted son of Prince Gabe this making him Prince Mateo, however he still feels like an outsider because he is adopted as well as knowing he is capable of magic skills that royals are not suppose to possess much less study and learn. But like his brother, he decides to sneak out and find a master, that master being none other than Elena, the royal wizard, wielder of the magic of Takína. Obviously their magical studies bonds them in more ways than one. They confide in one another of Mateo’s outsider feelings and Elena who is still coming to terms with her grief of her parent’s untimely death in battle with her mortal sorceress enemy, Shuriki. So together they team up to help Elena avenge her family and for Mateo to find out the truth of his biological family.
What pet would they have?
Eleteo: I don’t know if they would since their already sooo busy with their lives. I guess Flo counts technically. But when they have kids, their children really really want a dog so they get a energetic, friendly one. The breed...probably the breed from the dog statues in Royal Rivalry. I don’t know the name though. But anyways it’s clear that the dog is like their kid’s child except when it chews up one of Mateo’s spellbooks or pees. Then it’s up to the parents to clean up of course. Mateo also gets his own personal horse to join with Canella in the royal stable. Gababel: I feel like they would keep those hamsters that Isabel had in Science Unfair. Not only for safe, animal friendly experiments but they’re just so darn cute, and easy to carry around. And it’s surprisingly engaging to watch them run around in their little track. They both have horses, of course. Can’t leave Fuego out, and even though Isabel isn’t much of a riding fan, she has one too. Estenaomi: They get a parrot. There can’t be a ship without a parrot, at least according to Esteban’s adventure fantasies. They got a blue macaw parrot and he is the most ornery, cursing bird ever. No kind word to anyone but Esteban and Naomi like him anyway. They also briefly had a monkey. Imagine the one from the Pirates of Caribbean movie but he was disruptive and had this habit of throwing plants at Esteban as if he knew his pet peeve of them. Estoma: I don’t think either would particularly own a pet. They do have horses since Esteban has Valiente and Doña would probably get one her own. The only other pet I could imagine is some stray cat that goes in and out of the palace and particularly likes to nest on Esteban’s coats if he leaves it lying on his bed. Bonus: Alonso totally uses animals as props for his dates https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8yQDIvGz3cWhich led to King Juan implementing the rule of no borrowing animals from the royal menagerie to impress girls.
Embarrassing nickname? eleteo: Hmm I’m not sure actually but probably something like pan dulce monster for Elena because you know how she gets with her pan dulce, she’ll devour everything in sight. And Mateo especially likes to reference that picture of two year old her covered in pan dulce from your fic😉 But the thing is, it’s hard to embarrass Elena so she just takes it in stride. Elena calls Mateo some manner of nauseatingly sweet name like “Honey boo boo kins” for fun when they’re in front of Naomi and Gabe or even Olivia because Mateo’s blush is just adorable. The other embarrassing one that Mateo got in his childhood was Klutzteo because he was so uncoordinated in school. It still makes his face burn to think about it but Elena reminds him of his absolute grace when it comes to dancing. Gababel: We already know Gabe’s embarrassing nickname, “Baker boy.” Actually The Curse of El Guapo wasn’t the first time it came up. He heard it a lot in grade school when things were a bit more class conscious and poor people were treated with disdain, also some kids couldn’t believe the Great Roberto Nuñez stopped his olaball career to bake. Isabel’s embarrassing nicknames never stuck but they usually followed the pattern of dull or boring or goody two shoes which did not boost her confidence when she sometimes compared herself to Elena. Estenaomi: I feel like Naomi would have some sort of nickname from her parents that she keeps telling them to knock it off and they do it anyway like Miss Fiestypants which of course, Esteban found out during one of the family dinners and he loves to bring it up since it fits so well. He also makes up some of his own during their many adventures together. Naomi’s favorite nickname for Esteban is “Geyser” after the one time Esteban got drunk and got a tattoo on his back of a huge geyser that looked like it was coming from his butt (yes just like Ted’s butterfly tattoo in HIMYM. I felt a geyser would be even more ridiculous and so like drunk Esteban to go big or go home) Naomi freaked out when she saw it and she loved making jokes about him blowing his top and stuff like that. Even after he got it removed. Estoma: Esteban’s embarrassing nickname as we know was El Segundo which had disastrous consequences on Esteban’s self esteem. It just reminded him how he was physically inferior to Victor, how everyone paid attention to Elena. That he was second to everyone else in the world. And well, just Esteban.... poor poor Esteban. Doña’s embarrassing nickname was Whore. It all started because her little sibling couldn’t pronounce her full name. And you try to convince a child to try something else when the kid is determined to say what she or he wants, and of course, others thought it was hilarious. It got worse when puberty hit, and she got self conscious that any flirty action she did would be perceived as whorish.
Meeting extended family?
Eleteo: Well obviously Elena has Alacazar full approval even though they got together after his death. But they can just sense it you know. Mateo is beloved by Elena’s grandparents. If I may take from Becky, with Luisa in particular trying to put some meat on his bones. Isabel likes Mateo too of course. He’s like a brother, one who is always willing to listen to her invention ideas and also a calming influence on Elena. Esteban thinks the same. Gababel: Isabel’s whole family enjoys Gabe’s presence though Elena sometimes likes to pull the protective big sister act to catch Gabe off guard. But still their friendship is solid albeit with more teasing. Francisco likes the chance to talk about his vigilante days and watch his swordsmanship and Luisa once again overloads him with treats. Esteban respects Gabe and he too, sometimes pulls protective older sibling act because Isabel is the baby and they’re just protective of her in general. Isabel got to meet Gabe’s aunts and uncles and cousins during the engagement party which was awkward at first. A lot of them were intimidating because she was *the princess of Avalor * but as time wore on, she began to make them feel at ease with his goofy jokes and love of science. Though some still panic when they think they might have potentially offended her. Estenaomi: Esteban was a hit with Naomi’s cousins and aunts and uncles who like to tease and joke with him about his fancy manners and pampered upbringing. Basically it was a fun party with lots of back crushing hugs and blueberry juice. It didn’t take much to win them over. He was already a part of it. Naomi was already warmly accepted with Elena thrilled for her bff to become her sister and Luisa and Francisco admiring her spunk and sassy ways. They thought they balanced each out well. Isabel enjoyed was always counted on to be a riveted audience or a tie breaker for a fight. Estoma: Francisco being the kind man he was happily accepted Esteban’s new gf, and they found a lot to talk about like books and theatre and other culture stuff. Luisa was a bit wary because she knows how Doña acts and Doña was awkwardly polite to her. It got better after the marriage and stuff. Elena was willing to try to make the best of it and so was Isabel but they never became close like Mateo and Gabe are. Age differences and such. Doña didn’t have any contact with her extended family and the only one alive that she knew of her was abuelo who still held a grudge about her parents eloping. But Esteban insisted on going because he wanted to meet him. First, the man didn’t appreciate the unexpected visit. Then began the judgyness like why are you living together when you’re not married? Why marry someone from outside your village? And acting personally offended by how rich Esteban was like in that HIMYM clip, “Oh you with royal upbringing and fancy suit, YOU THINK YA BETTER THAN ME?” Esteban was furious and wasn’t sure how appropriate it would be to throw his drink back at him and yell “YES! I AM!”

Leo/Don #2, #24
Fanfiction Trope MASH-UP
Rules: Send me two (2) tropes from this list + a ship and I’ll describe how I’d combine them in the same story.
Royal AU and Soulmate AU
Leo/Don
First, HI! How are you doing?
Second, THANK YOU FOR THE ASK!!!
Third, let’s get this on!
Okay, so easy easy, especially if you fall into more of a historical line. It was common for Royals to have relationships with each other, there were even a few that would marry only for procreation while their true love was of the same gender. This opens up to soulmates very easily.
One story I would do, if I did these, would be having Leo as a proper prince, trained in the royal military, he’s being groomed to become the next king. He gets assigned a mission to escort a prince from another kingdom through their lands (that can be rather bad at times). He doesn’t like the prince, the guy is kind of a know-it-all, doesn’t seem to care much about others. But Leo really gets along with one of the foot soldiers. He’s really smart, keeps to himself but he’s kind. Leo likes him. As they travel he gets the name of the foot soldier, and it is Donatello. They get close to the point that one night they are up late, taking a shift of watch together and then they kiss, really cute and sweet. After a bit their love grows. Then they get attacked and something weird happens. The soldiers group together around this foot soldier. After the fight, Leo presses to know why and finds out that Donatello is the real prince and the other guy is a double for travel for protection. When they get to where they are to go, it’s Donnie’s wedding and Leo’s heart broken. They separate but they can’t stop thinking about each other so they stay in touch. Leo even gets married and still he can’t love his wife because he loves Donnie. The two arrange to meet each other from time to time and when they do they stay together, kissing, caressing, loving on each other as much as they can because they’re soul mates but they both have duties to their kingdoms.
Another one would be; Leo’s a king, Donnie’s a prince, alpha/omega kind of setting. You would have Donnie betrothed to Leo but Donnie hates it because he wants to tinker and build things and that’s unseemly for any omega. Leo though, when he first sees Donnie is in LOVE, love at first sight. He sees how distressed his future queen is and tries to help him all he can. Donnie, not sure how to take all of this is kind of a jerk at first but eventually warms up to Leo. He liked Leo right away as well, but he’s used to struggling for his rights. They rule all happy and such because this would be a sugary sweet idea.
Speaking of sugar sweets, you could even have a rough idea of “royal” such as Leo is a Baker and he’s considered the KING of Pastries. Then you have Donnie who is a chocolatier and he’s considered the KING of Chocolates. They never really run across each other’s paths. They some times supply each other with things but that’s employees doing the errands for them. Until one day something big, maybe a really important person’s wedding, comes up and both are hired. They have to work together. So they finally meet and they find they work together very well. Donnie does great planning and includes Leo on every decision. Leo is very inelegant and will point out flaws or adjustments that need to be made due to what the customer wants. They spend hours just leaning over a flour dusted counter drinking hot chocolate Donnie made while munching on whatever Leo baked up that day. They just click. When the project is over they decide to continue to do business together but when they need to run something over to the other’s shops they do it themselves as an excuse to see the other until finally someone yells at them, “DATE ALREADY!!” -holy cow this is such a cute idea!! ARGH!!
Another idea, Donnie is royalty. Leo is not. Donnie’s in hiding from a rebel force that wants to wipe out his whole family when honestly Donnie would make a great ruler it was his family that were horrible. Leo finds Donnie in the middle of a transport (moving Don from one safe house to another) and Leo HAS to know him. He doesn’t know why, but he HAS TO NOW! Leo doggedly peruses until he’s almost killed. Leo then finds out what’s going on, but he doesn’t care, he just wants to be with Donnie so he proves himself worthy to be part of the group that protects Donnie. Instead of rushing him to go and get back his throne Leo thinks it’s best to have the rebel forces figure Don’s dead. They work together and flee the kingdom, Leo never leaving Donnie’s side.
I have an idea for a story that I’m currently thinking up which is kiiiind of in these two categories as well. It’s really “Royalty of the street” concept. Donnie is to become the next Don of the New York Mafia, Leo’s going to inherit the Foot Clan. They meet because Donnie tries to assassinate the current “king of new york” aka Shredder. Leo stops him but Donnie gets away. From then on Donnie, who really, really likes Leo, plays a game of cat and mouse with Leo until Leo’s almost completely focused on Donnie. When he finally gets his hands on him, instead of killing him they end up getting together because soulmate stuff. Sorry, can’t do too much details on this one as it’s one I wanna write.
Anyway, thanks again for asking!!

