Regresses between ages 4-8

Voluntary regressor 

Regresses as often as his work schedule will allow although he rarely feels like the amount of time he gets to be little is enough 

He wishes that he was able to regress whenever he wanted to but his duties as the demon lord get in the way frequently

He is typically a very energetic and enthusiastic little and loves to play! 

Incredibly talkative since he doesn't need to watch what he says while little and can happily to chatter on about all his interests and never have to be quiet or worry about how his words will affect how he is seen as a ruler by his subjects 

He can be a little bit spoiled and gets very bratty when he doesn’t get his way. He grew up as a prince and is used to people doing what he wants 

He craves attention. Growing up without a mom and with a distant father who was quick to be strict with him he didn’t get a lot of it and so will do everything he can to get it now even if it means he has to occasionally act out 

He hates being in trouble so much. He hates to disappoint and doesn’t like it when people are mad at him  

He gets lonely very easily and this results in him being a bit clingy. He likes to be able to see you 

When he’s big his memories of his regression get a little bit fuzzy. He will often admit things to you while small only to not remember telling you once he’s big again 

He will not nap. He gets to regress so rarely and he doesn't want to waste a second of the time he has with sleep no matter how tired he is. He can sleep when he’s big 

He is a little big for most to carry but he loves being in someone's arms and receiving physical affection any way he can so he would be more than happy to be carried if you are able to 

He is up for anything most of the time while little and loves to try new things including art, pretend play, and movie nights

He is very fond of novelty rubber ducks and has started a collection to keep him company in the bath 

He loves to go out and do things. He can’t do much in the devildom due to his status however, he has been able to go do things in the human world with you (and an additional glamor charm barbatos and lucifer both insisted on)

He loves animals and is enraptured by zoos and aquariums 

Diavolo is very active and games like catch and tag are a lot of fun for him. 

His favorite thing about being little are the moments where he gets to be held and cuddled and told that he is good and loved and that you will always be there to take care of him when he needs you 

Big fan of spaghetti and meatballs! Which is great because it’s a very easy meal to hide his veggies in since he usually throws a bit of a fit about eating them 

He gets very messy while little. When he’s big he has to constantly be aware of his appearance but when he’s little all of that pressure goes away and he can be messy without any consequences 

He can not resist purchasing toys for himself and Barbatos and Lucifer frequently have to talk him out of buying anymore. He is a real sucker for any stuffed animal or toy that he thinks looks lonely. Stories like corduroy and the velveteen rabbit really get to him 

He can not be left alone for too long. He spent so much of his childhood alone and while regressed he hates feeling lonely for even a second. If he’s left alone he will very quickly become sad and instantly go searching for someone. If he can’t find them right away he will often be overwhelmed with sadness and loneliness and end up sitting down and sobbing until someone comes and comforts him 

Barbatos insisted he have clothing outside his normal attire for the times he is regressed that can get dirty and be played in without getting ruined. Diavolo has no complaints about this although he can sometimes get fussy about which of his play clothes he wants to wear 

Barbatos and Lucifer have both known about his regression for a very long time. He doesnt hide anything from them usually and he was sort of hoping that if they knew they would volunteer to be his caregiver 

For a long time Barbatos and Lucifer were his caregiver however they are both so busy that between their work schedule and his he almost never got the time to regress. When you come into the picture and offer to help out with taking care of him he is over the moon  

He doesn't plan on using parental titles for you while he’s regressed and it takes you both by surprise when he does.

Akane

she’s todoroki and uraraka’s daughter, and she inherited the fire half of todoroki’s quirk and while todoroki was kind of upset about that at first, he always did his best to make sure akane could feel confident and happy about her quirk 

she’s studying at UA and wants to become a pro hero (just like all four of her parents)

she’s the oldest and is very protective of her younger siblings, especially toshinori (everyone calls him toshi) since he tends to get teased more often, if you say one bad thing about her brother or sister you will The Die

in general she’s super sweet and friendly and pretty popular in her class

all the other students want her to tell them stories about her parents and while she is proud of them, most of the conversations are like “NO WAY SHOTO IS YOUR DAD??? WHATS HE LIKE THATS SO BADASS” “my dads a dork and i watched him cry for half an hour over a 3 second clip of a puppy sneezing” “WHAT ABOUT DEKU THOUGH HES THE NUMBER ONE PRO HERO IN JAPAN” “yeah but he wears crocs all the time. all might crocs” “what about uravity” “oh yeah moms great” 

that said she does love and admire all of her parents, she calls her moves “smashes” which makes deku bawl his eyes out and when she’s voted class president iida hugs her for like 20 minutes straight, uraraka is super proud of her for her achievements but is also very proud of what a kind and loving sister she is and makes sure akane knows it, todoroki smiles whenever he sees akane and does everything he can to be a loving and supportive dad (by doing the opposite of what endeavor would do in any given situation) 

she’s super competitive- monopoly nights in her family always go up in flames. . . sometimes literally and she’s banned from ever playing mario party with temuri again because her little sister ended up picking up some less than savory language in the process 