Marry his best friend and boyfriend of two years, Harry. 4. Live happily ever after. Harry Styles doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life, where he wants to go, who he wants to be, or if he even wants the college degree he’s almost completed. All he does know is who he’ll be with forever, as long as Louis wants to keep him around. Or: the painfully realistic college au where everyone’s poor, lovesick, tired of school, terrified of the future, and still having the greatest times of their lives.

Gone, Gone, Gone by Phillip Phillips
Baby I’m not moving onI love you long after you’re gone
Through Eerie Chaos : For as long as anyone can remember, Old Hillsbridge Manor has always been believed to be haunted. Everyone in the village agrees and keeps a respectful, fearful, distance. New in town after a bad breakup and an internship that led to disappointment rather than a permanent job, Harry Styles figures taking pictures of the decrepit building could be a great new creative project. Or at least a much-needed distraction while he searches for a job and crashes at his parents’ new house. No one warned him about the apparitions though; about the music, the laughter, the people who flicker and vanish when you call after them, the echoes of a past that should be long gone… Harry has never believed in spirits but even he can admit that there’s something weird going on. What starts as mere curiosity evolves into a full-blown investigation and soon enough, Harry finds himself making friends with an aristocrat from the 1920s and struggling with finding the best way to tell him that he’s dead.
Sweetest Devotion by Adele
The way I’m running with you honeyMeans we can break every lawI find it funny that you’re the onlyOne I never looked for
The King of Spades : Undercover Metropolitan Police officer DC Louis Tomlinson has worked his way up the ranks of a prominent London crime family without raising suspicion, but when he finds himself pitted against a rising crime boss with a police background and a favoured employee by the name of Harry Styles, everything starts to unravel. Finding himself in the middle of an escalating war between two bosses whose bad blood runs deep into a violent past, Louis has to be even more careful where he steps in case his big secret catches up to him – and if it does, he knows he won’t survive it.Not to mention he’s falling for someone he can’t have – whose earnestness and honesty is a bright spot in a dark world – he can’t sleep because his nightmares haunt him and he’s in way over his head, but it’s just a game, always just a game, and if Louis plays his cards right he might just make it out alive.

We keep behind closed doorsEvery time I see you, I die a little more
Don’t Look Down : AU. In which Louis is a solicitor at one of London’s most prestigious law firms and Harry happens to apply for the position as his trainee. And everyone else is around, too.

Where Your Heart Is: Louis is ready for his brand new adventure. So what if he suffers from a genetic condition that prevents him from being touched? College is going to be awesome. It has to. Karma kind of owes him right now. Forget about his overprotective mother, or Liam– his entirely too chipper step brother– or his mess of a roommate. Forget about the gloves he has to wear at all times. He’s here to expand his knowledge, write and drown himself in books – No matter how distracting ‘Hallway Boy’ may be– The obnoxious, flirty frat wannabe determined to become the bane of Louis’ existence.
Running Back To You by For The Foxes
Hey, old lover, when you fall asleepThere’s a piece of you in every song I singWhere your childhood runs wild and freeWithout me
Empty Skies : For three years, Harry has been running from his past. Now, he is moving to London and pledges to fulfil his only dream – making it big in the music industry. Not everyone has a place, though, and the competition is tough. As is his past catching up on him.Louis is part of the biggest boy band of the world, and getting there had meant a lot of hard work, as well as sacrificing parts of his heart and soul. He’s still happy. Maybe not as happy as he could be, but who is he to complain?

Nameless Night : For their 18th birthday, every person receives a letter that reads a simple date. That is the date you’ll meet your soulmate. Harry and Louis have different beliefs, live in different worlds and have different dreams, hopes and fears. Yet, they’re not so different from each other when it comes to love. When their paths cross, there is no doubt they belong together. Except for that one, essential difference: they didn’t receive the same date.

Soft Hands, Fast Feet, Can’t Lose : American Uni AU. Harry Styles is a frat boy football star from the wealthy Styles Family athletic dynasty. A celebrity among football fans, he knows how to play, he knows how to party, and he knows how to fuck (all of which is well known among his legion of admirers).Louis Tomlinson is a student and an athlete, but his similarities to Harry end there. Intelligent, focused, independent, and completely uninterested in Harry’s charms, Louis is an anomaly in a world ruled by football. A bet about the pair, who might be more similar than they originally thought, brings them together. Shakespeare, ballet, Disney, football, library chats, running, accidental spooning, Daredevil and Domino’s Pizza all blend into one big friendship Frappucino, but who will win in the end?
Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode
Someone to hear your prayersSomeone who caresYour own personal Jesus
Escapade : In the grand scheme of things, finding a date for a wedding should be no problem for Louis Tomlinson. He’s rich. He’s handsome. He’s reasonably well behaved. Headpieces, jazz, fashionable canes, and flapper dresses, and that.

He bears it with dignity.

According to your heartMy place is not deliberateFeeling of your armsI don’t want to be your friend, I want to kiss your neck
Unbelievers : It’s Louis’ senior year, and he’s dead set on doing it right. However, along with his pair of cleats, a healthy dose of sarcasm and his ridiculous best friend, he’s also got a complicated family, a terrifyingly uncertain future, and a mortal enemy making his life just that much worse. Mortal enemies “with benefits” was not exactly the plan. Or: The one where Louis and Harry definitely aren’t friends, and football is everything.
Stand By Me by Florence + The Machine
No I won’t be afraidJust as long as you stand, stand by me

Louis is very wary of the man who might replace him. He has always thought of Liam as his own brother. What if Liam doesn’t need him anymore? What if there’s no room for Louis? After all, blood runs thicker than water. Louis doesn’t like Liam’s new brother and he doesn’t even know him. That’s irrelevant, though. He doesn’t like him. He doesn’t trust him. Chasing Empty Spaces : The year is 1934 and Harry Styles was to inherent the largest tobacco firm in the south. His parents have picked out the “perfect” girl for him to marry and he has the privilege of receiving the highest education possible. The problem was, Harry hadn’t realized he didn’t actually want any part of that future until he met a mechanic named, Louis Tomlinson.
I Will Wait by Mumford & Sons
You forgave and I won’t forget
Feels Like Coming Home : The last thing Harry Styles expects when he’s hanging out at the Someday Cafe in Somerville one rainy October day is for his ex, Louis Tomlinson to walk through the door, but that’s exactly what happens. After a spectacularly ugly break-up three years prior, Harry hasn’t heard one word from Louis, and he’s moved on. Gotten over him. But having Louis back in his life, not to mention working at the restaurant where he’s a chef, isn’t easy, and the feelings that Harry thought he’d left turn out to be not so easily forgotten.

Born or Made: Born
Birthday: December 25th
Zodiac Sign: Capricorn

→ His Personality
Ellis Watts is a workaholic. He has spent the entire duration as head of the Jackals looking for ways to better the clan and push them into more prominent positions within the city. This includes heavily encouraging the jackals in his clan to pursue a degree and better themselves intellectually. He also serves the citizens of Chicago as the City Planner. He has been making significant efforts to improve the quality of life for both supernaturals and humans. He is very dedicated to his work and responsibilities and does not falter in his duties. He is disciplined, often working nights and weekends until a project is seen through to the end.
However when Ellis relaxes, he does so in style. He loves expensive clothes and timepieces, nice cars, and excessive hobbies. Since he could get his hands on them, he’s loved anything with a motor: cars, motorcycles, and speed boats. Only recently has he begun to tackle the skies. It was a 95th birthday present to himself, and he’s almost put enough hours in to finally obtain his license to fly. He also enjoys spirits, and has begun making his own wine. This harkens back to his youth filled with mild over indulgence and a desire to escape.
→ His Personal Facts

→ His Connections
Parent Names:
Ellis Watts II (Father): Ellis did not have a very strong relationship with his father, contrary to everyone in their pack.

Axe to the Heart: Chapter 2
Astrid Hofferson/Steve Harrington. “Maybe I hate a lot of things here in Hawkins but I suppose you’re not one of them.”
Chapter 1
Edit: Thank you very much to @warrior-of-httyd and @ashleybenlove for giving this trash pair a chance and for the lovely reviews. :D
The next few days became worse and worse. She did nothing but paperwork at the station, the only one who really acknowledged her there was Florence (who said to call her Flo), school was getting tougher by the day (what could she expect, it was senior year), and for some Thorforsaken fucking reason, Steve Harrington was still walking around like someone killed his cat (honestly, what a drama queen).
And Astrid hated the gut feeling she had that paperwork was all she’d ever do in her life, her grades would find a way to mess up eventually, and that she was the one who murdered the fucking kitten.
She was working her ass off to try to get past the first two problems. She could not let her grades slip, or her parents would take an interest in her, but not in a good way. And maybe, just maybe, she’d get Chief Hopper’s seal of approval.
The Steve Harrington thing she could just forget. Right? Right?
Wrong. Apparently, fate was working against her.
“Byers and Campbell, Harrington and Hofferson, Jackson and Brown…”
Everything, Astrid decided as she saw Harrington coming towards her, was shit. Her teacher, and this project in general were part of that everything.
Harrington dropped his bag and slumped in the chair next to her, before looking at her expectantly. She bit back a grimace and shifted her seat closer.
“I hope you know what we’re doing, Hofferson, because I have no clue what the hell she just said.”
Astrid snorted despite herself. Typical.
“We need to choose any Shakespearean work and act out a five minute scene of something we believed should have happened. That was the basic stuff. Everything else was her telling us in fancy terms how much she’d love to fail us if we screwed this up.”
“Wow, I didn’t know you spoke Shakespeare.” He flashed a grin at her, and Astrid bit her lip to stop a sigh of relief from escaping her.
He didn’t hold hard feelings - whatever he was upset about had nothing to do with her.
But then, maybe that was worse. Now she felt even more guilty, because he didn’t hold a grudge. Couldn't he just hate her and get on with it?
“So, when do you want to meet up to plan this thing?”
Astrid thought about what she had remembered last night. For someone who was dubbed a king, he sure didn't have that many friends. Since she'd been here she’d only seen him sitting with Nancy Wheeler, but yesterday, Nancy had sat with Jonathan, and Astrid had seen Harrington sitting by himself. There wasn't any need for him to - half the girls in the school would be more than willing to help him move on.
But what the hell. They might as well just spend the period together. She certainly didn't have anyone vying for her attention.
“Why don't we do it at lunch?” Then, to clear it up lest he think she watched him while she ate, she quickly said, “If you're not too busy.”
“Nah. I'm not. You know...too busy dreaming about girls who like photography nerds.” He shot her a smirk. Asshole. “I’ll find you there, then?” Harrington extended a hand.
He still looked like a fucking wreck. Astrid shook his hand and they didn’t say anymore to each other for the last five minutes of class.
They could have planned right then, but honestly...Astrid was looking forward to not sitting alone at lunch, and when she threw a quick glance to Harrington who was smiling at his phone, she thought he might be too.
“So…”
“So.”
“Why don’t we choose a book?” Astrid suggested, taking out her notebook and pencil. “We’ve read - well, I’ve read - most of them.”
“Hey,” Harrington cut in, looking affronted, “I’ve read them too. I’ve read...Romeo and Juliet. Oh, and Macbeth.”
“Hamlet? Midsummer Night’s Dream? Julius Caesar?” Astrid raised a brow at him as she listed some of her favorites (there was a reason she was in Shakespearean Literature and it wasn’t because she needed the credits).
“Maybe we could stick to Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth?” he asked, looking hopeful. Astrid nearly laughed - but she caught herself.
“Fine. Any ideas?” She bent down, ready to write. They could probably jot down notes and maybe even start a script by the end of the period.
“Not a one.”
Astrid snapped her head up and blew her bangs out of her face as she stared at him. “Okay, so I’ll be doing the work. Whatever. Just practice your lines when I give you them.” She stood up with her tray, taking her things in the other hand (and realized she really should have put her things in her bag before she stood up. She blamed Harrington and his floofy hair for distracting her).
“Hey, hey, no, I’ll help!” He stood up so quickly and with such wide eyes that Astrid relented (she relented? She relented? Just when the fuck was the last time she relented to anyone?) and sat down. Harrington sat back down as well, looking satisfied. “Okay, so I think we should do Romeo and Juliet. It’s everyone’s favorite.”
“But if it’s everyone’s favorite, everyone will be doing it. Maybe we should go with Macbeth.” She leaned back before realizing there was no wall behind her.
Okay, whatever this new idiotic side of her was, it needed to stop popping up in front of Steve fucking Harrington. First she had the gall to feel guilty, and now she was doing dumb stuff like relenting - if she didn’t look out she might start joking around with him.
“What scene could we add to Macbeth?”
“What scene could we add to Romeo and Juliet?” Astrid shot back. If he said that they should show the sex scene in greater detail then Thor help him, she would murder him.
“Maybe a scene with the parents mourning. You could be Lady Capulet and I’d be Lord Montague since Lady Montague died.”
It...wasn’t a bad idea. It was okay. More than she expected.
“Okay…” She wrote the idea down. “Mourning parents. I can work with that.”
“We can work with that,” Harrington insisted, leaning forward and reading her notes upside down. “You know, Lady Capulet really suits you.”
Astrid looked up at him. There was a small smile on his face and testily she asked, “Why do you say that?”
He shook his head, seemingly holding back a laugh. “Lady Capulet was stuffy as hell, you’d play her really well.”
Astrid glared at him, stuffed her notebook and pencil in her bag (ha, she thought ahead this time), and stood up, storming away from him.
Five people. Five people in the whole world were allowed to make fun of her about her personality...her “stuffiness.” And Harrington wasn’t one of those five people. So he could go screw himself.
“Hey...hey!”
She ignored him, leaving the lunch room even though she heard whispers. Astrid didn’t want anyone whispering about her, but if she turned around and snapped at him in front of everyone, whispers would be the least of her problems.
It was when she stopped at her locker that Harrington caught up with her. “Okay. I’m sorry. Be Montague. Lady Montague, that is. We can bring her back from the dead. Sorry.”
“You don’t need to apologize,” Astrid snarled - could he let her be irritated with him in piece? - as she shoved her bag in the locker and took out what she would need for the next period. “Tell me I’m being a drama queen and go away.”
“Hey, I’m the queen of drama queens.” He peered at her and gave her a charming grin (which, damn it all to hell, was pretty charming). “Just don’t stop talk - uh, brainstorming with me. Please? I just...really wanna work hard to get this grade.”
What the hell was wrong with him? Usually guys called her out for being a bitch or being dramatic, which she usually was. On purpose. The only guy who hadn’t done that who she’d been romantically involved with was Hiccup, and no one was like him. Certainly not King Steve.
Astrid slammed her locker shut and looked up at him (she blamed his hair for the extra foot he had on her). “Don’t call me stuffy again.”
“Won’t.” He looked completely serious. “Definitely...will not. At all. Um...I don’t think we should go back to the cafeteria because there are people who saw us leave -”
“Yeah, thanks for that, Romeo.”
“ - Welcome, Lady Montague. Hey, maybe we should have that instead! A scene between Romeo and his mom where they talk some stuff out.”
Astrid shook her head, hiding her smile as she hugged her books close to her chest. Well, that was strange. All the anger had evaporated. But he had called her stuffy. And he wasn’t allowed to.
But it wasn’t as though she was suddenly close to him, it was just nice to...talk to someone like this again. Like a friend.
“Next.”
“A scene between Nurse and some random cook and we just make it pure comedy.”
“Next!”
“Secretly Paris was having an affair with Paris from the Iliad.”
“Next!”
I have never written a second chapter this quickly, do you need any more proof that this ship owns my body and soul now?