Toshi

he’s deku and uraraka’s son, and he’s quirkless which can make him feel really ashamed of himself at times, especially since he feels like he has to live up to his parents as well as his namesake (i refuse to believe deku could have a kid and not name them after all might), but of course all his parents reassure him that they love and support him no matter what

he really admires his big sister akane and he’s super proud of her for getting into UA! he wants to study in the support program (he’s very scientifically-minded and likes developing gadgets and things like that) and he daydreams of when they’ll be old enough to start a hero agency together where he can help his sister achieve her dreams!

he’s the middle child and of course he loves his little sister, but he has a closer connection to akane, partially because they’re closer in age and also because akane always makes him feel happy and safe, he tries to follow akane’s example and be a good big brother to temuri and protect her even though he’s quirkless 

toshi’s very shy, in addition to the self-worth issues he has due to being quirkless, he also tends to get excited and overwhelmed very easily which embarrasses him so he tends to shut down and stay quiet when hes around people he doesnt know, when he feels more comfortable he’s very sweet and earnest and gets really excited about whatever he’s talking about

while he’s kind of intimidated by the legacy his parents set up for him to follow, he does love them all very much, uraraka especially is super sweet and reassuring to him and iida is always asking toshi about the latest gadget he’s developing for akane or an experiment he did which makes toshi really happy, todoroki is kind of quiet but he just lets toshi talk and never tries to interrupt him or tell him to slow down so he’s free to just be himself, and of course deku never once hesitates to tell toshi that he can do whatever he wants in life, quirkless or not, and that he’s loved no matter what 

out of the three kids, he’s the one with the closest bond to their grandpa all might (who of course Loves All The Children Equally and has absolutely does not have a soft spot for the child named after him that most reminds him of young midoriya, that would be Ridiculous), all might calls him “younger midoriya” and is always willing to give him a hug when he needs it

Temuri

she’s iida and uraraka’s daughter and she inherited uraraka’s quirk, as they found out when she tried to make the family pet, spot (spot’s a big ass slobbery st bernard that todoroki picked out years ago, he doesn’t actually have any spots but todo thought it seemed like a good name for a dog) fly 

even though she didn’t get her dad’s quirk, she wants to be the next ingenium, she tells iida “im ingenium too but i dont run i FLY!” and iida just sobs bc he just loves his daughter so much, she wants to go to UA too someday

she’s the baby of the family and while she looks up to akane a lot and thinks she’s super cool, she tends to stick closer to her brother toshi, she likes to hold his hand whenever the family is out walking somewhere and she says “safe now!” (toshi doesn’t know if that means he’s keeping her safe or she’s protecting him but he appreciates it either way) 

she gets really loud and excitable like iida but she also has more of uraraka’s fun-loving side and loves to make people laugh, she also does the Iida ThingTM with her hands and is really energetic, she loves to run around and jump and she’s always getting one or more of her parents to take her to the park so she can “train”  

iida is her favorite parent and she’s VERY vocal about it (the other parents mostly laugh it off although deku cries about it sometimes bc deku cries about everything) and she wants to be just like him, she also tries to get uraraka to teach her how to fly and use her quirk shes like “mommy help me fly!” “sweetie i’d love to but mommys busy right now" “HELP FLY” “oh alright then” and she picks temuri up and flies her around for a bit, deku tends to spoil her since she’s the youngest (and he wants to be her favorite too) so he takes her to the park most often, and she’s oBSSESSED with frozen so naturally she wants todoroki to dress up as elsa so they can re-enact the entirety of the movie together and todo obliges, even if he does threaten to murder deku when he tries to film it 

her favorite pro hero (after ingenium of course) is gran torino because she’s heard stories about him from deku and grandpa all might and “hes fast and cool! like ingenium!” she gets to meet him at some point (cue deku trying to reassure all might while they both shudder in the corner) and she’s super excited by it and asks to wear her extra-special  “ingenium outfit” (she puts a blue bike helmet down over her face) so she can make a good impression

when trey is having a “moment”, at first jaira didn’t know how to handle it and it annoyed/confused her. but now, she’s learned to give him some room to breathe and if its that necessary, she knows how his anxiety makes him irritable so she’d literally make him take off his clothes and sit in ice to wake him the fuck up. as for jaira, she’s violent when in distress, soooooo....as badly as he’d want to help, he’s gonna need to give her space unless he wants her to severely injure him lol!!!

Sensory Processing Might Look Different Than You Expect

Sensory processing is a term becoming more and more familiar to parents.

However, there are still a number of misconceptions, and sensory processing might look different than you expect.

There are often sure fire ways to know your child has sensory issues. However, there are also some  behaviors that get overlooked. It took me eight years to really understand that this was an issue for my child, and I wish I had seen the signs earlier.

Sensory Processing Might Look Different Than You Expect

When looking at sensory processing, parents often assume that their child with sensory needs will become overwhelmed by and shy away from too much stimulus.