This is part of a longer piece, but I think it works as a standalone scene, too, so here. Warnings for implied/discussed rape + depictions of violence. (It’s all stuff from the canonical city elf origin, and it’s less explicit than the game itself.) I’ll put it on Ao3 when I finish the rest of it.
---
The events of the morning fade almost too quickly. As soon as she gets over the initial shock of being conscripted, Aria Tabris is all questions, wanting to know everything she can about the Wardens. She exhausts Duncan's store of standard information by mid-afternoon, and then moves on to other questions—are there other elves in the wardens? Women? Dwarves? Mages? Are they paid for serving? Do they have professions outside being wardens? Not that it matters, but are any of them married? What do darkspawn look like? Are they really corrupted magisters, like the chantry says? Can they all use magic? Are the magic ones connected to the fade? Can they strategize, or is it all just rushing towards the nearest person? What about lower-level tactics, like parrying blows? If some of them can use crossbows, doesn't that indicate a level of intelligent thought beyond that of, say, cats, or are things like that more innate than learned when it comes to monsters? Has he ever stopped to consider the relative intelligence of cats, and how difficult it is to measure something like that? (He has not.)
It isn't until nightfall that the shadows press in around her and seep into her dreams. She wakes up sickened and disoriented, her mind clawing at images of Vaughan's face and Nola's corpse. She remembers the stench of death. The sick, slippery feeling of blood on the floor. The sense that her emotions were too large to fit in her body, as she became a shell devoid of anything but movement—beyond anger, beyond fear, beyond uncertainty. The way her ill-fitting, stolen armor glinted in the sunlight when she raised her hand, calm as a statue of a saint, and said it was my doing. She had not been afraid. She was not capable of fear, by that point. She'd been staring her death in the face, and she wasn't going to give death the satisfaction of seeing her cower.
Only she isn't dead, not yet. She clings to life like a sick person who, despite having no chance of recovery, has not yet actually vacated the premises. Sometimes death is lazy; sometimes the valkyries deliberate. Sometimes one is left between states, too weak to live and too strong to die (or, perhaps, the opposite).
Somehow she staggers off her bedroll and manages to lean against the nearest tree. She hasn't eaten enough in the past day to vomit up much more than acid, but her whole frame shakes for minutes afterward. She makes very little noise while she cries. Eventually, she becomes aware that Duncan is watching her.
"I wasn't running," she bites out, when she can speak. "Just had to take a minute."
"Peace, Tabris," he answers. He offers her a canteen. She nods her thanks before drinking, though it takes another minute for her to finish centering herself. He waits.
"I don't get it," she says, at last.
"The world is a violent place."
"I know that," she snaps. "I meant you. Looking for recruits to fight the blight and save the world, I understand that. But why the alienage? Elves aren't even allowed to carry weapons. You can conscript anyone at all, and you pick the people who can't recognize the sharp end of a sword."
He is silent for a long moment. She senses that there is something he isn't telling her, but he takes the question seriously, offering her what he has, wisdom passed from the dead to the dying. "No man controls the circumstances of his birth. Whether he is elven or human, rich or poor, mage or not. The same cannot be said of heroism and nobility of spirit. They are often found in unlikely places."
"Maybe," she answers, but says no more.
The days that follow are calmer, as Aria settles into the rhythm of waiting for the last piece of death to set in. She does not complain, either about their pace or their less-than-appetizing travel rations. They pass through various small towns without stopping for the night, but they do buy more supplies, and Aria is allowed to spend some of her meager savings on a few balls of yarn. It's cold in the south, and she doesn't have much in the way of warm clothing. Besides, it keeps her hands occupied. As nervous habits go, at least knitting is a useful one. Duncan worries that it leaves her distracted and open to attack, but he gives her the choice up front, rather than issue a blanket ultimatum: either continue knitting and be on guard, or put the project away and focus on the road. She decides to continue, and later dodges his attack without trouble. The next day, he offers to pay her to knit a new pair of socks for him. When she protests that the offered price is too much, he laughs at her.
She doesn't think much about the fact that she won't be allowed to see her family until after the blight (if it is a blight), mostly because she doesn't expect to be here that long. She doesn't think about anything much, except the wardens and her yarn and the wedding that did not occur. Occasionally she finds herself holding Nelaros's ring in her hand, examining it. It's beautiful—not high-quality gold, even she can tell that, but it's covered in delicate designs that resemble wings, almost reminiscent of the patterns on her face. She supposes Nelaros must have been told about the markings before he agreed to marry her; perhaps he meant for the ring to reflect the same meaning as the markings, though he could not possibly have known what that meaning was. She closes her eyes and tries to remember his face. She thinks she sees it properly, handsome features blushing as he's introduced to his bride. Better this than the other image, the image of his dead body lying on the floor.
Aria opens her eyes. Soon, she knows, she'll forget what he looked like. Not much later, she herself will pass away. The ring and its markings will remain.
"There are rings in this world that contain great power," says Duncan, at one point. Her eyes snap up. His face is impassive. "However, I doubt that this is one of them."
"He's dead," she says, responding not to the words but to what she supposes is the question behind them. "He died for me. He knew he might, but he came anyway."
"And that was brave of him, certainly. But tell me, is it truly Nelaros you mourn?"
She hesitates. She thinks they would have been happy together, but she didn't know him, not really. Maybe she can't mourn him properly. "Second chances, maybe. He's not going to get one."
Duncan nods seriously. "Few people do, and yet here you are."
"Here I am," agrees Aria.
By the time they can see the broken stone walls, she's knitted one sweater, a pair of gloves, a hat, two pairs of socks, and most of a third. Her thoughts change again as they make their final approach toward Ostagar. She remembers Nessa's concerns about being surrounded by human men who haven't seen a woman in months. It is not a pleasant thought, certainly, but things could be worse. At least Nessa herself won't have to deal with Ostagar. At least Soris and Shianni and Valora and Cyrion are all momentarily safe. She supposes the human soldiers must have similar groups waiting for them back home. Human wives, human children, aging human parents. People who matter to them more than their lives. She tries to remember this similarity as she and Duncan draw closer to the high stone walls.
The fortress is massive, and visible from a long way off. Duncan's pace does not increase, but he walks with even more purpose now. When they do reach the fortress, a man in gold-colored armor greets them. Aria's never seen the king, despite living in his city for her entire life. She has no time to prepare herself—one moment Duncan is saying your majesty, and before she's had a chance to adjust to this, her king has fixed his eyes on her.
Some tiny sliver of her is excited, but most of her is convinced that this is a terrible thing to have happen. Ordinarily, when a nobleman deigns to notice one, this is a sign of pressing danger, and the best course of action is to be an unremarkable part of the scenery until he loses interest and moves on. What's the least-interesting personality for a female elven soldier to have? Too deferential and she could be marked as an easy target, too abrasive and someone could decide she needs to be taken down a peg. Cheerful nonchalance? They're all here to fight the same enemy, so maybe if she can make it obvious that she's here to do the same—
"Ho there, friend! Might I know your name?"
"Aria," she says, then blinks. "Uh, your majesty."
He smiles, but doesn't laugh at her. "I see you're an elf, friend." She swallows, unsure whether the friend part is meant to be taken seriously. "From where do you hail?"
"Denerim," says Aria, clenching one hand into a fist at her side. Calm. Stay calm, Tabris.
"As do I!" exclaims Cailan, delighted at this supposed similarity. "Are you from one of the alienages? Tell me, how is it there? My guards all but forbid me from going there."
"Uh." Her mind goes blank. There are a thousand good things about the alienage, and a thousand serious problems the king should rightly be informed about, but she can't remember any of them. She sees Vaughan, her sword in his stomach, staring at her, unable to comprehend the fact of his own death. Shianni, crying weakly, no longer begging for him to stop. Nola, slain and discarded like so much refuse. Nelaros's blood seeping into the rug.
"Uh," she says again, no longer remembering the question. Cheerful nonchalance. "I killed an arl's son for raping my cousin."
She senses rather than sees the men around her planning to smooth this offense over. What she sees, though, is Cailan's expression—not anger, not disgust, but shock. Now she feels guilty, like it's her fault for destroying whatever sanitized ideas he had about how his city holds itself together. Also, there are probably ways of saying that sort of thing that don't make her sound like she intentionally set out to commit revenge-murder, that make it clear that she killed him because he was still threatening to rape her. And now she can't say them, because everyone will tell the rest of the camp that the newest gray warden is some kind of psychopathic vigilante spree killer.
Duncan says something that sounds reasonable and diplomatic. Aria can't hear anything specific over her obnoxiously loud heartbeat and desire to sink into the ground, at least until Cailan addresses her again.
"Well, allow me to be the first to welcome you to Ostagar," says Cailan, somehow smiling again. The expression looks weirdly genuine. Are all human nobles that good at faking smiles? "The Wardens will benefit greatly with you in their service."
"I—thank you, your majesty," she says, too startled to react any other way.
There is more discussion after that, primarily about darkspawn and Loghain—wait, the Loghain? She doesn't get the chance to ask. The king is busy, as she supposes he would be, and in a few more seconds, he and his men have returned to continue their duties. She and Duncan are left standing alone at the edge of the ruin.
"I didn't mean to say that," she says, crossing her arms in front of her.
"Such things happen," says Duncan, serenely. "As for the darkspawn—"
Her head snaps up again, eager to talk about this and not the other things. "Do you think he's right about it not being a real blight? Can the darkspawn do that, just come to the surface in large numbers without an archdemon to lead them?"
"There is an archdemon behind this," says Duncan, before she can ask anything else. "But I cannot ask the king to act solely on my feeling." He goes on for a while, explaining that Ferelden will not wait for the Wardens in Orlais. Aria is sure she's missing something there, with regard to the political situation—she's vaguely aware of Orlais as the nation that once occupied Ferelden, the nation that Loghain (if it is that Loghain) fought to free them from, but she doesn't know how the Wadrens fit into all that, or how much they're meant to represent their respective nations. "We must look to Teryn Loghain to make up the difference."
"It is the Loghian, right?" she says, prompting Duncan to frown at her. "You know, the Hero of River Dane? He's here? What does he think of Wardens? Is he prepared for the darkspawn, or for an archdemon, if one appears? Is he—"
"Perhaps you can ask him yourself, in due time, but we have our own concerns to attend to. We should proceed with the joining ritual without delay."
There are, of course, more questions after that. She makes mental note of the answers: Secret, secret, confidential, secret, yes, all gray wardens have to undergo it, secret, she'll be told what to do in due time, no, she isn't the only recruit, secret, yes, it is dangerous, confidential, trust me, not something you need to know right now—
"Perhaps you'd like to explore the camp," says Duncan, motioning towards the rest of the ruin. It somehow looks even larger than it did from the outside, and all of it is constructed from stone. Say what you will of the ancient Tevinters, but they knew how to build. The Ferelden army seems to be occupying most of the space, but there are also tradespeople, animal pens, shopkeepers, at least one tent that seems to have mages around it, and probably a thousand other fascinating things that aren't immediately leaping out to her. "All I ask is that you do not leave it, for now."
"That won't be hard," she says, following him as he walks over the massive stone bridge and towards the main camp. It's so big, and so old. She feels like an ant in comparison. "Uh. Do you need me to do anything specific?"
"Eat. Get your bearings. Speak to the other recruits, if you wish. When you are ready to proceed with the joining, you should look for Alistair, another of the Gray Wardens here."
"Cool," says Aria, pressing her hands together for another few moments. "You don't, uh, have any advice, do you?"
"Prepare yourself. These are dangerous times," says Duncan, as the two of them return to solid ground. It is with this thought that he leaves her, surrounded by human strangers and the workings of a nation preparing itself for war.
Aria rocks on the balls of her feet and tries to absorb the entire area in a single moment. A fitting place for a dead woman, at least one whose body hasn't yet caught onto that detail. They're of a kind, she and the ruins, though the evidence of her life will pass away much more quickly.
But not today. Today there is work to be done.

Voices From The Hedge - Chapter 18
From this point on, there’s no going back. We’re committed now.
Voices From The Hedge is an original novel by Alldenspa. If you’re unfamiliar with this project, I would be very happy if you checked out my information post about it HERE! It’s a story about magic and nerds, so if you’re into that, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!
Chapter 18 - The Statute Of Liberty
Eos didn’t know for how long he had been sleeping, and he couldn’t remember what he had dreamed about. The sound of the attic’s trapdoor echoed in his sore head. Within seconds, he was wide awake again, hastily sitting up in his bed just as a familiar green shock of hair appeared at the other end of the room. Seconds later, Ienge Alagdi had walked over, hurled his equipment aside and let himself fall into the sheets with a sigh of relief. “How was it?” asked Eos quickly, happy to see his friend return from the mission unscathed, “Did you find anything?” “Oh man, it was great actually,” replied Ienge with a look towards his sleepy colleague, but something in his voice made Eos hesitate with his response — There was a concerned tone mixed into the satisfied statement. “You… don’t sound too pleased, though,” he said, nervously glancing at Ienge and the equipment on his bed. “Well, it’s not all good news—” Ienge sat up and pushed his hair out of his face, looking over to Eos as he tried to find a good way of saying what worried him. Eos suddenly panicked — He jerked his head over to the trapdoor, hoping for Leit to appear, but Ienge sensed his thought. “Don’t worry, he’s fine,” he said quickly, and Eos visibly relaxed. “Honestly, you should have seen him. I knew he was some kind of prodigy but really, his skills are mad. Mad!” Eos turned back to Ienge, suppressing a yawn. “What happened?” “The good news is that Aria Tsuyoi, currently the leader of the Red Flag Rebels, agreed to the information exchange, which means that we will hopefully have detailed info on how Kengnatz raided all our hideouts very soon. The bad news—” He readjusted his seating position on the mattress, “—Is that we found not a single document hinting at the rebel cells being involved in that whole Oredchimegdi business.” He noticed Eos’ slightly irritated expression and explained: “It basically means that Liberty’s original theory, namely that rebels leaked information to H-E enabling them to raid Kengnatz and retake that scientist, might be wrong, at least there is no indication of it to be found where we thought it would be. Now generally speaking, this doesn’t pose any danger to the agency and us, but it still begs the question how H-E got that intelligence.” He paused a second, and then added with a serious glare: “If you ask me, there is another, so far unknown actor using the corps against each other for their own good. The whole thing is scary, honestly…” Eos thought about all this for a moment and was just opening his mouth to reply, but Ienge continued: “No, that’s not even all of it. There’s something else, far more alarming — We found it by accident, but it’s very, very concerning.” Eos turned to him, a worried expression on his face as he rubbed his eye sleepily. Ienge wanted to go on talking, but the sound of the trapdoor opening took the boys’ attention. It was Leit. “So, it’s true after all?” asked Ienge ominously. Leit nodded, his eyebrows furrowed with concern. “Crisis meeting. Come downstairs.”
The briefing room was gripped in a tense and uneasy atmosphere. It was obvious to see that after Timely Resurrection, nobody was in the mood for another important briefing at the expense of their sleep time. Around the long table, rumor was already playing its dark game of misinformation and worry, and none of the agents seemed to really know what had happened. Mugs were being emptied nervously and everybody was awaiting Central to make their appearance. A minute later, the sheets at the entrance were hurled aside, cold night air flooded in, and with it Liberty and Emerald. The room fell silent. “Thank you for sticking around,” said Liberty tiredly as they made their way around the table to take position at the far end, “Shichal, give us a briefing!” Next to Eos, Leit stood up nervously and looked around the table — All eyes were on him. He cleared his throat before starting to speak in a formal and very professional tone. “Agent Alagdi and I just returned as planned from attending the rebel gathering. As most of you already know, we were surprisingly not able to find any compromising material regarding the rebel cells’ involvement in H-E’s rescue of Oredchimegdi. This again poses the question how H-E acquired the necessary intelligence, that is to say: Who gave them the anonymous tip. But this is not the most concerning thing to spawn from our investigation.” He exchanged a quick nod with Liberty and produced a large piece of paper from his pocket, unfolding it carefully as he spoke. It didn’t look like anything special. “This is a message,” he continued, “Intended for Red Flag leader Aria Tsuyoi, sent to her just this afternoon and written by none other than information broker Ketten of Ilierka. The text reads as follows.” He cleared his throat again, this time more anxiously, and Eos was on the edge of his seat waiting for the content of the letter — Judging by the way everyone was acting, this was of prime importance. “To the honorable leader of our resistance, Aria Tsuyoi of the Red Mane. It pains me to say it, but I must speak my mind. I’m afraid Djoutunhaim has beaten me. His agents are everywhere, and I must fear for my life. It has been made clear that he intends to take me hostage for information, I will not be able to evade capture much longer. You, of all people, know best the essential nature of my person to the rebel cause, and I should not need to convince you that my capture and forced leaking of rebel intelligence to the Insurance will destroy what you have built all these years. I urge you to send a team of resistance fighters to the Social Insurance Headquarters to rescue me before it is too late — There is not any time to lose: By the time you read this message, I will already be in Djoutunhaim’s custody. With admiration, the humble information broker Ketten of Ilierka.” There was a pause. Agents exchanged concerned looks, and Eos knew why: Information traders were almost never caught — Too strong was their ability to evade the corporate grasp and blackmail their way out of almost any dangerous situation. The corporations had long realized that it wasn’t worth it to spend resources on a broker hunt if they could just negotiate with the man instead, buying the intelligence they wanted from him directly instead of going through a long and exhausting cat-and-mouse game before finally realizing that the only thing getting them closer to their goal was money going into the broker’s hand — officially. As a result, intelligence brokers were almost enjoying a fool’s freedom on the political scene, and if the very king of information, Ketten of Ilierka himself, had indeed been captured alive by the Social Insurance, then this was big, big news. “No proof of the letter’s authenticity was found,” continued Leit without any sign of emotional comittment after giving the other agents time to process, “But Heaven’s Hand has compared it to other documents and indeed, it is Ketten’s handwriting.” Concerned sighs went around the table. Liberty stood up again, giving a grateful nod to Leit, who returned down to his seat and took a deep breath, a tiny drop of sweat on his forehead. “We can assume,” said Liberty, whose lack of sleep was easily visible on his face, “That a number of similar letters were sent to other institutions, possibly including our agency, but seeing as we were uninformed of this, it is safe to say that Djoutunhaim must have anticipated Ketten’s calls for help and intercepted the respective letters. Apart from this one, of course.” At the other end of the room, the Professor raised his hand. “So what’s our plan, Sir?” Liberty shook his head. “Let’s not be too hasty,” he replied, “I would advise against taking immediate action on this.” He wanted to continue, but Igsher interrupted him: “What do you mean, ‘you would advise against’? I can’t imagine any reason preventing us from going in there right now!” “Except for sleep deprivation,” muttered Ienge on the seat next to Eos. Liberty gestured with his hands, struggling to find an opening for him to explain his position, but the storm had already started. “You know full well that this is Ketten we’re talking about,” said Igsher loudly. “Aye, we can’t afford to let the Insurance get this kind of advantage!” added the Professor decisively, although not in the same volume. “What about the intelligence he has about us? Do you want to risk that going the way of—” “Silence! All!” yelled Emerald from her wheelchair, the first thing that she had spoken during the whole meeting. There was instant silence. “When will you learn to act like professionals?” she said, more a statement than a real question. “Liberty, continue.” Liberty readjusted his collar with a timid look to the woman next to him, and turned his attention back to the agents gathered around the table. Igsher was visibly unsettled. “The Insurance has been cooperating with us to fantastic effect on the mission earlier tonight, they have saved four of our agents from Sibrodi’s assassination attempt,” His eyes rested on the four boys for a moment, “And I have an extensive and increasingly pleasant correspondence with Djoutunhaim. This is the first time in years that our agency is close to forming a stable alliance with another company. None of you can deny that this is an opportunity we cannot pass up — The advantages are simply too great.” Osrakey and the Professor scratched their respective chins, deep in thought, and across the table of Eos, Intergard leant back in her chair with a concerned expression. Without doubt, everyone was realizing that Liberty had a point — It was a great opportunity, one the like of which the agency had not had in a long time. “I disagree,” said Intergard decisively after a short pause of thinking, “If the Insurance succeeds in extracting any kind of information about us from Ketten, they won’t need this alliance any longer. You can chat with Djoutunhaim all you want, but the fact remains that in the end everyone looks first to their own.” The Professor nodded approvingly — Apparently he shared Intergard’s opinion, and he wasn’t the only one around the table. “No,” replied Liberty with unusual vigor in his voice, “Even if they are successful, a treaty would still be advantageous for both sides! The fact that Ketten is captured might be moderately concerning, but it isn’t a threat to our peace negotiations, and I will not let it become one because you can’t see what’s good of the agency in the long run!” “Liberty is right, Kwifeldis,” added Elettra