Loud noises will be challenging.

Crowds will lead to melt downs.

Tags and socks that aren’t straight will drive a child mad.

They often have problems with textures so picky eating can be a symptom.

A child with sensory needs may not want to touch slime, foam, or other such materials because the feel will agitate them. When working with or parenting kids who respond to sensory experiences in this manner, parents quickly and appropriately turn to exploring the idea of a sensory processing disorder.

However, the paragraph above doesn’t describe my own child at all, and yet we are still exploring sensory issues.

I had a friend recently describe the struggles with her son. She could have been describing my own child.

I asked, “Have you considered sensory processing?”

She said, “That doesn’t resonate at all.” She continued to explain that he doesn’t have any of the issues I’ve just described above. It took talking to her about how sensory needs look different in different kids for her to say, “Oh my. That might be exactly what we are dealing with.”

I explored some of the common misconceptions about sensory processing, but what I want people to understand is that each child has been created unique.

How sensory needs manifest in one child might look extremely different than another child.

While some people think it is all about the child naturally avoiding stimulus due to sensory overload, the opposite can be true. The need for sensory experiences can be great and yet the brain has a hard time regulating the sensory event. Therefore, a child craves and seeks out the experience, but it leads to a negative behavior outcome.

Some sensory experiences can be calming to a child and others might result in an explosion of emotions. This was hard to recognize in my child. The frustration and agitation would be bottled up and the meltdown would often come later than the sensory experience, making it difficult to tie the two together. 

Let me describe some of the things we experience just in case you say, “Oh my. That’s my child.”

My child can go from 0 to 60 in a matter of seconds.

When things don’t go her way, there can be a melt down. I believed that she was just acting spoiled, not recognizing that this might be part of how she was made.

What her occupational therapist discovered in testing is that she has a highly developed visual cortex. What an amazing gift, right? But with all positive traits, there can be a struggle that comes alongside it. The sensory struggle that pairs with a strong visual cortex is that often times these individuals have a strong visual movie playing out in their mind.

Since they have everything planned out visually, when real life deviates from that plan, the brain has a hard time processing the change. The result can be extreme frustration as their brain is already locked on to what should be happening. The outcome experienced in the home is a melt down or fits of rage.

My child craved sensory experiences. She wanted nothing more than to be around a lot of people and seemed to seek out things that might overstimulate. She was that creative child who wanted to paint, but she didn’t want to just use paper and a brush. There was a desire to touch the paint and perhaps paint the walls rather than just the paper provided. She loved to get into nail polish, glitter, shaving cream or gak.

As a mom, I sought to give her a lot of sensory experiences. Frustration as a parent would set in when she would seek out these experiences on her own, getting into the craft closet and exploring what glitter and glue would look like on her dresser or bed sheets. Clothes would be drawn on, often scribbling on her clothes at an older age. The sensory need would consume her, but rather than having a calming effect, it would often escalate hyper or out of control behavior to levels that were unmanageable.

Other sensory experiences were extremely calming to her, as we discovered more in therapy. She had a high need for pressure on her body, which explains the tight and intense hugging that occurred and wasn’t always welcome by the recipients. The desire to wear jeans that were too tight could also be understood. It explains all of the rubber bands stacked on her arms and wrists. It even gives answers to why  waddling was the one way to calm her as a baby. Wrapping her body tightly in a blanket or letting her chill in her Lycra swing is now a strategy we use to calm when she becomes overloaded. 

Some of the more commonly thought of sensory issues apply to her too: a desire to chew everything, a need to move and have vestibular input, and the fact that she easily becomes agitated.

One reason it was hard to identify a need in my child is that she is extremely bright.

She performs high academically and has never had obvious behavioral issues in school. She is well liked by teachers and peers. What we didn’t realize is that she had developed coping strategies at school for the areas in which her body was screaming against her. When she felt overwhelmed, she would push her feet intensely into the ground. She would keep her hands in her desk to bend the corners of a notebook over and over again. Her water bottle would be chewed on throughout the day. The stress experienced by any over-stimulus would also build up throughout the school day, and she would let out all that tension at home. This made the after-school experience challenging for our family.

  Identifying sensory processing as a need is not an excuse for allowing negative behavior to continue, but it’s a recognition that I, as the parent, might need to seek out different tools and try different parenting strategies to teach each of my children in a unique way – just as they are each uniquely made.

In therapy, I am reminded that our goal is to give my child and myself the strategies to positively handle the challenges that may come. Further, the occupational therapy is aimed, not to pacify, but to actually create new pathways in the brain.

I am hoping our story might give you some of the tools, answers, and understanding about sensory processing.

It may have caught you off guard that sensory processing might look different than you expected. Light bulbs might be going off in your own brain about some of the behaviors you see in your child. I know that the description of my child is only one snapshot into a sensory kid, and that there are many other stories that deviate from my own and yet fall under the same category. The goal is to become educated and equipped while loving and parenting your child well.