with a look to Intergard, “Even if Ketten’s capture poses a danger, we can still try to release him covertly after the peace treaty is decided, or feed information about it to other corporations and let them do the job for us! Keep in mind that nobody knows we found this letter, so whatever kind of intel we leak about this, it won’t be traced to us.” Intergard didn’t respond — Although the truth in Elettra’s explanation was easy to see, she was obviously uncomfortable with leaving so much valuable knowledge in the hands of another party. Whether the Social Insurance, or Kengnatz, or any other corporation had control over Ketten didn’t make much of a difference to her, and neither did the fact that Central had worked together with Djoutunhaim to positively life-saving success only three hours ago. “I still disagree,” she said plainly, apparently refusing to argue over this any longer. From looking around the table, Eos could see that she was not alone with her opinion. Some of the other agents, especially the Professor and Igsher, were exchanging reinforcing looks with Intergard and each other, almost as if stealthily forming some sort of agreement without speaking at all. “Be that as it may,” said Liberty, trying to conclude the argument in a diplomatic way, “I will continue to negotiate with Djoutunhaim — If I am successful, we will have an official alliance treaty ready in two or three days. Until such a time—” His eyes rested on Intergard and the other members of the opposition for some seconds before he continued in a very serious voice, “—Nobody, I repeat, Nobody will take any action concerning Ketten’s capture. Do I make myself clear?” A round of sometimes confident, sometimes hesitant responses of “Yes, Sir” went around the table, and nobody dared to object openly. After all, even with the White Cave gone Liberty and Emerald still held the absolute authority within the agency.
The meeting concluded, and the boys went back to the attic. Eos was 100% ready for bed — All this had strained his physical as well as his emotional capacities more than enough. In the room below, he could hear Intergard pulling drawers in quick succession and the sound of her door opening multiple times as if she was going back and forth between the hallway and her desk, but Eos tried not to be too intrusive so he paid no attention. A minute later, all lights in the attic were out and the four boys laid motionless in their beds. Although the news was alarming, even Benx didn’t feel strong enough to continue chatter for long. The room below, however, was still as busy as before. Eos had no idea what Intergard was doing. He could even hear voices — Voices belonging to a number of agents, not just her. Was she giving a casual tea party down there? He tried not to listen in, but it was hard given the lack of anything else happening in the darkness of the night. “This is very serious,” said a male voice that Eos assumed to be Igsher’s, from what he could hear. “We need to act quickly, that much is certain,” replied the Professor, but a quick “Hush!” from Intergard made him lower his voice immediately. “This room isn’t soundproof,” she reminded him, her whisper almost inaudible on the attic above. “What, you’re concerned the kids upstairs will go tell daddy?” asked Igsher in a mocking voice, and Eos’ eyes flung open. What were they talking about? He sat up in his bed, very careful not to make any noise, and the dim light coming from between the wooden beams on the floor was enough for him to see that Benx was doing the same. Just what was going on? In the room below, Intergard continued whispering, her energetic voice now clearly understandable. “Listen, this is a lethally dangerous plan, I will not allow some kids to be dragged—” “They’re not kids!” said the Professor harshly. Intergard sighed. “We’ll need all the help we can get if we really want to do this; You know that, Kwifeldis,” added Igsher, “You know there’s no other option — Go get them down here.” Intergard let out a groan of resignation, and opened the door of her room. Her heavy steps echoed back from the roof as she climbed the ladder to the trapdoor. One moment later, a column of light illuminated the attic as she pushed it open. Ienge sleepily mumbled something, but it wasn’t convincing. Intergard eyed them with a look of frustration mixed with the knowledge that this was necessary. After a short silence of exchanged stares, she shrugged and just said: “You lot have probably heard everything anyways. Get dressed.” Eos suddenly realized that he was wide awake. Granted, he had mixed feelings about what Intergard and the other agents were planning downstairs, but the thrill of the forbidden seemed to have washed away any bit of exhaustion that had gripped him just a moment earlier. It didn’t even take a full minute for all four boys to hastily get into their clothes and quietly but quickly climb down the ladder to join whatever was going on. Intergard’s room was large and scarcely decorated. A wardrobe with a rattletrap desk on one side and a massive steel bedframe holding a thick mattress on the other were the only things she deemed necessary — The desk was filled with notes and small brass artefacts, giving a strange contrast to the otherwise empty room. A single but rather strong Fallos artefact hung from the center of the wooden ceiling and on the floor, a circular shape where the wood was lighter than elsewhere indicated that a carpet had been lying there for some time, but it had been removed. Within the room were four people: Intergard herself was leaning against the wall next to the desk, her arms crossed in front of her chest and with a concerned expression on her face. Sarb Igsher was sitting on the bed, his legs crossed and looking much less tense than her, although more tired — Next to him stood the Professor, scratching his nose absent-mindedly. And leant against the opposite wall, hands behind his back and eyeing the boys with a subtle smile as they entered, was Han Osrakey. “Welcome to the fellowship,” said Igsher with a cheerful grin. “What’s going on?” asked Leit, although Eos suspected that he already knew. The gathered agents exchanged a series of looks, and Intergard’s answer was plain: “We’re going rogue.”
Eos had to admit: From what they had overheard in the attic, he had figured that much — But still, he would never have expected people like Intergard and the Professor to willingly disobey their superiors, much less only half an hour after they had given the precise order to not. “With respect, Madam, but you want to go against Liberty’s direct command?” he asked with a face that told of his genuine confusion. “Not quite,” answered Intergard, “If leaving Ketten at the hands of Djoutunhaim was actually Central’s wish, I probably wouldn’t be here. But it isn’t.” Eos still didn’t quite understand. “Liberty wants us to stay away so that he can seal that alliance pact with the Insurance,” explained the Professor, “But everyone can see that it’s a mistake. The only reason he wants it to happen is because he’s friends with Djoutunhaim and he overestimates the importance of this treaty.” “Or to be more precise, he has become friends with him very recently,” added Igsher, whose frown revealed that he didn’t think too highly of Liberty’s point of view. “I’ve spoken to Emerald. She wants us to go,” said Intergard decisively and pushed herself off the wall, “That’s the only reason why I’m alright with this, though.” The Professor nodded — It was clear that he disagreed with her idea of obedience, but he knew very well that there was no point in, nor any need for discussion. “We appreciate it, Kwifeldis. Now, what’s our plan?” Osrakey raised a hand and gestured towards the four boys, still standing at the entrance of the room, all seriously impressed by what was going on. “Not so fast, we still need to make sure that these kids here actually want to do this. It’s not a pleasant joyride, after all.” “You bet we want to!” exclaimed Benx and turned to his friends, who all gave affirming nods. Eos couldn’t quite believe that the senior agents were planning an actual rogue mission, and much less that he was supposed to be a part of it now. All the sleepiness that had gripped him only minutes before was completely gone. Igsher shrugged with a grin. “Told you.” “Well, it helps upgrade our roster, that much is sure,” said Intergard with a sigh that showed how uncomfortable she was with the idea of exposing four rookie youngsters to the mortal danger of this kind of mission, “In that case, we will have three teams. Eos Keros will go with me, Igsher will team up with Leit Shichal, and Ienge Alagdi should go with the Professor.” She pointed at each of the other agents as she called out the line-up. “Operators will be Osrakey and Benx Kurdibt. Any concerns?” There was a short pause as everybody was trying to come up with any possible issues, but the constellation seemed solid. Intergard nodded and walked over to the wardrobe, opening it with one hand and pulling out a large sheet of rolled-up paper with the other. As she spread the blueprint on the floor for everyone to see, she continued talking. “The Insurance Headquarters has over a dozen floors plus basement, and we don’t know where Ketten is being held. Actually, we don’t know if he’s even in the building—” “But it does seem like the natural choice, doesn’t it?” interrupted Igsher, “Djoutunhaim will want to interrogate Ketten himself if he gets the chance. I don’t think and other location would make sense.” Intergard confirmed it with a nod. “We can assume he is there, I agree. But we will need to look for him, that’s why we go in small teams and split up. I’ll take the top floors, Igsher will go for the mid section, and the Professor takes the basement. Alright?” Another round of approving confirmations as Intergard pointed out various areas of interest on the blueprint. Eos tried his best to memorize as much of it as possible. “Objective: Find Ketten and secure his safety. Don’t compromise any Insurance assets, if possible. We don’t want to hamstring Liberty’s efforts for peace any more than necessary. Be as covert as is practical, ideally don’t give away our allegiance with the agency at all. If there is opposition, try not to be lethal. Understood?” “Yes, Madam!” was the general answer, even from Igsher and Osrakey. Without doubt, Intergard was respected highly even among the most talented operatives of the agency. That was probably the reason why she was leading this rogue squad in the first place, thought Eos with a smile of admiration. He was still as much of an Intergard fan as ever. “We shouldn’t waste any time,” said Igsher as he stood up from the bed, “I have an automobile stored some streets further down, we can use that to get into the city center.” “Alright,” replied Intergard and rolled up the blueprint, “Five minutes to get equipment, we’ll meet at the front door. Let’s move.”

Chapter One: A Zillion Year Old Ghost Is Haunting Me Because We Have The Same Name
Once upon a time this land was blessed by courageous heroes and wise princesses that fought against the power hungry demon king. When darkness crept across the land, the princess would call upon her hero. One day, darkness crept across the land, but there was no princess to call upon a hero. Darkness had consumed her first, sneaking upon her and springing his trap. The princess lay slain at the feet of the demon king. The hero never awoken.
Years have passed. The demon king was replaced with a new ruler, the old bloodline faded away, and the heroes faded to mere legend. Magic has faded, as have belief in the goddesses, but darkness remains.
I feel him creeping, my old foe. This land is in danger again. It’s time for a hero to awaken again.
Groggily Link looked up at the ceiling. He had fallen out of bed, the bump on his head from landing on the floor made him both wake up and feel even more tired.
“Liiiiink!” He heard his little sister call from the other side of the door. “Grandma says it’s time to wake up for school.”
With a groan Link sat up, rubbing his eyes. He looked over to his desk. He had a history project due today, he had spent all night working on it. His best friend was going to help him add the finishing touches to it in the library this morning and look it over to make sure he wasn’t missing anything. He was quite proud of his poster depicting weapons of the first Hylian Civil War.
He threw his blankets off and headed to the door. His sister Aryll was headed to the bathroom. She was two years younger than him. He wasn’t exactly happy to be spending his last year of middle school in the same building as his sister, but the three grades were separated into separate halls. For the most part she stayed in the 6th grade hall, and he stayed in the 8th. They had separate lunch times, his was first, then the 7th graders, and then hers. It was an unwritten rule, they went to school together, separated for the day completely ignoring each other unless he felt like being nice enough to warn her about what was for lunch that day, and then walked home together. He walked downstairs to pour himself a bowl of cereal. His grandmother was there reading a paper.
“Well look at you sleepy head.” She smiled. “So any big plans for today?” Link yawned in response and sat down with a bowl of cereal. She chuckled. “Good luck with your project today.” Link smiled and focused on his cereal.
“Liiiiiink.” Aryll whinned. “You ate all the marshmallows again!” His little sister was holding a box of Lucky Charms, that only had the cereal. Link downed the rest of his cereal and dropped his bowl off in the sink, rushing upstairs to the bathroom. “Link! You do this all the time!” She continued to pester him while he brushed his teeth. “Link!”
“Farore please stop!” He pushed her out of the bathroom and slammed the door. He finished brushing his teeth and splashed cold water on his face, trying to wake up. He dried his face and looked up into the mirror. Staring back was a face other than his… They looked similar… But this face had bright yellow, almost greenish hair and tanned skin, as if he lived in a swimming pool, and black-green cat eyes. Link blinked several times. He was staring back at his face, messy blonde hair in desperate need of a comb and tired blue eyes. He was up too late working on his project. That was it.
“LINK!” Aryl pounded on the door, jolting him back to reality. “Hurry up! You’re the one who wanted to go to school early!”
“Yeah yeah.” Link threw his towel into the sink and returned to his room to change and grab his bag. “Come on twerp.” He grabbed his key from the hook and stuffed it into his pocket, eager to get to school to meet with Zelda.
The two had known each other since kindergarten, but their friendship really took off when they were in 3rd grade. On the bus ride back from a trip to the zoo she had kissed him. It was like a jolt of electricity. She claimed she fell and “No I didn’t kiss you you weirdo!” He knew he liked her, but he wasn’t sure how to tell her. He didn’t know if she felt the same way, and he would rather remain friends with her than take a chance of ruining everything.
Link arrived in the library, the poster sticking out of his bag. Oddly enough Zelda was nowhere to be found, she was usually sitting on the couches reading something… Passing it off as nothing Link plopped down and examined his poster one more time. Before he knew it the first bell rang, and Zelda was still missing. Confused Link took out his phone to check it, she’d have told him if she was missing school. There were no messages, but a library aid scolded him and told him to put his phone away. Hastily Link flipped it closed and stuffed it into his bag and hurried to his locker.
Zelda didn’t show up at all that day.
While waiting for Aryl at the end of the day he decided to text her and see what was going on. No response. Link chewed on the inside of his cheek thoughtfully. Normally she’d text him back right away, especially if she was sick.
“Hey! Wanna ask Grandma if we can go to the ice cream shop?” Aryl asked. Link nodded.
The next day Link was called down to the office to show around a new student. “Hi I’m Sheik, I just moved here from Kakarico.” Sheik was rather soft spoken. His skin was dark, while his hair was just blonde enough to not be white and he had red eyes.
“I’m Link. If you see a girl with blonde hair and pigtails who’s super annoying that’s probably my sister.” Link smiled. “Come on, I’ll show you to the eight grade hall.” Together the two climbed up the stairs. “Your eyes are really cool by the way.” Sheik blinked and then smiled, revealing a set of silver braces.
“Thanks!”
“That’s the library, I usually hang out there in the morning with my friend Zelda. The librarians are really picky about putting books back in their right places.” He pointed down the hall. “All the way down there is the sixth grade hall, that’s where your Goron language class will be. The teacher is from Death Mountain, his accent is really weird. He called me Lank.” Link frowned at the memory.
“Which language do you take?” The middle school offered three basic languages, Korok, Goron, and Zoran. The high school offered three additional languages, Sheikahn, Gerudan, and Ancient Hylian. Link’s ears turned red.
“Korok… It was Zelda’s idea. Why are you taking Goron?” Link tried to change the subject.
It was Sheik’s turn to turn red. “I, kinda know a lot already… like half the people in Kakarico speak it. My aunt wanted me to take Sheikahn but…” Link nodded.
“Come on, let’s get back to homeroom.”
Zelda didn’t show up to school again that day. Nor did she come the day after, and she still wasn’t answering her phone.
That night Link tossed and turned as different scenes flashed before him. The was a tall man on a horse, a room where it rained so hard it seemed like the ocean was crashing in, a talking green hat, someone urging him to wake up.
No that one was real.
“Wake up you lazy child! Groggily Link rubbed the sleep from his eyes and sat up to turn the light on. Standing in his room was a see through man. Link yelped and hid under the covers. “No. Get out of bed!” The ghost ripped the blankets away. Link’s eyes widened.
“You-you’re…” He was shaking.
“Yes. I am dead. I am a ghost.” The man rolled his eyes. “My name is Link.”
“That’s my name.” Link cocked his head to the side, confused. It’s not like his name was common…
“Yes. I know.” The ghost Link seethed. His patience was running thin…
Link looked around the room. “Is uh… Is that why you’re haunting my room?”
“I am not haunting your room!” The ghost smacked his forehead with his hand. “I am Hylia’s chosen hero, as are you. It is time for your quest to start, you have to save the princess.”
Link blinked. “I’m pretty sure I’m still asleep.”
“She is in danger.” The ghost was frustrated. “Your friend needs to be saved.”
“Zelda?!” Link’s eye’s widened. “But!”
“Hurry up, get dressed. You have to go on a journey to save her!” This kid was moving too slow for the ghost’s taste. Link stayed in the bed, chewing on the inside of his cheek.
“If she’s in trouble… We should get the police…. They can help her…” He said thoughtfully.
“No! That’s not-“ Link was already out of bed and headed next door. His neighbor Rusl was chief of police. He could help. “Kid! Hylia why this one?”
“Rusl!” Link frantically knocked on the door. A very tired man answered the door.
“Who? What?” He was still half asleep. “Link? Kid what-?”
“Zelda! Zelda’s in trouble!” Link stopped himself. How was he supposed to explain that a ghost told him that his best friend was in trouble…? “At… at least…”
That woke Rusl up. “How did you know?” The disappearance of Zelda Harkanin was supposed to be a secret to everyone.
“She… she hasn’t been in school… or answering her phone… she…” Link stammered. Rusl knew? “What happened to her?”
The man shook his head. “I cannot give you any details Link.” The child’s face fell. “But know this…” He knelt down to his level. “I will do everything in my power to find her. Now, please, keep this a secret to everyone, we don’t want to worry anyone needlessly. I will find her.” Rusl smiled warmly. “Go on back to bed okay? You have school tomorrow morning.” He patted the child’s shoulder and stood up, waiting for the kid to return inside. Slowly Link turned and went back into his grandmother’s house. The trek up the stairs seemed to go on for hours… Finally Link reached his bed and flopped onto it.
“Hardly appropriate behavior from a hero.” Oh great. The ghost was still there.
“I’m not a hero I’m a kid. A kid whose best friend is missing.” Link retorted back.
“Well I agree with you on the hero part.” Oh great. The ghost was still there and he was being insulting. “But she is more than a friend to you.”
Link sat up with a start. “How?!” The ghost chuckled sadly and looked out the window.
“Because. I was in love with her too.” Link stared at the ghost. A ghost? Was in love with his best friend?
“Erm…”
“When I was alive, she was too. She was not a human though; she was…” The ghost shook his head. “Unimportant. You have to find your friend. That is important.”
“Okay mister, judging by that get up you’ve been dead a really long time.” Seriously, a red cape? “But people don’t go off on quests and save damsels in distress. There are rules, procedures. The police are looking for her, if I get in the way then she may never be found and I’ll get in trouble.”
The old hero was shaking his head. “You have to go find her. You have to bring magic back to Hyrule.”
Link snorted. “Magic? Pfft.” He turned over and tried to sleep, silently praying that he get no more nightmares.
“I am not leaving you. This is exactly what happened before. The princess was killed before the hero could be awoken and Hyrule was cast into darkness. It is why the magic is gone now.” The hero crossed his arms.
Link swallowed harshly. Zelda? Killed? “You can’t follow me to school. People will see you.”
“If you do not start your quest soon Zelda will be killed.” Link bit his lower lip. Could the ghost be on to something?
“What do I need to do?”
“Awaken the magic in this land. There is a temple nearby, in the woods inside of an old mansion.” The ghost tried to quell the rising relief he felt. This kid was still not ready to be a hero.
“That place the high school used as a haunted house for a fundraiser?” Link raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t it get condemned or something last year?”
“I do not understand what that means.” Oh great, the ghost was still there and he was not with the times at all. Link sighed heavily.
“Listen, I’ll figure out a way to get there tomorrow night okay? But I have school in the morning.” The teen looked over at his alarm clock. “Actually I have to get up in two hours…” He groaned.
“What is this “school?””
Link sighed again. “It’s, it’s a place where you go and you learn things. Like tomorrow I have my Korok language class, and science, and mathematics, and history, and lit and lang, and gym class, and geography, and a study hall.”
“History is a good thing to learn. It will help you on your quest.” The ghost nodded. “Yes you must attend that one.”
“Okay, well I’m gonna end up sleeping through my history class if you don’t let me go to sleep.” Link yawned. “Tomorrow night. We’ll go to the haunted house tomorrow night.”
The ghost said something, but Link was too tired to figure out what. It didn’t sound like normal Hylian.
Link awoke to Aryl pounding on his door. “Link wake up!” Sleepily he rubbed the sleep from his eyes and yawned.
“Good morning.” Link screamed. The ghost was still there. “What is this?” He was looking through a comic. “What are these characters?”
“Link are you okay?” Aryl asked.
“Yeah! Just uhm… Leave me alone!” Link shouted to the door. “What are you doing here!?” He hissed to the ghost.
“I am guiding you on your quest. What is this writing, I have never come across it before?”
Link crossed the room and snatched the comic out of the ghost’s hands. “It’s a comic book. And it’s written in plain modern Hylian.”
“The Hylian language has changed?” The ghost furrowed his brow.
“Yeah, it got simpler.” Link shoved the comic into his book bag and began to get dressed. “Are you gonna follow me around all day? What if someone sees you?”
“I am only seen by those who need to see me.” Link guessed that meant the ghost was coming to school with him…
“Okay… Just… don’t cause a scene or anything.”
The moment he stepped into his history class things started going wrong.
“Um….” Sheik was staring at Link as if he had chu chus climbing all over him. “Link are you…?”
“That boy is a Sheikah, he can view the dead.” The ghost said.
“There’s something weird about you today.” Sheik furrowed his brow, something was off, but he couldn’t tell what.
“I just didn’t get much sleep last night.” Link yawned and laid down on the desk. Could Sheik really see the dead hero?
“If he is loyal to the royal family he will be a valuable asset.” The ghost said. Link tried really hard not to roll his eyes.
To his left Midna, a short girl with orange hair, sat down. “Umm?” Link shot her a questioning look. “Don’t you usually only talk to Zelda?”
“Yeah well, Zelda’s been a no show all week and I have a sneaking suspicion that we’re getting a group project and I don’t exactly have great choices in this class.” She tied her hair up into a ponytail. “I looked at the lesson plans.” Link and Sheik groaned. “Three or four people in a group.”
“What is a lesson plan?” Link bit his lower lip, trying to contain a frustrated growl.
“I’ll be right back I gotta pee.” He hurried out of the classroom and into the bathroom. “Please! Shut up! Just don’t talk while I’m in school! There will be plenty of time for that later!” Link half shouted at the ghost. “Just, hide in my backpack or something!”
“You aren’t alone in here.” The ghost pointed behind Link. With a look of horror Link turned to find Zant standing behind him.
“It’s okay. They talk to me too. Maybe they should hide in my backpack too.” Zant walked out. Link sighed in relief. No one really believed Zant. The bell rang and Link hurried back to his classroom.
Sure enough, they were assigned a group project. “We just got finished with a project. Why are we getting another one?” Link whined.
“Hush.” Midna rolled her eyes. “At least it’s just about the legends.”
“Okay but, there are like a zillion legends in Hyrule, that doesn’t narrow it down at all.” Link pointed out. “And everyone knows like, the same twelve.”
“Well, do we want to do one of the heroes?” Sheik offered. “It’d be easy. There’s so much written about them.”
“Okay the heroes did literally the same thing over and over again.” Midna argued.
“Do the Temple of Hylia.” The ghost suggested to Link.
“What about a place instead of a whole legend?” Link raised an eyebrow. “It’ll narrow things down a bit to make it easier.”
Sheik nodded in agreement. “Yeah I like that idea. Where though?”
“The Temple of Hylia.” “The Twilight Realm.” Midna glared at Link. “Where even is the Temple of Hylia? It only appears in one legend. It’s lost.” Link slumped in his chair. He should have known that listening to the ghost was a bad idea.
“Okay but the Twilight Realm is a made up place to make children feel better about where they sent criminals.” Sheik pointed out. “And it also only appears in one legend.” It was Midna’s turn to slump in her chair.
Link stared off at one of the posters. “The desert…” In the legends the bad guy usually came from the desert. Maybe this project could help him learn more about it?
Sheik shook his head. “No. We are not poking that deku baba. Don’t you know what’s been going on?”
“But there’s always unrest at the border.” Link pointed out.
“Sheik’s right. No.” Midna shook her head. “There’s too much bad blood with the desert.”
“Okay well we need to pick something before we get stuck doing an entire legend.” Link huffed.
The three got stuck doing an entire legend. The legend of the hero of the winds.
“Okay, well my grandma used to tell me and my sister the stories of the hero of winds.” Link leaned back into his chair and stretched.
“My aunt probably has a book that has the legend in it.” Sheik suggested.
“Coolio. I’ll see what I can find online. We should meet up this weekend and figure out how we’re gonna present it and work on the written portion.” The boys nodded in agreement. Link couldn’t help but think about how Zelda would have handed the project. She’d probably do all the research, he’d make the project, and she’d give something to the other two. She’d also hover over them and make sure that what they were doing was right… There was a reason why she had the best grades… She had always said that he could be just as good if he did the work.
“Hello? Earth to Link.” Midna was waving her hand in front of his face. Link blinked and batted her hand away. “Were you even listening?”
“Yes.” Link pouted. “We’re meeting up this weekend to work on the project.”
“Yeah but where? And when?” Sheik raised an eyebrow, grinning. Link stared at him blankly. “My place. Early tomorrow. You can sleep over tonight. I’ll tell my aunt to order pizza.” Midna muttered something about boys and pizza.
“You have to go to the forest.” The spirit reminded. “If his aunt is a Sheikah as well, and if she is trained she will see me. They may have served the goddesses once but much seems to have changed.” Link waved his hand dismissively.
“Yeah yeah I know.” Sheik stared at him. Link blinked and realized he had been talking out loud. “Um…” He reached over and scribbled his number and address onto Sheik’s notebook. “Meet me here after schoolish. That’s my address.”
“How romantic.” Midna rolled her eyes. “But good idea.” She scribbled her number down on a slip of paper and slid it to Sheik. “You still have mine right?” Link nodded.
“I uh.. Don’t have a phone yet.” Sheik clicked his tongue. “And I don’t remember my aunt’s house number. But I will give you a call or shoot you a text as soon as I can.”
The bell rang and the class hurried to collect their things. “Okay so…” Link turned to Sheik. “I will talk with you in gym class and Midna,” he turned to the petite girl. “I’ll see you in science.” He hurried out of the classroom, hoping to get an extra minute or two before his next class to organize his thoughts.
“Is he always that weird?” Sheik asked.
Midna nodded. “He’s always spacing out. Probably thinking about Zelda.”
“Who is she? I’ve heard her name a few times but I haven’t met her.” He followed her into the hall.
“That would be because she’s been absent for a few days.” Midna sighed. “If you were listening earlier you would have heard that. Link said yesterday she hadn’t been answering her phone either.”
Sheik chewed on his lower lip. “Well I hope she’s okay…”
“Yeah.” Midna sighed again and headed down the hallway to her science class with Link. The smell of the room made her gag. Glancing around she saw dissection trays and dead frogs. Link wasn’t at his normal spot. “Oh Link if you make me dissect a frog I will dissect you instead.” She sat down next to his spot and set her stuff down. It wasn’t the dead frogs that bothered her, it was the dead frogs who were dead and preserved so they could be cut up. The bell rang and Link rushed into the class just before it ended.
“Cutting it close there Link.” He muttered a quick apology before sliding into his spot next to Midna.
“So this is the second time you were practically late for class.” Midna raised an eyebrow.
“Actually it’s the umpteenth.” Link covered his nose with his shirt. “Why does it smell so bad?”
“You’re dissecting a frog.” Midna wrinkled her nose.
“Right before Lunch? What?!” Link groaned. “This blows.” The two barely listened to the directions the teacher had given them. Midna refused to do any of the dissection so Link was stuck doing the whole thing. “They could have at least given us gloves.” He muttered.
Midna wrinkled her nose. “We shouldn’t be dissecting frogs at all. They’re endangered.” Link snorted. He was almost positive these frogs weren’t endangered. Just smelly. “Zelda would have warned me that this was happening…” Midna said absentmindedly. “I hope she’s okay…”
“She will be.” Link set the scalpel down. “Look I don’t want to dig around a frog right before lunch, let’s just fill out the worksheet.”
“Good idea.” Minda pushed the tray away with her pencil while Link went to wash his hands.
“I don’t understand, why are you mutilating those frogs?” The spirit asked.
“Later.” Link hissed.
The rest of the day was uneventful. As Link walked home with Aryll he kicked a pebble.
“What’s got you down?” She asked. Link shook his head, unwilling to talk about it. Aryll picked up on the hint and sighed. The walk home was mostly silent.
When they arrived home Link headed straight up to his room and began to pace.
“You have to start your quest tonight.” The spirit reminded. “The longer you wait the more danger she’ll be in.”
“I know.” Link sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “It’s just… This is a lot for me to take in. I’m still a kid.” He looked up at the spirit. “I…” He trailed off and sighed again.
“There are heroes younger than you. The hero you’re studying was your age when his quest started.” The ghost pointed out.
“The hero of winds was thirteen?”
“Eleven.”
Link groaned.
“When is the age of manhood now?” The spirit mused. “You say you’re still a child. Have you not gone through a rite of passage into manhood?” Link rolled his eyes and took his school stuff out of his backpack, replacing them with some clothes.
“That’s not really a thing anymore.” Link paused. “You said you were Hylia’s chosen hero, when did your quest begin?” The spirit’s expression hardened.
“My quest has started many times. I was cursed to be reborn, so while this spirit is that of the first hero, I remember all the lives of all the heroes.”
Link blinked. “I don’t really get it… You’re…? But…?”
“Know that I would not wish any of my lives upon anyone.” The spirit looked out the window. “Your friend is here.” Link spared a glance out the window to see Sheik heading up his path.
“Okay, so here’s the plan.” He turned his attention back to the spirit. “You’re gonna hide in my back pack. When Sheik is asleep I’ll sneak out with you and we’ll go to the forest and do whatever it is you want me to do and then slip back in before he wakes up.”
“You’ll need a weapon.” Link chewed on the inside of his cheek. The heroes always had a weapon…. Or several… He grabbed his slingshot and pouch from inside a shoe box in his closet and stuffed it into his bag.
“Link you have a friend here!” Aryll called. Link slung his bag over his shoulder, happy to see that the spirit had disappeared, and hurried down the stairs.
“Grandma I’m gonna spend the night at a friend’s house, we’re meeting up with a girl from class in the morning to work on a project.” Link waved into the kitchen.
“Which friend?” His grandmother peered up from above her glasses. “And I don’t remember you asking.” She raised an eyebrow.
Link shuffled his bag. “A new kid named Sheik, it was kinda a last second thing.”
“Have I met his mother?”
“He lives with his aunt. They just moved here.” Link winced as the elderly woman stood up, assuming he was about to get a lecture. Instead he found a plate of cookies being pushed into his hands.
“Welcome them to town for me. I’ll have to invite her over for tea sometime.” His grandma smiled warmly. Link smiled in return and turned to leave. “And don’t eat them out of house and home!” She called.
Link closed the door behind him and hurried out to Sheik.
“Since when did Link have a cute friend?” Aryll furrowed her brow.
“Oh you hush Aryll…” Her grandma shook her head.
“Can I invite Romani for a sleep over?” Aryll asked. “Since Link’s away at a friend’s house?”
“Is your room cleaned?” The elderly woman raised an eyebrow.
“It will be?” She asked. If granny was gonna say no there was no point in cleaning it.
“Clean it first then ask again.” She chuckled.

Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight

→ His Connections
Parent Names:
Ellis Watts II (Father): Ellis did not have a very strong relationship with his father, contrary to everyone in their pack.
